Marriage Matters: One Year Anniversary Shoot

You know why we love weddings? Because weddings lead to beautiful marriages, and you know we’re all about that. Take Book and Chet and their one year anniversary as example. For the goal of their one year anniversary session was so that these two could relieve the magic that they felt just a year prior, and we happen to think they nailed every darn detail. With Julie Paisley behind the lens this is one celebration you’ve got to see, waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From Julie PaisleyA wedding day can be rushed. So many emotions, timelines, and trying to please everyone sometimes leaves little time for many pictures of the bride and groom. But, what if you get back dressed up on your one year anniversary and relive all those moments again? You spend so much money on the perfect dress, isn’t it fun to wear it again? That is exactly what Brooke and Chet did. We had amazing time “recreating” their day and celebrating that first year of being husband and wife.

From The Couple…Our relationship started off as very good friends and blossomed into something very special. We seemed almost drawn to one another from the start. We found that we had very similar beliefs about life and found that we had many things in common. Early on in our relationship we faced the tragic losses of parents and grandparents. This time was unspeakably hard. We leaned on each other for support and in this time became a closer and more connected couple because of it.

Five years later we were planning a wedding. We had so much fun planning our big day. The day was so surreal, unique and special. We loved celebrating our love and being surrounding by our loved ones. Having the opportunity to get dressed back up in our wedding attire and model for Julie Paisley’s workshop was amazing. It brought back so many fond memories of our big day. We are thankful to Julie for giving us the opportunity to relive the memories of our wedding day with this shoot.

Our first year of marriage has flown by right before our eyes. Little has changed in our relationship since becoming husband and wife but the fact is our connection has only become stronger. It is a connection that words fail to express but is very real to us. Our first year of marriage has been partly spent supporting each other in starting and growing our own businesses. One of the pillars of our relationship from the beginning has been supporting one another. When we were not working we spend time planning trips as we have a passion for travel. We make seeing new and exciting places together a priority in our relationship. Having these adventures with the person you love the most in the world makes every adventure that much more special. We also adopted a little white fur ball named Lynxie. This little cat has been the perfect addition to our family of three and has enriched our lives.

Our first year of marriage has been full of excitement, support, love and adventure. We cannot wait to see what our future holds.

Organic Charlottesville Wedding

Tucked away in this beautiful Charlottesville affair are sooo many amazing details, it’s almost impossible to know where to begin.  From the soft, organic florals crafted by Mallory Joyce to the pretty paper goods from Joie De Vivre to the lavender hues sprinkled throughout. From Michael and Carina Photography… Simple elegance styled by the immensely talented Mallory Joyce, this September wedding is one for the books. Neutral color palettes and natural elements, including the vineyards and the spectacular mountain views, framed their love so perfectly.

The couple’s natural chemistry completes the intimate feeling of this celebration. Andrew and Esther married on the patio of the Market at Grelen in Charlottesville on a misty September afternoon and celebrated with their friends and family, who traveled from all over the world, in a festive tent on a hill.

Classically Elegant Santorini Wedding

A stunning Santorini wedding, that’s something that just happens in the movies, right? Oh no my friends, this sort of beauty actually does take place in real life and Anna Roussos’ pics are proof. Orchestrated by The Bridal Consultant and overflowing with blush roses and beautiful bridesmaids decked out in Jenny Yoo, this destination wedding is what fairy tales are made of – more in the VAULT right this way!

From The Bridal Consultant.. It was after Alex and Oliver spent their first holiday as a couple on Santorini that they knew they wanted to be married on this beautiful Greek Island.

This was the perfect choice as they also wanted their wedding to be a bit more traditional than the usual overseas wedding. If I had to summarize their wedding abroad in a couple of words, they would be elegant and stylish with a hint of vintage.

Alex and Oliver chose to have their wedding ceremony at Le Ciel. Le Ciel is a stunning wedding venue that was purposely built on the edge of the caldera in 2015. They followed this with their wedding reception at La Maltese Hotel, which shares the same magnificent sunset views over the Caldera.

The Bride’s wedding dress comprised of two elements. Alex fell in love with a Caroline Castigliano shrug. She returned to the same boutique (Les Trois Soeurs) where she tried on different silhouettes until she found the perfect Sarah Janks wedding dress.

Alex chose a beautiful pair of Jimmy Choo shoes and clutch bag; and as she wanted to keep her accessories simple, Alex opted for a stunning floor length ivory veil, diamond earrings and a matching diamond tennis bracelet. In the evening Alex removed the shrug and added a beautiful vintage style diamante belt.

The bridesmaids’ dresses were by Jenny Yoo and were flown in specially from New York. They were called Juliette in Cameo Pink with gold flecked lace.

The groom, his best men and the fathers of the bride and groom looked equally elegant in their attire. They opted for a classic navy blue three-piece with a modern twist. The suits by Sartorial Style of Saville Row were personalized with a scope waistcoat, wider than normal lapels and pink stitched highlights (such as a single cuff buttonhole) to match the bridesmaid’s dresses.

Details are always an important part of the wedding day and Alex and Oliver spent months building a mood board. We liaised with designers including Wedding Wish (wedding florist and decorations) in Santorini to create the beautiful image of their wedding day they envisioned.

Their wedding cake was a four-tied ivory cake with a hand piped lace design to match the bride’s dress. The bespoke wedding stationery, including menus, were designed and made to order by a stationer in the UK and were in keeping with their colors and theme.

For the favors, Alex chose personalized candles for the ladies and Oliver chose a cigar and whiskey bar for the men.

From the Bride… We first holidayed in Santorini as a couple and we simply fell in love with the island. The weather was beautiful, the scenery was spectacular and the sunset was one of the best we had seen. We’d always imagined that we would get married in an English manor house with beautiful gardens, but the thought of getting married with the Santorini sunset in the background changed our minds. The whole planning experience up until the big day was one emotional rollercoaster, but was worth every moment! Our best memory from the day was the moment we saw each other at the aisle and our first dance. This was made even more special as we had sparklers for all of the guests and fireworks at the end of the dance.

Classic Marblehead Yacht Club Wedding

Combine sweetly classic details with carefully crafted nautical stylings and the results are a seriously stunning affair we can definitely get behind.  From the lovely bride in her Hayley Paige gown to the gorgeous Eastern Yacht Club setting to the navy blue stripes filling the party with seaside-inspired pretty. See it all captured beautifully by Rachel Red Photography in THE VAULT.

From Rachel Red Photography… In August 2014, Phil proposed to April under a 300-year-old oak tree while they were on vacation in Les Baux-de-Provence, France. The proposal was simple and romantic, despite the fact that it took Phil three attempts to coax April into joining him in the picturesque spot under the tree where he planned to pop the question.

Phil and April were married on July 11 in Marblehead, Massachusetts at St. Michael’s Church, the oldest episcopal church in New England. The wedding weekend involved numerous festivities, including a lobster bake rehearsal dinner at the Arnold family’s Marblehead residence, a reception at the Eastern Yacht Club and an after-party on the Hannah Glover, a ferry which took guests on a leisurely ride from the yacht club back to the hotel.

Planning to take their wedding photos at a historic location, Phil and April headed to Marblehead’s seaside Fort Sewall, where they got a little more history than they bargained for. Unbeknownst to them, there was a Revolutionary War reenactment going on at the fort that day. This led to some truly memorable moments, such as the regiment’s fiddler welcoming them with his rendition of the Wedding March, a chance for the couple to fire off a revolutionary cannon and unique wedding photos.

After they arrived at the yacht club by launch for the reception, the staff invited Phil and April to set off the club’s cannons for “colors,” which initiates a moment of silence while the sun sets behind Marblehead Harbor and the American flag is lowered for the night. “How could we turn down participating in such storied tradition, not to mention firing two cannons on our wedding day?”

A Dining Room/ Studio Makeover

Marble and the perfect shade of gray hold a special place in my heart, and I have a home full of both to prove it. But this dining room and studio space designed by Jacquelyn Clark of Lark & Linen (another special place in my heart holder) totally blows any marble / gray combo completely out of the water. It’s gorgeous and the perfect little spot for photographer Heidi Lau to craft some magic.

Heidi and I have worked together on many, many, (many), projects over the course of the last year, but this one right here may just be my favorite. Not long after I announced I was starting my own business, Heidi and her husband purchased a home just outside of the city, which was in need of a fair bit of help (ie: dusty rose walls and lavender wall to wall carpeting – yum!)

Luckily, they were able to see past the original pastel mess, and ultimately took the plunge. Not long afterwards, I was brought on to help her transform her living room/dining room into her dining room/photography studio (you can see where we began right here).

We worked together over the past few months to come up with the perfect design, that worked for both her work life and family life, and I’m so excited to share with you all exactly where we landed. With photos from Heidi herself, and flowers provided by my sweet friend Becky, the results feel timelessly elegant, and Heidi to a T.

Gorgeous Giveaway Wedding Filled with Heart

Jessica and Eric are here to remind us what weddings are all about. For their day is one filled with compassion in the midst of heartache. A celebration that honors one important thing: love. For this deserving couple wanted nothing more than to share their special day with the Bride’s father during his courageous health battle, and thanks to the gracious donations from every selfless vendor involved, their dreams became reality. It’s weddings like this that remind us why we celebrate every moment and why marriage matters. See it all captured by Abigail Bobo Photography in THE VAULT! P.S. Have an amazing love story with your own. Share with us using #SMPShareYourStory

From Modern Vintage EventsWhen people in Nashville join forces to make something good happen, it does. We joined together with a group of local wedding vendors at Homestead Manor to give a wedding to a deserving couple, Jessica and Eric DeVaughn. Homestead Manor, along with Abigail Bobo Photography and Modern Vintage Events facilitated a giveaway that would give one couple a styled dream wedding paired with photography, planning, and brunch for up to 12 guests. Once the wheels were in motion other vendors opened their hearts and donated their talents.

Jessica and Eric are Berklee trained musicians who met in a college admissions office. Their story started with friendship and eventually evolved into a lasting love. “ My visions became clearer, my goals and ambitions became larger, and the world seemed much brighter,” explains Jessica, “I was less afraid, not simply because Eric came into my life, but because Eric taught me to live.” Those ambitions eventually led them all over the world as they performed on cruise ships. Music was such a part of those days that they eventually landed in a city rich with music. In the midst of their engagement Jessica’s dad was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia and then later with ALS. Both of these are aggressive and made a long future with her dad unsure. Jessica wanted the chance for her dad to be at her wedding and walk her down the aisle. To be there to give her away to the man who will walk with her through the rest of life’s journeys. There isn’t enough time for her dad to see it all, but there was enough time for him to take a walk with her.

Every aspect of the day was donated, from the venue, Homestead Manor, to photography, planning, a Carol Hannah Bridal gown flown from New York, Jewelry from Walton’s, hand calligraphy paper goods- including a copy of their vows in scripted with music notes on the back- from Script Merchant, to florals created by Basil and Bergamot, hair and makeup by Andrea Suarez of Salon N Fuse, Music from JD’s Music and hand dyed ribbon and lace goods from The Lace Atelier in Paris, France. Jessica has a love for sweets so Dulce Desserts donated a cake and Five Daughters Bakery contributed to her self-professed donut obsession.

Sometimes you say yes to something that you have no idea will grow and evolve in a way that shows you that it is divinely laid out. When we all said yes, we had no idea that it would shake us all and allow us to really give someone a beautiful wedding and lasting moments with her dad, moments that are fleeting. It would allow us to see two families come together and just love each other and let the world go for one day. It would let us watch a man and woman say yes to each other, allow us to watch a dad proudly walk his daughter down the aisle and give us a chance to see a wife, faithfully stand by her husband while supporting her daughter. The entire day was a testament to real marriage, real life. It showed us beauty, compassion and love all in the midst of heartache.

“About thirty minutes before the men were scheduled to try on their tuxes, my mother called to let me know my Dad was having a particularly rough morning. My Dad has always been a stoic and quiet man. I have seen him cry twice in my life, and both times it rocked me to my core,” says Jessica, when asked about the day, “My Dad was beside himself. He was crying heavy tears and was unable to explain what was wrong. When someone has FTD their frontal and temporal lobes slowly begin to die. This impacts their ability to find words and eventually to speak at all. It also impacts their emotional processes, causing rapid changes in mood and personality. My father was hurting and there was no clear way to help him. It was heartbreaking and I felt myself melting when I recognized that despite everyone’s best efforts, this is where we are. Eric said “Jess, we all have to remember that this is for your Dad. That there are no rules or limitations to how far we will go to make this possible for him. If he needs to wear his sweats to the wedding that is fine, if he needs help walking that is fine, and if he cries that is fine. All we can do is take this a second at a time.” I was reminded that in sickness and in health, I would have an incredible partner for the rest of my life.”

Times like this remind us as wedding vendors that this is why we do what we do. This is why we celebrate, and celebrate big, these moments. There are people there to celebrate with us that may not be around for long, and we are helping to create and capture moments that will never happen again.

“The wedding was more than a dream, it was pure magic. The sun came out and gave us the most beautiful fall day. Ladybugs buzzed around everyone and people whispered “it’s good luck!” Everyone arrived with a quiet sense of calm and purpose. We were enveloped in love and support” expresses Jessica, “My Dad did get to walk me down the aisle and as it turns out, everyone cried. I did get to marry my best friend in the company of those I love most. And we were given more grace than I ever imagined. I am not the same as I was, for now I know peace.”

Dreamy Malibu Fall Estate Wedding

It takes a special kind of vendor team to pull off a day like this. A day that’s hard to believe is actually a REAL wedding because it’s just that dreamy. But when cross the talents of Kurt BoomerThe Elegant NinjaTEAMPeony & Plum, and The Butter End Cakery, the impossible happens and we welcome it into The Vault with open arms. Go ahead and get lost in every last image.

From The Elegant Ninja PlanningWe celebrated Christian and Jordan’s intimate fall wedding at the hilltop of Malibu Rocky Oaks Vineyard. Ninja Berlanti helped plan and create this effortlessly elegant affair with no shortage of tasteful details. We particularly loved the graceful fall touches– from the fur area rug to the mini white pumpkins that held handwritten place cards. Christian had a clear vision that she wanted to incorporate fall into her décor without coming off too trendy or seasonal–the floral arrangements were grounded by a natural French linen runner and surrounded by candles in vintage brass holders and assorted specialty votive all prepared by Peony and Plum.

We incorporated the same effortless sophistication into the rentals– from the french linen oval back chairs to the tuft lounge furniture (provided by Archive Rentals). The light wood dining table was the perfect foundation for the gorgeous clear cut place settings- also provided by Archive Rentals.

Another unique detail from their wedding was the striking champagne tower made up of old fashion champagne coups. Christian and Jordan loved it so much, they insisted on doing the celebratory tower pour which was a huge hit with all the guests.

We loved Christian’s stunning dress, and all photos were captured stunningly by Kurt Boomer photography.

No-Bake Strawberry Champagne Cheesecake

[dotted]

Ingredients

8 large champagne glass servings

For the crust

14 whole graham crackers
10 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
4 tablespoons brown sugar
Pinch salt

For the cream cheese filling

2 pounds cream cheese, softened
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream

For the champagne strawberries

2 pounds fresh strawberries, washed and stemmed
1 bottle of your favorite champagne (save ½ cup for whipped cream)

For the champagne whipped cream

2 cups heavy whipped cream
½ cup confectioners’ sugar
½ cup of your favorite champagne

Directions

To prepare the strawberries
Pour your champagne over the strawberries until all are submerged. Cover and refrigerate for 20-24 hours to let the strawberries absorb the champagne. When you are ready to prepare the desserts, remove the strawberries from the champagne and thinly slice the strawberries.

To prepare the crust
In a food processor grind the graham crackers until they create a fine powder. Add the butter, brown sugar, and salt and mix well.

To prepare the cream cheese filling
Combine the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla and beat well. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream on high until it becomes stiff. Fold the heavy cream into the cream cheese mixture until it is well incorporated.

To prepare the desserts
Begin by filling 1/6th of a champagne glass with the crust mixture. Next, using an icing-piping bag, fill the next 1/6th of the glass with the cream cheese filling. Refrigerate for 15 minutes to allow the cream cheese filling to become firm. Finally, add a layer of champagne strawberries. Now your glass should be half full so simply repeat these layers one time to fill your champagne glass!

Top the dessert with champagne whipped cream, a dusting of edible glitter and serve with a miniature sparkler!

Organic Black Rocks Beach Wedding Inspiration

I had an intimate wedding and loved every bit. But I would have been happy as a clam with a beachy elopement, too. So, I’ll be saving my ideas for a seaside vow-renewal and today’s shoot from Kyle John Photography is being filed under said inspiration. Dreamy dress? Check. Pinch-me-perfect bouquet? Check. Tabletop beauty? Check. There’s even more pin-worthy goodness in THE VAULT.

Colors
Styles
Casual

From Kyle John PhotographyThere is a beach, by the edge of the wood, where walls of sharp black rock, regally tower from above ancient tree crowns into the deep pure waters by the ocean shore. Encompassed by this scape is a girl, blinding in beauty like a light that’s mirrored between the bleak rocky walls on the beach, waiting for the sun to stretch its arms above the horizon. Her delicate silk dress, draped on her body, is elegant in its simplicity. She’s refined, yet possesses a sort of wildness in her eyes. A confidence that burns like a lantern in the night. Unharmed by the piercing rocks beneath her naked feet, she conveys an unwavering strength from deep within. And as the first rosy rays embrace her on the shore, it appears to me so obviously, she is the breath of dawn, softening the treacherously beautiful landscape from which she was born.

Chic Chanel-Inspired 30th Birthday Bash

I know most women dread turning 30, but if 30 looks this good, trust me, there’s nothing to fear. With a super-chic Chanel theme, style blogger Stephanie Jenkins of Styled by Noir welcomed 30 in the most fabulous fashion. From the laser-cut and letterpress invitation suite from Lavender & Mint to the iconic Chanel details from ENCORE | Leslie Kaplan Event Design and photos from Jodee Debes Photography, this party has us wishing all birthdays were this marvelous!

From Jodee Debes PhotographyThis is a 30th birthday bash for blogger Stephanie Jenkins of Styled by Noir. Leslie Kaplan of Encore created this glam L.A. soirée—a flirty thirty cocktail gathering at Cecconi’s West Hollywood. This glitzy and swanky affair was inspired by the birthday girl’s love for fashion, all things French and Chanel designs. It came together with a feminine design with a modern edge and a color palette of black, white, blushy rose and copper accents.

Details from the party included: boxed couture letterpress invitation suite adorned with laser-cut acrylic camellias as a nod to Chanel’s iconic flower, tray-passed Champagne with a rose petal garnish and speciality cheeky napkins, a chiffon ribbon polaroid guestbook, paper camellia and rose flower wall behind the dessert display with Chanel-inspired No. 30 signage, a cake covered in white chocolate shavings with oversized black taper candles, girly ribbon bow chair treatments and confetti wands for the happy birthday serenade.

Sweet Oceanside Loft Engagement

We’re pretty much convinced Grace and Justin planned the best engagement session ever. Inviting along Meiwen Wang to what we might describe as the chicest Airbnb we’ve ever laid eyes on, this duo spent the morning snuggling with cups of coffee before hitting the sandy shores of Malibu. Capturing an afternoon filled with gorgeous light set against a rocky canvas, this is one wedding we just can’t wait to see. Get a glimpse at the pretty in THE VAULT!

From Meiwen WangGrace & Justin’s engagement was a dream to shoot. Grace had the wonderful idea of using an Airbnb so our choices were endless– we found the most beautiful little studio in LA and spent the morning there with coffee, breakfast, and lots of snuggling. I loved the space because it was personal, intimate, and I felt like I was watching a slice of their future married life together. After the loft we made our way up to Malibu for El Matador State Beach, which lived up to everything people say about it– the gorgeous light and rocky caverns. My favorite part of the shoot was Justin spent a few moments twirling Grace around & dancing at the edge of this giant cave. We are very excited for their wedding next summer!

Classic + Elegant Southern Wedding with a Modern Twist

If this isn’t a glamorous wedding, I don’t know what is. Each and every detail of this Dallas affair is fabulous—from the Bride’s gorgeous Vera Wang ballgown and makeup from Erin Blair Hair + Makeup, cascading sweetheart table centerpiece and that extravagant white wedding cakeShaun Menary Photography captured all the magic for you to lust after in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…We chose traditional/classic elegance with modern inspiration. Our primary goal was to make our guests feel like they were at a “ball”, which is why we chose a twelve piece big band for the formal reception. My family is Polish and we had several guests visiting from there, so we incorporated some Polish themes such as the bread and salt presentation, the vodka shots and the Polish wedding soup. We also wanted to highlight the talents of the Joule’s phenomenal kitchen and service staff so we really enjoyed their white glove service during dinner while our band played jazz, classical and big band music.

We kept our theme and colors clean and neutral. We piggy-backed off of the gold and the colors of our church and chose gold, lots of mirrors, and white flowers with natural greenery. We opted for an informal “tunnel” sendoff to our late night DJ party. We wanted everything to be fluid without feeling planned or on-the-clock. For us, the best way to do this was to keep it simple.

The DJ “late night” party was our favorite part. We wanted everyone to feel like they were at a dance club with their 300 best friends :) We had a lot of fun with this – we served mini junk food and Polish cabbage rolls. We had a barista station that brewed made-to-order coffees. For the decor we incorporated all gold everything including a mirror dance floor and disco balls. We used light to reflect our names off of the building behind us, which you could see through the windows behind our DJ. It was an awesome downtown/urban vibe. We had an engineer coordinating a lights show to correspond with the DJ’s song choices. If anyone needed a break, they could relax in the lounge areas we set up surrounding the dance floor.

Looking back, the MUSIC was the most important component of our wedding. We spent the most time coordinating with our church choir, the twelve piece band, and our DJ. We wanted to make sure that everyone was dancing all night, and for us it was a great success!

Al Fresco Summer Wedding at Tyler Arboretum

Family and friends all played a part in this rustic and romantic summer celebration from the officiant and crafted invitations to the homebrewed beer and candles atop the tables, making this special occasion sparkle even more. Another good friend, Eddie Winter of Readyluck, snapped away, capturing every moment to remember – see it all in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… Josh and I really wanted to include our friends and family in the wedding as much as possible. My cousin and bridesmaid, Jill, designed the Save-the-Date cards and invitations and had them printed in Baltimore, MD. We asked our good friend, Angelika, who we used to practice yoga with, to create and officiate the ceremony. Our friend, Evan, traveled from Portland to DJ the reception and after-party. A beer connoisseur and a friend we used to climb with on the east coast, Andrew, brewed four kegs of homemade beer for us. My dad picked all the wine and champagne. Our good friend Eddie Winter of READYLUCK, who we used to practice yoga with and shot many good memories of our budding relationship, came full circle and shot the photos at our wedding. Another friend, Angela, made candles for our dinner tables – Angela also gave me the pair of shoes I ended up wearing for the wedding. Our friend, Max, helped announce the wedding party and transition from dinner to dancing. One of the groomsmen, Keith, and Josh’s friend, Tim, rented out an AirBnB for everyone to party after the party.

I really wanted the color palette to showcase the rainy days of spring on the east coast (and Portland!), so I chose deep blues, greens and purples with small pops of red. My mom and I suggested ferns, red roses, green helleborus, delphinium, fiddleheads, purple sweet pea, blue thistle, and eucalyptus for the floral arrangements – Buttercup did a fabulous job, I loved the artichoke and protea flower they stuck in the bridesmaid bouquets to make them each unique! I wanted the bridesmaids, Caroline and Jill, to pick out dresses that were within the color palette and that had interesting textures, but something that they were totally comfortable in and that they would wear again. I loved my mom’s dress too – she actually picked hers out first and set the trend of how I wanted my ladies to look.

Josh was in charge of the cake – he wanted a “naked cake” with fruit and cream filling. We stuck some flowers on the outside to add some personality to it. It was delicious!

My favorite moment was turning the corner to come down the aisle and seeing all of my friends and family – when I realized that everyone was there to support Josh and me, I was overwhelmed by the love that surrounded us. Other favorite moments of mine were getting ready in the morning with my ladies, listening to everyone laugh and sniffle as Josh said his vows, and dancing with all of our friends and family. It was also a very special moment when everyone stopped to honor my brother who passed away earlier that year. Josh said his favorite moment was the first look when we met under this beautiful big tree by ourselves before the ceremony; and hanging out with all of our friends from both the east and west coast at the after-party. It was such a special time!

From Troy Grover Photographers..We so loved being a part of Brenda and Trevor’s stunning wedding at Catalina View Gardens with planner Constance Curtis! When Brenda first inquired with us, she said that the two things she wouldn’t sacrifice on were flowers and photography. We loved reading that – and feel that those two elements really go hand-in-hand. Carissa from JL Designs completely knocked-it-out-of-the-park with the flowers! Brenda also added in some beautiful design elements, like the table runners to bring a rich pop of color. But more important than how extremely beautiful this wedding was – are the two lives that came together. Brenda and Trevor (and their adorable baby girl) all have such kind and infectious personalities. Shooting their wedding day was such a joy to be a part of and we are thrilled to share these images of their beautiful day!

Garden-Inspired Puerto Rico Destination Wedding

When a wedding is set in a location as gorgeous as the St. Regis Bahia Beach, it rises in ranks pretty quickly. But add in Maria Lugo’s magic touch and a dress this stunning and well, we’re happy wedding campers. Our Labor Of Love captured the whole celebration, from fun first looks to dancing the night away thanks to The Flash Dance – see it all in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… Even though this was technically a destination wedding planned from NY, marrying each other in Puerto Rico really felt like home. Both John-Michael’s mother and father call Puerto Rico home, so it’s always had a special place in his heart and had real significance to his family. Ironically, my family had vacationed in Puerto Rico for several years, even before we had met. We spent New Years 2012 in San Juan, and joked that when we get married one day, we would bring all of our family and closest friends back to our favorite place. Once we got engaged in August 2014, it was a no brainer choosing where our wedding would take place, so we flew out to San Juan and toured a few venue options. When we drove into the gates of the St. Regis Bahia Beach in Rio Grande, we knew we would be so lucky to be married there. We hired Maria Lugo, an incredible wedding planner based in San Juan, and she helped bring our entire weekend vision to life.

We brought in the incredibly talented Yeah! Weddings from LA for our photographer, videographer and DJ. We knew they would capture our day perfectly and we wouldn’t settle for anyone else. We worked closely with Arquetipo for flowers and decor – they completely blew our mind and brought our garden-inspired, rustic-elegant vision to life. When we first saw the table presentation about a month before the wedding, it actually made me cry! Throughout planning the wedding, we really focused on the details – from the steel band and cigar roller at our Friday Night Welcome Dinner, to the incredibly fun Rumelier, authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, personalized sunglasses, and cocktail napkins featuring our English Bulldog Norman, we really wanted to make the wedding feel intimate and put our “stamp” on it. We had hand painted menus, laser-cut gold calligraphed names for every guest which we set on their place setting, and even found a late-night grilled cheese truck which served hot grilled cheeses inside brown paper lunch bags with a sticker caricature of our faces on the front. The 16-piece band (locally-based Cuenta Regresiva) was absolutely incredible and kept everyone dancing all night (they were the band that actually played on New Years 2012 when we first promised each other we would return to PR to get married!). It felt like Spring Break all over again with our best friends; it was wild! Everyone was in vacation-mode; our childhood friends from near and far were swimming and eating and dancing and drinking with our aunts and uncles and grandparents and college friends – we just felt so much love all day, every day of the entire weekend. Our favorite part of the weekend was just that – the fact that we had an entire weekend to celebrate with our family and best friends, each day was better than the one prior. I think we both kept waiting for it to pour or for there to be some minor disaster, but the weekend was flawless from start to finish. We felt calm, excited, not one bit of anxiety and kept thinking to ourselves… “We’re just SO lucky.” It really was a dream and we wouldn’t have changed a thing.

From Brianna Wilbur PhotographyThis vision for this shoot was all things southern classic with a romantic, feminine twist. The tulle, blush gown paired with the slightly whimsical, lush bouquet was the perfect combination to keep the bride polished but unpretentious. The linen inspired sitting area, hints of gold accents, and blush textures were chosen as timeless, elegant additions. I think spanish moss is one of nature’s prettiest gifts so I knew I wanted to incorporate it as much as possible. Magnolia Plantation is the perfect place for a dreamy love affair to unfold. This is for all the classic, romantic, plantation-loving brides out there!

Elegant Floral-Filled Yew Dell Gardens Wedding

The personal little details that make a wedding unique are why I continue to fall in love with each new “I do” every single day. This Southern celebration took the idea of tender touches and ran with it, from the Groom wearing his grandfather’s dress shoes to a repeat of the Bride’s parent’s first dance song from their own Kentucky wedding years ago. Natalie Watson and Keepsake Films captured every magical moment, helping our VAULT shine even brighter – more this way!

From the Bride… I grew up visiting family in Kentucky every holiday and summer. The music, food, scenery, and traditions are embedded in my heart. Both our late and living grandparents were champions of hospitality. Mine of the Southern variety and his big Italian family style; we wanted the reception to have that warmth. The groom and I share a love of bourbon, music, and the great outdoors and I wanted to share the magic of Kentucky. Many of our guests had never visited the Bluegrass State (we were sure to arrange a distillery visit). As a prop/wardrobe stylist I dove whole heartedly into designing an ethereal and dreamy event.

Every detail was personal. My uncle officiated the ceremony and we wrote our own vows. The aisle was flanked by two lions to represent our matching Leo birthdays. The groom wore his grandfather’s dress shoes and his cousin sang “Can’t Help Falling In Love” which was my parent’s first dance song at their KY wedding 35+ years ago. My mom sewed and pressed 400 ft of bunting to hang in the sailcloth tent, a lot of which came from old dance costumes, dresses, and my old fabric from fashion school. I took a lot of pride in collecting the vintage crystal and creating DIY details. Comfort food was served family-style on the same china set my grandparents used for their dinner parties. Queen Anne’s Lace, a staple of my grandfather’s farm, was featured in every floral arrangement. A bluegrass quartet graced the ceremony and cocktail hour, a nod to our love of music and my Appalachian roots. A phenomenal funk band lead the dance party at the reception complete with the groom and I standing in for a song before our exit.

If I could summarize the day in a word, it would be one that many guests have used to describe the festivities: magical. The clouds parted and the sun beamed just at the moment of our pronouncement and kiss (and moments later the strings played “Here Comes The Sun”). A pleasant surprise to us, our venue had a sculpture show on display throughout the grounds. The weather was perfect even though the forecast said rain. The rare harvest blood moon lit up the sky, a night before its peak. Most importantly we got to celebrate the magic that is true love, share the beauty of Kentucky with friends and family, and through personal details honor those who have passed that made us who we are.
