Adelaide Engagement from Rachael Elizabeth Photography

You can feel the love this couple shares with just one peek at the pretty below captured by Rachael Elizabeth Photography, and how can you not love that? It makes you want to smile from ear to ear and hug your loved ones a bit closer, and that’s when I know we have a good engagement session on our hands. See it all here.

From Rachael Elizabeth PhotographyBen & Kristen had some unique ideas for their engagement session – they wanted photos that represented who they were and the things that they loved. And so we incorporated as many of these things as we possibly could to create not only one of the most fun but one of the most beautiful engagement sessions ever. They love their bikes, books, wine, picnics, their TOMS and the beach – and most of all each other.

It was a beautiful day when we all piled into Ben’s parents’ giant yellow van along with Ben & Kristen’s bikes, a picnic and their favourite blanket and wine. We found a field and an old, graffiti’d shed near Willunga, SA that also had a beautiful little vineyard across the road – and then went down to the beach at Moana, SA. Magic ensued. They were even willing to go waist deep into the freezing cold water and it was absolutely beautiful. There was just SO much love (and I was in a little bit of heaven with the beautiful golden sunlight!!).

Their bikes were handmade by Ben and match with opposing colours and they found some beautiful vintage books to bring along as well as their favourite TOMS! It was absolutely perfect and I’m so excited to share it with you!

Fraser Valley Wedding from Kristy Klaassen Photography

It took about two seconds of touring the Fraser River Lodge for this adorable duo to know that it was THE place to say “I do”… and about five seconds of perusing their beautiful wedding gallery for me to whole-heartedly agree.  Because when it comes to tying the knot amongst jaw-droppingly gorgeous mountains and stunning scenery, this locale is seriously mesmerizing.  Add in some pretty purple hues and an entire day of personality-filled details captured by Kristy Klaassen and it’s enough to make you dizzy from the pretty (seriously).  Click here for more.

From the Bride… The Fraser River Lodge was the first and only venue that Jordan and I looked at. When we stepped out onto the wraparound verandah we were in awe of the natural beauty in front of us, and we knew that it was going to be the place where we said our vows. Wendy, the Lodge’s Event Coordinator, was unbelievably organized and so helpful! We wanted our wedding day to be natural, comfortable and inviting for our guests. Despite only meeting a few times in the year leading up to the wedding, Wendy understood our vision perfectly and was there on the day to make sure that it was exactly what we had hoped for.

We wanted as much of our wedding as possible to be handcrafted and meaningful. Over the year we were engaged, I slowly worked to bring life to all of the projects that I had created in my mind. Jordan patiently helped me with a lot of the projects, as did many generous friends and family members. Seeing all of the finished decorations in place at our venue was almost as exciting as the day itself!

We loved that our family was incorporated into many of the details. To collect cards, we used a tiny dresser that my great-grandfather had made for my grandma when she was a little girl. Lace from my mom’s wedding dress was used to tie my bouquet. As a surprise, I had collected wedding photos of our parents and grandparents (who are all examples of what a lasting marriage should be!) and created a photo collage for our reception.

One of our favorite parts of the day was our first look session at the fire hall where Jordan is a firefighter. Many of our married friends had told us to savor every private moment we could find, as the day would pass before we knew it…and they were right! At the end of the day, I was so happy that we had planned to have that short time before the drive to the Lodge. We wanted the moment we first saw each other to be our own (and our photographer’s, although she did a good job of hiding!). It really made for some great memories, and some wonderfully unique photos.

Looking back on our wedding day, we wouldn’t have changed a thing. I know that many brides have their weddings planned from the moment they read their first fairytale, but I am proud that our wedding was truly a combination of details which Jordan and I had both envisioned. The time we spent making decisions and handpicking our vendors was well worth it. Some were close family friends, some were referred to us, and some were the serendipitous result of late-night internet searching (including our fabulous photographer, Kristy Klaassen!), but each and every one of our vendors put so much love and thought into their part of our wedding. We felt so incredibly lucky to have such an amazing and talented group of people helping us put together our perfect day.

Even though the day is over, we’re so happy to have so many wonderful memories from our wedding day – those will truly last a whole lifetime!

Chicago Engagement Session from Sarah Postma Photography

Duos this adorable are always awesome to spend the day with, but when it’s a duo that is not only adorable, but seriously stylish, as well… it makes my heart skip a beat.  Because this, my friends, is a serious lesson in chicness, with vibrant colors and jaw-dropping attire taking center stage.  Click here for so much more from Sarah Postma.  It’s amazing.

From Sarah Postma Photography… These two brought so much personal style to their Chicago engagement session. Their wardrobe choices included colorful Indian dress, bangles, and bindi, as well as a brilliant color coordination of yellow and blue. They were naturals in front of the camera, and I was thrilled to be able to step back and let their emotions lead the way to romantic poses that made for gorgeous images. We began photography downtown along the river near Trump Chicago, and wrapped up their session along the waterfront at North Avenue Beach for sunset and a glorious view of the Chicago skyline.

Swiss Countryside Wedding at Blausee from Claire Morgan Photography

A Swiss countryside wedding just sounds like a dream come true, and after pouring over all the gorgeous images of this Swiss soiree from Claire Morgan, I can tell you it’s even better than a dream. With beautiful scenery, a beautiful bride and some inspiring DIYs – this gallery is as good as they get. See it all here.

From Claire MorganLidia told me she was addicted to SMP during her wedding planning process. She is half Spanish and half Croatian, and Stefan is half Italian, although both are born and raised Swiss. Therefore it was a 4 nationality wedding.

They got married in Blausee (which means Blue Lake), one of the best-known mountain lakes in Switzerland is located in the midst of a small nature park. It has a very special color and crystal-clear water, which has its source in subterranean springs. It is also a trout farm so one can see fresh-water trout swimming freely in the small lake.

Lidia and Stefan fell in love with the location and loved how everything was conveniently located so that everything could take place within one location. The hotel and restuarant are located on the shore of the lake and they had an outdoor ceremony just outside the hotel. We took our time for a lovely portrait session just before the sun disappeared behind the mountain in the forest and the evening was enjoyed with a 4 course meal served by the hotel which I can honestly say was some of the best food I ever tasted.

Dallas Wedding from Caroline Joy Photography

This wedding is awesome; no ifs, ands or buts about it.  It’s drop-dead gorgeous with pretty blue hues, a stunning outdoor ceremony and a ballroom reception that is, in one word, amazing.  I’m talking lush florals from Haute Floral, a gorgeous Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens setting and one beautiful moment after another captured by Caroline Joy Photography.  And if that isn’t enough to have you completely hooked (it sooo is), check out the two cuties saying “I do.”  They are all kinds of adorable.  Click here for so much more.

From the Bride… On our wedding day, we knew we wanted nothing short of feelings of excitement and elegance to have a simply timeless wedding. We were excited to incorporate the Filipino wedding ceremonial traditions that I had grown up with, and our vision of having my parents and wedding sponsors in the traditional formal Filipino dress looked amazing! I am also an avid lover of flowers and gardens (not unheard of for someone getting married in an arboretum) and Kristen with Haute Floral was able to channel my vision for elegant (and plentiful!) flowers with exquisite precision.

We had so many unforgettable moments that I will truly treasure! The bridesmaids and I had a total blast getting ready on the day of the wedding and we shared some wonderful memories spending time together during that preparation time. Jeremy and I were also insanely excited about working with our ceremony musicians, Forte Strings, who came highly recommended to us as one of the top string trios in the area. Having a groom who is very passionate about music made that one of my favorite aspects of the wedding planning process, and having him so involved in the song selections including having our recessional song, “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, mutually one of our favorite songs of all time. I will never forget standing with him after the ceremony as we stood together as man and wife next to the infinity pool overlooking the lake, such a wonderful moment that was captured by our amazingly awesome photographers! I was also happy to surprise him during the reception with a groom’s cake, which was decorated like a Monopoly game board (he had begged his parents for a Monopoly birthday cake ever since he was little) and also customized to have some representation from his favorite teams, the New York Mets and New York Giants.

Westport Casual Elegant Wedding from Lens Cap Productions

This is how I picture every New England wedding to be.  A soft, romantic love-fest with an intimate chapel ceremony, followed by a backyard tented reception chock-full of lovely.  In other words, a perfect day crafted by a talented team of vendors (think Lens Cap ProductionsSperry Tents and Greenlion Design) featuring one of the cutest couples you will ever meet.  See it all right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Though we met in college and shared similar social circles, Christopher and I did not really connect until six years later at an impromptu local alumni get together I helped plan in Boston where we discovered we had a lot in common. After swapping countless pictures and stories of our beloved golden retrievers that night, it was clear we had many shared interests & values and that a relationship was in our future. Our very next date after that was to a Red Sox baseball game a few weeks later where I was treated to cold beer and an extra large “Monster” hotdog at the game. Chris now jokes that watching me scarf down park food on that hot summer day in under a minute, was the moment he fell in love with me!

Five years later, on an unsuspecting sunny St. Patrick’s Day afternoon, outside the very apartment in which I lived for most of our courtship (and as Christopher reminded me “where it all began”) he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

We knew we wanted a short engagement, so we set a date for four months later. Already committed to one another, our family, friends and cherished dogs, we wanted to exchange vows to reflect these important relationships and let them shine for what they are. So much of our relationship was rooted in our shared appreciation for simple joys, we wanted to maintain that space without the pageantry weddings can often hinder. With that in mind we decided we wanted to create the feeling of an ‘at home’ kind of a wedding. I’ve always admired DIY, crafty weddings and those thoughtful and personal gestures to our wedding.

We were married in a quintessential New England chapel. From the moment Christopher and I saw the beautiful red doors of this quaint Westport chapel, we knew this was the place we wanted to declare our commitment to one another. The ceremony was intimate & simple and reflected our relationship
metaphorically, but it also allowed us to create a focus on the vows…

“I take you to be my wife/husband
I promise above all else to live in truth with you
And to communicate fully and fearlessly
I give you my hand and my heart
As a sanctuary of warmth and peace
And pledge my love, devotion, faith and honor
As I join my life to yours”

As an added bonus to the already charming ceremony, we drove away from the ceremony in my mother’s 1976 yellow convertible Volkswagen beetle. It was special to begin our journey together as husband and wife in a fun and familiar family car, with our dogs in tow in the back seat, a private moment alone on the way to celebrate our recent nuptials. I sat up on my knees the entire ride back waving at every passing car, my veil flying in the wind, while Chris honked the old horn. As we pulled down the driveway one of the members of our band played ‘here comes the bride,’ announcing our arrival.

My parents were generous enough to let us hold the reception at their riverfront home in Westport, MA. With such a gorgeous backdrop set we made sure to honor our surroundings by serving locally sourced foods from the nearby farming community, beers from the craft brewery down the street, used a local bakery for the cake & desserts and garden picked flowers and herbs from my parents gardens, even using my Mothers watering can collection to show off some of the blooms. My mother is also an incredibly talented seamstress, having made many outfits for my sister and I as children, including my high school prom dress. And while she didn’t attempt to make a wedding gown, she did make the veil for my vintage headpiece, as well as sewed the table runners and pennant banners for the wedding. We even decided to use some of her sewing pieces as props throughout the wedding.

Wedding photos of our grandparents, parents and siblings were displayed – honoring those uniquely different marriages in our families that we reflect and continue to learn from. Wildflower seed packets were given as favors to guests in hopes that they through the simple yet symbolic gesture of planting flowers, we aim to share our happiness, express how grateful we are for the people who have nourished us individually and also in our relationship as it grew. It was the wedding of our dreams… we felt the day reflected who and what we value/are and we were able to share it with the people we care about most in this world.

Crossed Keys Inn Wedding from Bia Sampaio Photography

When paper lanterns are used to their advantage, they can be stunning, and this bride knew what she was doing with those lanterns. Hanging like happy little clouds over the entire reception, they set the tone for beautiful charm, and the wedding quickly followed suit. After perusing Bia Sampaio Photography‘s images from the day, I can say with confidence, this wedding had beautiful charm popping out of every nook and cranny.

From the beautiful bride… Since the day Satchel popped the question, I had been scouring the internet, magazines, and wedding shows looking for inspiration. Being from New Jersey, I knew that I did not want the “typical” Jersey wedding. I hate ballrooms, carpet, giant drapes, and giant poufy dresses. I wanted to bring a little bit of the southern charm that I love here in North Carolina to New Jersey. I decided I wanted a “country chic” wedding…and it’s just what I got!

After searching for the perfect rustic venue, I discovered I didn’t need to look any further than Crossed Keys Inn in Andover, NJ. It was perfect! From the gorgeous tent, fire pit, and corn field, I knew I was in heaven. The amazing dynamic duo of Jessica and Katherine made the entire process SO easy. They even had the fabulous farm house tables made.

Our color scheme was navy and peach. I wanted the tent to feel like you were walking into a North Carolina venue complete with mason jars and tree stump slice centerpieces. I have been a huge Etsy fan for years, but I would not have been able to have all the personal touches without that amazing community of talented people. The men’s ties, the monogrammed cake topper, cake server and bride and groom forks, bride and groom chair signs, here come the bride sign, bridal gown hanger, bridal chevron monogrammed clutch, vintage card box and my bridal garter set, all came from Etsy! We found little chalk board signs to place in front of each pie, and personalized the navy chevron candy bags with peach labels my mom made. It was all the personal touches that made the day so special.

I think the most amazing little touch was personalized mason jars! Instead of a regular old seating chart I created a little rustic moment in the tent where people found a mason jar with their name and table number written on chalkboard labels. Old painted windows hung in the background courtesy of friends of mine in NC, the old card box and bunting sign, all made the mason jar table really fabulous.

The flowers were one of my favorite things. I asked for peaches, cream and white, but the most unique item I wanted dispersed thorough the wedding was raw cotton. Satchel grew up in Georgia, so I wanted the raw cotton to be like a nod to his southern roots. Cotton was interspersed throughout the centerpieces and Satchel’s boutonniere was even a little bloom of raw cotton.

At my church, St. Peter’s in Essex Fells, NJ, each pew had candelabra with a small arrangement, garland was strung across the back, and the giant floral arrangements up at the alter and at the steps were perfect lovely peach flowers. The best part were our S and L moss letters out front of the church. They later were transported back to Crossed Keys to be placed in front of the DJ booth.

Fall Wreath DIY

For Thanksgiving this year I decided to take my floral game up a notch. Instead of showing up with a bouquet as a hostess gift, I’ll be bringing a collection of fall wreaths to show my appreciation. They’re surprisingly simple to make, and really give you the flexibility to be creative and use ingredients you really love. For more floral inspiration, head on over to my shop, Wild Folk Studio.

Materials

Metal crimped ring(s) or a wire wreath frame
Wire
Clippers
Ribbon
Bay leaf
Persimmons
Heather
Eucalyptus nuts
Pepperberry
Globe amaranth

directions

step-1Start out by gathering a small bundle of ingredients, essentially creating a mini bouquet. I used the bay leaf as the base of each bundle so the wreath has a consistent thickness all the way around. Cut the stems relatively short.

step-2 Wire the mini bouquet to the wire frame. The heavier the bundle, the more you want to wrap the wire around to make sure it is secure enough.

step-3Continue this process until you have gone all the way around the wire frame. Once you have reached the end make sure your last bundle is nicely tucked under the first bundle, so that all the wire is hidden.
step-4The Persimmons are heavy compared the the greenery and florals, so I wanted to make sure they would stay in place. I added them to the wreath at the very end. I used a thick wire to thread the fruit and then attached them securely. Thread at the base where the persimmon would attached to the the branch.

As an aside, for this project I used crimped metal rings that I found at the floral supply store, but you can use the traditional wire wreath frames, too.

Note: On my second wreath, I did the same exact processes, but this time I only worked half way around the crimped ring. I finished it off with various lengths of ribbon on either side. I love the way the exposed crimped ring looks. You could even spray paint the exposed metal a color of your choice. Take a peek here!

Tyro, Virginia Wedding from Katie Stoops

I can spot a Southern wedding a mile away. They’ve got charm that can’t be beat, and this Virginia stunner has it ozzing out of every nook and cranny. Think big open skies and a home-woven feel, all perfectly orchestrated by Ashley Baber Weddings. The one and only Katie Stoops snapped every color-happy moment and truth be told? We’re loving EVERY last bit.

From Katie Stoops… Erin and Judson knew they wanted a beautiful natural setting as a background for their June wedding. The grooms mother suggested the grounds of Pharsalia, close to where family owns land and about an hour from where Judson grew up. Erin wanted to make sure their guests could enjoy all the different areas of the property on the day of the wedding.

The ceremony was set on the front lawn, overlooking fields of apple orchards. Betsy Burton beautifully appointed the vintage mantle from Stonegate Event Rentals with wild flower arrangements at the altar. They recessed to ‘My Sweet Lord’ performed by Robbie Wells, my favorite recessional song so far!

The cocktail hour was held in the side lawn, under the large Magnolia and music by Bennie Dodd. Guests were then invited to move to the tented area adjacent to herb gardens for a stationed dinner from Avenue Foods. Small collections of floral arrangements were featured on the handmade farm tables that are available for Pharsalia brides to rent.

Attraction provided the evening entertainment, as well as Bennie Dodd sitting in for a fun Father/Daughter dance song. The polish tradition ‘Dollar Dance’ was also a hit for guests, looking for a swing with the bride!Erin and her mom made strawberry jam in the Spring as favors for guests as they left.

Hamptons Engagement Shoot from Alicia Swedenborg

Plain and simple, this Hamptons engagement shoot from Alicia Swedenborg is just gorgeous. Maybe it’s the light, maybe it’s the gorgeous photography, maybe it’s the stunning couple, maybe it’s all of the above – whatever it may be, it makes this gallery of images as pretty as they come. See it all here.

From the couple…As Michael, a Consultant at the management consultancy Accenture, was thumbing through stacks of resumes looking for Analysts to round out a newly formed project team, he could never have imagined that years later he would become engaged to the girl whose resume sat atop the pile. When he greeted Whitney for the first day of her new assignment, a relationship began that would evolve from professional to personal and from colleagues to couple.

Whitney and Michael would spend several months working across clients, industries, and geographies, learning from one another while collaborating on assignments. It would take two years of being close associates before a casual Friday evening on Manhattan’s Upper East Side would turn into an unforgettable night that would shape the rest of their lives. Surprising none of their mutual friends, Whitney and Michael’s relationship began over dinner, and they have never looked back.

I grew up spending every summer with my family in the Hamptons hamlet of Quogue, and lots of time in the neighboring village of Westhampton. I started bringing Mike out the first summer we started dating to spend time at the beach and with the friends I grew up with. The following summer we got our own little place and continued to do so the following 5 years. It has become a special weekend getaway for us from the NYC craziness and a place we love to bring our friends. We considered getting married out there but when we landed on a venue in Manhattan, we knew we had to take our engagement pictures there. We took pictures in the village, at our favorite bar (John Scott’s Surf Shack!), and where we stayed on Dune Road (the Beehive Bungalows).

DIY Vintage Wedding at The Mathis House from The Reason

I love when people in the industry tie the knot. Their weddings never fail to wow, and that’s just what happened when this beauty (who also happens to be the talent behind West House Photography) said I do to her handsome beau. It’s a DIY dream wedding captured beautifully by The Reason, and you can see every fabulous moment right here.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/56211340 600 338]

From the Bride… Being a wedding photographer myself (West House Photography), I knew from the moment Ben proposed that I wanted a long engagement (a year and three months is what happened and it was perfect) to enjoy every second of our engagement and to take on all the DIY projects I would be doing. I knew my priority was going to be photography that would tell a story and our wedding would be very detail oriented to represent us. I made everything from our wooden people cake topper (that was made to look just like us on our wedding day, down to the camera in my hand and the soccer ball at his feet), the guys boutonnieres, photo booth props, numerous signage, tags for the candy buffet, each little jar of apple butter as a favor, smores kit favors, the hanger my dress hung on, my hair piece, monogrammed wine glasses for my bridesmaids, the mr. & mrs chair signs, hand cut/painted directional signs for the different elements of the wedding including all the states people traveled from and how far… and so much more. Family, friends and I all worked on: The doorknob table numbers, each handwritten key place card tied with keys, four long wooden tables were hand built by my father in law for the reception, the huge chandelier that was repainted and had crystals hung from it at our ceremony along with the other chandeliers hung at our reception, hunting down tree trunks for the ceremony aisle, a real tree slice for the cake stand, the hand painted/custom silhouette corn hole boards, incorporating tons of vintage pieces and furniture in the decor for an inside – outside feel. We were hands on with SO MUCH and I loved every second of it. So much love from everyone we knew went into our wedding. So many contributed their time and talents to make this happen.

We saved money on two big things without sacrificing quality: Flowers and food. We were fortunate enough to be able to order all the specific flowers I wanted to incorporate in our wedding, from a local wholesaler and then have my mother in law do all the bouquets (which turned out more gorgeous than I could have hoped). Our centerpieces were old books with the covers torn off and tied together and a mix of various mason jars and vintage bottles filled with flowers. We also did heirloom teacups and pieces from Ben’s family filled with succulents, moss and flowers. My in laws and their friends had been in the catering business and are amazing cooks to boot so we had our food all homemade with love by our family and friends. Our guests could not believe everything was homemade and raved about how delicious it was. My mother in law had all of these amazing vintage silver chaffing dishes and serving platters. It was perfect. We knew we wanted a rustic chic outdoors wedding under the stars with elements that had an eclectic feel.

Our ceremony was under a huge tree surrounded by the people we love most. It couldn’t have been a more gorgeous day weather wise and the light was stunning and made my inner photographer heart (and bride self) so happy! I wanted our guests to have a blast and always have something to do… whether it was eating, dancing, playing corn hole or our photo booth set up in a big gazebo. I wanted them to leave our wedding and say they not only had the time of their life but also know that this was “so Ben and Krystal”.

Working in the wedding industry myself… finding amazing vendors who would bring our day together wasn’t hard. Most of our vendors were people I work with for weddings I shoot and I knew exactly who I wanted to be a part of our wedding day because of their talent and amazing personalities. I don’t have enough words to describe how amazing all of our vendors/friends were for our wedding day. They helped make my vision come to life as I surrendered being a wedding photographer for the day and was just a bride marrying the love of my life. I am forever grateful to them and all of our friends and family. We feel so blessed and it truly was the best day of our lives and the wedding of our dreams!

Cayucos Creek Barn Wedding By David Pascolla Photography

California brides have it SO good. With vendors like Le Festin EventsLori Boe and David Pascolla at their fingertips, it’s no wonder we have such a soft spot for these West Coast affairs. And while I could go on forever about the taupe colored bridesmaids, the antique details or the homeyness woven into this cozy barn affair,  let me lead you straight to the full gallery, for all that plus soooo much more.

From the Bride.. We didn’t have a theme for our wedding; our main requirement was that it felt like us. The moment we saw Cayucos Creek Barn, we knew it was our venue. We felt at home, Cate grew up on property that looked very similar, it was near where we fell in love, and it fit our budget! From that moment we made most of our decisions based on our venue. It is a rustic barn, with lots of character so we wanted a relaxed but classic feel that didn’t overwhelm the natural beauty of the location. We wanted it to feel like we had everyone to a dinner party at our house, just with nicer flowers and more dancing.

I do not think we could have asked for a more beautiful ceremony. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and we even had butterflies flying around us as we said our vows. We wrote our own ceremony and vows and had a family friend marry us, making the entire experience very personal and meaningful. The second best part was our dance party, starting with our improvised first dance where we just decided to be ourselves and have fun. The rest of the night was full of laughter and good dance moves to some amazing beats by our talented DJ.

We put a lot of thought into a few small details, hoping they would fit nicely into our venue but also show our personalities. Scott comes from a long line of junk lovers, so we used his moms talent at finding unique antique pieces to incorporate into our day. All of our floral arrangements were in antique silver, our officiant stood behind an antique lector, we had our seating arrangements in old frames, a set of S &C vintage letters and we made our guest book using an old book cover we found at a flea market. Our one main DIY project was burlap flags that said Yay! And we brought in old quilts from our families for people when they got cold. My dad planted flowers for our ceremony decorations, and a group of men built the stage we got married on the day before our wedding. Overall it was a major group effort, everyone contributed and our day was better off for it.

Although we started our journey with some challenges, we found some really great folks that fit so perfectly into our vision and helped to keep our angst at ease. Although the food was important to us, we were more focused on the dance party. We found a great DJ who filled the night with classic spun records mixed with todays hits and everything in between. It was a real party. Our flowers were a sight to be seen. Every table was beautifully placed with our vision along with gorgeous wreaths that graced the large barn doors. Our day of coordinator set everything up and handled all issues. I can honestly not imagine the day without her there. And finally, our photographer captured it all beautifully. David was a very calming presence, and he caught all of the personality of the day in his pictures.

Turks and Caicos Wedding Weekend from Lindsay Madden Photography

Any day we get to feature Lindsay Madden‘s gorgeous work on SMP is a good day. But a day where we get to feature an entire weekend of gorgeously photographed festivities in Turk and Caicos? Well, there isn’t an adjective in the entire dictionary that can describe that. But it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy every last second of their love shoot, welcome dinner and wedding below – and of course there is even more waiting for you right here. Today is a good day indeed.

From Lindsay Madden Photography….Chris & Laura opted for a tropical love shoot before their wedding day to document their time spent on Turks and Caicos. These two were so happy, laid back & in love. I absolutely loved spending the afternoon capturing their beautiful love on the soft, powdery sand and in the turquoise waters of Grace Bay.

From Lindsay Madden Photography… As the blue sky quickly gave way to a peach sunset, Laura, Chris & their guests settled in on the West Deck of the Seven Stars Resort for Chris and Laura’s welcome dinner. Lanterns hung from one palm tree to the next and the guests had a breathtaking view of the sunset over Grace Bay. This was Chris & Laura’s wedding weekend kick off! After a delicious dinner everyone made their way to the beach for a bonfire complete with smores & a major dance party thanks to the islands junkanoo band, We Funk.

From Lindsay Madden Photography…Turks and Caicos is a really special place to have a destination wedding. Laura & Chris are native New Yorkers and share my love & affection for the Caribbean. So when they asked me to fly down to paradise for their wedding, I, of course, said YES! They opted to marry at the Seven Stars Resort which resides right on Grace Bay. Their ceremony took place on the warm sand about an hour prior to the sun setting and their cocktail hour/reception was held in the Apollo Suite of the hotel. The suite itself was a penthouse overlooking the ocean and this offered Chris and Laura’s guests amazing views of the sunset during cocktail hour and front row seats to their surprise fireworks display at the end of the night. Flowers by Environmental Arts decorated the suite with beautiful island flowers & candles. The atmosphere felt warm & inviting which was perfect for their intimate affair. Chris & Laura smiled and laughed throughout the entire day and I was lucky enough to capture their effortlessly beautiful destination wedding.

Michigan Lake Wedding from Harwell Photography

This is so much more than a beautiful lakeside wedding or an affair radiating happy, happy  color. It’s woven into the very fiber of this wedding and when matched with the creative stylings of A Day in May, Event Planning & Design, the brightest blooms by  Field of Flowers Farm and images by  Harwell Photography, the true beauty of this day is undeniable. Rustic

Anna and Albert were married at the bride’s parents’ resort on picturesque Platte Lake in Honor, Michigan. The rustic aesthetics of the cabins provided a jumping off point for the design combining all things Summer. The cheerful color palate featuring coral, yellow and emerald was accented by the shimmering turquoise waters and warm wood tones in the backdrop. The couple pledged their “I do’s” over the water surrounded by family and friends. Following the Ceremony, guests then made their way back onto land for a lively celebration. A small distance away, the tent was set for Dinner. As each person found their seat via the fruit stand display, they were welcomed by a bowl full of ripe, sweet cherries at their place setting. Cascading centerpieces featuring fresh fruit and seasonal blooms embellished the forest surroundings, while the lights draped overhead provided a warm, romantic glow.

After dinner, the tunes of the DJ filled the air. Some guests made their way through the motion booth- complete with ever so fitting resort themed props. Others danced the night away overtop the water, the waves crashing ashore. Fun desserts like cherry turnovers, bite sized Morsels and s’mores were a sweet ending to a beautiful Northern Michigan Summer wedding day.

While I’m sure we all enjoyed Cassandra‘s brilliant advice on both life and business alike, I’m fairly confident that the nosey nancies amongst us have been waiting to peek behind the scenes of her home. And, honestly? I don’t blame you one bit. Because the girl has style. Serious style. Captured by the brilliant Katie Parra, her entire Seattle bachelorette pad can be found right here in the overloaded gallery.

Deep River Wedding from Carla Ten Eyck Photography

I’m here to let you know Carla Ten Eyck Photography has a handful of super talented photographers. I’m talking, capture the emotions, bottle up the details, freeze the love, photographers. And Julie Morowski is one of them. As you can plainly see by her take on this ridiculously beautiful wedding, she gets lucky with the couples who are drawn to her… but considering her style is pretty much the epitome of perfect, I’m not sure how much of that is really luck.

From the photographer… Natalie and Scott are just darling, and so was their Lace Factory wedding. I had so much fun with these two lovebirds, and of course my sidekicks Erik and Ryan Lambchop. There was lace, and trains, and smiles, and love, and family, and friends. And it was just perfect.

From the Bride… I wasn’t one of those kids that grew up dreaming about their perfect wedding day (do they even exist, or is it just me?). In fact, up until January of this year, I always thought we would elope. When we thought of all the people that couldn’t be with us on one of the most important days of our lives, we began to reconsider some things, and having a celebration back home no longer sounded like a bad idea. By the time we decided on a date, we had just under 5 months to make this happen, and we are so grateful to have had the help from our fabulous wedding planners at Soirée Event Planning.  We envisioned a wedding that was cozy and not too overdone. We wanted our guests to walk into the reception venue, and feel like they were attending a big family dinner, rather than a luxurious wedding. We decided on a very special venue at the Terrace in the Park, because of its beautiful outdoor setting, that was perfect for our ceremony and cocktail hour, and its cozy indoor reception room that sat 116 of our guests very comfortably. We wanted the room to be simple, and inspired by spring. The room was filled with natural light, as it is entirely made of glass, and it gave the feeling as if we were all outdoors, dancing under the stars. After the speeches, the evening began with the chicken dance, due to a bet that was lost between a friend and I, in a very heated fantasy baseball match. A man in a chicken suit started the night off with everybody clucking and laughing away on the dance floor. It sure set the tone for the rest of the evening, as the dance floor was packed all night long. I really have to give all of the credit to the incredible Danny Kramer band!

One of my favorite things on the day was my Jenny Packham wedding dress. A friend of mine, Kelli, had sent me a picture of one of her dresses, and I completely fell in love with the style that this British fashion designer had to offer. I had been scouring Winnipeg for weeks, and I was running out of time. Of course nothing was catching my eye like the dresses I was viewing online. I didn’t give it a second thought though, since the closest store that sold the dress was in Minneapolis. I wanted something elegant that would compliment my Grandmother’s pearls, and nothing too poofy, or tight, so as I could dance the night away! My husband plays hockey overseas, and I had come home early in January this year to get to planning our special day. Days off are few and far between, but I got word of the possibility that the team would have 5 days off in the coming week, which is practically unheard of!  I woke up one morning to a text from my husband that had asked if I wanted to meet him, some of his teammates, and wives somewhere in Europe, and as fate would have it, everyone chose London!  There is no better place to find my dress, than from the Jenny Packham store itself! And alas, that I did!

Hands down, my favorite part of our wedding day was our ceremony. I still get goosebumps every time I think about it!  Dustin and I got married under beautiful hanging votive holders filled with flowers that swayed so elegantly in the gentle winds. It was the most beautiful day in May. We wanted a ceremony that was short and sweet, but filled with as many personal touches as possible. We really wanted to share our love for each other with our closest friends and family, and at one point I turned to look at everyone, and didn’t see a dry eye in the house. It felt like everyone at that moment was giving us a great big hug. Dustin and I shared our own personal wedding vows, and showcased our time capsule box, to which we included all things wedding (even the dress I wore on our first date) to open on our 10 year anniversary. We walked down the aisle to some of our favorite songs, and signed the marriage certificate to Blue Rodeo’s, Lost Together. Every moment was filled with so much meaning. The most memorable part of the ceremony came right at the end, when we honored 12 of our closest family members with a rose and a hug.
