Chandler and I met during his 3L year of Law School. I was teaching at the time we were introduced, and we immediately connected because Chandler had taken a gap year before law school to teach as well. As graduation approached, Chandler was offered a job in South Dakota—of all places—and we knew we wanted to take on the adventure together. Shortly before we left, he told me we were heading to a friend’s birthday, and I didn’t suspect a thing…at first. I started to catch on when I saw that all my friends’ locations were showing up in the same spot…. He still managed to surprise me by proposing in a private moment overlooking Birmingham before we were joined by all our friends and family to celebrate.

When it came to my wedding gown, I actually went wedding dress shopping in South Dakota—and as an Alabama girl, I had no idea whereeven to start! Luckily, I found a little boutique and fell in love with a strapless A-line gown from Colby John. It had a layered, pleated bodice and a sweetheart neckline that felt both modern and timeless. After trying it on a few times, I knew I wanted something more for the dress. I ended up adding a Monique Lace Bolero with a Martina Liana VV-neckl which made the dress feel perfect to me.

Picking bridesmaid dresses from a thousand miles away wasn’t easy, but I fell in love with a blue square-neck dress with shoulder ties. They had a summery feel that made them perfect for mid-June.

When it came to choosing our food and drink options, Pursell Farms made it incredibly easy—they truly know how to curate the perfect plate. We went for a tasting with our amazing planner, Becky’s Brides, and I already knew I didn’t want a full formal sit-down dinner. In my mind, that would take away from valuable party time!!… But I also didn’t want a buffet. We landed on passed canapés paired with serving stations, which ended up being the perfect balance. And because food is absolutely my love language, we made sure there were plenty of options. Our passed canapés included vegetable spring rolls, pimento cheese with bacon jam on toasted baguette, and a fresh tomato bruschetta. For the stations, we chose dishes that fit the Southern vibe we were aiming to achieve. We had a shrimp-and-grits station with Conecuh sausage and a crisp iceberg salad. There was a carving station with beef tenderloin, rosemary potatoes, and roasted carrots finished with pomegranate molasses and pistachios. We also offered chicken with Alabama white sauce, paired with macaroni and cheese and haricots verts. For drinks, we knew we wanted to feature our two dogs. We served a classic margarita named after Kota and an old-fashioned named after Bear, which was such a sweet personal touch. Now for my favorite part… instead of a fourth station, we opted for multiple rounds of late-night passes. Guests were surprised with chocolate-chip cookie ice cream sandwiches, espresso martinis, churros with customizable toppings, and—last but definitely not least—a honey-butter chicken biscuit. These were all crowd favorites!

My two biggest wishes for our wedding, besides marrying my wonderful groom, were incredible florals and incredible food. Wildly Rooted Florals absolutely exceeded every expectation. I still get comments about how there wasn’t a single inch untouched by their arrangements. From the hanging tulip wall to the flower-lined aisle, to the intricately filled arbor, and even the blooms spilling over from the piano, every space was thoughtfully designed and bursting with bright pops of color. It was truly a floral dream. In every other aspect of the decor, Becky’s Brides curated each space beautifully. From placing the cake as a stunning focal point in the center of the room to the gorgeous wrap on the dance floor, every detail was intentionally crafted to keep the atmosphere fun, inviting, and full of personality.

I absolutely fell in love with the idea of a fondant bow front and center on the cake. But I knew I wanted something more than just a simple bow. Barb’s Cake took my vision and ran with it, creating stunning floral accents that framed the bow beautifully. It turned out so elegant.

From the very beginning, our biggest desire was for our ceremony to be glorifying to God. As we planned, one of our first decisions was to ask Chandler’s father to officiate. It felt meaningful to invite someone who knew us so well, and he guided the service with such grace, keeping Christ at the center. I also felt strongly about incorporating worship into the moment I walked down the aisle. I wanted that entrance to reflect gratitude not just for the day itself but for the faithfulness that brought us there. As the doors opened, our pianist and violinist began playing “Gratitude” by Brandon Lake, and I stepped out of the doors. The most special moment was the first time seeing each other, as we decided not to do a first look.

I really wanted to come up with a wedding favor that felt unique and meaningful, something that truly honored the gift of marriage. Every idea I considered felt a little too ordinary, and I kept coming back to the desire to highlight the love stories that had shaped ours. That’s when I put a few ideas I had seen together to come up with the idea of collecting wedding pictures from all our friends and family to showcase each married couple attending our wedding, with a sign that read “the love that came before us.” It felt like the perfect way to honor those who had already walked in the covenant of marriage. When I shared the idea with Becky’s Brides, they took it to a completely new level. They created a stunning, curated wall filled with beautifully arranged frames of each couple, all anchored by a sign at the top reading “celebrating the love that came before us.” Pops of flowers at the base added the dreamiest finishing touch. It was even more special than I ever imagined.

Our photographer, Gabbie Messer, was absolutely outstanding. Just after the ceremony, storm clouds rolled in, but she handled it with grace and poise, ensuring every important moment was captured without letting us get drenched. From the very first moment, she made us feel completely at ease, and I feel as if every photo reflects the joy, love, and excitement of our day. Her work is something we will treasure forever.

Our band, Color The Night, was phenomenal. They truly lived up to their reputation as the life of the party, and I loved every song they played. They kept the night fun and energetic, and I was impressed the whole way through. Dancing on stage ended up being one of my favorite moments of the night!

A Bright, Playful Wedding with a Statement Ballgown and a Light-Filled Draped Reception

Lea and Jack’s celebration wasn’t just a wedding, but was a day designed to embrace bright, playful energy. Statement moments defined the celebration: Lea’s incredible ballgown, the softly draped, light-filled dinner space illuminated by string lights tucked into the fabric, and a custom wedding cake iced with bright blooms perfectly on theme.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]In 2020, both Lea and Jack’s Jewish nonprofit organizations in college were placed on the national student board. When the pandemic hit, their work shifted online. They quickly realized during countless virtual meetings that they shared many common interests. After months of daily FaceTimes, and as vaccines began rolling out, Jack took a chance and flew to California to meet Lea in person for the first time. It was an instant match. One thing they had always shared was their love of France, having both lived there during their undergrad. For Lea’s birthday, Jack planned a spontaneous trip to Paris. His parents had visited a few weeks earlier and helped set the stage by creating a reason to stop by a particular hotel – his mom had “left her sweater.” With careful coordination and some discreet planning with the hotel staff, Jack guided Lea to the hotel. The staff led them to a private library while they “retrieved the jacket,” and there, Jack proposed.[/field]

Baby Blue Hydrangeas and Lighthouse Views at a Dreamy Coastal Celebration

The vibe we envisioned was coastal elegance. Hydrangeas, rattan textures, and a personalized crest were woven throughout the entire celebration. I’ve always loved that classic Northeast coastal aesthetic with soft blues, crisp whites, and hydrangeas everywhere, so the second we got engaged, I knew this was going to be a baby-blue wedding. Having the Jupiter Lighthouse as the backdrop made it all feel even more surreal. Lighthouses are one of my top five happiness-list items, so getting married with one as the backdrop was truly a dream come true.

It was a Saturday in Manhattan when Jeffrey made plans for us to meet one of our mutual best friends at a speakeasy in SoHo for a double date with a new girl he’d been seeing. Turns out, that was all a lie just to get me to this beautiful rooftop with the Manhattan skyline as our backdrop, which was intentionally decided on as the World Trade Center was the focal point. We live in downtown Manhattan and use the World Trade Center as our ‘north star’ whenever out & about, looking which way is home, so it was only right to have that behind us for this special moment. The surprises didn’t stop there, though. Jeffrey then had all our friends & family (yes, even those from out of town) come out to Long Island for a surprise party at my sister’s house. It was truly so special to have all of our people with us celebrating the start of our forever together just hours after saying ‘I do’!

After seeing The Pelican Club, I knew I wanted my wedding dress to feel clean, simple, and timeless. I tried on so many gowns at Bridal Reflections in New York, but the very last one of the day, an Enzoani design, was the one that matched my vision perfectly. It originally didn’t include the sheer modesty panel in the front, but I added it since we were getting married in a church, and I’m so glad I did. To complete the look, I kept my jewelry elegant and understated. Jeffrey gifted me a diamond tennis bracelet as a wedding present, and my parents had given me beautiful diamond earrings for my birthday just ten days before. My something borrowed was a stunning tennis necklace from my aunt Babs, which I’ll forever be grateful for. I wore classic blue Manolo Blahniks as my something blue, and they matched my bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly!

My biggest priority for the bridesmaid dresses was making sure every girl felt pretty and comfortable. We found their dresses at Bella Bridesmaids in Manhattan, and they were absolutely incredible to work with. Each bridesmaid scheduled her own appointment and tried on different styles in the same Lula Kate fabric and color, which made the mix-and-match look come together beautifully. I loved how stunning the girls looked in their coordinated styles. My sisters—my Maids of Honor—wore Jenny Yoo dresses in a blue floral pattern, which added the perfect accent to the rest of the girls’ look!

Jeffrey wore a Canali sharkskin suit with subtle threads of light and dark blue, paired with a Brioni tie. It was the perfect choice to bring together all the different blue tones, from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the darker suits worn by the groomsmen.

Later in the night, we had a chicken and French fry bar, and we ended the evening with donuts as a sweet send-off treat for our guests.

My wedding planner, Emilie with Emi Events, absolutely nailed the execution of our coastal-elegance design, thoughtfully weaving together so many meaningful details. Southern Floral brought my vision to life with hydrangea and rattan-forward tablescapes that felt both organic and elevated. We rented our linens and tabletop pieces from Unearthed Rentals, and I was obsessed with the added texture and dimension the tablecloths brought to every table. I hadn’t seen this particular linen used often, but Emilie managed to source it for our wedding, and it ended up being one of my favorite details. Little Postage House created personalized menus for each guest, featuring the crest from our invitation suite at every seat. That crest carried throughout the wedding, from embossed napkins, custom matchboxes,s to golf balls to custom bar details—tying everything together as a beautiful and cohesive focal point of the night.

Jeffrey and I LOVE all things vanilla. We did a multi-tiered cake with vanilla on vanilla from Sweet Tiers, but added a chocolate layer for our guests, as we are aware we are in a minority here! We rented our cake stand from Southern Floral to stay in the rattan/wicker theme,e and it was the perfect finishing touch.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]With both of us being Catholic, we chose to have a traditional Catholic ceremony complete with readings and hymns from the church. This felt meaningful and true to who we are. For the reception, Rock With U was absolutely incredible. We shared our first dance to “Conversations in the Dark” by John Legend, and the live electronic violinist completely took everyone’s breath away with her performance. We didn’t take dance lessons; we just wanted to be present in the moment, and we’re so glad we did. Otherwise, we probably would’ve spent the whole time worrying about choreography instead of enjoying it.

The RWU fusion was exactly what our guests needed, blending so many genres seamlessly. We went from Pitbull—my dad’s favorite—to Creed, which somehow ended with my husband and me crowd surfing. The proposal was nothing short of a dream! Jake began planning nearly a year, working with our incredible ring designer, Stor by Margot, to create the perfect piece. He was determined that everything be thoughtful, intentional, and full of heart. In the months leading up to it, Jake planned spontaneous date nights, little surprises, and decoy plans into our calendar to keep me guessing. He even enlisted friends to take me out for random lunches, so I wouldn’t suspect anything when the day finally came. It was a rainy day when my friend Meghan took the train into the city to meet me for brunch. She insisted it was a chill day and told me not to stress about doing my hair. After brunch, I dropped her off at the train station and headed home—only to receive an Uber gift card notification on my phone as I walked in the door. On the kitchen table was a single envelope. The card inside read: “Today is about us. About love. There are three rules. 1. You don’t have to worry about a thing. 2. You don’t have to get ready. 3. Say your name is Whitney—and let the rest unfold.” The first stop was a manicure at my favorite salon, where my dear friend Maris greeted me. I still wasn’t entirely suspicious—Jake had been talking about getting pedicures together for weeks. Maris pretended I had booked the appointment myself and played it cool the entire time. But when the appointment ended, she smiled, told me it was all taken care of, and handed me the next card. It said, “I love you very much.” And I was off to my favorite coffee shop. When I arrived and told the barista my name, the whole café lit up— the baristas clapped and cheered, “Whitney’s here!” They handed me a warm drink and my next card. The barista told me Jake had been calling them for weeks to make sure they had every detail perfect. With my matcha in hand and my heart racing, I opened the next envelope. It spoke about all the laughter we’ve shared together and led me to one of our favorite date night spots: Comedy Bar. When I arrived, it looked completely closed. But the card told me to knock. A woman opened the door with a huge smile and said, “You must be Whitney.” She handed me another card. By now, I was still in cozy brunch clothes, makeup-free, hair undone—but Jake had planned for that too. The next card led me to a salon on the Danforth, where I was treated to a hair wash, blowout, and a full makeup session. The stylists were buzzing with excitement, asking to peek at the next card before I left. Next up was a trip down memory lane: Jake’s old apartment, the first place we ever lived together. Tucked inside the mailbox on Palmerston was another note, this one telling me to head to my final stop: The Park Hyatt downtown. By the time I got into the Uber, I was nervous, giddy, teary, and—as always—slightly carsick. My phone rang. It was Jake. He simply asked how I was feeling. I asked him the same. He said, “I can’t wait to see you. I love you.” At the Park Hyatt, I gave my name at the front desk and was handed a room key. Inside the room, three carefully chosen outfits were hung up and freshly steamed, Shoe options, fresh tulips,s and fresh strawberries. I chose an outfit, got dressed with shaky hands, and made my way to the private terrace room. As I walked down the hallway, I heard music: a live cello and violin playing “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” A man in a blue suit opened the door. And there he was—Jake. Standing at the end of an isle of flowers and tall grasses. He was all I could see. I walked toward him (probably too quickly), heart racing. When we reached each other, we held hands and hugged, breathing in the moment. Then, Jake looked at me with tear-filled eyes and said, “ From the moment I met you, I was hooked. You have opened my eyes and heart to a life I never imagined I could have, and a person I never imagined I could be. Your love and joy inspire me to be a better person and a loving partner every day. You are the one I want by myself, and I want to be by your side for the rest of my life. I love you so much, and with all my heart ask, will you marry me?” I could barely see through the tears. Jake knelt and pulled out a navy blue box. I was still staring at his face, nodding yes before I even looked at the ring. He almost stood up, and I laughed through my tears and said, “I think you’re supposed to put the ring on my finger.” He slid the ring onto my left hand—three sparkling diamonds on a delicate gold band. It fit perfectly. We stayed there, arms wrapped around each other, soaking in the moment.

We chose Graydon Hall Manor for our engagement party because it has been one of my favourite venues in the city for years. I know the staff so well and spend many summer weekends there photographing weddings, so it already feels like a place filled with joyful memories. Beyond the personal connection, Graydon Hall is the epitome of timeless beauty — its architecture, gardens, and intimate charm create the perfect backdrop for a celebration. Hosting our engagement party there felt not only meaningful, but also like a preview of the classic, romantic style we love so much.

Rainbow Chan helped bring our vision to life with a neutral palette accented by olive greens — our favourite colour — and warm tones that complemented the beautiful fall weather. I wanted the evening to feel a little magical… a moment where we could get dressed up, be surrounded by people we love, and soak in all the joy and warmth of this new chapter. Rainbow understood that perfectly, and together we created a setting that felt effortless and elegant.

My dress was custom-made by the one and only Catherine Langlois, and the entire experience with her was such a dream. She guided me through every detail, helped me feel confident in each design choice, and created something that felt perfectly “me.” I’ve always loved the timeless elegance of pearls, but I also wanted to bring in a playful, fashion-forward touch — a balance of classic and fun. To complete the look, I paired my dress with stunning pearl earrings by Blair Nadeau, pearl platform Jimmy Choos, and the off-white Simone Rocha Pearl Egg Bag. It was the perfect combination of romantic, whimsical, and modern — and I felt so truly myself in it.

Story on Wedding Cake: I have this tradition of making wedding cakes for my closest friends who have gotten married, and I always sneak up and take a picture of me taking a bite out of it the night of… which is super fun. I never wanted to do my own cake because of the pressure and time it would take to actually commit, but about a week before the wedding, I still had nothing booked, so I decided to wing it, and it came out perfect! One of my bridesmaids who I did a cake, encouraged me to take the same picture eating my own cake too, so that picture was really sweet to see!

It was a perfect representation of myself and matched my reception dress to a T!

Story on donating the florals: Those flowers were my absolute favorite thing about the whole day. They were the most beautiful, show-stopping pieces of art I have ever seen, and I knew they could go to a good cause from the minute we met with Rachel to design them. We ended up finding a local nursing home in the area that was willing to accept them as patients, and it was so heartwarming to put a smile on so many faces. Donating them was our greatest decision, and I think everyone should do it to give back to a good cause.

An Elevated White-and-Green Wedding Set Against the California Desert

[field title=”Proposal Story”]Rye and I met during the height of covid on a dating app. Because all of the city was shut down, restaurants etc, he planned a picnic for our first date on a bluff just a two minute walk from his home in the Pacific Palisades. When I arrived at the first date, I was blown away — red buffalo check tablecloth, chairs, candles, charcuterie and wine were all set up. Fast forward to nearly 4 and a half years later, we were planning on going to dinner to celebrate his late mother’s birthday like we did every year. We were toasting Lori in the front yard, taking in the views of the pacific ocean when he asked me if I wanted to go up to the bluff. I knew in that moment it was happening. We walked to the bluff and there was the picnic, recreated. He proposed with the diamond from his mom’s wedding ring, on her birthday. It had been an unseasonably wet and dark SoCal winter and the sun decided to shine that day. His dad and step-mom were hiding in the bushes watching the whole thing and my parents had arrived back at the house to surprise me. The surprises weren’t over yet! We were whisked away to dinner at our favorite restaurant in Malibu where all of our best friends were waiting for us. It was the best day ever!![/field]

The dresses looked amazing together and were the essence of a black tie garden party.

10 Things Your Florist Wishes You Knew

If you’ve been pinning gorgeous bouquets and intricate centerpieces for years, you’re probably the type of bride who’s put a lot of thought into her wedding flowers. But there are still a few things you need to know before making the floral decisions for your wedding. Here are ten insider tips that wedding florists would like you to keep in mind before your big day!

Seasonal matters.

If you ask for anemones in July or calla lilies in November, it’s going to run your bill way, way up. Look for flowers that will be blooming naturally around your wedding date, and stay flexible on the exact breed of flower.

Not all florists are the same.

When finding a florist, ask questions about delivery services, how far before your wedding the bouquets will be created, and if they provide other services (linen rentals, table number rentals, etc.)

No, flowers aren’t expensive only because they’re for your wedding.

The idea of a “wedding tax” being put on florals simply isn’t true. Flowers eat up a larger part of your budget because of the many hours put into them. Unlike for more basic events, brides tend to be very focused on complex details of their bouquets, leading to more hours for florists spent making them flawless. Between speaking with the bride, planning the florals, and actually executing the floral plan, florists can spend a ton of time bringing the bride’s floral vision to life. If you think about it, you’re really ordering custom art—and in most cases, multiple pieces.

DIY isn’t as easy as it seems.

It’s becoming more and more common or brides to put their own bouquets together or outsource to a friend. If that’s your thing, great—but make sure you do the research ahead of time. Removing pollen, thorns, and other pointy stems is an absolute necessity, and it looks a lot easier than it actually is to create a pretty group of flowers.

Outdoor photos can be killer on bouquets.

If you’re taking outdoor photos before your ceremony, limit the amount you pose with your flowers. The summer heat and winter chill can both be tough on flowers. Take a few portraits, then have a bridesmaid take your flowers back inside for a drink and some rest.

You should consider the environment.

Working with a florist that uses local gardeners means less gas and refrigeration used. Go as farm-to-table as possible. Bonus: organic flowers also tend to last longer!

Don’t use overly scented florals.

Some flowers smell amazing, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a great fit for your centerpieces. Scents highly impact our taste buds, and so if you have lilies of the valley, lilacs, or other highly-fragrant flowers in your centerpiece, it could negatively affect how your wedding meal tastes to friends and family. Also, smells are so individual—you never know if something that smells wonderful to you smells less-than-stellar to your guests.

Think about your photos and wedding day look.

Don’t select flowers for your bouquet that will clash with your bridesmaid’s dresses, even if you love them. If your venue is over-the-top and colorful, consider going simpler with the color scheme of your centerpieces. Thinking about your aesthetic as a whole will help you make better floral decisions.

Think outside the box.

Adding a personal touch, like a rosary or a piece of your mom’s veil wrapped around your bouquet, is a super-simple way to bring even more meaning to your flowers. It’s also easy to do—just don’t forget to give your memento to your florist ahead of time. Some florists also love creating unique details like flowers for your cake or entrance arches for your reception. Ask your florist to show you photos of their favorite work they’ve created for weddings to get an idea of what they can do.

Trust your vendors.

Florists work with a natural product, which means they often need to stay flexible. If the flowers you ordered haven’t quite bloomed or aren’t as large as the florist would like, they may need to make substitutions to keep your florals looking perfect. Trust that your vendor has your best interests at heart and try not to be bridezilla over your bouquet.

At the end of the day, your florist wants to work with you to make your wedding the day you’ve been dreaming of. But by keeping these tips in mind, you’ll have fewer bumps in the road and smoother sailing to “I Do” surrounded by gorgeous florals.

Our tablescape came to life beneath the arch of the Prospect Park Boathouse with a blend of whimsical charm and refined vintage detail. The base of the design begins with a delicately patterned linen in a botanical print, soft sage, and golden hues that echo the early autumn setting. Atop each place setting, ornate ivory chargers frame heirloom-inspired plates, pairing effortlessly with polished silver flatware that adds just the right touch of traditional elegance. The lavender napkin, carefully folded and placed at the center, introduces a romantic contrast. Crystal coupe glassware adds sparkle and subtle luxury, reflecting both natural light and candlelight. Florals will cascade across the table in artful asymmetry. Intentionally unstructured, yet thoughtfully curated. The arrangements will feel as if they’ve just been gathered from a garden, with a soft mix of buttery yellow blooms, lavender stems, deep wine accents, and climbing greenery. These blooms will spill over the table’s edge and intertwine with a collection of taper candles and pillar candles. Altogether, this setting feels like a chapter out of a storybook, whimsical, nostalgic, and curated for the high-end bride who dreams in both tradition and creativity. With the romantic architecture of the Boathouse as a backdrop, every detail will feel like a gentle nod to European elegance reimagined for the modern bride.

A Feminine Minimalist Wedding Inspired by Jenni Kayne Interiors

Wesley and Alexandra first met on October 25, 2014. Alexandra’s date to her high school dance fell through at the last minute, and as a result of mutual friends, Wesley stepped in as Alexandra’s new date. From the moment Wesley showed up at Alexandra’s house, he quickly noticed how Alexandra’s smile lit up the room. Despite Alexandra having a broken foot, she radiated an energy that was impossible for Wesley to ignore. Wesley and Alexandra soon realized how many similarities they shared and how much they enjoyed each other’s company. The next day, Wesley did something out of character: he sat down and wrote Alexandra a letter. He slipped the letter into the mailbox and sent a photo of it to Alexandra. Their relationship grew stronger as they navigated high school and college together. After graduation, both Wesley and Alexandra faced the reality of what to do next. It was time for a new adventure for them. They packed their bags and left everything they knew behind, moving to Hawaii. But it was there, among the palm trees and crashing waves, that their bond grew even stronger. They hiked through rainforests, swam with sharks, and watched sunsets that seemed to stretch forever. Together, they discovered new places and experiences, each adventure strengthening their love. Through it all, they never stopped laughing and finding joy in the little things – whether it was trying new foods, chasing waterfalls, or simply sharing a quiet moment on a secluded beach. Still active, still adventuring, still finding time to chase the horizon and catch the sunset before the night ends. After almost two years in Hawaii, it was time to make another big decision: it was time to leave the islands and settle in San Diego, California. We had handwritten personalized notes to all our guests. From the very first day Wes and I met, he promised me a handwritten letter in the mail. For the past 10 years of our relationship, handwritten notes have been a huge part of our relationship, so it only felt fitting to spend the time to make personalized notes to all our guests attending our wedding. This was presented during cocktail hour so guests could read their personalized note and also find their seat with the table number placed on the back of the letter. We are still getting texts and calls about how special guests felt reading these notes and how appreciative they were of this.

“Hora Loca”- My family is Cuban, and it is a tradition to have a celebration of our culture on the dance floor at family weddings. We dance and sing to our favorite Spanish tunes. We had custom tambourines come to the dance floor that had “Hora Loca” written on them. We also had custom slippers designed and made in Colombia for all our guests to enjoy.

A Moody Garden Party Transformed into an Enchanting Black-Tie Affair

When I first met with our wedding planner, Daulton, I did not have a fully formed vision. I only knew I wanted the day to feel like a “moody garden party,” something colorful and romantic that did not rely on traditional bridal palettes. From that simple idea, she created a design that completely transported us. What she brought to life felt like stepping into an intimate black-tie dinner in the world’s most enchanting garden. The tent structure, the lush and textural florals, and the thoughtful accents inspired by the venue’s wallpaper all came together to create an immersive and unforgettable experience.

The proposal was an unforgettable surprise. We met in law school at the University at Buffalo, so when Mike mentioned needing to stop by campus, nothing felt out of the ordinary. Instead of heading inside, he guided me toward the courtyard where he shared the sweetest words about our relationship before proposing with a ring that once belonged to his grandfather. A family friend was secretly nearby to capture the moment. Afterwards, we celebrated with our families, which made the surprise feel complete.

I knew from the start that I wanted a gown with an overskirt that would allow me to shift from ceremony elegance to a more streamlined reception look without a full outfit change. When I found the Wednesday dress by Wona Concept, it was an instant yes. The dramatic overskirt paired with delicate floral appliqué gave it the perfect combination of structure and romance. I purchased the gown at Bridal by J in Canandaigua. My veil was custom-designed by Ali Eagen of Made by Anatomy in Buffalo, who also handled all alterations and made the entire ensemble feel personal and special.

The bridesmaids wore elegant ruby colored dresses by Amsale, which complemented our palette beautifully and brought a rich and moody pop of color to the day. Cocktail hour featured a selection of passed hors d’oeuvres, followed by a traditional sit-down dinner with a duet entrée of filet mignon and Chilean sea bass. We wanted the dining experience to feel elevated but still deeply personal, so we incorporated meaningful touches throughout the evening. Instead of a signature drink, we offered a whisky tasting cart, which was very popular with our guests. Both of our dads enjoy whisky and helped curate the selection, and it served as a sweet nod to the years I spent studying in Scotland. In keeping with Mike’s family tradition, his mom and several cousins baked an assortment of beloved family recipe cookies. They were presented on charming two-tiered trays and became one of the most heartwarming and delicious details of the night.

The florals and décor were truly the heart of the design. Daulton drew inspiration from the venue’s iconic wallpaper and incorporated its colors and botanical motifs throughout the entire space. The tent was transformed with lush, layered garden florals that spilled across the tables and installations, culminating in a breathtaking floral cloud suspended above the reception. Elegant pendant chandeliers, soft greens, and thoughtful accent details created a warm and inviting glow. The entire setting felt like dining inside a magical garden, and it was romantic, immersive, and completely unforgettable.

The Village Bake Shoppe created both the bride’s cake and the groom’s cake in Lewiston, New York. The bride’s cake was a three-tier lemon cake with raspberry filling. The groom’s cake was a rich chocolate s’mores cake decorated with fondant versions of two of Mike’s favorite things, his guitar and our dog Posey. It was a fun surprise and instantly became a guest favorite.

The Sly Band brought incredible energy and kept the celebration lively from start to finish. One memorable detail was beginning the reception with a dance set as guests entered, which immediately encouraged people to interact, dance, and enjoy the band even before we made our entrance.
Our first dance was to the timeless classic “Fly Me to the Moon.”[/field]

We are completely obsessed with our dog Posey, and even though she could not attend the wedding, we found several playful ways to include her throughout the day. Guests loved the koozies and drink stirrers featuring her face, but my favorite detail was the “doggie bags” used for sending guests home with extra cake. Each one was printed with Posey’s portrait, which added a sweet and personal touch.

A subtle but deeply meaningful detail was incorporating framed photos of our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings into the décor. Daulton selected frames that blended beautifully with the design and styled them on bookcases during the ceremony, later moving them to the shelves behind the bar for the reception. They became a lovely conversation piece and a heartfelt tribute to the marriages that came before ours.

Early in the planning process, I became captivated by a botanical wallpaper at our venue featuring birds, vines, and florals. I worked with Buffalo-based pen and ink artist Karen Matchette to sketch some of my favorite elements, and we incorporated those illustrations into our invitations and day-of paper goods. It became a subtle artistic thread that tied the entire design story together.

This elegant garden celebration fuses luxury with the simplicity of cheerful table settings and earthy-toned furniture [Luxe Event Productions]. For the reception, airy and floral decorations set the mood, leaving room to lounge, dine, and enjoy a drink at the bar on Juniper Preserve’s Event Lawn. As for the welcome party, Western luxury steals the show with string lighting, a hat bar [Dawn & Dusk Hat Boutique], donkeys, suede furnishings, and a mechanical bull.

The reception dinner included long banquet tables, soft pastel arrangements, delicate candles, and gold-accented tableware, enhancing the romantic and upscale ambiance.

A European Inspired Estate Wedding Weekend at Commodore Perry with Fashion-Forward Flair

Over Memorial Day weekend, family and friends gathered at the iconic Commodore Perry Estate in the center of Austin, Texas, where the couple bought out the entire resort for a long weekend of celebrations. The festivities began with a bridesmaids’ pool party, followed by a rehearsal dinner at Lutie’s restaurant, and a lively welcome party in the mansion with a house-party atmosphere! Complete with mariachis, a DJ, basket lighting, dancing on tables, and late-night wings and pizza from the bride’s father’s restaurants, served on custom boats and in custom boxes. The ceremony took place behind the mansion, where a sixty-foot floral garland lined the aisle as strings played. Bridesmaids wore carefully selected dresses to reflect their personalities, paired with coordinating bouquets. Cocktail hour spread across the estate’s grounds, while dinner unfolded beneath a Sperry sailcloth tent adorned with classic white florals accented by pops of green and pink. The vision here was an elegant, European-inspired table setting with organic florals. Dancing followed in the chapel with Jordan Kahn’s Professor D band, before the couple departed in a vintage Ferrari through the cold sparks. Guests then returned to Lutie’s for an intimate after-party to close out the weekend. We had the Caruso Royale at the aperitifs, Costa D’Amalfi – Terre Saracene, Ettore Sammarco, and Costa d’Amalfi – Selva delle Monache DOC, Ettore Sammarco at dinner,r and an open bar at the after party/pizza party near the pool at Caruso. Dinner Menu: Sea bass marinated in Amalfi Coast citrus fruits with celery and Annurca apple compote, Penne pasta in Neapolitan style with creamy courgettes, clams, and sweet pecorino chees ande, Basil-crusted veal medallions with sautéed vegetable ratatouille, and Red Snapper with almond crust, zucchini, and baked tomatoes with sfumato Amalfitan sauce, and Ricotta and pear tart with marinated strawberries. The decorations were simple, yet effective, because we wanted the beauty of the venue to shine, and we truly were in the most beautiful place on earth. We felt like less was more with the decorations, and we felt we only needed simple candles and flowers as the accents to the beautiful setting.
