Stylish Anniversary Shoot at Home

We spend a lot of time gushing over gorgeous engagements and beautifully captured weddings so it’s always fun to take a peek at a happily married duo after the big day. This anniversary shoot is a lovely look at the everyday shenanigans of a crazy cute couple, and their little pups too. But the best part? Danielle Poff Photography also snapped their cozy California home. See the full tour on SMP Living!

From Blue Kite CinemaLindsay + Alex were so much fun- from the moment we got to the hotel and Lindsay called us saying, “get up here, let’s get this party started” to the photo session at Union Station in LA when Alex was holding the photo light and playfully shining it at Lindsay, we were laughing the whole time. The ceremony was laid out “in the round” at the Cicada Club which was a very different way to capture their special moments and made for some awesome footage. And the best part of the story is that we got to do something a bit different with them. We had Lindsay’s three kids and her niece help narrate the story of Lindsay + Alex. It is absolutely adorable. I guess kids really do ‘say the darndest things’. Watch and see!

Modern Flea Market Inspired Home Tour

If there is anything that photographer Danielle Poff knows, it’s how to shoot beautiful spaces and make the people behind them sparkle. Whether it’s this gorgeous anniversary or the adorable, entirely laid back chic home below, it seems that she sees beauty in the simplest of moments. I hope you guys all find as much inspiration in this home and in this wedding shoot as I have. More home pics here!

From Vanessa…I’m inspired by a lot of things. I love nature and it’s organic state, flowers, animals, the beach. I love art. I try to incorporate all that in my decor. Anything that’s beautiful inspires me.

My favorite places to shop are thrift stores and flea markets, because you can find interesting and unique things for a good price. I like to mix old and new together because I find that it keeps homes fresh. My favorite shop in SLO is Ruby Rose for vintage things.

My rug is from Ikea, another place I love to shop at. My coffee table came from a neighbor who was getting rid of it. I sprayed painted it gold, took the glass off and replaced it with wood. My turquoise cups are from Goodwill!

Chic, Black Tie DC Wedding at The National Cathedral

I can’t even with this wedding. It’s honestly everything that makes me absolutely obsessed with weddings all wrapped up in one pretty post. I am kind of beside myself with happiness right just looking at all the classic, chic goodness. Beautifully captured by Kristen Lynne Photography, this gallery is basically my dream come true., and you can see all the reasons why right here.

From Kristen Lynne PhotographyThis chic, black tie wedding took place in quite possibly one of the most beautiful cities in the US, Washington, DC. This romantic and stylish couple had their ceremony in The National Cathedral. The beauty and majesty of the cathedral was fitting for their gorgeous, DC wedding. The moment was nothing short of spectacular as Megan walked down the long aisle of the Cathedral with her father by her side. Rudy and Megan said their vows at the high alter under the cover of vaulted ceilings and stained glass. Their guests sat in the ornate pews of the great choir as they witnessed these two amazing people pledge their love for one another.

Because Rudy and Megan have a classic style, the decided not to have any strong color theme. They kept their invitations and decor simple; black and white. Megan’s bridesmaids wore black, floor-length dresses and Rudy’s groomsmen wore white tuxedo jackets. The entire wedding was accented with the beautiful soft colors of the National Cathedral and subtle metallic accents. The evening light caused the limestone to turn the softest shade of pink, which made for an exquisite backdrop for the happy couple’s portraits.

The reception at The Ritz-Carlton was also spectacular. Tiny votive candles floated in the air above the dining tables creating a warm and romantic atmosphere for a posh, city, summer reception! The seated dinner served by the wait staff at The Ritz-Carlton was both beautiful and delicious. Each course was presented like a work of art! But Megan and Rudy are also light hearted and so much fun, so it made sense for them to have a candy bar! Soon the guests were up, dancing, socializing, and having a great time. This was a wedding everyone would always remember.

Garden Inspired Estate Wedding

I mean, there’s a ton of fabulous in the details of this next wedding, but I CANNOT get past that Amsale gown! The embroidered full skirt is a major statement in itself, but on a stunning bride and set against a bloom-filled design of lush greens by Ellyn Lilly? The whole look is one that surely belongs on SMP. So without further ado, I give you the gorgeous gallery from Mango Studios and wedding film by faithbooth!

From the Bride… From the moment we visited the venue, we both fell in love with the property for it’s lush green outdoor space and it’s charming interior. It was an easy decision selecting the Vaughn House at the Estates of Sunnybrook as the venue was beautiful to begin with and it gave us the opportunity to add decor where it was meaningful.

The night before the wedding day I stayed at the Four Season Toronto Hotel because the suites are spacious and large in size, light and airy feeling and not to mention the hotel was designed by my firm Yabu Pushelberg. I was so excited for the big day I actually couldn’t fall asleep.

The morning of the wedding, I jumped out of bed and was filled with excitement and couldn’t wait to start the day! I had my hair and make up done while listening to music and sipping on Starbucks. The first part of the morning was very intimate with just my mom and my sister in the suite and then the girls joined a few hours later to kick start the photography and videography. As I was getting ready, a few sentimental parts of my wedding day was definitely putting on my “something old”. Among a few friends we started a tradition where a vintage handkerchief is passed down from one bride to the next, each bride hand sews in their initials and wedding date and wears it on their day. My “something new” and my “something borrowed” were both things I shared with my best friend. I wore new wedding accessories that I purchased while going together to a Sparkle Event at Pearl Bridal House and the beautiful pair of earrings that I wore were the same pair my best friend wore on her wedding day. My mom wore navy and she was my “something blue” as the day wouldn’t have been complete without having her with me.

I still remember the day I asked my girls will you be my bridesmaids (www.stylemepretty.com/canada-weddings/ontario/toronto/2014/02/27/6-ways-to-ask-your-bridesmaids). Having each and every single one of them stand next to me as Gabe and I exchange our vows to each other couldn’t be more meaningful. My thank you gifts were pretty individually wrapped boxes with matching bracelets and pearl earrings. Gabe gave all his groomsmen black ties, striped socks and personalized engraved flasks. Gabe and I also exchanged wedding cards and wedding gifts on our day. I barely made it through reading his card to me and I was pleasantly surprised with a beautiful clutch. As part of Asian tradition, I surprised Gabe with a timeless watch as his main gift paired with cuff links.

The most memorable part of our day would have to be the exchanging of our vows. With family coming into town from the west coast and having to do a lot of entertaining before the day; we both snuck away to write our promises to each other. I definitely would have to say I felt very emotional during my part but I lost composure when Gabe read out his vows to me. I purchased matching Rifle Paper Co. floral notebooks for us to write in as we wanted to have our vows in a safe place for us to look back to in future years.

With my love for the natural beauty and elegance of greens and blooms, I knew that they would play a huge part of our wedding day. There was a perfect harmony in the loose composition of the floral bouquets and centrepieces paired with blush and gold accents that set the tone for our romantic and timeless wedding look. To add glimmer to the ballroom we rented gold chiavari chairs, added gold-framed table numbers and filled the room with whimsical floral arrangements in mercury glass vases. The absolutely delicious wedding cake and sweets on the dessert table showcased intricate sugared floral detailing that also tied the theme of our wedding together.

The DRESS was everything and more then what I dreamt of when I was a little girl. While in New York for business, I was able to arrange my first bridal appointment. I tried on four dresses but definitely saved the best for last as I knew it was the one. Although I left New York that same day empty handed, right after landing in Toronto, I called local bridal shops to see who carried Amsale Blue Label dresses. Pearl Bridal House opened their boutique on a Sunday just for me and I purchased my dress that day. It was meant to be. The cupcake silhouette and hand-sewn textured flowers is a perfect match to my girlie personality and the dress alone truly, truly completed the look for the entire day.

Whimsical Kansas Vintage Barn Wedding

The vision was simple: sparkling sunlight, vintage heirlooms, and loved ones all around. And sure enough, that starting point turned into the kind of pretty-filled, whimsical wedding that’ll leave you smiling from ear to ear. Poppy and Clover whipped up blooms for the occasion and Rose Wheat Photography didn’t miss a beat.  Click here for sooo much more!

From the Bride… When Drew and I first began planning our wedding, we knew we wanted to accomplish three things: 1) have an outdoor ceremony with sparkling sunlight, 2) include vintage family heirlooms in the decor and 3) surround ourselves with family and friends to celebrate all day long. The inspiration for the entire event was “vintage glam” and “wanderlust.” We wanted it to be whimsical, creative and lovely.

The ceremony decor included a stained glass bay window (circa 1890 England that we found in a stained glass warehouse in Arkansas) that served as an altar. I loved the concept of bringing the traditional-ness of a church wedding to the all-natural outdoor venue via the stained glass. The grey tuxes, bridesmaid dresses and flowers were all selected to coordinate with the beautiful, outdoor wooded ceremony site.

Other than renting the linens and table runners, all of the reception center pieces were made using glassware, vintage teacups, pitchers, etc. that belong to myself, my mother and grandmother. We purchased wholesale fresh flowers through our florist (Poppy and Clover) to save on costs as well. The chandelier was made using a vintage wagon wheel, DIY hand-dyed coffee filter flowers, crystals and branches from trees in our yard. One of my favorite little touches was the 1930’s vintage cake topper, which we found at The Potting Shed in Chelsea, MI while visiting my grandmother. Homemade pralines, made by my Texan grandmother, were the perfect way to share my Texan heritage as a party favor to guests. The wedding love bird logos was created by our fabulous event planners at Barn Door Events. We utilized the logo on our invitations, programs and was lit-up on the dance floor for our first dance!

Our wedding day will always be my favorite day, and one that I wish I could re-live over and over again. Every little detail – from my great-grandmothers teacups on the tables, to the soft flowy ribbons lining the ceremony aisle chairs, or the soft glow of the twinkling lights streaming from the barn rafters — truly made the day a fairytale.

Germany Wedding Inspiration: Clean + Classic + Elegant

I am lucky enough to call Germany home, and I don’t take it’s beauty for granted in the least (it’s so gorgeous) but even I was floored by this shoot from Kibogo Photography. Along with a team of ridiculously talented pros, they were able to capture the old world beauty of Deutschland and boil it down to it’s most sincere elements, creating wedding inspiration I fully expect to take over Pinterest!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/96816657 600 338]

From Kibogo PhotographyI am so excited to share our wedding inspiration shoot that we did in Germany at the Grandhotel Steigenberger Koenigswinter. The hotel is an elegant and unique spot — located on a mountain called Petersberg and looks like a castle. Its bright and beautiful rooms inspired us to do an elegant wedding inspiration shoot there for local and international brides who are looking for unique locations here in Germany. I gathered a whole bunch of creative people on the boat and we started designing the shoot.

We wanted the wedding inspiration shoot to be clean, clasic, elegant. The color theme was peach/rosé and menthe with silver. Peonies, white flowers, breathtaking stationery and three gowns from Jenny Packham were the highlight on that day! Not to mention that we had the whole presidential suite to get ready and style the bride and groom in! We started with a few getting ready images for the “groom” and a few boudoir images for the “bride” which I totally adore! We then proceeded to shoot some portraits outdoors with an oldtimer (blue Audi) — being oh-so careful with the gown!

While the “bride” changed into another dress I shoot the details of table, stationery, cake, jewellery, rings, cufflings, shoes, bow ties, groom with cake, table of “reception”, and the cake table. Before we headed with the couple to the tables, I took some portraits of them alone plus details of their attire.

After some images at the table with the couple we headed to the big hall where they usually hold big wedding for some dancing photos as a wrap up for the day. That room/hall has an amazing view towards the big river called Rhein. Oposite on the other side of the river you can see another castle (Dragon-castle).

We did this inspiration shoot to show potentional couples how they could celebrate their wedding at a venue such as this. Not many know about the amazing venue since it’s up on a mountain. You can have an indoor ceremony there since it has a small church beside the main building or you can have an outdoor wedding on the big terrace next to the presidential suite. Outdoors is a lovely park to take walks or just sit on one of the many terraces and enjoy the breathtaking view!

Modern Carillon Village Green Wedding

I know it’s going to be a good day when we have a film from Sixpence Productions on the schedule. They nail it every. single. time. And this beachside soiree is no exception. The Bride’s adorable anticipation, the Groom’s excited smile as he watches her make her way down the aisle… it’s a heart-warmer darlings. Press play to see all the sweet love and don’t miss the gallery from Paul Johnson!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/79159049 600 338]

From Sixpence ProductionsWe get the sweetest couples from all over the country. Jennifer and Chad were from Iowa and showed us just how much fun and incredibly kind people from the Hawkeye state are. I knew they were the perfect clients for us when Jen told us about Chad’s proposal. It was at her Dad’s farm at Mother’s Day weekend and all the family was over for a “grill out” in the backyard under the stars. Beyond that all she could remember were the tears and giggles when Chad proposed. Tears and giggles. What more could a girl want?!?

From the beautiful Bride…I guess you could say that we met in an operating room. I am a physician assistant and Chad, at the time, was a rad tech that I was introduced to by one of his friends. I was astonished that I had never noticed that amazing smile before and I was hooked after that first introduction. Our relationship has endured a move from Iowa to Austin and then back, due to a job for me and for Chad’s acceptance into dental school. An engagement, therefore, sort of took a back seat due to all of these life changes. But, when we did get engaged, we decided early on to go away for the wedding. Florida was our state of choice and the second we saw Carillon Beach and The Meeting House we knew it was the place we would say some very special words to each other. We also loved the idea of an outdoor reception, and The Village Green was perfect. Not to mention Avis was sweet as pie, and made us feel right at home. She was there for us through the entire process, and we are forever grateful for that.

The inspiration for our wedding style and colors was fairly simple, we both wanted to keep it fresh, clean, and crisp. My favorite color is green, so we just kind of ran with it from there. We used the olive branch for its symbolism, and incorporated it throughout the day. Those July days in Florida can get a bit muggy, so we wanted to keep things nice and light. We wanted to make sure that all of our guests who made the trip felt welcome and relaxed. I was pretty laid back about the details, and it all came together better than we could have imagined, thanks to Christina from Events by Nouveau Flowers, and no thanks to rain all morning.

We made a pact with each other to experience our day together because we both wanted to see what the other was seeing. We were always by each other’s side and wanted to be in that place for our first day of married life. We are so glad we did! Although, I think we have more pictures of us smooching than not, oh well!!

We were also able to incorporate some old and new into the day. We were given beautiful Irish Waterford toasting flutes, we had a local printer design and print a Quaker-style wedding certificate that we used in place of a traditional guest book, each of the bouquets were wrapped in my Grandmother’s scarves, and my bouquet had the rosary given to me by my Grandparents for my First Communion. I also had my monogram in blue sewn into my dress along with some “Irish luck” from my mom.

We did have a fun time deciding on favors for our guest. We came up with using champagne flutes as our escort cards. Thank goodness for Avis! I had very vague idea and she made it come to life! She came up with a cute little saying to pull it all together. We also decided on koozies, with custom art work of the Meeting House and our wedding date. They turned out perfectly!

We had quite a few friends tell us how much they couldn’t remember about their own wedding day, and many of them said if they could do it all over again they would have it filmed. This became a priority for us and when we started do some research on it, we were blown away by the work of Sixpence Productions. I would sit and watch other couples’ sneak peek films, and I felt like I was actually there. Joanna and Rob were incredible! We have guests to this day who see our film and tell us that they didn’t even realize they were there filming. It means everything to us to have this very special day and the special moments on film for us to forever enjoy!

Every time I watch the sneak peek footage (which I’m not sure if I should admit how many times I’ve replayed it), it’s so special for me to see Chad’s reaction to seeing me as the doors of the Meeting House opened. We decided not to see each other before the ceremony; I am so glad we waited because is this one of my most favorite moments. Had it not been caught on film, I would have never truly understood how he was feeling.

Having beautiful photographs to complement our film was also at the top of our priority list. Paul Johnson Photography truly gave us timeless photographs to cherish for a lifetime. Paul and Mecheal were wonderful! Their work tells a story of the day. I can see what Chad was doing at the exact time I was doing what brides do, and vice versa. What a priceless gift!

Bohemian Chic Chicago Wedding

When you get right down to it, this is the kind of wildly beautiful yet deeply personal wedding we preach here on SMP. From the gorgeous blush and gold stylings by Kelly Lenard to the Bride’s late mother’s photograph sewn into her BHLDN dress, it’s everything an “I do” should be and we’re got a front row seat. Lauren Balingit captured the moments, and you can get started in the gallery right here.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/99307745 600 338]

From The Bride…On June 7th 2014 I married my Prince Charming, Mike, in the suburbs of Chicago, and my fairytale wedding came true. It was a sunny day, filled with our best friends and family celebrating the commitment we made to each other. I was lucky enough to hire Lauren Balingit, a film photographer, to capture all of the day’s beautiful moments, and her fiancé, Alex Balingit formerly of 27 Entertainment.

The décor was a combination of gold, blush and pale blue, along with pieces of my favorite childhood memories. The nostalgic smells of lavender from family trips to France, several Disney elements, blue birds, and my favorite flower, lily of the valley. I remember picking the lilies in my Grandmother’s garden in Indiana with my Mom. Both my Mom and Grandma, sadly, could not be present on our special day. My Mom was close to my heart though as my Aunt Cyndy sewed a picture of her in my dress. Also, for our recessional we asked our friends and family to sprinkle us with the blue bird confetti (that my aunts and cousins individually hand-punched!) to honor my Mom’s beautiful spirit. Blue birds also adorned our wedding cake, tying a bow of ribbon with their beaks, similarly to how Cinderella’s dress was sewn together.

I felt like a true princess wearing the wedding gown I chose from BHLDN Chicago, designed by the incredible Catherine Deane. My lovely veil was vintage-inspired as well from the bridal boutique Meringue, also in Chicago. I wore the timeless Sakura halo created by Cécile Boccara from France, which further incorporated the delicate pearls that embellished my dress. I carried a vintage Whiting & Davis gold mesh bag, and my earrings were by Nadri that my Mike had given me for our one-year anniversary. The morning of our wedding day, he surprised me with a gold monogram necklace incorporating my new initials, LOM. It was an honor to wear it as part of my wedding ensemble.

The incredibly talented wedding stylist, Kelly Lenard from Intertwine, is whom I give all the credit for our wedding décor. She communicated with me for months to bring all of my scattered ideas to tasteful fruition and beauty. I asked Kelly to incorporate as much gold into the day as possible. She misted metallic gold paint onto baby’s breath, eucalyptus leaves and seeds, to enhance our whimsical theme. She even surprised me the day of the wedding with the most stunning bright pink peonies that complimented my bridesmaid’s dresses perfectly! Also, as a tribute to the amazing Irish family I was marrying into, Bells of Ireland adorned the pews of the church aisle. My husband Mike and I used the cork collection filled with the memories we had shared and written on, to use for place card holders at our reception.

Two days after our wedding I was beyond excited to get dressed up again, but this time having the magnificent city of Chicago for a backdrop. Kelly Lenard created a stunning secondary bouquet for me, incorporating more vibrant colors and large garden roses, and a gorgeous floral crown. Lauren Balingit photographed us as we frolicked around our favorite city and strolled along the crystal blue water. After the shoot, Mike and I visited our favorite Irish Pub in the city, The Celtic Crossing for a pint of the black stuff. It was the perfect way to end our wedding weekend!

Stylin’ Cape Cod Wedding at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

If your currently pining for the warm, sunny days of summer, I’ll do you one better. That magical summer light and a wedding so sweet your heart will warm the rest of your body right up. It’s perhaps better than being at the beach. Captured by Servidone Studios Photography, this wedding, with it’s convertible sunset cruise and perfect use of seersucker, is smiles guaranteed.

From Servidone Studios Photography…It is ALL about the details. Sara and Jason are two of the most easy going people you’ll meet. Their day was full of details that were personalized just to them. It was 100 degrees or so in Boston that day, but, on the cape, with the ocean breeze… it was the absolute perfect day.

Sara’s lace Pronovias dress was perfection, along with her beachy Born wedges and fabulous headband. Jason’s attire was beyond “beach hip” with his floral tie, J.Crew seersucker suit, and sea green Sperry top siders; Sara and Jason were stylin’.

In addition to their attire, every detail contributed to their stylish day. From the 1960s Imperial Convertible they drove from their ceremony, to the steel drum band, to the orange beach umbrellas at the Sea Crest Beach hotel…

At the reception, their details were full of sea shells, glass, and other DIY items.

Sara and Jason are two of the most easy going people you’ll meet; a casual chic affair was perfect for them. Congratulations to this blissfully happy and in love couple! (Who are currently expecting their first child… Well, other than their weimaraner!)

Classic Blueberry Pie + A First Birthday Party!

Recently my little guy turned ONE! I’m still kind of in shock over the whole situation… but I knew we had to throw an amazing first birthday party regardless. Liam LOVES blueberries. They are by far his favorite food. He could eat blueberries morning, noon, and night. So for his first birthday I figured it would only be appropriate to throw him a blueberry inspired Birthday party.

The lovely ladies over at Mint Space Design put together all of the final touches to make his day extra special!

Blueberry pies are perfect for just about every occasion (just ask Liam). They are super easy to make, and look so pretty. This is my super simple blueberry pie recipe:

Classic Blueberry Pie
prep time
20 Minute/s
cook time
50 Minute/s
total time
1 Hour/s 10 Minute/s
Serves 0Ingredients
  • 1c White Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3-4 cups fresh blueberries
  • 2 pre made pie crusts (the kind that you can roll out) - or you can totally make your own!
  • Whites of 1 egg (optional)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Combine sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl cover your blueberries with the sugar mixture.
  4. Line a pie dish with one pie crust. Pour mixture into the crust.
  5. Cut remaining pastry into 1 inch wide strips, and make lattice top.
  6. (This step is optional, but gives the crust a shiny, sparkly effect) Brush Top with egg whites, and sprinkle with white sugar.
  7. Bake pie on bottom shelf of oven for about 50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

This recipe can also be used to make adorable Mini-Pies. For the Mini Pies you will need about 15 mini pie tins, and an additional pie crust. Simply follow the instructions above, and using your mini pie tin as a guide, cut out the pie crust for each mini pie. Mini pies are a bit more time consuming, but they are really perfect for individual servings of pie! The recipe above yields about 15 mini pies.

Yacht Club Wedding in Manahawkin, New Jersey

Thanks to the stunning captures from Tina Jay Photography, we’ve got a sneak peek into what a wedding at Mallard Island Yacht Club is really like – and believe me, you’re going to want to in on this. Wth a waterfront venue and sophisticated beachy details, the gallery is chock-full of summer wedding inspiration – check it out!

From Tina Jay PhotographyJanine & Mike had an absolutely beautiful summer day for their gorgeous wedding at the Mallard Island Yacht Club in Manahawkin, New Jersey, on August 31st, 2013. The venue is right on the water, and is stunning inside and out. It has one of the most amazing “getting ready” rooms I’ve ever seen! Janine’s details were stunning, from her invitations to her tablescapes. I adored the “beach tag” name cards, and the seashell adorned cake. Plus, her dress was to DIE for! I absolutely loved the details on the front, as well as the strap details in the back. Mike’s parents have a beach house close to the venue, so he had pretty much grown up at the shore, where the reception was held. Mike recently entered the Navy, a lifelong dream of his. Throughout the past year while planning the wedding, he was away at training most of the time. The time apart made them stronger, and now Janine & Mike have moved to San Diego for his job.

From Artworks Wedding Cinema… Kris and Jessica are one of those couples who you just want to be around. They both have a passion for life and are always smiling … and their smiles are contagious! They celebrated their wedding in one of Atlanta’s most elegant country clubs, The Country Club of the South. The ballroom has a rustic feel with the high wood beams and chandeliers, yet still has a classy and elegant feel to it. Add to that rich Tiffany blue with pops of coral and tan, it makes for a super classy and stylish spring wedding. We loved all the details and prettiness this bride (and her mom!) put into the decor, and it makes it that much more gorgeous when you add a group of people with a contagious sense of happiness. It was a wonderful day and we were so happy they chose us to be a part of it!

Photographed by Louise Buma with a charming film from Joy Churchill, it’s a down home DIY affair done right. So if minty green details, big yellow balloons, and a honey-hued Volkswagen are your thing (be still my vintage loving heart), make sure to browse through the rest of this sweet soiree right here.

From the Bride…. Pete and I met in high school and started dating in our final school years. He was different to other boys- smart, down to earth and an all round-romantic! We went separate ways at university only to realise, we were meant to be. Time apart saw us both mature and realise what we wanted in life and that was each other.

Pete proposed in the pouring rain in the Italian town of Assisi. We were near the end of a month long trip and I was getting slightly exhausted of sight-seeing. He insisted that we take a walk through the towns park, which was situated on a hill over-looking the Umbrian Hills. Reluctantly, I slowly walked behind him taking photos under my umbrella. While snapping away on my camera, the next thing Pete was down on one knee, asking me to spend the rest of his life with him. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Not only did he have a ring, he had carried it with him for the entire trip! We took the train back to Rome that night and celebrated over Pasta, Tiramasu and Champagne!

We planned our wedding for exactly a year later on January 11th 2014 in Maffra, the town where Pete grew up and where his family still reside. It was important to both of us to be married in a church and a place that had special meaning. Pete and I both grew up in Catholic families and I’ve always dreamed of being married in an old church in a small country town. From the very beginning of the wedding planning, I was certain that I wanted to DIY as much possible for our wedding day. We wanted the day to reflect us and who we were as a couple. As an art teacher, I love getting creative and Pete was happy that we would be saving on costs by doing everything ourselves.

The ceremony was held at St Mary’s Catholic Church on the same street that Pete’s parents live. My father passed away three years ago, so my brother took the reins of walking me half way up the aisle where my mum took over and walked me the rest of the way to Pete. It was truly special. Following, we had our reception of 85 guests at Duart Homestead. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés outside Duart under the Moreton Bay Fig tree while the bridal party had photos. The night consisted of delicious vegetarian food (both Pete and I are vegetarian), speeches, great music, dancing, laughs in the photo-booth we created and even a surprise ukulele performance by Pete and his family. Guests were given homemade jam (made by Pete!) and honey jars from a locally sourced bee keeper. All the decorations which included 80 metres of hand-sewn bunting, were created and put together with the help of my mum, family and wonderful bridal party while the florist created exactly what I had envisioned of something unique while still reflecting a “country-rustic” theme.

My dress was an ivory lace trumpet gown with capped sleeves and a key-hole back accompanied by a simple drop veil, fresh-flowers pinned through my hair and blue shoes. I struggled choosing one single colour for the bridesmaids to wear so went for my three favourite colours instead while keeping the same style. Pete managed to find some Vegan leather shoes which he was most adamant about wearing and he and the groomsmen pulled off the mint-green bow ties oh so sweetly!

Louise, Lisa and Joy captured our day wonderfully! They were such a joy to work with and we had a lot of fun with them during the photos after the ceremony.

We were truly blessed with the help we had from family and friends putting the day together. Everything was better than imagined and I wouldn’t change anything… if anything, I’d do the whole day all over again!

Romantic Miami Wedding at Red Fish Grill

This is the kind of wedding that really makes my heart sing. Because not only is it filled with gorgeous details that will leave my head spinning all day (hello gorgeous blooms from Ines Naftali, I’m talking to you), but it’s also overflowing with love. The kind of love you can just feel through each of 13:13 Photography‘s beautiful images, and it just takes one look at this gallery to see what I mean.

From The Bride… Ben and I share a contagious kind of love that surrounds us and makes everyone around feel confident, happy and at ease, so when it came time to plan our wedding the most important thing was to bring together all of our closest friends and family for an unforgettable celebration inspired by a beautiful mashup of the best of both of us. Since we fell in love during our last two years attending the University of Miami, it was an obvious choice to get married close to where it all began. Matheson Hammock provided the perfect backdrop: a lush grassy park with huge photogenic trees for the ceremony, and an old historic coral structure for the reception nestled in an idyllic beach lagoon that overlooks Biscayne Bay with the downtown Miami skyline glistening on the horizon. It’s a setting so naturally gorgeous it hardly needs any decoration, and a venue my very foodie family certainly approved of as well. Both Ben and I are borderline flower children and true creatives at heart, and we wanted to create an environment for our wedding that felt elegant yet down-to-earth and infused with personal touches to make it feel like us. Our very own intimate park to oceanside bohemian fairytale.

To bring the vision to life, we opted against hiring a planner to help save a few bucks and since my career in marketing/PR made me somewhat well-equipped to pull this off. Plus, bridezilla just isn’t my style. The deep greens and lush, organic hues you’d find a tropical garden served as our primary color palette, paired with my very favorite coral peonies (luckily just barely in season!) to add just the perfect pop of color. The florist was among the most important line items in our budget, and my sweet amazing mom who knows everything about nature deserves all the credit for working closely with the incredibly talented Ines Naftali to help create the most gorgeous unkempt arrangements and bouquets that fit beautifully amid the natural, uneven textures of driftwood, burlap, vintage glassware and twinkling candles that I wanted to incorporate into the tablescape design. I’d fallen in love with Ashley and Philip’s work and unique style after stumbling upon their blog a few years back, and after exchanging a few emails, just knew that they were the only photographers who could capture the genuine emotion and essence of our special day in a way that we will treasure for years to come. Everything else we kept whimsical and simple.

Ben personally wrote our entire inter-faith ceremony, and I put my artistic talents to work by designing and creating all of our paper elements by hand — including the cut-out paper heart fan programs, chevron seating cards, craft paper menus and handwritten notes. Inspired by old Miami photographs, the thank-you cards resembled real vintage postcards that displayed various images of 1920s Matheson Hammock Park, which were taken right beside the place where our reception actually took place. Each table was designated by a vintage Miami postcard image, showing different locations around Miami that holds special meaning in our relationship. From our mismatched bridesmaid dresses to the assortment of mini key lime pies in lieu of a formal wedding cake, traditional and matchy-matchy just isn’t our style. Our wedding reflected exactly who Ben and I are as a couple — fun, free-spirited and marvelously complex — in everything from the paper lanterns our closest friends helped us string up earlier that morning, to the Polaroid selfies our guests took instead of signing a guest book, down to the perfectly crisp fall weather and waves of positive energy flowing through atmosphere all evening. It really was the best day ever.

Charming Nautical Rhode Island Wedding

To say that I’m obsessed with coastal Rhode Island weddings as of late is quite an understatement. I’ll be tying the knot there next summer, so when a pretty like this pops up in my inbox? I get a little pin-crazy. Understandably so… Mirelle Carmichael‘s captures of this sweet summer day are unbelievably beautiful, and the overall feel is just the right amount of nautical loveliness. Head to the gallery to be charmed.

From the beautiful Bride… After one of my closest guy friends from Colby College introduced me in DC to his best friend from high school, the rest was history!  We were so happy to have our wedding in my home state of Rhode Island, celebrating our special day in May when spring was in full bloom during Memorial Day weekend.  Being a sailor from the South Shore of Massachusetts, the groom loves all things nautical.  My goal was to find a balance between coastal-antique elegance and nautical charm.  From a picture I came across on Pinterest of beautiful blue/green sea-glass, that jump started my wedding inspiration board.  I knew I wanted to tie into the wedding shades of nautical navy blue, gold tones and pops of bold pink and fuchsia colors.

I loved working with a few highly recommended vendors through experience, but I was thrilled to be working with a couple of vendors from my hometown of North Providence.

We selected Castle Hill Inn to get ready the day of our wedding for its spectacular views and suites. This is now a sentimental location where we can celebrate future anniversaries together.

The ceremony took place in the perfectly sized, Our Lady of Mercy Chapel on the Grounds of Salve Regina University, nestled among the Newport Mansions, which provided an intimate wedding we hoped for.  The Robert Stern designed chapel displayed simple, elegantly curved lines outside, and a horseshoe setting inside, which surrounded us with our family and friends on all sides, like a loving embrace.  It was so special to be surrounded by loved ones as the Groom’s family priest conducted the wedding mass.

The reception would capture the soft tones of gentle spring flowers contrasted with the sharp ocean blue and luscious green lawn of the Glen Manor House perched on the east side of Aquidneck island in the middle Narragansett Bay.  The breathtaking day was matched with the dramatic, foreboding clouds of an afternoon thunderstorm that would threaten, but luckily never damper.  The sun shown bright on the luscious garden as we progressed through the family photos.  The pastels of the groomsmen’s ties complimented with the sea glass green bridesmaids dresses for a preppy New England atmosphere sprinkled with some southern comforts.

Throughout the French Chateau perched on the waters of the Sakonnet River, sea-glass soft blues and greens, antique lace, punctuated by gold-rimmed place settings and elegant floral centerpieces (perfect pops of color), matching its historic beauty.  I loved how our flowers matched perfectly to our mother’s dresses!  The bouquets were collections of the delicate spring flowers of late May – most predominantly the explosive peonies, crowned with their coral centers.  I smiled when I saw them!  (When my then fiancé picked me up from the bridal salon with my wedding dress all covered up tight, there was a single peony on the passenger side seat of his car.  I was all smiles from that point on!)

The sprawling greens hosted our guests, and the bountiful gardens giving way to green lawns hosting boisterous games of corn hole before slopping away to the cool waters of the North Atlantic.

The elegant beauty of the dining room gave way to the sharper contrasts of the ballroom.  The bold tablecloths of navy and white stripes, the beauty of a perfectly crafted nautical cake, were matched by a dynamic light show dancing up the walls and matching the beat of Boston Common.  The dancing was enhanced by the wedding’s signature nautical drink, the Dark and Stormy.

It was the perfect day. We couldn’t be happier!

Modern White Loft Wedding at Studio 450

There’s something about a white wedding. It’s as classic as they come (think tuxes, lace, and chandeliers). But this white wedding is taking on a fresh modern style with Studio 450 as the backdrop, the New York skyline in full view and details by Roey Mizrahi Events and Blade Floral And Event Design that add a dash of sparkle to this loft affair. From The Bride…I’m known to be difficult to surprise, but I was completely shocked when, on a freezing January Thursday afternoon, Danny (who was supposed to be on vacation in Miami) popped up in Hudson River Park and proposed (a friend lured me to the park by suggesting we grab coffee near my office)!

Though the proposal was a shock, I must admit that I definitely had a vision for our wedding. Since I was little, I’ve been obsessed with NYC, and years ago, I saw a story about a New York loft wedding in NYC that stuck with me. Years later, I moved to NYC and met and fell in love with a born-and-bred Queens boy, so it made perfect sense to get married in the city we love, and bring the picture in the story I read to life!

Right after we got engaged I googled ‘nyc loft wedding,’ and Studio 450 popped right up. As soon we walked in, I knew it was the place where we would get married. Not only does it have incredibly breathtaking views of the city, but it was the perfect place for the ‘modern,’ ‘classic,’ ‘airy’ feel I wanted for our wedding. I wanted to play up the clean, open feeling of Studio 450, and I love muted colors, so choosing our color scheme of gray, white and silver was an easy one. I know that ‘classic’ and ‘modern’ are sort of opposites, but our fantastic vendors immediately understood and perfectly carried out our vision! While I thought I had really modern taste, Anne from Blade Floral quickly coined me a ‘modern romantic’ – and she was completely right! She created a stunning, romantic chiffon chuppah and lush centerpieces, that were offset by more modern vases and silver accents.

Danny and I knew we wanted a wedding that was beautiful, fun, and most importantly, centered around our family and friends. We both come from strong Jewish families, but mine is secular, and Danny’s is Modern Orthodox. It was essential for us to incorporate both of our traditions into our ceremony and reception. It wasn’t always simple, but we were able to create the perfect blend. Our friends recommended us to our phenomenal rabbi who worked with us to create the perfect ceremony – a traditional Modern Orthodox ceremony with modern twists like having special women in our lives read blessings they created, and both of us exchanging rings. Two of the most meaningful parts of the ceremony to me was us honoring our grandmothers (who could not be at the wedding) – I was married in the same ring as my mother and grandmother, and Danny walked down the aisle to ‘Danny boy’ which his grandma always sang to him.

The biggest compliment we received from our wedding was that it felt very ‘us.’ That was so meaningful to us because we really wanted the wedding to feel personal to our family and friends. We wanted our reception to feel like one big party, and it definitely did! Our family and friends danced all night, and Bud Maltin Metropolitan Music played the perfect blend of dance music my friends love, my dad’s favorite Stevie Wonder songs, and pleased Danny’s friends with tons of Beatles hits. Pride Caterers suggested a bourbon bar, because we love bourbon, and we had tons of handmade signage because my mom owns a little stationary company, and paper details are a big deal to us!

We wouldn’t have been able to create our vision without the help of our amazing vendors. I was recommended to Roey Mizrahi of Roey Mizrahi Events by the sister-in-law of one of my best friends, and knew she was the right person to plan our wedding right away. She never missed a detail, listened to my endless questions and comments, came up with great ideas, and executed our day perfectly. We are so grateful for her, and I know our wedding would not have gone as smoothly without her! All of our vendors are not only talented, but truly cared about our wedding. From our incredible photographer Lindsay Madden sending me pictures of the perfect spots she found in Central Park for our first look, to Thea of Hushed Commotion working so hard to ensure I had the perfect veil, and Angi of Angelique Ink making edit after edit to our invitations, everyone truly made me feel like my wedding was incredibly special to them. We are so appreciative of their talent and hard work to create our wedding day!

Old World Romance at Costa Navarino Resort

This wedding should come with a warning label. The styling by White Ribbon Boutique Events Coordination is so gorgeous you might just have to put off that work project a bit longer, the setting is so breathtaking you might scrap your honeymoon plans and opt for a Mediterranean getaway, and it’s all captured so beautifully by George Pahountis your fingers will get tired from all the pinning. At the very least we recommend you sit down while cruising through this romantic al fresco affair.

From White Ribbon BoutiqueWe started working with Abbey & Costas over a year before their wedding date and although we had never met them in person, we felt like we knew them for many years. They are one of the loveliest couples we have ever had the pleasure of working with and who shared a great vision for their wedding. The groom’s parents were born in a small Messinian village in the South Peloponnese, Greece and they selected Costa Navarino resort, in Messinia to hold their wedding as, due to its location, it represented part of the Groom’s family origins.

Many of their close friends and family travelled form very far away to celebrate the couple’s journey. The wedding ceremony was held at a chapel in the Groom’s hometown while the reception and pre-wedding festivities were held at a beautiful balcony of the resort overlooking the blue sea and green golf courses.

Our inspiration for the décor was based on the natural ambience of the Messinian region and we decided to use a mix of green foliage, blush and pink flowers and season fruits. Neutral colored linens and vintage accessories complemented the décor by creating a simple and sophisticated look, which blended in perfectly with the surroundings.

Guests experienced some unforgettable moments that day, with the emotional first dance of the couple, the heartfelt speeches of the couple’s older siblings and the night long dancing of guests.
