From Little Miss Party PlannerDays before the weather turned too cool for bare legs, this beautiful couple held a low key, romantic wedding in the East Village of NYC.

This laid back pair wanted a rustic and romantic feel, with chic touches for their wedding. They decided to host the reception in the gorgeous private event loft at Il Buco Alimentari in New York City’s East Village. The loft space is ultra cozy, with exposed brick walls, rustic farm tables and dim lighting. We styled gold vintage candlesticks down the center of the farm tables where the guests dined on Northern Italian delicacies. We used fresh flowers in tones of fuchsia, peach and light pink adding subtle pops of color all through the space.

Each place setting had a personalized placemat with the main stars: Wifey & Hubby. We sourced pink champagne flutes for every setting and customized menus with a gold foil print.

We hit the cake up with some of the fresh flowers and fell in love. The metallic gold brush strokes, bright pops of pink and peach. The room was now complete and full of love.

After our bride and groom, Dara and Michael, spent time strolling around the East Village on the beautiful cobblestone streets they met their family at the venue for the big reveal. Eyes welled up with joy, kisses were flowing and the night went off without a hitch. Parties like this, make us extra thankful for the business that we run. It’s pure joy to bring such happiness to people as sweet as Dara and Michael.

From The Bride…I dreamt of having a romantic, intimate wedding, and that was exactly how the day played out. Hair and Makeup at the Bowery, Photos with my family at Gemma (where Michael and I had our first date!), A stroll with my love through the east village…and the perfect party at Il Buco. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to get married.

Fashion Editor’s Fabulous Same-Sex Brooklyn Wedding with a Custom Christian Siriano Gown

Four words: Custom Christian Siriano gown. I mean, based on that fact alone we’d say Nicolette Mason of Marie Claire had the most amazing wedding ever. The best part? The beauty doesn’t end there. We’re talking about the chicest celebration Brooklyn has ever seen. From the sweet pup, to Laura Hooper Calligraphy accents, to skyline kisses, Clean Plate Pictures captured it all for us to pin. See it all in The Vault!

From Clean Plate PicturesWhen Nicolette approached me to photograph her wedding at the Wythe Hotel I was over the moon. I met Nicolette years ago and from following her fashion blog I knew she has an amazing sense of style and that her and Ali’s special day was not only going to be filled with love and laughter, but also immaculately detailed. And they did not disappoint! From the adorable ring boxes stamped with the couple’s initials and customized temporary tattoos, to the personalized wood carved place settings, there were so many fun details to capture! Even their sweet little pug, Frankie, was dressed up for the occasion. The touching ceremony was followed by an adorable first dance and raucous hora, after which I was able to get some magical sunset portraits in front of the New York skyline. I especially loved photographing Nicolette twirling in her stunning custom Christian Siriano dress. Then, it was back down stairs for heartfelt speeches, delicious cake and more dancing! It was truly a perfect day for such a beautiful couple. Wishing them so much love and happiness for many many years!

From the Bride, Nicolette MasonWhat Ali and I envisioned was really, really close to what we ended up sharing with our friends and family. We wanted an intimate ceremony and reception with lots of bespoke details that made everything from start to finish extra special and beautiful. We prioritized FUN over everything, and spent a lot of time with our DJ, Amber Valentine, and our band, Postmodern Jukebox, on creating an atmosphere that had everyone dancing from start to finish. While we also looked at a lot of venues, we kept coming back to the Wythe Hotel. It’s been a place that we’ve visited countless times together, and even celebrated our engagement with friends at their rooftop bar, The Ides, on the day we got engaged. The space is so beautiful and reflected our home in Brooklyn, with an industrial-chic vibe, exposed brick, and flashes of brass and gold. We loved the high ceilings of their ballroom, and the open feel of their courtyard. We worked with a lighting designer to bring in additional string lights to make the entire room sparkle. We also used one of their penthouse lofts, on the 8th floor, for getting ready, taking portraits, and signing our Ketubah (Jewish marriage license). The room is beautiful, and I loved that we could look onto the New York City skyline while prepping for our wedding. The entire thing felt so true to us and like it was such a reflection of our relationship and the marriage we wanted to create together!

We knew from the day that we got engaged that we wanted to have a spring wedding, and that had a huge role in influencing the color palette and overall aesthetic – especially since most of our favorite flowers are only in season during the spring and summer! We went with a theme of blush pink, sage green, champagne and gold – and that was infused in all the details, from the stemware to our paper suit designed by Ladyfingers Letterpress to what we wore. Ali’s suit was custom made by Bindle & Keep and had a pink lining, and she wore a pink Ferragamo tie that my dad gave her as a gift. I wore a blush pink custom gown designed by Christian Siriano, which had rose gold appliqué and crystals throughout, and a custom clutch given to me by Edie Parker, which was inscribed with “N&A” in champagne and gold lucite. Virtually every detail came back to our original color palette and inspiration – even the tassel background we DIYed for our photobooth.

Virtually everything felt customized and special – and I loved that! I have a design background and work as an editor in fashion now, so it was really a labor of love to spearhead those elements of the wedding (while Ali handled more of the logistical, organizational details – she’s the queen of spreadsheets).

We were really, really excited to work on our favors – they were all personalized and felt really special. I’m sort of obsessed with place settings, and I wanted to create something really bespoke for everyone. I found Laura Hooper Calligraphy and she makes these beautiful laser cut wood nameplates; each place setting had its own nameplate which was painted gold, and it was a nice detail which everyone could take home. Then we also worked with Hartland Brooklyn, a local letterpress and design studio, to create a sheet of tattoos that were special to us; after all, we’re two Brooklyn queers with a handful of ink of our own, and it felt like a fun thing to do – so they designed a temporary tattoo pack with illustrations of our pug Frankie, tuxedo cat Lily, and pretty florals that were in our arrangements. They were so cute and by the end of the night there were a lot of pug and peony neck tattoos on our friends. Finally, we also made custom rose soy-based candles and matchboxes for everyone to take home; our florals had an amazing fragrance that filled the space, and I loved the thought of people being able to take that scent with them – especially for family who traveled far to join us at our wedding! It was definitely one of my favorite details to conceptualize!

But really – we thought about nearly every detail. We had Laura Hooper Calligraphy create a custom cake topper, as well, and we had cocktail napkins made. We even made a small welcome bag for our family that came in from out of town, again with a tote designed by Laura Hooper Calligraphy, and filled it with little New York items – a Zagat guide (an essential for visitors, obviously), Grady’s Cold Brew Coffee, Mast Brothers Chocolate… It was so fun to think of things like that.

Being a same-sex couple, I think the most special feeling was having so much love, support, and happiness around us – and that is not something I take for granted. The love in the room was palpable, without compromise, and heartwarming. It was really incredible to feel that from all our friends and family – grandparents included!

We worked with our favorite floral studio in our neighborhood, Sprout Home , to create our dream florals. They did the most amazing job – and Kalena, one of their designers, has got to be one of the sweetest and most patient people I’ve ever met. We wanted to feature peonies, garden roses, and succulents (an ode to my mother’s garden in California), and have really full, gorgeous arrangements fill the space. We had three arrangements on each rectangular table – one large, taller arrangement and two smaller arrangements. They were so beautiful and I wished we could have made them last an eternity. Sprout Home also designed the florals to cover our Chuppah – which then made their way onto mine and Ali’s sweetheart table. I absolutely loved my bouquet, too! We wrapped it in this beautiful blush pink, velvet ribbon which looked so gorgeous. Can you tell the flowers were one of my favorite parts?

Christian Siriano is one of my closest friends, so there was no question that once Ali and I were engaged, he would be the one working on my wedding dress. I came into his studio with lots of inspiration and a general idea of what I wanted to do look like for our wedding, but I mostly entrusted Christian to put his talents to work and create something beautiful. It was definitely a privilege to work with a designer who already knows my sense of style and my personality – and he absolutely created my dream gown! The gown was layered in hand dyed blush pink tulle, and covered in rose gold roses and crystal appliqué. I had full, sheer sleeves so it looked like the crystals and roses were sitting right on my skin – it was so much fun to wear that I refused to take it off – even at our after party when we went bowling across the street at Brooklyn Bowl.

Our cake was made by The Wythe in-house pastry chef, and it was an earl-grey saffron cake with vanilla buttercream. I have celiac’s disease, so unfortunately I couldn’t eat it, but I’m told that it was the best wedding cake ever. My family is Persian and English, so I loved the idea of mixing flavors from both cultures into the cake. We also had an assortment of fruit, flourless cake, petit fours – but the cake was so beautiful, and we covered it with flowers from Sprout (a cascading mix of garden roses and peonies), and topped it with a laser-cut wood topper created by Laura Hooper Calligraphy. I’m pretty sure I’m going to request a special gluten-free version of the cake to celebrate our anniversary!! Overall, The Wythe in-house catering was incredible. We’ve been to and loved many of their sister restaurants, and definitely prioritized good food when finally selecting our venue (I mean, let’s be honest- wedding food is mostly mediocre at best), and I can confidently say the food at our wedding was incredible. We worked with their chefs to create special dishes that paid tribute to our heritage and cultured – a spring salad with smoked trout for Ali’s Russian, Jewish heritage, and lots of saffron, dill, and harissa to celebrate my middle eastern background.

This may seem really controversial, but…. LAY OFF PINTEREST! I know, I know – Pinterest can be an amazing resource for finding inspiration, DIY ideas, and creating a mood board to share with your vendors, but overall it just made me feel like there were all these extra, superfluous things that I needed to have or do that…. we really didn’t need at all. We tried to stay focused on things we actually really did need and want – great music, great food, and fun details to keep everyone entertained (our Photo Booth was a big winner), and create an event where everyone was happy and celebrating — and I really think we pulled it off!

It was really important to us to work with vendors who were either women or LGBT owned. The wedding industry is enormous but we wanted to work specifically with talent from our own community, who shared our values.

Our photographer, Erica Beckman of Clean Plate Pictures, was a friend-of-friends for many years who we have shared community with. She made us feel so comfortable and at ease, and really stayed on top of everything throughout the day of our wedding to make sure all our special moments were captured – and the photos themselves are stunning and so magical. Photography was definitely something we prioritized in our budget and I think it’s a really, really worthy expense. It’s true that the day goes by so quickly, and being able to trust a photographer to capture everything as its happening (much of which you won’t even realize happened until you’re looking at your photos later) is so special and priceless.

We also worked with a queer-owned letter press studio, Ladyfingers Letterpress, to create all of the papers for our wedding and day-of materials. They were a couple who shared so many of our pre-wedding experiences and anxieties, and actually formed their business after dealing with frustrations in planning their own wedding! I loved, LOVED working with them and they are SO talented.

Our DJ, Amber Valentine, is a longtime friend who also throws some of the best queer parties in NYC. She was able to customize the music and remix things to suit our party needs, she even incorporated some Persian music that my family requested!

Our day of planner, Jove Meyer Events, was also gay and helped us find a LGBT Rabbi to officiate, too! It may seem like a little thing, but after meeting with and speaking to tons of vendors who made us feel uncomfortable, who didn’t speak our language (“so which one of you is the bride?” Um, we both are!), we wanted to work with people who would go out of their way to make the entire wedding process feel like it was inclusive and about us, and that was invaluable. Plus, being able to support women and LGBT owned businesses added a bit of social consciousness to our wedding planning process!

What To Toss, What To Keep Post-Wedding

I’m not ashamed to admit I have a stack of boxes full of wedding items, from our table numbers to copies of our menus. While I do accept the fact that I’ll need to sort through these items eventually, I’m hesitant, I’m a sentimental hoarder. But what to keep and what to toss? I checked in with some other recent married SMP ladies and we’re sharing what we’re keeping forever and what we’re easily tossing aside!

From Birgit Hart FotografieMiri & Christian had the most stunning winter wedding I have ever seen. The couple from New York City chose Miri’s home town for their wedding: Seefeld in Austria. It couldn’t have been more romantic, everything covered in snow, horse carriages, an old barn in the woods…Miri wore a breathtaking gown by Marchesa and red lipstick. Christian a suit by Saint Laurent Paris. And the first look was during a snow blizzard on top of a hill!

Christian designed the wedding stationery and they put so much work in their individual invitations and place cards: They took tons of photo booth pictures holding signs with the name of each guest!

After the ceremony a whole bunch of horse carriages was waiting outside to bring the wedding party to the dinner location. A barn in the woods. An Austrian band played traditional music and then the couples favorite DJ from NYC got everyone on the dancefloor until morning hours. A perfect wedding!

From the Bride… Miri and I met eight years ago in Barcelona, lived in New York for the last several years and after our wedding then honeymoon in South Africa and some time off, we moved to London where we now reside. Traveling is a deep passion we have in common so when it came time to think of a location for our wedding we were torn. I grew up near the beach in Southern California which is a very beautiful part of the world but in the end we thought that a winter wedding near Miri’s home would be the most magical experience for our wedding and our guests.

Miri grew up very close to Seefeld, a down-to-earth town that is full of gracious people, delicious cuisine, excellent spas, incredible skiing and all in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, the Austrian Alps. We spend our holidays in this winter wonderland each year and decided it would be the best location if we were going to have a destination wedding. We wanted to share this special place with those we love most. Given that we had many people traveling from around the world we wanted to make sure that everything was as easy and enjoyable as possible. The time put in to organizing was satisfying when 120 guests (95% of invites) found their way to Seefeld from California, New York, Australia, Asia and all throughout Europe.

As I am a creative director in design and Miri is a creative strategist, planning such an event came second nature to us but not without the help of Miri’s family who live near Seefeld. Miri and I started with very articulate mood boards of what we wanted to create and then art directed and designed everything from the invites, the website and the decorations. It was a lot to juggle with everything else including our jobs and moving our lives from New York to London but with a lot of team effort and organization we made it through relatively unscathed.

We loved the idea of a formal black tie wedding within a cozy, wooden and warm environment. Our wedding was held in the Hotel Klosterbräu, a former 16th-century monastery. Our ceremony was spoken in both English and German as were our vows to one another, Miri spoke in English and I in German. Miri’s sister and my brother read excerpts from The Alchemist, a significant book in how we met. Miri wore the most beautiful Marchesa dress and I wore a Saint Laurent tux. The formal attire made the occasion feel even more magical as people were whisked away by sixteen horse drawn carriages from the ceremony that took place in a century-old hotel in the middle of town. Everyone drank from our customized schnapps bottles as they moved through the forest to where our reception was held in The Triendlsäge, a wonderfully preserved 150-year-old sawmill owned by family friends.

Miri’s step father is kind of like the unofficial mayor of the town and many people went out of their way to make our wedding day a wonderful experience. We love music (and dancing) and so he arranged for a local traditional Tirolean “orchestra” to play for us when our horse carriage arrived. We didn’t know that he had it planned and so when we arrived it felt like we had entered Narnia. There were log fires and Glühwein (hot mulled wine) while everyone socialized and enjoyed the music. Afterwards our guests moved into the sawmill and found their seats. The place setting photos were held by gold safari animals as Miri and I would later head to South Africa for our honeymoon on a two week safari. Each seat had a customized photo booth photo that Miri and I made. We spent six hours in the photobooth to create the custom invites and place settings. That was a real test :) Our cake topper was also customized for the occasion.

During speeches and dinner we had a traditional Tyrolean band play both classic Austrian songs and more contemporary pop staples. We had also flown in a friend from New York who is a DJ and who we had thrown parties with in Brooklyn. It was crucial to have consistently good music and a full dance floor for the party to go well into the morning. We wanted to end our special day dancing with all the people we love most in the world. The songs were back-to-back jams and we danced until 4 in the morning. It couldn’t have been more perfect way to end such a magical day.

We knew it was a success by the amount of people who kept telling us how much love they felt through the entire long weekend but especially on the day of our wedding. We both wish we could relive that day over and over.

Our photographer Birgit Hart delivered everything we had hoped for and more. She was hardly even noticed by guests but somehow she captured the most intimate moments of the day. We didn’t want traditionally posed photos but instead we desired them to be very candid and natural and therefore authentic. Birgit is an incredible photographer with an amazing eye as well as instinct. We also absolutely loved the fact that she shot all the daytime photos on film, something many wouldn’t dream of doing these days. She believes, as do we that film has more texture and soul to it than digital. That said, due to the low light of the evening she switched to digital and captured an immense amount of awesome moments on the dance floor for which we are eternally grateful. On top of all this she is lovely and kind and patient. We couldn’t of asked for more.

We’re so happy (and proud) that we had arranged for videographers to capture everything. We not only have a beautifully preserved film capturing the day but we also have hours of raw footage. In retrospect it was a very small price to pay for the time capsule that we have already watched a hundred times since receiving. Our videographers Jakob and Ben from Sequence Five in Vienna did the most incredible job and are such kind and patient souls. They have such good eyes and instinct for where people will be and are extremely quick on the draw. They then edited all the footage and chose the music based on our interests to create two edits (both highlight and a longer 20 minute version) that we are in love with. We couldn’t recommend them enough.

Glamorous New Year’s Eve Wedding at Rancho Bernardo Inn

I’ve always known that I’ve wanted a late spring wedding (in part because that’s when peonies are in season), but the more New Year’s Eve weddings I see, the more I want one. And, after looking at this gorgeous and glamorous day photographed by Honey Honey Photography, you will, too. From the Bride’s Pronovias gown and beaded bolero from Hayley Paige to the Gatsby-meets-organic vibe, this wedding was the perfect start to the new year and a new marriage! Fall in love in The Vault!

From The Bride…I first met Erik at a Superbowl party in college at Northern Arizona University over 10 years ago – he walked up to me, told me I was beautiful, then walked away. After that strange encounter (or suave, as Erik would say), we became good friends, often bumping into each other at events and both secretly having crushes on each other that would come to fruition much later in life. After college and both of us dating other people for several years, our paths crossed again in Phoenix, Arizona (where we both lived) after Erik sent me a “just checking in” message on Facebook. We were inseparable after our first date and were engaged less than a year later.

Our engagement was everything I could have hoped for. We went to my family cabin in Big Bear Lake, California to celebrate my birthday weekend with some of our closest friends. After everyone had arrived and cocktails were in hand, Erik got down on one knee on our back deck that wrapped around the house to propose in front of our friends. It was a very special weekend surrounded by some of the most special people we know, and gave us something to celebrate all weekend.

We began planning our wedding knowing we wanted to have a longer engagement, as well as give both of our respective siblings enough space for their weddings (which were also in 2015). After several discussions we both kept coming back to New Year’s Eve, and how it would be an amazing way to ring in a new year as husband and wife. Location was a relatively easy choice, my grandparents were not able to travel and a lot of Erik’s family is from the midwest, so a destination of San Diego, California (my hometown) seemed like the natural choice. Once we had location solidified it took us all of 2 seconds to contact Molly from Tres Chic Affairs to be our coordinator. Molly & I went to high school together and I knew she would help us see through our vision.

Our ceremony was at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church – a beautiful church that features traditional California mission style architecture with a lot of beautiful wood accents. A Catholic ceremony integrated with personalized touches (such as our priest reading love letters we had written to each other) felt extremely intimate and personal for us as well as our 190 guests.

Given the celebratory nature of our wedding date, we knew we wanted to have a NYE feel, while mixing in some of the natural beauty of our San Diego location. We envisioned Gatsby meets organic – with some glamour touches such as indoor market lighting and a black & white checkered dance floor. With a lot of florals being out of season, we looked to our amazing florist Bethany from Splendid Sentiments to make recommendations of how to keep the look glitzy without being over the top. Incorporating light blush tones with anemones and peonies, gold spray-painted succulents (a nod to our Phoenix, AZ home) with beautiful eucalyptus leaf garlands kept our florals dynamic without being too precious.

Our cocktail hour and reception at the Rancho Bernardo Inn rocked the house. We carried over the black, white, gold and organic elements to the ballroom, with a mix of striped runners, gold sequin table cloths, and a striped table cloth for the head table, in addition to eucalyptus trees on select tables. Dinner and drinks flowed as our parents and friends gave speeches, and our amazing DJ kept everyone on the dance floor well into the night. With it being the holiday, we made sure our reception went into 1am so that we could all ring in the new year together at midnight. We all filed outside to light sparklers and do a countdown, and it was such an amazing moment to be celebrating the new year with my husband, friends and family.

The best part of the entire day was knowing that all of our favorite people were gathered in one room to celebrate with us and hearing / seeing how much fun everyone had made all of the planning for 16 months worth it. We made sure to add in some elements that were truly “us”, such as ice cream sandwiches for our main dessert, to late night snack foods like mac n cheese, sliders and fries to keep people energized throughout the night. A photo booth and cigar bar added extra entertainment to our lengthy reception, and the night felt like it absolutely flew by!

I cannot say enough about Molly and her team, she was a complete gem to work with through our entire wedding planning process. Her vendor recommendations were always spot on, including our insanely talented photographer Emma who was able to capture the nature of our day so beautifully.

From The Bride…Sitting here as I try to describe the magic of our wedding day, I realize that there aren’t words to really truly describe the love, the happiness, energy and joy that we experienced on our big day. My best attempt at it simply comes down to reveling in how all the LOVE around us was absolutely palpable. The love we felt for each other, the love that was exuding from our friends and family, it truly was the most incredible day. As we prepared to start off our wedding weekend, someone told me our wedding day will be a day where we can truly look around and know that every single person there is happy for us, loves us and supports us, and is there to celebrate the fact that we found each other. From family to friends, old and new, that weekend we were the most loved people in the world and the magic was undeniable.

Joe and I always knew we wanted an intimate wedding, but we wanted to make sure we did it right. We wanted our day to represent us, and while we always tried never to lose sight of the fact that this is OUR day, as advised and reminded us by our loved ones (this is where I need to take a moment to thank all of our brave comrades who had planned their weddings before us for their words of wisdom and advice), we quickly realized that wedding planning is no joke.

We planned for a little over a year, which initially seemed like plenty of time, but that time flew by! There was lots of pouring over details, and I won’t lie – there were disagreements, there were stressed out breakdowns (solely on my end, thanks husband for patiently and gently snapping me out of it when I would subtly veer into Bridezilla territory). But at the risk of sounding dramatic, the planning process really was a testament to how good of a teammate we were to each other. We budgeted, problem solved, Joe learned and mastered the art of feigning excitement at every little thing (“oh I LOVE the dark stained wood!”, “that leaf is SO green! Awesome!”), we daydreamed, planned, laughed, bonded, and planned some more. Looking back, there is nothing we would want to do differently in the year and a half we spent to build our dream day. And a dream day it was.

The overall aesthetic and feel of our day really became a tangible concept when we found Apple Creek Ranch. The main house, the deck overlooking fields of greens, the barn and nature all packaged into one beautiful ranch, we were sold. We wanted our wedding to feel like a big outdoor dinner party with closest friends and family, and this environment completely lent itself to that level of intimacy. When it came to colors, there wasn’t any question that we wanted to do neutrals, but we also knew we wanted a pop of color. Considering the outdoors-y feel of our venue, I thought it would be cool to have greenery and leaves be our accent color. Neutral cream, pale pink and white flowers accentuated by bright green gardenia leaves. My favorite flowers are peonies, but they are not in season in October, so naturally, my flower-knowledge-mind was blown when I learned about Juliette Garden Roses (how did I not know about these until now!). Those beauties are STUNNING, and paired with bright green leaves, it was exactly the color palette and floral goodness I was envisioning in my head. Shout out to Carla at S.R. Hogue & Co., who nailed our floral vision – thank you!

Speaking of the aesthetic, from very early on in the planning stages, photography was a very important component for Joe and me. These were going to be snapshots to capture every sparkling moment and joy of our day, and we wanted to make sure we had someone who can create a beautiful visual story for us, and we found that in the most amazing Jen Rodriguez. With all the open fields and greenery surrounding the ranch, the possibilities were endless, but the type of shots I wanted were a sort of structured look, a la Vanity Fair, mixed in with the whimsical oh-hey-look-at-us-roaming-the-field look of a Ralph Lauren shoot. I know this sounds like complete mumble jumble, but when I mentioned this to Jen, she didn’t even skip a beat and made our photography vision come to life. We couldn’t have asked for better photos that captured the love of the day as perfectly as Jen and Antoine did. So THANK YOU Jen and Antoine, we are so happy we found you guys. Also, a major THANK YOU to all of our amazing vendors, we truly feel like we hit the jackpot with everyone who was involved with our wedding and for that, we are grateful.

I can sit here for a few more hours re-living and describing every beautiful moment from our day, but this post would be WAY too long, so I’ll just describe one of my most favorite and unforgettable moments of the day. I want to believe that I was pretty calm on the day of our wedding leading up to the ceremony, and I’m pretty sure I was, but as that moment of walking down the aisle to finally see my Joe (we hadn’t seen each other since the night before – a major shout out to our incredibly nimble and stealth bridal party for making sure Joe and I didn’t lay eyes on each other the entire day prior to the ceremony!), I started getting a bit nervous and anxious. What if I fall down the stairs! What if my dad steps on my dress and I literally roll down the aisle to my groom?! What if I ugly cry the entire time?! But. I kid you not, all of that anxiety and worry subsided the moment I saw Joe at the end of the aisle smiling (and crying, awww) at me. All those things that my friends said about the moment you walk down the aisle towards your groom were TRUE. In that moment, it was just Joe and me, just us two. Nothing else mattered and everything was perfect as I was about to marry my best friend.

If any future bride has taken the time to read my write up as far down as this paragraph and is looking for any advice, I would say first of all, thanks for reading this far, and secondly, enjoy the ride and have fun! Planning can seem like a beast and for the most part, it is, but the anticipation for the big day and the fun decision making (especially the food and cake part), is such a big part of the fun and it really will go by fast. I say savor everything, and I’m not generalizing about boys, but mine particularly didn’t know anything about wedding planning when we started planning, and what helped was just simply communicating to him the specific things you need help on, and specific tasks he can take on. This empowered him to take ownership of certain elements of the wedding he wouldn’t necessarily have had strong opinions about, and it took the guessing game out of him trying to figure out what he’s supposed to do.

Wow, writing this just took me back to the day and I wish we could do it again! Just the other day, I overheard Joe tell one of his newly-engaged friends, “Dude just act SUPER enthusiastic about everything and say everything is awesome,” and it made me smile. Now my husband has become the sage married guy giving wedding planning advice to his newly minted engaged buddies. Oh how far we’ve come.

Classic Wedding Dresses that will Stand the Test of Time (And Wedding Photos)

No Bride buys her wedding dress thinking, “I hope this goes out of style in 50 years.” You want your wedding dress to look as beautiful 50 years from now in a photo album (or whatever technology the future has in store) as it does on the day of your wedding, coming down the aisle. The best way to ensure that? A classic, timeless wedding dress that will never go out of style.

Sleek, Modern Wedding Dresses that are Redefining Classic

As far as I’m concerned, 2016 is a time of anything goes when it comes to bridal fashion. And while we used to think of classic as a synonym for silk ballgowns or lace A-lines, these sleek, modern wedding dresses are starting to change that. With a simple silhouette and minimalistic finishes, it’s the beautiful Bride, not the dress, that really gets to shine on the big day!

How To Perfectly Crack an Egg in One Hand

We use a lot of eggs in our household. From omelettes to crepes to Sunday morning muffins, and everything in between. And while this might sound like a silly how-to (doesn’t everyone know how to crack an egg?), I bet you still get shells in your bowl, right? I’ve found this trick to be shell-free, super simple and makes me feel fancy in the kitchen.

How to Crack an Egg in One Hand

step-1With the egg in your dominant hand, place your thumb and middle finger on either side of the egg, with your index finger resting on the top. Having even pressure points help give you an even crack.

step-2Make sure that your ring finger and pinky finger are cupping the bottom portion of the egg.

step-3Crack with medium force on a flat surface. I find my counter works better than the side of the bowl I’m using!

step-4Pull apart your egg by separating your thumb, index and middle fingers from your ring and pinky fingers. Voila! You’ve got a perfectly cracked egg, done with one hand.

Moody + Romantic French Inspired Boudoir Session

Consider this pretty lil’ inspo the nudge you need to book a boudoir session ASAP. I mean, just look at these dreamy captures from Winsome and Wright! And since February is basically the month of lurve we happen to think that this would make the ultimate post V-day surprise for that special someone. Scroll the gallery for more and get ready to tap into your inner vixen via The Vault!

From Winsome and WrightIn designing and setting the scene for this moody, French inspired boudoir session it was important to me that you feel the bride is sure of herself, sophisticated and believes in understated beauty. Soft vintage waves and subtle makeup set the tone for the boudoir session. For Love & Lemons has some of the most beautiful, intricately designed lingerie, and it perfectly complimented the soft lines and skin of our bride. For our second boudoir look, a sheath dress by Karen Willis Holmes combined with a Naturae Design gold crown made for such an ethereal, moody look that completely shows almost always less is more! Transitioning to the bridal look, I wanted her look to be cohesive with the moodiness and romance of the morning. Karen Willis Holmes strapless gown paired with a simple, understated updo and a smokey brown eye was the perfect compliment. We chose a soft palate of organic purple, creams + whites for florals with the freeness and flow that Park Floral Design does so beautifully. Love letters and an invitation suite inked with warm brown stunningly penned by Michaela McBride Calligraphy was the perfect addition to our day.

I firmly believe that every woman should consider having her boudoir photos taken before she gets married or the morning of her wedding – it is such a beautiful gift to give not only to your husband but also yourself. Boudoir is such a beautiful way to look back and remember the excitement + anticipation of your wedding day and your future together. Working with all of the talents on this project was so amazing!! Firmly believe in working with others who love people and love what they do. I was completely blown away with everyone in this collaboration.

A Modern Family Farm House Tour

Imagine if a good ol’ Texas farm house and cool modern space had a love child, it would look a little something like this gorgeous home of designer Brandi Hines. It pairs modern white, warm wood accents and touches of family all around. But the star of this show is most certainly the master bathroom. Prepare to drool over that beautiful shower with even more imagery from Anne Marie in the VAULT.

From Brandi… I would say I was influenced by the land for overall style of the home. Designing a home around the space you are given is always a priority. I would say the who was my 3 year old son who was 2 at the time was a big factor in the way it was designed and decorated.

We love the family room. It’s so versatile. We have great storage under the TV where we store toys and books and puzzles. So this room gets a lot of play time. We also have the built in bench with table where we enjoy breakfast with cartoons. There is also the comfy couch surrounded by family photos and great memories.

It was important to have a family home, a space that felt cozy and like a home you could be comfortable in and still keep the modern elements I drawn towards. It was all about blending a traditional farmhouse feel with modern elements.

We love this house and wouldn’t change a thing. We live in this house, every room is truly lived it And loved! But if I was going to pick one room I was especially happy with it would be Parker’s bathroom. I love the colors and the energy.

I did get a little DIY project from a pallet left over from the locker unit in Parker bathroom. It was just the perfect size for a little day bed so I added 4 red casters and found the perfect foam top for it at a local craft store. It’s pretty perfect.

Berry Hued Wedding Inspiration at Ebell Club of Long Beach

Absolute berry hued perfection. That’s what I’m labeling this pretty lil’ inspo from Sposto Photography. A layering of saturated goodness paired with Borrowed Blu lovelies, this is one inspiration that you’re going to want to pin PRONTO! The only question is, why wait? Get scrollin’ and start in on the stylish gallery via The Vault!

From Sposto PhotographyWhen the Ebell reached out to us to photograph an editorial in their newly redesigned space, we all knew this shoot was an opportunity to feature elements that fit into the cooler months of the year. We see a lot of gold and blush at weddings and the team and I felt that it was time to feature silvers and cooler tones to bring out the elegance of metalics. Featuring tarnished silver elements, the warmth of the fruits, nuts, and florals, balanced the color pallet beautifully. The Maggie Sottero gown that was photographed featured a bolero type shoulder detail that echoed the timeless elegance of the classic Ebell club of Long Beach. Luminous lines created a linen invitation suite that was craftily styled with hand dyed silk ribbon from Tono & Co. The table scape featured whimsical calligraphy upon silver goblets used as name cards while scrolled menus sat at each place setting. Brent and Julia, a real long beach couple, fell in love all over again imagining that their wedding could be just like this. Their effortless love allowed us to really see how this space could be used.

From Green Apple Event Co.The Ebell Club is historic to the city of Long Beach and was built in the 1920’s. The original architecture was reimagined early this year by Alan Dunn. The new space is now highlighted by; patterned tiles, glamorous chandeliers, and a cozy library. The main ballroom is sun drenched with natural light, making it every photographers dream.
Our inspiration for this editorial shoot was to compliment the bright space with a romantic, rich and timeless pallet with accents of dark berries and antique silvers. The “Gothic Garden” back drop by Drop it Modern was the perfect compliment to the bright florals by Lavender’s Flowers and moody table scape designed by Green Apple Event Company.

From Lavenders Flowers… This editorial shoot was a special coming together of some exceptionally likeminded talents. Meghan of Greenapple Events asked me to join the team for floral and design. After she told me Shauntelle of Sposto Photography was shooting, I was all in. For the table top, Meghan did a great job picking moody neutral colors and antique silver to accent a dark wooden table. It was at this point that I knew I needed to bring on the color.

The first step in my creative process is to get to know the environment I’ll be designing in. I knew there would be lots of natural light at the Ebell and that Shauntelle shoots in film so I was not shy in using bold and deep color tones. Film has a way of representing color perfectly.

My second step in my creative process is to visit the flower market. I work with seasonal blooms and buy from local growers when available. Since it was mid fall, the floral available was the most gorgeous warm tones of red, orange, & peach. Ponies decided to make an appearance at the market, I was so excited to use them. I found an amazing bunch of viburnum leaves transitioning from golden yellow to burnt orange. Lots of branching berries available, and pretty evergreen foliage. Just like that, my palette was picked for me. I added a few peachy garden roses from my garden and that was it!

Elegant and Ethereal Bridal Session

I’m kind of at a loss for words that will do this bridal session justice. I’m pretty sure it’s because every little detail in this simple, yet elegant shoot is could truly stand on their own. The gown from Gossamer is just breathtaking. The antique ring from Trumpet & Horn? Absolutely perfect. And the lovely hair pieces from Liv Hart are truly works of art. With Laura Gordon Photography behind the lens, we end up with a gallery of images almost too good to be true.

From Liv HartI love collaborating with such creative and talented people that also love creating memorable and enchanting moments. This season we created an enchanting shoot with such an amazing group of artists on an beautiful rainy day at Albemarle Estate in Charlottesville, VA. There is something so poetic and beautiful about a rainy day.

This season I was also very inspired by my own upcoming wedding next June. I feel so excited about creating the accessories I will wear for my wedding and am loving designing while I am a bride myself!

My hope for every collection is to design accessories that are artfully handcrafted, enchanting, and memorable for our brides.

I am a designer, dreamer, stylist, and fashion lover. I love accessories that define a moment. I love creativity, quality in details, and a uniqueness that keeps you looking at each design for a while. There is nothing better, to me, than getting lost for a moment in a beautiful expression of art. I hope that each of my designs provides this moment.

Classic Italian Villa Wedding

If you’re looking for a little Italian escape today (I mean, why not?!) then you’re in luck because we’ve got it. Martina and Giovanni planned the perfect party complete with sweet details a la Margherita Orlandi. A million thanks to Marta Guenzi Photographer for delivering destination daydreams today for this classic Villa affair is just beyond. Find your favorite moment to share via The Vault!

Villa

From Margherita Orlandi Martina and Giovanni got married during a sunny and warm day of June in the countryside around Lake Como, in Northern Italy. They chose a very special location where to celebrate their wedding reception, Villa Sommi Picenardi. This was the place where they met the very first time on the occasion of a friend’s wedding. So when they decided to become husband and wife, they asked me to start with the planning of the day visiting that particular location.

Villa Sommi Picenardi is an Eighteenth Century country house well known for its amazing english garden in the front side of the building, with rare worldwide plants, and most of all for its delicious italian “secret garden”, in the back yard, with fountains and statues and a staircase characterized by mosaics of Roman inspiration. Here overlooks the rustic hall where we decided to set the dinner, among the brick columns and under the oak-beamed ceiling.

The concept of Martina and Giovanni’s wedding was on the base of elegance and candor, so the main color they chose was white white combined with the most delicate hues of ivory and blush with small hints of green. Following this idea, Martina, that works in the industry of fashion, chose a lace and tulle big dress by the Italian designer Antonio Riva. After seeing the gown, Maurizio Buzzi, the flower designer, created the delicate bouquet made by white and blush peonies.

For the dining room the bride asked me to let my imagination run wild and to create something chic and refined. So I imagined a stylish atmosphere of lightness and freshness, pastel hues and luminous colors. My aim was to create an elegant setting in contrast with the rustic building where the event took place. With the help of the flower designer, I imagined a triumph of English roses (Martina’s favorite flowers), peonies and freesias combined with mirrors and antique silver candlesticks. For the napkins bows I used a satin blush ribbon with a lisianthus flower laid in the middle. Then I asked a calligrapher to write down the names of the guests on the escort cards.

All this scenery was made even more magical by the elegance of the couple and their lovely smiles of happiness for their marriage with each other. The talented photographer Marta Guenzi was so able to capture all these unique emotions with her romantic photography, making the memory absolutely perfect!
