Vibrant marigold orange, yellow, pink, and sage green formed the bold, sun-drenched palette of Lizzy & Cody’s Steamboat Springs wedding weekend, drawing direct inspiration from the couple’s travels through Portugal.

Lizzy and Cody’s wedding at Flying Diamond Ranch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, was a joyful, deeply personal celebration that wove together their love of travel, the outdoors, and each other into a weekend their guests will not soon forget. The couple, who both call Colorado home and share a ski condo in Steamboat, chose the ranch not only for its sweeping mountain backdrop, but because the town itself holds a special place in their relationship and everyday life. The aspen trees scattered throughout the property carried particular meaning for the two of them, and portraits among the golden grove with their closest friends and family were one of the most anticipated moments of the day, knowing many guests would be seeing that landscape for the very first time. The wedding’s design was rooted in a recent trip to Portugal, the couple took just days after getting engaged, and that influence was felt in every deliberate detail throughout the day. Vibrant, sun-soaked florals by The Glacier Lily anchored the reception tent in bold marigold, orange, and hot pink, while cocktail hour was kept to a softer palette of whites and yellows among the aspens. As the evening gave way to night, the celebration transformed entirely into the couple’s signature late-night party. Wild West Disco Neon Rodeo arrived in full force at 10 PM, complete with a custom wall of neon signs, cowboy hats, disco wigs, and heart-shaped sunglasses, turning the dance floor into something that felt completely, joyfully their own. Lizzy and Cody made their sparkly, disco-inspired outfit change and re-entered the dance floor through a train of their closest people in full disco regalia, a fitting afterparty that was entirely, unapologetically them.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]
From the bride, “I saw Cody at a table across from me during après in Breckenridge, Colorado, and I went over and told him I liked his sunglasses, quite awkwardly, and then made up that we were having a party. We ended up throwing the biggest party we’d ever had at our ski house because I’d told some random guy we were having a party. And then he became the love of my life, and we’ve been together ever since. On our first real date, we played hooky from work on a powder day and skied A-Basin together. He proposed while we were hiking Lake Haiyaha in Rocky Mountain National Park, and a few days later, we were in Portugal. That trip became the heart of everything we planned for our wedding.”

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Lizzy chose a basque-waisted silk gown by Sen Studio, a modern ballgown silhouette with spaghetti straps and a gorgeous full train that moved beautifully across the landscape of the ranch. Her bouquet was composed of king protea flowers, a direct and meaningful nod to the Portuguese botanical aesthetic that threaded through the entire day. As her something old, Lizzy wore her sister’s cathedral-length veil, a tender detail that carried its own quiet significance among the day’s many personal touches.[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]
Each bridesmaid wore a distinct dress from designer Bernadette Antwerp, selected individually in mismatched pastel and floral patterns that felt cohesive without being uniform. The effect was relaxed, joyful, and beautifully in keeping with the wedding’s vibrant, travel-inspired aesthetic, while rooted in Lizzy’s Southern upbringing in South Carolina.

The groomsmen each donned a black and white classic tuxedo, while Cody opted for a black and navy custom tux from Indochino, paired with black cowboy boots from Tecovas, a wedding gift from the bride.

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]Lizzy and Cody are avid home cooks who think nothing of spending an evening crafting extravagant, complex dishes and cocktails together, and that same spirit was woven directly into their wedding menu. Harwig’s Catering developed a passed appetizer and dinner spread rooted in Portuguese culinary tradition, a natural continuation of the travel narrative that defined the entire weekend. The craft cocktail program was equally considered, featuring a cucumber margarita, a golden beet gin, and a chai hibiscus mezcal, each as vibrant in color as the florals surrounding them. Late-night tacos rounded out the evening for guests who danced well past dinner.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]
The Glacier Lily brought the couple’s Portugal-inspired palette to life with intentional restraint during cocktail hour and full, abundant color through the reception tent. Whites and yellows kept the aspen grove ceremony and cocktail hour feeling airy and organic, allowing the landscape to remain the star. The couple brought in multiple vintage couch seating areas for guests to lounge in as a fun twist. As guests moved under the tent for dinner and dancing, the design shifted into something bolder, with vibrant marigold, orange, and pink blooms filling the space in a way that felt both sophisticated and deeply celebratory.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]In one of the most personal details of the entire day, Cody baked the wedding cake himself. The centerpiece was his beloved Milk Bar birthday cake, a recipe he had first made for Lizzy early in their relationship that had held meaning for both of them ever since. Alongside it, he baked a chocolate cherry groom’s cake honoring his own family’s baking tradition, combined with a caramel cake representing Lizzy’s Southern family tradition, known in her family as Caroline’s cake. Together, the two cakes became a small, edible portrait of both families and the life the couple had already built together.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]The weekend opened with a colorful welcome party and rehearsal dinner at Aurum, a riverfront restaurant in downtown Steamboat Springs. Keeping true to the couple’s travel-forward spirit, the evening was themed around La Dolce Vita, with a Mediterranean and Italian-inspired spread that felt like a warm prelude to the Portuguese day that followed. Tomato vines and fresh vegetables harvested directly from Lizzy and Cody’s own garden served as the evening’s tablescape, a detail that was both whimsical and deeply personal. A tomato martini was the signature drink of the night, and pasta escort cards completed the scene.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]
Aspen trees have held particular meaning throughout Lizzy and Cody’s relationship, rooted in years of skiing, hiking, and spending Colorado seasons together. Choosing Flying Diamond Ranch’s grove of aspen trees as the setting for the ceremony and portraits was a deliberate and sentimental decision that honored what the Colorado landscape has meant to them as a couple. For the many guests experiencing that landscape for the first time, the arrival and the sight of the grove produced some of the most candid, unguarded moments of the entire day.

[field title=”Special Detail #3″]When the clock struck 10 PM, the celebration transformed. A ‘Wild West Disco Neon Rodeo’ took over the dance floor, complete with a surprise custom wall of neon signs glowing alongside cowboy hats, disco wigs, afros, and heart-shaped sunglasses for anyone willing to fully commit to the moment. Lizzy and Cody emerged in their wild outfit change in full disco-themed sequinned regalia, closing out the night in a way that was entirely, unapologetically them.[/field]
