Georgia Lake Wedding by Our Labor of Love

If you looked up the definition of sweet in the dictionary, there would surely be an image of this lakeside wedding staring back at you. The carefree couple, the simple wildflower bouquets, the boot-clad bridesmaids…all plopped down right next to a lovely lake in Georgia. But all childhood summer camp fantasies turned wedding aside, it is all the happy moments captured by Heidi of Our Labor of Love that really speaks to our hearts. We eat those up by the spoonful around here. See the rest of the happy day in the gallery.

see the whole lakeside soiree right here!

Eric and I were married by a lake in the North Georgia Mountains in October. It was perfect. Everything about our wedding was handmade. From the Mason jar centerpieces to the invitations to the programs to the wedding cake pedestal to the directional signs…we crafted and created it all, with love. We also set-up the altar and guest book area and designed the entire music program. Our musicians were our closest friends. Our entrance into the reception was an acoustic version of ‘Lean on Me’ performed by our wedding party! Indeed, it was a lot of work…but it was also a great time to discover how well we work together. For that, we gave high fives all around!

50’s Sweetheart Table ~ Blooms By Martha Andrews and Stephanie J Designs

Vintage-styled weddings have never been bigger and never been better! Martha of Blooms and Stephanie of Stephanie J Designs know that all too well. They collaborated on this photo shoot with The Memory Journalists at Wilson Vineyards that should give every single one of you out there at least one new idea for your upcoming wedding ~ your sweetheart table, perhaps … or even a pre-wedding dinner party! The color, the decor, the overall 50’s vibe ~ too, too cute!! Scouring their grandmother’s cupboards and local antique stores, Martha’s and Stephanie’s mix came together with perfection!

Stephanie designed labels for the mini-champagne bottles, the soda bottles, place settings, tags for the fruit cups, and chair backs.

Martha found the pretty butterfly table cloth and pulled out her grandma’s old silver. We then scoured antique stores and found depression glass and milk glass. Each place setting was done in a different color.

SO many ideas!! Our thanks to Martha Andrews, Stephanie J Designs and The Memory Journalists for putting this adorable 50’s sweetheart table together!!

Modern Chicago Wedding by Olivia Leigh Photographie

This (incredibly gorgeous) couple’s fondness for art and architecture made a modern-styled wedding in none other than the Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago an absolute no brainer. They could not have chosen a more perfect location for their wedding to represent their signature style, and the amazingly talented Olivia Leigh of Olivia Leigh Photographie made sure that fabulous style was captured beautifully. It’s modern, it’s industrial, it’s chic – and so is each image in the gallery. I guarantee you’ll love all the industrial portrait shots – they are stunning!

From the talent behind the lens, Olivia Leigh…Erik + Katie are a couple that met and fell in love in Chicago, but now live in Seattle. A couple that has a fondness for art, architecture and style, and also wanting a space to showcase Chicago, the Modern Wing at the Art Institute was a natural fit. Katie wore a gorgeous Vera Wang gown with a classic veil and dove grey Chanel shoes. Her maids wore beautiful modern dresses from J Crew, and they carried bold fuchsia rose bouquets that popped beautifully against them. Erik was also dapper in his tux from Hugo Boss and modern shoes from Gucci that Katie picked out. After seeing each other for the first time at the Elysian hotel and taking photos around the city, Erik and Katie held a beautiful ceremony in Griffin Court in the Modern Wing. Katie walked in to a string quartet’s performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and joined Erik on a modern ceremony platform accented with tall calla lilly arrangements.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails on the beautiful terrace of Terzo Piano, the Modern Wing’s reception space and restaurant. Erik and Katie also made the Art Institute’s impressive impressionist gallery available to guests to view during cocktail hour, and we took advantage of this time by creating some portraits in this space. Nowhere else can you have a bridal portrait with your choice of Monet! The reception decor featured modern floral and glass arrangements, along with unique white table linens. Guests enjoyed rousing toasts, a delicious meal, the much-enjoyed photobooth, and then proceeded to dance the night way. We were also able to create some late night portraits on the landmark bridge connecting the museum with Chicago’s Millennium Park. Erik and Katie are a beautiful and kind couple, and it was such a privilege to witness and capture their wedding, along with all the sweet, tender moments they shared with each other throughout the day through beautiful portraits and touching natural moments.

David and I knew we wanted the wedding to be an intimate yet simple event for our close friends and family members. To bring out that intimacy, we envisioned to have everyone gather at a homey location close by, with a beautiful view for our guests to enjoy as well as spacious and intriguing grounds for the little ones to play on. Remarkably, not too far from home, we stumbled upon a venue that satisfied all our needs. With the majestic décor of a Victorian house and vastly diverse grounds, the Rengstorff Estate presented a character that we were not able to find elsewhere. More importantly, the openness of the venue allowed us to be creative! We brought out the richness of fall with vibrant autumn colors and pumpkin centerpieces.  We also brought out the “starlight” with many hanging lights and lanterns.

Our photographers, Delbarr and her husband, were so warm and friendly; it was easy for me and David to display our adoration for each other. During our shoot, we even ventured off into the tall grass and leaf piles to explore the grounds beyond the estate. Watching us closely, our little flower girls did not hesitate to join in on the amusement.

Our vendors were all a great help and they constantly expressed their heartfelt excitement for me and David. Our flowers were done by a kind, friendly and accommodating lady, Sophia, who captured the richness of our theme with orange calla lilies and dark berries. More importantly, our biggest thanks go out to our friends who contributed their time and effort to set up and transform the site into a beautiful wedding. I don’t know how we could have pulled it off without them. The contribution and the blessings from all our guests made the wedding everything we could ask for and an experience that we will never forget.

Texas Hill Country Wedding From Maggie Gillespie Designs

This morning, San Antonio was our focus. But just a hop, skip and a jump to the north(west) is the charming old-world town of Fredericksburg. An art and antique lovers dream come true! Maggie Gillespie sent us these beautiful shots by Jennifer Lindberg Weddings from one of their recent weddings at the Trois Estate

from Maggie Gillespie … I loved doing this vibrant June wedding in the Texas Hill Country overlooking Enchanted Rock for this beautiful young couple. He was signed as a ballplayer for the University of Texas, so we had the bride’s favorite flower blooming in a riot of burnt orange and red red rose…. and the groom’s cake made in the shape of a catcher’s mitt. Trois Estate supplied their delicious food and eclectic taste, expansive views and attentive service. I had the gorgeous antique goddess doorway came abloom for the ceremony with hundreds of American Beauty roses…even more lovely as the evening deepened and the lights came up, fragrancing the courtyard… a wonderful setting for the wedding service at dusk! The staff changed out the church pews for dance floor and additional dining space while the guests had cocktails on the upper deck with breathtaking views of Enchanted Rock at sunset painting the sky. The bride loved peonies, reds (and of course burnt orange!) so I had big red Chilean peonies and orange makara orchids flown in for the bouquets. Iron lanterns hung in the courtyard’s oak tree and also were filled with flowers on guest tables. A great band played upstairs over the open courtyard to the dancers below with long tables set for dinner upstairs, lit with more large lanterns, aglow in candlelight and flowers, toasts and laughter. We had a cigar roller (with personalized cigar bands,) wonderful walks and carriage rides through the artisan village of Trois Estate and incredibly long sparklers from Nuevo Laredo to light up the night at their exit. We had shuttle busses take the wedding guests back to their hotels and b & b’s in nearby Fredericksburg while the clear night’s stars and full moon continued the enchanted evening’s glow.

From the talented Vanessa of Alchemy Fine Events & Invitations…Mid century Italian glamour was the inspiration for this romantic seaside shoot designed by Alchemy Fine Events & Invitations. With images of the Italian Riviera in my mind I wanted to create a setting that combined the clean and chic style of mid century modernism with the allure of Italian opulence. We started the setting by layering a koa wood rug and cowhide onto the sand to create a platform for the white leather high back and Mies Van Der Rohe chairs. The soft grey of the sand was brought onto the table through the flannel linen for a neutral and rich palette to design upon. We laid a grey sun bleached plank of wood down the table and topped it with hollowed out rough wood logs, delicate cut crystal and silver cups to mix textures and colors in. Sunset colored blooms ranging from russet orange to ballerina pink were used including pops of indigo and green for contrast.

Silver, gold and copper ornate plates were stacked high and topped with precious covered arbutus fruits to offer guests a palette cleanser before they dined.  For a modern take on a place card we layered geometric cut copper onto wood with each guests name burned into them then wired them around napkins with copper wire. The menus offering an Italian feast featured geometric cut outs to see through to the rustic wood planks they were nailed upon with copper nails. A vintage cocktail set stating ‘You, Me and Ours’ sat atop a mirrored end table for an adorable way to tempt guests to a pre dinner nip.

For a play on geometric shapes and textures for the wine bar we created a wall of classic cement screen blocks with flower installations fading in color from eggplant to pumpkin to celery. Terracotta pipes were stacked and staggered to create a unique wine rack and house surprising air succulents. A mirrored end table offered stacked cake plates and napkins next to the gold and silver decadent cake designed by Erica O’Brien.

Colorful California Wedding by Kate Webber Photography

Oh color, glorious, glorious color. You are so bountiful in this California wedding shot by the fabulous Kate Webber Photography and for that, our hearts are ever so happy. Plus the design and styling by Dream A Little Dream Events has the perfect amount of whimsy to compliment the aforementioned burst of bright hues. Yes, this fun loving wedding is enough to knock the winter blues, the Monday blues, and any other blues right out of the park. See the rest of this happy day in the gallery.

see it ALL here!

From the moment we started planning the wedding, our priorities were easy – to make sure guests had a great time, and to make sure the night reflected our personalities. First, we chose to host the wedding in San Francisco because both of us really consider this city ‘home.’ We met here, our life together has been built here, and we absolutely love it here. Stephen is from Vermont and I’m from Minnesota, so we wanted to create a very San Francisco wedding with a few shout outs to our hometowns. The venue was a great start – we chose the Log Cabin at the Presidio in San Francisco. Both of us are runners, and the Presidio is one of our favorite places to run on the weekends. The Log Cabin is perched right near the Golden Gate Bridge, tucked onto a quiet field with great views. Our ceremony was outside, and we were lucky enough to have 80 degree weather (a huge rarity in San Francisco as all locals know!). My oldest brother Splinter preformed our ceremony, which was hands down our favorite part of the day. He nailed it. He made things so personal to me and Stephen, and brought in his own wisdom and experience in a funny, caring way. We had a little ‘advice’ table where guests could write down their relationship advice to us on their way to sitting down. Splinter read a few of these as part of the ceremony, which reflected our wish to tell our guests that they were truly part of this whole deal! Without them, we’ll have a much harder time on this crazy journey…

I wanted the décor to feel eclectic, bright, and mismatched – just like our house. I found most of the decorations at the Alameda Flea Market and various vintage shops. Each table had it’s own letter or number – so I scavenged these markets finding all kinds of ‘E’s’ ‘A’s’ ‘5’s’ etc. All the napkins were different, also found at flea markets and on Etsy. I also got a big pair of vintage cross country skis to adorn the entryway, as a shout out to Stephen’s cross country skiing past. And during cocktail hour I used old windows to write the menus and drink choices. I loved how all the details came together!

My high school friend Emily Dreblow runs an amazing flower company in the city – Soulflower Design – and her bright arrangements made the tables look so bright and fun. Huge props to Em. Stephen and I never really thought we’d be the types who’d want a wedding planner. It seemed too fussy, and we’re big list-making type A kind of folks. But with a 4-month engagement, we decided to take the plunge. On a recommendation, we hired Brittani Waldman from Dream a Little Dream Events. We were floored by how quickly she made a huge impact on our wedding. She was more like a great, organized friend than a vendor, and on game day she and her team were fully (but not intrusively) in control of everything. After interviewing a few photographers we chose Kate Webber, a San Francisco-based wedding photographer with a mellow, creative approach. We also loved her unique style of combined mediums. On the big day, Kate was all over the place – covering all the details we wanted to remember, but also capturing the overall mood and happiness. She was so fun and easy…just like the vibe we wanted to capture for the party and it was a great fit!

The night was such a blast. Our friends and family made speeches that floored us – it made us feel so lucky to be surrounded by this huge amount of love in one place. A good sign of a successful dance floor is fully soaked-through dresses and shirts. And my dress (which I had made by a tailor on my block) was literally tied up in knots by the end of the night to let me dance a little harder! The big hit was the photo booth, which had a line all night! I wish we could have a party like that once a year!

Canadian DIY Wedding by The Other Angle Photography

You gotta love a couple who thinks outside the mason jar for their completely handcrafted, Canadian farm fairytale of a wedding.  I give major props to anyone who plans and crafts their big day all on their own (with the help of family and friends, of course) but casting personalized ceramic jars for centerpieces just goes above and beyond in my opinion.  Being a firm believer that the engagement should be just as much fun as the wedding and, though it must have been a lot of hard work, I can see these cuties made the most of every moment!  There are DIY details galore in the images by The Other Angle Photography in the full gallery!

Click here for more wedding inspiration in the full wedding gallery!

From the moment that Adam got down on one knee (in a puddle) on a rainy day in England, we envisioned our wedding as an expression of community and family, rather than “our big day”. When we arrived back home (Vancouver, Canada) we sat down and imagined the experience that we wanted for our guests through the five senses; what they would see, smell, taste, hear and feel.  We both imagined somewhere rural, where we could show off the natural beauty of the region and give our local and international guests a new experience. Pemberton, a tiny valley nestled in between massive mountains, was our top choice. We packed some of our friends and family into a car and did several hilarious road trips – granny in the front seat, my super-tall brothers squished in the back – to scout out the local farms, ready to plead our case. When we came across the Pemberton Meadow Farm, we knew we’d found our place. A little river runs through it, with a willow tree, and ducks and a random peacock, a huge hay bales, and colourful tractors…sigh! Marty and Andrea, the farm owners, were the warmest people we ever could have imagined, and they loved our ideas, so that was one thing off the list. We read about Nick and Deb from The Other Angle Photography, and although I could rave about them for weeks, their photos are really the best testament to their extraordinary vision and skill.

In terms of food, Adam was adamant that a farm wedding needed a spit, and even my vegetarian persuasion couldn’t convince him that veggie skewers would suffice; it had to be meat! We did some research and found a local, organic, free range, super-ethical butcher, so we had lamb on a spit, wild salmon caught from the river down the road, Alsatian onion tart (a shout to my father’s French heritage) and a whole tonne of veggies, brought from Marty and Andrea’s children who run an honour stand to save extra college money. Dessert was what we called “Pemberton Mess” – a local twist on the British classic, Eton’s mess – with meringue, chocolate, fresh fruit, whipped cream and yogurt, as well as wedding cake and a midnight delivery of hot-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies for the more inebriated guests.

Going back to our original idea of a community and family wedding, we really wanted our guests to feel involved. And that’s where crafting and DIY came in. Adam’s a PhD student, and I work for a humanitarian organization (where we met), so we don’t have a background in the arts, or tons of time or money, but we do have lots of friends and family, who also have friends, who, in turn, also have friends, and that’s the network that we pulled on. I put out the word that we were going to get married on a farm and wanted ideas, and researched my heart out (I spent tons of time on SMP!), and the inspiration piled up.

I wanted to replicate a mason jar that I found with the words “Crown” (British, like me), and “Made in Canada (just like Adam), so I phoned up the local potter’s guild, and was referred to Russ, who made us a 3-piece mould of the original and sat down with me to teach me how to make ceramic castings. I taught Adam, and he taught some friends, and before I knew it we had a ceramics casting factory in our kitchen (and a fair amount less beer in the fridge). Adam became a pro, turning out 5 a day, pushing his PhD along while the castings set. Russ fired them for us, we researched how to seal them, and bingo, we had our centrepieces, and a new friend (albeit one who thought we were crazy!). I found a rad antique-style set of letter stamps and picked up some mailing labels at Staples, and whenever friends would drop in for a cup of tea, they’d stamp a few seating cards while we chatted. I found every dainty teacup in Vancouver’s thrift stores, and Adam’s sister, Margot, became a teacup candle wiz-kid, infusing them with eucalyptus-oil to get rid of bugs (they worked like a charm!), while her fiancé, Mike, bunkered down in the corner to paint in my tracings on a Japanese paper umbrella. We brought fleece blankets at IKEA and another friend taught me how to felt our initials on to the corners, and I poked away while watching TV in the evening. When the local government told us that we were only allowed to drink inside after 1am, Adam’s Best Man, Kyle, and my brothers, Theo and Alex, helped turn an old cabin on the farm property into a little prohibition-style speakeasy, with pictures from the prohibition era, and bottles of beer in hand-stamped brown paper bags with the word “juice”, and other fun little details. Our house became a hub, and not a single weekend went past where there weren’t guys in the back alley, spray-painting wooden chickens into chalkboards for table numbers, or girlfriends doubled over in hysterical laughter while we got tangled up in the meters of tulle intended for the favors.

More and more people pitched in; my grandmother’s best friend cut and dried lavender from her garden in England and sent them over to place on our napkins; my aunt Anita in Portugal brought hundreds of traditional European sugared almonds and sent them back with my mother; my brothers, not exactly wedding enthusiasts, joined Adam in his quest to find the perfect micro-brewery craft beers…the list goes on and on. My Maid of Honour, Zara – a lawyer who views ribbon and glue sticks with the kind of distaste normally reserved for people she’s prosecuting – pulled it all together, coordinating every single aspect of the actual event, making sure that the infinite details that we’d created all arrived and were organized into place on time, while distracting me at the spa.

San Antonio Wedding At Southwest School Of Art & Craft ~ Eclectic Images

If you grew up anywhere near San Antonio, you’ll know that it is full of charm ~ full of history and activity and most of all, full of romance! Package it all together ~ it’s THE perfect place for a wedding celebration!

11/30/2010

from Eclectic Images … Sarah and Gary were married at the Southwest School of Art and Craft in San Antonio.  Sarah got ready at the Hotel Havana just down the street. Sarah is a fine art photographer and Gary is a metal artist, so both incorporated their passions into their wedding. Sarah displayed vintage cameras and had polaroids available for guests to take photos and hang them on a string display. Gary made the table centerpieces and a cute wooden mechanical version of a bride and groom who kissed each other when the handle was turned. An artist friend made the unique boutonnieres, and Sarah carried a few flowers in a vase that was handmade by another artist friend. Sarah wore a vintage yellow dress. Instead of cutting a cake they cut flan (made from Sarah’s mothers Cuban family recipe). The band playing played vintage music that totally went with the vibe of their wedding.

San Francisco Ballroom Wedding by Alison Ulshoffer Events

Be still my modern ballroom wedding loving heart (seriously, be still…we have a post to write!). I can barely contain my monochromatic excitement for this San Francisco ballroom wedding by the lovely Alison of Alison Ulsoffer Events. The florals by Nancy Liu Chin? Perfection. The images by Scott Andrew? Dreamlike. I am literally dying over this wedding and all of the images in the full gallery. But have no fear, it doesn’t stop there – no, no…we also included their grab your tissues wedding video by LoveSpun Films. Happy Friday indeed!

And because we know you need more modern ballroom goodness, here’s a little work of art from LoveSpun Films:

From Alison of Alison Ulshoffer Events…Ben and Amy’s wedding was an incredible collaboration between the couple, their florist and our staff. They had a very defined vision of what they wanted their wedding day to entail. Every detail was thought out, created and incredibly fun to bring to life. Most importantly it was a beautiful representation of the couple. Their wedding was subtle yet absolutely stunning! Ben and Amy choose some of Northern California’s best vendors. Each was handpicked by the bride and groom and every one of them helped ensure this beautiful day was a success.

After looking at several incredible properties in both San Francisco and the Napa Valley, Ben and Amy chose an incredible venue, The San Francisco Ferry Building. The Ferry Building which sits on the bay with stunning views, was the perfect spot to create Ben and Amy’s “eco-chic” affair.

Amy walked down the aisle where Ben was waiting under a custom made chuppah. Amy and the room were literally glowing! After the ceremony their guest were ushered into the Port Room to enjoy specialty cocktails, hand passed fares and enjoy the unsurpassed views of the San Francisco skyline and Bay Bridge. Their friends and family were catering to by the amazing fares of Paula Le Duc fine catering. We cannot say enough about Molly and her staff.

Nancy Liu Chin, as always, created phenomenal table scapes that were a perfect match to the white on white parson tables and leather banquets. The room was absolutely breathtaking! Hundreds of glass vases, beakers and candle lite centerpieces filled the room. Nancy and her team are a dream to work with! We decided to split the massive room with both large banquet tables and a handful of round banquettes we picked from Hartmann Studios. We designed a schematic so all of their guests we close to Ben and Amy and felt a part of the celebration. The result was stunning! Miosa Couture and R. Douglas Custom Clothier designed Ben and Amy’s wedding day attire, and as you can see their designs and craftsmanship are flawless.

Scott Andrew, who could not have been more of a perfect fit, once again captured the day beautifully! He is such an amazing talent. Ben and Amy also chose LoveSpun Films to work with. Jessica is truly amazing to work along side and her work speaks for itself.

New Jersey Wedding by Jen Causey Photography

If there is one wedding tradition that I am completely smitten with, it would be the “wedding parade”. There is just something so joyous and magical about marching through the streets with all your loved ones on your way to celebrate your brand spankin new marriage. So you can imagine my excitement when I spotted this New Jersey wedding boasting not only a wedding parade but an equally magical backyard garden party. Oh be still my heart. All of it was captured to sheer perfection by Jen Causey Photography and there is even more of this whimsical celebration to pore over in the gallery.

see all the details from this New Jersey bash here!

I had always dreamed of having a backyard wedding in my small beach town of Manasquan, NJ. We had an amazing tent in our backyard and the party came to life. We got married at a church across from my parent’s house, officiated by the groom’s father. It was really special and personal. The church was just across the street so our guests and the bride and groom paraded to the reception with handmade “Just Married” signs in tow. I knew that I always wanted to create a lot of special details that our guests would remember! We created a foosball table. We bought a used foosball table and worked to make the little people look like brides and grooms. Our guests had a great time playing during the reception! I created a photo booth using a fabric backdrop and a Polaroid camera! Our guests took fun pictures of themselves and put them in our guest book with special notes for us that we will cherish forever. For the centerpieces, I scoured antique shops and thrift stores as well as enlisted our friends to find eclectic glass bottles in clear, blue and purple. The bottles went down the center of our long tables and my mom and I arranged wildflowers in the bottle to create a natural, “just picked” look!

Winter Wedding Photo Shoot by Redwall Photography

I’m definitely smitten with the color palette of this winter wonderland photo shoot but what I really love is that the team behind it, Redwall Photography, Kio Kreations and RBK Creations, warmed up the white, silver and cool blue theme with loads of cozy textures and totally accessible and eclectic elements.  The sweet decor feels ethereal, organic and serene but, best of all, I think all of our snow-loving brides and grooms will find loads of attainable inspiration from this wintry shoot.  The full gallery has more inspiration and ideas for you to make your own!

Click here for more winter wedding inspiration in the full gallery!

We designed a Winter Wonderland Wedding with a chic eclectic feel to go with the Armour House, beautiful historic venue in Lake Forest, IL.  Rather than have icicles and snowflakes everywhere, we kept it more understated with a handful of snowflake button details, small amounts of gel ice and scattered snow. We went with mostly white tones with touches of silver, pewter and icy blue. All of the flowers consisted of white blooms and silvery foliage with a little color brought into the mix with the organza and button stems. These organza flowers were also featured on the birdcage veil hairpiece, the necklace, and we also included them as an accent on the bride’s shoes.

Speaking of accessories, the beautiful funky asymmetrical necklace is a new item created by RBK Creations. The necklace has three layers of high quality glass beads in clear, silver and creamy pearls. There is a vintage inspired brooch on one side and a flowy handmade organza flower on the other. The necklace is finished off with a white satin ribbon used to tie it. This style of necklace is completely customizable from the color of beads, organza, brooch, ribbon…you name it!  As a cute, simple DIY, we bought a pair of pewter flats for the bride that we decorated with organza flower accents. For less than $30 she had a totally unique pair of shoes that fit her theme perfectly.

Instead of matchy-matchy centerpieces, we created a stylish, fresh, collected look of mismatched pieces filled with white flowers and silver foliage. We grabbed every vase and container we could find in clear, white, silver or ice blue including some silver mercury glass votives, vintage mason jars and bottles in blue and clear and some old milk glass vases. The vases and containers were both old and new, but worked perfectly when mixed together. Most of the vases were filled with white flowers and silver foliage including peonies, ranunculus, football mums, lisianthus, Dutch tulips, parrot tulips, Star of Bethlehem, dusty miller, silver sage and spray roses. We also filled a bunch of votive holders with gel ice and candles. One added touch we did was to include some white candies (Jordan almonds, yogurt-covered pretzels, and Lifesavers mints) to the mix, which made for some edible décor for the guests to enjoy. The collected containers and vases were placed on a long, beveled mirror that we repurposed as the “table runner”. It used to be part of a piece of old furniture! To complete the centerpiece look, we sprinkled some faux snow around everything and lit the candles. With the final touch of the crinkly white lamour tablecloth, it all worked perfectly together.

The bridal bouquet was a hand-tied, swooping bouquet of peonies, tulips, lisianthus, ranunculus, spray roses and some button and organza stems. The boutonnière was made to match and featured a mix of white flowers and silver foliage with 2 button stem accents. The button stems are created with RBK’s special stash of vintage buttons in whites, ivories, blues and grey with rhinestones mixed in as well. The organza flowers are created by hand and include numerous layers of fabric. Each petal is hand cut; there are around 16-20 layers per flower! The same vintage/rhinestone buttons finish off the flowers. They have a very romantic feel and resemble ranunculus.

We really loved creating this eclectic Winter Wonderland wedding featuring a beautiful bride at a stunning venue with subtle winter elements and chic mismatched details.

And as a super special treat for you today we have included the low-down on how to create those adorable shoe clips so you can get your DIY on!  There are more images from their project in the full gallery!

Bridal Flats

Supplies:

Metallic flats with plain front (no details on toe of shoe) We bought ours at Payless Shoes

Velcro circles (stick-on kind)

Organza floral stems (from RBK Creations)

Directions: This project could not be easier! Just add the Velcro to both the shoes and the cut-down organza stem and you’ve got some custom flats. You can even change out the flower later to a button or brooch and wear them for other occasions!

Maui Wedding by Jose Villa + Beth Helmstetter II

As promised, we are back and bearing gifts of the delightful wedding kind. They say the magic is in the details and we couldn’t agree more. So sit back and prepare to get lost for a bit in one of our favorite weddings to date. See the FULL wedding here!

see ALL of this wondrous day here!

More on the details behind this gorgeous wedding…

Stella wore a gorgeous gown from Vera Wang, while her attendants were in dresses in the softest shades of pink. Holly Flora was part of the extensive team that flew to Maui to bring it all together and she didn’t disappoint in creating a style that was a little bit vintage, a little bit garden and a whole lot of Stella. For the ceremony, Stella walked down a pathway of fresh herbs and petals while the bridesmaids each had a different bouquet inspired by the color palette. The flower girls carried whimsical ribbon wands and wore wreaths of baby’s breath for a delicate touch. The couple stood under a vintage crystal chandelier with a waterfall flowing in the background. For the reception, raw wood tables with runners in soft shades of blue and classic hemstitch napkins created a subtle backdrop for the gorgeous tablescape of mismatched china and garden roses in a collection of vases, french tea tins and pressed glass that felt as if we had spent years acquiring the vessels from french flea markets. And, just for fun we add surprise moments of the most charming butterflies on everything from the flowers to the hanging chandeliers to even the place cards.

The guests dined on a formal seated dinner in extensive candlelight before the DJ opened the dance floor with the bride and groom’s first dance. For dessert, we continued the Parisian inspiration with just a simple cake on a vintage pedestal and accented with fresh florals. Desserts were tropical flavored macarons, macadamia tarts and a variety of Hawaiian favorites served petit for style on a sweet collection of trays and cake stands.

The bride and groom said goodbye to their guests with a casual brunch at a private estate overlooking the ocean where they spent their week. It was truly a magical experience and we feel so lucky to have been entrusted with such an amazing celebration! A huge congratulations to Stella and Peter!

Effortless Elegance! Kentucky Wedding From Melanie Mauer

Melanie Mauer has shared another of her gorgeous Kentucky weddings with us today. With countless hours of planning, a good hard look at who they are and what their passions are ~ along with the help of their dedicated wedding vendors … Anne and Frank enjoyed a day truly meant to honor their love and enthusiasm for life! As you will read in a very moving story about themselves, Anne swears she couldn’t have done it without the wedding professionals that helped her orchestrate their sensational Kentucky celebration!!

from Anne … “Sophisticated & classic. Love it. It was really fun to plan, and I tried to infuse as much of our personalities into it as possible. Wish we could throw a party like this every year!”

from the fabulous Melanie Mauer
A classic, sophisticated aura surrounded this whole day. Anne’s style is impeccably matched by her ability to compose elements of color, style and mood. They wanted a day they could share all of their love with their closest family and friends and likewise put so much love into every detail present that day.

Here’s what Anne had to say about planning the day …

My vision for the wedding was one of effortless elegance. Frank wanted a traditional wedding and while I, too, wanted something classic, I also wanted it to feel and look fresh yet timeless. Something we could look back on years from now without it feeling dated. I wanted every detail to be beautiful & well thought out but never having a contrived look or feel. Above all, we wanted our family and friends to enjoy the day with us celebrating our long-awaited decision to finally tie the knot – beautiful surroundings, great food, great music. Most important, we wanted everyone to have fun.

One challenge was coming up with a way to explain what I was envisioning in my mind to our wedding planner and chosen vendors, all of whom were a complete dream to work with. I finally settled on ‘town & country,’ which fit us perfectly. ‘Town’ reflected our vision for beautiful, elegant details, and ‘country’ reflected our vision for a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere of easy celebration. Also, Frank and I both grew up in the South and consider it home so we knew we wanted a wedding infused with Southern charm and hospitality. Frank grew up in Kentucky, I grew up in Louisiana, and we have shared a love of thoroughbred racing for years. The Kentucky Derby’s red rose as our flower was a no-brainer. Our color choices of champagne and ivory were also sentimental – inspired by fond memories of our visits to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles where Frank and I have enjoyed several performances over the years. It was Frank who expressed his love for the ivory marble and gold accents of that grand hall and asked if we could work that into the wedding somehow. And after looking at a number of venues, we knew we’d found the one when we saw Spindletop Hall. It just felt right. Its gorgeous grounds, the architecture, the attention to detail in the house that was lovingly designed by its first mistress – everything about it was the perfect backdrop for bringing our vision to reality.

Frank and I met in San Diego in the late summer of 1995 when I was on holiday with friends, and Frank was still in the Navy. We didn’t start seeing each other regularly until the next year, but we’ve been fairly inseparable ever since. What I love most about Frank is his easy way about things. He doesn’t know a stranger, and his kindness and general good-natured outlook is a good foil to my type-A personality. Not to mention he’s so handsome, & those eyes! As for me, well, Frank has often said he fell in love with me immediately because I was the perfect combination of smart & beautiful & “class.” Now, I don’t know about all that, but I do know that I wanted to make our wedding all of those things. Admittedly, it became my obsession for a number of months to plan a celebration that respectfully honored the traditional and faithfully reflected both our personalities and what we love most about one another.

When the week of the wedding finally arrived, I have to say I didn’t feel ready as far as the preparations went. In fact, I was still writing our ceremony the night before but managed to finish in time to join our guests at the pool party Frank’s parents graciously hosted for us. It was all moving way too fast. Frank and I whispered together long into the evening and promised to take lots of mental snapshots the next day so we could remember the best moments. When the big day finally arrived, all my nerves were gone. I know that’s because I had the best wedding planner and vendors in the world, and we really were ready. I remember feeling so happy and letting go of all of the angst about how things would turn out. Frank & I had decided to see each other before the ceremony to take our pictures, and I’m so glad we did. The instant I saw his face and he saw mine, we knew everything up to that point had been worth it and the day was going to be perfect. From then on, we completely relaxed and savored every moment surrounded by those dearest to us.

What I liked most about my wedding day was how effortless it truly was! Mackenzie Spalding is a dream. I sometimes think I would’ve gone insane if it hadn’t been for her grounded, patient and sage advice in the weeks and months leadings up to it. Our wedding simply would not have happened without her help.

My favorite memories from the day are many but here are a few: Frank’s face when he turned & saw me for the first time, the impossibly green grass of the Spindletop lawn, my best girls in all their finery, the first time I saw the dining room set for dinner – the flowers, the linens, the cake! – and the lawn set for the ceremony with the aisle markers, the chairs, the rose petals – all of it like it had been plucked from my mind, seeing Frank’s face as I turned up the aisle with the string quartet playing “All I Want is You” by U2 in the background, my goof in kissing Frank ‘hello’ when I got to the top of the steps before the ceremony even started, the smart-looking bugler who called everyone in for dinner, our guests singing to the music playing during dinner & later giving the chef an ovation when he came out to check on us, dancing with Frank for the first time as his wife & so many more!

What I’d really want to pass along to any bride and groom planning a wedding is to make it a reflection of their own personalities. That’s not an easy or quick thing to do. Don’t rush it. It takes time and introspection. But it’s worth the effort. Also, to make a conscious decision to take those mental snapshots throughout the day (& whole weekend, really). After all of the thought and hard work that goes into pulling a party of that magnitude together, it all goes by in a blink! What I loved most about our day is that it really was a reflection of us and a true celebration of our love – for each other and for our family and friends. It was perfect.
