Maui Wedding from Opihi Love + Anthem Photography

So this couple originally had a wedding planned closer to home, but the more they thought about what they really wanted their wedding to be, the closer they got to Maui… until they packed their rings and bought their tickets to tie the knot on the Hawaiian sand. The result? Oh, just amazing. Anthem Photography’s images of the day (planned and flora’d by Opihi Love) are my favorite thing I’ve seen all week!

From the beautiful bride… We had always talked about a destination wedding. A wedding were we could spend a week celebrating with our closest friends and family, lying in the sun, playing in the ocean and completely relaxing before our big day. However, anyone who has planned a wedding knows, once you start weighing the pros and cons of a destination wedding, you realize that you need to surrender a great amount to have the wedding of your dreams.

Dave proposed on our 6th anniversary and we had to make that difficult decision. We elected to stay close to home, so everyone we knew would be able to celebrate with us. After a year of planning and prepping, our 7th anniversary arrived. We decided to completely scratch everything we had planned thus far, and began to plan the wedding of our dreams. We thought to ourselves, What better way to celebrate our love, then in Maui! Within the next week, we had our plane tickets booked, made calls to our closest friends and family and reserved a hotel for our guests to stay. It was the best decision of our lives (so far).

We spent a week in paradise with the people in our lives we love most, and made lifelong memories in the process! Some of the most memorable were the Welcome to Hawaii cocktail party in my parents suite, the day after everyone arrived and a small intimate take-out dinner by the resort pool with some of our best friends. We hosted a Beach Day as the rehearsal dinner that included paddle boards, surf boards, kayaks, bocce ball and the most amazing Hawaiian BBQ. It was the perfect time for everyone to get acquainted, to relax and to remember what getting married is all about, love and family (and fun).

Our ceremony was held at DT Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua. This was, at the risk of sounding clich, our favorite part of our wedding day! We asked a very close family friend to marry us, and when the day finally came he delivered THE perfect ceremony. Our ceremony was full of personal details which were uniquely us. Specifically, writing our own vows and a ring warming ceremony that included passing our rings around the circle of our friends and family, asking each for a blessing. The feeling of having our family and friends encircling and supporting us is something that well never forget.

We were completely astonished with the amount of love and effort that filled the entire trip. What started out as a group of 70 friends and relatives, by the end of the weekend, became one big family. Our wedding day exceeded any expectations we could have imagined. The entire weekend was our absolute dream wedding!

Country Elegance at Bootjack Ranch from Ruddock Photography

I may call New England home now, but there is still a big part of me that will always be proud I grew up in the south. Especially when I see a wedding like this one from Ruddock Photography. It reminds me of why southern weddings are so special – yes they are filled to the brim with details, but more importantly, they are focused on family and friends. And that just warms my heart right up. Because not only is this wedding lovely, it’s full of love, and that’s the best detail of all. See it all here.

From Ruddock PhotographyNot even waking up to one of the worst cold fronts in West-Texas could pull the warmth out of this amazing country wedding. Photographed by Ruddock Photography and set against the beautiful backdrop of BootJack Ranch in Goldthwaite, TX, this intimate country wedding had it all: hay rides, a ceremony under two giant Oaks, a horse and carriage, and a whole lot of love. The entire wedding had a pure, country feel to it, and Brookes’ handmade details and her mother’s homemade, individual apple pies gave southern style and warmth a whole new meaning.

Willowdale Estate Wedding from Molly Anne Photography

This wedding makes me happy. Plain and simple. The colors are enough to make me smile from ear to ear – the pretty pastels, the pops of coral, the patterned dress on the maid of honor – I couldn’t love it more. But the couple at the center of it all? They really take the cake. Because their love seeps through each gorgeous image from Molly Anne Photography, and that just happens to be my favorite thing ever. See every last moment here.

From the Bride… Joe and I have always thought of our relationship as the Greatest Love Story of all time. Every single triumph and “tragedy” of our 8-year relationship has served as yet another chapter of Our Story – each chapter working harmoniously together to create the Greatest Love Story. So to answer some questions, and to give you a better idea of “Leigh and Joe”, we’d like to share with you some of the most important chapters of Our Story…

Chapter L: Love Story
The spring semester of their freshman year, is when it all began. On the first day of a mandatory Psychology class, Leigh chose a seat in the second row, next to a girlfriend (who would later be dubbed The Matchmaker). Joe sat right behind Leigh which made poking and other childish flirtatious activities way too convenient. The Matchmaker knew him and the Matchmaker knew her. This Matchmaker saw something special in the two of them, that they didn’t quite see yet. But after a brief summer break, they had no choice but to see it too. The Love Story that lay before them was unavoidable and overpowering…

Chapter B: Bentley Days
Their Love Story picked up full speed during their Bentley Days. Joe and Leigh were both Falcons – Joe at the pitcher’s mound on the baseball field and Leigh at first base on the softball field. They shared a similar friend group which made their free time effortless and fun. They kept each other focused and motivated through many late night study dates in the Bentley Library, and they encouraged each other into the professional world as their college internships became careers.

Chapter W: Willowdale
When the two first stepped onto the Willowdale Estate Grounds in Topsfield, Massachusetts, they instantly fell in love. It’s handsome, masculine features coupled with its rich history and flawless flower gardens create the magical and unique event venue that the couple had dreamed of for their wedding reception. Since booking the venue in June 2012, the couple frequently visits the Willowdale Estate for special seasonal events. Joe and Leigh are so excited to have their reception at this Estate and are even more excited to make it part of their future memories.

Notes from the Bride & Groom:
During the past year of planning and creating for the wedding, our main goal throughout everything was to share Our Story with our guests. After all, Our Story wouldn’t be complete without them. Rather than typical table numbers, we assigned each table to represent a chapter of Our Story. Therefore, instead of Table 12, we had Table W for our “Willowdale” chapter. Each chapter description was written on the back of the menu cards, giving guests a sneak peek into Our Story. For interested guests, our Guest Book (which we invited everyone to sign) contained all chapters and was laced with images from our engagement session.

In terms of style, we wanted to use elements that were meaningful and beautiful to create a romantic garden party. Our color scheme of peaches, corals, yellows, pinks and greens formed a romantic and colorful combination that directly reflected our vibrant and playful personalities. Almost all elements were handmade projects – from the various signs and favors to the menu cards and Guest Book, each element was made with love, over a bottle (or several bottles) of wine! Throughout the past year, leading up to our wedding, we poured our hearts into every single detail as our small condo became a design center and storage facility.

For our vendors, we were careful to only book vendors we formed a connection with. From our beyond fabulous photographer to our impeccable florist, we booked each one because we knew they would accurately portray us. It’s so important to maintain your personalities and ideals throughout the entire process. Because after all, you want your wedding to reflect your relationship, to preach Your Story.

Our biggest piece of advice for brides and grooms-to-be is to keep your center, don’t sweat the small stuff. Your wedding will be absolutely perfect no matter what…so enjoy the planning, sprinkle it with some laughter, and look forward to your best chapter yet!

Georgia Wedding at Fair Weather Farms from Ryan Bernal Photography

This is a wedding that just exudes happiness.  The kind of wedding that is sooo filled with joy and sooo overflowing with love-filled moments, it will put one seriously large grin on your face.  It also happens to be a day that is chock-full of pretty, from the lush blooms crafted by Bella Floral to the adorable bride and groom (see: the description below) to the breathtaking Fair Weather Farms setting.  And honestly? That’s a combination that can’t be beat.  See it all captured by Ryan Bernal right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… While wiping the blur from my heavy eyes, and stretching out my legs and arms as far as they please, I heard birds chirping. I thought to myself, “birds don’t sing in the rain! Its NOT raining!” Springing out of bed, almost too fast for my feet and legs to brace my body, I peeked through the blinds only to see mist, fog and rain… The weather man spoke truth. I was hoping he was lying. He usually is, but not this time. He had been reporting 80% chance of rain all week on our wedding day. The entirety of that week was spent wrestling with my expectations of the “perfect” day and reminding myself that no matter what the weather is, I am becoming one with Jordan. But despite my efforts, I spent the week grieving the sun. Yes, I know it sounds dramatic, but I can be dramatic. Yet, on that early morning, seeing the misty rain, I wasn’t upset. I was peaceful. I knew I was marrying my best friend and nothing could snatch the smile from my heart or off my face at that moment. But the sun tired itself from hiding and peeked out its bright face the moment we arrived to the venue. It turned into the most beautiful Spring day that we all prayed for.

Our wedding day was more lovely than I ever imagined. I wasn’t one that “dreamed” about my wedding day. All Jordan and I knew was that we wanted it to be a great day of celebration, laughter, and joyful tears with the people we do life with. That included most of our vendors. Mostly everyone that we chose to be part the day, we either were close to or acquaintances with. We wanted to feel most like ourselves on our wedding day and being surrounded by people that we knew and knew us definitely helped. Our wedding coordinators Crevolyn and Emily with “Wonderful Events” made our lives smooth as butter while planning. Its a mother and daughter working together in making wedding planning fun and easy. We were SO thankful for them. In deciding a venue, we considered how much we love being outside, so we desired a place that would cater to that love. The first time we saw the venue in Monroe, we knew it was it. We saw a ginormous tree hanging its assortment of green over a stone ring built around its base. Still, cool waters sat peacefully behind the towering giant casting green and blue reflections for our delight. A screened pavilion lined with twinkling lights welcomed us inside. After venturing around the grounds, discovering hidden nooks in every turn, we decided to have our ceremony under the tree and the reception in the pavilion.

Our wedding had a vintage feel to it. There is something very special about old things. They have a story to tell. I love that. The idea took root when I started coming across vintage items, jewelry and clothing from some of my family members. I’m a sentimental person, so those things meant the world to have on our wedding day. My veil, garder, lace wrapped around my bouquet, hair piece and “going away dress” were made from my mothers wedding dress created and designed by Christopher from “Christopher’s Bridal” in Gainesville, Ga. I also wore her wedding shoes and pearl bracelet, and carried my great grandmothers wedding ring, which was beautifully wrapped in my bouquet by “Bella Flora.” The two women of “Bella Flora”, Susan and Renee, are fantastic. They did all the floral and design. Their creativity and willingness to portray all what we envisioned blew us away. There were other pieces of vintage items throughout the venue that added some sweetness as well. The tables in the reception area were scattered with handmade doilies made by my great grandmother and all the old books that were stacked in an array on the tables were from my father-in-laws book collection. Silver Candelabras, old tea pots, lanterns, burning candles and twinkling lights filled the reception area. One of my favorite finds was the chandelier that we hung from the tree we joined our lives under. Susan and Renee, along with some other great help, hung moss and wired it so it was lit as the sun went back into hiding.

Joyful, dreamy and blissful are the words I would use to describe the day. Ive heard from others that the day flies by, so being mindful of that, I attempted to hold each moment and detail in my mind, being present in conversations, intimate glances, hard belly laughs, my leaping heart, salty tears absorbing into my cheeks and moist cake and icing being stuffed up my nose. Thank you, Jordan.

Mimosas fizzing, steaming curling irons and an aroma of orange blossom perfume teased my senses while preparing to see my future husband. Tiffany from “Tiffany and Co. Hair Salon” in Gainesville was there to assist with our hair and my best friend Olivia who is a Mary Kay consultant did our make up. Anticipating this moment and being with your closest friends and family is so special. I will cherish that time we had in prayer, laughter and conversation before I ventured down with Ryan, our photographer, Teejay, our videographer of Anchor Heart Films and my dear friend, Kelli, to play, what felt like, hide and seek with my groom before our special moment.

I wasn’t sure where we were meeting and I didn’t care. I just wanted to see him. Following Ryan, with shaky hands, deep breaths and a full heart, I made my way down towards the lake into one of the hidden nooks. Seeing Jordan standing alone, waiting for me, his bride, was overwhelmingly beautiful. I had giant butterflies in my stomach like it was the first time I was seeing my husband, yet, in that moment thinking of all the things we had been through. Touching him on the shoulder signaling him to turn around was a thrilling moment. There were tears, giggles and many sighs of relief. I had completely forgotten that Teejay and Ryan were even capturing this moment. That is what is wonderful about working with them. They capture who you are and give you the freedom to be just that.

After seeing Jordan from our “first look” I was much more relaxed and just READY! As the ceremony approached, things got real. Really real. Our officiant was Scott Smith. He had walked us through our premarital counseling, so it was an honor to us to have him there. He and his wife have impacted us as a couple in a tremendous way. Jordan and I have always wanted to write our vows. Hearing the promises and heart from your best friend and life partner in front of friends, family and our Lord is extremely powerful. Racing down the isle as Mr. And Mrs. Holcombe was so fun. I wanted our pronouncement as husband and wife for the first time to be extra special, so I shaped antique music paper into a cone and secured them with hodge podge glue and filled them all with rose petals. I attached a note to each cone saying “When Mr. and Mrs. Holcombe walk your way , throw the petals and yell hooray!” They were given to all the guests on the inside aisles and it made for such a sweet and unforgettable beginning of marriage.

Then the feasting, dancing and celebration began. When walking into the pavilion, we were engulfed by waves of love and support. We truly felt celebrated and immensely blessed . Luna’s restaurant in Gainesville was our caterer. They were amazing to work with, the food was delicious and their display was flawless. We filled our bellies and hit the dance floor soon after. I felt like my feet were going to fall off after the reception. We danced late into the night ending with a run through a tunnel made of the best friends, family and sparklers.

Southampton Wedding from Images by Berit

Brides who think outside of the box in the most gorgeous ways are ladies I can adore. Take this bride, for instance. Her wedding took full advantage of her stunning home and Save the Date created a soiree around a harvest theme. Totally something I’ve never seen before, but totally something I love. Images by Berit was on hand to capture the whole beautiful day, and we can’t thank Berit enough for sending them our way!

From the photographer… Lilly and Niklas had a beautiful, hot summer day for their backyard wedding in South Hampton, NY. It was important to them to be surrounded by the place, people, and things they love most. They had a beautiful clear top tented wedding reception in their backyard, and used local produce and resources. Lilly chose a ‘harvest’ type of theme for her decor, using local organic vegetables and beautiful tree branches for her table decor. When she and Nik first moved into together in their home in South Hampton, they planted a group of birch trees in their backyard that they knew would some day be a part of their wedding – and it was! We took most of the family photos by these beautiful trees. The weekend ended on a beautiful note at Lilly’s Aunt’s home for a home made brunch.

Napa Valley Wedding from Fleurs de France + OneLove Photography

No one, and I repeat, no one captures a wedding quite like Sara from OneLove. Her photos always tell a sweet, sweet story, and her clients? They’re pretty top-notch too. So combine that awesomeness with stunning floral design by Fleurs de France, and you my dear, have a match made in wedding heaven. See every last bit of this wintery destination wonder right over here.

From the Bride… Michael and I are an incredibly low key couple and wanted to keep our wedding as stress-free and intimate as possible. We thought Napa would be the perfect local for a destination wedding because it offers a little something for everyone – not to mention it’s a great place to travel back to for anniversaries!

Planning a Napa wedding from Texas can have its challenges, but Michael and I really shared in the entire process together from start to finish. We made one trip out to Napa to scout vineyards and immediately fell in love with the grounds at V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena. With its lush stone courtyard and stunning barrel room, we knew that it would provide the ideal backdrop for our big day.

The actual weekend of our wedding was perfect – crisp November weather, gorgeous fall foliage, and all of our dearest friends and family. We hosted a welcome celebration at a private residence in St. Helena on the eve of our wedding. This was a great way to relax with all of our guests and kick-off the weekend festivities. The following evening was truly more amazing than we could have ever imagined. Michael and I had our “big reveal” before the wedding at the Old Rutherford Train Station, and then enjoyed a pre-wedding libation with our best friends and siblings. Our ceremony took place in a romantic candlelit courtyard as the sun began to set, with a reception that followed in the winery’s barrel room.

Gin & Roses Cocktail

In my opinion there really aren’t enough cocktails in the world that call for Lillet Rosé. Today I’m remedying that with a pretty pink drink I like to call a Gin & Roses. Homemade rose simple syrup, Lillet Rosé and a hearty splash of gin, garnished with a twist of lemon and served in a champagne coupe. The flavor is floral, sweet and entirely unexpected! I highly recommend shaking up a round of Gin & Roses for your next ladies night or swanky soirée.

New York City Engagement from Lauren Gabrielle

Lauren Gabrielle is getting our Friday off to a seriously stylish start with this New York City engagement session, and I owe her a big, fat thank you for it. It’s better than a cup of coffee (and that’s saying something), and the perfect jump-start to my day. Each image is a lovely look into just how much this couple adores each other, and I honestly can’t think of anything better than that. See it all here.

From LaurenStacey and Andrew have lots to thank their friends for. They both grew up in different cities of Ohio, went to separate colleges, and ended up working in different states, so the odds of them meeting were not very great. But thanks to Stacey’s college friends who happened to also be Andrew’s best friends from high school, the couple was strategically introduced and sparks flew. At first it was a long-distance relationship with Stacey in NYC and Andrew in Dallas, but thankfully Andrew was able to relocate to New York and now they are happily engaged! We enjoyed taking photos on a beautiful fall day in NYC and visited a few different spots including Central Park, Lincoln Center, and a friends rooftop in Chelsea.

DIY Backyard Wedding in Jupiter from Michelle Kristine

As an Editor at Style Me Pretty, my job is to talk about beautiful weddings.  To tell you all about the gorgeous details, the heartwarming moments and the love-filled memories filling our galleries.  But every once in awhile, I stumble upon a wedding that touches my soul in such a way, that I find myself unable to speak.  This is one of those weddings.  A speech-defying backyard affair that is literally overflowing with pretty.  See every last amazing moment (and there are many) captured by Michelle Kristine right here in the full gallery.

From Michelle KristineI’m so thrilled to share Dave and Simona’s intimate backyard wedding. I cant even try to articulate how exciting it was to watch them join their lives together. I think their reception could possibly go down in my history books as one of the most quaint, intimate, and darling little parties. I won’t lie, the decor and the setting REALLY made it for me, and theirs was just so many shades of right! Rain usually scares people away from having outdoor receptions, but I was glad that Dave and Simona braved the risks involved and pulled of a stellar backyard reception complete with yard games, a photo booth, and some delicious food! To top it off, the parents toasts were so extraordinary. Simona’s mom, only knowing very broken English, gave a tear jerking toast in Latvian, leaving all of us in tears.

There’s not much else I can say about this wedding other than the fact that I was just overflowing with joy for these two the entire day. To watch them singing “Great is Thy Faithfulness” at the top of their lungs, was almost enough to make me bawl my eyes out. I’m convinced that I have the one of the coolest jobs in the world. To capture that excitement and anticipation for an exciting life ahead of them is such a special thing to be apart of.

From the Bride and Groom… Our main goal of our wedding day was to celebrate God’s goodness and faithfulness in our lives and share it with others. We wanted an atmosphere where everybody would feel welcomed as a family member. Since Dave and I both attend the same church, we had no doubt that we wanted to have our church family to take part in the joy of joining our lives together and have them witness how God has brought two people from two different continents together here in Florida.

All the help with wedding details, its preparation, and the outcome was done by our church family, which we are greatly thankful for. We both wanted a simple, yet classy wedding that would reflect the timeless traditions of a sacred occasion. All people who were involved no matter how big or small the task was, showed the love that we share for each other and most of all for Jesus Christ. Now looking back on our big day, we now see that everything was even better than what we had hoped for!

Before the wedding we both agreed that we would not see each other until the ceremony. Even though our wedding was in the afternoon and it seemed a long time to wait till we could actually see each other, it was so worth it! We took pictures separately, exchanged letters to each other and took time to reflect on what we have learned in our relationship and the privilege and joy of joining our lives together. It was definitely one of the most beautiful moments when we finally saw each other!

Even though all weddings are about the new couple we wanted to have Christ in the center of everything we did. We also wanted our guests to feel comfortable and loved. Our cupcake reception right after the ceremony was made with the thought in mind to have great fellowship while we were taking some pictures with our immediate family. Our guests were able to enjoy over 250 cupcakes (8 flavors) made by the ladies from our church and ice cream with different toppings. Many decorations such as jars, driftwood, moss, table runners, silk flowers came from church and others we borrowed from some of our friends’ personal collections. Both Dave and I love simple style, clean lines, uncluttered spaces so we wanted to keep it that way in our wedding as well. Our main two colors were coral and grey which let us use many spring flowers and other materials from nature.

Since Dave is a graphic designer it was no doubt that we wanted to design our own invitations, RSVP cards, ceremony programs and table cards. We wanted to create a clean and refreshing look with thoughtful intentionality to both graphical and physical elements in the wedding. We also wanted consistency in our design elements. Dave made a logo and a set style that was applied to all of our print and video materials. This helped create an engaging and robust experience.

All projects for our wedding were made by us or our friends. We wanted to have a very relaxing atmosphere during our dinner reception where people could walk around, take pictures in our photo booth or play yard games. One of the coolest DIY projects was a dozen wooden flower boxes that were made out of an old fence. Our dinner reception was in our church pastor’s back yard so it was great to help them to clean up their backyard by making these flower boxes. Since the reception was outside we wanted to incorporate as much as possible from what was already found in nature. All our decorations (flower arrangements, boxes, white table, cloths, grey seersucker table runner) were there only to enhance what was already there not to take away. All flowers came from Whole Foods Market and all arrangements (including bouquets for bridesmaids and bride, boutonnieres) were arranged by our friends. We had coral colored roses, pincushions, seeded eucalyptus, lime colored and coral hypernicum, baby’s breath for our flower arrangements.

Bags and boards for the corn hole game were made by Dave’s dad who is an incredible engineer and can make anything work. All photo booth props were hand-made, inspired by different ideas from other parties. All our Welcome signs, dinner menu board, game and photo booth signs were on black chalkboard that was cut out and hand painted by our friends.

In Latvia where I grew up (a country in North-Eastern part of Europe) there is a tradition to decorate a newlywed’s car with flowers and ribbons. My mom and her husband did an amazing job to decorate our car with flowers that were made out of silk ribbon. Our church aisle was decorated with flowers made by my mom as well.

Our wedding favor was a special chocolate from Latvia wrapped in brown paper and tied with white string almost looking like a little parcel that had traveled oversees.

St. Thomas Wedding from Clary Pfeiffer

After my sister came back from a recent trip to St. Thomas gushing with enthusiasm, I made a mental note to add it to my travel list. And now this wedding has come along and sealed that deal. St. Thomas is officially moving up to my #1 must-see destination and it has everything to do with these gorgeous images by Clary Pfeiffer. We’re talking crystal clear water views and peony filled details crafted by Janelle Scott. St. Thomas, I think I love you. See it all right here.

From the Bride…Jon and I were high school sweethearts, together for 10 years before he proposed on top of Old Rag Mountain. Jon insisted on going camping even though it was freezing and even snowed at night! We were supposed to go hiking with a couple friends the next morning but because of some bumps along the way, were two hours late meeting them. They had gone up thinking we left them and we raced up the steep 9 mile hike to try and catch them. Eventually we caught them, exhausted and numb from the cold. When we reached the summit, I saw my dog, Eden, running towards me. Very confused, I looked further and saw my sister, best friend, and other close friends and family. I still didn’t know what was happening and asked them why they would come here and not tell us! It was not until Jon removed the ring tied around Eden’s neck and got down on one knee, that I realized what was happening. It was the most perfect surprise.

We wanted our wedding day to be fun and relaxed, surrounded by our close friends and family, so what better way to do that then to get away to the beautiful island of St. Thomas! Through all our years together, some of our favorite memories are our vacations together, always to a different place. So this would be no different, we would choose a new destination once again. I knew this would be difficult, so having Janelle as our wedding planner was the peace of mind I would need throughout the planning to make it all happen.

I wish I could say I had a specific vision when planning my wedding, in fact I think my vision changed several times throughout the course. I would read wedding blogs all day and every time I saw a beautiful wedding I changed my mind again. I would worry and worry and second guess myself after every decision. One thing I knew was that I wanted my wedding to look like a dream. Of course, a very hard vision to explain to anyone but myself. When we found Clary, I knew that she would make this come true through her gorgeous photographs that always make me feel like I’m floating on a cloud. The Sand Dollar Estate was an amazing venue to make this dream come true, perfectly situated on the most beautiful Magens Bay Beach. We knew right away this was where we wanted our wedding to be. The view would be incredible from the ceremony on the private beach to the reception on the pool deck. A lot of the design was thanks to my amazing sister who had the patience to sift through my many, many ideas and create my invitations, signs, menus, and name cards. My husband’s passion is food, so we were so grateful to have Ched who went above and beyond to create a menu that we loved.

Now, one thing about me is that I wouldn’t take no for an answer when it came to achieving what I wanted (once I figured out what that was) and no matter how difficult it seemed to pull off, it just had to be. We found WoW Events to set up the lighting for us, which no one had ever done before at that venue. I bought the chandelier myself and shipped it down there. I rented the linens from home and lugged the 80 pounds of linens over there with me! Or, my husband did at least. That is one thing about him, is that he always just wants to make me happy. So no matter what hurdles seemed to stand in our way whether it be flight delays or storms before the wedding day, I knew that it would be perfect in the end because I have him to stand by me.

An Elegant Updo in Seconds

If you’ve ever been a bridesmaid, you know you don’t get to just show up looking pretty and then walk with your friends down an aisle. When you say yes to being a bridesmaid, you say yes to helping out with anything the bride may need on her big day. Often, that leaves us with little or no time to get ready. We usually have big plans for blowing our hair out, curling it and doing a final touch up. But in reality, you look down at your watch, realize you have to be photo-ready in under an hour and end up having a teeny tiny heart attack. Always good to have one of these life savers on hand in case you or one of your fellow maids is running behind.

instructions

step-1

Pick up an elegant headband. You can find these at Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Kohl’s, BHLDN and many other retailers. (Brides — you may want to have one up your sleeve as well!)

step-2

Starting with clean, dry, slightly textured hair, slip the headband over your head.

step-3

Working from the centre of your head, out, start tucking your hair up and over the elastic band at the back. No need to be perfect here, it’s the imperfection that gives this updo that romantic feel.

step-4

Pin any loose pieces to secure as needed.

Garden Inspired Photo Shoot from Chelsea Scanlan Photography

This garden shoot is every wedding blogger’s dream. I mean, a mash-up of draping ivy, dusty pink peonies, and dainty gold details all styled up by Bon Wed is enough to tip any pretty-loving heart right over the edge. But that’s only the beginning. You see, Chelsea Scanlan filled up a gallery I could easily obsess over for days on end. And truth be told, my plan is to do just that. Join me right here.

From Lindsay Rondo…With a quaint venue aged over a hundred years old with draped ivy over old brick, a garden inspired wedding was perfect for a space with an abundance of character. Inspired by aged pieces, new love, and blooms from every corner, this intimate garden wedding idea had our romantic hearts from the start. How wonderful it was to team up Bon Wed with Chelsea Scanlan Photography to make this romantic garden love come alive. Love is in bloom!

With such sweet romance, the Austen gown by Illume gowns completes our ultimate feminine look in all French lace. Going in a nontraditional route, the bride wore a wide-brimmed hat adorned with blooms. The groom looked equally stunning in his tie by QP Collections that created the inspiration for our paper elements and stationary by Amy Arthurs.

The main table is covered in dainty pink and white striped linens by La Tavola Linens and linen napkins greet each seat. Antique mint plates set with pink glass create an inviting seat in the garden to celebrate love. Just as the garden pours her flowers in abundance, the table is covered in beautiful baskets of blooms and gold-leafed terracotta pots full of peonies, ranunculus, and hydrangeasthe garden’s best! Guests visit the escort card wall created from the old garden walls and sprinkled with flowers.

For dessert, we created a doughnut table full of delicious doughnuts for the sweetest ones to enjoy! “Doughnut you know I love you” created by Amy Arthurs displayed the fun play on words for a love-filled day. The stationary and paper elements helped to give the finishing touches to the romantic garden wedding and complete our overall feel. What a pleasure it was to have our inspiration wedding photo shoot captured by Chelsea Scanlan Photography! And thank you to our beautiful models, Elle and Ben!

Chicago Mini-Guide from Alexis Buryk

I actually had the pleasure of visiting family friends in Chicago when I was 14 years old. I was much too young to really grasp everything the city had to offer, but I do distinctly remember feeling like it held its own kind of magic. I’ve been meaning to go back to experience it properly ever since, and with Alexis Buryk‘s tips & tricks I know I’ll be well equipped when I do. Plus? There’s a whole gallery filled with lots more if you’re looking for it!

From Alexis.. Chicago is a city of ambles and sprawls, nestled and tall against the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. Ignore what you’ve heard about it being a version of anywhere else. Meeting this Midwest city on its own terms is the only way to experience its real charms: the orange glow of its lights at night, the sips and tastes of its ever-bustling food and drink scene, the form and function of its remarkable and historic architecture, and the pleasure of being surrounded by genuine and friendly people.

While the Loop remains Chicago’s iconic physical center, the city’s true heart lies in its neighborhoods. Pick a spot and take a walk, or hop on an L train and go from downtown skyscrapers to cozy close-knit streets in a few minutes. I’ve lived here for four years, and never tire of the way in which Chicago unfolds without pretension. It’s simply a city that knows itself, and one that you should get to know, too.

EAT + DRINK

Coffee + Sweets:

Chicago has some serious bean culture, so while you’re here check out homegrown roasters Intelligentsia. They have various locations throughout the city, including their original and recently updated spot in Lakeview. You can also find them served at Floriole, a Lincoln Park bakery that has the most incredible selection of flakey and sweet goods, in a beautiful and airy space.

Brunch + Lunch:
Wicker Park’s Division Street corridor has lots of great nosh options, my favorite of which is Milk + Honey. Go for a late morning coffee and pastry, or something more substantial like their huevos rancheros made casserole style, and take home some of their granola. Publican Quality Meats in the West Loop is the place to go for top notch sandwiches and picnic possibilities.

Pizza, Burgers + Hot Dogs:
Check out local Lincoln Park favorite Pequod’s for deep dish delights, away from where most of the tourists dine. If burgers and true Chicago hot dogs (no ketchup, ever!) are more your thing, Lakeview’s DMK Burger Bar with its delightful options (lamburgers with tzatziki sauce? yum!) and Hot Doug’s dogs and duck fat French fries in Avondale are definitely the way to go.

Sips + Supper:
This category is bursting with delicious potential, because Chicagoans love their sips and suppers, especially when the weather is fine and you can sit outside. Tiny Lounge in North Center has great small plates to share and a solid cocktail and wine menu, while Scofflaw in Logan Square offers a charming atmosphere and plenty of spirits. Hopleaf in Andersonville has a staggering amount of beer on tap, including some great imports, while Revolution Brewing Company continues to astound with its original brews rotating constantly, and food that puts other pub grub to shame. If you’re looking for something just a little more fancy, make a reservation or cozy up to the bar at The Girl and the Goat, the incredible restaurant headed by Stephanie Izzard of Top Chef fame, which defies description, other than to say it is completely delectable and worth every penny!

SEE
Before heading out to wander the neighborhoods of Chicago, begin downtown where ornate 19th and 20th century architectural gems and the silvery structures of Millennium Park and Cloudgate (aka the Bean) are main attractions. Take a walk through the gardens and stop by the Art Institute of Chicago if an art-filled afternoon is on your mind. Architectural boat tours on the river are also a favorite of tourists and locals alike, for the education and sheer beauty of cruising along the Chicago river in a canyon of skyscrapers.

Up further north in the Gold Coast, you can meander among the mansions of Chicago’s elite, and make your way along the Lakefront Trail into Lincoln Park, where the city’s Greenmarket is held in warm weather every Wednesday and Saturday. And if you’re not completely exhausted yet, continue up towards Wrigleyville, and take in the amazing structure of the ballpark while ignoring the teeming crowds of boisterous revelers. Take in an improv show at the iO Theater, and finish your day with a nightcap after riding the Brown line L train back south towards a glittering cityscape.

SHOP
There are so many walkable shopping corridors within the city, retail therapy is all too easy! For home items and antiques, check out Swedish neighborhood Andersonville between Foster and Bryn Mawr, where shops like Scout and Roost offer great curated finds while The Brown Elephant resale shop is like a treasure hunt, with the bonus of all your purchases benefiting the Howard Brown Health Center. The Halsted and Armitage corridors of tony Lincoln Park have upscale clothing and body care shops in their quaint brick buildings, while nearby Old Town features shops like the lush A New Leaf for exquisite flowers.

Lovers of bookshops and record stores should meander down Broadway in Lakeview or Milwaukee and North Avenues in Wicker Park. And for a more eclectic afternoon, Lincoln Square on the far north side has shops ranging from kitchen goods (The Chopping Block) to mind-stretching games (Marbles: The Brain Store) to an old-fashioned Apothecary (Merz).

DIY Melbourne Wedding from Oy Photography

This is the kind of wedding that makes me want to move to Australia.  Literally pack up my bags, head to the Land Down Under and then say “I do” amongst its awesomeness.  It’s a cozy + intimate beauty that just screams uber-chic with DIY details crafted by a bride and groom who are soooo in love, it’s palpable. Basically, it’s a whole lot of perfection wrapped up in a gallery of gorgeous images captured by Oy Photography.  Join me there for all of the pretty.

From the Bride… Sam and I wanted a relaxed and intimate party filled with good food and wine, where we could share our love, happiness and laughter with some of the people we love most. It was really important to us that our special day reflected us in its entirety – that it was not just a pre-packaged arrangement that we bought from someone else – and so we took a more hands-on approach in planning the wedding and decided against hiring a professional. All the details surrounding the wedding reflected things that were personal to us.

We did our own invitations, programs and the works. My dad created ceramic necklaces that served as bonbonnieres for all the ladies and my brother made macarons to go in the place of a wedding cake. To pay homage to Sam’s Egyptian heritage, we named each table after a famous Egyptian and hired a belly dancer, who danced through dessert. We also provided handkerchiefs for people to wave at us as we shared our first kiss, and catching them in the act was definitely one of the highlights of the ceremony.

We fell in love with Butleigh Wootton not only because it was elegant, romantic and intimate, but also because it really reflected my love for history (it’s a heritage building) and in some perspectives drew parallels with the European architecture that Sam grew up with in Cairo. The Victorian/Italianate interior detailing was just so beautiful! The venue also provided an amazing backdrop during our ceremony and canapés in the garden.

DIY proved to be a lot of work and the 24 hours leading up to the wedding was a roller coaster ride. I spent the day before the wedding tying up loose ends, including arranging all the floral centrepieces and bridal bouquet, and at 11pm that night I was still sewing the hem of my ceremony dress and finishing up my reception dress. In addition, my brother’s macaron tower collapsed that night, and so we had to make a quick trip to a late-night cafe, where we bought two cakes and placed one on top of the other to create an incredibly messy two-tiered cake. It was really crazy.
The wedding, however, was absolutely gorgeous. The weather was perfect considering it was meant to be a cold and rainy winter day. The day was also full of surprises! Dad and I didn’t know what song we were dancing to for the father-daughter dance….until someone randomly selected a cha cha. At some point during the belly dance performance, a friend also got up to dance along. Everyone were enjoying themselves so much, no one wanted to leave.

People still remark on how composed I was given that a lot of things weren’t going to plan, but, in the end, I’m really glad we decided to take the DIY path. Everything felt natural, and all the little details and “imperfections” gave our wedding a unique character and really reflected who we were. The wedding was a culmination of all our blood, sweat and tears. When I look back to the wedding, I’m not just reminded of the actual day, but the planning process and all the hard work that’s come into preparing a foundation for our marriage. Honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

From the Bride… Ever since I was a little girl, I always imagined having a wedding in Italy. When I suggested Italy as our wedding destination, Ben was immediately on board. We both love to travel and an adventure in Italy seemed like the perfect way to celebrate our marriage. Better yet, it would be the trip of a lifetime that we could share with our immediate families and our very dear friends, totaling 16 guests. We picked June for the weather and chose the 27th, which was towards the end of our week-long stay to allow enough time for the last-minute details.

Our goal was to keep the wedding simple and intimate. We chose a villa located in the small Umbrian town of Benano. The villa, Rocca di Benano, is a beautifully restored 1,000-year-old hamlet. The rich history of the villa appealed to us, but perhaps it was the Etruscan cave converted into a wine cellar that was the favorite of our guests. Our immediate families stayed with us for the entire week, and the villa accommodated us perfectly.

The villa sits on the town’s piazza, across from which is the small church where our ceremony was held. Ben’s childhood best friend, Caleb, was our officiant. With his thoughtful memories and beautiful words he made the ceremony a truly heartwarming and personal experience. We asked Ben’s Step Father, Don, and my Godmother, Mikki to read a poem at separate points during the service. As two very important people in our lives, it was so touching to have them participate.

Since neither of us have traveled to Italy before, nor did we have the resources to scout out the area with a preliminary trip for planning, we relied heavily on the help and guidance from Karen Smith, one of the owners of Rocca di Benano. Karen recommended our caterer, Doriana Ottaviani from Cooking for You. Doriana and her team took care of the table, chair, and linen rental, along with delivery, set up, and clean up. Communicating via email, Doriana came up with a brilliant menu. Out of all the eating we did in Italy, our reception dinner was, by far, the best. Every course was better than the next and each was paired perfectly with an Italian wine. Instead of a wedding cake, Ben and I opted for tiramisu.

We planned on having lavender for our wedding arrangements, however, it was a bit difficult to find any at the local florist. We really lucked out when we visited Palazzone for a wine tour. They had tons of lavender and were happy let us pick some. The fragrant purple flowers were arranged into simple bouquets and boutonnieres by our mothers.

The burlap decorations, including the bunting, were inspired by projects posted on Pinterest. We kept things simple as to not take away from the charm and ambiance that surrounded us. The reception was held in the piazza and our small group of guests, including our fabulous photographer, Daniele, sat around one large table. It had been quite some time since Benano had seen a wedding and there was lots of excitement from the loving residents of Benano. They were all so warm and inviting, welcoming us to celebrate our wedding in the middle of their town.

So, in a small, Italian village surrounded by over a thousand years of history, amidst the excitement and love of the local neighbors, our dearest friends and our loving family; we got married. It was our dream wedding and, despite the difficulty of planning so far away, everything worked out perfectly.

Texas Wedding at Madera Estates from Mustard Seed Photography

Every time I see a Texas wedding like this one from Mustard Seed Photography at Madera Estates I realize I haven’t spent nearly enough time in the Lone Star state. Because this wedding is filled to the gills with details that make my world go round executed in a fashion that makes me realize that Texas Brides know how to plan a wedding. It’s that perfect combination of style and love, and it’s all waiting for you right here.

From Mustard Seed Photography… This is an amazing Texas wedding filled with gorgeous details and an equally beautiful couple! Highlights of this wedding include a villa-inspired venue, muted hues of lavender, blush and green with sparkly accents added here and there. All of the bride’s planning came together to create a truly stunning, yet down-to-earth event. Below are some details from the bride about how this romantic, villa themed wedding came together!

From the Bride… Brian and I almost never met. It was by pure luck that our lives crossed paths one random night in March of 2010. And although he gave me his number with strict instructions to call him, I never called. I couldn’t call because I lost his number! Even I couldn’t believe I did that. I found out later that we were both pretty distraught over the course of events; me, feeling bummed that I might have just let my soul mate slip away, and he, thinking I must’ve never been interested in him. Then miraculously, four days later, we both ended up eating at the same restaurant at the same time. That’s when we met the second time. This time, we left little up to chance; he saved my number into his phone and ended up texting me before I even left the parking lot.

Brian and I envisioned our wedding day to be a whimsical and light-hearted affair with close family and friends. We wanted our guests to feel at ease and comfortable with their surroundings, thus for us, that meant having plenty of outdoor space. We fell in love with Madera Estates’ villa-style design and the gorgeous wooded backdrop that accompanied it.

Seaside Wedding in Westport from Ze Liang Photography

Seaside soirees have my heart. My subconscious draws me to them, and before I know it, hours have passed as I pour over all the prettiness. Take this beach beauty by Ze Liang Photography for instance – I opened this gorgeous wedding quite awhile ago, and here I am, still drooling over all the sweet details and lovely seaside settings hours later. Not that I am complaining of course, because this gallery is one fabulous way to spend a day. See it all here.

From the Bride… Shortly after we were engaged, we knew we wanted to celebrate our nuptials somewhere near the water. We are beach people at heart and knew no other place to get married than Westport, Massachusetts. Westport is a special spot – a place where I spent my summers with family while growing up, and a place we both visit whenever we can get out of the city!

A few adjectives to describe the day would be colorful, preppy and blissful!

Our vision for the wedding was nautical chic while also keeping it casual and intimate. When we found the Acoaxet Club, we knew immediately that this was the right venue for us. What I loved about this venue is that they only host a handful of weddings each year and we were lucky enough to be one of them. The charming seaside scenery really appealed to us. While it’s typical to see navy with the nautical theme, we wanted to switch it up a bit and have a little pop of color. I was drawn immediately to this coral/knot fabric and knew then and there that our primary color for the day would be coral.

There were many DIY projects we took on that kept us busy during the planning process.from the beautiful table runners to the monkey fist knots. One of my favorite details was the lobster trap that we used for both our card box and escort cards. I loved the buoys which were all hand painted by my mother and I. We really wanted to create an original wedding that showcased our personalities. It was important to us that all the small little details showed through on our special day.

Some special touches that were incorporated into the day included my brother who officiated our ceremony which made the atmosphere of the day even more warm and intimate. We felt truly blessed to have the people we love around us while we exchanged vows with each other. Another little touch that really was special to me was the bouquet.not only for the gorgeous flowers but for my late grandmothers handkerchief that was wrapped around the stems and a charm of my father who passed away. Having that charm was a reminder as I walked down the aisle that he was there with me on my special day.

All of our vendors were wonderful to work with. Our biggest priority of the day was music. We wanted all of our friends and family to have fun and dance all night long. We have attended many weddings in the past and we knew even before we were engaged that we a live band was a must. We chose Now & the Forevers and they were incredible. Our dance floor was packed the entire night! They played music from classic oldies to old school rap and everything in between. I love that they are not your typical wedding band — they were hip and fun and original.

The whole day turned out beautifully. My husband and I made sure to take in every minute of the day. There were times where we would both just stop and enjoy the moments. We both agree that it was the best day of our lives and it couldnt have been any better!
