From the Bride…Morgan and I met in college and have lived in Washington, D.C. since 2006.  After getting engaged, we knew that we wanted to have our wedding in D.C. so that our family and friends could experience D.C.’s history, culture, and food scenes – all the things we love about this city.  We started our wedding planning by searching for a unique venue that had an outdoor space for the ceremony.  After looking at a handful of options in and around D.C., we found our ideal location in Halcyon House, an 18th-century Georgetown mansion that is complete with tiered gardens that overlook the Potomac River and a very cool reception space – the owner’s first floor sculpture studio!

After setting the date with Halcyon House, we knew wanted to work with a local planner to help us refine our vision for our wedding day.  We immediately clicked with Aimee of A. Dominick Events.  Aimee and her colleague, Danielle, helped us immensely in every part of the wedding planning process.  We are especially grateful to them for helping us with finding fabulous vendors and for flawlessly executing our wedding day plans.   A big part of our planning included flowers and décor.  Our floral vision included soft, flowing arrangements in an array of blush colors that would work well with the historic features of Halcyon House, and complement its modern reception space.   Another important element to us was lighting, so we incorporated plenty of soft candlelight glow from wrought-iron chandeliers, hanging lanterns, and scattered candles.  Beehive Events understood our concept and gorgeously combined all the floral, lighting, and design elements.  On our wedding day, I loved seeing my bouquet and the “something blue” surprise designed by my mom and sisters – two petite blue flowers tucked into the bouquet!  And it was fun to get a sneak peek of all the décor before the reception began.

When our wedding weekend finally arrived, we kicked off the festivities with a welcome party for our out-of-town guests at our favorite local wine bar, Cork, which was a great way to introduce our family and friends to our neighborhood, and to each other!   Although the weather forecast threatened our outdoor ceremony, we were so glad that the rain stayed away.  Every moment of our wedding day, from putting on my wedding dress for real to laughing (and maybe shedding a tear) during the toasts, was surreal and very happy.  At the end of the day, the best part was having all of our family and friends there to celebrate with us!

Northern Virginia Wedding from Laurie Bracewell + Growing Wild

The wedding of Lewis & Clark (really, those were the bride and groom’s last names) was absolutely classic, beautiful, and simply put, chic. A subtle travel thread is what ties every single perfect little detail together – from the Moleskine invites to the logo on the program, and everything in between. This wedding, captured by Laurie Bracewell Photography, is promptly being added to the list of my all-time favorite weddings – thanks to the fantastic style, fabulous florals from Growing wild, and that delicious bunt cake. My list consists of weddings which often are simple, yet crazy cool – pretty much the definition of this whole Virginia affair. Click here for more in the gallery!

Andrew and I met in the fall of 2008. Me, a transplant from the suburbs of D.C., and Andrew, a Chicago ‘burbs-boy’ moved downtown. We were set up on a blind date by family members. To call it a blind date is accurate, but perhaps you should think of it as “triple-filtered” or “pre-approved.” True, we hadn’t ever met, but we had all the confidence we were meeting a person which with we could make it through a dinner. Why such a prediction? Call it sibling love: a sister’s careful and watchful eye.

Andrew’s sister, Aarin, began watching my nephew, Miles in the early fall of 2008.  Andrea, Miles’ mom, was part-time teaching, and both ladies became fast friends and were thrilled at their new found discovery . . . they both have a single, young sibling living in Chicago. The new matchmakers got to working. Andrew sent an email to set up a time to meet. That first email I received had seventeen words in the subject line!

At any length, I agreed to his proposal to meet for casual drinks — thinking it could easily turn into a pleasant, paid-for dinner. AVEC is where we met for the first time. It is Andrew’s favorite restaurant and gave him the comfort of familiarity; a “home-field” advantage. I did not know it then, but it was a test of my culinary taste, adventurous ordering and the all-important, sharing a plate of food. Drinks turned to four plates and hours ticked away at the bar. In true Chicago commuter fashion we said good night, polite thank you on the #8 bus. To most, this would have been the deal breaker, but it fit our way of living and became a big part of our dating life.

My last name is Lewis. Andrew’s last name is Clark. Thus, we are Lewis & Clark. In planning for our wedding we couldn’t pass up the much anticipated ideas of Lewis & Clark, but also keeping everything very much ‘us’, simple chic, with a twist on traditional. Our wedding was in my hometown of Northern Virginia. It ended up being a difficult search for the reception because most places were too small or too pricey. We went with a country club, which is not what we had planned but we were able to add elements that fit our personality and things we love. Our goal was for guests to know us better.

All the design work (invitations, name cards, table numbers, blog) were all designed by Andrew. Using the inspiration of the original journey of Lewis & Clark, he drew a line where I had lived and another line where he had lived, which created the base design for all our paper items and is found on all our items. To tie the theme together but not go over the top, we used Moleskine books to hold our invitation, as well as, a keepsake for our guests. For the front of the Moleskine Andrew designed a custom stamp to imprint our logo and get that “Lewis & Clark” feel. We used Moleskine books because it is something Andrew uses when sketching, writing ideas/thoughts, and is part of his everyday life.

The table numbers are one of my favorite elements of our wedding. Each table number represented an important number in our relationship. The numbers seem random, 3, 28, 250, and more. I found two sided frames from Ikea. One side has the table number and the other side shares the meaning. For example, table 250. The number of cents a Trader Joe’s Lava Cake costs and our favorite dessert. Or table 17. The number of words in the subject line of the first email Andrew sent me.

Chestertown Wedding by Aaron Snow Photography

Aaron Snow is one of those photographers that I just can’t seem to get enough of. His images are always beautiful, thats a given, but it’s the emotion behind each photograph that really strikes a cord. And man oh man can he capture a great moment (or a billion). Connect The Dots Events is also at the top of my favorites list. Not only did they design and style one heck of a wedding day shindig but they also designed a rehearsal dinner that puts my own wedding to shame. Stop by the gallery for loads more from this Maryland beauty and all the rehearsal dinner snapshots you could dream of.

From the Bride…I made the mistake of checking the weather about three hours before our ceremony – scheduled to take place outside, next to the Chester River – and was horrified to find that there was an 80% chance of thunderstorms.  As I began to picture our chuppah flying into the river, my dress covered in mud, and our entire wedding day in ruins, Sara England Cunningham, our genius wedding planner, reassured me that it would not rain; she would see to it.  Just like everything else about our wedding, Sara fixed the problem.  Our ceremony went off without a hitch, not a cloud in the sky (it only began raining once we were all under the tent, partying the night away, and having too much fun to even notice).  From the table settings to the placement of name cards, from coordinating with every vendor to becoming a friend and confidant, she made sure that our day was carefree and just, perfect.

While Sara built the day, Aaron Snow, our amazing photographer, captured each moment with care and discretion.  He managed to catch every important moment of the night, and looking at the photos, we got to see everything we missed – it was as if he froze the day and photographed every guest at different points throughout the night.  Beyond the guests, Aaron got beautiful shots of the delicious food – BBQ and delicious backyard picnic sides – the rockin’ band, our beautiful ketubah, and Brittland Manor. Thanks to Aaron and Sara we’ll be able to look back and always remember what an amazing weekend we shared with our closest friends and family.

From Flower Talk A beautiful autumn day with blue skies in Perth, Western Australia. The style shoot teams decided to have the shoot in Perth’s favorite wedding venue, Bluewater Grill which is situated on a hill with the Perth skyline in the background.

The theme colors are winter hue, red hippeastrum, orange tulips, yellow chrysanthemum, green/red nadine foliages, tulips and poppies. Cathrin D’Entremont, the wedding planner and stylist complimented the flower styling with dark green tablecloths, red charger plates and crystal cutlery. The walnut Tiffany chairs from the Bride & Groom Store go well with all the winter colors and Bluewater Grill’s private dining room with fireplace and rich wood surrounding. The string quartet was fabulous and their music really add to the atmosphere. Menus, invitations and stationery was all styled by Studio Bomba. I can’t wait to work with Angela and Leah again. Natasha from NK Photography took all the beautiful images and Derek from Urban Light filmed the shoot. Nicole Forde did fabulous make-up and hair on the models and Samantha Wynn was there to personally help dress the girls.

We had so much fun creating this style shoot and I am sure brides and grooms will get as much inspiration from this creations as much as we enjoyed creating them. At the end we had a lovely dinner compliments by Bluewater Grill and Natalie Crompton the wedding coordinator who did a fabulous job to make sure we had everything we needed.

I’m finding it incredibly hard to believe that Fall is just around the corner when a breathtaking Day After Shoot like this one is gazing out from my computer screen.  Filled with brilliant images galore by Krista Fox of Krista Fox Photography, a gorgeous bride and groom, sunny beaches and a wedding gown that I absolutely ADORE, I’ve just been transported right back to the middle of July, with flips flops on my feet and a strawberry lemonade in my hand.  Yes, it’s a little bit of paradise on this lovely Friday morning and I am more than happy to spend my day wrapped up in all of this pretty, prolonging the summer by just a bit.  Join me in the gallery for even more!

From the Bride… I’ve never been one of those girls who always dreamed of her wedding but soon after we got engaged strolling along Pebble Beach, California I quickly became obsessed with everything wedding! Being from cold, white, Northern Manitoba  and absolutely loving to travel, we both felt right away that there was a warm sun and sandy beach somewhere just waiting for us to celebrate a wedding week with our closest family and friends. I had a vision of white sand beaches, turquoise water, soft romantic colors in shades of pinks, cream, gold and touches of nature and whimsy. The wedding day came together beautifully on the soft sands of the Dreams Tulum Resort and Spa. The most important aspect of my wedding from the get-go was the photographs, I spent hours pouring over pictures of weddings and gathering ideas for not only my wedding day but the day after shoot. I knew the day after would be so much fun and so much more relaxed than the actual wedding day.  We were both so excited for the shoot only to check the weather the night before and realize that it was calling for rain, all day! I could hardly sleep the night before praying it would turn out nice, we both woke early and to our surprise the sun was shining!

We had beautiful weather and an absolutely perfect day! With our research of the area around Tulum , and Krista scouting locations, we had a jam-packed day planned. Our first stop was the village of Tulum, where we got a taste of celebrity as we walked through the narrow paths of the market and the locals began shouting and clapping for us.  It was so cute.  My hair even got attacked by a monkey who decided the plumeria flowers should be lunch and not decor! Once we reassembled what was left of my flowers we continued on for some shots on the beach, and then to an old road-side chapel that we stumbled upon.  It was beautiful and quintessential “Mexico” with its exterior washed with turquoise and Bougainvillea climbing its walls.  We instantly knew it was an opportunity we could not pass by! Quickly running through an overgrown field we used the day’s soft light to shoot some of my favourite pictures, we even had several locals peeking around the bushes nearby to sneak a few shots of their own.

The end of the day brought us 4x4ing down an old windy dirt road.  After the bumpy drive, and a mile walk down a narrow path we came across a beautiful crystal clear turquoise green cenote with fish!  It was too tempting not to get up on the raised wooden platform, hold hands and plunge into the cool water, dress and all! We ended our day in the perfect private spot, got some amazing above and under water shots. Our dreams for the day had really come together: stunning locations, gorgeous weather, and fish…lots of fish!

Desert Engagement by Jana Williams Photography

I thought this adorable engagement session by Jana Williams Photography was an appropriate way to kick off the weekend.  It makes me want to grab a vintage suitcase, an heirloom quilt, my sweetheart and ride off into the desert sunset.  Even better when that ride includes cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery. Yum!  Make sure you check out all the romantic images in the full gallery and have a fabulous weekend!

From Jana Williams… Keri Lynn is an actress here in Hollywood. She is a series regular on Smallville and appeared in manys films like A Single Man, America’s Sweetheart etc.  So needless to say she is quite comfy in front of the camera.  John on the other hand is a photographer and feels best behind the camera.  John met his muse when he met Keri.  When we shoot this session Keri melted like butter and John forgot a camera was anywhere around. It was so amazing and cool to see two beautiful people just be so giddy around each other. We used an old quilt in honor of Keri’s grandmother who makes quilts in New Hampshire. I will be shooting their wedding in October.  It’s gonna be an affair to remember!

Los Angeles Wedding by Docuvitae Photography and Films

I am loving the perfect blend of tradition meets Southern California modern in this Los Angeles wedding by Docuvitae Photography and Films.  From the beautiful lace dress to the invitations to the candlelit ceremony, romance and elegance were definitely a strong theme throughout the day.  But the organic succulent centerpieces and fun, clean details bring in an awesome contemporary vibe with tons of character.   See all the classic meets au courant details in the full gallery!

From the Bride…When we started planning, we knew that we wanted a wedding that was elegant and traditional, but also warm and fun and that reflected our personalities.  (Much like the proposal itself–down on one knee, ring in hand…in the dressing room at Target).  And, since we’re both foodies, we wanted the food to be delicious.  We both got totally into all of the details—me and my groomzilla—and with the help of our families and some extraordinarily gifted (and patient!) vendors and wedding planners, we had a completely perfect day. To top it off, thanks to unbelievable photographers, we are lucky enough to have photos that feel exactly as genuinely, overwhelmingly happy as we did that day (including some priceless pictures our guests created in the photo booth!).

Jennifer’s invitations were dreamy—romantic and understated, incorporating the lace of my dress.  The ceremony was in a Serbian Orthodox church, and the reception was at a converted cathedral in downtown Los Angeles, which we were very excited about because we wanted something that felt old and had character, which is not always easy to find here in L.A.  The florist did an amazing job creating floral arrangements that were sculptural and organic and not overdone or too “flowery.”  For dinner, two courses were served at long tables, and then desserts were passed while everyone danced (we skipped wedding cake).  Towards the end of the night, we served grilled cheese sandwiches—an especially yummy treat after a long night of drinking and dancing.

My advice to brides (other than stalking Style Me Pretty, which I did constantly), is to have a good time with all of the little things, but to try not to let them make you crazy, because there’s a lot of joy to be had or missed. Although all of the details of our wedding were important and meaningful, the one memory that will always mean the most to me is detail-free—the moment when I walked down the aisle, and didn’t see anyone or anything but my husband waiting for me.

Toronto Wedding by Honey & Dear + Nat Caron Photography

I’m loving the casual easiness with which this bride and groom approached their wedding day. They skipped most formalities, spent the morning and afternoon of the big day together and when the time came to tie the knot, this beautiful bride nixed the whole walking down the aisle thing. Instead, gathered by a pond with friends and family, they simply said, let’s get married! Honey & Dear filmed all these moments beautifully and Nat Caron Photography was also on hand to capture all the pretty, pretty details. For even more, check out the gallery!

From Honey & DearActually getting together in person with Zoe and Tim proved to be a bit of a comedy of errors. They were planning a wedding in Barrie remotely from Montreal and whether it was a snowstorm or conflicting schedules – we ended up having to reschedule more than once! We finally met Zoe and Tim for Thai food followed by some of the best stand up comedy we’ve ever experienced a few months ago! Our friend Nat Caron who photographed their wedding joined us for the comedy night. Tim, a touring comedian was the host for a Yuk Yuks comedy tour which as he explained is a job reserved for the truly experienced comedians because they have to warm up the crowd and keep the night going. Zoe is in the background of the comedy world – producing and scouting new comedians for the Just For Laughs festival among other things.

Zoe & Tim got married exactly the way they wanted to. It happened to be perfectly planned down to the breadstick but at the same time nothing about this wedding was about being on schedule. Zoe didn’t walk down an aisle. Tim didn’t wait to see his bride. The both woke up together and spent their wedding day side by side. In the company of friends and family, Zoe and Tim gathered everyone together at the foot of the pond and said ‘let’s get married’. We had an amazing time with them.

Grand View Lodge Wedding from Amy Majors Photography

This Minnesota wedding has the exact equation for summer wedding perfection down. The started with a wedding over the Fourth of July Weekend, at a gorgeous, green lodge on a great big lake. The girls donned gowns by Jenny Yoo & Monique Lhuillier, and the couple added equal or less than a million fabulous DIY projects with help from every family member they could gather. Multiplying the fabulously were a bunch of mouth-watering cupcakes from Cocoa & Fig, and to finish it all with a bang, they hired to oh-so-talented Amy Majors Photography to capture every summer lovin’ minute. Perfection. Click here for the full image gallery!

For adventurous people, our families were happily surprised when we decided to get married in Nisswa, Minnesota. When we originally started thinking about where to host a wedding for family and friends that would be flying in from across the world, the only thing I knew was that I just really wanted it to be somewhere green.  After telling Trent this, he instantly knew the perfect place. Grandview Lodge, in Nisswa Minnesota, is a place Trent and his family spent summers during his childhood. Seeing it, it’s hard to argue that there is any place greener.

The site, along with the weekend we planned to have our wedding, 4th of July weekend, were our true inspiration. We wanted the whole weekend to feel like our memories of 4th of July: sun, bright blue skies, green grass and trees, lakes, beaches, fireworks, s’mores, family and friends. We wanted to make this weekend a fun and relaxing vacation for all of our guests, where they could really enjoy the site to the fullest.

As for our wedding day itself, we chose subtle colors that reflected the nature  and beauty of the sight: burlap and blue. We decided to have a ceremony and dinner in a green open field, and then dancing and dessert (with a bonfire for s’mores) by the beach. While we came up with a loose vision, our family and friends’ talents made the wedding details come to life. Trent’s sister, Kelly, designed all of our stationary: the invitations, menu cards, programs, and thank you cards. Trent’s mom and twin sister assembled the stationary, and did so much for us in finding the perfect details and putting them together in a beautiful way. Trent’s dad helped with the assembly line of invites as well, and is the man responsible for making Grandview Lodge as green as it is, because his company works with Grandview on their landscaping.  My mom and her best friend designed and assembled all of our flower arrangements and bouquets along with the help of many aunts and cousins. My mom and I made the name cards together. My dad made our chocolate boxed gifts for the guests–he shipped the chocolate from Egypt and assembled more than 150 boxes. He also made our wedding arch, decorating it with flowers and vines. My cousins were in charge of site decorating on the day of the wedding. Trent’s uncle used logs from near his cabin to create our table numbers, Trent’s aunt donated her collection of vintage canning jars. My friend Paul and his dad, artists that specialize in book binding, made our guestbook. My brother created a piece of art that sat on our guestbook table, and also was the officiant of our ceremony. All of the moving pieces were brought together by Trent’s incredibly talented and organized cousin, Niki, who we could not have survived without.

Our wedding surpassed our every expectation. It was one of those perfect midwest summer days, sunny, but not humid, with a clear blue sky. We were surrounded by sunkissed family and friends who’s genuine happiness and energy radiated throughout the night of dancing and celebration. Our family and friends were embedded in every little detail of the wedding, and the day was a true reflection of who we are and the people we love.

Fall may be knocking on our doors but after staring at this lovely Atlanta wedding by ABJ Photography, I am going to revel in the loveliness of a warm weathered wedding for just a wee bit longer. The splashes of bright color, the cutest ruffled frocks by Carol Hannah, the peony bouquet and summery florals by Boukates, they all speak to my sun loving soul. From ABJ PhotographyPat and Jennifer are not Atlanta natives, but as recent Emory Grads, they wanted to share “their” city with family and friends.  The entire weekend was wrapped in love from family, and guests attended various functions around the city throughout the weekend.  The main event though was their wedding in the heart of Atlanta’s Piedmont Park.  Jennifer wore heirloom earrings from her grandmother, bridesmaids wore dresses made just for them by Carol Hannah, and the guys brought humor with their fun socks.  Every element was thought through, and all the hand-made elements helped to make this event even more personal.

Wallowa River Camp Wedding by Tana Photography

Happy Friday, lovelies! We’ve got the prettiest purple and gray fete for you to feast your eyes on this morning with so many DIYs to inspire you, you’re head might just start spinning…in a good way! I’m loving so many of the personal touches but I must say my faves have got to be the super cute mason jars filled with signature cocktails and complete with chalkboard drink labels for guests to scribble their names on and the make-your-own trail mix table. LOVE it! Oh and their response cards must have been super fun for guests to fill out (think wedding Mad Libs) and then made for a sweet display strung together with burlap and hung throughout the reception area. Oh and the gorgeous flowers by Blüm, Design in Flowers have been dancing pretty little circles in my head all morning long. Enough from me though…I’ll just let the gorgeous images by Tana Photography do the rest of the talking. Click here for more.

From the Bride…Classic, simple, natural and local were the words we thought of when envisioning our wedding. We both grew up in Joseph and wanted to share the beauty and spirit of this small town in eastern Oregon. We knew the mountains would provide a spectacular backdrop so we chose an outdoor location at the Wallowa River Camp where our two hundred and thirty guests could assemble along the Wallowa River for our ceremony and reception. The entire community pitched in with loaning picnic tables, creating seasonal fruit desserts, pit barbecuing a pig, cooking cedar plank salmon, building willow archways, gathering and arranging flowers from local gardens and playing music for the wedding. Both my fiancé and I and our guests could feel the love and support of the town of Joseph at our wedding.

For all of our DIY projects we created the mountain motifs and J+E brand as well as stuck with our color palate of purple, white and rustic brown. Invitations included a schedule of local events from skeet shooting, to Pilates and wildflower hikes. A welcome bag greeted out-of-town guests with treats from our family and local Joseph businesses including TG beer, Arrowhead Chocolate, elk sausages, our favorite cookies and my sister’s famous granola.

Family traditions were important in the ceremony. Our officiant, a local judge, had married my mom and step father, I carried my great-grandmothers hankie and my sister and I both wore our grandmother’s tennis bracelets. Our guests joined together in the singing of “In My Life” by the Beatles as Jay and I walked down the aisle together during the recessional. A cocktail hour started off the evening with appetizers prepared by my aunts and a signature drink of Oregon Berry Spitzers with handpicked blueberries. Guests were given a mason jar, which we had collected over the past year, and wrote their names on chalkboard labels.

Friends and family from afar joined us on the dance floor and were not the least bit fazed by the evening thunderstorms. We danced the night away to the classic rock band that played 30 years earlier at my in-laws wedding and drove off in aqua getaway car. It was a perfect ending to our evening.

From Fleur IncRachel & Jeremy were married this past June at Salvage One.  As artists they chose a very elegant DIY approach when designing their wedding.  Simple table settings were designed with mason jars, paper items and hand-made runners, all set in a natural and neutral palette which added warmth to the beautiful room.  Rachel looked gorgeous in her vintage lace gown.

Rachel’s bouquet was filled with garden roses, peonies and other delicate blooms.  One of our favorites of the year!!  Maypole Studios captured all the love and romance of this elegant wedding with emphasis on soft lighting and sweet moments.  SO much amazing eye candy to enjoy!!  They really outdid themselves, these images make you truly feel as though you were  a guest!

These two hottie smarties had a beyond gorgeous, elegantly urban wedding in the heart of New Haven that deserves an A++!  The look is traditionally romantic and it works oh-so perfectly in the chic, European-inspired restaurant.  And, speaking of romantic, these Yale graduates took a stroll down memory lane to tour their alma mater and where they first met!  IRIS Photography gets high marks for bringing each sweet moment and each classic detail to life with their exquisite photographs!  See them all in the full gallery!

From IRIS PhotographyStylish, relaxed European restaurant wedding in gentrified urban setting in New Haven CT.  The restaurant–Union League Cafe is on the site of the home of Roger Sherman, Revolutionary war patriot who entertained George Washington at his house.  The bride and groom were undergrads at Yale in New Haven so it was a homecoming for them…and bride also grew up in New Haven. Union League Cafe is owned by a French chef–great food & presentation, and they have a window-lit room above the restaurant for intimate weddings. We toured Yale’s campus and their college’s quad for photos. The bride and groom are a great couple at grad school in Boston now (he’s at Harvard Law, she’s at MIT for MBA). Their band–The Sidewinders–was a different choice–session musicians without singer playing instrumental music like Stevie Wonder…excellent. It had a homecoming feel with Yale and clubby, intimate restaurant was nice departure from bigger wedding venues.

The Loeb Central Park Boathouse Wedding by FS Photography + McKenzie Miller Films

Happy Friday, lovelies! We’ve got quite the pretty wedding for you this morning filled with sweet, personal touches. My favorite has got to be the escort cards. The bride, a huge lover of Starbucks decided to share her love with all the guests and put a giftcard inside an envelope which was then tucked into boxes made to look like old library card drawers…remember those days of the card catalogs? Then the drawers were filled with fresh coffee beans. What a super cool way to make a personal statement and who doesn’t love Starbucks? FS Photography and McKenzie Miller Films were there to capture all the special moments and details. Click here for more.

From the Bride…Choosing The Loeb Central Park Boathouse was a no-brainer for us. Being in Central Park, its location was just too perfect to pass up. With that settled, we decided to style our wedding so that it complimented the venue’s contemporary feel while also adding in a modern twist. With our wedding being in the summer, we took advantage of the lively bright colors that we were surrounded by and chose a sunny yellow to be our main color. Instead of choosing complimenting colors, we worked in tones, yellow tones. The best way for us to emphasize that was with our flowers. We loved our flowers and spent a lot of time figuring out exactly how they should look. We figured that this was a great way for us to meld the classic and the modern, so we had them in a new uniform version of apothecary bottles; each table had its own cluster topped off with a mini chalk board table marker in an industrial metal frame.

Since we wanted our wedding to really say something about us as a couple, we made a lot of the details ourselves. We had two large chalkboards of which we painted in our yellow tones and distressed and used for photo opportunities, these made happy photos even more fun. For more practical reasons, we built a large gift box and wrapped it in beautifully contrasting, fun patterns so that guests would easily be able to drop off their enveloped gifts. Perhaps our favorite hand crafted element was our guest book. We wanted guests to be able to give us thoughtful notes without having to rush, so we purchased a leather notebook with handmade heavy weight paper and sporadically added some photos from our engagement shoot throughout its pages. Each page also had eight photo corners on it. We then stamped individual notecard sized pieces of card stock  with the note: “to the happy couple…”. Each place setting was then topped with this card and a black Le Pen…the guests were able to figure out what to do from there. This was so fun! And now we have  a guest book that feels like a time capsule from our big day. We love it!

Our last major touch was our wedding favors. As Michelle is a bit obsessed with Starbucks, we figured we would share that element with our guests. We put a Starbucks gift card in its own envelope for each guest. These doubled as escort cards as we labeled each envelope with the guest’s name and table number. We placed these in boxes that we embellished to look like old library drawers and were filled with coffee beans. The overall look was so us. Everything came together so perfectly. Those little touches not only meant a great deal to us, but it really helped our guests to get enveloped by the experience. It truly meant the world to us to see how happy our friends and family were.

1905 New River Inn Wedding by 13:13 Photography

I’ve developed a serious crush on the color yellow and the downright cheeriness that it brings to each and every wedding it touches.  And when combined with the color gray, I am more than crushing… I am head over heels in love.  Take for example this gorgeous Fort Lauderdale affair, which is not only filled to the brim with my new favorite sunshiny color, but a plethora of fabulous DIY details, beautiful blooms by Tulips A Florist and a sweet-as-can-be “Love” necklace for the stunning bride (which I ADORE).  And with a gallery full of lovely images by 13:13 Photography, there’s enough pretty to keep us smiling all weekend long.  Join me there for even more!

From the Bride… It didn’t take long after we were engaged for Derek and I to decide that we both wanted a wedding that was small, full of DIY details and most importantly, “us.”  Our vision for the wedding was less pomp and circumstance and more Party for 100. We wanted our wedding to have a relaxed, fun feeling about it.  Most of our guests showed up in sundresses or slacks (tie optional!) and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Derek and I both love the outdoors, so getting married outside in South Florida was a no-brainer. Derek is a History teacher and it only took one visit to the Historic 1905 New River Inn before we realized that it would be the perfect location for our wedding. My only fear was that I wouldn’t be able to pull off creating a wedding in a completely raw space.  Luckily, I had the help of family and friends to make sure it all come together.

My mother-in-law came up a week before the wedding and helped me finish up some of my last-minute projects and various friends came over to my house throughout the week to help put together programs, paint signs, and cut out table numbers. It was important for me to have as many personal details as possible. I created the programs, signs, and invitations.  My bridemaids wore personalized bracelets with our wedding colors, the groomsman wore cufflinks that featured a map cut-out of their hometown, and Derek and I wore charms on our bouquet and boutonniere with a picture of a family member who was no longer with us. The most important detail, however, were our charity wedding favors. Derek’s family is very involved in Organ Donor awareness so in lieu of favors we made a donation to The Transplant Foundation, an organization which provides financial and emotional support to people in need of an organ transplant as well as their families. Each seat got a green bracelet promoting organ donation and a card with the explanation of the charity.

We got married in a gazebo adjacent to the New River Inn and had our reception on the east side of the building, right next to the New River.  After the ceremony our guest threw colorful pom-poms at us as we walked back down the aisle forever joined as husband and wife. After pictures with family and our bridal party while our guest enjoyed cocktail hour, we re-joined the party, eating until our bellies were full and then broke it down on the dance floor and took turns taking pictures in our fauxto-booth for the rest of the night.  At the end of the night we made our grand exit via bike taxi.

Jackson Hole Wedding by Carrie Patterson Photography

When we first discovered (and promptly fell in love with) Carrie Patterson it was through the photographs of what remains to be one of SMP’s most beloved weddings. It was a wedding that pretty much convinced me that Jackson Hole is one of the most beautiful places on earth and just happens to provide one of the most stunning backdrops for ANY wedding, no matter what the style may be. So when we found ourselves staring at yet another Jackson Hole beaut, well we knew we couldn’t keep this one to ourselves. It’s the epitome of laid back gorgeousness with details that are as effortless as they are stunning. So without further ado…(oh and don’t forget to click on the gallery to see even more)…

From the Bride…I wanted the wedding day to be pretty and romantic and at the same time reflect something significant about the life David and I have together.  So I chose a color scheme that came to me one morning while hiking up Glory Mountain with David to squeeze in some backcountry skiing before work.  As the sun came up over the mountains it cast an incredible peach glow across the snow and threw every boot print into an equally stunning bluish shadow.  Even though our wedding would be in the heat of summer, these elegant muted colors seemed to fit our quiet characters perfectly. I designed the invitations, programs, and menus in these colors, reinforcing the natural theme with motifs of mountain ridges and soaring eagles. On the wedding day, Sarajane, from Lily and Co., flawlessly interpreted the flower images I brought to her.  The soft peach garden roses from a local grower were the highlight against the delicate blue flowers and berries.

We decided to hold the ceremony in a small log cabin chapel at the northern end of Grand Teton National Park.  The setting was perfectly quaint and rustic.  Adding to the spiritual feeling of the day were moose and bear visitors that greeted us from afar as we drove to and from the ceremony location.  The reception at Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis was unparalleled because it offered our guests – many from out-of-town – a spectacular view of the mountains at sunset.  The band lit up the dance floor with a series of country western favorites, to which our guests happily practiced the western swing moves they had learned at the rehearsal dinner.

To add some significant family touches to the occasion, my mother and I baked up special sugar cookie favors from an old family recipe using the cookie cutters my great-grandfather made over 100 years ago.  The pearl necklace I wore was my great-grandmother’s. Instead of table numbers, I drew local animals and placed them in frames at each table.  For escort cards, I painted guests’ names on river rocks which I had collected from the dike along the Snake River.  This is where David and I had our first date and where he asked me to marry him.  Every element of the wedding reflected us as a couple, the histories and inheritance which we carry into our future lives together, and the Jackson Hole area where we met and fell in love.

From the Bride…Chris and I were married on July 22, 2011.  It was important to us to have a wedding that honored our friends, families and our personal style.  Since I grew up in Michigan and Chris grew up in Boston, we wanted to select a location that would be different and special for us and all of our guests.  Beaulieu Garden was one of three venues we decided to check out while on a trip to California in the Fall of 2010.  From the moment we stepped inside the gates to the tree-lined entrance, we instantly fell in love.  From the ceremony garden, to the cocktail garden, to dinner under the arbor and the reception among the vineyards and mountains, it was magical.

We wanted our wedding to be simple, yet elegant, and the food, drink, and decor reflected that.  Guests were greeted with lemonade & mint served in mason jars, ice cream cones were offered in lieu of the traditional cake, and “late night snacks” of mini grilled cheese and french fries in paper cones were served.  We also wanted to tie in some vintage elements – like the library card catalogue that held guests place cards, and the distressed door with old family photos pinned to it.  I loved the balance of these old pieces against the crystal chandeliers and formal garden. We tried to tie in as much of our family history as we could because we recognized this day was as much about those who have loved and supported us along the way, as it was about us.  We were lucky enough to have Fr. George Charnley, the priest who married my parents and baptized my sisters and I, fly to California to marry us, which was incredibly special.  About two months before the wedding, my mom suggested framing small photos or “lockets” of each set of grandparents to tie into my bouquet —  and I thought this was such a beautiful way to honor all of them.

We had the opportunity to work with so many amazing people during this process — including our photographer, Brook Todd, who captured the day so beautifully.  He went above and beyond by recommending our rehearsal dinner location, hotel options, and the band.  On top of that, he’s just really fun to be around – we’re searching for an excuse to work with him again!  We also worked with Three Sisters Event Planning here in Boston, and they were amazing at staying on top of every detail, while designing our entire event from start to finish.  Dream a Little Dream Events in San Francisco helped us find our amazing florist and hair & make-up artist, and made sure the actual day went off without a hitch! Above all else, we have the most amazing parents, who inspire us to be good to each other and ourselves.

I met the most amazing human being on the planet when I found Chris, and I was lucky enough to marry him last July.  He can make me laugh so hard it hurts, and make me want to be a better person — all at the same time.  It was such an unforgettable day for us, made even more special by all of the family and friends that traveled so far to be there.  There are no words to describe how much that meant to us.

Villagio Inn Winery Wedding from Kim & Niki, Photographers

This couple wanted their wedding to emulate an alfresco dinner & wine tasting, and the definitely got what they asked for. The relaxed and fun vibe pouring out of all the images of Kim & Niki, Photographers, is so obvious, I’m almost reaching for my glass of wine and heading out to the dance floor. That gorgeous bride and handsome groom threw one amazingly stylish, and perfectly chic California affair that I won’t be able to stop thinking about for weeks. If you’re ready to dedicate a few weeks obsessing over this fantastic fête, click here for the full image gallery!

From the beginning, we knew that we wanted our wedding to feel like a fun cocktail party, not too regimented or formal.  Wine tasting is one of our favorite past times, and I’ve always wanted a winery wedding.  Matt loved the idea of a weekend getaway, so we needed a place that offered accommodations.  The Villagio Inn & Spa offers all of that, plus multiple locations in one venue – outdoor ceremony lawn, alfresco dining space, and historic barrel room for dancing.

We wanted our colors to be bold and rich, and to play-off the natural winery colors.  So, we chose ranges of oranges and purples in various shades.  Oranges were reserved for the groom’s side and purples for the bride’s side.  To maintain a fun cocktail party look and feel, we decided on a “mismatched-but matching” wedding party.  I picked out each of the purple dresses for the girls – it was a quite challenge to make the style look cohesive, but still unique!   We let the guys wear any khaki suit of their choice, and the ties and pocket squares were purchased from Etsy.  We even had a grooms woman (one of Matt’s close friends) in a similar colored khaki Jcrew dress, carrying an orange bouquet.  We put our ring bearer in a sweater vest instead of a suit, and flower girls in causal dresses from J.Crew.

In an effort to keep the ceremony casual and personal, we had a friend officiate it, and we wrote our own vows.  Kids were absolutely welcome at the wedding (Matt has nine nieces and nephews!), and they added to the fun vibe to the dance floor.  To capture the causal feel, it was important that the photography was fun, flirty and not too structured – especially the group shots.  That’s what we LOVE about Kim & Niki’s style.  We’re obsessed with the attitude and charm they were able to capture in the wedding party and family shots.

Our wedding surpassed our expectations!  We’re thrilled that, with the help of amazing vendors and supportive friends and family, we were able to pull off such a perfect wedding!

From Becca Rillo Photography‘Fresh’ and ‘romantic’ were the two words that we wanted to convey when we came up with the concept for this beautiful styled shoot. While we love the vintage trend that is incredibly popular, we wanted to stay away from the overly antique look and go more towards a soft, classic look that still carried the wistful emotion that we were going for. What we love more than anything are the details so we tried to capture them throughout the entire shoot… from the black accents on the flowers to the little flag on the straw down to the little birdcage on the table! We wanted to create images that you could look at over and over and always see something new.
