Gin Fizz Cocktail from Freutcake

On my recent trip to San Francisco I experience my very first egg white cocktail. Quite honestly the sound of raw egg white in a drink sounded questionable to me but after taking a sip, I was hooked. Egg white has long been the secret ingredient in classic cocktails and gives them body and that signature fizz we all love. So let’s get started with the most classic of all egg white cocktails, the Gin Fizz. Good gin, fresh squeezed lemon juice, egg white and a splash of club soda all garnished with a maraschino cherry. This is a light and lady-like cocktail with just the right balance of sweet and sour. So get those eggs out and get a cracking! You’ll be happy you did.

Gin Fizz
prep time
5 Minute/s
cook time
total time

  1. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add gin, lemon juice, sugar, and egg.
  2. Shake vigorously…more than usual to “fizz” the egg white.

Marvimon Wedding by Captured by Aimee + Sweet Emilia Jane

The talents of Sweet Emilia Jane and Captured By Aimee combined with the super fabulous space that is Marvimon? That’s a recipe for modern vintage perfection. The result just happens to be beyond perfect, if that is at all possible. With a playful yet sophisticated feel, and stylish details around every corner, this pretty simply shouldn’t be missed. See every last amazing detail here.

From the Bride… Since the day we got engaged, Nathan and I knew that the three most important things for our wedding would be family, friends and great food.  As long as we had that, we knew we’d have the best wedding ever.

With such an amazing venue and backdrop as Marvimon, we knew we wanted to keep our decorations and design super clean and simple.  We went for a modern vintage feel and stuck to 4 colors-black, white, light grey and light pink.  From the asymmetrical fringe buffet backdrop to the crisp flowers in modern glass bottles, Emilia executed everything we dreamed of and planned way beyond our expectations and blew us away!

We had so many friends and family members travel far to be with us for the wedding which was so special-it was amazing to see our families joining together.  All of our hard work and stress paid off as everything came together and the day was just perfect.  How could it not be?  I married my best friend in front of our dearest friends and family.

We had such a fun time planning the wedding and truly appreciate all the help we got from our families and awesome coordinator Emilia from Sweet Emilia Jane.

From Sweet Emilia Jane…After our very first meeting, I knew that I was going to have a blast working with Erin and Nathan to help plan and design their fabulous Marvimon wedding.  They have a great energy, have great style and, of course, the sweetest love for one another.  With an inspiration folder about 5 inches thick I also knew that I’d have my work cut out for me but we had so much fun coming up with different ideas to tie all the design elements together from the ceremony chuppah to the dessert backdrop.  We wanted to create something that was beautiful, simple and elegant but with a playful, modern feel…and a little bit of pretty, vintage-inspired goodness mixed in too.  We chose to use tissue paper decor around the venue making super long fringe garlands and fringe tassels in white, gray and light pink that popped against the black and white chevron runners that Erin had picked out.  I loved the white balloons Erin ordered for the ceremony.  They were simple and sweet but created a fun, modern backdrop and looked so cute against the Marvimon succulent walls.  The chalkboard escort sign we made was another favorite of mine displayed in a vintage frame that we painted light pink.  It had a rustic, vintage vibe but with a modern makeover and was so adorable!  My ultimate favorite project, though, was the dessert backdrop.  This was definitely a labor of love with about 100 handmade paper tassels and giant fringe garlands.  The asymmetrical arrangement took this already sweet idea and made it a little more modern and whimsical.

I was so thankful that Erin and Nathan put their trust in me and booked a lot of my referrals creating a dream team of amazing vendors from Auntie Em’s to their fabulous photographer, Captured By Aimee.  Pair that with the crew at Marvimon and the day couldn’t have gone smoother or been more beautiful.

Apple Blossom Engagement from Jayme Van Geest Photography

I seriously need to move next door to an apple orchard.  And I am not kidding.  Because one look at these lovely images from Jayme Van Geest Photography and I was thoroughly convinced that Burlington, Ontario is the only place in the world that I want to live.  It’s the kind of breathtaking backdrop that is perfect for an afternoon stroll with your honey and that’s exactly what these two sweeties did.  It’s image after of pure e-session lovely and you can see it all right here.

From Jayme Van Geest Photography… Catherine and Alex are not only super sweet but have an incredible, authentic chemistry together. They are a balanced combination of romantic, whimsical and fun-loving when they interact with one another, and it was so fun watch and photograph! They are exactly the kind of couple I want to work with.

We chose a small apple orchard in Burlington, Ontario, Canada as the ideal spot for their shoot because it emphasized their natural, outdoorsy vibe, and Catherine’s love for all things feminine and floral (like pretty white apple blossoms!). Apple trees are in full bloom for only about 3-4 days in Ontario, so we had to time our photo shoot just right.

Chicago Engagement from Stacy Able Photography

Two stunning cuties, an adorable pup and the breathtaking backdrop that is The Windy City… if that isn’t the perfect combo for some engagement session magic, then I don’t know what is.  Especially when you add in the ever-amazing Stacy Able, who frolicked around every Chicago hotspot (5 miles!) with these two sweethearts to capture some serious love-filled images.  See them all right here.

From Stacy Able Photography… Natalia is a new resident of Chicago from Canada. The couple met at Law School in Michigan. To show off her new city, their downtown Chicago engagement session highlighted many elements of famous Chicago downtown architecture. We started near the exchange building, which I recognized from my W New Years Eve wedding, and worked our way to the beautiful Chicago Lakeshore parks. One inner city courtyard was particularly special as the two often meet up for lunch dates. Likely we walked a good 5-6 miles seeing various buildings, art, and capturing this adorable couple’s images along the way. I’m looking forward to their summer 2014 wedding at the Patrick C. Haley Mansion in Joliet, Illinois.

From the Bride-to-be… We met in law school. We had many classes together. We became friends quickly and eventually started dating. Alek proposed Christmas Eve in front of the Christmas tree after we all finished opening presents. He knows how much I love Christmas and so he thought it would be a good time to pop the question. My family was visiting from Canada and they were there to witness the event. They didn’t know he was proposing until a few minutes before it actually happened. I’m so happy I got to share that special moment with them.

We chose downtown for pictures, because it’s such a beautiful city that it would be a shame not to showcase it. We are kind of new to downtown living and we thought it would be a perfect way to capture our period of downtown life in our engagement pictures. I also thought it would be interesting for both of our families who live overseas to have a glimpse of Chicago!

Amalfi Coast Wedding from Forever Photography Studio

Ever since my sister’s engagement in Italy, I’ve been shamelessly begging her to return to the Amalfi Coast for her Big Day.  Sure, a stateside wedding would be beautiful, but wouldn’t it be sooo much fun to say “I do” in the very spot they pledged their eternal love?  I think so.  And now, thanks to the ever-wonderful Forever Photography Studio, I have a little something special to help me in all of my persuading; a little something I like to call the world’s most perfect wedding.  It’s an Amalfi Coast masterpiece, complete with one of the most stunning bride and grooms you ever did see.  Click here for all of the pretty.

Romantic

From the Bride… I had always dreamed of a beach wedding as my love of the sun and beach aren’t exactly hidden facts; however, as Doug and I were relaxing on a beach in Maui thinking it might just be the perfect spot, I saw something in a “Travel and Leisure” magazine that captured my attention. It was an advertisement for a Mediterranean cruise. I said to Doug, “Let’s just get married in Italy!” Doug had proposed to me on the beautiful Isle of Capri in Italy on October 6, 2009, and we both agree it was the most scenic and romantic spot… along with the wonderful memories we have of the evening we got engaged. That day, we had visited the famous La Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto) then headed to Piazza Vittoria where we took the Monte Solaro Chairlift, reaching 589 metres above sea level, to the highest part of the island with wonderful views of Capri and its Faraglioni up to the Gulf of Naples and the Isle of Ischia. It’s really quite breathtaking! That evening we had dinner on the beautiful terrace of the Capri Tiberio Palace Resort and Spa where we enjoyed a candlelit dinner alone as we were the only couple enjoying the beautiful fall evening, which in Italy felt more like summer. Doug asked me to marry him that evening and of course I said “Si” or yes! With all of our special memories of Italy and especially Capri, we knew that we wanted to return to the Amalfi Coast for our wedding.

We planned our wedding for the picturesque town of Positano on Italy’s beautiful Amalfi Coast. For a US citizen to have a legal wedding in Italy, one must first go through “hoops” (too detailed to explain here) and then it must be done in a “Comune or Town Hall.” The Comune di Positano is a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea, which is why we selected it over Capri or the other towns along the Amalfi Coast. We flew our photographers out from Austin, Texas, Jerry and Jona Blackwell of Forever Photography Studio, to capture every special moment of our celebration. It started with a bridal session the day prior to the wedding at Villa Rufolo in Ravello. You honestly can’t imagine how stunning this villa was– vibrant flowers, beautiful trees and did I mention outrageous views?!

Our wedding day itself was beautiful and the bright blue Mediterranean Sea sparkled behind us as we said “Si lo voglio” (I do) to each other. Linda Gatto, our wedding coordinator had truly created our dream ceremony. The floral garlands were beautiful, the music from the harpist was very elegant and I know she made a special request to “Mother Nature” for us, as the weather was divine. Rosa, our celebrant, was the “icing on the cake” as her warmth, personality and passion for her work led to the most wonderful ceremony we could have hoped for. She put so much joy and spirit into the poems I had selected for her to read in creating a personalized ceremony. She led us graciously through our vows and exchanging of the rings. It was truly the happiest day of our lives and we are so grateful to Linda and Rosa for providing exceptional service. We love you both and are so glad that we have two wonderful friends now along the Amalfi Coast!

Following the ceremony, we again headed to Ravello and made a quick stop at the historic town square with all its charm for a gelato and caffé. Then it was on to Villa Cimbrone for additional pictures. Once again, this villa will leave you speechless! Countless gardens, statues, colorful flowers and the Infinity Terrace surround you, which alone would be reason to visit. It is stunning! We ended the evening hosted by Antonio Mansi at Hotel Parsifal for an intimate candlelit dinner on a terrace with amazing views of the Amalfi Coast and sea. I have come to the definitive conclusion that the Italian translation for “hospitality” is “Antonio” as I’ve truly never witnessed a more welcoming and hospitable man. He truly made our evening special and the perfect ending to our fairytale wedding. I can’t possibly recommend Antonio enough and the next time we visit the Amalfi Coast, we plan to stay with Antonio and his brothers at Hotel Parsifal, where our beautiful centerpieces are waiting for our return.  Hopefully Antonio will be putting them to good use until then creating magical evenings for others to enjoy!  Grazie mille Antonio!  I have to say though that one of the funniest and most memorable events of the day was our car ride back to Positano. Picture an entire hour (at least) of Doug and Jona belting out the greatest hits all the way from the 70s to the 90s. It was hysterical!  Even if Jerry and I had tried to join in, we would have been no match for the combined talent of this dynamic duo! Honestly, next time we see them, I want to see Doug and Jona sing together in a Karaoke bar!  I think the driver must have thought we were all insane… but good times it was!

But wait, it wasn’t over yet! For the following day and our after session, I arranged for a private boat trip over to Capri with Michele of Amalfi Yachting Charters, who gave us the boat ride of our lives!  I highly recommend a trip with him!  After arriving to Capri, we once again took the chairlift up to Monte Solero, the highest point on Capri and Anacapri, only this time in our wedding attire! We then made our way to the town square where we were surrounded by a circle of both locals and tourists cheering “Auguri” (congratulations) as we danced and Doug serenaded me to “Your Song” by Elton John, which is our song. We then visited the exact spot where Doug had proposed a few days shy of being exactly 3 years prior. It was truly the wedding of our dreams! It was very small as not many were able to travel to Italy, but it was the most magical, memorable and beautiful experience we could have hoped for… and thanks to Jerry and Jona, we have beautiful pictures that captured every special moment to share with our family and friends.

Fernbank Museum of Natural History Wedding from Drew Newman

You know what’s sweeter than a Southern-inspired (+ drop-dead gorgeous) wedding?  A Southern-inspired wedding held at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History with a cuter than cute dinosaur theme.  That’s what we call sweet and then some, and when it’s all paired up with lush blooms from Petal’s Edge Floral, fab paper goods from Simply Honest and J.Crew bridesmaid frocks in the loveliest of navy blue hues, it takes it to entirely new level of pretty.  See it all captured by Drew Newman in the full gallery.

From the Bride… We met at Georgia Tech in 2010, and started dating after a trip to New Orleans together, so it only made sense that he would take me back there to propose.  We got engaged in August 2011, and set our date for June 2012. Fernbank was the perfect venue for us as it had that unique science/engineering touch that really resonated with us. It inspired us to use a subtle dinosaur theme in a few places, especially our paper goods, which are my favorite detail.

My something old was my pearls, which belonged to my great grandmother. They are one of my most treasured possessions. My something borrowed was my diamond bracelet, borrowed from my aunt who also gave me the center stone for my engagement ring.

My bridesmaids processed to a string arrangement of “I’m Yours,” while I processed to Wagner’s “Bridal March.” After a short-but-sweet Methodist ceremony, we recessed to a string arrangement of “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”

I loved everything about my flowers. I adore hydrangeas and peonies, and wanted a just-picked kind of look. For dinner, we had slightly upscale Southern fare – the fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and roasted red pepper aioli were my favorite! After dinner, toasts, and parent dances, we partied the night away until our sparkler exit where the Ramblin’ Wreck picked us up. Riding to our hotel in the Wreck was one of the coolest experiences of our lives.

South Boston Wedding from Juan Maclean Photography

We’ve seen a lot of fabulous entrances on SMP, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen the Groom and his groomsmen enter the ceremony on a zip line. Actually I know we haven’t. That is until today. And that’s really just the beginning of all the fabulous snapped up by Juan Maclean Photography. We’re talking the amazing setting of Artists for Humanity mixed with the Paris Creperie food truck mixed with one seriously fun couple. Yep. It’s that good. And it’s all waiting for you right here.

From Juan Maclean PhotographyThis was one of my favorite weddings of this past year. Fun couple, fun wedding party, fun venue, fun all around. The wedding was held at the Artists for Humanity building located in South Boston, MA. Everything from beginning to end reflected both Tim and Wendy’s fun and genuine personalities. I think it’s very cliché to say that love was in the air but the reality is that both Tim and Wendy genuinely loved and served one another on their wedding day. The wedding was great because they were great.

They had family members and friends that traveled from across the country to celebrate with them. The ceremony, service, food and decor were fantastic. One of the highlights of the day was the groom and the groomsmen coming down a zip line at the beginning of the ceremony. That was a first for me, and something I will never forget. I’ve been shooting for years and that has to have been one of the most original and fun wedding entrances that I have even been a part of.

For the reception, the Paris Creperie, a local food truck favorite in Boston, provided food. This added to the already unique and stylish wedding this was.

The most amazing feeling I took from the day was the emphasis in both the ceremony and reception for all guests to feel like one family. As I reflect and look back at the photos I am again reminded of why I love what I do. It was a weekend I will never forget and I am so very thankful to have a been a part of it.

Historic Cedarwood Wedding from Rachel Moore Photography

I’ve got a big case of the warm fuzzies after spending more time with this wedding than I’m willing to admit. Designs in Paper drew me and (I presume) every single guest into a day which can only be described as beautiful. Cedarwood Weddings put it’s stamp on the soiree, so of course you know it’s stunning. Rachel Moore Photography‘s images are visual proof.

From the blishing bride… I think what made our wedding day so unique and special was all of the people that were there to celebrate with us. My mom and dad currently live in Indonesia and most of our friends are from all over the world, while Scott’s family and friends are all from the East Coast, so it meant a lot to us that almost all of our friends and family would travel from so far to be there with us. That said Scott and I really wanted to incorporate our time in Nashville together, but also all the things that had defined our relationship and hope to define our marriage and we did that through the favors, heritage photos, and all the small details throughout the wedding day!

I think what inspired my wedding style was the idea of laid-back elegance. I wanted every guest to feel at home, but at the same time really get to enjoy the beauty that Cedarwood has to offer. I love shades of coral and tangerine because I think that they are warm and inviting but still pop with energy. Cedarwood was wonderful in that they fully embraced my idea of incorporating candlelight and crystals throughout the night to give everything a soft sparkle. I wanted our wedding to have a little bit of magic to the night.

Scott and I knew Cedarwood was what we were looking for the second we walked onto the property. The historic house, the wrap-around porch, and gorgeous grounds were just what had imagined for our big day. And the part that sealed the deal for Scott were the mason jars filled with candles found throughout the property in the trees! It was an outdoor venue that was gorgeous!

My favorite memory of the day was actually standing up on the altar exchanging vows with Scott. I can’t really remember all the vows (ha ha), but the grin across his face made me smile so much I couldn’t stop smiling either. It was just that moment I realized Scott and I were actually getting married!

Sprinkles Shower from Amy Jordan + BASH by Brenly

It’s FRIDAY!!! Which means that today is all about parties, cocktails and a little bit of take-me-to-the-weekend lovely here on SMP. And we’re starting with what has become my latest and hardest to let go obsessions. Sprinkles. It started with this Sprinkles Party Theme that we shot a few months back and has taken many a- turn since them. Landing directly on this ADORABLE shower from photographer Amy Jordan and designer Bash by Brenly. Click here to see all of the gorg details.

From Amy & Jordan PhotographyThis shoot incorporated lots of “pun intended” details referencing sprinkles from the sky and, of course, sprinkles for the tongue. Many of the sweet treats were simple DIY creations Brenly created in her own kitchen, and much of the decor was purchased at affordable shops like Home Goods and Party City. We had so much fun shooting this shower, and would love to see it inspire brides and bridesmaids everywhere! Thank you so much for taking the time to consider us on your incredible blog. You do amazing work, and it would be an absolute honor. We’re looking forward to hearing from you soon!

From designer, BASH by Brenly

In designing this shoot, I realized that many brides these days are having one, two, even three showers before their special day. This creates a fabulous opportunity for creativity and variation amongst the celebrations. After all, how many lingerie showers can a girl have?

My bride, Lindsay, for “Sprinkled with Love” was quirky, bright, and bubbly so I knew I had to think outside the pink princess box. This shoot married rain sprinkles and candy sprinkles all in one dessert bar! Marshmallow Cloud Pops, Rice Krispie Rain Drops, Bride to Be Funfetti Bars, and Take Cover Umbrella cookies are just a few “pun intended” treats that were included. Guests were encouraged to wash it down with a champagne shower or perfectly blue martini. Lindsay felt the enthusiasm and happiness behind every detail. She truly felt “Sprinkled with Love”.

Texas B&B Wedding from Brett Heidebrecht

I love a bride who isn’t afraid to get her hands a little dirty. The bride who’ll roll up and her sleeves and DIY the heck out of every last detail with a smile on her face. And while some may think the DIY wedding has already had its “moment,” this sweet-as-can-be Texas soiree proves that so, sooo wrong. Brett Heidebrecht worked this usual magic behind the camera, and believe it or not, there’s more to be swooned right over here.

From Brett Heidebrecht… Mike & Gentry had a pretty small wedding in Athens, TX which took place on Plum Pond Bed & Breakfast. A cute little house with some beautiful land. Gentry was the epitome of a DIY bride. Anything she could do herself she did.

We had perfect light and perfect weather. Loving family and friends made for a delightful evening celebration.

Gentry and the family made most of the decor by pairing different elements together. The lined the tables with wood and succulents displayed in various ways. They strung lights over the dance floor and it made for a beautiful canopy and provided a perfect amount of light.

Prospect Park Boathouse Wedding from Anne-Claire Brun Photography

I love a Bride with a vision, particularly when that vision is as beautiful as this. Because the pretty things that danced around in this lovely Bride’s head during her planning process turned out to be whimsical perfection. With details that make your heart flutter and a love that will make it do flips, every image from Anne-Claire Brun is happiness defined. See them all here.

From the Bride…As much as I like to claim it was love at first sight, Jeff and I ran in the same circle of friends and chatted in passing on a few occasions. However, we were never formally introduced. To be exact, it took three times before an opportunity presented itself. As they say, third time’s a charm! The third meet was on a beautiful summer night in 2008. Jeff and I were at a friends’ rooftop party in Lower East Side. It was here when a good friend introduced us to each other as the “other friend” who did not “drink.” Yes, both Jeff and I are quite a rarity, especially in New York City. We chuckled at the candid introduction, as both of us were obviously used to this label. Then the song “Oblivion” by Anything Box came on. We both started singing it together and began discussing our music interests, which ranged from hip hop to indie rock and more. Through these two commonalities, our conversation surpassed small talk and into sharing stories about our upbringings in small town America as Chinese kids in restaurant families. From then, a wonderful friendship began. We literally have been inseparable since Jeff and Sandy have been inseparable since.

During our two year anniversary in October, Jeff planned out a secret outing that he would not unveil. The day started at our favorite Brooklyn brunch spot – Brooklyn Label. Afterwards, Jeff hurriedly and nervously drove us an hour and half out of the city still giving me no hints. I initially assumed this was going to be a nice pumpkin-picking afternoon. However, once the car pulled up the road, I saw a massive field speckled by large weave baskets with neon-colored fabrics waiting to be filled with…hot air! We took off into the air and had a beautiful ride over Northeast’s fall foliage. It was not until we landed did Jeff pulled me to the side and got on one knee and popped the question. Of course, I said YES!

Within weeks of the proposal high, we began our search for the perfect venue. Jeff and I knew we wanted an outdoor wedding with a view in Brooklyn, since it’s where we live. Initially, we thought we were going to go for another venue in Prospect Park, but when we approached the Boathouse after walking across the park, we immediately knew this was the spot. The Venetian styled building sits spectacularly by the Prospect Park Lake. Upon entering the space, we immediately fell in love with the flow of space…AND you can rent a mini boat for you and your guests to ride after the ceremony! We finalized the date within a month time.

Unlike most, I decided not to limit myself on colors, so we went with yellow gold, gray silver and light coral to compliment the romantic setting. Additionally, I wanted to make sure there was a bit of an Asian flair, since my husband and I are Chinese. I took these choices and went on hunt to find our florist. There are so many choices out there, but I wanted to work with a creative small shop. I stumbled across Park Deli, a floral shop (that also sells skateboards!) located close to the venue. Michael and Valentine, owners of Park Deli, were fabulous to work with! We wanted Asian ceramic vases to represent our heritage and they found these simple cream Japanese-style containers. The flowers and colors we selected with them in the beginning really brought all the décor and the bridesmaid’s dressed together.

With two main things checked off our list, I began day dreaming about how I would like the big day to look. The ceremony takes place on a small pier outside facing the Lullwater Bridge and landscape. As to not get lost in the view, I knew we had to create a focal point. I stumbled upon Everly Lane on Etsy who creates fun tissue tassel garlands. After measuring the pier, I created an image of how I wanted the garlands to hang above us on our special day. I sent this to Everly Lane with my color selection and in a month it came in! We had Park Deli install it the day of.

I definitely partook in a lot of the design, since we did not have a wedding planner. For the entrance, I went to a flea market and bought an old antique frame that would hold the guests name cards and table assignment. For the guestbook, I designed a massive puzzle and had someone at my work, which is an architecture firm, help me laser cut it out. The guests were instructed to write warm words on the “white” side of the puzzle and place it in an apothecary jar. To keep guests cool outside, I ordered the Chinese sandalwood fans that were placed on each chair. It’s amazing how much guests enjoyed these favors! During my down time, I started painting our cake toppers with each having a bit of our physical character. Park Deli then provided a few of our selected flowers to be sprinkled on the cake. I found this to be a quick and affordable way to decorate a wedding cake!

There is an upper level to our venue, which has a balcony that overlooks the ceremony steps and lake. We decided to take advantage of this upper level and stationed a makeshift photo booth. Our friend, Ken, helped us set up the equipment and space, while my bridesmaids created the backdrop. It was the groomsmen’s responsibility to go shop for props…and shop they did! You can check out the slideshow I created here – Jeff & Sandy Photo Booth Video (http://vimeo.com/52757840).

Luckily, my husband’s sister owns an apparel production company in Manhattan, so she was able to create any textile needs I had. Therefore, I browsed the Fashion District for fabrics to bring my vision together. I finalized with table runners in gray and light coral to ground the dining tables, while the main table linens were basic white to keep the space light and airy. For the longest time, I wanted a theme for our reception and fell in love with the phrase “Eat, Drink and be Married!” With the help of my bridesmaids, I created three favor jars for each table that were individually labeled with one word of the phrase. The labeled jars contained favors that represented each word – “Eat” contained chopsticks; “Drink” contained striped straws, “Married” contained sparklers. In Chinese, fireworks (a.k.a. sparklers) were used to ward off evil spirits and we thought this was a perfect way to end the night.

All this of course would be a visual lost if Anne-Claire did not capture it! I think the photos speak for themselves! We scheduled our first meet at a coffee shop and were immediately enamored by her personality and work. She was so down to earth and patient in telling us how the day would go from getting ready to the end of the night. It rained for a few hours before our ceremony, which worried me. However, she never fretted and assured us the pictures would turn out great. I truly believe that getting along with your vendors makes this entire experience better.

My most memorable moment of our special day was our boat ride around the lake during sunset with our closest friends, right after Jeff and I said our vows. It was during this quiet moment when my husband and I were able to take a step back and enjoy all that had transpired. As we returned to the dock, we saw how all the guests were also enjoying their drinks inside and outside! It truly was a beautiful day and we thank everyone who assisted and supported us.

Boca Grande Wedding from Sarah Tucker Events + Tom Root Photography

This is the kind of wedding that just screams perfection.  The kind of perfection that can only come from a breathtaking Boca Grande setting (I’m looking at you, The Gasparilla Inn), a gallery of lovely from Tom Root Photography and a beyond beautiful Jenny Packham masterpiece.  That’s a combo that makes for one amazing wedding, and when it’s all planned by the genius that is Sarah Tucker Events and features gorgeous invites from Swiss Cottage Designs, well… we call that a day of non-stop pretty.  See it all right here in the full gallery.

From Sarah Tucker EventsJulie and Ryan stumbled upon Gasparilla Island over Christmas when they were visiting family in Fort Myers, FL.  They fell in love the second they stepped foot on the island.  The official festivities started on Friday night at a local haunt in Boca Grand – The Temptation.  At 5pm guests hopped on a golf cart to the ceremony site at The Gasparilla Inn.   They were greeted with Rose and lemonade prior to the ceremony.  The bride walked down the aisle with her father to live music of “Such Great Heights” by Iron and Wine.  The recessional was “You’ve Got the Love” by Florence and the Machine.  The couple wrote their own vows and their close friend married them.  Julie loves paper products and it showed.  Everything was dripping in gorgeous calligraphy from Makewells Design.  From the ceremony to the reception to the place cards and menu cards.  Long feasting tables and tons of pink peonies lined the tables.  Toward the end of the night, the Inn served their signature gasparilla island drink- The Hummer.

Hello there lovelies. You know we look out for you here at SMP, so when we hear of an event you simply must check out we have to shout it from our virtual rooftops. It’s out duty. So listen up pretties, this Couture Bridal Event at  The White Dress by the Shore is worthy of clearing your calendars for. Trust me. We’re talking 10% off some of our favorite designers all sitting in one oh-so-pretty shop. Couture-Bridal-1

Words of Styling Wisdom from Beth of The White Dress by the ShoreWe selected the Chelsea gown from Amsale as the perfect look for the Ocean House. The classic silhouette is ideal for the quintessential New England setting. The silk faille fabric is crisp and clean and possesses a timeless quality, that lends itself beautifully to this venue.

Couture-Bridal-2

Inspiration from Sarah True of True EventThe dress is one of the most important details for the wedding day and one every bride dreams of. And I would say for most of our brides it is the highlight of the planning process. It captures a moment in time and a feeling for guests that not only will they get when they arrive at the venue but a feeling we hope to carry through all of the details starting with the dress.

This dress by Amsale defines timeless elegance. It is classic and sophisticated in a subtle way, as is the Ocean House. It has a warmth about it without being over the top, it is simply gorgeous! Using this dress and the Ocean house as inspiration I’d create a color palette of blues (cool tones)for the linens/bridesmaids dresses etc, that would play on the colors of the ocean and bring in a mix of metallics silver and gold in the candles and china and glassware on the tables, and in the florals bring in soft peach, whites, and greens. Softly weaving into the details accents of the beach. Using capiz shell chandeliers throughout the tent, lined with soft white fabric. I think this coastal wedding would be the perfect blending of coastal timeless elegance. With one of the most gorgeous backdrops on the east coast the Ocean House is the perfect venue to create this sophisticated elegant, coastal affair!

The NotWedding Atlanta Bridal Shower from Molly McKinley Designs

Can I just say that I am super jealous of you Atlanta lovelies?  Super.  Jealous.  Because this weekend (August 18th to be exact) you get to attend The NotWedding, that crazy cool bridal show alternative that actually lets you attend a fake wedding to see all of your area vendors at work.  It’s genius + fun + all kinds of amazing and today we’re getting a little sneak peek with a bridal shower kick-off from Molly McKinley Designs and Love Like Weddings.  I’m talking Southern-inspired goodness where classic meets contemporary in the prettiest of ways.  So dive into the full gallery of lovely and then make sure you get your tickets for this weekend’s festivities… ASAP.

From Molly McKinley DesignsWhile brainstorming for the Atlanta NotWedding Styled Shoot, we focused on the importance of relationships and community while planning a wedding. A Bridal Shower was a great opportunity to step away from the perfectly set formal table and refocus on the friends there to celebrate the Bride. In the breakfast nook at Madison Oaks, we placed a beautiful trestle table adorned with dainty appetizers and romantic, flowing florals. It was the perfect place for guests to casually gather, meet one another, and fill their plates with yummy bites from Sun in My Belly. By having guests sit around a coffee table piled with gifts, the setting became intimate and almost real. We all felt like someone should be opening those pretty gifts! The guests rocked in the rocking chairs on the front porch of Madison’s most gorgeous Southern home between shooting. The vendors involved just smiled with sincerity all day because of their love for their craft. This afternoon was so lovely. (Can we do it again?)

Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Wedding from Elizabeth Messina Photography

Just when you imagine that this day of gorgeous events from Elizabeth Messina could not possibly be topped, it gets topped in a major, major way. An elegant, crazy beautiful kind of way masterminded by Merryl Brown Events  with flower combos like you wouldn’t believe by Mindy Rice set against the prettiness of Ojai Valley Inn & Spa and all finished off with a French Patisserie. Phew, it’s A LOT but I promise you it’s so worth a good long look. Have a peek at all the beautiful imagery captured by Elizabeth, including some sweet as can be family portraits right here.

On top of the oodles of images is a beautiful film representation of the day captured by Isaac Hernandez. And if you’re in the mood for a little more, he also put together a sweet little ditty centered around the French Patisserie portion of the evening. Click here to view!

From Merryl Brown EventsOur bride and groom’s amazing wedding ceremony took place in the intimate Ojai Valley Inn Herb Garden. Cozy, with family and friends and the couple’s baby in her antique, flower-draped pram, we created a ceremony site that was perfect for the garden setting. Two antique urns on beautiful pillars held dramatic floral and fresh greenery, adding a beautiful depth and texture to the ceremony site. Situated on the sprawling green grass in the field below the ceremony was a classic white tent, draped in taffeta, with generous curtains pulled back with garlands of rich, peachy-golden toned floral. The peach tones floral arrangements were stunning, as they meandered down each table in a variety of antique vessels, enhanced by the natural amber glow of candle light. The room had a warm and romantic tone, and was particularly sweet with the grass below… a welcome juxtaposition to such a stunning and elegant tent. The custom wood and linen pillars and inset linen ceiling were fabulous and unique décor elements. The dark wood dining chairs were lovely, particularly at the end of each oval table, which held two chairs with a custom ruffled linen slipcover to match the table drape. Those slipcovered chairs were such charming elements.

The piece de resistance of the event was a patisserie and a charcuterie. The patisserie was every girl’s dream… while the charcuterie, every man’s. What an amazing and original reveal it was when these two beautifully designed boutique “stores” were revealed to guests’ delight after the cake was cut! The lighting and interior of each made them seem as if they were plucked from a tiny street in France.

The Patisserie had a tall, white display case, flanked by two elegantly framed gilded mirrors. Three crystal chandeliers hung from above, illuminating the soft pink draping on the walls of the shop. Cloches of fresh baked goods, truffles and macaroons all made by former Martha Stewart Food Editor Elizabeth Colling were bountiful. Staggeringly beautiful cakes and cupcakes were presented in an array of flavors and muted colors by the uber talented Robyn Loves Cake. Antique porcelain dishes were stacked high, allowing guests to help themselves or be served by the adorable white and pink frocked Patisserie attendants.

The Charcuterie/Fromagerie was more on the rustic side… as if you walked into a sixth generation family owned store. A tall armoire flanked with large chalkboards listing the ‘menu’ and an old French table with marble blocks displayed an array of worldly cheeses. French bread baskets hung on the walls, filled with fresh baguettes; sliced cured meats and olives were piled high on the table for guests to sample. Simple white dishes were stacked behind the apron clad servers ready to accommodate the requests of the “customers”. This was a wedding that was so incredibly charming and love filled from beginning to end. The video really helps to bring all of these images to life.

Hudson Valley Wedding from Todd France Photography + True Florette

When a bride who loves flowers gets married and brings on True Florette to handle the design of the day (including all the flowers) it is good. Everyone is happy, including this giddy wedding blogger. Todd France Photography’s images of the day are like a spring breeze and butterflies in my stomach, all rolled into one!

From the designer… Maggie and Eoin’s s Summer wedding was celebrated outdoors on the grounds of Torne Valley Vineyards in the scenic Lower Hudson Valley area of New York on June 15, 2013.

The bride was inspired by rich colors and textures found in nature and she infused loads of color into the details throughout the day. Maggie’s bridal bouquet was bursting with vibrant blooms and interesting botanicals including ranunculus, pincushion protea, peonies, dahlia, blueberry branch, succulents and garden roses all in fresh Summer shades of tangerine, coral and aubergine. As a special touch, Maggie’s bouquet handle was wrapped in lace from her Mother’s wedding gown, and her Gucci bridal shoes added an unexpected fun pop of color!

The groom originally hails from Ireland and careful attention was paid to welcoming guests from abroad and blending both families in the semi-traditional ceremony on the lawn of the vineyard. Maggie and Eoin said their vows under a birch chuppah, complete with an Irish blessing and breaking of the glass.

Guests strolled across the vineyard lawn with parasols and custom-printed fans to beat the Summer heat. Maggie’s love of flowers was evident at the escort card table where a colorful garden arrangement welcomed guests. Custom-designed wooden place card holders by True Florette held place cards handmade by Maggie and her Mother with paper from Paper Source. (The bride is a medical resident – how she found time to make place cards we’ll never know!) To complement the vineyard’s elegance, traditional elements were infused with rustic details, including aged wood serving trays, iron candelabras adorned with simple crystals, and cut glass cocktail vases.

The festive black-tie reception was a true reflection of the bride and groom’s style and personality- filled with joy and exuberance!

Ojai Valley Rehearsal Dinner from Elizabeth Messina Photography

In the scheme of wedding weekends, rehearsal dinners are a pretty big deal. They set the tone for everything to follow, and give couples a chance to shake those jitters before the Big Day. And this Ojai Valley Inn affair? Well, it’s the kind of rehearsal I’d die to attend. Mostly because Merryl Brown Events and Mindy Rice were the masterminds behind every rustic-inspired detail, and Elizabeth Messina was there to capture it all. And if you think this is awesome, just wait until you see the real wedding coming up next!

From Merryl Brown Events... Rustic, dusty and muted tones filled the old red barn at the Ojai Valley Inn with a charming old world elegance through the use of beautiful textiles, open organic flowers and a dappling of flickering candles. This was truly a welcoming and unexpected detour for a barn that frequently displays a country “barn party” look. Vignettes composed of chic linen sofas and oversized linen chairs were arranged in areas that beckoned guests to sit down and take in the surrounding energy with a favorite cocktail in hand! Billowing curtains, sewn from yards and yards of earthy toned linen were pulled back with dramatic floral sashes, giving the barn a fresh and lovely look. Diner was served at a collection of round and rectangular dining tables draped in lovely soft green woven textiles and English floral La Tavola linens, creating an eclectic and wonderful late spring look. Music played all evening long and then kicked into high gear on the hand-painted dance floor while ice cream sundaes were served from a rustic wooden table, along with footed mugs of steaming coffee. This rehearsal dinner was a glorious way to kick off an epic wedding weekend!

Travel to Napa Valley with Moira Events

My husband Tait and I lived in California for 6 years. And a weekend trip to Napa Valley, Sonoma or the surrounding vineyards was kind of, dare I say, a regular thing? I had no clue how young and spoiled I was and while I never took the sea of perfection that is Wine Country for granted, I didn’t know that one day, I would miss it just as much as most people miss being near the ocean. So when Jessica Beltran of Moira Events sent over this little Napa weekend excursion, well, I fell hopelessly in love all over again. Click here to see the whole spread.

From Jessica…Whenever we have a long weekend (or get a touch of wanderlust), my hubby and I hop on a quick flight to Napa. Being from San Diego, its a perfect weekend getaway. To most people, the Napa/Sonoma valley area is where wine grows…what they aren’t familiar with is the valley’s completely bewitching beauty. Gnarled trees covered with moss, rolling hills, tree lines, old fences, farm houses and jersey cows dot the landscape. Little mini villages, clustered together wit artisan chocolate shops, coffee houses, boutiques, antique stores and Michelin Star restaurants with brick lined sidewalks and quaint B&Bs….and to top it all off, there’s wineries around every corner and bend in the road.

WINE TASTING

On this particular trip, we did our usual round of wine tasting, including Nickel & Nickel, Far Niete, Schramsberg, Hall and White Hall Lane. We particularly enjoyed watching the hand riddling they have perfected at Schramsberg; and old and traditional way of turning champagne bottles that requires speed, accuracy and even more patience.

COOKING LESSONS

We also had the privilege of a cooking lesson with the Executive Chef at White Hall Lane. Their kitchen facility is sparkling new and beautiful, with a second floor patio overlooking their vineyards.

LODGING & FOOD

We stayed locally and were able to walk to the cafe for our morning cup of coffee as well as the most darling restaurant ever, The French Blue. The restaurant is arranged with long family style tables, with 4 top sections broken up with table top lamps and rosemary plants. The bright, white open space was gorgeous and relaxing. All the servers had the most amazing aprons (which are sold along with other products and items used in the restaurant. Check out their salt and pepper shakers and cast iron!).

All in all, a perfect trip. Head up to Napa if you ever have the opportunity, and remember that you’ll find beauty in far more places than the bottom of your wine glass!
