Four Seasons Palm Beach Wedding by Captured Photography by Jenny

This wedding is a category all its own, the title of which has been deemed Palm Beach Pretty. Imagine layers upon layers of palm trees, the ocean mere steps away and peonies galore courtesy of Xquisite Events. Heaven, right? It’s classic meets the seashore and Captured Photography by Jenny was there to photograph all the loveliness unfold at the Four Seasons. Who, might I add, is a venue that really knows its way around a great wedding. The proof is in the pudding, or in this case, each and every gorgeous image. See it all here!

From the Bride…When Kyle and I got engaged in November 2010, we knew we wanted to get married the following fall, but a lot of other issues were up in the air.  We live in New York City and my father had recently been diagnosed with Leukemia. He was going to need to have a bone marrow transplant in February. Since the recovery from this procedure is very long and difficult, we decided to have the wedding in Palm Beach, Florida. My parents live near by and we could maximize the chance that he would be able to be with us that day.  I am thrilled to report that he was there to walk me down the aisle and do our father-daughter dance, which made the day that much more incredible.

As for the wedding itself, we decided on the Four Seasons in Palm Beach for both the ceremony and the reception, and I am so glad we did.  It was a great choice for a wedding of our size—100 people—which felt like a lively and fun party, but still quite intimate.  We both love the water, so being able to say our “I Dos” at sunset overlooking the ocean was perfect.  Our tastes both run fairly classic and clean, and I wanted our wedding to reflect that. So, we chose to keep the decorations very simple so that they would be tasteful and compliment, but not overwhelm, the stunning location.

I have always loved the color combination of pink and grey, so that was an easy choice. I adore J. Crew, so it was the natural choice for bridesmaids dresses. My dress was an Amsale sample which I had a tailor alter to make it original.  We lowered the belt a little, and took in some material around the hips to change it from an A-line to a trumpet shape.

The weather was gorgeous, and as the sun was setting the clouds glowed pink, grey, and blue, which perfectly complimented our color scheme.  I wish I could take credit for that one, but we just got really lucky!  As for the ballroom, the Four Seasons offers some complimentary gold dinnerware and tablecloths, so we decided to just run with that and compliment that color with the same pink we used in the ceremony.  I told Xquisite Events that I wanted a look that was modern, elegant, and romantic, with tons of candlelight, and I thought it ended up looking beautiful.   The whole day was so wonderful, it’s hard to pick any favorite moment, but I loved the way our colors ended up looking against the backdrop of the ocean and the sunset.  Walking down the aisle with my dad, seeing all of the people I love in the world smiling at me, and then seeing Kyle waiting for me at the altar was probably the best moment of my life.

Palm Springs Wedding by Celebrations of Joy! + Mi Belle Wedding Photography

What happens when two DreamWorks Animation artists fall in love and create an epic wedding in Palm Springs?  Well, for me, a case of mild obsession starts to set in.  OK, mild might be the understatement of the year.  It’s so hard to contain my excitement when there are so many awesome elements at play.  First of all, serious cool points were gained for the venue alone.  You know any party at the ACE Hotel & Swim Club is going to be the party of the year.  Plus all the modern meets organic details put together by Celebrations of Joy! including eco-friendly and re-purposed centerpieces and decor.  Mi Belle Wedding Photography brought all the eco-chic wonder to life with her gorgeous desert photos.  Click here to see them all!

From Celebrations of Joy!Margaret & Patrick are a sweet caring and creative couple from LA who are both stars at DreamWorks Animation. They brought their creative talents from the big screen to the physical world of their wedding.  As fellow designers, we were ecstatic when we first met them as the ideas kept flying! They were truly committed to creating a unique, fun and happy wedding with an organic and green focus.

Using the blank canvas of the Commune Event Space of the fabulous ACE Hotel & Swim Club the vision grew from a photo Margaret had from a design magazine of organic shaggy hanging lanterns.  Knowing these could be recreated (with the help of friends and family) they became the center point of the room.  The organic desert theme was enhanced by floating sand blasted manzanita branches wrapped in lighting dancing above the tables.  Additional branches and succulent arrangements completed the décor.

The wedding had a strong green component as all the centerpieces were given as gifts to take home, the bottles holding the table numbers we recycled water bottles from the ACE, and all of the manzanita branches were re-purposed.

The DJ was a friend from Nickelodeon who rocked the house, an artsy vintage film of their engagement shoot looped all night on the Commune wall, and swimming in the private pool was a great side attraction for the kids and a few adults at the end of the evening!  The bride’s sister and the groom’s brother created a beautiful ceremony which they co-celebrated at a beautiful private estate in Palm Springs rented by the brother just for the ceremony. They met for the first time the week of the wedding!

Romantic Rome Wedding from Italia Celebrations

As if Italy wasn’t already pretty much top of my “Most Romantic Cities I Simply Must Visit” list. Italia Celebrations sent over a Rome wedding they planned, detailed, and captured beautifully. And now I am in love, and ready for my Roman holiday. The couple had just a handful of guests present on their special day, but from the custom gown to the get away Fiat, adorned with the words “Oggi Sposi” (the Italian equivalent of Just Married, for those of us who aren’t so lucky as to speak the language of love), the entire affair was filled with love, style, and passion. Make sure to waltz over to the full image gallery for more of this beautiful day!

I, Meline, am an aspiring actress and Coco, my husband, is a technology entrepreneur from Newport Beach California, met one evening while dining out with mutual friends. After that night, they were pretty inseparable.

I always dreamed of getting married in Italy.  I have always had a passion for art history and so Rome’s monuments, architecture and history made it the perfect setting for our wedding day.  We wanted something intimate with close family and a vintage vibe was a must for our special day.

Our wedding planner, Brenda Babcock of Italia Celebrations came highly recommended through a celebrity network in Los Angeles and we couldn’t have been happier, we worked so well together.  When we started discussing details the movie Roman Holiday came to mind. It is one of our favorites and we loved the idea of darting around Rome on a Vespa just like they did in the movie. For practical purposes the Vespa became a vintage Fiat 500 from that same period.  From there we added in my poppy red Christian Louboutin shoes, pink peonies, robin’s egg blue and kraft paper and twine.

Rain was in the forecast, in fact, it rained all week.  Brenda prepared us for rain but, miraculously, it did not rain that day.  The morning of the wedding no one could locate my mother, she had slipped out to the church down the street from our hotel to pray that it would not rain.  We thought this was very funny but then it didn’t rain all day.  It was such a relief.

We had a beautiful church ceremony before driving off in our getaway car.  Our guests followed closely behind in a minivan.  They didn’t know they were in for a tour of the city.  We had photos taken around Rome. In Piazza Navona there was a street band and they started playing in our honor! The crowds cheered as our convertible pulled out of the piazza. We felt as though we had been celebrating with everyone in Rome.  We went to St. Peter’s Square then up to the top of the Janiculum Hill which has a spectacular view over the center of Rome. On to the Fontanone which is a huge fountain built to honor the spot where an Ancient Roman aqueduct brought water into the city from the countryside.  We all got to see parts of the city they would not have normally seen. It was exquisite and unforgettable.

Our reception was at Palazzo Manfreddi on an intimate terrace with a bird’s eye view of the Colosseum.  The dining experience with the city lit up at night right in front of us was just incredible.  The cuisine was so good that our guests want to go back to Rome just to dine there again.  Brenda had blue linen table runners made and a traditional Italian Millefoglie wedding cake done in a way that suited our antiqued wedding topper perfectly. The pink peonies and roses with green hyperium berries were wrapped in an egg shell cloth with natural twine. We had vintage Vespa miniatures for our wedding favors. They were perfect for our theme, really adorable and a fun way to pay homage to the groom and his love of riding motorbikes.  It was truly an unforgettable day, with memories we will cherish forever.

Rehearsal Dinner Inspiration by Elyse Jennings Weddings

We don’t see nearly enough rehearsal dinner inspiration for our fête loving hearts but these events are a a great way to bring personality into your wedding pre-party. While your Big Day might be reserved for the more traditional, the rehearsal dinner allows you to let loose, let your hair down and, in this case, throw an Oyster Dinner. Elyse Jennings Weddings designed this dream of a party fit for the glamour lover yet totally attainable with easy DIY elements woven throughout. And joining the knockout list of vendors is Greer G Photography who snapped all the loveliness including the perfect floral foliage by Bee’s Weddings and Events and Tupelo Honey’s invitations that had us at hello. I mean watercolor mollusks? Genius. Get your inspiration on in the full gallery.

From Elyse Jennings WeddingsWhile I love a bride who is completely into personalizing their wedding day designs, I know that not all brides are ready to commit to that trend- especially our more traditional brides who are born and raised in New Orleans! We wanted those brides to know that there was a way to have the best of both worlds and prove to them that personalizing your event doesn’t mean that it has to be a “theme.” I designed and personalized this rehearsal dinner to show couples that it is okay to bring their heritage, passions, and personalities into their wedding parties! I based the designs of this rehearsal dinner on my own family’s heritage of oyster fishing. We named each of our dinner tables an oyster dish, incorporated oyster shells in the table decor, and even built an oyster chandelier!  We also incorporated burlap, which oyster sacks are made out of {and a huge trend right now, as you know}! All small touches of the family without coming off as super themed! While oysters and burlap are very raw elements, we added the wedding glam by incorporating mercury glass and sequins–the perfect marriage where rustic meets chic!

We chose the beautifully unique backdrop of Race and Religious, a venue in New Orleans that has so much character and personality in itself! The messy clay, exposed brick, and gas lanterns exuded the unique Nola vibe that we were going for!

By using a bunch of DIY things {the chandelier, burlap and jute wrapped candles, pearl wrapped champagne flutes, banner, pool monogram, and bench swag}, we created a perfectly attainable and unique rehearsal dinner. My incredible team of vendors, and fantastic photographer, helped immensely to bring my vision to life and capture it perfectly! We hope to have given brides some ideas and inspired them to take a chance and add some of themselves to any of their wedding parties! It will separate their wedding from every other wedding! Enjoy!

Pie Ranch Wedding by Ashley Forrette Photography + Coastside Couture

The thing I love most about this wedding was that the bride and groom weren’t scared away by their working farm wedding location choice. They took a risk. They knew it would be a lot of work. They knew some people may look at them funny. But that didn’t stop them. And the results are gorgeous! Ashley Forrette Photography captured all the rustic, DIY elements while Coastside Couture handled all the day of coordinating…a total must for an unconventional wedding venue! From the Bride…I always knew that when I got married, I wanted the event to be real and not a cookie-cutter, wedding factory-type production.  Aside from the marriage itself (which of course was the #1 thing!), the things I wanted the most were a place that reflected our values and conveyed a real sense of place, excellent local organic food, a killer band, and a hint of vintage style.  After looking at several places and not feeling quite right about them, we almost accidentally ended up with our venue: a working farm whose mission is to educate kids about sustainable farming.  I was nervous about the working farm part…. we’d need porta-potties, lighting, signage, people would certainly be covered in dirt and dust and mumbling under their breath about the chickens and goats, and it wasn’t exactly centrally located.  But in the end, all those things were what made it so special.

Inspired by the recent “farm dinner” phenomenon happening in our area, we had a family-style dinner outside in the field and the caterer used an outdoor wood-fired oven to roast chickens and fall veggies.  We didn’t add a lot of extra decor.  We hung ribbons along the fence lines, made signs out of old wood, used a mix of inexpensive fabrics to cover the hay bale seats, had amazing wildflower-esque arrangements, and hung old family photos.  We left the funky old barn and all its contents alone and didn’t add or take away a thing.  We had pies made from ingredients on the farm, and in lieu of favors, we donated to a local land trust that had helped preserve the farm and surrounding area.  I think our favorite thing was dancing the night away in the barn to one of our favorite bluegrass bands.  Our wedding date was exactly 3 years to the day that we met, at a bluegrass festival, where that same band was playing!

I would advise anyone toying with the idea of a venue that doesn’t have all the typical wedding infrastructure and amenities to go for it.  If you feel that the place is special and has meaning for you, it’s worth the little extra stress and work to make it come together.  And it may seem obvious, but my #1 tip for an unconventional venue: hire a day-of wedding coordinator.  I was able to pull off planning the whole wedding myself, but I stressed a lot about how it would all come together and flow smoothly on the actual day.  It was worth every penny having a professional there to run the show!

Croatia Wedding by Denee Motion

I’m not exactly sure what originally drew this adorable Canadian couple to the gorgeous land of Croatia for their wedding day, but wow, am I so glad they chose this location! It’s beyond beautiful and romantic, there’s no doubt about that. Be sure to check out their sweet and sentimental film by Denee Motion because you never know where your wedding plans may take you!

From Denee Motion: The island of Hvar was the perfect backdrop for James and Kayan’s destination wedding in Croatia. For the Canadian couple living in London, welcoming sixty of their closest friends and family from around the globe to a fun-filled weekend along the sunny Adriatic was bliss. It was truly an intimate affair with a strong personal touch that could be felt in the details: from close friends officiating and DJing the wedding, to heartfelt speeches and handwritten menus, to the couple’s ‘last dance’. Oh, and the party was absolutely crazy. All in all, Dalmatian Coast in Croatia is amazing, not overcrowded with tourists (in July) yet very cozy and ancient in a modern way.

Wheatleigh Wedding by Christian Oth Studio

Everyday we open up the submissions like it’s a pretty package – anxious to see what’s inside. It never disappoints, but sometimes it produces so much pretty we can’t contain our squeals. This Berkshires beauty by Shawn Connell and Rob Northway of Christian Oth Studio definitely produced those squeals. Because it is gorgeous, it is timeless and the Groom even sent in a description! I melt every time when that happens. From the hundreds of origami birds the couple folded together to waltzing to the song the Groom created especially for their proposal – this couple really enjoyed the planning process, and boy did it show. You can see all the lovely in the full gallery!

From the Bride…Kenji and I really enjoyed the wedding planning process.  We worked together on everything and we both greatly appreciated everyone who helped us – our wonderful and loving family and friends and our very talented and extremely knowledgeable vendors.  We wanted to incorporate aspects of our different heritages into the wedding: Norwegian, Japanese, Irish, and Italian.  As well as personal touches, such as the motif we designed – two letter K’s, one reversed, together forming a butterfly.  Our florist, Crocus Hale, was just wonderful, and worked closely with us to transform our ideas into an elegant and timeless wedding design that represented us as a couple while enhancing the architecture and decor of the Wheatleigh.  Kenji and I spent numerous hours at Paper Trail, a chic little shop in the village of Rhinebeck, NY.  Serine and her staff helped us choose our invitations, the various paper goods and ribbons we used, and welcome gift bags.  With all of the detail in our wedding we decided to have two photographers.  We were very happy with this decision as it relaxed the photography schedule for the “getting ready” pictures and pre-ceremony portraits, provided different perspectives during the ceremony and other key moments, and provided enough coverage for lots of fun, candid shots of the guests, and special attention to all of the details.  Shawn Connell and Rob Northway from Christian Oth Studios were an absolute delight to work with, and we are in love with all of the precious memories they expertly captured.

The weather was just perfect to hold our ceremony outside on the terrace.  My dad walked me down the aisle while the string quartet played Pachelbel’s Canon in D.  Kenji was looking so handsome and the moment took my breath away.  Our guests looked just exquisite in black tie dress, the mountain view backdrop added to the drama, and the ceremony flowers of hydrangea and orchids complemented the scene perfectly.  Kenji and I wrote our own ceremony, so personal and meaningful to us, and had our very dear friend, Keith, officiate.  We included a handfasting ceremony to honor my Irish heritage, as well as a traditional Japanese saké ceremony, using a saké set given to Kenji by his family in Japan.  My godmother read “An Irish Blessing”, and another spiritual reading was done by Kenji’s godfather.  Our close friend, Alex Neyman, captured the priceless moments with his artist’s pencil.  We said our vows, exchanged rings, and with the power of the State of Massachusetts bestowed upon Keith for that day… We Were Married!

The Wheatleigh dining room was decorated beautifully.  Tables were draped with white floor-length linens and topped with taupe, silk dupioni overlays.  The floral centerpieces consisted of hydrangea, garden roses, dahlias, orchids, and hanging amaranthus in muted autumn colors.  Votive candles, some in mercury glass, illuminated the tables as the sun set behind the mountains.  We designed the menus with our butterfly motif to also serve as place cards by folding a calligraphed band around the menu.  We had fun with the menu for Kenji’s two year old nephew by replacing the text with cute pictures.  The string ensemble played beautifully, and emotional and entertaining speeches were given as we enjoyed a delicious five course meal with special wine pairings.  It was an amazing culinary experience created by Chef Jeffery Thompson and the Wheatleigh staff.

After dinner, everyone returned to the candle-lit Great Hall where we cut our wedding cake.  A scrumptious three-tiered cake decorated with Swiss dots and handmade sugar orchids – two tiers of almond chiffon cake layered with marscapone cream and raspberry preserves, and one tier of chocolate chiffon layered with chocolate mousse and raspberry preserves.  We shared our first bite of cake and it was now time for our first dance, a waltz to the song Kenji created for his wedding proposal.  Kenji’s voice teacher, Machan Taylor, had altered the timing to a waltz meter, and also sang the vocals. Kenji played the violin part, and Kathie, my matron of honor, played the flute part that gave the music an ethereal quality.  It was all professionally arranged and mixed by Pete Levin. It was so beautiful and something we will treasure forever.  In the months prior to the wedding, our dance teacher, Linda Rowland, taught us the waltz and worked with us to choreograph our first dance.  With our dance shoes on, the music started and I was so nervous.  Kenji was calm and confident as we floated across the dance floor underneath our origami cranes.  I tear up just thinking about it!

From the Groom…Kelly is beyond a dream come true, and our wedding was a metaphor for this.  Every detail, finely sculpted, was a result of Kelly’s wonderful touch, and her ability to work well with everyone, including me.  I cannot even say that the process was difficult – long, yes, effortful, yes.  But joyous, always.  Even folding 1000 paper cranes over the course of months was a task that we took up together, with each other in our hearts and the results in our hands.  Our wedding celebration was the culmination of months of planning and perseverance, and the fact that it reflected such joy in its loving details is a testament to the bond we were making, and continue to make strong.  For our guests, I hope we were able to transport them to another time, another place, one where things were beautiful and wonderful, one that provided a state of true enjoyment, if not blissfulness.  But I hope they then had the further realization that in fact this was not some alternate life, but actual reality, brought about by Kelly’s fantastic creativity and organizational abilities, crystallizing in the here and now.  I remember when I first saw Kelly on our day, preparing to walk down the aisle to join me.  She was radiant, and I myself had the realization that this was in fact happening!  Right there and then!  And to me!  This was the wonderful reality we had brought about, composed like a song, reviewed many times on how it might be, but the full emotional impact only being known on opening night.  The music, the flowers, the candles, the food, the cake, thousands of tiny and meticulously chosen elements, all worked harmoniously together to create our event in a beautiful venue.  And when the party was over, what remained were wonderful memories, for us and for our guests.  The farewell brunch had many smiles – it was as if we were all checking back in to make sure that it was not all a fleeting dream.  For me, it was all a dream come true, that remains to this day – every day I look at Kelly and remember the day I married her, and have the same realization that this beautiful life we share is continually made real by us, and made stronger and more joyful with each day that passes.  I am honored to add my strength to her grace, my tenacity to her creativity, my love to her light.  She is my butterfly, her flight is one of beauty and will.  And my life now, just as this paragraph, begins and ends with Kelly.

Los Angeles Wedding from Kristeen LaBrot + Jennifer Rau

I hope you put on your fancy pants this morning when you got dressed, because this Los Angeles wedding requires them. I really do love a ballroom wedding. They are gorgeous, classy, and just the perfect amount of fancy. And this L.A. wedding takes the buttercream cake of ballroom weddings. With help from the lovely Kristeen LaBrot Events, the affair was classically chic, with stunning tablescapes, a gorg black and white palette, and the cutest, and I mean cutest, ring bearer. Luckily Jennifer Rau Photography was on hand for the big day, because we have a full image gallery that is just packed full!

After spending several weekends driving all over LA County looking at potential venues, we finally arrived at a private club in downtown LA and it was love at first sight! The place was elegant and gorgeous!  I do love funky weddings but I’m from Connecticut and am a traditionalist at heart and this place had a traditional East Coast vibe that felt right to me. The place is also a significant historical California landmark.

One of the greatest parts of the wedding ceremony was Patrick’s nephew Tucker who was our ring bearer. His cuteness stole the show.  The day before at the rehearsal, he threw tantrums, kicked his legs, and flopped on the floor until his face turned red and we thought “Well, OK, that’s fine. We won’t have a ring bearer.”   But, on the day of the wedding, he was in good spirits.  He walked very carefully and solemnly down the long aisle and after he handed the ring pillow to his father, the best man, he raised his arms and screamed “I DID IT!”  The guests all laughed and cheered and it was a good ice breaker for conversations during the cocktail hour.

We wanted something a little different and not so predictable so we used a crayon drawing of us done by our good friends’ 7 year old daughter for the cover of the program.  The rest of the day was perfect and all ran smoothly.  Great food, great band and we were so happy and thankful to have all our relatives and great friends (two coming all the way from Europe!) to share this amazing day.  Special thanks to my sister and brother-in-law who sponsored us at this gorgeous venue.

The Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove Wedding by Studio Impressions Photography

From the moment I read that this breathtaking bride proposed to her now husband with the aid of an elephant named “Cuddles,” I knew that these Australian nuptials would be spectacular.  How could they not be completely amazing with a beginning like that?  And with the fabulous stylings of W.EDDING CO., a beyond beautiful Persian ceremony, some lovely blooms by Style on Q and a reception bathed in one very gorgeous purple light, my heart hasn’t stopped pitter-pattering yet.  And, of course, it goes without saying that these brilliant images captured by Adam Finch and Marcus Bell of Studio Impressions Photography will leave you speechless… and completely spellbound for the rest of the day.  So, click here for every last ounce of pretty and then stay tuned for even more lovely below!

Oh, we’re not done yet.  Not only did the ever-amazing Mr. Bell and Mr. Finch gift us with some seriously stunning photos, but they graciously sent over one very fabulous film, as well.  The first time ever Studio Impressions has shared their cinematography with the blogosphere… and we have the honor of debuting it right here on SMP.  Do Tuesday mornings get any better than this?

From the Bride… I proposed on our 7 year anniversary using an elephant named “Cuddles” at Dubbo Zoo.  She was trained to hold the ring in her trunk and bend down on one knee and pass him the ring.  It was magical.

Our wedding theme was split between the ceremony and reception. We had a traditional Persian ceremony featuring whites and naturals with an opulent party reception featuring purple, navy, and brushed gold. The ceremony was unique, traditional, funny and warm. It could not have been more perfect. The speeches at the reception were another highlight. All 8 groomsmen spoke and they were all hilarious, sweet and special. Our bridal party (all 16 of them) were the most incredible, supportive, kind, beautiful group of people. We were blown away by their participation in the day and hope to return the favor!

I would have to say the top 5 things that made our wedding special would be (1) The traditional Persian ceremony. (2) The beautiful bridal party. (3) The speeches. (4) I LOVED my dress which was chosen in New York by Rey Hanna Vakili, my now sister-in-law. (5) Our planner, Jodie is hilarious AND talented and she made everything come together while keeping me laughing.

The thing I loved about our wedding photography was, they were totally unobtrusive. They are so so so so professional and got things done while not interfering at all in the proceedings. The slide show at the reception was AMAZING!!! The images are priceless.

My advice for other couples getting married is (1) Hire Jodie Randolph-Birch. (2) Let people help! People love to be given jobs to contribute and participate in the day. (3) Don’t let anyone tell you not to do something that you really want. Don’t be talked out of the big dress, the dramatic cake, the elaborate invites… Taking risks pay off to make a wedding unique and memorable.

Doesn’t this cheery Long Island wedding just make you smile?  The casual yet elegant vibe, the freshly picked flowers (From a nearby construction site!), the insanely gorgeous setting, the oh-so-stunning bride and groom…  Yes, this is most definitely an affair of the grin-inducing kind.  Plus, add to all of this wedding goodness some beyond beautiful images by Christina Szczupak Photography and I just remembered why I love, love, LOVE a gorgeous backyard affair.  Click here for even more!

From Christina Szczupak Photography This adorable trendy couple from Brooklyn held their wedding at the brides father’s home which was right on the beach and overlooking the bay. With the help of great friends and family that picked wildflowers from a local construction site and collected jars for the decorations, they managed to keep their wedding beautiful while staying on budget. The day also included a BBQ which included a full hog roast, having a friend’s band play (with the groom playing on the keyboard for some of the songs), and a short casual ceremony overlooking the bay.

From the Bride… My father and stepmother were so generous to let us use their beautiful house in East Marion, NY. We decided to let the location be a statement in itself and kept the decorations to a minimum. That being said, my stepmother and good friend went to work like crazy picking flowers from a nearby construction site, collecting containers, and making really amazing arrangements for the tables, etc.

We were married by our friend, Ben, who recorded some of the first songs we ever wrote together. Cy got his entire ensemble from eBay. My dress came from Morgane Le Fay. The staff there was amazing: although my dress was the first one I tried on when I started my search, they let me come back like 8 times before I actually bought it. We asked our friend, the Love Loves, to be our wedding band. They delivered a processional that will never be forgotten. For a first dance (which we weren’t planning on), they played Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” and we were then joined by all of our friends.

Vintage Garden Wedding by Browne Photography

Southern, vintage, garden wedding perfection. There really isn’t any other way to describe this sweet as can be soiree by Browne Photography. There are heartfelt details around every corner – from the flowers on the cake to the fact that gorgeous gown of the pretty as can be bride just happens to be her mother’s! How can you not love that she repurposed the gown of her mom’s to be her dream dress? It surely served that family well. The entire affair is equally as a lovely, and there is more in the full gallery of images!

From Browne PhotographyThis wedding was in Port. St. Joe Florida. Maclain had a vision of a sweet southern garden party flair which definitely came through in the pictures. Maclain wore her mother’s beautiful wedding dress that her mother wore when she married her father. From the decorations, to the vintage car, her antique wedding dress and the rocking band it was everything she ever dreamed of.

From the Bride…Between wearing my mother’s wedding gown to arriving at our reception in a 1931 Model A, belonging to Wade’s grandfather, vintage was the feeling we envisioned for the day.  After a decade, my mother’s lost gown resurfaced less than a year before we got engaged.  I worked with Shior Bridal in Atlanta to modernize her early 80’s wedding dress (complete with ruffled sleeves) into a simple, strapless gown.  The veil was borrowed from one of my bridesmaids, Liz, to complete my simple, classic look.

We renovated Wade’s grandparent’s 1950s home last summer and it is our pride and joy!  Our yard is surrounded with huge camellia trees thanks to his grandmother’s hard work over the years.  We both marvel at the beautiful blossoms each season and wanted to incorporate them into our wedding. We found an artist on Etsy to handcraft paper replicas of our favorite blooms. The flowers were used on the wedding cake and now bring life to our china cabinet.  Wade owns every size cast iron skillet you can imagine.  Among many cast iron specialties, he makes delicious cornbread.  We gave his dry cornbread mix and recipe, in small paper bags with labels designed by my sister, to our guests. Wade also gave cast iron skillets to each of his groomsmen as a “thank you” gift! Wade had one request, his mother’s sour cream pound cake served with Georgia peaches.  His Mom made a special trip to South Georgia last summer for perfectly ripe peaches and then spent the weekend before the wedding baking her pound cake to serve 200 people.  The groom’s cake table was arranged with tiered cake stands filled with her pound cake and a glass bowl of peaches to be served with each piece.

Family friends hosted our reception at their classic southern home overlooking St. Joseph’s Bay. Their front yard is a lush garden and was perfect for the “vintage garden party” theme we were hoping to accomplish. We hung bistro lights and mason jars filled with tea lights through the trees in the courtyard to create a romantic glow after sunset.  The table flowers, in shades of white and green, were loosely arranged in borrowed silver pitchers and derby cups. The food presentation was also an important part of our “classic southern with a twist” decor.  Our caterer set up five tapas stations throughout the lawn under lighted pagoda tents to encourage social grazing. Huge floral arrangements overflowing with hydrangeas, garden roses, and blossoming cherry branches were the centerpieces of each food tent. The “southern” tent included macaroni and cheese served in mini Chinese take out boxes!

After we said our vows and were pronounced husband and wife, the congregation was asked to stand and join together in saying The Lord’s Prayer. As we held hands and bowed our heads with our backs to the church, we heard the ancient wood floors creaking under the feet of our family and friends as they prayed in unison. We could hear the people and the church itself. We were overcome by emotion realizing, at that moment, that The Lord’s Prayer has been said in that church for 200 years, but this time it was for us.

Seattle Wedding by Kip Beelman Photography

Call me crazy, but never once has it passed my little wedding-loving mind that a penthouse suite would be THE perfect setting for an intimate and unforgettable wedding day. That is, until today when I spotted this perfectly elegant, perfectly cozy, and perfectly stunning affair. If I ever renew my vows, this my friends, would be the way. I love how the suite was essentially kept as is, complete with comfy furniture and one amazing fireplace and I have to admit, I’m slightly jealous of each and every one of their forty guests. Kip Beelman Photography captured all the gorgeous elements and if you’re like me and loving every inch, meet me in the gallery for a good, old fashioned swoon fest and check out what Kip had to say here.

From Kip Beelman PhotographyThe couple celebrated their small, intimate affair at the iconic Sorrento Hotel in Seattle, Washington with its warm and welcoming Italianate architecture and legacy as the city’s longest running boutique hotel. The ceremony was held atop the Sorrento rooftop terrace with the Seattle skyline and waterfront playing 2nd fiddle as they said their vows and committed their love in front of 40 guests on a perfect August evening.

Passed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails were served in the richly appointed Sorrento Room after the ceremony whilst the Penthouse Suite was transformed into an elegant environment bar none to host their 3-course reception dinner provided by the hotel’s own celebrated Hunt Club amidst the glow of Glassybaby votives and tables named after the desirable Seattle neighborhoods.

The bride and groom wanted a soft, vintage look with lots of texture and unexpected floral elements such as succulents and nigella pods.  Rachel of Finch and Thistle used her collection of vintage milk glasses for vased and then decorated with vintage books and mason jars in the fireplace and on the cocktail tables.  The Penthouse was left “as-is” with it’s cozy furniture and fireplace to welcome guests before being “turned” into the reception location.

Garden Vineyards Wedding from Altura Studio + Ella Events + Geranium Lake Flowers

This Oregon vineyard wedding has so much to offer. I love the light & airy floral design by Geranium Lake Flowers. And just as much as I love the flowers, I love the fantastic tablescapes, ceremony set up, and gorgeous style, all brought together by Ella Events. I love the bride’s amazingly chic dress, and the grooms fantastically casual suit. But you know what I really love about this wedding? The way he looks at her. And the way she looks at him. The way their love is radiating right off my computer screen. Altura Studio captured that love brilliantly. Along with every other little detail (bridesmaids, gorgeous rings, and fabulous vineyard setting). So take a peek at the gallery to see the full extent of this love-filled affair!

Per and I met in 2003 when we began law school in Boston.  Within a year we were friends, and by the end of law school, in 2006, we regarded one another as best friends.  But we never crossed the line into dating.

On a very cold Boston night, after we had co-hosted a birthday party for our other best friend, Nicole, Per confessed that he was in love with me.  We proceeded to have an intimate conversation until the early morning about everything we hoped and dreamed for in our lives.  By the time the sun came up, the city had been blanketed in a beautiful snow, which made everything look magical, and Per and I knew we were going to be together forever

It wasn’t a happily ever after right away.  We respected one another’s desires to start our careers, and navigated our relationship through different jobs and cities (during which we spent a year and a half apart, me in Texas and Per in DC), until we arrived at the ideal moment to commit to one another in marriage.  On July 30, 2011, we wed before 99 close friends and family in a picture-perfect ceremony officiated by Nicole.

By the time that we actually got engaged, Per and I already had many conversations about what we wanted in a wedding.  These pre-engagement conversations were important; it was nice to have a jointly held vision of what we desired (and before we became paralyzed by choice—something I see occur often in newly engaged couples).

When we envisioned our wedding, we saw images of an emotional and thoughtful outdoor ceremony, enjoying a sunset dinner, and lots of dancing.  We knew the wedding would be in Oregon, in part because it was important for us to have my 88-year-old Abuelita present, but also because I wanted to show off my home state to all of our non-Oregonian friends and family.

When I first saw Garden Vineyards, it was as if every image I had in my head for the perfect wedding site had translated to real life.  Nailing down the venue early allowed every detail to flow into place over the year of our engagement.

A couple of things guided our “style” vision for the wedding.  The first was the time of year, late July in Oregon, which is when the state’s natural beauty begs you to be outside.  The second was the venue, a gorgeous garden and vineyard, which meant lots of lush foliage and flowers.  The third was family traditions, both borrowing past traditions and creating new traditions, which meant fashioning an intimate atmosphere.

Because I wanted to compliment, not compete, with the lovely landscape at that time of year in Oregon, I chose what I called a summer neutrals color palette.  To me that meant blush, grey, champagne, and beige—soft, quiet colors.  Our table settings included ivory tablecloths with champagne runners, silver chargers with dove grey napkins, and vintage-inspired silver-and-white dinner plates, floral flatware, and champagne saucers.  Our flowers included light green hydrangeas, café au lait dahlias, and blush cabbage roses and were set in mixed vessels including birch-wrapped vases and mint julep cups.  It was dreamy and elegant.

My mother collects antique postcards, and our Save the Date was a postcard created in 1911 (exactly 100 years prior to our wedding year) that we purchased on eBay.  The postcard advertised Portland’s moniker “The Rose City” and captured a scene of the city with Mt. Hood in the background, framed by a rose.  The scene is the view from Washington Park, which is where we held our Welcome Picnic the evening before the wedding.  Our gorgeous invitations featured stone ink letterpressed on ecru paper, and invoked a romantic feel with camellia-print grey-and-blush-colored envelope liners.

Perhaps the most arduous task was creating our table cards.  We mined our boxes of old photographs and found pictures of one or the other of us with each of our guests.  My mother scanned, printed, and adhered each photo to the corresponding table card for each guest.  Her hard work was well worth it!  Our friends and family loved seeing the old memories, and many came up to us throughout the evening either doubled-over from laughter or with tears in their eyes.  The added bonus of this detail was that it provided conversation starters to those guests who did not know one another but who were seated at a table together.

In lieu of a guest book, we asked our guests to sign the rims of china dinner plates with silver and gold pens.  Per and I love to cook together on special occasions and holidays, and we now have new china to use on future anniversary dinners.

My dad does not like being the center of attention, and was a little nervous about the father-daughter dance.  My mother solved that problem by borrowing an idea from a woman she met while shopping for wedding décor.  The woman’s husband was also nervous about the father-daughter dance at their daughter’s wedding.  Therefore, they decided to play a slideshow of photos of the bride, from her childhood through her adulthood, during the dance.  We did the same for both the father-daughter and mother-son dances and it was a hit.  Not only did it distract the attention of onlookers from focusing solely on my dad and me (and Per and his mother), it gave many of our friends who only know us from adulthood snapshots into our previous lives.

When I was born, my mother received a lace-trimmed baby bonnet that was intended to be transformed into a handkerchief for me at my wedding.  My mother surprised me by presenting it to me with my wedding date embroidered into it in blue.  The handkerchief inspired us to provide the “favors” of handkerchiefs to our guests prior to our wedding ceremony.  My mother spent the months leading up to the wedding antiquing for vintage handkerchiefs, which we displayed on silver platters that she acquired during her outings.  My girlfriends expressed that they enjoyed selecting handkerchiefs that complimented their outfits that day.

Our wedding was a labor of love.  Not only between Per and me, but also between my mother and me.  Mothers of brides meet all sorts of stereotypes.  The mother of this bride was amazing.  Being on the opposite side of the country from her while we planned the wedding was no easy feat.  She made it work and made it fun (and through trial and error we learned lots of tips for brides and their mothers in similar situations!).  I felt her love in every preparation toward, and moment during, the wedding.

And for an extra special treat we have the amazing wedding film by Tweed Weddings to share as well!

From the Bride…I grew up in the south (Memphis, Tennessee) and my family currently lives in Akron, Ohio.  I went to art school in Cincinnati, Ohio where I majored in painting and then moved to New York City in 2005 where I attended Columbia University and received my Masters degree in Art Education. This is when I met Karl. Karl was born in Malaysia, spent time in Singapore as a child and grew up in Sydney, Australia. He went to college in Australia where he majored in Law and Finance and began working as an investment banker for an Australian bank. His job then moved him to New York City in 2006.When Karl first moved to New York he connected with a friend of a friend who happened to be one of my friends. As I lived in the graduate dorms, I hosted a traditional Thanksgiving dinner as family visited in town. We invited many international students to this dinner, as they had never before experienced this American holiday. Among these was my friend who had brought Karl. We hit it off and became friends for a year. We then started dating and did so for four years before our wedding.

I continued to receive a second, advanced Masters degree from Columbia in Museum Education. I currently work as a freelance museum educator in modern and contemporary art museums throughout New York City. When the world financial crisis hit Wall Street, Karl decided to give up investment banking and started his own business. He took the concept of Groupon to his native Southeast Asia and developed it into his own company, Beeconomic. Groupon then bought this company so Karl is now the CEO of Groupon Singapore. He runs the business from our Brooklyn apartment but must make frequent visits to his constantly growing team of staff in Singapore.

We selected the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens as it represented Brooklyn but also supplied us with that healthy dose of nature we were looking for in our event. We had been to a wedding there before and knew they do a wonderful job.  This is also when our idea of the classic meets modern/exotic theme began. We hoped that the classic feel of the botanical garden would blend well with the fun, tropical feel we would bring to it.

Karl wore a custom made suit that was also a cool gray. His name and our wedding date are embroidered on the inside. He wore a sage green tie and some of the buttonholes were made using bright orange thread to match one of our minor wedding colors. The tropical theme was carried throughout as his cufflinks were shaped as surfers on surfboards. Even with my own gown, I again chose the theme of classic meets modern. I selected a classic ball gown dress but I also loved the modern look of a birdcage veil. Numerous dress experts told me that a birdcage veil works best with short, informal and more A-line dresses. But I disregarded this advice and was very happy with the result. I had the veil custom made with the single flower to be worn on the side of my hair to add to the tropical look.

We selected all tropical flowers for the event which included green orchids, lush greenery and of course, birds of paradise.  This matched our color theme which consisted of sage green, a variety of shades of bright green and a hint of orange here and there (including the inside of our invitation envelope). We chose to have the ceremony in the Cherry Esplanade area of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where guests were surrounded by cherry trees in a green field. A serene fountain was in the background where we stood. Our pastors from our non-denominational Christian church served as our officiants and included our families in the beautiful service. The sun began to set behind us dipped beneath the lush trees of the gardens during the ceremony. In order to add to the Hawaiian feel, a ukulele player played our only music for the ceremony. We selected a number of our favorite contemporary songs with a tropical feel, such as the Israel Kamakawiwo’ole version of “Over the Rainbow” and Beach Boy love songs.

We decided that we did not want a wedding where guests were passive. We wanted everyone to be active participants having fun throughout the whole night. Rather than leaving out traditional favors for guests at the tables, we surprised everyone at the end of the night by lowering down a very large piñata from the ceiling. This piñata was in the shape of a palm tree and we stuffed it with hard candy I made myself. I used an old fashioned recipe but natural flavors. These were all tropical flavors such as coconut, mango and lime. These candies were created using our wedding colors and we created wrappers to match the text of our invitations and other stationary.  Guests took turns being blindfolded and hitting the piñata. Finally, it burst open with confetti as guests gathered their favors at the end of the night.

Lithgow Wedding by Angelica Peady Photography

This Lithgow wedding by Angelica Peady Photography has turned me into a super fan.  I love the rock n’ roll vibe that this couple brought to their vintage-chic celebration.  There are so many delightful details from the black lace wrapped napkins to the wildly romantic florals to the sweet key escort cards.  And the bride’s dress is the gorgeous icing on the already fantastic cake!  It is so fun, romantic and chic.  Click here to see all the details!

From the Bride…The ceremony was held in Hoskins Uniting Church in Lithgow. It was a very relaxed ceremony with only a couple of bible readings. My brother Adam wrote us a poem which even included our dogs escaping the night before and the whole bridal parties out looking for them until midnight.

The reception was amazing. The decorations and flowers by Decorative Events and Blond Flores were incredible. We wanted guests to go straight from the church to the reception so there was no waiting around. We had a beautiful sunny day so guests spent time chatting, having drinks and nibblies outside in the grounds of the park whilst we had our photographs in the grounds of the park.

We then asked everyone to be seated for a our big entry on Justin’s dirt bike to the song “Marry You” by Bruno Mars. We didn’t want the night to have too many formalities, we wanted people to have plenty of opportunities relax and have a great time. We had speeches after dinner inviting anyone who wanted to speak the freedom to do so. We cut the delicious cake and the night was then free for drinking, dancing, photographs, throwing the bouquet and catching up with family and friends. The night exceeded all of my expectations, I would not change any part of the day for anything.

Palm Springs Wedding by Details Details

We adore Palm Springs’ weddings around here.  The venues in the desert are some of the most stunning and The Parker, with decor by one of my design superheros Jonathan Adler, is at the tippity top of our list of favorites.  Often we see weddings influenced by the incredible mid-century modern vibe that the hotel is known for but this wedding brought a super fun, moroccan flair to the sweet destination spot as well.  Details Details made all the colorful magic happen and the result is so full of whimsy and personality!  Click here to see it all!

From Details DetailsThe couple wanted a fun, youthful wedding with lots of color and personality. While The Parker Hotel has a Moroccan flair with a Jonathan Adler influence, Sunny from White Lilac was still able to achieve organic glamour.  She selected natural but sexy garden flowers in gradations of purples, the bride’s favorite color.  Floral consisted of purple lisianthus, purple lady slipper orchids, black callas, burgundy hydrangeas, enhanced with mustard billy balls.  Texture was created with scabies pods, grey succulents and dusty miller.  Flowers were carefully placed into eclectic white ceramic jars and trays while colored glass Moroccan lanterns and colored poofs filled the ceremonial tree.

Canadian Museum of Nature Wedding by Marry Me Productions

This is one of those weddings that makes us drop everything else for an hour of undivided attention. Because this is so not a multi-tasking, catching up on emails, drinking coffee and watching Matt Lauer all while perusing the gallery kind of wedding. Nope, not in the least. It’s a knock-out crafted by Marry Me Productions where classically gorgeous meets modern museum complete with a bevy of really amazing signage. And each image by Andrew Geddes of Union Eleven is like a work of art. I’m half tempted to frame them and hang them up on my wall. Head over to the gallery for more of this Ottawa affair and don’t worry Matt will be there when you come out of your pretty daze.

From the Bride…Kyle and I have had chemistry since the day we met!  We became close friends during our Grade 9 Science class and soon realized we were more than friends when we went to the Valentine’s Day dance together. However for the next 10 years we remained friends as our romantic timing always seemed to be off. After attending high school in our small community we both went to The University of Western Ontario and happened to be placed in the same residence, on the same floor! During university and beyond, we always had something special. Finally, after more than 10 years, the timing was right and we started dating. After just 6 months (and the perfect date) Kyle and I took a stroll in the rain through Ottawa’s Major’s Hill Park and on to the terrace of the Chateau Laurier overlooking the Rideau Canal. When Kyle put down the umbrella I was wondering “Doesn’t he realize how fast my hair will start to frizz?” Then I realized he had something important to say. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Shocked, I tackled him in an embrace and said YES to marrying my best friend!

My vision for the wedding was modern with a hint of traditional romance. Our contemporary color palette of slate grey, aubergine, white and black was inspired by our fashion and interior design preferences and was consistently evident in the wedding party attire, stationery, linens, and wedding cake. Being that Kyle and I are both teachers, and our history spanned from high school through University, I also wanted to personalize the wedding with some ‘school’ elements (without making guests feel as though they were in class!).

My dress had all the romantic details I was looking for. Made of silk duchess satin with crystal bead-work and tulle accents, it was the beaded chapel train that gave it that ‘wow’ factor and I knew it would be perfect for walking down the aisle in.

The ceremony was held at Blessed Sacrament Church and was followed by cocktails in the all glass Lantern of the Canadian Museum of Nature. The Museum’s architecture perfectly juxtaposed a castle-like romance with bold contemporary elements. It was important for us to have a cocktail hour that set the tone of the evening; we wanted our guests to socialize and have fun in this stunning space. As Kyle’s family is from Jamaica this was also a time where we wanted to bring a piece of island life to the wedding with Jamaican cuisine for passed hors d’oeuvres, Caribbean cocktails for signature drinks and a steel drum band echoing throughout the Museum. Moving to the beat of the steel drums, guests ascended the glass stairs and moved into the Salon of The Museum for our dinner and reception. Guest tables were named after schools that Kyle and I had attended or taught at and were centred with tall square vases housing manzanita branches decorated in carnation balls and cascading phaleanopsis orchids.

Our wedding day was blissful, breathtaking and celebratory. Every planning element came to life and was surpassed thanks to Marry Me Productions and all of our fabulous vendors. The biggest surprise was how relaxed we remained and how much we were able to stay present in each moment. Kyle and I didn’t have to worry about anything and therefore were able to put all our energy into enjoying the special moments of the day and celebrating our immense love for each other! Just like the Grade 9 dance in the beginning, Kyle and I danced the whole night until the lights  were on and the music was done, but this time we left as husband and wife!

From the Bride… We met our junior year of college, and then continued our relationship in Chicago after our college graduation. We have been enjoying Chicago ever since, and felt that it was the right place to get married.  For our wedding, we wanted to provide a great venue for our guests and ourselves to enjoy the moment and celebrate.  Our wedding day was a whirlwind!  It was so fun to watch all the planning come together.  Our favorite part was to have all of our friends and family there to celebrate with us.  The ceremony was at a cathedral tucked into the heart of downtown Chicago, the cocktail hour was along the river, and the dance floor was packed all night long!  I loved that my dress was lace in a champagne color, and that the top was an off the shoulder design.   It was different than every other dress I tried on, and when I put it on I knew it was what I had been picturing in my head.  I had my jewelry custom designed by my cousin and friend, Catherine, who is the owner of Catherine Nicole.  She also designed the bridesmaids and flower girl jewelry. It was amazing to have exactly what I wanted custom designed and created by Catherine. The pieces were beautiful!
