There isn’t a thing I don’t love about this wedding. Not one single thing. The images by the amazing Carla Ten Eyck Photography – love. The floral design by Datura, A Modern Garden – love. The adorable bride and groom – really love. You see where I am going here. Picking images to feature was just too hard so be sure to devour each and every one in the gallery.

Our story begins in the tiny town of Falls Village, Connecticut, where a fateful convergence of philosophy, a chilly November night, a bonfire, and shooting stars paved a moonlit path to our humble beginnings.  Both of us had participated separately in a Jewish organic farming program but we didn’t meet until the program’s reunion in November 2005.  At the time, Jenna was living in San Francisco, while Aaron was in Columbus, Ohio, so from the West Coast and the Heartland, we both made the journey to Falls Village for the Reunion, where we spent three days hiking, learning, planting, and eating, and somewhere in the midst of it all we met and, under a star-studded sky by the glow of a bonfire, we fell in love.

However, the weekend was but a weekend, and both of us had lives in different terrains and time zones to return to. At the end of the reunion, we set off on our different paths without a clear understanding of what had just happened.  Forty-eight hours later and worlds away, Jenna wrote a first email to Aaron.  And in the four days following, we exchanged over twenty-three pages of emails.  (Yes, we counted).  Then, on the fifth day, we made the jump to telephone, and, we proceeded to have a four-hour long conversation in which we talked about so many different things that neither of us can remember anything we discussed. But both our lives had been altered, and although the distance and time difference might not have been the most convenient barrier to overcome, we had already fallen head-over-heels too far down the rabbit hole to turn back. Since then, we’ve both moved several times but the emails, phone calls, and our relationship have remained integral aspects of both our daily lives.  Finally, in September 2009, Jenna moved to Boston, where we both currently reside, for the first time in four years, together.  We proposed to each other with two rings and another starry night in February 2009, and we’ve been envisioning our future together ever since.

We got married at the very beginning of October after a year and a half of dreaming up the details of what would make a perfect beginning to the rest of our lives together.  We wanted a day full of profound meaning and thoughts on love, life, and partnership…but  we also wanted people to come and just have fun with us and celebrate the love of family and friendship, the feeling of being alive, and the joy of laughter.  To us, this meant keeping things as intimate as possible, even with having around 150 guests, and honoring our roots – our respect for the environment and love of the outdoors.  So, we kept our wedding party limited to our immediate families; we skipped big introductions, a receiving line, and a first dance entrance in favor of all-inclusive Jewish dancing, complete with some bluegrass and country tunes thrown in for good measure; we had people sit at banquet tables (so much easier to converse!); and our fantastic caterer helped us plan a dinner to be served “family-style” so people would get to know each other and relax over what hopefully felt like a big family dinner.

Also, we involved people as much as possible in ways that would honor their talents and their relationships to us.  A friend of ours crafted our chuppah out of our old clothing – a literal interweaving of our lives together.  Another friend of ours did the calligraphy on our escort cards and stamped them with the table letters.  Family members recited our “Sheva Brachot” during the ceremony.  And a few people even gave us little performances during the reception.

Furthermore, in an effort to support our local farmers and food system, as well as reduce unnecessary waste, rather than strictly flower-based centerpieces, we asked our amazing florist to create centerpieces made out of local fruits, vegetables, and herbs, and construct them in a way that would allow people to pick from and eat the centerpieces throughout the reception – by the end of the night, people had taken apples, pears, mushrooms, and gourds from the centerpieces, and we still had enough left over to make a big batch of applesauce to keep our wedding sweetness going after the day itself was over.  Also, in honor of our autumnal festival, instead of a big formal cake, we served pies and hot chocolate (from Taza Chocolate, an awesome local chocolate company that we know and love) for dessert.

All in all, it felt like a group effort and a real festival of love – exactly what we hoped for.  Each of our vendors was incredibly fun to work with and they all contributed to making our day everything that we wanted it to be and more.  By the end of the day, both of us felt filled to the brim with joy and excitement for a beautiful future together, and we feel so lucky that our official life together began in this way.

Mill Valley Wedding by Sean Flanigan

This is one of those weddings that is just plain cool. A cool couple (seriously way cooler than I will ever be), a cool approach to design, a super cool style. But to be honest, it wasn’t the cool factor, which translates to insanely gorgeous factor, that totally got me. It was the photographs. I had SUCH a hard time choosing from the 217 images that Sean Flanigan sent our way because each and every image was special and could totally capture my attention for hours. So although I hope that you’ll spend some time devouring this wedding story, I also hope that you’ll carve out a cup of coffee or two for the gallery. It’s just that good.

Once we found our hidden estate in Milly Valley, the wedding’s style seemed to fall into place. I am incredibly lucky to have a talented husband who was able to turn all my ideas into reality. He created our wedding logo and incorporated it into all aspects of our wedding from our invitation suite he created to our desserts, everything was branded with our love! We have custom made pine boxes engraved with our logo for our centerpieces- I couldn’t have loved these more, and they are great storage boxes for everyone who took one home. Keeping with our keys in our logo, we bought lots of vintage keys off ebay and tied catalog tags stamped with our logo tied with twin as our escort cards. I also tied keys around glass bottles that were on the tables for water and around terrariums I made from apothecary jars and succulents. My husband and I made all the paper goods from ideas for wedding blogs. In lieu of a guest book we had a photo wall my husband made with a tripod set up with instructions to leave a note on the chalkboard then snap away. We had a traditional Persian ceremony. I love the idea that I got married the same way my sister, mother, and grandmother did. As tradition, I had four of my closest friends holding fabric over our heads while married women came up during the ceremony and ground sugar over our heads to pass sweetness on to us.

The day wasn’t possible without our sweet as can be friends and family. To keep things personal and keep down cost, we turned to friends when we could. We borrowed what we could and celebrated our friends’ talents to have them be a part of our special day and create a personal wedding. Our table runners were made by a friend my sister created our ceremony set up,my mother-in-law sewed pennants for us, our menu was written out by another friend, our dj was our friend, our set up and clean up crew were our friends/family. And all those AMAZING dessert, yeah our friends made them (100% vegan!)! What we couldn’t do we outsourced to some beyond amazing vendors. When it comes to throwing at party at this scale, you’re going to be spending some cash, so why not use that money to support people in your community, that are awesome and you want to support. Number one for me was the pictures, if you feel that way too, splurge if you need to, cause its SO worth it. And work with people you like. You have to see them on your wedding day, spend moments of your special day you have been planning for so long- you want awesome people around you. We were so lucky to have that. Our photographer was so much fun, it is so important you find someone you mesh with. For all the planning and details, I was relaxed on the flowers. I knew when I picked studio choo, it was going to be amazing, so I told the ladies what I liked, and gave them free reign, and I was happy beyond words.

While it was hard blending traditional family views with our non-traditional tastes, I am happy to made the effort to blend the two. It may not have been a traditional perfect wedding (we had no wedding cake cutting!), it was our perfect wedding.

Rustic Canadian Wedding by One Fine Day

There is something so easy and simple about this next wedding sent to us by One Fine Day. Everything seems to have been placed together so effortlessly, so organically. It is as if all of the pretty jars, all of the flowers, even the candles have always been this way…just waiting for this very wedding to make their debut. Mango Studios was on hand to capture every single inch of gorgeous from the lovely couple to the pretty Canadian backdrop and we are going absolutely bananas over it. You can see the rest of this fantabulous day here.

see it all here!

Alex proposed on Christmas night after getting my parents’ blessing (what a gentleman!). I can’t say I was terribly surprised considering we absolutely cannot keep secrets from each other and also considering I picked out the antique (1935) post-art deco engagement ring. It was a simple and perfect proposal in my old bedroom at my parents’ farm. He had lit the room with beeswax candles and asked me to be his wife as the rain came softly down on the tin roof above. Too dreamy! We had quite an easy and stress-free planning process for the next 10 months. I did all of the planning with my right-hand woman, my Mom, and it was such an amazing bonding experience for us. Alex and I spent the months leading up to the wedding antiquing, wood-chopping, sanding, painting, chalking, and planning the day of our dreams. I styled the entire wedding with the help of borrowed antiques and linens (not to mention the gorgeous altar frames) from various family friends. I had difficulty putting the “feeling” of the day into words when people asked me what my theme was: I didn’t want the wedding to feel contrived. When it came down to it, I realized it was Woodsy Romantic that I was aiming for and I can happily say that October 16th, 2010 turned out to be just that.

The fall weather was crisp and sparkling with late afternoon sun. Alex and I did a reveal prior to the ceremony as our family pictures took place beforehand and for the both of us, this moment in the courtyard was single-handedly the most magical and amazing moment of our lives. Truly out of the movies and/or every fairytale you’ve ever read! The ceremony itself was also very emotional. I think we had the whole room in tears! The reception was filled with so much love and warmth from our families and close friends and we are so happy to have gone with a very intimate setting. We’re not a couple who like to make airs or appearances, or who relish the spotlight and considering this, we felt as though everyone was there for the same reason: to celebrate our love but also to celebrate love and its many wonders in general. The overriding sentiment of the day was TRUE LOVE and both Alex and I are living, breathing examples of this myth come to life.

Fourth of July Wedding From Don Mears Photography

Today’s bride has such a fantastic flair! Makes all the difference … to be confidant … to be happy … to have the time of your life! From Don Mears Photography ~ Leah and Dimitri’s Fourth of July wedding in Richmond, Virginia!

Leah and Dimitri were one of our most memorable couples of 2010. Minutes into our first phone conversation, we could already tell how dynamic and fun Leah and Dimitri were.

Leah and Dimitri are both talented performers of varied arts. Leah is a singer, dancer and actress who, from even the first phone call exhibited a very happy and cheerful disposition. Dimitri is a well-traveled and respected tenor and happened to be performing opera in Germany while the wedding planning was going on stateside.

Leah and Dimitri met in the summer of 2006 while working in Santa Fe, New Mexico. While walking towards each other on a one way street in the downtown plaza, she saved his life by pulling him out of the way of oncoming traffic behind him. The rest is history.

Flash forward to summer, we began to plan for their wedding weekend. They married during the July 4th weekend at the Mansion and as each detail was revealed during the planning, our excitement grew. A horse drawn carriage for Leah’s entrance, a beautiful hand-drawn Ketubah by celebrated visual artist Michael Downs, a mixture of ceremony traditions to incorporate their combined Greek/Jewish heritages; these were just a few of the wonderful little details that we were to experience. The wedding day itself brought even more surprises.

Two of their also-talented friends sang a beautiful piece during the ceremony. From Leah’s mother’s love of hats sprung a minor theme and there were many hats of elegant and fun design worn and hung carefully about the reception area (Mrs. Edwards prefers hats from Ignatius Hats).

It was a significant and meaningful day for all those in attendance- especially the bride and groom! –Don Mears Photography

Southern California Wedding by Jac Photography

The minute I laid eyes on the ridiculously adorable flower girls in this next wedding…I knew we had a keeper. Then I saw the stunning bride, the fresh totally laid back style, the Southern California vibe done so so right. And well, it was a no brainer. Dawn and Joe tied the knot in one of the most thoughtfully designed, lovingly crafted weddings I’ve ever seen…hand picking vendors that they not only respected, but that meshed with their own unique personalities. A quality that is so important in designing a perfect wedding, that is all to often overlooked. Photographed to perfection by JAC Photography, this wedding will make you smile from ear to ear. We had been engaged a little over two years by the time the big day finally arrived. Life had presented quiet a few challenges over the course of those two years…financial struggles, a minor heart surgery for me, medical issues for one of our sweet pups. We tried to approach each challenge with strength and grace and our relationship grew stronger for it. Although, our plans changed (the wedding originally was scheduled for Hawaii) in the end it was exactly how it should be. A perfect day and a true reflection of Joe and I as a couple.

We are both quintessential California beach kids and wanted our wedding day to reflect that laid back vibe. My design aesthetic was organic beach chic. I am a photographer but also have a background in event and interior design. Needless to say, I got swept away in all the wonderful little details that go into planning a wedding. My inspiration for our color palate came from the beaches that we grew up exploring, both here in southern California and on the islands of Maui and Oahu. Agave green, pale turquoise, aloe, yellow and warm sand wove a beautiful story through florals, paper goods, wedding attire and even the candy at “the bar”!

Since I am a photographer myself, choosing one to shoot our own wedding was a daunting task. I had certain things I would not budge on…they had to shoot film and they needed to approach the day naturally. I stumbled upon Jac Photography one morning when I was doing my daily wedding blog reading (style me pretty being one of my favorites!) They were featured on a blog and I remember the way I felt when I viewed their images…breathtaking! And guess what? They shot film! I promptly got in touch and we scheduled a meeting. Joe and I can both be a bit shy in front of the camera. Chris and Jamie put us both at ease. It was as though we had two life long friends, who just happened to be amazing photographers, shooting our special day! And, of course, our pictures rocked!

My mother is an amazing artist so Joe and I enlisted her help with our wedding stationery. I had gotten a Valentine’s day card for Joe with two kissing fish which became the inspiration for our little wedding logo. Of course, my mothers fishes far surpassed those on the card. She did a free hand sketch and then scanned to her computer and used her art program to finish the process. I purchased all the card stock at Paper Source and used a professional for printing. We printed and assembled all the programs ourselves again with my Mom’s fabulous artwork.

Choosing attire for our wedding party was so much fun. I had four bridesmaids, Joe had four groomsmen and we had…..wait for it…… NINE flower girls! I have a slight addiction to J. Crew so it was only natural that they be my source for the girls dresses. The bridesmaids wore a cotton dress in a warm sand color from the ‘honeymoon department’. I handmade necklaces for each of them. Turquoise and jade stones with an abalone shell accent. The flower girls tiered cotton chiffon dresses were part of the children’s spring collection and I made each of them a little bracelet of turquoise beads and a shell cut in the shape of a star. I loved, loved, loved the flower girl dresses possibly more than my own gown. They were so darn cute!

As for the groomsmen, they wore khaki pants and a cool textured long sleeve white shirt. The best part for them, Rainbow sandals on their feet, Joe’s gift to them. A nod to our local San Clemente roots. Joe wore a khaki suit with a fantastic Hugo Boss tie and Rainbow Sandals, of course! I wore a beautiful raw silk ruched gown custom made for me by a local San Diego designer. It had a casual elegance about it and fit me like a glove! Love! My extremely talented friend Jessica of Lovestruck make-up artistry made me look beautiful and equally talented friend and hairstylist, Carrie did my fabulous casual, beach girl bun.

Our ceremony location, Pines Park in Capistrano Beach, was the perfect spot. A beautiful park on the bluff overlooking the ocean in Orange County that Joe and I both spent lots of time as children.

I love, love, love flowers and they were a huge part of our wedding design. I wanted them to have an organic, eclectic feel. At our first meeting with Kristen from The Treasured Petal, I told her that I wanted to use succulents and orchids in the arrangements and incorporate some coral. She not only got it, but she executed my floral vision to perfection. The aisle was lined with pieces of driftwood and rocks that Joe and I collected from the beach. Succulents, orchids and pieces of coral were sporadically tucked amongst the driftwood. Bamboo offering bowls filled with loose orchids atop a large palm leaf were placed at the end of each row. Guests showered us with orchids and well wishes as we made our way down the aisle. Long orchid leis with a white starfish at the end of each strand hung from the branches of the tree surrounding our wonderful driftwood cross.

We wanted the reception to feel as though we were having an intimate gathering in our backyard with good friends, yummy food and awesome music. We chose Salt Creek Grille in Monarch Beach, one of our fav restaurants for its outdoor terrace and casual yet lovely setting. We had a cocktail reception with a full bar and lots of yummy hordourvers- beef sliders, tuna wontons, mini caprese sandwiches were just a few of the mouth watering nibbles. White leather lounge furniture with coffee tables that we purchased from Ikea were surrounded by four cabana tables and a dance floor.

Planning the wedding inspired me to venture back into the event design industry. I have started a small boutique company, Kissing Fish Designs and thanks to family and friends, already have a few events under my belt.

Georgia Wedding by Gresham Photography

Style Me Pretty is getting a big ol’ dose of rustic charm this morning and it comes in the form of a boot clad bride (oh how we love that). We happen to be strong believers in wearing boots for every occasion – especially at a pretty farm wedding in Georgia. It just sort of fits the bill, don’t you think? Gresham Photography is to be thanked for capturing so many pretty pictures and don’t forget there is even more to oh and ah over in the gallery. So grab a cup of coffee and go peruse your hearts out.

Jessica and Mark’s wedding had everything. From a ridiculously in love couple, to gorgeous hand-made details, from some heartfelt emotional moments, to one of the best laughs you’ve ever heard … this past weekend goes down as one of Stacey and my favorite weddings to date for SO many reasons. The weekend’s festivities all happened at the stunning Farmhouse Inn at Hundred Acre Farm, just outside of Madison, Ga. And from the moment we pulled up to the grounds, we were greeted by beautiful scenery, and Jessica’s meticulous attention to details.

Jessica and Mark’s wedding day had such an organic, natural feel to it. From the gorgeous florals put together by the talented ladies at Moss Floral Events, to the delicious food and desserts cooked up by Hallie Jane’s Catering and Events. Jessica put her own touch on everything … including the invites, ceremony programs, place cards, and super-delicious brownie mix favors! Her talent for design and eye for everything beautiful was all over the place.

Elysium Productions ~ A Magical Biltmore Estate Wedding

When we first review a wedding, adjectives begin bubbling about in our minds. This wedding ~ Catherine and Andrew’s Biltmore Estate wedding, just felt magical. How ironic, was it that during their vows, Catherine said, “You brought magic to my life … we will live lives full of love and laughter that will make people stare!”

From the artists who are Woodward and Rick Photographers and Elysium Productions, we share a little piece of this magic with you today!

Our thanks to Woodward and Rick for a peek into Catherine & Andrew’s dreamy wedding! And our sincere congratulations to this lovely couple!

You can see their whole wedding gallery here in the SMP Photo Gallery and here on Woodward and Rick’s blog!

And now ~ the pièce de résistance from the ever-amazing Elysium Productions … Catherine and Andrew’s wedding film …

Catherine & Andrew from Elysium Productions on Vimeo.

From the beautiful bride, Catherine …
We’re not quite sure when we first met. Maybe 1994, maybe 1995, somewhere within the walls of Biltmore United Methodist Church in Asheville, North Carolina. Although we were casual friends growing up, we made it official in 2003. Within a few weeks, we both knew it was a perfect fit. Our relationship strengthened throughout college as we dealt with new opportunities and challenges, namely the intense rivalry of our alma maters. We’re still working on that. We explored Europe together during our 2007 semester abroad in Florence, Italy. Although there wasn’t a question that we’d spend our lives together, our time abroad really sealed the deal. Italy is pretty romantic, you know. As we graduated and moved to different states, we learned the value of communication, unlimited wireless plans and Delta SkyMiles! Andrew proposed at Veritas winery in Virginia, a thoughtful combination of the Blue Ridge mountains we grew up around and the wine culture we’d grown to adore in Italy.

Since we met in Asheville, getting married anywhere else just wouldn’t do. We looked at several outdoor venues before settling on the Lioncrest on The Biltmore Estate. The beauty of the Estate grounds combined with the know-how and experience of their staff was enough to push us over the edge. Plus, we thought our out-of-town guests would enjoy an event at a location that is so quintessentially Asheville! It was a great decision.

I’m really into DIY everything, so I was excited to dive into the planning and creating. Organizing, dreaming and designing the visual experience of our wedding became a part-time job I was elated to have, and without a wedding planner or coordinator, it was quite the task! The Lioncrest provided great space to work with and we were really inspired by the gorgeous green trees that framed the veranda where the ceremony and reception were held. We wanted to amplify the natural beauty of the setting with amazing flowers and decor. Hiring Stacey Brown of The Bloom Room was a no-brainer. She is truly a visionary and such a joy to work with! Since we kept the palette pretty neutral with champagne bridesmaids dresses and ivory groomsmen accessories, I really wanted color to be introduced in the flowers. Poppy is my favorite color, so we started there and decided on a range of raspberries, pinks, reds and peach colors. Stacey transformed the space into a lush, ethereal garden. It was truly exquisite.

We also wanted to incorporate a lot of personal touches in our big day, starting with choosing the day itself! We were married on August 21st. August 20th is Andrew’s parents’ anniversary, the 21st is his grandmother’s birthday and the 22nd is my grandparents’ anniversary. Since the 21st was bookended by two other important wedding anniversaries, it seemed like the perfect day for us. Both my mother and her father are Methodist ministers, so we definitely had our choice of special officiants! We decided to let my mom be a mother-of-the-bride and we asked my grandfather to marry us. We were so honored that he agreed and he was elated as well, especially since he officiated at my parents’ wedding nearly thirty years ago. We both have an incredible respect for my grandparents’ marriage, and his homily will always be one of our favorite memories of our wedding.

Since we decided on an outdoor/indoor venue, we wanted to create an altar space like one you might find in a traditional church setting. My paternal grandfather, an architect, passed away two years ago, leaving his heart pine workbench to my dad. His affinity for art and design was always an inspiration to me, and using the workbench as our altar table was a great way to include him in our wedding celebration. Andrew tracked down recovered barn wood and made the gorgeous and rustic cross that topped the altar table. He did an amazing job! As for some of the other details and choices, we chose to write our own vows in addition to reading the traditional vows. This was a hit with our guests and we are so glad that we chose to communicate our love in this way. It was also smart to practice a few times earlier that week, as I would have been a complete mess if I’d heard his vows for the first time during the ceremony!

We selected Woodward + Rick Photographers and Elysium Productions to capture our day, and both did an incredible job. People always say that videography is a crucial component of a wedding celebration, and we could not be happier with what Elysium delivered. It is amazing to relive the special day through both the photography and videography!

For future brides, my advice is to enjoy the process. The planning might be stressful, but it’s so rewarding to see everything come together and have your guests enjoy the celebration. Also, remember the final result: being married to your best friend! It was pouring rain throughout our entire wedding day and reworking some of the details was a bit overwhelming. Although I was concerned that our guests would drown in the summer storm, I eventually came to terms with the wet weather. The rain stopped five minutes before I walked down the aisle, the mist lifted behind the altar and the space looked beautiful. It will all work out, so savor the moments and enjoy everything. We’ve never felt more surrounded by love and we are so grateful to everyone for making it perfect.

Lauren and Andreas wanted an intimate ceremony at the historic Tabard Inn to have a relaxed, vintage glamour feel. Lauren’s dress was an evening gown she purchased at Nordstrom, off the rack and on sale. She wore vintage jewelry and carried a gorgeous vintage beaded bag. The men wore grey suits with a pop of Teal for a little whimsy, and the bridesmaids dresses were very 1930’s in feel from Anthropologie. The gorgeous flowers were from Sidra Forman, and of course the venue and catering was from The Tabard Inn. Photography and invitations were by me, Jubilee Photography and Milkmaid Press. The invitations were created from a painting by Lauren’s Grandmother for an extra sentimental touch.

Lindsey and Andrew’s beautiful Labor Day weekend, black tie wedding at the amazing Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia, PA. They had their “reveal meeting” in the park on Rittenhouse Square, across from the hotel. It was a beautiful backdrop for their formal photos. The classic color scheme of pink and black was used in their invitations and followed through to the programs, menus, place cards and chair signs. The florals were a mix of different shades of pink and mixed with soft greens. All of the centerpieces were different heights and mixed with the black candelabras and black chivari chairs, really made the florals stand out. The ballroom itself was up-lit in pink and finished off the room. Lindsey and Andrew chose a very simple style for their cake but it was absolutely stunning.

Miami Wedding by Mi Amore Foto

This wedding is just so sweet and intimate it melted my heart immediately. That and the fact the bridesmaids wore some amazing shoes perfect for the Miami setting (I am a huge sucker for shoes). Shoes aside, this wedding is full of details so fabulous you won’t believe they are DIY, like the hundreds of beads the bride sewed BY HAND to make her headpiece. True Story. For even more heart melting images be sure to check out the gallery.

I have known my now husband Aaron almost my entire life. When we first got engaged we knew right away that we did not want to throw a grand event, we wanted to throw an intimate celebration. We surrounded ourselves with only 35 close friends and family. Our venue was amazing. It was right on the water. The view of the ocean went on forever. It was breath taking. Megan from the Grove Isle Resort and Spa was wonderful to work with. We told her our budget, guest count, and what we wanted. She worked miracles with that. I would advise other brides to do the same and work with your venue. Our luckiest find for our wedding was Shannon Mathis our photographer. We really lucked out with her. She was so incredible and amazing to work with. Her pictures are so natural and romantic. I love that she also captured all the little details that we worked so hard on. She was so easy and fun to work with and so creative.

We only started planning our October wedding in June. With only four months to plan I knew right way there would be a lot late of night DIY projects. I absolutely love personal touches and details. My MOH especially is a detail fanatic. I spend hours with her throwing ideas back and forth, needless to say we came up with so many crafts in so little time. With her help we made the tissue paper pomanders, and the petal cones from an amazing pressed floral paper from which I also made the place cards. Her mom made the table runner. I also made the invitations and the venue matched the menu to the invitations. The project that took the longest was my headband. It took about a week or so. Each bead had to sewn by hand and there were hundreds of beads. My favorite project was our ring book. I didn’t want the typical ring pillow. I found the idea on a wedding blog and immediately told my fiancé about it; he actually got very excited about and wanted to be part of the project. It was so much fun taking him to the craft store and planning this project. We picked Wuthering Heights because it is my favorite book; I even used a quote from it in my vows. The most special thing I made was my brooch for my bouquet. I had my favorite picture of my father on one side and my grandparents on another. I also hung my sister’s bracelet on the brooch. This was my way of having them close to me on that special day. Part of why we chose 10.10.10 was also because it was my grandmothers birthday.

I walked down the aisle to “Here comes the sun” it was the perfect song for us. As soon as I saw Aaron I had a hard time trying not to cry….I was just so overjoyed! It was funny because he kept whispering to me “Can I kiss you yet!” Our officiant was incredible! Reverend Calderon knew exactly what we wanted. He made our ceremony very special; almost poetic. He made us laugh and cry.I think one of the most memorable and emotional parts of the day was after the ceremony. We presented my daughter Sophie with a special medallion just for her. She was not expecting this so she got very emotional with tears of joy and surprise. I don’t think there was one dry eye anywhere including the catering staff.

We loved that our wedding was so small and personal. Everyone kept telling us that they felt they we part of something so private and special that day and truly felt that they shared in our love for each other. Our wedding day was a celebration of a lifelong commitment for each other surrounded by all of our loved ones.

Brooklyn Factory Wedding by DM Events

New York weddings are some of my favorites. They always have that citified hip, uberly cool way about them and this next wedding is the perfect example. The lovely ladies at DM Events thought of every last detail and decked out this old warehouse turned restaurant in Brooklyn into a thing of beauty. And the icing on the cake? The prettiest of pretty cupcakes. Be sure to stop by the gallery for even more city dreaming captured by Mantas Wright Photography.

Jenny and Dave selected an amazing venue, My Moon in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Once an abandoned factory, it is a truly spectacular location, with interesting architecture and artwork everywhere you look, not to mention their delicious Middle Eastern fare! Jenny bought a dress she loved, ordered a yummy cookie/cupcake bar from One Girl Cookies, and knew she wanted to fill the reception room with bright colors – beyond that, they trusted us to fill in the blanks, without breaking the bank! The challenge of designing Jenny and Dave’s wedding was to balance the need to use enough color to fill the large space without competing with the amazing décor of the venue. We chose to use bud vases for a number of reasons. First, they allowed us to disperse color throughout the room without it becoming overpowering in any one area. Second, dispersing buds, rather than arrangements of flowers, really kept costs down. And finally, the clear glass of the vases did not complete with the textures of the venue including brink, wrought iron, and heavy wood, while the varied shape of the vases still kept them interesting!

The main room of the venue was filled with oversized long wooden tables, lined with bud vases of pink and orange dahlias, pink zineas, and yellow craspedias. The zineas and dahlias were selected not just for the intensity of their color but also for their large size, allowing us to use only 1-2 buds per vessel – a huge cost savings!!!! In keeping with the Turkish “cavern” feel of the venue, we put bronze colored mercury votives in just about every nook and cranny we could find! Even the bar helped to provide color as it was lined with canisters of brightly colored red and yellow sangria… this certainly promoted the “fun” wedding Jenny and Dave wanted to create!

My Moon has a beautiful deck anchored by a recycle steel wall overflowing with greenery, making it the perfect spot for an intimate ceremony. Keeping with the organic, outdoor feel, the aisle was lined with colorful potted plants from the venue. Just as the ceremony was ending and the sun was setting, guests moved to an outdoor lounge for cocktails, transporting them from a Williamsburg evening to an Arabian night. To complete the transformation, sheers of deep red and bright orange were draped over the tables and lanterns and large pillows were scattered around the space. After dinner, guests returned to the lounge for more cocktails and cigars! In an urban jungle like New York City it was a pleasure to create a Middle Eastern escape for Jenny and Dave and provide them with their one wedding wish: to celebrate their love with family and friends.

Milwaukee Wedding by m three studio

This next little gem from m three studio is wildly romantic.  Our inner girly girls are just squealing with glee over all that rosy goodness.  Feminine touches may abound throughout this glorious, French-inspired fete but these party-goers were not opposed to rolling up their sleeves for a good ol’ friendly lawn bowling competition!  There is even more sweet inspiration in the full gallery!

Click here to see more inspiration in the full gallery!

After Andy proposed in the night snow outside of Joan of Arc Chapel at Marquette University (where we were both students at the time), we really waffled on what our collective vision was for our wedding.  And since I was starting medical school in the fall, we wanted to get the planning underway and as close to finished as possible before then.  We have a strong attachment to Milwaukee, both being from the area and attending Marquette so we knew we wanted to get married in the city.  We also wanted to be able to have the ceremony and reception in the same place.  We settled on Lake Park Bistro, one of Milwaukee’s finest restaurants since we are both total foodies and the staircase was the most dramatic and beautiful location we could find for an outdoor ceremony.  The idea for a day wedding certainly was not mine (I’m more of a night-owl); however, Andy convinced me that having a day wedding with a lunch reception would leave time for us to spend time later in the evening with our friends who were coming into town for the event.

The most important thing for me after the location and the food was photography.  We wanted someone who would capture the day in story form without being unnatural and posed.  The flowers were also really important to me, as my mom has always been into gardening.  Carrie at Petals put up with all of my crazy visions and times I changed my mind and put together the most beautiful rosy creations!  Andy was more concerned with the cake and Karen from The Cake Lady did not disappoint with a lavender-flavored cake filled with vanilla buttercream, raspberry preserves, and lemon curd.  It was to die for!  And the lawn bowling – Andy saw the lawn bowling pitch and simply asked Lindsay, the catering director for Lake Park Bistro, on a whim if we could have lawn bowling instead of dancing.  When she said yes, he really ran with the idea and contacted the Milwaukee Lawn Bowls Club – they even offered to come out and teach our guests how to play!!  Let me tell you – it was pretty fantastic to see the people we love the most dressed up, in the midst of a rousing match of lawn bowling, all in celebration of the love that Andy and I share.

Our wedding day was everything we could have dreamed of and more.  We never could have predicted receiving a watermelon as part of the toast that the maid of honor, Megan, gave in reference to our first “date” – walking around downtown Milwaukee freshman year of college with a watermelon from the Milwaukee Public Market.  We never could have predicted the dog that greeted Laura during the wedding party photos with some adorable muddy pawprint accents for her dress.  We never could have predicted the minister announcing the wrong last name at the end of the ceremony and the hilarity that would ensue when Andy’s mom corrected him loudly from the front row.  And I think I will forever tease my dad for being the one to nearly fall down the stairs as he walked me down the aisle after he had made such a big deal about me being the clumsy one in the weeks leading up to the big day.  My point is, even with all of the planning and details we worked so hard on, the real things I will never forget are the unique moments that our friends and family brought to the day and the love that they shared with us.

Moroccan Inspired Day After Shoot From Kate Triano

Combine a blissfully beautiful bride and groom, amazing flowers from Holly Chapple and some delightful images from Kate Triano and you have one really awesome day after shoot!

Event Design by My Simple Details.

From their fantastic photographer, Kate Triano
Tram and Tiko were recently married and love traveling the world. They wanted an exotic shoot and love vibrant colors. Tram’s super cute flat beaded sandals, her flowy layered dress and Tiko’s vibrant blue and green tie started the inspiration and a fun yet relaxed Moroccan theme emerged. Tiko wore a navy vest, which made the boutonniere by Holly Chapple Flowers pop. The boutonniere consisted of blue thistle, orange crocosmia, and hot pink celosia. Holly Chapple left the stems long for a funky look. The boutonniere was wrapped in a vibrant teal Indian silk and gold wire. Tram’s luscious bouquet made of bunches of hot pink gloriosa lilies, orange protea, fuchsia orchids, blue thistle, and orange crocosmia, was wrapped with the teal, gold, and fuchsia silk from India and topped off with a decorative brass ring.

Aged metal lanterns and birdcages were strung by satin ribbon in various vivid colors, and one had the letters T & T affixed to the glass. Similar lanterns could be hung over guest’s tables to indicate the table number or even list guest’s names that are seated at the particular table. Blankets, pillows, and runners, were handmade of Indian silk in saturated shades of fuchsia, teal, blue, orange, with gold details, and layered to create a lush feel.
A low antique worm wood table was used to form a magical lounge area with wine, champagne, tea, and fruits to enjoy, including figs, oranges, star fruit, sugarplums, peaches, and kiwis. A similar setup could be a unique cocktail space or seating for guests to relax and enjoy a non-traditional ceremony.

An antique brass teapot and Moroccan platter was used to display and serve the exotic fruit and tea. Small metal and glass containers were filled with similar flower from the bouquet and used to add extra color to the table. They were placed between large glass candleholders that were covered in thin green silk with gold detail and another metal birdcage. All of these pieces were placed on hree custom silk runners that were layered to create a dynamic look. Blue and gold detailed glass tumblers were then used as both votive holders and for wine. Tram wore amber and gold chandelier earrings and delicate gold bangles from Katie Costello Jewelry. Other jewelry shown, include wood bangles, gold earring from Kipepeo, and gold earrings with peridots by Amrita Singh.

Tiko and Tram were the lucky winner’s of Kate Triano’s 2010 wedding contest! You can see the wedding of this super-cute couple on Holly Chapple’s blog and their engagement shoot on Kate’s blog! Plus ~ their whole day-after shoot right here in the SMP Photo Gallery!!

Michigan Wedding by Bryan and Mae

Wednesdays are quickly becoming my favorite day of the week solely due to the fact it means one fabulous wedding after another here at Style Me Pretty – so get ready to reconnect with your refresh button today because boy do we have some beauties coming your way. First up is an absolutely adorable, personality filled wedding captured by Bryan and Mae. Let me just put it this way, you know when each member of the bridal party brings along their own tandem bicycle it’s a wedding not to be missed, and of course you won’t have to miss a thing when you check out the gallery.

Matthew and I are both relatively simple people who enjoy relatively simple things. We love the color purple, we love our friends and family, we love music, and we love bicycles. Lots of bicycles. Inevitably, this became our wedding theme that carried over into everything from invitations to decorations.

We decided against doing a “first look” and waited to see each other for the first time when I walked down the aisle. I will never forget this moment – it was overwhelming in the best way imaginable. We were married at the church I grew up in and were blessed to have my grandpa officiate the ceremony. Our talented friends Kate & Jay played an incredibly heartfelt original song during the service. It was our first time hearing it and I was overwhelmed yet again. Our vintage Schwinn Twinn bicycle built for two was used as our getaway ride after the ceremony. Complete with tin cans and “Just Married” sign. I just hiked up my dress and away we went!

A nearby ski lodge provided the pleasantly casual reception setting we had hoped for. One of my favorite moments of the night came during our photo session with the wedding party. The lodge has a large back deck looking up to one of the steepest hills in the area. Everyone had their own bicycle (us with our tandem) as we hiked up the slope. We paused at the top for a couple photographs and then cruised back down to the bottom. The girls in their dresses and the guys in their rolled up trousers. It was so much fun riding around together in the grassy fields and our guests enjoyed watching from below. The rest of the evening was spent on the dance floor – where the bride and groom should be! We were having so much fun we (almost) didn’t want to leave. Our wedding wasn’t about having everything perfectly in place. But in every other way, it was absolutely perfect.

Best Wall Anchors + How to Install Them

As someone who loves a good gallery wall but never quite knows how to properly install one in my home, you can bet your bottom dollar I will be soaking up all the super helpful information Joe Provey sent our way about wall anchors and how to install them. He’s giving us all the dos and don’ts so your gallery wall dreams can become a reality without the fear of them falling on your head (this totally happened to me once, true story).  So listen up pretties, this is good stuff.

From Joe Provey…Hanging objects on the wall requires proper fasteners, installation and know how. What makes it a tricky job at times is the fact that drywall is constructed of lightweight materials and is not designed to support heavy hanging objects. Standard fasteners can easily pull right off the wall and cause damage to it.

Usually, the best way to attach something is by driving a screw into the wall’s underlying wooden framing, made up of studs. Typically studs are spaced 16 inches apart on a wall, but unfortunately they never seem to be where you need to hang something. This is where anchors come in handy.

Anchors may be used in walls and ceilings to hang everything from towel racks and toilet paper dispensers to light fixtures, mirrors and shelving units. Some are designed for hollow applications where there most likely isn’t a convenient stud or beam available; places such as walls and ceilings covered with drywall and hollow-core doors. Here are the best anchors for hanging objects on hollow drywall, plaster walls and ceilings.

WINGED PLASTIC ANCHORS
A big step up from ribbed plastic anchors, winged plastic anchors may be used in drywall or plaster and cost less than metal drywall anchors. Designed to spread their “wings,” they provide more strength than other plastic expansion anchors and are less likely to pull out from the wall.

Winged plastic anchors are best used for: Towel bars, toilet paper holders, heavy picture frames, light fixtures, bulletin boards, smoke alarms, lightweight shelving, and wall-mounted mirrors on plaster walls.

How to Install a Wall Anchor:
1. Press folded wings together and insert into a pre-drilled hole.
2. Then use the supplied pin tool to pop the wings open.
3. The wings should spread open and grip the inside of the wall.

THREADED DRYWALL ANCHORS
The most popular drywall anchor, threaded wall anchors are fast and easy to install. They do not require pre-drilling and are strong enough to hold up to 50 pounds. Available in in metal and plastic, the plastic threaded anchors are best used for drywall and the metal threaded anchors can be used for drywall or plaster.

Threaded drywall anchors are best used for: Closet organizer kits and shelving, heavy picture frames, bulletin boards, smoke alarms, lightweight shelving, light fixtures, wall-mounted mirrors on drywall.

How to Install:
1. Simply drive the threaded anchor into the drywall with a screwdriver or drill-driver. Once fully seated, you’re ready to attach the item with the screw of your choosing.
2. When driven flush to the wall, any appropriately sized screw may be used to fasten the anchor hole.

STRAP TOGGLE ANCHORS
Strap toggle bolts can support heavy fixtures, such as large mirrors, in drywall, plaster and concrete. HiIlman makes a very strong anchor (pictured) that hangs objects up to 80 pounds on drywall and up to 330 pounds in concrete. These types of anchors have some drawbacks, one being that they require a large pilot hole. Also, if you ever need to remove the bolt, the anchor will fall into the wall and you will need to reinstall a new anchor to rehang an object.

Toggle anchors are best used for: Use strap toggles to attach heavy items such as mirrors and shelves to drywall, plaster, concrete block, and brick walls. As well as hanging items from ceilings.

How to Install:
1. Drill hole and push toggle and strap until toggle opens against the interior wall surface.
2. Then push plastic collar to exterior surface and break off plastic straps. Align fixture and secure with supplied bolt.
3. Once inside the wall, the anchor will adhere to wall as bolt is tightened.

Los Angeles Wedding by Meg Perotti

I smell a new trend coming on and it smells like freshly cut grass in the city.  Meg Perotti is the talented shutterbug behind the lens of this nature-infused, modern wedding that is just overflowing with style and romance.  A green, white and gray palette with oodles of soft, romantic touches plays perfectly against the urban backdrop of downtown Los Angeles.  For more organic meets metropolitan inspiration check out the full gallery!

Very shortly after Adam and I were engaged, we started scouting out wedding venues in Los Angeles. From the moment we first saw Cafe Pinot, we knew it was the perfect place for our wedding. We both wanted to be married outside, ideally in an urban setting ( but one that was not cold). This venue offered a beautiful park and garden setting surrounded by tall buildings on almost every side. This became a big part of the inspiration for our wedding decor. Our colors a rich green, white, and gray were inspired by the colors that we fell in love with at the venue — the green of the trees and grass and the gray of the concrete buildings and sidewalks. As the planning evolved, we decided to add hints of blush pink for a feminine touch.

The taller centerpieces on each table featured white and blush colored garden roses (for their soft ruffle effect) and poufs of white hydrangea, contrasted against the shorter centerpieces which contained succulents perched atop gray river rocks.  Our escort card holders were hand cut birch branches which displayed the names of our guests in calligraphy done by the amazing Grace Edmands. For our cake stand we used a 6″ thick wood slice from an actual tree. The cake was decorated simply with olive leaves and garden roses.  We had our table numbers made using white paper embossed with a wood grain pattern.

Since Adam and I both love candy, we thought that candied apples would be the perfect treat to send our guests home with. I came up with the idea to only partially dip the apples so that they looked more organic and rustic (and so the green would show). We had them dipped in caramel and then in white chocolate to match our wedding colors. The amazing staff at Generations of Lee Gelfond Chocolate did such a wonderful job of painstakingly preparing the apples and wrapping each one in a beautiful clear box with a bow and favor tag we provided.

Our wedding day was so special and absolutely wonderful — not only because of the incredible that love Adam and I felt for each other, but because of all of the love and warmth that we were so lucky to be surrounded by. Although it rained on the morning of our wedding, looking back on the day this only added to the romantic and dreamy quality of the day (and the photos!). In the end, our organic romantic wedding (as we like to call it) turned out to be even lovelier than we could have imagined thanks to all of the amazing time and energy our vendors put in to help our vision become a reality.

So are you dying to know what the winning couple did to score such a cool opportunity? Here’s the Blue Nile Ring It. Sing It. entry that scored major props with yours truly and the other judges at Blue Nile

I first met Michaela in the 7th grade on my first day at a new school. I was almost popular at my last school, and I was anticipating similar results this time around. Then I met Michaela. I did my best to put on a worthy show. I caught her attention with a smile. I broke the ice with humor. I enticed her with charm. She was unimpressed. I liked her immediately. I still do. You see, Michaela has personality. She runs 10ks. She can entertain a crowd. She gets excited over clean sheets. She loves festivals. She water skis. She adores kids. She mountain bikes. She eats her vegetables. She snow skis. She travels. She runs triathlons. She can feed the penguins. She whitewater rafts. She hot-air balloons. She studies hard. She runs mini-marathons. She even loves football. A lot. And because of her, we do these things together.

Yes, Michaela has the unique ability to make others better. She is able to do this because she is secure with herself. She tells the truth. She forgives. She works hard. She sticks up for the weak. She challenges the strong. She does the right thing without being told. In short, Michaela’s integrity is unimpeachable. Unsurprisingly, coolness was not in the cards for me that first day of school. Or that year. Or even the years after that. In fact, coolness still eludes me today. But Michaela did not. We became a couple sophomore year of high school. It has been a long time since 7th grade. Thirteen years if you were inclined to count; and through three years of high school, four years of college, and three years of graduate school, I have fully spent half my life with her already. I can’t imagine spending the rest with anyone else. Today, she is a bi-lingual nurse for low-income Latinos in Indianapolis; and I am six weeks short of graduating from Indiana University with a joint J.D. /MBA degree. We are the perfect Blue Nile couple because Michaela is the perfect Blue Nile girl. In addition to having a knockout figure, Michaela has character to spare. She is beautiful, smart, educated, witty, and caring. And I am lucky enough to have her. Irrespective of this contest, I will marry Michaela because she is perfect for me. But if you take a closer look, you will find that she is perfect for you too. Plus, she would look pretty damn good on a Jumbotron.

I mean seriously. The CUTEST. COUPLE. EVER. A huge thank you to the team at Blue Nile for making such an incredible day possible for this adorable pair. We loved being a part of it and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.

Santa Ynez Wedding by Duet Weddings

Aside from being insanely beautiful, the reason that I fell so hard for this next little number is that the couple did what we preach over and over on SMP…they created a wedding brand. A perfect detail that was threaded through each and every element of the day. Actually, they created two brands which is even better. The gorgeous monogram crest and the amazing use of herbs. For me, a wedding brand is that key ingredient that will take your wedding style to another level. It brings a sense of cohesion, of beauty, of defined style to your look in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the design. And if ever there was a glimpse into crafting the perfect branded affair…this wedding, designed by Rebecca Stone at Duet Weddings, would be it. Click here to see even more!

When David proposed to me on the beach at my parent’s summer cottage on Lake Michigan, we immediately started to think about where we wanted to get married. David grew up in the Village in NYC, but has been a California boy since he was 19. I grew up in a myriad of places: Chicago, Boston, Boca Raton, etc…but have been happily settled in Los Angeles for 7 years now. So it made sense to us to celebrate the place where we found each other, instead of where we grew up and Santa Barbara was at the top of the list, both of us being big wine-lovers.

We knew we wanted to plan something outside and laid back, yet with a classy feel to it. We had spent many weekends up in Santa Barbara while dating and while we knew the area quite well, when we started looking, we found it challenging to find the perfect venue. Enter – Roblar Winery. The moment we walked in the door of this fairly new Santa Ynez winery, we were instantly in love! It was absolutely what we had been looking for. Once we had picked our venue, the rest was a fun creative process that we gladly shared with Rebecca from Duet Weddings. She helped us shape our wedding into an entire weekend of events that just felt like us. We started by designing our own monogram that we used throughout the year. Not only did it go on all of our wedding stationery and thank you cards, but we also ended up putting it on the market bags we filled for the hotel rooms and on the cover of the cd we made for everyone.

Both David and I love to cook, and at home, we are dedicated to eating locally from the various LA Farmer’s Markets. This ended up being a kind of theme for our wedding, as we decided to get herbs from our friend’s Agoura Hills Farm (Maggie’s Farm) and dry them and make our own herb mix to give out as favors. This went in our welcome market bag along with the cd, vineyard maps, itinerary, welcome letter, snacks, etc….

We didn’t have a very large budget for flowers and I knew I wanted to use flowers that grew locally and that were in season. So, when I met with Juniper to discuss ideas, we talked about using white and blue hygrangeas, along with simple white and green flowers, so as not to compete with the natural beauty of the vineyard. We also discussed adding the herb theme in that area as well, so we placed pots of herbs in various places. An idea I got from looking at countless Style Me Pretty posts over the last year!

We lucked out when my husband’s sister, Susan, offered to bake our wedding cake for us as a gift. She is an accomplished baker and had made a few others in the past and we gladly accepted. It turned out AMAZING. Definitely one of the tastier wedding cakes we had ever eaten and it was so special that she was able to make it for us.

Our wedding day was unbelievable…and very peaceful. At the winery, we served a red sangria for pre-ceremony enjoyment. There was also an atrium room adjacent to the cocktails where guests could, keeping with the herb theme, fill paper cones with rose petals, sage leaves, rosemary, lavendar, etc…to throw at us at the end of the ceremony. We also had a table of vintage handkerchiefs laid out for “tears of joy” and Rebecca had brought lots of snuggly brown pashminas to display by the fireplace for later in the evening. Rebecca and her team placed hand-painted wooden signs all over the property, so as guests walked in to the wedding, they passed sentiments such as “To have and to hold” and “From this day forward” which added to the romantic rustic feel we were going for.

Chef Ryan at Roblar catered our wedding and we decided to do a huge cheese and charcuterie station for the cocktail hour (he smokes his own prosciutto!) and then a heavy pass of hors d’oeuvres and a few stations. The whole menu was dedicated to fresh local ingredients and the kind of food preparation that David and I enjoy at home. Simple, fresh and seasonal. Local rock shrimp, baby lamp chops, grilled filet mignon, risotto, etc.. And after discovering that Roblar had an outdoor pizza oven, we decided to have 3 kinds of gourmet pizzas passed as well. We kept with our rustic theme using Roblar’s wooden tables and forgoing the white linens (another great money saver!).

Instead of a guest book, Rebecca had guests write little notes to us and drop them in large vases throughout the night. At the end of the wedding, we were presented with a beautifully wrapped box of notes to open on our 1-year anniversary!

One very special picture that I will cherish forever is the one of my mom putting my veil on me. She wore that veil 42 years ago at her own wedding and time had failed to alter it in the slightest way. Jenny Lee ( who made my dress) was nice enough to alter it to fit me, and also told me that the lace in her veil was from the exact same place as the lace in my wedding dress!

All in all, it was a beautiful night at a beautiful venue with our favorite people in the world. There was a lot of laughter, music, delicious food and wine…and I married my best friend. What more could you possibly ask for? I can truly say that if I could go back and do it again, I wouldn’t change one thing. And I’m a perfectionist, so that’s pretty huge! It’s an amazing feeling….
