Living The Dream With A Hawaiian Beach Elopement

Originally from Australia, connected in Bali and then said “I do” in Hawaii…these two are quite tapped into the best destinations of the world if I do say so myself. But with these pics by Wendy Laurel, it’s safe to say they picked the best spot for their intimate elopement. Surrounded by colors straight out of a watercolor painting, they became husband and wife and these photos are giving my Monday meaning. See all the beauty in our Vault here!

From Wendy Laurel… These two are both from Australia but met in Bali and married in Hawaii. They choose a simple beach elopement with just a few family members and their young daughter to witness their wedding. Elopements are wonderful because they always end up being so intimate and emotional. Just the couple, their love, their family alone on a deserted beach with the sun shining and the wind blowing is such a romantic vision. The bright and happy florals worked so well on the beach and the groom’s maile leaf lei brought the aloha spirit to the day.

A Courthouse Elopement That’s Crazy Stylish

Whether you’re sharing your vows in front of 500 guests or chose to elope with only your dearest, every bride needs a bouquet that makes a statement. *Enter* The Hidden Garden who whipped up this floral beauty for the occasion. Christine Doneé came along to photograph the courthouse “I do” and we think you’ll wholeheartedly love.

From Christine DoneeOne of the reasons I love photographing elopements so much is because it really exemplifies what a wedding is all about: the love of two people and their decision to commit to each other for the rest of their lives. It’s an incredibly romantic, and often times intimate way to start your journey together, and really reminds us what is most important.

Mollie and Allen’s celebration almost didn’t happen that day because Mollie had taken a tumble down some stairs the morning of, but they decided to keep everything as planned, noting that she could get some much needed r&r on their honeymoon the following week. Even though the day might not have started out on the right foot, it ended with joyous smiles, two people very much in love and glasses full of champagne with friends.

Inspired by weddings seen on Style Me Pretty, Mollie planned a stylish, yet relaxed, elopement at the beautiful courthouse in Beverly Hills. She opted for a knee-length lace dress, while Allen chose a tailored blue suit from Zara. The Hidden Garden team created the bouquet and boutonniere out of the most beautiful peonies and roses, and their friends surprised them with a bottle of champagne after the vows were said.

The Secret to Pulling Off an Effortless Baby Shower with Chinet

Throwing a fun and glamorous baby shower doesn’t have to entail gobs of hard work. In fact, it can be down right effortless with a few easy tips. One of our entertaining secrets? That would be the pretty world of the Chinet® brand. With the help of Chinet® Cut Crystal® line of coordinating products, we threw a tropical, glamorous Baby Shower and we’re dishing out all the tips to pulling off this adorable party.

[iframe https://player.vimeo.com/video/304413078 600 338]

The Perfect Summer Theme

Our starting point for this gorgeous shindig was a summery, tropical vibe mixed with moments of glamour and sparkle. But the best part about this shower is it works whether you’re expecting a baby boy or a baby girl. We incorporated both pink and blue with this gender-neutral idea in mind and added a sequined tablecloth in deep shimmery blue for a big dose of glam.

Perfectly Coordinated Details

And can we talk about that dessert table backdrop? It’s removable wallpaper if you can believe it and it makes such a statement. It boasts lots of impact with minimal effort. Much like the premium coordinating tableware from Chinet® Cut Crystal® line that we infused into our chic tablescape. Using pretty coordinating pieces that are so easy to cleanup leaves time for more important things like showering your guest of honor and mingling with loved ones.

Crave-able Treats

For the food, we opted for crave-able treats. Think  lots of sweet and salty combos (ahem chocolate covered potato chips we’re looking at you). And to sip on we dreamed up watermelon lemonade for the mama, and spiked it with champagne at 1 part lemonade to one part champagne for the guests. The final touch was serving it up in Chinet® Cut Crystal® stemless wineglasses.  It’s an instant crowd pleaser, trust us.

The Cutest Shower Activity

We love the idea of making onesies for the mama-to-be as a shower activity, but the standard doodling-with-fabric-markers version usually doesn’t produce the cutest onesies. We wanted to make onesies that would actually get used, so we created watercolor templates. We have an easy DIY for those complete with free printables coming up next!

Chinet® Cut Crystal® products offer a stylish and perfectly coordinated way to serve up your shower fare. From their elegant stemless wineglasses to cutlery and all the stylish plates in-between, you can check insanely good-looking disposables off your party to-do list with the help of the Chinet® brand.

Coffee + Cherry Blossoms + Puppies?! The Most Romantic New York City Engagement Session Ever!

If I were to plan out my perfect day it would look a lot like this lovely engagement session from Matoli Keely Photography. From the cutest stroll in Central Park, to blossom covered kisses, to a casual coffee run with a pup in tow? It’s enough to daydream over. See it all in The Vault!

From The Bride To Be…I met my fiancé Josh while studying graphic design at Arizona State University. I kept seeing this cute boy pop up around campus and decided to ask if he would share his portfolio with me. Next thing I know, we are on a date over coffee and I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for him! Since then we have moved to New York City, became designers, got an adorable French bulldog, and travelled any chance we get.

Josh bought me tickets to Paris for Christmas last year and proposed in the gardens of Versailles. I asked a stranger to take our picture and when I turned around he was getting on one knee with a ring! I was so surprised, and so happy to finally say “yes”.

For our engagement photos I knew I wanted to shoot in New York. I thought it would be the perfect way to commemorate all the adventures we have had here. Our first apartment was close to Central Park, so that was our first choice. I found a tulle dress from one of my favorite brands, Needle & Thread, that was romantic and a little glam! As transplant New Yorkers we also love our fair share of rooftops, so we used the rooftop at Josh’s work for our second location. We are so happy with how it turned out!

10 Pretty Things We Love About Little Hill Floral Designs

Today we get the pleasure of meeting Jenni, an absolute burst of delightful dynamite and owner of Little Hill Floral Designs. She started Little Hill when she was pregnant with her first babe (talk about girl power!) and has been creating beauty ever since. But there’s much more to learn – we’re talking red lips, inspiration, and key points to keep in mind when looking for the right floral designer for your big day!

1. How did you get into floral design?

I started out in the floral industry in 1999, when I was just 17 years old. I worked with two incredible bosses, a wedding florist and an interior design student. Right away, I was taken under their wing into the world of design, joy, and creativity… and just like that, I was hooked! For six years I managed, in my opinion, the cutest floral shop I’ve ever seen. After gaining some invaluable knowledge about the industry, I moved on to plan and manage 100+ weddings per year at one of Orange County’s most beautiful, busiest events studio. In 2012, my husband and I found out we were expecting our first child; we were filled with joy and I was filled with bravery. The kind of bravery that makes you want to open up your own business, while pregnant, because owning a business would be much easier. That was silly of me to think, or was it pregnancy brain?

During that first year of starting my own business and my pregnancy, I became lead designer for one of the industry’s most prestigious floral shops. Being lead designer for this floral shop gave me the knowledge and push (pun intended!) to welcome my second baby: Little Hill Floral Designs. With the help of my wonderful staff, we plan and design multiple weddings a year, and no design leaves my shop without my personal touch. I am passionate and truly love what I do… what’s that saying? “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life again.” Although, I think the job chose me.

2. What’s your personal motto, or a phrase that inspires you creatively?

I have two: the first is “A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are made for…” I’m not even a boating person, I just feel that this is very beautiful and relatable. And my favorite to say around the shop: “Teamwork makes the dreamwork!” It really does take a team of people to perfect a wedding. Everyone has their special talents and contributes something different to the element of design, so when we all put our talents together we are able to create something amazing.

3. Can you describe your aesthetic in three words?

Organic, sincere and romantic :)

4. What are three things you can’t live without?

Red lipstick (it’s my trademark), a design knife (it gets the job done!), and my family (their love and support).

5. Where do you find inspiration?

Aside from obvious answers like nature and keeping current on fashion trends, I find my inspiration from getting to know my clients. More than just their likes or dislikes of flowers, but their overall style; this allows my brain to create and know it is the right design for them. For myself personally, I will build off anything with a splash of blue, any tone, any style, I love blues (just not blue flowers)!

6. What’s your favorite social media platform?

At the moment I would have to say my favorite is Instagram. So much of what we do is visual, so I feel it is a great platform to show our style and work.

7. What is a floral design detail that often gets overlooked, that you wish got more attention in the planning process?

Pinspotting florals! I know it is more a part of the planning process, and not floral design, but it really can make a huge difference in the overall look and feel of the room.

8. What do you think is the most important question a client can ask, when deciding who to hire for their floral designer?

I wouldn’t say a question, but a feeling of trust. We are creative people as floral designers. Some of my best work has been when a client gives me a vision and allows me to create it. I think it is most important to feel that your florist gets your vision and that you can trust them to create it.

9. What’s been your proudest professional accomplishment as a floral designer?

Ceiling treatments! But really, I feel proud every time I get to see a couples’ vision come to life.

10. When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

Play legos with my daughter, cook and karaoke!

Prepare to Be Obsessed with Tone It Up Co-Founder Karena’s E-Sesh

Katrina and Karena, the beauty, brains, brawn and best friends behind Tone It Up have given us major #FitnessGoals since they launched their fitness empire. And now, Karena and fiancé Bobby’s engagement session (captured by one of our favorites, Jana Williams) and love story, is giving us major #RelationshipGoals. Head to The Vault to see why.

Tell us about the proposal.

B: Karena knew that an engagement was coming, but I still wanted to make sure she was completely surprised.  The girls had their annual retreat approaching, in California, with 400 other Tone it Up girls.  My friend Dave was in town a few months prior and the idea came up on a walk.  I actually think the overly used phrase “epic” may have been said.  Whether or not it was “epic,” I couldn’t tell you.  I was too busy being nervous and watching my armpits.

K:  We had been talking about getting engaged for about a year, so I knew it was coming.  I’m a tough one to surprise and Bobby definitely caught me off guard!  We were hosting our annual Tone It Up Retreat in Newport Beach with 400 of our Tone It Up community members (all women!) when Bobby got on stage in front of everyone and got down on one knee.

How did you know when you had found the one?

B: It is everything.  The friendship, the laughter, the belief in each other, the passion to keep learning, and even how we handle adversity together.

K: I don’t think it was just one moment when I was like ‘WOW….I found the one!’.  It was a combination of different moments that led up to it. From the start Bobby has always been very thoughtful in everything he does.  For example, I had mentioned to him that I never went to prom, so for our fist Valentine’s Day together he took me!  You can see the story here. I literally fell to the ground and was weak in the knees!

Tell us about your first date.

B: Our first date was to go see an interactive art/music installation by the band ‘The xx’, at the Sonos Studio.  We anticipated the exhibit for a couple weeks and finally the day was here.  As we approached the Sonos Lab, we quickly realized that we were a week too late.  However, there was a nice wine bar up the street and that eased our disappointment :)

K: Since we were neighbors, a lot of our first dates were spent at home hanging out having dinner and talking late in to the night or watching a movie.  Once we realized that we were more than just ‘friendly neighbors’, we decided to go on an official date!  We had planned to go to an art and music interactive event featuring the XX at Sonos Studio in Hollywood.  We were all hyped up on going and once we got there unfortunately it was closed. On the fly, we ended up having dinner down the street at Fig & Olive, which ended up being amazing!

Karena, What was your vision for your wedding?

K: When we started dating we took our first vacation together to Kauai.  It was on that trip that we sat on the beach looking at Hanalei Bay and said, ‘If this all works out…we should get married here.’  It was a day dream at that time, but fast forward 3 and a half years and it’s that same beach where we will be saying our upcoming vows!

Bobby, how have you been involved in the wedding planning process?

B: We both talked about our overall wedding vision, but Karena has been working out most of the details.  I’m on the email chains as well, but I’m mostly lurking without hitting reply.  Thank you, Karena!

What were your biggest priorities for the wedding?

B: The location for sure.  Kauai is a special place for us as a couple and we have been excited to share the island with our family.  We also wanted the wedding to feel relaxed and focus on the beauty of the location.  Our decor is minimal and uses white orchids to add to the beauty, but not steal attention from the beautiful view of Hanalei Bay.

K: Our #1 priority for the wedding was to make it feel like a big friends and family vacation. The Hawaiian Islands have always held a special place in my heart and I’ve always wanted to bring my family there.  This is the perfect reason!

How will the wedding be a reflection of you as a couple?

B: Nature, simplicity and music.  A great view, no stress and some good tunes.  Oh yeah, and some cocktails.  As McConaughey would say, “Alright, alright, alright.”

K: We wanted the wedding to be simple, modern and clean. For us, it’s important that the beauty of the island is the backdrop. To enhance that beauty we mixed in white orchids, hanging garlands from the trees and cylinders with submerged greenery.  The reception will go just past sunset so we have lanterns and tiki torches for lighting.

Bobby, What has been the biggest surprise of wedding planning?

B: Even with a no frills, destination wedding, there are a lot of extra details.  If we were having a local wedding at a venue, I could not emphasize the importance of hiring a wedding planner.  I’m definitely one for saving, but the professional opinion and organization of a wedding planner will always save, if not money, definitely stress.

Karena, obviously, you’re already in shape, but have you changed your diet/exercise since getting engaged? If so, how and why?

K: The wedding is just under a month away and feeling my best on my wedding day is a top priority. Life and work aren’t slowing down, so I have to give myself permission to take extra good care of my body – meaning, squeezing in an extra hot yoga class or even a lunch time run.  I also started following the 4 Week Wedding Program from the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan.  Each meal is laid out, super easy. It makes it very simple to fuel my body with the right foods so I can be confident I’ll feel amazing in my dress.

Any advice for the newly engaged lady looking to Tone It Up?

K: Katrina and I put together the perfect guide for any #TIUbride! The Tone It Up Wedding Program has all the tips you need for getting ready for your wedding from planning, throwing a bridal shower, tips for the bridesmaids and how to make sure you’re glowing on the big day!

What are you most looking forward to on the big day?

B: I can’t wait to look into Karena’s eyes and say my vows.  Even right now, just saying that made me a bit emotional.

K: Marrying Bobby :)

What about newlywed life are you most looking forward to?

B: Most importantly the continuation of our journey and being grateful for all our time together.

K: I’m looking forward to continuing to build our life together!  There’s so much more to learn and explore and it’s comforting to know that you’ve found your ‘one’ to share it with.

Tell us about the honeymoon!

B: Since we are already on Hawaii, we aren’t leaving!  After the wedding we are flying to Maui and having the “active” portion of our trip.  From Maui, we are taking a boat to Lanai for the “Mai Tai” portion of the Honeymoon.  I can’t wait.

K: We wanted to continue the Hawaiian vibes after the wedding so we decided to do a little island hopping.  We’ll be on Kauai for a week for the wedding and then we’re headed to Maui and Lanai for the honeymoon.  We’re looking forward to a mix of adventure and relaxation!

Shades of Pink Transformed the Bride’s Childhood Home Into the Perfect Venue

If you’re lucky enough to live in the picturesque Edna Valley Hills in San Luis Obispo, deciding to have an at-home wedding is an easy decision. Working with Le Festin Events and Lori Boe Floral, this sweet Bride and Groom transformed her childhood home into the classic, romantic wedding of their dreams in shades of gold, pink and fuchsia. And, Mirelle Carmichael captured all the pretty for us in The Vault!

From The Bride…Ryan and I met our freshman year of school in the dorms of California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. Seven years later, Ryan asked me to marry him a few months before we moved to Portland, Oregon for Ryan’s medical schooling. Ryan and I are hopeless romantics and we wanted to have wedding that reflected that. The gold, pink, and fuchsia decor set the tone for our classic, romantic theme. Our wedding was special to us because it took place at my childhood home in the Edna Valley Hills in San Luis Obispo, where Ryan and I went the first night we met. Ryan and I loved watching our guests enjoying the wedding together in celebration of our love. The view from the house was breathtaking and the weather was perfect for dancing. It was a magical day for the both of us.

Your Linen Closet Will Never Look Better

Growing up I thought my Mom was weird with her love for all things linen; from her precious care of bedsheets to her search for the softest of towels, I just didn’t get it. That is until I moved on after college and came to appreciate linens that felt and smelled like pure bliss. So you better believe when it came time to register for our wedding, I made a special trip to feel the fabrics. The apple may have taken a bit longer to blossom, but it sure didn’t fall far from the tree.

Why You Need to Consider a Destination Wedding in Montenegro ASAP

If the small Balkan country of Montenegro isn’t on your radar yet, it will be the second you lay eyes on this gorgeous destination wedding from Thecablookfotolab. Julia and Konstantin’s big day may look like an inspiration session, thanks to Wedding Montenegro, but rest assured, it is a real wedding. And you can pin every pretty moment from it now in The Vault!

From ThecablookfotolabI loved working on Julia and Kostya’s wedding. Montenegro is an amazing country. I stayed with them 3 days: we were having fun, sunbathing, swimming in the pool, and taking pictures. All the wedding had this relaxed style and it was so good. I loved the villa where the ceremony took place: Villa Milocer, the view there on the sunset was just gorgeous. The ceremony itself was very touching and sincere.

Also one of my favourite things about this wedding is the bride’s dress. It was from BHLDN and on Julia’s body it was simply perfect as she has model’s parameters.

From the Bride and Groom…Proposal (His version): It was totally surprise for her. I invited her to dinner to the fashionable Shato De Ize, a restaurant on the cliff between Nice and Monte Carlo. She was wearing a blouse and shorts. I haven’t booked the table although I knew that the place is extremely popular. We were lucky as there was one free table. We ordered a set of seven dishes from the chef. I had a white paper bag with a “present” for her on our anniversary which was couple of days before. She thought that I would give her earrings or something like that. But when I knelt, she started to understand what was happening. And then I said: Honey, would you marry me? The answer was “yes” and people on the next table started to applause and ask questions. It was a best day in our lives.

Almost immediately we decided that we want to make a romantic wedding ceremony outside Russia. Our mind drew a picture of a green venue, where the surf of the sea can be heard, and the sun is surrounded by brightly colored sky. Moreover we wanted to join such an important day for us with the possibility to spend some longer than just weekend time with our closest friends and family. After going through wedding ceremony’s offerings in several countries, our attention was attracted by the magic of Montenegro. This country has become significant for us, considering the fact that we also spent there our first joint vacation. After choosing the country, I spent a lot of times reading different forums about weddings in Montenegro. This helped us choose the venue for wedding ceremony and banquet.

Choosing right agency and especially photographer I guess is 50% success of the wedding. The remaining 50% – your family and friends with whom you share this important day for you, and their mood.

The first one – the agency – is your eyes and hands, which helps you to realize all that you have in mind. Understanding each other without words is particularly important given the fact that you plan everything remotely from Moscow. Therefore it is very important to trust your wedding organizer.

Photographer – is a person from whom depend on how you will remember your day for years to come. For us it was very important that the photographer shared our views, tastes, she knew how to catch our mood, with whom you may feel easy and relaxed. Relationship with Dasha was almost at random, and we immediately fell in love with her photographs. Dasha lives in Italy and in her clear voice, we immediately felt something close, and her keen interest in photography and a great desire to move in this direction ultimately determined our choice. And we were right – we got not only great photos as a result, but also a wonderful friend at the wedding, which let us toast to the wedding table.

The venue determined the dream dress. It should be something very light, soft and romantic. Dozens of trips to the bridal salons with my friends were unsuccessful – I understand that all this is not mine. And then I decided to order a dress from the USA – the very thing in which I fell in love at the very beginning of their search. And when it flew towards me and I tried it on – I realized that this is it – my dream dress.

In morning of the wedding all the bridesmaids gathered in my room for breakfast. Girls pressed shirts, steamed dresses, we laughed a lot and were very positive. After all the gatherings we began the photo shoot – with laughing bridesmaids, impressive hugs with mum, brutal boys in suits…After the photo session we all went to the ceremony.

Under the sounds of Marry me – Train between rows of chairs with the guests she walks slowly, in stunning white dress for the meeting with her beloved…who stands in the arch, worrying and waiting for her…They exchanged rings and vows to each other…loud sounds of applause greeted the husband and the wife.

After the ceremony, there was a banquet at Adrovic terrace restaurant overlooking the peninsula of Sveti Stefan. Throughout the evening guests were dancing – young and old, saying toasts, clinking of glasses did not stop…And everyone was really happy!

On return to our villa we ran into a surprise – an after party, which our friends have prepared for us. They have prepared slips – a variety of tests for us. From physical exercises to the questions that we raised synchronously homemade signs, which answer the question this does “he” or “she.”

The greatest gift of fate – those wonderful people that surround you. Even if they are not always nearby physically, but their incredible support through thousands of kilometers gives wings and strength. Our wedding guests came from all over the world – Canada, the Netherlands, Latvia, Italy…and we were incredibly happy, knowing that all of them came to share with us this important day in our lives!

Do not forget that first and foremost it is YOUR day! And do not let anything or anyone to spoil it. Nerves and emotions will always be there – but you must immediately abstract away from it all. The night before wedding ceremony me and the groom took the car with an open roof, my bridesmaids put for us a bottle of champagne with glasses in jockey box…and we left. We enjoyed the bright starry sky, murmur of the sea…and each other. And that’s exactly what we needed after a long wedding preparation.

From Wedding MontenegroAn unforgettable day for a beautiful loving couple Julia and Konstantin, a day, when everything came together – the deepest feelings, tears of happiness and a whole sea of flowers!

The couple chose Montenegro as their destination wedding place for a reason – here, in the country of the high blue mountains and the endless sea, here each corner whispers about love!

Julia and Konstantin contacted our agency about half a year before their wedding date, that is why we had all the time needed to think through all the wedding details and make the special day truly magic. The newlyweds decided to choose Milocer park for their venue – this is the famous former residence of the kings, which is surrounded by pine trees and is situated right on the shore of the Adriatic sea. The wedding color theme Marsala perfectly toned with the parks greenery. The ceremony was held in the heart of the park in the shadow of the pine trees. The place where the newly-weds brought their vows to each other was decorated with beautiful columns with ancient vases winded round by ivy. The path to the vases was laid out with rose pedals in a tracery print. Julia looked just amazing in her light streaming dress walking light steps over the rose pedals towards her future happiness.

The ceremony was symbolic, but the atmosphere helped realizing the importance of the moment – the registrar, signs in the wedding certificate and the mutual vows of eternal love. And of course the magic sounds of the sea waves and the fascinating Montenegrin nature. The bridesmaids were all dressed in similar color dresses with garlands on their heads and the grooms friends were all in the same bow-ties. That gave a real charm to the wedding ceremony and the photo session. The dinner was to be not far away from the park, in one of the best restaurants of the Adriatic coast overlooking the magnificent island of Sveti Stefan. The tables were decorated with the marsala colors, wild pomegranates and grapes that helped adding a luxury accent to the whole evening. The photo zone was a hall of memories of Julia and Konstantin, because it was all covered up in photographs from their mutual trips around the world. One of the greatest surprises of the evening was the concert of a famous Montenegrin singer, a participant of the Eurovision song contest – Nina Zizic. There was a lot of dancing during the night, with the memorable first dance of the newly-weds, the couple changed into dancing costumes and expressed all their true love in that dance. Without any doubt the cake was a real unforgettable moment – vivid red color sweet masterpiece!

Julia and Konstantin are an incredible couple, positive loving, young and beautiful, looking straight in the same direction and holding hands firmly! Such a day will stay in their memory for always! And we are honored that we could help making that day perfect!

Saturday Morning Movie: Traditional Mexican Hacienda Wedding

Happy Saturday morning! No need to attack that to-do list just yet; it’s the weekend and you deserve a break (am I right or am I right!?). So pour a second cup of coffee and settle in for some good vibes with this wedding clip courtesy of Light Cannon Films. It has transatlantic love, a gorgeous gown and a sweet, emotional Mother of the Groom – what more could you ask for?

From Light Cannon Films… When Ana called us over a year before her wedding and asked us to be a part of her big day in Mexico City, it seemed like a dream. But it didn’t get any more real as the day approached; and the actual wedding was the most surreal part. Not only did we have the thrill of seeing another culture’s celebration of love, we got a glimpse into the lives of two people who we will never forget.

Ana and Evan met in Paris while both studying abroad, but it wasn’t until their tour was almost over that they realized they didn’t want to be apart. So, Evan vowed to buy a ticket to visit Ana in Mexico City, a promise Ana didn’t yet understand the depth of. Evan held true to his word and immersed himself in Ana’s world, even learning Spanish and working for her father. When they faced obstacles that came from an international relationship, they overcame them. When they could have easily decided it would be simpler to part ways and live their separate lives, they held fast to each other and came out stronger.

It’s no wonder that their wedding day was the most epic beginning to the Perrys’ forever. From a riverboat rainstorm to a traditional church in the heart of Mexico City, to a breathtaking vintage hacienda for a reception that lasted all night, their rehearsal and wedding was a non-stop celebration of two becoming one.

See Where This Travel-Loving Couple Set Their Engagement

For the couple that’s traveled to 16 countries on 6 different continents, where in the world do you choose to shoot your engagement session? For these two, it was the beaches of Malibu with Ashley Sawtelle by their side. It’s not hard to see why the beautiful coastline caught their eye, and truth be told, we’re now itching to book a little Malibu trip for ourselves.

From Ashley SawtelleSarah and Tony met sophomore year, in the last row of finance class, at the University of Pennsylvania. It wasn’t until 10 years later during a trip to Mykonos that their friendship turned into something more. Since then they have traveled to 16 countries and 6 continents together. Currently, they live in Los Angeles, where we shot their engagement session on the beautiful coastline of Malibu. In October, they will have their wedding celebration in Wyoming at Brush Creek Ranch, coordinated by Table 6 Productions.

  • Speaking of marshmallows, throw a blow torch on those marshmallows after you put them on top to give them a little toast

#SMPWedding101 – Invitation Language Etiquette

While there’s no denying how fun it is to find your perfect invites, the proper wording can be a bit confusing. Proclaiming “I do” in a church or outside? How to introduce the reception that follows? Fret no longer friends, we have Mrs. John L. Strong here to help; with 85+ years of experience, they know a thing or two on the do’s and don’ts of the oh so important invitation language!

1. What is the appropriate wording for getting married in a place of worship vs elsewhere?

If you’re getting married in a place of worship, we use the term “honor of your presence” instead of “pleasure of your company”. It has nothing to do with the formality of the wedding itself (i.e. cocktail or black tie), strictly the venue.

2. Do you write honor (the American English way) or honour (the old English spelling) on wedding invitations? What about favor vs favour?

Both ways are grammatically correct. The decision is up to you and comes down to personal preference. At Mrs. John L. Strong, we prefer the American English version, unless you are English.

3. What is the appropriate verbiage when it comes to the reception?

There are a few different options, including “dinner and dancing to follow,” “reception to follow,” “reception immediately following,” “and afterwards at the reception” – the choice is up to you!

4. What is the etiquette when it comes to monograms on invitations?

If clients use a monogram on the invitation it should be the first initials of the bride and groom. Since invitations are sent out before the actual ceremony, they have not been united in holy matrimony yet so it’s improper to use the groom’s surname initial (assuming the bride takes his name). You can use the full married monogram on menu cards, escort cards and place cards (since these are all used after the actual ceremony).

5. What’s the etiquette for a traditional wedding suite?

In a traditional wedding suite, an invitation and RSVP are included. A reception card is only included if the reception is taking place at a location other than the location of the ceremony. Typically and traditionally, wedding invitations are assembled in size order, with each card face-up, starting with the invitation. There are of course deviations depending on the size, orientation and number of items. With engraving, we have a tissue overlay on top of each engraved item to protect it. When the invitation goes through USPS, the invitation can be jostled which can cause friction on the ink and paper, so we always require tissue overlays with our engraving. Another way to avoid damaging your invitations is to take your envelopes to the post office and request hand cancel. This helps preserve the integrity of the envelope and its contents!

From A Good Affair Wedding & Event ProductionFrom the moment I spoke to Alice on the phone I knew we were a perfect match for one another. She wanted someone who would help her find the perfect venue for her Southern California destination wedding and someone who would give her a personal experience during the planning process. We clicked right away and I knew I was in for a really amazing time with Alice and Chris! When it came to designing their wedding I wanted to incorporate personal details that had meaning for them and capture Alice’s eclectic style into the design. Going for an All Saints meets Romance vibe I set out to create an outdoor ceremony and reception at Montage Laguna Beach that was romantic but relaxed. Their intimate wedding had guests from all over the world, all first timers to California so we wanted them to experience what SoCal is all about. From the CA cookies to the In-N-Out truck for late night snacks, we created surprises throughout the day for them to enjoy. What I loved most about Alice and Chris’s wedding was the custom lighting canopy at dinner and the gorgeous ceremony, it truly was the perfect oceanfront destination wedding.

From the Bride… Chris and I met in 2008 at Washington University in St. Louis while pursuing our MBA degrees. Prior to orientation, I had sent him a Facebook friend request with the intention of getting to know ALL my new classmates but Chris will stand by that I made the “first move!” Our class was split into two groups, Chris and I were in the opposite groups, so, I didn’t get to know him until a few months later into our program. I remember one of the first times I saw him in the hallway, I tried to high-five him, but instead, I hit him in the eye! Over the next several months, Chris and I began to have classes together and of course, that led to “study dates”. Chris and I never had a “first date” – our relationship evolved from friendship to love little by little. I truly believe this is what makes our connection so strong.

Mustard seeds have a very special meaning in Chris’ life. Inspired by his Mom and taken from the scripture, it is symbolic of faith. We filled small apothecary bottles with mustard seeds and used it as place card holders by tying our guests’ table assignment with a leather band. We love to travel and our guests travelled from all over the world to share in our special day. Rather than a traditional guest book, we asked our guests to sign our globe (found at Anthropologie). Chris and I wrote on our vows and it was really special to recite our own written words in front of family and friends. True to my personality and an ode to our favorite show, I quoted Cam Tucker from Modern Family.

Even though Chris and I met in St. Louis and were living there at the time, it was not our hometown. Since almost all of our guests would have had to travel, we thought it would be more fun to visit a destination with beautiful landscape and amazing weather. Chris and I love California and immediately, the vision of warm sun, crashing waves and cool breeze appeared. We wanted a venue that would put you at ease the moment you stepped onto the property, a venue that embodied nature and simply put you at peace. When we stepped through the grand entrance of Montage Laguna Beach and stood at the balcony, we literally gasped and it took our breath away. We knew then it was the perfect venue.

Every wedding is unique, take the time to research and set priorities early with your fiancé. Always come back to these priorities when decisions become tough. It’ll help guide the way!
For the bride – even with a designer/planner, your life will be consumed with wedding planning because you find it fun but your partner likely won’t! Set aside time to talk about the wedding rather than letting it dominate every conversation and meal. My approach with Chris was that I would set aside 30 minutes each week to share with him all the progress that had been made and where I needed his input. Rather than asking him to help come up with a concept, I often asked him to pick between 2-3 options. Another quick tip: when he says he doesn’t care, he genuinely doesn’t care, don’t push him, go with what you like!Hire the best photographer and videographer your budget allows. The love, joy and touching moments of the day captured will last a lifetime.

Boho Chic Has Never Looked So Pretty

A vibrant wildflower flower crown, colorful cowboy boots, a pretty lace wedding dress, sunflowers all around and rustic wood elements — it doesn’t get any more bohemian chic than this. And with photos from Anne-Claire Brun Photography, it doesn’t get any prettier, either. Head to The Vault to see them all!

From Anne-Claire BrunI had never attended a wedding so colorful and filled with so many flowers! Larissa is a elementary teacher and William’s a fireman. Their ceremony was right at sunset, surrounded by hundreds of flowers and their vows were beautiful.

The venue, River Ridge Ranch, was so gorgeous! I loved the rustic feel and the romantic vibe throughout the entire day, and please, check out the arch of flowers! Talk about incredible!

From The Bride…William and Larissa met on a church trip when they were 16. She called him a cowboy, he thought she was a girly girl. Fast Forward to SIX YEARS LATER…William walks into Starbucks where Larissa is studying. She notices a “country-lookin man” from the corner of her eye, and hoped he would notice her. Little did she know it was William Wells. They talked for two and a half hours that day, met up that night at a concert and the next day realized they had so much in common: a love for the outdoors, the country side, Springville, hiking, the river, coffee, bright colored running shoes, all types of music, and of course Alan Jackson. He picked her a wild sunflower every time they were together after that. They fell in love and the rest is history. Only 8 1/2 months later he asked her to marry him and of course she said yes! Its crazy to think that William Wells grew up only five minutes from Larissa his whole life, and that he would soon marry the girl next door.

March 12th, 2015. It was a gorgeous spring day and I (Larissa) was home visiting for the weekend. William planned a day full of many surprises, a day I will always remember. We both find joy in God’s beautiful creation, so naturally, he planned a picnic for us on the cattle ranch that his family manages. We picked up food from Orange Works, our favorite place to eat in town. As we finished up our picnic under a beautiful oak tree, he took me to another spot on the ranch. As we walked into a beautiful field of wildflowers, we began to pick wildflower bouquets (one of my favorite things to do). As we picked the flowers, he began to talk to me about things he looks forward to in our future, when we get married, and what he loves about me. We came across a rare batch of yellow daisies that I thought were so beautiful. I hugged him and felt his heart beating fast, which made me think something was going on. As I began to walk away I said, “I’m going to pick more wildflowers.” Very smoothly he replied, “Can I ask you a question first?” He got down on one knee and my immediate reaction was, “Is this really happening right now? Are you kidding me? Are you serious? Oh my gosh!” He said yes, and then asked me, “Larissa Jade Clem, will you marry me, be my wife, and become Larissa Jade Wells?” And of course I said YES! He then put the most beautiful ring I have ever seen on my finger. After a moment of taking in the fact that he just proposed to me, my friend Brittney and William’s sister Bekah came out from behind a rock taking photos of us. We continued to take pictures in the wildflowers where he proposed. Afterwards he had yet another surprise: an engagement party with both of our families and close friends! It was a day full of such joy , celebration, and love. I am beyond grateful that God brought the man of my dreams, William Wells, into my life to spend forever with.

The planning process was a complete JOY! It has always been a dream of mine to become a wedding decorator/planner myself someday, so planning my very own was a blast! I enjoyed putting a lot of thought into every little detail. My favorite part was figuring out what would make our wedding unique to us as a couple.

I would like to call my wedding style a mixture of country, bohemian, wildflowers, and rustic. My wedding style was inspired by mine and William’s upbringing living in a small country town. We both grew up in the same small town on ranches. So naturally, we decided to make our wedding fit our lifestyles and what showed our personalities the most. Hence, my groom wore blue jeans, boots and a cowboy hat. I LOVE wildflowers. Spring time in our small town is absolutely beautiful with wildflowers blanketing the hills. I wanted my wedding to encompass a wildflower theme with bright colors and flowers. I wanted it to look cheerful and happy. I love bright colors, so of course my wedding had to be colorful too!

My favorite moment of the day was saying my personalized vows. There were so many feelings leading up to that moment– nerves, excitement, tears of joy, happiness. When I was finally looking into the eyes of my groom and noticed how his eyes were locked on mine, I felt so incredibly loved and cared for…I felt like the most beautiful bride in his eyes. As I said the last part of my vows, I looked up and noticed how beautiful the sun looked shining through the trees and I felt warmth and a deep sense of love from the creator and from my groom. This is the part of my vows that stands out to me, “William, before our friends and family, and before God as we are surrounded by His beautiful creation—I vow all of these things to you, I commit my heart and faithfulness to you fully and truly as your wife for as long as we both shall live.”

Processional:
For wedding party: Cowboys and Angels by Dustin Lynch
Bride processional: From this Moment On by Shania Twain
Recessional: True Love is a Golden Ring by Alan Jackson
First Dance: Look at Me by Alan Jackson

I played mostly country western music at my wedding, but later in the night during the reception we played hip-hop dancing music too (when I busted out the pink high top nikes)!

My advice for those who are planning now would be to make the wedding reflect who you are as a couple. Also, spend extra for the little details that matter most to you, like flowers, photography and so on. Enjoy the process…It may seem like the wedding planning is daunting or overwhelming at times (especially towards the end), but every effort is so worth it in the end when you see your dreams and hard work come to life! Another thing I didn’t realize would happen is how emotional I was the day before and the day of my wedding. The smallest things easily upset me because I was overwhelmed by emotions and the busyness of it all. But don’t worry, it happens! Try not to let those little things bother you. It is your day, the biggest day of your life! Smile and remember the reason why you’re getting married– to spend forever with the love of your life. And that is what it’s all about!

A Teenage Love Story with a Surprise Twist 58 Year Later!

When Audrey and Elvie married at just 17 and 18 years old, they knew they love was the real deal. 58 years later, their children and grandchildren helped throw the surprise of their life. Their event planner granddaughter, who works with Alluring Events & Design organized a backyard vow renewal officiated by their son with three generations of family in attendance. Elizabeth Warrick photographed, and it’s a true testament to the beauty of marriage.

From Alluring Events + DesignAt the ages of 15 and 16 Audrey and Elvie met in church and started dating, it didn’t take long for them to realize their love for each other. At the time, Elvie drove a black 1950 Mercury that he kept in pristine condition (a very cool car for a 16 year old boy). One day he decided he’d use orange paint and paint “Audrey” across the passenger door so the world would know that Audrey was his girl. Just a few short years later, on June 21, 1958, at the ages of 17 and 18, Audrey and Elvie were married in Porterville California.

Fast-forward 58 years, 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren later to June 21, 2016 and you get an unforgettable anniversary surprise. Their grand daughter, Rachele, a planner with Alluring Events + Design, along with the help of her family, designed and planned a surprise 58th anniversary vow renewal for their ‘Nana and Papa’.

“Earlier in the day we arrived at Nana and Papa’s house and got them ready for the big day, it was hard to keep the secret and get them all dolled up in dress clothes on a 95 degree day, but they went along with the surprise and trusted our excited (and mysterious) expressions.”

The first surprise of the day was a styled photo shoot just for the two of them. Next they were whisked off to a second location and kept inside until the reveal of the next big surprise was ready; the vow renewal in the backyard of their daughter’s home. It was an evening filled with tears and laughter as they walked down the aisle and recommitted their love and lives to each other. Their son officiated the intimate ceremony and their 3 generations of family watched in the seats behind them. Audrey and Elvie were absolutely surprised by the events of the day; each moment was a rush of emotion and joy.

“We wanted the evening to be just like Nana and Papa; Sweet, simple and a little bit country. The details and décor we chose were intentional and thought through; each piece had a purpose and represented them. Nana’s favorite shades of blue adorned the table and fruit picking baskets were used in the centerpieces to reflect their newlywed years when they spent hours each day working in the fields and orchards picking fruit together to support their young family. Vintage china, antique chairs, galvanized elements and shabby accents helped bring in the ‘country cottage’ feel that Nana and Papa love. Even the dinner we chose was a meal full of their favorite foods; fried chicken, honey cornbread, chicken and dumplings, fried okra and bacon green beans, with sweet tea and lemonade to drink plus peach, apple and strawberry rhubarb pies for dessert, yum!”

The love was palpable and it was clear that Audrey and Elvie had created a legacy of love and people who adored them in every way. They are a shinning example of unconditional love and devotion. It was a magical evening with memories that will be cherished forever. “Grow old with me, the best is yet to be”.

‘Written in the Stars’ Elopement Inspiration Shoot

A love that was written in the stars – sound familiar? Well it should if you’ve perused this gallery. Complete with celestial details and a few out of this world design moments, Rebekah Emily Photography captured it all to share in The Vault!

From Rebekah Emily PhotographyThis celestial elopement celebrates the story of a young couple who met in an astronomy class in college and drew closer to one another over a mutual love of stars. Set on top of a hill at the historic Rixey Manor in rural Virginia, this occasion is beautifully highlighted by both classic elegance and modern, artisanal touches. Swedish himmeli by Handmade Sam*Made are tastefully featured throughout the scenes, an abstract representation of the intricacies and splendor of constellations in the night sky.

Part of the charm of this beautifully curated event lies in the hand-crafted details, created especially for this occasion. The invitation suite, designed by Caitlin of Wouldn’t It Be Lovely, drew off of the himmeli for inspiration in the design of its border. The blind embossing alongside sweeping hand-lettering is the perfect introduction into the contemporary, artistic essence of the day.

The table runner, hand-painted by Sara Kate Couture, features an array of eloquent colors from peacock greens to midnight blues and moody purples, and is strewn with clusters of golden stars which come together to form whimsical constellations. Paired with handsomely designed menus and acrylic place cards bearing names of the couple’s favorite constellations, the runner adds striking continuity to the tabletop.

Echoes of the tabletop decor can be found in the enchanting cake-cutting tableau. A hand-painted backdrop, inspired by the magical transition of day into the midnight sky, hangs in striking contrast to the minimalist cake. Together these masterpieces create a scene that transforms the tradition of cake-cutting from merely a sweet vignette into a celestial vision of a dream-come-true.

Kari of Lark Florals thoughtfully selected her stems with the night sky in mind – bursts of purple astrantia, white astilbe, and thistle remind us of the glisten of starlight. Using soft, warm hues such as “Garden Spirit” roses and peach ranunculus, as well as the cool, silvery greens of dusty miller and silver leaf elaeagnus, Kari’s arrangements expertly touch on every facet of the extraordinary color scheme. Her florals are designed to feel not only luxurious, but also natural and approachable, to reflect the character and charm of the Manor itself. Special details such as the Groom’s pocket flowers (a refreshing spin on the traditional boutonniere) and exquisite garlands delight the eyes and inspire playfulness and creativity.

Set aside in a private room, the romantic sweetheart table offers the couple a quiet escape from the excitement of their wedding day. Soft white linens, rustic chairs original to the Manor, and a slight glisten of gold softly invite the couple in to enjoy their first dinner as husband and wife. The setting is intimate, allowing the couple to fully appreciate those special first moments of their new life together, side-by-side.

The guest sign, also by Sarah Kate Couture, doubles as a treasured keepsake for the couple. A painted canvas features the couple’s family initial, ‘P’, and a myriad golden stars. The artwork is set for guests to mark their names, symbolizing their own place in this new union’s constellation of family and friends – a sweet and simple detail that the couple can hang in their home, forever reminding them of the love and support they were and forever will be surrounded by.

And finally, the night ends with the newly married couple stepping outside to enjoy one of their favorite pastimes together: stargazing. Here we can see the heart behind this entire celebration – two people coming together and fashioning an event true to their own unique relationship. All of the vendors involved in this day seamlessly collaborated to weave together a darling juxtaposition of timeless romance and stylish trends, while carefully infusing the couple’s own love story into every detail for an endearing personal touch.
