Romantic Brooklyn Engagement Session

There’s no doubt that Whole Foods is part of my week grocery shopping routine. But after seeing this completely adorable proposal at the WF checkout? I’m bound to smile every time I unload my basket of goods. And it’s no surprise this duo’s little love sesh with Lauren Gabrielle Photography turned out stunning-as-ever. See more here and don’t miss the amazing proposal video below!

From the Miami New TimesLots of things happen in the checkout line at Whole Foods. Wallets are emptied. Meat-eaters become vegans. And sometimes, romances blossom. That’s what happened to Vladimir Romannikov and Monica Dehombre. Call it a Kombucha meetcute. In the same aisle where the organically-inclined duo met at Whole Foods Coral Gables, he proposed — complete with rose petals, a loudspeaker, and lots of teary eyes.

It’s a love story for the ages. About a year and a half ago, Monica and Vladimir rolled up to Whole Foods simultaneously. As she tells it, Vladimir, a medical student on his surgery rotation, spotted Monica in the parking lot — then spent his entire shopping trip trying to find a way to talk to her — even pretending to show interest in the fermented concoction known as kombucha tea. He followed her to the checkout where he let out the legendary pick up line: “So you shop all organic, huh?” “We finished paying and I waited for him and we took the escalator together. He asked me for my number in the parking garage. We went on our first date and never stopped after,” she says.

So when it came time to make their union official, Vladimir planned a romantic proposal at the exact spot (register #2) where they met. With some help from Whole Foods employees, the whole thing went down on Tuesday afternoon. To set the scene, rose petals were scattered on the floor, Dehombre’s favorite song (John Legend’s All of Me) played, and a Whole Foods rep called them to the front of the store. “So immediately I looked at him. I’m like ‘Oh my God, what’s happening?'” she laughs. He professed his love via intercom, got down on one knee — and oh, the tears. Commence happily ever after. “It’s been such a whirlwind. It’s such a normal thing going grocery shopping, I had no idea this would come of it so I’m very grateful to Whole Foods,” she adds. Could they be any more adorable?! Proof you never know where Mr. or Ms. Right might pop up — but, unsurprisingly, Whole Foods is probably a genetically-advantageous pool for dating prospects.

Arboretum Spring Wedding in Philadelphia

Pink is sort of the unofficial favorite color at SMP and we will never, ever tire of it, especially when it’s done is such a soft and beautiful way. Brooke Courtney Photography captured a wedding fit for the utterly romantic at heart, and it’s everything dreams are made of, right down to the little guy in black tie.

From the Bride… From torrential thunder storms to getting in a car accident, the week leading up to our wedding was anything but perfect. Our wedding on May 2, 2014, however, far exceeded our expectations and was truly as wonderful as we had always imagined.

My husband Bryan and I were married outdoors in the gardens at the Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill (Philadelphia) surrounded by 70 of our closest family and friends. I wore a lace and tulle Pronovias gown that I purchased in NYC and Bryan wore a Vera Wang tuxedo. Taking the train 2 hours to NYC many times for my fittings was definitely worth it.

Bryan and I were very hands-on with the planning of our big day. We worked closely with our officiant to ensure our ceremony was exactly how we wanted it. We picked all of our blessings and wrote our own vows.

Our cocktail hour was in the Out on a Limb (tree house) at Morris Arboretum. When we first visited the arboretum, the tree house immediately stood out to us. We knew right away that we wanted a unique cocktail hour space and this was it! Jeffrey Miller Catering did a wonderful job with the passed and stationary hors d’oeuvres. Our signature drink was a champagne and St. Germain cocktail with a raspberry on top. It was delicious!

The reception space was inside the tent off the arboretum’s visitors center and was absolutely gorgeous. We kept the sides of the tent up the entire night so our guests could see the beautiful gardens around us. Bryan and I danced to Lady Antebellum’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, ate swordfish and mashed sweet potatoes, and enjoyed spending time with our friends and family.

The night was truly magical.

Elegant Seattle Wedding full of Classic City Details

At the hands of Sinclair & Moore, this black tie affair was artfully infused with a fresh burst of color. It’s a gorgeous rendition of Seattle city nuptials but with a twist on classic. The vibrant florals, the cityscape, the feasting in front of a weathered brick wall all come together through the lens of O’Malley Photographers. Have a look at one wildly good looking gallery right here.

From O’Malley PhotographersWe have a gorgeous Pacific Northwest wedding planned and designed by the talented Sinclair & Moore team here to share with you! Todd and Kristi’s wedding was full of classic and elegant touches, exactly what they hoped their wedding would be. They opted for a classic and elegant wedding in downtown Seattle, but wanted their photos to also incorporate the gorgeous water and mountain views, something that is unique to Seattle. The slate grey, navy, smoky blue, coral and peach color palette was perfectly achieved with garden and spray roses, dahlias, clematis, sweet peas, raspberries and other unique natural elements. They chose Court in the Square to say their “I Do’s” at and new venue, AXIS, to host their reception. Both venues boast quintessential Seattle vibes with lots of brick, exposed wood and warm character. The bride and groom got ready at nearby Alexis Hotel, within walking distance to the historic Pioneer Square district where the ceremony and reception were held. They incorporated other special touches into their big day such as a touching tribute to their grandparents during the ceremony and a late night snack of wood-fired pizza (the bride’s favorite treat) to keep their guests fueled for dancing late into the evening. It was a beautiful and memorable day!

Behind the Scenes: CAMP Workshop

I’m used to working with my hands. I’ve thankfully been blessed with a well rounded arsenal of creative talents. But one of the skills I’m missing, and so desperately want to learn, is calligraphy. Which is why my new mission in life is to attend Erica Loesing‘s CAMP! And after peeking at these photos, I think you’ll want to join me.

From Erica Loesing… CAMP was founded as an ongoing collaboration to support and nurture Atlanta’s creative community. We offer all kinds of classes, workshops, events, and gatherings (our suppers are the best!), with the main goal being to bring people together and create a community around common creative interests. The community has grown so much since it began, and we are always hearing of people meeting at a supper and later collaborating together! The best.

”The Craft of Hand Lettering” has been a very popular topic, selling out both times it has been offered. This was the prettiest of days with a really great energy brought by each and every student. It is so much fun teaching what you do and watching other people grow. I feel so lucky to get to do that. Hand lettering craft is so dear to me, and if nothing else I love talking about the subtleties of spacing, the beauty of how each and every letter attaches to the next in its own unique way, mindfulness, and embracing your own style to differentiate it from a computer font. My true lettering passion is embracing your own hand, how different it is from the next person.

Before we dug into the technical tools we colored with plain-ol’ crayons as a warm-up. (Maybe having a toddler inspired this.) It was one of my favorite moments of the class, coloring all over the tables, making big, broad movements to get loosened up and having fun.

This class was offered in two parts, the morning focusing on the very basic technical skills and concepts, then more and more practice as the day went on. My goal is to embrace the beauty of each student’s own unique hand and find their voice through lettering, and there’s a lot of practice just to get there. There are so many surprising complexities to mastering using a real lettering nib. We look to traditional Copperplate only to then to break its rules and letter by the rules our hands have already set up for us. The class is a mix of aesthetic, technical, and conceptual, all of which I believe to be equally important tools in learning to hand letter.

Rustic White did an amazing job photographing the day. Robert was such a sport hanging out with a group of lettering ladies and was quite the acrobat to get some of these shots. We were well fed by the yummiest Homespun ATL; Jason + Jamie source local and seasonal foods and combine them in such imaginative ways. We filled our sweet tooth with XK Macarons, which I find myself still dreaming of. Blue Eyed Yonder’s farm tables + bistro chairs provided the perfect work spaces in Heidi Geldhauser’s beautiful new collaborative studio space The Wigwam Collective. Pretty, simple flowers by the talented Lindsay Coletta. And all the swag! Ashley of IceMilk Aprons created custom pouches again this year that were a huge hit. The walnut inkwells are from the Yes Ma’am shop, and everything else is special just for the class. A really big shoutout to my intern Kelly who is the very best and always keeps my nibs nice and clean.

Mint + Gold Wedding of Walk in Love Style Blogger

When bloggers tie the knot, magical things happen my dears. Glitter, gold, mint and confetti… and that’s just the start. So is true with this pretty party that Brooke Courtney Photography has graced our pages with. The wide-smiling, gorgeous Bride just so happens to be a style blogger over at Walk In Love. and her pin-worthy wedding that follows, is pure pretty.

From the beautiful Bride…Taylor and I first met at Manheim Community Pool when he was 17 years old and on the swim team and I was 15 and life guarding at the pool. One evening during a swim meet 17 year old Taylor approached me and said, “hey.” That was it. Several years later he found me on Facebook and we began talking. After a first date to Tropical Smoothie and to see the movie, The Rise of the Planet of The Apes, we just knew… We continued dating long distance as Taylor went to school and ran track at Liberty University in Virgina and I stayed in PA to study in the medical field. After dating for two years, Taylor got down on one knee and proposed to me on the front porch of the home I grew up in. Every time I walk through the door of my parents home I think about that special day… Currently we live in an apartment in Manheim with our two kittens, Titan and Bruno. Taylor is pursing his own DJ business, The Electric Gentleman, and I am working as a style blogger for Walk in Love.!

I loved that the venue offered so many options with the location. It gave our guests different places to walk around and they could explore the property. The ceremony was in a garden with a long brick aisle that circled around a large fountain. The alter was beaneth a white awning that overlooked the countryside and a horse pasture. The barn where the reception took place had lots of natural lighting as well as a tent attached where guests could mingle onto the patio around the reflection pool.

The theme of our wedding was a 1960’s mid century modern dance party. Basically we wanted it to be colorful, fun, light hearted, and involve lots of confetti and dancing! The color scheme was mint blue with gold accents as well as Kelly green, navy blue, and bubblegum pink.

We had my grandfather who is a pastor marry us which was special because he married my parents, my aunts and uncles, as well as my older sister and her husband. We used my grandmothers knife to cut our cake. The knife was used in her wedding as well as my mother’s and aunt’s weddings. It is also used at every anniversary event in our family. Steven Courtney sang to us during our ceremony and T.J Mousetis wrote a personal message to us that he read during the ceremony. My sister, Heather Daly, sang while my dad and I did our father daughter dance. Lastly, Taylor and I had our first dance to the song, “Love Is A Verb,” by John Mayer who is his all time favorite artist.

The First Look and seeing Taylor’s face when he first saw me in my dress. Walking down the aisle with my dad, who is a military guy, and hearing him chant, left, right left, under his breath the whole way down the aisle to keep us walking in unison. After being announced husband and wife there was a confetti toss and we walked down the aisle to “You’re My Best Friend,” by Queen. Dancing ours faces off at the reception with our family and friends.

Signature Wedding Cocktails + Free Printables!

Hi SMP brides! It’s Angela here from Saffron Avenue bringing you a couple fun cocktail recipes and pretty printables to go with. My fiancé and I will be using these as our signature drinks for our very small and intimate wedding in North Carolina. Almost every guest will be traveling from the Midwest so I picked out these two cocktail recipes that fit in nicely with the season and Southern charm of the area.

[dotted]

PEAR GINGER CHAMPAGNE

This signature drink is the Pear Ginger Champagne, the reason I chose this cocktail is not only because I love pears, but since our reception venue allows us to bring in any non-liquor beverages I knew champagne would be perfect for our guests! The mix of the pear nectar, ginger, and champagne gives the drink the right amount of sweetness and is perfect for an early summer night. (recipe adapted from Sweet Peas and Saffron)

THE SOUTHERN SHANDY

The Southern Shandy is refreshing and crisp includes both beer and liquor. I have a feeling it will be a hit considering everyone will be traveling all day and ready for a refreshing beverage! (recipe adapted from Pretty Plain Janes)

  • 4 shots of Light Beer
  • 1 shot of Peach Rum
  • Fill glass with Lemonade

Suzanne Vega’s New York City Apartment

What happens when a team of utter geniuses team up to tackle a brilliant New York City pad? Interior design of the very best kind is what! It turns out, when you pair everyone’s favorite design duo, The Novogratz, and grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega, magical things ensue. And we’re about to get a first hand peek!

SMP: Tell us a little about this project!
Cortney: We have been friends with Suzanne Vega for almost twenty years. Suzanne rented our very first NYC townhouse and she has played at three of our kids’ Baptisms. We were thrilled when she asked us to design her uptown apartment as she is just so cool.

SMP: What was your jumping off point for the design of Suzanne’s apartment?
Bob: Suzanne is a collector of many things. Mostly music as she is one smart lady. We needed to do a purge, though, of her some of her books and other collectables as they over took the place.

SMP: What was the biggest challenge you faced while designing her home?
Cortney: The challenge was convincing Suzanne of letting go some of her belongings as she held on to them very closely. We helped her determine which objects had less sentimental value. Once that was done, it was pretty easy as she had confidence in us. What was left over were a lot of groovy pieces that fit into an amazing space that had amazing bones.

SMP: In the end, what ended up being your favorite design element in this project?
Bob: We LOVED how the Wurlitzer piano became the focal point of her place. We knew it was a prized possession for her and the piece is truly magnificent.

SMP: One element that totally made the space?
Bob: We powder coated her old chandelier a cool green. It definitely was a pop of color and made a bold, fun statement, which is what we’re all about.

SMP: Where did you splurge? Where did you save?
Cortney: This project was more about taking things out than adding them in.

SMP: One piece of advice for someone hoping to achieve a similar girly-meets-eclectic aesthetic in their own home?
Cortney and Bob: A home should always be a statement of who you are and this place is so Suzanne Vega… and a Grammy Award lying around never hurts!

1950s Inspired Al Fresco Garden Wedding

It’s no hard task to get lost in these dreamy images from Koman Photography, but after hearing what the lovely photographer had to say about the day, the images take on a whole different meaning. The garden party soiree is romantic as can be, and I absolutely implore you to read the story below, and then revisit every single image – just make sure to grab the tissue box first!

From Koman PhotographyThe couple is very very dear to our hearts and we really wanted to capture their day in a way that the pictures would be able to express all the emotions and beauty of the day. We especially wanted this because it is the only way the father of the bride can see his gorgeous daughter as a BRIDE. Although their wedding day was filled with beauty, love and happy moments it also had it’s sad moments. On their wedding day the father of the bride had heart problems and had to urgently be hospitalized. The bride was only told 30 minutes before she was supposed to walk down the aisle with her father that he wouldn’t be able to make it to her wedding. They were still hoping that somehow he’d be able to come and they didn’t want to give her the news until they had to. The bride is blessed with the most amazing family and friends and they were around her all day making sure that she enjoys every moment of her day and continuously reassuring her that her father is going to be okay. Her very sweet mother walked her down the aisle, held her in her arms during the first dance and gave the most emotional speech we have ever heard. During this speech she talked about what her father would say if he were there and how happy they are both for the couple. We are so very blessed to witness these moments and capture them with our camera. The father of the bride is now doing well and the bride and groom have moved in with him to take extra care of him. Their hearts are full of love for each other and we couldn’t be happier to see such sweet people sharing a life together! We felt that it was important to share their story with you because it really touched our hearts.

From the Bride… I am an artist and can tend to be a perfectionist when I have a vision of how I want something to look aesthetically, so the biggest thing for me was starting to trust in other people to create my specific vision for me. As the bride, I quickly learned that I was not going to be able to do everything myself, especially the day of. I never knew what to say when I was asked “what is your theme?” I guess our wedding had a vibe. I knew I wanted everyone to dress up, maybe a little more fancy than usual. I pictured this fantastic garden party from another era with tons of twinkly lights, soft yet dramatic elements, organic tablescapes, mixed with 1950′s prom decor? That is how my mind works. The most overwhelming aspect of wedding planning, aside from the saving money, and making decisions part, are the endless options out there! The wiser women in my life kept reminiscing on how there were no options back in the day as to how you executed your wedding. Well, the modern day bride is faced with so many options, it can seriously drive one mad! I had to narrow my likes down and I decided to focus on one big decor element that I knew I could make and afford. That element was the ribbon garland that hung above the dance floor. Andrew and I LOVE to dance and it was imperative that we spent the entire night dancing with friends and family. I wanted to create a magical atmosphere on that dance floor. After I focused on that, everything began to fall into place. I wasn’t afraid to scour craigslist ads, and borrow decor from family friends. Andrew was such a huge help as well. He was constantly in touch with vendors, making decisions with me, and really being present in the entire experience. I absolutely loved our wedding!

Central Oregon Desert Engagement

Your engagement shoot is a unbelievable opportunity for you and your spouse-to-be to get acquainted with photographer. It takes a little practice to let the real you shine through. With the help of the talented Nakalan McKay, this Oregon couple could write the how-to on being yourself and having some fun in front of the camera. You can catch the rest of their sweet e-session right here in the gallery.

From Nakalan McKayJamie and Kyle got to know each other while working at Washington Family Ranch (formerly known as Wild Horse Canyon, Younglife Camp in Antelope Oregon) and will soon be tying the knot atop Smith Rock in Central Oregon.

We traveled around exploring Central Oregon, taking time to appreciate the desert flora and bright desert flowers. We ended at Kyle’s grandpa’s home, where he pulled out his heirloom airstream trailer for us to use for photographs.

Kate Spade Lemon Wedding Inspiration

This sunny wedding inspiration from Claudette Marie Events is just the shot of Vitamin D you need with the cold starting to creep in. Inspired by Kate Spade, the shoot, captured by Kristyn Harder, had big, beautiful shoes to fill, and fill them it did. With lemons in every corner, dip-dyed napkins, and the perfect touch of whimsy in flamingo form, it’s the perfect way to inject a little sunshine in your day.

Whimsical

From Claudette Hogan… Everyone jumped on the Kate Spade band wagon this year, working on shoots and inspiration using the trademark, black, white, pink and gold and I must admit, I am 100% a fan! But I wanted to do something a little bit different, but still with that well known, quirky Kate Spade feel.

When New york fashion week was on, I saw the amazing lemon printed items that they had released and I instantly fell in love! I started a Pinterest board for inspiration and ran with it.

I love doing shoots outside. I think it gives you so many more options to work with and Ixchel from Parfait Productions recommended the venue.

I approached Kristyn and Parfait to see what their thoughts were, and they were both really excited to be a part of the shoot. Both their creative visions and talent made this shoot come to life!

The Social Page worked wonders on the stationery, even though I may have drove them crazy with my ‘specific’ requests, but these ladies know their stuff! I gave them the concept and let them run with it. I trust their judgements because they are the experts and when you do, magic happens!

I love love love flowers and have made a vow to try and have fresh flowers in my house as often as I can. Jamie at Fleurish Flower Shop outdid herself! The arrangement was perfect and was exactly what I had in mind! All of the greenery worked perfectly with the pops of yellow and white! Something I think Ms. Spade would approve of!

The rental items tied everything together. The plates were the perfect fit with the menus and I was going to use silver flatware, but who am I trying to kid!

I think we wanted to show next years bride not to be afraid of colour and to have fun with their designs. Yes it is a wedding but it ultimately is your day and when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

This is our one last hoorah for summer!

St. Louis Wedding Inspired by Mexican Heritage

Succulents, papel picado, and pinatas sound like an amazing wedding celebration to me. Now add a team of vendors, including Bloomin’ Buckets and Heather Roth Fine Art Photography, that took the Bride’s vision of a day infused with Mexican heritage and translated that to absolute perfection with a side of yummy pan dulce. See all the cute details here in the full gallery.

From The Bride…I love telling the story of how Jimmy and I met because it gives me goose bumps just thinking about it! We met through a mutual friend at a bar near St. Louis University. I was with a big group of friends and for some reason, something inside me told me to find my friend Jarad. When I finally did, I found Jarad talking to Jimmy at the bar. They had not seen each other for a few years since going to school together at Mizzou. The funny thing is, Jimmy hated going to this bar and only went because it was his friend’s birthday! Jarad introduced us and when I shook Jimmy’s hand and looked into his eyes, it was love at first sight. Cheesy, I know- but it’s true! We talked about Cardinals baseball for a long time, and I think I impressed him because we went out on our first date a week later! Over time we found out we had several mutual friends and we even got confirmed in the same church during the spring of 1999. Living minutes away from each other in the same city for 20 years, Jimmy and I often talk about how strange it was that we didn’t meet sooner.

I had always thought I would get married in Texas, because that was where I was born and where my grandparents lived, and I wanted them to be able to see me walk down the aisle. With both of them passing away a few years ago, Jimmy and I knew we would now be having our wedding in St. Louis. I was perfectly fine with this, but I still wanted to feel like I was home in Texas. So Jimmy (God bless him) let me take the reins for the vision for the wedding and we used my Mexican heritage as inspiration for everything. I incorporated lots of succulents, papel picado (hand cut Mexican wedding banners), a piñata, and we even had a pan dulce bar (Mexican pastries). I also knew without a doubt, we had to have a mariachi band because my grandfather would always hire one for my grandmother’s birthday. My dad and I danced to the song my grandfather used to sing to my grandmother. Needless to say it made us all cry! I also made a lot of the décor myself, with help from family and friends, and in the end everything turned out more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I felt like I was back in Texas with my grandparents right beside me. Jimmy and I had the best time dancing under the banners and twinkling lights with everyone we loved most in the world. It was truly the most magical night!

Organic Elegance in Colorado at Ya Ya Farm and Apple Orchard

I adore farm weddings. They might just rank among my favorite. So when I laid eyes on this gorgeous fête from Save The Date Events at Ya Ya Farm And Apple Orchard, I nearly fell out of my chair. With the perfect amount of elegance yet filled with rustic details, this gallery from Jason And Gina Photography has me smiling from ear to ear this morning. See why here.

From Jason And Gina PhotographyI hope you enjoy Danielle and Ben’s gorgeous farm to table wedding at an apple orchard/farm (how cute is that?!) as much as we do! I think this wedding is such a perfect example of how well you can take a very organic and rustic style setting and give it a touch of elegance while still keeping with the style of your surroundings. We had some dreary weather but I think it adds a smokey romance to the photos! We love all the animals that were hanging out on property for guests to pet and take pictures of…what an adorable touch!

From Save The Date EventsFrom the very beginning of planning, Danielle and Ben wanted a venue that could frame the iconic Boulder Flatirons without losing the intricate details of their own story. Their hope was to find a place that felt charming but could also allow for an elegant celebration. What they discovered was Ya Ya Farm and Orchard, a century-old heirloom apple farm in Longmont, Colorado.

On the day of the wedding, guests walked by curious barn cats, spotted chickens, a pair of horses, and neat rows of venerable apple trees on their way to the ceremony. Emma, the bride and groom’s dog and VIP attendant, felt right at home.

The ceremony, officiated by both fathers, took place in the comfort of the orchard. And despite the misting spring rainclouds, the backdrop offered gorgeous, if momentary glimpses of the mountains. A vintage flatbed pickup truck sat nestled in the grass, a welcomed part of the landscape.

After the ceremony, guests were directed to cocktail hour under an open tent with the orchard surrounding them. Guests could relax on rustic lounge furniture, play yard games, and listen to live classical guitar. The bride and groom incorporated their favorite wine and cheese pairings for guests to enjoy, in addition to appetizers such as grape-pistachio goat cheese truffles and tomato-watermelon gazpacho with mint.

Dinner and dancing was held in large tent on another part of the farm. The tent featured canopy fabric draping, illuminated chandeliers, warm wooden details, soft candlelight, greenery, and creamy flowers with sprigs of lavender.

Dinner was a genuine farm-to-table experience. The menu included spring vegetable ravioli with garden herbs, local beef skirt steak, and fresh rainbow trout with polenta. A custom cake with flavors such as zucchini-lime sat on an old wooden wagon. Protecting the cake was a tiny model of their dog Emma, handcrafted from sugar.

As the event came to a close, guests we invited to leave the tent and walk to crackling fire pits where trays of s’more ingredients awaited them.

Hamilton Hall Wedding in Salem, Massachusetts

Shane Godfrey never fails to capture weddings in a way that will stand the test of time, and this beauty below is the perfect example. Classic yet not stuffy, this couples’ stunning Salem soiree at the Hamilton Hall leaves us with a gallery that just shouldn’t be missed. See it all here.

From Shane GodfreyAmanda and Burt are my second couple of my 2014 season and their Hamilton Hall Wedding did not disappoint! I knew when I met them and they explained how relaxed and fun they wanted their day to be that we would be a good fit for one another. We had a ton in common aside from their wedding. They live down the street from me, work in publishing, and Burt is also in a band that the weekend prior to their wedding, played with a friend of mine’s band at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. I had somehow never been to Hamilton Hall in Salem Massachusetts to photograph a wedding before and after this wedding I cannot wait to go back! The hall is lit by huge windows that run along the sides of the main ballroom and across the street there is a charming park which is a perfect place for photographs, especially as the sun is setting as our situation was on this day. They had both the ceremony and reception on-site, and the entire day was filled with love and laughter by both the couple and their guests as it was a smaller, more intimate wedding of a hundred or so people. I can’t say enough about this amazing couple and I can’t wait to run into them around the neighborhood!

Moroccan Inspired Wedding Invitation

In my opinion, invitation designers have a tough job, but a fun one at that. They give your guests a first glimpse into your Big Day… the feel, the style, the pretty to come. And I’m constantly in awe of the beautiful paper goods that come through the SMP door. Take this gorgeously green invite from Anticipate Invitations. Pulling from the Moroccan architecture at this couple’s Palm Springs venue, they created a stunning and playful suite. Read on for more inspiration behind the design and see it all here.

From Anticipate InvitationsLisa and Sean were having a Palm Springs wedding, but their venue (Korakia Pensione) wasn’t the mid-century style you might associate with Palm Springs. Instead, they wanted to incorporate the Moroccan architecture and natural desert surroundings their guests would experience instead.

The outer green shape was inspired by one of the large wooden doors found on site, and the intricate blind letterpressed pattern was pulled from the wood carvings surround some of the doorways. Succulents and tiny flowers and stars accent the invitation and info card. The info card was printed with white ink on kraft paper to give an eclectic feel to the suite and also to reflect the natural surrounds of the venue.

The most involved part of the design was getting the detailed blind pattern to be visible and defined at the small size. It was run on a cylindrical letterpress to ensure maximum pressure and detail. After trial and error and some adjusting, the end-result was exquisite.

Their day-of stationery included kraft menu cards with three-dimensional pop-up place cards, monogrammed beverage tumblers for lounging by the poolside, cocktail and photo booth signage printed in white ink on kraft paper, and screenprinted weekend tote bags for guests.

From Sweet Root VillageThis collection was first inspired by a strong and long-time love of mid-century glassware and leather. We started dreaming of warm metallics like gold and copper, then layered soft creamy textures to compliment a few deep navy accents. We added burgundy to the table as a later addition based on a few amazing locally grown flowers from our favorite farms that we couldn’t pass up! So, armed with buckets and buckets of gorgeous greens and blooms all sourced within 60 miles of our studio, we each made a bouquet and built ourselves a centerpiece and a mantle backdrop that is making us all want to get married again.

The moodier and manlier inspired aspects of this shoot came in swiftly through the custom made leather goods from wildly talented Carolyn of Matine as well as the dark wood and metallic aspects of the table settings from the team at DC Rental. It all felt perfectly pulled together when we set eyes on the stunning invitation suite and paper good elements lovingly designed by Jennifer of Tonic Site Shop. Our talented studio creative extraordinaire, Rachele, spent hours hand sewing countless bits of triangles to build a fantastical forest of geometric goodness which served as a backdrop to a few special highlights of of our day. The amazing vintage bar cart with all the fixings was so generously supplied by one of our favorite spots in Old Town Alexandria, The Hour! Shelves and shelves of heavenly mid-century entertaining goodness that has us drooling every time we walk through the doors. Also highlighted on the bar cart was a collection of fantastical raw goodies and treats that would appease every raw, vegan, gluten-free, paleo eater on the planet! We couldn’t believe our ears (or bellies) when we discovered these good-for-you desserts that just melt in your mouth so perfectly made by the amazing woman behind Joy Bliss Raw! Pure heaven on your tongue.

We were thrilled to connect with some fantastic local people like Gossamer who handed over an armful of dreamy dresses to play with for the day that inspired us so much and we had a blast working with the amazing ladies of Bishop Boutique down the block from our studio pairing some amazing shoes and jewelry to the gowns! One of our favorite hair and makeup artists, Ana Buitrago, created two rockstar looks for our stunning model Heather and she stuck around all day long adjusting and fluffing and keeping spirits high! The day wouldn’t have been complete without a few special details like the gorgeous sapphire ring sourced from Solovey Jewelers and the handcrafted metal hair crown by Heart of Gold Designs.

So grateful to partner with such amazing talent and so excited to be sharing everyone’s hard work in this collection of images!

From Katie at Unearthed VintageMy inspiration for this shoot came from two areas in my life, my wonderful childhood and teenage years and who I am now as an adult. I grew up in upstate New York working on a local family farm. I spent 7 years waking up early, picking corn, and helping work at the market gaining lots of knowledge of local fruits, veggies, and flowers. During our summers we’d make homemade strawberry jam and strawberry rhubarb pies. After moving to Miami I thought for sure the “farmer” in me would be lost in the hustle and bustle of city life and South Beach. When I discovered Estancia Culinaria I once again felt like I was at home. A hidden gem in South Florida, it is our version of the south, and a truly inspiring location that feels magical the second you step into the gates.

South Florida is full of citrus fruits, bright colors, and sunny days. When pulling together ideas and inspirations I couldn’t help but want to pull in pieces of my past giving them a fresh twist with my South Florida life. What a better way than team up with a group of wonderful vendors to show everyone what the South in South Florida really means. We wanted to be sure to include the bright citrus fruits that can be found all over the state and Julia and Desi did so perfectly in their floral designs and desserts. The citrus also paired perfectly with the craft cocktail bars and also local craft beers that were the perfect parting gift for all of the guests.

From Julia at Julia Rohde DesignsSouth Florida brings a lot of natural beauty in the foliage and fruits that are naturally grown here. We wanted to create bright, lush florals that tied in locally sourced Florida grown products to replicate a realistic southern wedding floral design concept that brides can have for their wedding day. Some of the locally sourced foliage and fruits were blush and white bi-color bougainvillea, fresh mint herb, delicate vines and kumquats, all organically grown by South Florida nurseries and florals such as honeysuckle and orange blossom sourced from local wholesalers. The pops of of coral, pale peach, orange and yellow toned florals were used to tie in with the various citrus fruits such as grapefruit, kumquats and oranges that are so abundantly produced in Florida and such an inspiration to this Florida Groves shoot.

From the Photographer Tara Lynn SenOwners Jackie and Andrew of The Lord Thompson Manor created the most picture-perfect, stunning celebration for Becky & San’s love-filled Wedding Day. Becky and San chose the absolute perfect venue for creating an event that perfectly captured their personalities and love for one another as well as the traditions, culture and beauty of their families. Jackie and Andrew set the stage for guests to be whisked away into an elegant fairy tale as every square inch of the manor was graced with this couple’s perfect and personal touches.

I was in love with Becky and San’s sophisticated coral and grey palette, brought to life with Jackie’s gorgeous decor including beautiful pashminas for their female guests. The clean lines of San’s custom suit from La Rukico of New York were made modern and fun with his coral tie to perfectly compliment Becky’s amazing and bright bouquet. Becky’s glam styling was the work of the very talented Priscilla of The Lord Thompson Manor’s KISS Salon. Her bright red lips, luscious lashes and gorgeous blond locks perfectly upswept gave me visions of a modern Grace Kelly. In the pockets of her lovely Paloma Blanca dress, Becky carried an angel pin from her grandmother, pictures of those watching her wedding from above and a handkerchief her mother had created from the sleeve of her own wedding gown. This was only the beginning of the personal touches that made it so clear how tremendously huge Becky & San’s hearts are.

Before their first look, they exchanged beautiful cards which set the stage for tears of joy as they saw one another for the first time in the presence of their families and bridal party. They wrote their own vows, touching everyone who witnessed their love and as guests entered the reception, they were greeted with a thank-you card that included a picture of them with either Becky or San capturing a memory the couple held dear with their guest. During the ceremony, San presented his bride with a beautiful gold Thali which was blessed by their families. Their first dance rocked the reception with a choreographed mash-up of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” and Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind.”

The romance created by The Lord Thompson Manor enveloped the evening, with candlelight glowing from every corner. Hank Lane Music created an awesome party and helped set the stage for a surprise traditional Sri-Lankan dance gifted by San’s family. Videography by CinemaCake created one of the most gorgeous Wedding Day videos I have yet to see and their artistry was amazing to partner with. I am so honored to have been a special part of Becky & San’s Wedding Day and their wedding will definitely be one that stays vivid in my mind for years to come.

Becky & San- It has been such a fabulous journey with you both and I will always cherish every moment of it! From the streets of New York City to your absolutely perfect Wedding Day, I have been filled with the joy that radiates so effortlessly from you both. Thank you so much for the honor of being a part of your day and may your lives together be so very blessed!

A Black and White Wedding at The Greek Club

A simple theme of black and white was the perfect understatement for this elaborate celebration. A joining of Greek and Italian cultures, the couple had two ceremonies to honor both sides – which, lucky for us, means double the gorgeous pics. Honoring family tradition as well as great style, see all the day’s details in the gallery by Studio 60 Sixty Photography. Plus, wedding film by Spika!

From the Bride…Our wedding bought together two cultures; Greek and Italian. We had two church ceremonies and a reception to follow at the Greek Club, Brisbane. We had a simple theme of black and white with soft pink posies to add a touch of colour. The bride was dressed in a custom made Steven Khalil dress with delicate French Lace. The bridesmaids were dressed in a simple black and white Sass and Bide dress, moving away from the ‘typical’ bridesmaid dress style. Simple chrome hurricane lanterns filled the hall floor and were also used as table centre pieces. A backdrop of fairy lights and hanging white camilia flowers was featured at the centre of the room with a mixture of white flowers falling off a suspended plank above the bridal table. Table settings featured a small black box filled with chocolate, a sparkler for the ‘big sendoff’ and a menu with a chrome rock sitting on top. There was also a small clipboard with a poem. The guests’ table number represented the anniversary year. They were to write a message which would be opened up on the anniversary their table number represented. This was such a fun and special idea which was a modern take on a guest book. The day was long, as all are, however having two church ceremonies made the day all the busier. Having an Autumn wedding, we were constrained to fit preparations, traditions, ceremonies, photographer and videographer all before an early sunset. With schedules and countless lists to help organise the day, everything went smoothly. A Greek Tradition is to be sung to by your family before you leave for the churches. There were lots of tears as the song lyrics are personalied for you and your husband to be with everybody echoing along. It was very emotional, however extremely special having my yiayia (grandmother) stand up and sing to me on my special day. We wiped our tears and set off to the first church. We had an Italian service in the Cathedral of Saint Stephens and a Greek Orthodox service at Saint George Church with the reception to follow at the Greek Club. The first priest forgot the exchanging of the rings, however by the second church service we knew we were certainly married. The most special part of the day was where my new husband and I got to spend some time alone together. It was quiet, the photographer was busy capturing the moment from afar and no one was around us for just that moment. We were able to take in the day together and spend some time with just us. This was a piece of advice that was given to me and we made certain we did it. Soon after we were hurried off and the day just flew. Lots of food, wine, scotch and dancing filled the reception and before we knew it, the months of planning , organising, cutting, emailing, tying, gluing, calling and bowing were over. Love and Laughter was at the centre of the day, to mark and celebrate the importance of the special occasion and it was everything I wished for and more!
