Fargo Wedding by Katie Lewis Photography, Inc.

There is so much pretty in this museum wedding by Katie Lewis Photography, Inc., I am going to start off by saying you will need to spend some serious time today in the gallery. We usually save that advice for the end, but it needs to be front in center for this Fargo fête! The entire affair is full of perfectly pretty details that need to be seen, for example – how fun is their “make a masterpiece” guestbook? Just love it. See what I mean? There is so much more see, so be sure to set aside some time for the full gallery on your calendar today!

From the Bride…After we got engaged, my head started spinning about what kind of wedding to have. We tossed around a destination wedding, intimate lakeside wedding and the big hotel ballroom wedding. Ultimately, we decided to have our reception in a historic agricultural warehouse, turned art museum, in the heart of downtown Fargo. After several pros and cons lists, it boiled down to – 1) wanting to accommodate as many family members and friends as possible 2) Having a wedding that reflected us.

The museum was significant for a few reasons. First, it is downtown Fargo…not a huge downtown, but a quaint, artistic area that is the backdrop for our lives. We met downtown, live downtown and for three years I worked and Ben went to school downtown. It felt fitting we would show our out-of-town guests where we spend our days. Also, the museum is kitty-corner to where we first met. He was a second-year architecture student and I worked for the university. I saw him walking to class one day and knew I wanted to meet him. Months later we spoke for the first time at a downtown bar. (About one year and  eight months later he proposed to me by setting up a scavenger hunt, strategically placing clues at meaningful locations. Many of the clues were downtown.) During the reception, it was cool to look out of the third-floor window and see the building where everything started. Lastly, Ben and I both love design. I have taken several interior design classes and he graduated in May with an architecture degree, so picking an architecturally interesting building seemed perfect for us.

For the look of the wedding we wanted it to be simple and timeless with vintage touches. We also tried to infuse our day with as many special family touches as possible. By our guest book, we displayed photos from our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings. The candy buffet offered homemade candy, including chocolate suckers and mints made by Ben’s mom and caramels made by his grandmother. My sister sewed the ring bearer pillows using special fabric from my Grandma Lil and buttons from my Grandma Eleanor. (Both are no longer with us, so it was special to have something small of theirs in our ceremony.) I also used a silver and blue pin from my Grandma Eleanor for my something blue, attached to my bouquet. The silver goblets at the head table were used at Ben’s parents wedding and Ben’s uncle sewed handkerchiefs with our names and wedding date on it. At our dance, we did an anniversary dance starting with Ben’s parents first song, “Can I have this dance.”

Our colors were light lavender (looks more blue in photos), cream and black, with touches of pink. I wanted the wedding to feel light and airy, like my favorite season – spring. The museum had some strict decorating policies – nothing hanging, nothing attached to walls, no candles. But we didn’t mind, because the building is so beautiful on its own with lots of natural light, beautiful wood floors and  exposed brick, we didn’t want to distract from it. But I do love candles and I’m not a fan of fake ones. So to still get a soft glow on some of the tables, I worked with my coworker who is a graphic designer (who also designed our save-the-dates, invitations and programs) to design a candle holder wrap out of vellum. It covered the plastic tea lights and tied into the rest of our printed pieces. One of Ben’s ideas was to have the guests create a painting together. We mixed some colors the night before the wedding and set out an easel, canvas and the paints for guests to make a mark. We ended up with a playful piece of art that will forever remind us of our day.

From the Bride…Vince and I met in September of 2006.  My cousins and I were in Las Vegas for my 21st birthday at the same time as Vince was there with his friends visiting from Italy. Although we had been to two of the same weddings earlier that summer in Chicago, Vince and I did not have a formal meeting until this night out in Vegas. We hung out, got to talking and clicked right away.  Vince asked if we could hang out again at home and I said yes.  Once we were back in Chicago, Vince and I went on a few dates a couple of weeks later.  It was easy for us to see that we had many things in common and had instant chemistry.  We have been together ever since.

For our big day there were many things that were a must. My sister Rita passed away five years ago and it was the most important thing for me to keep her close to me throughout my wedding day.  My cousins gave me a locket with my picture and Rita’s picture in it. I decided to pin it to my wedding bouquet so I could hold her in my hands and remember my angel watching over me.  We also lit a candle in her memory at church and had a poem in our program to remember her by. Besides this, Vince and I wanted to make sure that our guests had a great time and enjoyed themselves at our reception. We had a band as well as a DJ to play a variety of classic and contemporary songs.  We both come from large extended families and we wanted to try to make our wedding as intimate as possible given the size of our event. We had over 550 guests. We also wanted to highlight our Italian background – we had an English and Italian ceremony and food at our reception was extremely important.  We put much thought into our cocktail hour, our reception dinner menu, and our sweet table room.

It really is all about the details when creating an elegant event – and there were so many details to think about when planning a wedding! As a bride, I always envisioned an elegant formal affair. One of the most fun parts of wedding planning was picking out my wedding dress.  I ended up picking out the first dress I tried on – as it was everything I had wanted. It was full at the bottom with a beaded belt.  The look on my mother and aunt and cousins’ faces when they saw me in this dress helped me know that this was the one.   I felt like a princess in it! The flowers were also a big part of the planning.  We used huge white bouquets of flowers with hanging crystals and hints of pale pink that matched the color of the bridesmaids dresses. The up lighting in light purples and pinks also set the tone of the wedding against the sleek white dance floor with our wedding “logo” on it.  We made sure that every detail matched the look we were going for – classic yet chic, elegant yet fun.

Folly River Park Wedding by KDE Photography

Personally, the closer I am to the ocean the happier I am – so this South Carolina soiree by KDE Photography has my full attention. So kick off your shoes, slip your feet in the sand, and come see what all the fuss is about in the full gallery of images!

From the Bride…Our wedding was April 30, 2011. The evening ceremony took place on the west end of Folly Beach and the outdoor tented reception was held at the Folly River Park, located along side the Folly River. There was a lot of chaos due to a local event having to use our wedding day as their rain date! Regardless of the craziness, it was absolutely perfect! We knew we wanted a casual no-fuss wedding (if there is such a thing), and decided the beach was the perfect way to go!

The decor and inspiration was the location itself. I didn’t want to take away from the natural beauty, by adding a lot of “stuff”. I tried to keep all decor as minimal as possible, including the color scheme. I didn’t want to over-do the “beach theme” as I have seen done so many times!  I ordered white cymbidium orchids, seeded eucalyptus and curly willow branches for the centerpieces. I filled the 23″ cylinder vases found here and there with white sea shells my husband and I collected on the beach.  I made table runners and cocktail table ties from burlap fabric and finished the centerpiece by adding pedestal tea light candle holders. The napkins were also a “burlap” color. My bouquet was made with white hydrangea, white cymbidium orchids, white ranunculus, and seeded eucalyptus. The bridesmaid bouquets were bundles of white hydrangea and the boutonnieres were made of a galax leaf backing, a single orchid and seeded eucalyptus. All of which were wrapped with a linen ribbon. I also used  driftwood I collected on the wish book/gift table and an occasional large piece of coral or shell.

We did a sand blending ceremony, and used an hourglass my grandfather hand-made for us. The cupcakes were made by Crystal at Sweet Memories Cakery and Designs, who I found on Craigslist. Her cupcakes were beautiful and delicious, everyone raved about them…not to mention much cheaper than any other I found! As a gift to my husband, I ordered him custom-made cufflinks of vintage maps, one being Charleston (where he is from) and the other of Bellows Falls, VT (where I am from). I ordered these from Etsy shop dlkdesigns. One of the bridesmaids also, one of my best friends is so talented and made me foot jewelry to wear on the beach. She also has an Etsy shop at Dominiquegodfrey. A friend of my mother’s made us a “Wish Book”, taking the inspiration from our invitations, and our favors were specially made koozies with the Gamecocks logo starting our last name. The bridesmaid dresses came from J.Crew and the suits were rented from Berlin’s Formal Wear. The men’s ties were designed by me and specially made from Etsy shop, TuxandTulle. The cute flower girl dresses were specially made by FattiePie on Etsy. The invitations were designed, created printed, cut and assembled by me. We received so many compliments on them as well as the wedding.

From the Bride… Jeremy told me that I have an amazing ability to ruin proposals. He tried proposing to me three different times. ( I guess the third time’s a charm!)  For a while I had been teasing him about how un-romantic he is, so one night he told me to get dressed up and that we were going to a really nice restaurant. We went out to Kiepersol Estates Winery; it was delicious!  After dinner I remember thinking to myself, wow I guess he really is trying to be romantic! And I thought that was so sweet!! When we left the winery, we drove to go look at the lot he has purchased for us to build our house on, which was normal, he always wants to look at it even though all it has on it is dirt and a little bit of grass. He had claimed he could see something out in the middle of the lot, so he got out of the car to look at it. When he came back, he came to my side of the car, got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him! I thought it was the perfect place! It’s where we will be starting our lives together and start a family. Plus, in years to come when our children ask me how and where their daddy proposed, I can just walk to the front door and show them!

Our photographer was Gema Blanton out of Tyler. Everything turned out exactly the way I had imagined it would and thanks to Gema, it was even better! My fiance and I both love being outside and we both grew up out in the country. So there was only one place to do our engagement portraits… outside! My parents have some land down a county road in East Texas that I knew would be the perfect place for our pictures. So we went to a few of my favorite places. I also wanted to keep everything sentimental. I wore necklaces that Jeremy has given me, bracelets my parents had given me, a bracelet my grandfather made for me, and of course since we were out in a hay field and back in the woods I had to wear my favorite cowgirl boots!

I knew I wanted Gema to take a few pictures of Jeremy and I having a picnic. I love picnics, I think they are so cute and romantic! So I got my favorite quilt, my great-grandmother hand stitched it, and grabbed two beautiful crystal wine glasses my great-aunt had given to Jeremy and I, and what’s a picnic without cake?? I had some delicious red velvet cake from my favorite bakery, Chez Bazan in Tyler.

When the sun was starting to set and we were done with our picnic, we went to the backside of my parents’ property. My favorite place is back in the woods, I am in love with a tree back there. It’s a huge pine tree that has grown almost in the shape of a chair It amazes me how nature can form trees that are so interesting. I had an idea to take pictures at dusk/dark around that tree with lights strung around all the surrounding trees. The pictures Gema took were even better than what I had imagined. All in all, I had so much fun with our photographer and I know my fiance did too. I am so thankful that she got him to do a “real smile!”

Hotel Seven4One Wedding from The EVENT Company + Joseph Martinez

Before I gush for days about this pretty in pink affair (don’t worry – I’ll get there) can I just say – this Laguna Beach bride is GORGEOUS? Seriously, total bride crush happening on my side of the computer right now. Okay. Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way – how freakin’ fabulous is this wedding? I’m dying over the rosy ambiance the whole wedding, designed by Inviting Occasions, has got going on. The day started with the aforementioned beautiful bride and her rosy cheeks, and ended with the fabulously PINK reception, courtesy of The EVENT Company, and every little detail in between was obviously seen through rose colored glasses. Joseph Martinez Photography was on hand to capture it all – and boy was it all stunning. Click here for more!

For those of you who need a little more of this gorgeous affair (guilty) click here for the highlight film from The EVENT Company!

Mitchell proposed to me at the foot of our bed.  I knew it was coming and I was so nervous, I was avoiding him the whole time, walking into the bathroom, picking up… He finally had to grab me and said,  “Babe!  I’m trying to propose!”  It was so cute and perfect. We’re really private people… I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

We had just a few criteria for our venue. One, we wanted to stay in Laguna Beach, and two, we wanted a place where everyone from out of town could stay and not have to worry about transportation.  So when my good friend and co worker suggested Hotel Seven4one, it was an easy decision.  We reserved the entire hotel for the weekend. It was like our own private beach house, but everyone got their own room and bathroom.

As far as our wedding style, I wanted a soft, whimsical, romantic, yet fun wedding.  I think Larrissa really got it… and executed all of the decoration and design beautifully!  I changed my mind so many times on color, but by the end, I had to go with my favorite color… pink. And I’m so happy I did!

Mitch and I both wanted a fun party after our ceremony, so instead of a formal sit down dinner, we had a cocktail reception where everyone could roam the hotel and mingle with whomever they chose.

We both decided our favorite and most vivid memory from the wedding is definitely the ceremony.  When I turned the corner to walk down the isle, it was so beautiful and Mitch was so handsome.  I was overwhelmed with happiness!  Every thing else is sort of a blur.

From the Bride… Our wedding was held at a historic plantation home in Spring Hill, TN called Rippavilla. The theme was very vintage-chic, and girly! Vintage was my theme for planning the wedding, that is why I went with floral touches, bird cages, and a lace wedding gown. We used lots of pinks and whites. We used peonies, and LOTS of flower petals. My bridesmaids wore one-sleeved long flowy, watermelon pink dresses. We were on a TIGHT budget of $5,000, not including the dress which I got for a steal at only $800.00 AFTER tax and alterations. I did EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING myself. I spent countless hours researching. It was well worth it because we saved tons of money, and had a beautiful wedding!!!

Out of Africa Inspiration Shoot by Aharon Hill Photography + Lauren Lee-Crane

I love getting inspiration from old books or movies and creating something that feels like a classic love story but is modern at the same time.  Aharon Hill Photography and Lauren Lee-Crane (whose own wedding we featured last week!) did just that for this fun Out of Africa inspiration shoot.  They were able to create the essence and feel of the film without being too literal by incorporating interesting patterns, textures and colors.  I especially love the paper goods with chevron details which give off a vintage, safari-vibe but also stays current and chic.  The full gallery has even more from this gorgeous shoot that shouldn’t be missed!

Click here to see the entire gallery of images!

From Aharon Hill PhotographyWhen stylist, Lauren Lee-Crane, was pondering our wedding shoot theme, she didn’t want to do the usual rustic charm wedding.  She wanted to create something natural and inspiring, but stay away from trends.  Instead, she drew her inspiration from one of her all time favorite movies: Out of Africa.

What I love most about how Lauren pulled this together, is how the images do not look at all like carbon copies of the movie, but how Lauren’s choice of colors and styling elements still evoke a strong sense of the movie.  Also staying true to the film, Lauren opted not to portray Africa using cliché safari imagery and animal prints. The result is stunning, and like no other wedding I’ve photographed.

Hamilton Hall Wedding by EFD Creative – Event Planning & Design

I have a serious obsession with historical buildings (yep, I am a nerd), so when I saw that these beyond lovely Salem nuptials were held at Hamilton Hall (Originally built in 1805!), I literally jumped for joy.  And the giddiness didn’t stop there, because each and every amazing moment crafted by the geniuses at EFD Creative – Event Planning & Design is out-of-this-world fabulous… And most definitely of the jumping for joy kind.  And with a fresh color palette of yellow and blue, gorgeous lantern centerpieces, stunning florals by Studio 539 Flowers and breathtaking images by Eric Barry Photography, there’s so much more lovely just waiting to be adored.  Join me in the gallery for even more!

From EFD Creative – Event Planning & DesignJackie and Carolyn were thrilled to be engaged, but they lived in Atlanta, Georgia where same-sex marriage is not legal. The couple immediately thought of Massachusetts, which not only recognizes same-sex marriages, it is where Carolyn attended college at Boston University, and where they both had personal ties – making it the perfect destination wedding! They wanted a venue that had elegance as well as a historical feel to match the region. What could be more perfect than Hamilton Hall in historic Salem, Mass.?

Originally built in 1805 as an assembly hall, Hamilton Hall was named in honor of the famous American forefather, Alexander Hamilton, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971. The design of the Grand Ballroom has unique detailed touches with imported Russian mirrors, Palladian (European style) windows, and Italian sconces and chandeliers. The old kitchen, known as the Brick Hearth Room, has the original oven built into the wall. Altogether, this captured the old New England essence perfectly. Jackie and Carolyn were very excited to incorporate the history of New England into their special day.

Their wedding dresses were classically timeless…soft and flowing. To bring in elements that enhanced the feel of the era, tea was the theme for favors and place cards were displayed in loose tea, which not only looked beautiful but also left an aroma in the air. The wedding was in early April. Bright yellows and blues were the accent colors along with lanterns (think Paul Revere) placed on each table. The lanterns alternated between flowers inside the lantern encircled by candles, or a candle inside the lantern surrounded by old milk bottles filled with flowers. The brown pin-tuck linen and gold chiavari chairs finished the look. The signature drink of the evening was none other than “The Alexander Hamilton.” Instead of a traditional guest book, the couple continued with the theme by having a restored old-fashioned typewriter displayed with matching note paper. Guests enjoyed typing out special messages to be later placed in a memory album.

Jackie and Carolyn’s wedding offers a great example of how to incorporate the charm of a bygone era through a few well thought-out touches and the right venue. While New England has so many options for an early American-style wedding, the wonderful appeal of New England is its diversity. Between the history, the scenic beaches and mountains, and the four seasons, New England offers the perfect destination for any type of wedding.

Queens County Farm Museum Wedding by InfocusNYC Photography

This sweet, DIY wedding proves that just because you live in a huge city, amidst all the hustle and bustle, doesn’t mean you can find a quiet retreat just a short drive away for your big day. We’re loving the quaint, country feel and of course, that cute little sheep! How could you not? The bride is a designer so it was no surprise that she created many of the elements that gave her wedding such personality like the escort cards and cake topper. InfocusNYC Photography was there to capture all the details and there’s so much more in the full gallery.

From the Bride…After living in NYC for 4 years I finally met the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with.  We were engaged after a year and a few months of dating, but it took 2 and a half years of saving for that perfect day.  Saving, designing and preparing for the wedding took longer than expected but we couldn’t have done it any other way.  Myself being from Texas with the majority of my family still living there, I knew I wanted the day to feel like a piece of home.  Luckily, I found the perfect location 20 minutes outside of NYC at the Queens County Farm Museum.  They also recommended the perfect caterer that was able to work within our budget.  We also had a great photographer that was able to capture all of the great moments of the day. Being a designer and a natural do-it-yourselfer, I was able to keep the wedding cost down.  I designed our save the dates, invitations, and escort cards.  I even painted our cake topper.  After months of collecting antique aqua mason jars my parents found a florist in Queens to make the table arrangements, short notice nonetheless.  My now husband created the playlist for the ceremony and we had a friend recommend a DJ that made our reception unforgettable.  All of these things ended up being perfect for our day.

Cross Creek Ranch Wedding by Caroline & Evan Photography

There’s nothing quite like a rustic chic soiree to cure those mid-week blues and this stunning Cross Creek Ranch affair is just what the doctor ordered and more with its gorgeous yellow and gray hues, breathtaking ceremony space and stunning bride and groom.  Plus, the favors are mason jars filled with trail mix and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I l.o.v.e that.  It’s a good thing that Caroline & Evan Photography was on hand to capture each and every amazing moment (Did I mention the bonfire with s’mores?), because I have some serious swooning to do.  Join me in the gallery for all of the pretty!

From the Bride… Girl from upstate NY marries boy from the South. A rustic ranch wedding in the spring, with BBQ and trail mix served in mason jars, was in order for us when saying, “I DO!”  We named the tables after places that meant something to us and made round escort cards that hung on a clothesline for guests to find their tables. The ring bearer/flower girl are brother and sister but not quite old enough to walk the aisle and sit still so we used a wagon to pull them in and still include them! We also incorporated birds where we could (as you can see on the invite and cupcakes, as well as walking down the aisle).  For fun, we had horseshoes, a bonfire with s’mores, dancing and also a photo booth with props.

Independence, Oregon Wedding by Erich McVey Photography

Not only does the man know how to take one amazing image after another but the style savvy details are jam-packed in this beauty. It’s an Oregon tale of Bride and Groom meet a gorgeous yellow-hued wedding and celebrate the night a way under the stars. Sounds fab, right? And might I just add the SMP office is a buzz over the Bride’s choice of lippy. Our smackers are green with envy over that perfect red hue. From the Bride…Brent and I have been friends since 7th grade, where we met somewhere between AOL instant messaging and middle school dances. In high school we continued to stay friends as my best friends (the “Sprague girls”) would always hang out with his best friends (the “South boys”) on the weekends, seeing how neither of us were content with hanging out with any members of the opposite sexes at our own schools. Between multiple dances, dates and relationships within various people in our crowds, the “Brent-Liz love story” never happened… until nine years into our friendship. Every summer, winter break, and spring break into the college years called for the usual hangouts at our friends Ben’s house, also Brent’s best friend. Throughout high school and college we all grew accustomed to hanging out in Ben’s kitchen whenever we were all home. That July [2009] was no exception. Ben was home for a short period of time from California; Liz’s BFF Abby was home for the weekend from Seattle; and “the South-Sprague gang” got together to hang out in Ben’s kitchen. Just like the good old times. The evening progressed and Brent and I struck up a friendly, heartfelt and humorous conversation at the kitchen table. And from there history was made! After two weeks of wooing on Brent’s part (the planner in Liz wasn’t sure if it would work out, and dating a good friend could ruin the whole nine-year friendship AND the “South-Sprague” dynamics if something turned for the worst), Liz was pretty much head over heels. Fast forward to February 2010… Brent told me he loved me (First girl Brent loved. First boy I loved… and last for both of us). Then came December 2010 and we were engaged and planning away!

The people. We are blessed with amazing friends and family, and without those lovely little faces there, the wedding wouldn’t have been as perfect and memorable. Along with that, the thought and care that went into planning the Sara-table meant a lot to me. Sara is one of my best friends, roommates and bridesmaids that passed away two months before the wedding due to cancer. That led to my favorite, yet sincere, “I don’t care” phrase. It’s hard to care about silly linen colors or arrangements of flowers when you are just trying to focus on being happy. And I was okay with not caring because Brent took over. He truly is the best guy in the world. Back to the Sara-table, it was one of the ways I wanted to honor Sara since she was watching from above, but not physically at our wedding. We used an old green chest from the apartment that Sara and I had lived together in, and dedicated the table to her. It was filled with pictures of her, pictures of Sara and I, and pictures of Sara, Brent and I. Along with that, there were several pictures she had painted for me while kicking chemos butt. And to save the best for last, we had a jar full of Oreos there, as they were Sara’s favorite cookie and her post-chemo diet. Her family was at the wedding and were able to take her bouquet home, which meant a lot to me as well.

One of my favorite DIY projects were the memory chalkboards. Brent and I chose food that was perfect and “Brent and Liz-esque” in every way. We chose “food with a memory.” To help our guests understand a sense of what the food meant to us, we made mini chalkboards and placed them next to particular foods. For example, next to the tea sandwiches we had a board that explained my connection to tea parties, because my grandmother, mom and I would go to a tea parlor growing up and I was allowed tea with only one lump of sugar, but as many cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches as I wanted. One of Brent’s chalkboards was at the gelato food cart. It told about his second lover: coffee. We had the selection of coffee gelato because of his extreme love for quality coffee (a love that I sadly do not share, which makes this relationship with coffee even that much more important). It was food that represented us, and food that we had made memories with.

The Inn at Perry Cabin Wedding from CinemaCake + Susan Stripling

This wedding had me at that adorable ring bearer. Sweet little ring bearers in the cutest duds ever plus puppies? Kryptonite. (You can even catch a few of his sweet dance moves in the fantastic highlight film). So now that I’ve professed my adoration for that adorable ring bearer, I’ve got two more to make. Yep, I’m feeling sappy today. The highlight film from CinemaCake Filmmakers. You HAVE to block out a few minutes of your day to watch this. And I mean block out – because it is so intimate, you totally feel like you’re right there with this beautiful bride and groom on their big day. And you’ll cry. At least I did. And finally, I must profess my total and utter love for this Maryland wedding, captured brilliantly by Susan Stripling Photography. It’s so romantic and beautiful, filled with some of the most perfect little details I’ve ever seen. See all those pretty little deets in the full image gallery!

I just can’t wait to show you the highlight CinemaCake sent our way – so before we get too far into the affair, here we go. Warning – grab some tissues. And I hope your mascara is waterproof.

Evan shocked me when he proposed in Monte Carlo in 2007 – so much so that I thought he was kidding. On the flight home I immersed myself in wedding magazines and lived wedding all the time. Our plans became so big, so overwhelming we both took a step back and said we want simple and we want elegance. At this point I found Style Me Pretty and it was my “ah ha!” moment.

I wanted to merge my simple upbringing in rural Pennsylvania and our busy city lifestyle in Baltimore. I wanted elegance with a touch of whimsy. As a child my parents vacationed in Saint Michaels, MD at the Inn at Perry Cabin. I have fond memories of watching the sailboats from the patio and chasing my sister through the gardens.  I realized this place felt like home and this was where I wanted to be married.

Our wedding of 120 could not be accommodated indoors so we resorted to an outdoor tented reception and ceremony.  My ceremony was rained out so the Inn quickly turned one of their indoor spaces into a ceremony site. Candles filled the room with a rose petal runner and copper lanterns lined the aisle. My florist made huge flower and moss balls which were relocated from the lawn to the ceremony site and then moved to the tented reception. They added that touch of whimsy I was looking for. My florist also made hanging cones from birch bark that were intended to hang from the tree branches along with small glass globes illuminated with tea lights. The birch cones were relocated to the tent and filled with David Austin roses. Although it was not the waterfront ceremony we were expecting, it turned into something beautiful and warm–and believe it or not– a welcomed surprise despite the rain.

My Watters & Watters dress looked handmade and vintage and paired perfectly with my red Valentino d’Orsay pumps. My husband wore a blue and white striped suit with a gardenia boutonnière.  My bridesmaids wore beige colored linen, knee length dresses and carried bouquets of cream hydrangeas.

I hired the fabulous Susan Stripling to freeze the day and CinemaCake to capture the moving visuals. At the entrance to our tent we hung place cards on an old barn shutter I found at an antique shop. The place cards from Kate Spade had sayings that read “Playing Footsie is Encouraged” or “Save room for Dessert”.

One of my favorite childhood movies is Alice in Wonderland, and to add to the whimsy theme we lined champagne glasses and attached coffee stained hang tags that read  “drink me,” which our guests enjoyed. The kids table was outfitted with oversized lollipops and small trinkets to keep them busy. I really loved the tissue poms I found on Etsy and bribed my attendants’ with wine and kind sentiments to help make smaller poms into napkin rings. Most of the women at the wedding actually wore them as bracelets after dinner.

I would say the home run of the evening was our photo booth from Baltimore Photo Booth Company. They provided props and I honestly could not fathom the amount of joy it would bring my family. Everyone, including my 80 year old grandmother, was in the photo booth laughing hysterically. They were able to take home a souvenir and the photo booth company also gave my husband and me a book with a copy of each photo taken that evening. We had an after party by the huge fireplace inside the inn. I had rented couches and the Inn provided pillows and blankets. Everyone enjoyed rum spiked cider, peppermint hot cocoa and roasted s’mores.  It was a great end to a fabulous day.

Mod Brunch Inspiration Shoot by White Room Events

I don’t know what it is about Australia but it seems like everything that comes out of there is so fresh and so chic.  Take this awesome brunch inspiration shoot by White Room Events.  I have been a huge fan of their work for quite some time now and it just gets better and better.  This shoot definitely has a sixties flair but it is super modern at the same time with so many fun ideas that could easily be used in a wedding of any style.  I’m crazy about the Protea bouquet, the ribbon runner and the chic color palette.  See all the fabulous details in the full gallery!

From White Room EventsWe hope you love this simple, Australian ‘mod’ wedding brunch, Emily from White Room Events was inspired by 60’s icon Twiggy, a mission to bring back the beehive hairstyle and the idea of a court-house wedding, a cute peach vintage dress with heavily beaded collar found on Etsy was the starting point, from there we wanted to use beautiful king proteas, they are such a gorgeous flower.

Shot by Jennifer Sando at Adelaide’s hippest boutique hotel, The Hotel Richmond, we made use of the stunning art deco windows, set a little intimate table for 6, we used colored ribbon topped with a metallic glitter ribbon as the runner, and to accent the bride and grooms places, blooms by Lotus Flowers filled painted recycled jars, we used natives mixed with roses, dotted with silvery gum nuts. The bouquet was bold and beautiful, a king protea with trailing eucalyptus my favorite bouquet so far. The cake by Sweet Treats stood proudly with a modern asymmetrical style, but with pretty peach and metallic detail, top with a single native bloom.

We styled a very simple waffle station, yum, complete with all the toppings, like blueberry sauce, maple syrup, chocolate chips, and more, all the paper goods were designed and made by the clever Alicia of Akimbo with a mod detail using peach and grey tones. This was so much fun to work on, we hope you enjoy it out aim all along was to keep it simple and sweet.

From Ryon:LockhartWe were fortunate enough to be flown out from NY to CA to photograph this beautiful wedding weekend! Lauren and Matt are two incredibly loving people full of warm hugs and laughter and their wedding was nothing short of just that. We began our day getting ready at the gorgeous Hotel Sofitel. Lauren has such an incredible group of women in her life and it was so fun to watch them all interact and capture all the love and excitement in the room!

The Portola Valley Community Center is such a beautiful place to host a wedding! Super spacious and clean with trees as far as the eye can see. Lauren and Matt had a hand in just about every aspect of their wedding and their hard work and keen sense of  ‘laid back California style’ paid off!  The theme of the day was Rustic Romance and everything from the flowers to the cake to the ceremony were just perfect. Thank you so very much to Lauren and Matt and their families for including us in the weekend.  Your warm demeanor and genuine love and kindness remind us of what we love most about our job.

From PALETTERA Custom CorrespondencesAbsolutely stunning and refreshing, the wedding of Dr. Dorothy Li & Matthew Patterson, PhD was a beautiful summer affair that was held on the very campus that they studied at: the University of Toronto. Shot by Claudia Hung and papered by Palettera, the wedding was modern, classic, romantic and stylish. In a modern palette inspired by pink peonies and BCBG’s ink blue color, the wedding was particularly unique because the bridal party consisted of “bridal attendants”. Both Matt & Dorothy’s entourage consisted of 2 men and 2 women, which was an accurate reflection of their open-minded and friendly characters. They are such a lovely and well-educated couple that are loved by all.

Dorothy began the day at her house, where she was accompanied by her mom and sister to get ready for the traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Serving tea to Matt’s cute and wrinkly grandparents was one moment that has a special place in Matt’s heart. They proceeded downtown to Trinity College Chapel, which boasts beautiful architectural and beams of radiant natural light. Claudia then led them through downtown, where they had sessions in the industrial areas near their hotel. A beautiful reception then took place on the Park Hyatt rooftop, which oversees the best parts of Toronto, from the heart of Yorkville. Beautiful glass bowls of peony arrangements brought the ballroom to life.

The stationery details with the additional gold touch were absolutely gorgeous. The invitation featured hand-sewn silkscreened gold and ink blue paper on top of a blue satin belt, which grounded the prestigious and luxury gold foil press typography on the cover. On the inside, a cluster of blind debossed starbursts with Swarovski crystals complimented the deeply pressed text in both English and Chinese. Inserts were tucked into a hand-sewn pocket with deliberate ink blue seams. The invitations were the perfect counterpart to the lush bouquets of peonies and stefanosis flowers! Placecards were classy and uniquely portrait-styled, with the matching silkscreened gold pattern paper on a pale pink tent, topped with a small white square with the guests’ name and a Swarovski crystal. The seating chart was typeset to bring out the respectable nature and style of both the bride and groom’s families —- sleek, classic and timeless. Each table was named after a place that Matt & Dorothy have travelled to together — from Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, to Italy – they have travelled and backpacked to all different parts of the world.

Well-rounded, and highly educated, the bride and groom are both people who think and feel deeply for people. Their party was very cozy, and everyone had a great time gathering on the balcony 17  floors up from street level, overlooking Bloor. Guests had a blast in the photobooth of Claudia Hung’s infamous “Portraits on White”. It was truly an awesome evening. Favors were replaced by a generous donation to Doctors Without Borders Canada.

From the Bride… We got married on at the beautiful Austin Museum of Art Laguna Gloria in Austin, Texas on what was supposed to be a warm and sunny day.  I am a reporter at a local news station and all week (actually all month) long I was nagging our meteorologists to find out the exact forecast for that day.  Sunny and temperatures in the 70’s.  That’s what they all said.  When I woke up on that morning and heard rain, my heart sank.  I quickly checked the forecast: rain and a high of 56 degrees.  I had planned a mostly outdoor wedding on a lawn that overlooks Lake Austin.  My husband and I spend a lot of time on the lake so we wanted to incorporate that into our wedding.  The Italian-style villa on the property was supposed to be the backdrop.  When we realized it would be raining, my amazing wedding planner, Bethany Childress from 36th Street Events, acted quickly and put our “Plan B” into action.  Tents were put up over the back patios where the ceremony and dancing would now take place; cocktails and dinner were moved inside the villa.

I have to say that all day long, the weather really put a damper on my mood.  I had spent nearly a year and a half planning a wedding that was now going to be very different.  But once I arrived at Laguna Gloria and was surrounded by my mom and bridesmaids, I knew that it was still going to be a great wedding.  The minute I saw Justin I started crying out of complete happiness and realized I was not going to let the weather ruin this day.  We saw each other and took our pictures before the ceremony which really helped cheer me up and put me at ease before everything got started.  I didn’t shed more than two tears the rest of the night and I don’t think the smile left my face.  It was a beautiful, fun, and a bit soggy wedding.

My photographers, Austin Imagery, did an amazing job of capturing the details. I would say our wedding was mostly sweet & charming, with a little DIY and budget friendly mixed in. Our colors were green, pink and white.  One of my favorite things that day were my shoes–hot pink!  The groomsmen all had great shoes too–black Converse Chuck Taylors.  These are the shoes Justin wears almost on a daily basis.  On my bouquet we had the florist tie in a handkerchief that belonged to my grandmother as my “something old.” I bought a bunch of little emerald-green bud vases of different sizes and designs on eBay for the cocktail tables.  My sister-in-law, who used to be a florist, filled them with different white blooms.  For my bridesmaids, I ordered earrings from Etsy in different shades of green.  Another one of my favorite things were the white and green round lanterns hanging from the tents (these were supposed to hang from the trees in the non-rain plan).  On our sign-in table, my mom got this giant birdcage for guests to put cards and small gifts in.  We used sign-in cards in a little wooden box that looked like a recipe box in lieu of a sign-in book.

During cocktail hour we served a signature drink: Sweet-o-Titos made with Sweet Leaf Tea and Titos Vodka, both made in Austin.  We served cupcakes from my favorite Austin bakery in three flavors: Key Lime, Guinness and Vanilla.

Cranwell Resort and Golf Club Wedding by Kiss The Bride Films

I had some serious chill action happening as I watched this exquisite video by Kiss the Bride Films.  Not only is the cinematography absolutely breathtaking but the reading, the music and the sweet-as-can-be couple make such a beautiful and touching combination.  And the details, oh the details, they are absolutely as divine as the film itself from the birch elements to the gorgeous flowers!

Click here to see the entire gallery of images!

From Kiss The Bride FilmsThe celebration was all about rustic elegance — a view of the mountains, a birchwood chuppah assembled by the mother of the bride and draped with ivy and honeysuckle, bouquets of lavender and cascades of pure white orchids. The incredibly affectionate couple laughed throughout the simplified modern Jewish ceremony, which was marked by moments of beautiful intimacy.

Afterwards, guests sipped cocktails as the sun set behind the pines. At the reception, decadent desserts boasted the couples’ monogram (and caricatures!) on a table appropriately marked “Love is Sweet”. Kiss the Bride Films was so excited to work with the talented photographer Jen Huang. Her professionalism, positivity and sense of fun made her the perfect partner. Jackie and Brandon were a dream to film — and with two cinematographers, we were able to capture their love story from every gorgeous angle.

Zenith Vineyard Wedding from Vibrant Table + Kate Kelly

Okay. This Oregon vineyard wedding is beyond gorgeous. The eggplant hues, stunning vineyard, the beautiful bride – all beyond. Captured by Kate Kelly Photography, this phenomenal affair was planned, designed, flora’d and catered by Vibrant Table Catering & Events – and I’m sure I’m not the first to say that the all-star team at Vibrant Table totally hit the ball out of the park with this wedding. I’ve been swooning for days. Click here for more!

As soon as we got engaged I knew I wanted our wedding to be personal and to accurately reflect us as a couple.  Sports immediately came to mind as a “theme” my now husband and I wanted to incorporate into our special day because we were both athletes growing up and our love of sports has been a common interest between us since we met.  Baseball surfaced as the natural fit given my husband works as a college baseball coach.  Some elements we included throughout the wedding included tables named after stadiums, baseball wrapped chocolate favors, my Mets garter and, of course, our cake topper which featured a groom pitching and a bride at the plate.

Outside of the sports element, however, I wanted the day to be romantic and for our guests to have a wonderful time celebrating the love that we were committing to for the rest of our lives.  The venue – Zenith Vineyard – played an integral role in setting that context.  Nestled in Oregon’s beautiful wine country, Zenith represented our DREAM location with views during the ceremony and cocktail hour of lush rolling hills & vines along with an indoor reception space that featured iron chandeliers and a gorgeous fireplace.  Several DIY elements including the programs and menus created a personal touch and our color palette of grey, black and shades of purple – from lilac to eggplant – really made the greenery surrounding the winery pop!

Guests of the wedding continue to tell us how amazing (and filling!) the food was.  Vibrant Table catered the event and we opted for stations which featured many different options including seafood, beef, fresh salads, a selection of northwest cheeses and more!  Into the night, we refueled guests as they danced the night away with sliders and fries!

The day turned out to be exactly what we hoped for and, when I think back, the moment that stands out the most is when my husband and I recited the vows we wrote together to one another.  Even though we were surrounded by friends and family, it felt like only we were there in that moment…I still remember it vividly and I know I will for the rest of my life.
