“My bridesmaid’s dresses were a labor of love over the year + leading up to the wedding. I knew that I wanted them to be in various shades and patterns of pinks, peaches, & berries, so I worked with each bridesmaid individually to find them their dress. My goal was to, of course, achieve the mix and match vision I had in my head, but to also ensure that each of my girls felt beautiful, like themself, and genuinely excited to wear theirs! There is truly nothing worse than wearing a bridesmaid dress that you do not feel comfortable in!”

I’m excited to share a super-chic, four-day Devil’s Thumb Ranch wedding with you on behalf of GoBella in Colorado. The couple, Molly Malloy (Senior Account Manager in Sales at Indeed.com) and Lucas Pollack (Senior Enterprise Account Manager in Sales at Amazon), opted to get married at Devil’s Thumb Ranch because they wanted a destination that was both meaningful and reflective of their love for the mountains and the outdoors. Surrounded by the breathtaking Rocky Mountains, their event perfectly blended rustic charm and elegant design. Molly is originally from St. Louis, MO, and Lucas is from the Philadelphia area. After living in New York City, the couple now resides together in Philadelphia. (PS, you don’t want to miss the highlights videos featuring a RAINBOW!)

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From the Bride: “I came home from a workout class with a girlfriend around 11 AM on a Saturday in April, and as soon as I set foot into our entry hallway, I heard ‘Molly, can you come here for a second?” I started to walk down the hallway, and as soon as I could see even just a bit around the corner, I saw photos of us over the years, decorations, and Lucas there waiting for me. He knows that I am a lover of all things photos, insanely nostalgic, and I love to capture moments in time, so he had his phone propped up on a tripod and a small mic attached to his collared shirt so that I could relive that moment whenever I wanted to in the future. While so many people close to us thought I’d want the proposal to be something more “picturesque” or “wearing a cute outfit,” it was everything I didn’t know I needed, and ultimately everything I could ever want for the moment. Just the two of us, in the first home we lived together in, being authentically ourselves. So much of the overall wedding process involves so many other people, but the proposal itself is the one true opportunity to keep things intimate between just you and your partner. I am grateful that this moment will be something we will always have, just the two of us.”

Bride’s Wedding Day Look: Custom Lili Hod gown, Manolo Blahnik shoes, custom Guillermo Couture lace veil, vintage neck scarf and pearl choker, Ring Concierge earrings, Grandmother’s vintage bracelet “I knew I wanted to execute a look that was classic, timeless, & romantic, but with a bit of an edge. Of all the wedding gowns I tried on, I always went back to two things – I needed (not wanted) to wear a pearl choker, and I HAD to incorporate a neck scarf somewhere. Upon trying my LiliHod dress on, we asked the question, “Can these sleeves become removable?” and to our pleasant surprise, the answer was yes! It was then that I knew I could achieve all of the looks I wanted in just one day. For the ceremony, I wore my gown as it came with off-the-shoulder sleeves and paired it with a Vintage Pearl Choker that my mom and I had spent all year in search of. Before our grand entrance, both my MOH and best friend helped cut the sleeves off perfectly with fabric scissors to make my dress strapless, and it was then that I got a moment with my neck scarf! I paired it with a beautiful pearl bracelet that my Dad had given me during our first look earlier that day, which was his mother’s, whom I never had the pleasure of meeting. This was the one piece of jewelry of his mother’s that he still had in his possession, and he had been saving for me since I was born.” Bride’s Look #2: Vintage high neck gown from Happy Isles Salon. This dress change was a surprise to everyone, but most importantly to my Mom. She and I spent the year before the wedding in nonstop communication, discussing every design element and detail, with no white article of clothing from online shopping not shared… so the idea of surprising her with ONE thing excited me! And because of our love of fashion, it made it all the more special. My second look was a Vintage dress from Happy Isles Salon in New York City, and was something I did not expect to find! One of the more important things to me throughout curating all of my wedding weekend looks was that I didn’t want to wear things that I felt I’d seen over and over on previous brides (a much harder task than you’d think!) S,- I made a last-minute appointment at Happy Isles towards the end of May, and to my surprise, I found not 1 but 2 beautiful dresses! The one I settled on wearing was a vintage high-neck white dress with silver beading throughout, and it fit me like a glove. It was so fun to throw this on and surprise not only my guests but especially my Mama! The rush of going in and out of the reception to change was something that my fashion-obsessed self loved and would do it over again a million times.” Bride’s Look #3: Custom Beaded Mini Dress by Guillermo Couture. “I knew I wanted to wear something different for my after-party dress, but I wasn’t entirely sure what that looked like. I knew I wanted color, not white, and I knew I wanted it to be a mini. After scouring the internet for months on end trying to find something, my mom proposed the idea of getting something made. We had been put in contact with a dressmaker in New York City who was already creating my mom’s MOB dress for her, so for one of her appointments, I came along, and Guillermo (the designer) and I hit it off immediately. I’d sent Guillermo some silhouette inspiration photos, loose ideas of things I liked about certain dresses, and upon arriving, he had an entire vision board set up for me. Beautiful drawings of dresses adorned with swatches of various fabrics and pattern ideas. It truly felt like something out of a movie. The whole process was an unbelievably cool experience and one that I will never take for granted.. For the collaborative decision making process of this or that fabric, to seeing a 4-inch square example of what the beading would look like, to my Muslin fitting, to my first time seeing the actual dress – I was constantly feeling like I needed to be pinched. Guillermo was an absolute pleasure to work with, he too – he is beyond talented, kind, genuinely cares about his clients, and is hilarious. This process made all of my fashion design dreams come true and more!” Pool Party: Tocchin dress, custom Kemo Sabe cowboy hat, Shyanne cowboy boots. Rehearsal Dinner: Jonathan Simkhai dress, Miguel Ases earrings, vintage Illisa’s Vintage Lingerie purse, custom Stetson hat

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]”We served a variety of passed apps and signature drinks during cocktail hour. Both being lovers of all things good, the tasting back in March was something we thoroughly enjoyed. This was an area that I was happy to let Lucas take full reign on too – his taste buds are far superior to mine. We opted not to crate signage for our signature drinks but rather to have them passed around throughout cocktail hour and they were as follows:

– The Marvine Old Fashion – a typical old fashion, named after the street we now live on where we bought our first house together
– Lucas’s Spicy Ranch Water – a spin on a ranch water with tajin on the rim and some jalapeno zest
– Molly’s French 75 – your typical french 76 but opted for Vodka instead of gin

Dinner was delicious and we picked all of our favorite things from the tasting to serve this night. A small wedge salad with candied bacon to start, followed by your choice of short rib, chicken, or vegetarian. The Ranch raises its own cattle so the majority of our guests opted for the short rib and it did not disappoint!

For the dessert we went with a beautifully decorated 3 tier cake (on the smaller side) – and the inside was carrot cake! Something untraditional, arguably a bit risky color wise, but the flavors were to die for. I still think about this cake to this day. In addition to this we had a dessert bar for all of our guests to choose their own adventure – cookies, cupcakes, mini donuts, and individual jars of chocolate mousse!

Upon entering the restaurant transformed into a nightclub, our guests were offered espresso martinis for a sweet treat and a way of reenergizing for round 2! We served a variety of your typical late night foods with a n ode to a few things we both love so much on – pizza, french fries, breakfast sandwiches, and of course, a philly cheesesteak!”[/field]

“The ceremony took place in the middle of a sun lit field surrounded by vast valleys and breathtaking mountain views. Guests were greeted with champagne and parasols before they were seated on beautiful wood benches that we felt matched the natural elements of our surroundings. Lining the aisle were an array of stunning, colorful, perfectly curated and placed flowers that flowed up and eventually circled around to where Lucas and I would stand hand in hand. Between the perfect weather, the beautiful mix of emotions both felt and expressed, and the unbelievable backdrop – I really could not have imagined a more perfect day. To top it all off though, there were 4 absolutely beautiful horses grazing in the field behind us that unbeknownst to us decided to come a little closer. It wasn’t until one guest came up to me during the reception and said,” you know what the coolest thing was that happened during your ceremony? One white and one black horse came up behind you both as you were saying your vows and nestled into one another for what seemed like a kiss. It was really one of the most wild things I’ve ever seen” – and that to me, is something straight out of a romance novel!” “We went into our reception with a “no rules” perspective, but with the goal of a very intentional outcome. The reception was designed to make a statement while still feeling elegant and formal. We deliberately made the transition from light and airy floral aesthetic at cocktail hour, to the romantic and bold ambiance inside the barn. Upon entering the barn you were greeted by long farm tables filled with dimly lit candelabras and florals that were rich and vibrant shades of deeper pinks and berries. The florals were meticulously placed into shapes that showed both intention and movement. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling of the barn to add some extra flare; and, of course, the mountains were framed by floor to ceiling windows behind out band as the perfect backdrop until the sun went down. Our guests did not disappoint, and everyone could be found on the dance floor all night. We wanted the reception to feel bold and vibrant to match the fun-filled energy that we knew would fill the room all night – and it did exactly that!”

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

“Our vows were so genuine to who we are both individually and as a couple. So much so that we said the same thing at one point almost verbatim – “I promise to push you out of your comfort zone when I know you need it most” ” I promise to step out of my comfort zone when you know it’s the right thing for me to do and that will pay off for me in the long run” “I am a lover of all things emotion, sentiment, nostalgia, memories – so naturally toasts tend to be my favorite aspect of weddings, regardless of who it is that is speaking. To me, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring all of your favorite people together in one room, to celebrate your love and this next chapter, and hear from those most important to you. Having given my fair share of toasts at my brother’s, friends’, and cousins’ weddings, it felt like an amazing out-of-body experience for these toasts to now be directed towards us. My dad spoke first, and as his only daughter and the youngest of the 4, you can imagine there were a few tears shed in the room. Hearing how proud he was of the two of us and him calling Lucas his 4th son for the first time brought tears to my eyes. Second, we had my mom, who, boy, did she have the entire reception crying! You don’t often see a mother of the bride speaking at the reception alongside the father, but this, to me and us, was a no-brainer. My mom and I are best friends, wildly similar, and have spent the last year creating such a beautiful weekend together – I could not have imagined my wedding without her speaking at it. Furthermore, we had my MOH, Kelly, who has been like a sister to me since growing up. We are 9 days apart and have gone through every phase of life together. The two of us balance each other out perfectly. I am loud and outgoing, and Kelly is steady and a bit more reserved. But get the two of us together, and there is no shortage of laughter and memories made. She hit the nail on the head with her toast by writing the perfect mix of sentimental and humorous. Lastly, we had Lucas’s brother Ian, best man, AND officiant speak. After providing us all with such an incredibly beautiful, well-thought-out, witty, and comedic ceremony, we all thought there’s no way he can come in for round 2, and it would be just as good. We were very much wrong – Ian had the entire barn laughing, smiling, crying, and clapping.” Song – All Your’n by Tyler Childers . or our ceremony, we had a 4-piece string quartet playing, and it was magical. In choosing the music for it, we were deliberate while also trying not to be too on the nose. We ultimately picked songs that we both loved for different reasons, both big and small. We chose to have our bridal party walk down the aisle to “I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles – a band that Lucas fondly remembers listening to as a kid with his parents. As my dad and I started to make our way to where our walk started, the quartet began playing Yellow by Coldplay, and at that moment, I felt my dad squeeze my hand a bit tighter. It was that moment that everything started to feel incredibly real. For reception entertainment, we had a 7-piece band that exceeded any expectations! Between the vocals, the horns (THE HORNS), and the overall energy of both the band and the guest, there was no stopping us. There were multiple times in the night that I found myself on stage with Lucas or myself singing into one of the mics and just remember feeling so happy, so full of life, and having an absolute blast. At one point, Lucas and his brother busted into an entirely unplanned and impromptu synchronized dance that had my jaw on the floor. Seriously, you can see me in the background of the videos in shock! The two of them dancing so in sync with their white cowboy hats we passed out as party favors on and their tuxedo suspenders acting as a prop for certain dance moves was truly one of the funniest and most fun parts of the night.”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]”After the reception ended all of our guests were directed from the Barn to a nearby outdoor set of long stairs that began to walk to the Main Lodge where the after party would take place.

As soon as Lucas and I set foot onto those stairs to make our exit, “sparktaculars” shot off all the way down the winding stairs!

I knew that the Ranch did not allow any sort of fireworks so these water based firework-like creations were a complete surprise to both me and Lucas! As always, my mom had tricks up her sleeve and provided us with not only the most epic exit, but such a fun and exciting way to start the procession from Reception to the After Party!”[/field]

An Intimate, Fairy-Like Springtime Wedding at the Court of Two Sisters

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Light blue, navy, pinks, peach, white [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Our vision was to feel like you were stepping into an intimate, fairy-like springtime garden. We knew we wanted an outdoor venue, and once we found the perfect courtyard, the whole design just came together. With a 180-year-old wisteria tree in the center that canopies over the entire courtyard, a wishing well, and other special details, it was an immediate yes. The venue itself brought so many moments of inspiration for the design. We wanted it to be elegant but colorful, bringing in springtime florals and accentuating every detail in the courtyard. The view of the florals and twinkling lights in the tree canopy, walking in there that night for the first time, was so special.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

In November 2022, we had begun house hunting, and I continued to bring up that I didn’t want to buy a house unless we were going to be getting married., We had been talking about marriage for a while, so I knew it would happen eventually. About a week later, after finding a house we wanted to put an offer in on, Kai had his mom text in the family group message that she wanted to go to church and brunch with the whole family that Sunday (which wasn’t uncommon to do). We all went to church and then drove to brunch after, and when getting out of the ca,r Kai mentioned that he needed to grab something from the back, he then pulled out a vest and put it on even though it was 85 degrees out this day in New Orleans which I thought was silly. While we all started to walk in, he said that he wanted to show me a pond he used to go to when he was a little boy. While walking over there, he proposed in front of a beautiful fountain in City Park. He had a photographer waiting, and my family was there as well to join us at brunch. It was the best day!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

For my wedding gown, I knew that I wanted a strapless dress with a really large full skirt. As I started looking at inspiration from different places, I decided I wanted a classic full lace moment. The gown was Atelier Beccar, and upon finding the dress, I knew I wanted to add some special personalizations to make it my “dream dress”. We added a full skirt underneath to make it larger, changed the neckline slightly, added a custom belt with pieces of lace from the dress on it, and had two removable lace sleeves made for me to wear during the ceremony in the church. It came together perfectly, and I loved that the dress became one of a kind to me. My after-party dress was custom-made by Debbie Ales (D by Design) in Mandeville, LA. She also made my rehearsal dinner dress, which we designed together, and she brought my vision to life. Since I was doing lace for my wedding gown, I wanted to do a different style for my after-party dress. As a nod to the springtime florals that I love so much, we designed a structured white satin mini dress with hand-painted flowers sewn on, adorned with a detachable train and bow on the back. It was so fun to wear, I loved the color we were able to bring into it.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]My favorite color is blue so I knew I wanted my bridesmaids all in that color, but I wanted them to have fun with it! They all have great style so I told them I wanted them to choose their own dresses and to mix it up a little. Some in solids, some textured, floral, etc. And they did so good, I loved how all of the dresses came together. They were from brands like V. Chapman, Reformation, Bagley Mishka, Show Me Your Mumu, ASOS, Sherri Hill, and NBD. They were my something blue! [/field]

The groomsmen were all in black tuxes to keep the attire classic and elegant.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]Having our reception at a well known restaurant in New Orleans, we knew the food would be delicious. We stuck with New Orleans classics, and tried to make sure there was something for everyone. Kai was especially excited for the blackberry glaze duck hors d’oeuvre and I think the guests equally loved it as well. Our specialty cocktails were his- Old fashioned and hers- French 75. Everyone loved the specialties! [/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

As an artist, I am always thinking about color and color palettes. So when we started planning colors and floral, I knew I wanted it filled with springtime colors and lots of greenery. To bring the spring garden vibe, we brought in lots of garden roses, blue hydrange, and added additional greenery in places to accentuate the architecture of the space. From a floral arch to band flower boxes, a wishing well that our florist covered in blue hydrangeas, all of the florals brought life to the courtyard. We also wanted to add special details to the decor, such as large custom bows, custom crests on all napkins, blue ginger jars on every table for florals, and a custom powder blue checkered dance floor.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

For the wedding cake, we kept it simple and classic white and used the florals to embellish it and flow down the cake. We kept it in the whites and light pink color scheme, with a large arrangement of white hydrangeas and garden roses. It was Chantilly flavored with fresh berries, our favorite cake flavor. The groom’s cake was custom-made as well by Cakes by Tomo and was a Yeti Cooler with red snapper in it. Kai is a big fisher, and he was so excited to design it himself.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”][/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

As an artist, one of my commission offerings is that I paint champagne bottles. This made it so important and a fun detail for us to do a champagne pour! We did this after the first dance, and it was such a fun added activity to start the festivities of the night. We had custom bows made that were added to tables throughout the space, and the bow on this table was the perfect detail to complete the look. I gifted all my bridesmaids a different set of silk pajamas, which came together so sweet for the photos. But as an addition, I also wanted to give them a note to say thank you and tell them how thankful I was for our friendship. I decided to paint each of them a watercolor of myself and them in our dresses and write a note for each of them on the back of it. I was so happy they were all for me that weekend!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]As owner and artist of Brown Art and Design, I really wanted to create our wedding crest. The crest actually inspired the rest of the decor and wedding colors. We used the crest in our save the dates and formal invitations as well. I designed our whole wedding invite suite and it was so fun to play with paper textures, ribbon, and other details. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

Our late-night photos alone inside the Carousel Bar at The Hotel Monteleone. After we left the afterparty, Cheryl and Will (our photographers) followed us back to the hotel we were staying at, and on our way up to the room, they had the brilliant idea to go into the Carousel Bar since no one was in it at the time. Thankfully,y there was one worker left in the bar cleaning, up and he let us in to take some photos. We had never experienced the Carousel so empty, it was only us in there. It was so special, those are still some of our favorite photos.

My college friend was in from out of town, so a group of us were going to brunch. As a setup, a few days before, my friends changed the plan and decided to also invite everyone’s husbands/fiancés. So, I asked Adrian to come to brunch with us! It was the perfect excuse for us to walk towards Washington Mews (a pretty street in NYC), where Adrian proposed. I was shocked and had no clue. Adrian then organized a huge party with all our friends and family right after. It was such an amazing day!

It was hard, but once I found it, I knew! I didn’t have a vision for it, so when I would look for dresses, I didn’t know what I wanted, but I knew once I tried something, it wasn’t what I wanted (lol). I love fashion, so I knew I had to find the perfect dress that was me! I was at my first appointment at Mark Ingram after going to a few other places before, and another customer had asked them to have a sample (of what ended up being my dress) sent to Mark Ingram. The dress was only there for a week or so, so it was the right place, right time for me to be there! I tried it on and the sample fit perfectly – I was in love! The sample was a runway sample, so it wasn’t lined, and I loved the vibe so much I ended up keeping it un-lined (which sounds crazy). I spent all year trying to find the perfect undergarment to wear – and I did! I wore a nude Skims body suit with nude Skims leggings (which essentially created a catsuit), and it was perfect. You couldn’t see it, and it kept intact the beautiful look of the dres, streamlined

We did seasonal colors on Friday night, the room looked gorgeous. Lots of flowers hanging from the ceiling. Saturday night we did white and green – lots of roses (we are Mrs rose) and candles for a classic, romantic vibe. The reception room had so many roses hanging from the ceiling. The aisle had huge floral arches leading up to the chuppah, which looked incredible and looked perfect with the setting of the amphitheater. And the after party was insane! Best florist ever!!!!!!!!!!

We wanted the colors to embrace Colorado’s natural beauty, along with the white for a classic pure wedding feel, and gold to bring warmth and a formal feel. All I wanted was to always look back on my wedding day as something that stands through time and never goes out of style.

Picking out my dress was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning. I wanted something unique (which I had a custom topper made for my dress by Mira to make it truly one of a kind). Since it was a custom topper, I had to trust the process and wait to see how it turned out. Mira never fails. It was the most perfect dress and entailed everything I wanted for my wedding day. Unique, traditional, classy, and romantic. My dress was one of my happiest decisions I made throughout the process.

We loved our fun signature cocktails. We both love The Gardener Martini from Matsuhisa and were so glad we got to incorporate it into our wedding day and share something we love so much with guests. The Little Nell has top-notch food and beverage service. One of our favorite parts was having guests order off their menu as if it were a restaurant. It made the experience elevated.

The Sundeck at the top of Aspen Mountain is a more rustic space. One of the most important aspects was the installation over the dance floor, I wanted our guests to walk in a be blown away by is grandeur and beauty! Carolyn and her team understood my vision for something that felt natural to Colorado but also gave a sense of glamor to the space. It was perfect.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Our cake was one of our favorite parts – Elissa with D’Elissous Cake Studio took my vision and executed it perfectly. It was a four tier cake with edible white sugar flowers and gold leaves that tied into the other gold accents in our design. It was amazing and tasted even better than it looked!

10 Things Your Florist Wishes You Knew

If you’ve been pinning gorgeous bouquets and intricate centerpieces for years, you’re probably the type of bride who’s put a lot of thought into her wedding flowers. But there are still a few things you need to know before making the floral decisions for your wedding. Here are ten insider tips that wedding florists would like you to keep in mind before your big day!

Seasonal matters.

If you ask for anemones in July or calla lilies in November, it’s going to run your bill way, way up. Look for flowers that will be blooming naturally around your wedding date, and stay flexible on the exact breed of flower.

Not all florists are the same.

When finding a florist, ask questions about delivery services, how far before your wedding the bouquets will be created, and if they provide other services (linen rentals, table number rentals, etc.)

No, flowers aren’t expensive only because they’re for your wedding.

The idea of a “wedding tax” being put on florals simply isn’t true. Flowers eat up a larger part of your budget because of the many hours put into them. Unlike for more basic events, brides tend to be very focused on complex details of their bouquets, leading to more hours for florists spent making them flawless. Between speaking with the bride, planning the florals, and actually executing the floral plan, florists can spend a ton of time bringing the bride’s floral vision to life. If you think about it, you’re really ordering custom art—and in most cases, multiple pieces.

DIY isn’t as easy as it seems.

It’s becoming more and more common or brides to put their own bouquets together or outsource to a friend. If that’s your thing, great—but make sure you do the research ahead of time. Removing pollen, thorns, and other pointy stems is an absolute necessity, and it looks a lot easier than it actually is to create a pretty group of flowers.

Outdoor photos can be killer on bouquets.

If you’re taking outdoor photos before your ceremony, limit the amount you pose with your flowers. The summer heat and winter chill can both be tough on flowers. Take a few portraits, then have a bridesmaid take your flowers back inside for a drink and some rest.

You should consider the environment.

Working with a florist that uses local gardeners means less gas and refrigeration used. Go as farm-to-table as possible. Bonus: organic flowers also tend to last longer!

Don’t use overly scented florals.

Some flowers smell amazing, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a great fit for your centerpieces. Scents highly impact our taste buds, and so if you have lilies of the valley, lilacs, or other highly-fragrant flowers in your centerpiece, it could negatively affect how your wedding meal tastes to friends and family. Also, smells are so individual—you never know if something that smells wonderful to you smells less-than-stellar to your guests.

Think about your photos and wedding day look.

Don’t select flowers for your bouquet that will clash with your bridesmaid’s dresses, even if you love them. If your venue is over-the-top and colorful, consider going simpler with the color scheme of your centerpieces. Thinking about your aesthetic as a whole will help you make better floral decisions.

Think outside the box.

Adding a personal touch, like a rosary or a piece of your mom’s veil wrapped around your bouquet, is a super-simple way to bring even more meaning to your flowers. It’s also easy to do—just don’t forget to give your memento to your florist ahead of time. Some florists also love creating unique details like flowers for your cake or entrance arches for your reception. Ask your florist to show you photos of their favorite work they’ve created for weddings to get an idea of what they can do.

Trust your vendors.

Florists work with a natural product, which means they often need to stay flexible. If the flowers you ordered haven’t quite bloomed or aren’t as large as the florist would like, they may need to make substitutions to keep your florals looking perfect. Trust that your vendor has your best interests at heart and try not to be bridezilla over your bouquet.

At the end of the day, your florist wants to work with you to make your wedding the day you’ve been dreaming of. But by keeping these tips in mind, you’ll have fewer bumps in the road and smoother sailing to “I Do” surrounded by gorgeous florals.

Earthy Neutrals of Stone, Ivory, Caramel Are a Match Made in Heaven at Hummingbird Nest Ranch

Earthy neutrals of stone, ivory, caramel, and walnut paired with onyx black and touches of greens and gold.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Playing to the couple’s song from Dan & Shay that reminded them of each other, we created a space that married classic modern romance with earthy, elegant touches that organically worked and built upon each other like concrete, stone, and flora. Playing to design that echos the subtleties of “till death do us part” we balanced masculine and feminine, where James Bond and a black tie affair met a grounded minimalist Zen garden vibe as a resting place with marble veins of gold inlay, growing greenery, sophistication, raised platforms and a stairway to heaven all within a stunning Neurtal + Moody palate.

Cocktail hour consisted of various trays passed hors d’oeuvres such as mini carne asada tacos, mini braised beef short rib, mini fried chicken sandwiches, spicy tuna tartar over rice cake, and tomato bruschetta with specialty cocktails like Kiss of Death whiskey sour, The Tombstone (an old fashioned,) and Meet Your Maker Moscow mule).to sip on. Followed by a three-course dinner via Tres LA catering and mixology “Stairway to Heaven” bar with Brick & Brass cocktails paired with desserts via Hey There Cupcake during reception. Pairings like Fading Fast (Espresso Martini with mini Brownie), Good and Gone (old-fashioned with salted caramel cheesecake), and Beyond the Veil (shot of tequila with cotton candy) were to die for!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Modern, black tie elegance meets warm, zen garden. Playing to the Stairway to Heaven design concept, we created a bit of a sunken marble dance floor feel with stairways and raised platforms for the VIP tables that surrounded the space. Vessels and candle holder selections demonstrated clean lines that were placed with bud vases of blooms nestled among broken slate. Giving a nod to tombstones, we used stone place card holders and created custom table numbers upon gathered rock with floating numbers. White garden florals en masse with greenery above added a wow factor above the head table that was a custom-built tilt stairway landing, while touches of caramel tones brought in warmth and softness to the bold black and white palette. Clusters of concrete pendants hung above the entry as well as onyx and ivory taper modern chandeliers that added a focal point above the tables.

The groom entered to Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis, and the bride chose to enter to the classic Canon in D The recessional song was You’re the Reason by Calum Scott. The grand entrance song was At Last by Etta James, and their first dance was I Will Wait by Matt Johnson, which was appropriate as they had to reschedule their wedding a few times due to COVID. Matt danced with his mom to Hey Mamma by Kanye West.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Printed custom cocktail napkins as a surprise from the bride, which held Matt’s love notes in his handwriting that he often left around the house for Devin.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

To play to the lyrics of their song “From the ground up” by Dan & Shay that reminded them of each other, “Someday we’ll wake up with thousands of pictures” we created a pathway of oversized pictures of the couple printed in black and white on fabric that lined the grass before guests entered the structure accented with overgrown flowers and candles! It was such a wow moment as guests entered!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

{Find your resting place} A large-scale faux stone stairway to heaven held different-sized pots with guest names to direct them to their seats. Floral moments accented the pots and grew organically up the step, inviting guests to find their place to rest for the evening before taking to the dance floor.

An Al Fresco Wedding at Villa Richter That Kept the Beauty of Prague as the Focal Point

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Bright warm colors like pinks, oranges, purples, and yellows mixed in with pops of green[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

We met while I was studying abroad in Prague during our junior year of college! We both went to school at UT Austin, but weirdly enough, he met me by chance halfway across the world. We ultimately decided to return to the special place we met for our wedding. When we decided to get married in Prague, we knew we wanted to have a venue that showcased the beauty of Prague for all of our guests to experience. I had remembered Villa Richter from my time in Prague and how it had the most amazing view. The rest of the wedding was designed to keep the view and Prague as the focal point. Our planner, Andrea, worked with the Villa to set up an al fresco style outdoor dinner overlooking the Prague skyline with long tables, colorful flowers, and taper candles. I wanted it to feel like a fun dinner party.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

We got engaged in February 2023 in Austin at our favorite music venue. Ander and friends had convinced me that we were all going to dinner on a Friday for my best friend’s birthday, which was on Saturday. We had some friends coming into town, so it seemed like a logical scenario, although I must admit I had been suspicious of the looming proposal for a few months. In the Uber on the way to “dinner,” I noticed we weren’t headed to the restaurant and immediately started crying, knowing what was about to happen. Ander began to get choked up, but tried to keep the bit going by asking if I wanted to split the fajitas at dinner – I died laughing. We arrived at ACL Live Moody Theater downtown and were guided inside, then a big screen began playing a video slideshow Ander had made to one of our favorite songs. I was a complete puddle by the time he asked me to marry him, it was so special. We then headed to Kitty Cohen’s, a local cocktail lounge on the east side, for a surprise party with all of our closest friends and our parents. Some of our friends even flew from all over the US to be there. It was the most fun night ever (second to our wedding!)

One of our favorite things to do is to have dinner with family friends, whether it’s going out for a nice meal or hosting dinner at our house. We wanted our wedding dinner to feel like another dinner party with friends with an elevated touch, so we had long tables under string lights with family-style appetizers and bottles of wine on the table. We also served martinis and aperol spritzes, some of our favorite cocktails! We had a saxophone player playing during dinner, which kept the vibe alive and everyone dancing in their chairs. All of the food was cooked by Villa Richter, and our menu was designed custom for our al fresco outdoor dinner. The menu included a feast of beef filet, porchetta, and prawn skewers, with au gratin potatoes and roasted vegetables.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

We worked with our planner and florist to create the most beautiful, unique arrangements in bright colors.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

We had a four tiered cake with two different unique flavors, and we had our florist adorn the cake with beautiful orchids. We served espresso martinis with our wedding cake, which really got the party started!

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

We had our ceremony at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Prague, a church that was built in the 1200s! Ander’s family priest came from Houston to perform our ceremony. The wedding party walked down the aisle to a string quartet playing classical music, and I walked down the aisle to Canon in D playing on the in-house organ. There were so many moments throughout the wedding that were truly incredible. One of my favorites has to be the grand entrance where we walked into the saxophone portion of “Midnight City” by M83. The energy from our guests was wild, with everyone cheering and waving their napkins. Our dance floor was right in front of the long tables, looking over the beautiful Prague skyline, and it was absolutely beautiful. We went right into our first dance, which was an upbeat song, “We stayed up all night” by Tourist, one of our favorite artists. The dance felt different and just like us – we were singing the words and just being ourselves. Another favorite was the saxophone player – he brought the energy and made dinner feel like such a party. One of my favorite moments was when the DJ called the guests to the dance floor, and everyone immediately jumped up and rushed to the dance floor – it was unlike anything I had ever seen before!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

After the outdoor dancing and the sparklers, we headed inside the villa to the glass hall for a couple more hours of dancing and some late-night snacks. Ander, who is also an electronic music producer, was able to hop on the stand and DJ with some friends. We danced the night away!

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Our wedding day was also one of our friend’s birthdays – so when it was time to cut our wedding cake, we surprised him with a special birthday cake and sparklers. The whole wedding sang happy birthday to him, which was especially hilarious because he didn’t want anyone to know it was his birthday! [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

Within our escort cards, we wrote handwritten notes to all of our guests! We wanted to thank them all for travelling to Prague for our special day.

A Star-Shaped Reception and Abundant Hydrangea at Chateau De La Napoule

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”][/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Emma and Joffrey wanted a timeless decoration that blended tradition with modernity for their 250 guests. We chose an all-white, minimalist decor, with no foliage or additional colors, except for subtle golden touches on the table settings. The result was both understated and chic, with a deeply romantic ambiance. Our focus was on elegance and attention to detail. We opted for a monochromatic floral design, featuring white roses in single vases on the long tables, and abundant hydrangea arrangements (the bride’s favorite flower) on the round tables. To complement this, we worked with fabrics and drapery, particularly for the ceremony. The aim was to create a structure that was both grand enough to welcome 250 guests and minimalist enough to match the understated table decor. The medieval castle’s impressive architecture inspired us to introduce a modern design that would soften its imposing style while adding a touch of contemporary charm.

For the overall design, I had the idea of creating a star-shaped seating arrangement, and I must say the aerial shots turned out breathtaking! Energy was fundamental to our vision—we wanted to create something that was not only beautiful and majestic but also warm and inviting. As guests arrived for dinner, they were greeted by a violinist performing on a circular stage in the center of the tables—a magical moment. The evening’s entertainment featured a DJ accompanied by live musicians, creating an incredible atmosphere. Guests danced for hours under the stars and later continued the celebration in the castle’s Gothic hall.

The seated dinner included a single course: a filet of sea bass served with potato gratin and seasonal vegetables, a nod to the Mediterranean setting.
For dessert, guests were treated to an expansive buffet offering a wide variety of options to satisfy every sweet tooth.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The floral arrangements were carefully designed to reflect the couple’s love for timeless elegance. White roses and hydrangeas took center stage, as these are not only the bride’s favorite flowers but also hold sentimental value—Joffrey gifts her these blooms every month. Long tables were adorned with single roses in glass vases, adding a minimalist yet refined touch, while round tables featured generous hydrangea arrangements for a sense of grandeur. Soft drapery enhanced the ceremony decor, creating a luxurious yet modern atmosphere. These thoughtful details brought a contemporary softness to the imposing medieval castle, striking the perfect balance between history and modern design.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]As a passionate fan of choux pastries, the groom chose a traditional French croquembouche. Standing over 1.5 meters tall, it was unveiled on the outdoor dance floor in the castle’s courtyard—a dramatic and unforgettable presentation.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]The couple worked closely with their wedding planner to select a modern band that could appeal to both their parents and families earlier in the evening, while also playing more upbeat songs to get everyone dancing later into the night.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]The couple words : It was the most beautiful day of our lives, and the year of planning was absolutely worth it[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]The bride’s family owns a stunning estate in Mougins, where Emma spent all her childhood vacations. It was only natural for her to host a reception following the civil ceremony in this family home, filled with cherished memories.
This reception took place two days before the wedding and welcomed 150 privileged guests.

The event unfolded in three parts: first, the civil ceremony in the famous and picturesque village of Mougins. Guests were then transported by van to the bride’s family home, where they discovered the enchanting and traditional setting of a henna ceremony.
As night fell, the celebration moved to the estate’s gardens for an evening under the theme “Chic Provence.”
The design was carefully curated, featuring rattan furniture and pampas grass, aromatic plants, and a Prosecco van. The beautifully styled buffet displays immediately immersed guests in a warm, convivial atmosphere with a touch of local charm.[/field]

A Fusion of London Meets Texas at Wolf Creek Ranch

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Blue, green, pink, and yellow[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Our wedding theme was a fusion of London meets Texas. The crest created for Sophia and Joe was featured throughout the venue and played a significant role in the planning process. The invitations included hand-drawn ‘easter eggs’ that represented both Sophia and her now husband, Joe. Every detail was thoughtfully planned and she shares “I knew I wanted disco balls, vibrant colors, string lights, cornhole, and, most importantly, for everyone to have a great time. Oh, and we also had In-N-Out, which was Joe’s one must-have request!”

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]While vacationing in Croatia with the Branch family, Joe proposed! He’d reserved a table at a breathtaking seaside restaurant, with plans for cocktails beforehand. After dinner, they went stargazing. Soph had a feeling something special was about to happen, so she painted her nails just in case. When Joe suggested stargazing, her suspicions grew. Afterward, he asked if she wanted to see the waves. Though it was pitch black outside, she eagerly agreed. That’s when Joe got down on one knee and proposed, sharing sweet words before the big moment. Soph said yes, and the rest is history![/field]

After searching in London and in Dallas the bride found the dress of her dreams. She knew she wanted something timeless, elegant and chic … that’s when she found the dress! A Justin Alexander gown, the bow was the cherry on top for Sophia who is bow obsessed. The bride worked with a small town dressmaker named, Magdalena Garach in England to make her reception gown.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

The bride knew from her own experience of being a bridesmaid that she wanted one thing for her girls… comfort! She let her beautiful bridesmaids pick their own Jenny Yoo dress, and she picked the color. “Everyone has such a unique figure and style, they deserve to feel confident and beautiful for the big day”. The bride specifically went with shades of blues so they could also be her “something blue” (as were the moms)

[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

Because the groom is from England and the groomsmen are dotted around the world, he opted to let them choose a dark navy suit that would complement his blue suit. The groom went for a more unique styled suit, one that would easily be found for a countryside wedding. The tailored Moss suit was a picture perfect fit for the groom.

The event had a plated dinner for each guest and was catered by the renowned Kent Rathbun. The groom’s favorite cocktail is a Ranch Water, while the bride’s is a Moscow Mule, which I included in our envelope liner. They also had these as the signature cocktails on the big day. Branch Water and Maascow Mule, a playful nod to their last names.

Sophia shares, “for the Ceremony I wanted it to be different, airy, whimsy but not covered in flowers. I knew that I wanted an element of some type of chamomile or daisy because the first night I met Joe I picked a daisy on my walk home. Just little things that have hidden meaning…”

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The three tiered was the perfect centrepiece to their barn wedding. Accompanied by the grooms two tiered cookie cake. As soon as the groom saw that as an option he lit up. The bride quickly added that to their plans. The bride and groom picked a tres leches cake, a dulce de leche Swiss buttercream and hand painted flowers by the extremely talented, Kayli Bakes cakes. A Wedding Inspired by Haute Couture and the Timeless Sophistication of the Legacy Castle

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The bride and groom’s vision was a breathtaking celebration of their passion for haute couture fashion, bespoke jewelry, rich cultural heritage, and the timeless sophistication of The Legacy Castle, one of New Jersey’s most iconic wedding venues. Every detail of their wedding was infused with luxury and artistry, creating a vibrant, grandiose atmosphere. Their cultural tea ceremony, held in an opulent private suite, was a masterpiece of elegance. The bride was stunned in a hand-woven Georges Hobeika feather gown, adorned with collectible Cartier jewels and a bridal hairpiece crafted by Bridal Styles Boutique. Meanwhile, the groom exuded sophistication in a bespoke Hermès tuxedo, as the couple exchanged lavish gifts from their loved ones. The bride’s flawless look was perfected by Stacie Ford Beauty, Akiyo Koyama, and colorist Dyno Cuts. The couple’s first look unfolded against the regal backdrop of The Legacy Castle, with captivating portraits taken in the gardens and at The Legacy Terrace, setting a romantic tone before the ceremony. The Grand Legacy Ballroom played host to their enchanting ceremony, where the bride floated down a jaw-dropping runway aisle in a custom Maria Farbini couture gown, cathedral veil, and Gianvito Rossi heels. Her vibrant bouquet, designed by Arcadia Floral Company, added a burst of color to the scene, while the groom was dashing in a tailored Zegna tuxedo. A string quartet by The Silver Arrow Band, dramatic floral installations, and an epic floral cannon marking the couple’s recessional made the ceremony a feast for the senses. The reception was an unforgettable affair. The Grand Legacy Ballroom dazzled with dramatic lighting by Visual Comet New York, lush floral arrangements by Arcadia Flower Company, photo booths by iPic Photo Booth NJ, and live entertainment from The Silver Arrow Band. Guests reveled in an evening designed for iconic celebrations. For their first dance, the bride returned to her Georges Hobeika gown, twirling under the spotlight before changing into a striking Allure Bridal couture gown for the reception. As the evening unfolded, performers from Athena Entertainment welcomed the couple with flair, leading into a sensational dinner service. The excitement escalated with a captivating contortionist performance by Aerial Acrobat Entertainment. The festivities didn’t stop there—an electrifying after-party closed out the night, ensuring this wedding was an affair to remember for a lifetime.

Moody Meets Modern at This Autumn Vineyard Estate Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]We leaned into the Autumnal hues of Northern California complimenting marigold and rust colors with warm browns, merlot red and various greens. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The vision for Carly and Nate’s wedding was a California-chic autumnal soirée that blended a relaxed, fun atmosphere with effortless beauty. We sought to harmonize romantic and contemporary aesthetics, pairing organic florals and foliage with sleek, modern table settings and furnishings. Thoughtful, personalized touches brought the design to life, such as the bespoke stationery suite inspired by the Sonoma Mountain landscape—the delicate lines on the stationery were traced directly from the mountain’s contours. Another standout detail was the ice cream bar, a nod to the couple’s shared hobby of making homemade ice cream. Carly and Nate created custom flavors, which guests enjoyed while choosing their favorite toppings, adding a sweet and personal touch to the celebration. Every element, from the seasonal, family-style menu to the warm and inviting ambiance, was designed to make guests feel appreciated and welcome. This wedding was a testament to the power of intentional design and meaningful details to create an unforgettable experience.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Our proposal was very low-key and intimate — Nate proposed in our kitchen with flowers, an incredible bottle of wine (for us to age and drink on our 10th wedding anniversary), and a beautiful ring before we went out for a celebratory dinner at Saison in San Francisco.

After the ceremony, guests were welcomed with a striking champagne shelf installation, adorned with seasonal fall fruits, nuts, and foliage. This inviting display set the tone for the cocktail hour, blending natural elements with a touch of elegance. Dinner is followed by a thoughtfully curated, seasonal menu served family-style, fostering a sense of intimacy and connection among guests. Every bite reflected the couple’s desire for a warm, communal dining experience.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The florals and decor were a celebration of autumn’s richness, featuring marigold, rust, warm browns, merlot red, and various greens. This lush, organic palette created a warm and inviting ambiance, while candlelight added an intimate glow. Contemporary furnishings with clean lines balanced the abundance of foliage, offering a refined and modern feel perfectly suited to the couple’s aesthetic. Together, these elements created an atmosphere that was both romantic and fresh, making the celebration unforgettable.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The wedding cake was a minimalist masterpiece, featuring the same mountain line detail as the stationery, a nod to the Sonoma Mountain landscape that held special meaning for the couple. Its clean design was beautifully complemented by the surrounding lush florals, creating a stunning focal point that seamlessly tied into the overall aesthetic.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]We wanted our ceremony to be very personalized and true to us. The highlight (and main focus) was our vows, which we wrote ourselves.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

There were so many wedding details that were incredible (the flowers! the photographer! the amazing venue, food and wine!). It meant the world to have our family and friends there, and to be able to create an experience that felt true to us (a particular highlight was sharing our love of cooking by creating an entire homemade ice cream bar). But some of the most special moments were the ones where we were able to step away just the two of us. Whether it was enjoying some apps and champagne while signing our marriage certificate, taking a second to look out at our family and friends before walking into dinner together, doing our ‘first scoop’ of the homemade ice cream for our guests, or when Nate whisked Carly away to the dance floor at the end of the night; the moments where we could enjoy the day together made everything feel extra special thanks to the planning that allowed those moments to happen.

Brendan and I met in Fall 2017 at the University of Arkansas. I was enrolled in an Economics class and was looking for a tutor. My roommate at the time had a family friend (Brendan) who happened to be a tutor for that course. We met several times throughout the semester for tutoring sessions. It didn’t take long for either of us to realize we were both interested in more than the Economics material. After the semester, Brendan asked me to get coffee at Onyx, and the rest is history! Brendan proposed in May 2023. He planned a “picnic” to celebrate graduating from law school. We went ring shopping and designed my ring a few months prior, so I knew the proposal would be soon. At the picnic, he had brought a bottle of wine we bought on our first anniversary in Napa, CA, that we kept saving for a “special occasion.” After the proposal, we celebrated with our families and closest friends!

I immediately fell in love with “Tucker” by Anne Barge the moment I saw it. Before my appointment at La Mariée Boutique, I contacted Elizabeth to confirm they had it in the store. Elizabeth pulled it before I arrived and asked me if I wanted to try it on first or last – I chose last. It didn’t take me long after putting it on that I knew it was my dress. We made a small adjustment to the off-the-shoulder straps, making them into a thicker shoulder strap for the ceremony. It was elegant and timeless – exactly what I envisioned for my wedding day.

Our catering and bartending teams blew us away – as we knew they would! Upon arrival at the ceremony, guests were met with a glass of champagne, then had the choice of several delicious drink options by the Mint 2 Mix team for the remainder of the night. We also included mocktail options. Justin Thompson Catering passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, my favorite being the chicken and waffles. Guests chose between chicken and beef for their entrees. I had mentioned at our tasting that salmon would be my preferred choice, and the JTC team made a special entrée with salmon just for me! Our entree also included pesto risotto and broccoli – two of our favorites!

Silks A Bloom was the first vendor I contacted once we finalized our wedding day! I chose white and green florals paired with glass accents and candles for a clean, timeless look!

Some may call it crazy, but I knew we had to have Shelby Lynn’s Cake Shoppe make our wedding cake, even if we were getting married in another state! We chose a lemon cake with raspberry filling. We wanted something light and summery.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

We had a cello and violin duo play for our ceremony and cocktail hour. As a big Swiftie, our professional music was all Taylor Swift. For cocktail hour, I wanted a mix of classical and pop – think Bridgerton vibes! For our private last dance, we chose the song that Brendan had playing when he proposed – “Let You Love Me” by Jervis Campbell

With the Bride’s Childhood Home as the Perfect Backdrop, the Vision of Southern Elegance Came to Life

With the bride’s childhood home as the perfect backdrop, the vision of southern elegance came to life. The ceremony was effortless and impactful, with a blush drape hanging two stories high on the front porch framing the bride and groom while they said their vows. The reception was an intentional, balanced compilation of the bride’s favorites – pink, stripes, and bows. The wedding planner, Maggie Counce with Counce and Company, designed and brought the vision to life.

For the bride, growing up in a small town meant you had your favorite restaurant you frequented at least once a week. Wood’s place is not only the bride’s favorite but is a local favorite among many in Camden. The southern-style comfort food, topped off with personal special touches from the owners, was a perfect fit for our wedding. Dinner was served in food stations consisting of beef tenderloin, soft shell crab, fried chicken, jumbo shrimp, Mediterranean pasta, and a fruit tower. An open bar was provided for guest to choose their favorite beverage of choice. Dessert was cake with a variety of flavors of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Pattern play was carefully chosen and worked into the design. The bride’s love for stripes was at the center, with a gorgeous blush and white striped linen on the head table as a focal point in the tent. The perfect pink was chosen for all of the bar and stage structure, and they served as the backdrop for the stunning floral final layer – orchids, pink roses, peonies, ranunculus, and more. An Elegant Affair in the North Carolina Mountains at the Barn on New River

The wedding palette included varied shades of green, taupe, cream and touches of lilac. We aimed to create a look that felt organic and seamlessly tied to the natural surroundings.

The Barn on New River in West Jefferson, NC, is surrounded by acres of lush land offering a perfect canvas for a mountain wedding inspired by nature’s beauty. Situated at the base of the western North Carolina mountains, the venue sits alongside a stunning dahlia garden and the winding New River. Eleanor’s family vacation home is nestled on top of the mountain that overlooks the venue, which their family friends own and operate. It was the perfect location for Eleanor and Connor’s mountainside soiree. To help bring their elevated mountain formal vision to life, Eleanor turned to Whitney Bowman Events. “I felt an immediate bond with Eleanor and her mother,” Whitney says. “We are kindred in many ways, and I knew the design and planning process would be joyful and fun with our shared vision for prioritizing guest experience and our love of paper goods and organic florals.” “I was immediately inspired by the vast natural beauty in West Jefferson,” Whitney recalls, “and leaned into textural woods, leather, native florals, and other natural elements in our design. We aimed to create a refined, unique, and modern event seamlessly blended with the beauty of the outdoors. The overall design embodied tranquility and romance, creating an unforgettable celebration steeped in natural charm. Whitney and her team worked with Loly Orozco from the Little Postage House, a boutique branding and stationery company, on their custom save the dates, invitation suite, and day-of items. “We wanted to create a truly unforgettable guest experience that featured a natural elegance, so we worked to weave together nature-inspired elements and sophisticated touches throughout the event. It started with the invitation suite, which served as the first introduction to the couple’s design vision, drawing inspiration from the ferns that grew abundantly in West Jefferson, NC, where the couple had spent meaningful time together”, Loly Orozco says. The suite was meticulously letterpress printed and included several die-cut inserts and a delicate fern pocket that housed all of the invitation pieces. To add a personalized touch, the fern pocket was sealed with a wax emblem featuring the couple’s monogram, ensuring that each guest received an invitation that felt both elegant and uniquely created for the couple. As guests arrived at the barn for cocktail hour, they were greeted by a stunning display of custom-cut, personalized oval wood escort cards. Each card was individually engraved with the guest’s details and cut by the Little Postage House in their studio. The cards were placed on arched walls that featured an intricate wallpaper design that the Little Postage House created to mirror the color scheme and design of the reception linens. As a final touch, delicate lilac tassels hung from the escort cards, enhancing the whimsical and refined atmosphere.

Eleanor and Connor got engaged on a sunset boat cruise in Porto, Portugal. After a long day of travel with flight delays and cancellations, they boarded the boat straight from the airport. It was on this boat that Connor popped the question overlooking the beautiful historic city. The couple then spent the next seven days exploring Portugal together, celebrating their engagement and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

The reception was a seated southern affair with nods to elevated Southern Appalachian cuisine. As a surprise to the bride, a beautiful wooden canoe featured an Aperol spritz bar to welcome guests along their path to the ceremony.

Guests were greeted with a gorgeous floral arbor, and as they progressed through the venue, large floral installations created by Floressence Flowers met them at every turn. Textural installations and table centerpieces featuring stunning Garden Roses, Clematis, Ranunculus, and Sweet Peas brought the space to life, while the bride’s delicate Lily of the Valley bouquet added a timeless touch of elegance. The reception venue itself was transformed with custom-built elements designed to bring the fern motif and natural aesthetics to life. Behind the stage, fluted arched walls were erected, featuring custom and intricate wallpaper designed by Little Postage House. These walls framed the space beautifully, setting the stage for the evening’s festivities. Matching fluted coffee tables with wood and linen couches surrounded the dance floor. The dinner tables were also designed to evoke a sense of natural elegance. Textural velvet, ruffled wooden chargers, and tortoise flatware sat atop the stunning floral and striped linens. Wood and letterpressed menu cards acted as a focal point of each place setting. Each menu was secured with a small leather tie, offering a subtle nod to the couple’s refined taste. No detail was overlooked, even at the custom-painted green bar, where leather monogrammed koozies and matchbooks were placed to give guests an extra piece of keepsake memorabilia while reinforcing the overall design theme. “These small and thoughtful details were at every turn of the event—both functional or decorative—to ensure that the couple’s branding was both personal and polished, offering guests a seamless experience throughout the event”, Loly says.

An Intimate Summer Garden Party at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Richard’s proposal to Courtney was set against the golden sands of Torrey Pines Beach. While visiting Courtney’s family in San Diego, Richard suggested a walk along the shoreline—one of Courtney’s favorite pastimes. Dressed in workout clothes, she didn’t think twice about his suggestion, though his choice of jeans and a sweater might have been a clue of what was to come. As the waves crashed in the background, Richard surprised her with a stunning ring, and when she turned around, she saw a photographer capturing every joyful moment. The surprises didn’t end there—when they returned home, Courtney’s parents, sisters, and best friend were waiting to celebrate their engagement with the sweetest gathering, making the day even more unforgettable. It was the perfect beginning to their forever story.

Seamlessly Blending Polish and Indonesian Influences, Creating a Refined East Meets West Aesthetic

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors, red and white, were chosen as a fun and meaningful nod to their multicultural heritage. With roots in both Poland and Indonesia, these colors beautifully represent the flags of both countries, adding a personal and symbolic touch to the celebration. By incorporating red and white throughout the décor, they celebrated their shared cultural backgrounds while creating a vibrant and cohesive theme for the wedding day.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The wedding design seamlessly blended Polish and Indonesian influences, creating a refined East meets West aesthetic. The elegant combination of orchids and lilies set the tone, complemented by soft Toile de Jouy prints and natural textures like rattan. A mix of classical inspiration and playful, modern touches gave the wedding a timeless yet vibrant feel. The overall vision celebrated the couple’s multicultural heritage, with thoughtful elements that beautifully tied together tradition and contemporary style.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Marcin and Emilva’s proposal story is as enchanting as their love. They decided to escape for a romantic weekend to Mont Saint-Michel, a stunning island village known for its picturesque views. After a cozy dinner, the couple took a peaceful walk towards the castle island as the sun began to set, casting a magical glow over the surroundings. As the sky turned dark, Marcin asked Emilva to take a picture of him with her phone. In that moment, as she reached for her phone, he asked her to turn on the flashlight, since it was already dark, and the streets were without streetlights. When she did, he dropped to one knee and asked the question she had been waiting for. The moment was perfect — intimate, unexpected, and filled with the timeless beauty of Mont Saint-Michel. With the backdrop of the night sky, Emilva said yes, marking the beginning of their next chapter together.

For their ceremony, Roxana and Bem chose Peter Madan as their officiant, as he was able to blend Catholic touches with the Persian ceremony. The groom’s entrance on the song ‘The Matrimony’ gave the tone to the entire wedding: modern, multi-cultural, and family-oriented. Ceremony songs: Do 4 Love (Bride entranc,e) Ceremony songs: The Matrimony (Groom Entrance), Ceremony songs: Protector (Rumi’s entrance)

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Roxana and Bem always knew they wanted a blended cultural ceremony experience. They decided to hold the Nigerian ceremony during the welcome dinner with a focus on merriment and symbolism. During this ceremony, Roxana donned the traditional Nigerian Tiv tribal colors of black and white and ‘reintroduced’ herself to Bem and his family.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Roxana had always wanted to incorporate the Persian ceremony into the overall ceremony for her wedding. She worked with her mother, NE Design, and Simin Events to bring the vision of the ‘Sofreh Aghd’ to life. Each element on the spread had a special meaning that supported the success and everlasting marriage of souls. The ceremony spread was laid out before the guests, and Roxana’s father explained the meaning and symbolism behind each of the hand-crafted objects. The most special aspect of this ceremony was the grinding of sugar above the bride and groom’s heads to symbolize the adding of sweetness to the couple’s lives.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]Roxana and Bem had the privilege of including their daughter, Rumi, in the celebrations and wanted to make sure that even though she would be too young to remember the occasion, she would be remembered. With the help of Anne Laure, they created a custom cart for Rumi to be rolled down the aisle before the entrance of the Bride. This was one of the highlights of Roxana and Bem’s day. [/field]
