Xiaopeng Li and Angel’s Wedding

July 26th. 2010 by Abby Larson | Filed Under | 75 comments

If you’ve never watched a wedding video on our site (’cause your boss might be looking over your shoulder or something)…now is the time to cave. This is officially the best wedding video I have ever seen in my entire life. And although I don’t want to give away too much, because I REALLY want you to devour it completely unbiased, I will tell you that Elysium knocked it clear out of the park with this. Oh and to make it even cooler, the dreamy groom is none other than Chinese Olympic gold medal gymnast Xiaopeng Li!

I mean…how completely awesome is that!? It’s pretty much the best thing that I have ever seen and I am SO thrilled that Elysium has let us debut it right here on Style Me Pretty. Here’s what the gorgeous bride, Angel, had to say…

Julie from Elysium Productions and our planner Carolyn asked us if we wanted to film our Same Day Edit as a music video. “Yeah we do!”. We went through so many songs and finally decided on Michael Buble’s “Just Haven’t Met You Yet.” Xiaopeng was very nervous to sing the song even though he’s preformed in front of millions at the Olympics. Turns out he is a natural in front of the camera. We did 5 takes throughout the wedding day and it turned out wonderfully! Our guests were soooo surprised. We’re so happy and we love the video!!! We showed it at our China reception and our guest there we equally impressed because it was so unique and fun.

If you’re dying to see more from this beautiful wedding, Victor Sizemore sent a ton of gorgeous images our way and the bride (who I am kind of thinking might be the most beautiful bride on the planet) sent us over the story of their day. You can click here to see even more!

From the bride, Angel…My younger sister would take golf lessons occasionally on Saturday afternoons The Pelican Hill Resort. That’s how I found the perfect venue for our wedding. The site is absolutely stunning. I used to stop by on Saturdays and sneak a peek at the vendors setting up for weddings. After finding the venue it was off to find a planner. Our wedding planner Carolyn Chen was FABULOUS! Without her, there would be no wedding. She was recommended by a few people in the wedding industry and after meeting with her I knew she was a perfect match for us. Carolyn understood our style and made it a reality. We chose blush pink, light turquoise and pearl as our colors. We wanted the feel to be romantic but also youthful and vibrant. Our photographer Victor C. Sizemore captured the day perfectly. We kept the wedding very westernized because we were also having a huge Chinese wedding in Beijing.

For the ceremony we wanted it to feel intimate and warm. We decided to have a theater in the round style seating at the ceremony so that everyone was in a circle with us exchanging vows in the middle. It was very cool seeing all of our friends and family around us. Kind of like “a circle of love”. The gazebo we got married under was so magnificent! Our florist Nisie went so above and beyond. I knew from all of our meetings that it was going to be beautiful, but seeing the reality of that gazebo was so breathtaking. I wore a magnificent custom made dress by two lovely ladies in Los Angeles, Patty Sanchez and Maria Park. Our photo booth and blue/pink candy bar was a big hit.

It was a fabulous day. I believe it was the perfect mix of romance and fun. Thinking back on the wedding day, looking at the photos and watching the video, I sometimes can’t believe that was my wedding…too good to be true!!!!! It was so beautiful and dreamy! Everything came together perfectly. I’m the luckiest girl in the whole world. I married the greatest guy and had the BEST wedding.

PS. I’d like to thank my sister Ling Ling for playing golf at Pelican Hill. Without her I probably would have never discovered the place and also for making the greatest maid of honor toast ever!

It was a cute video, but a weird choice of song. Maybe I'm just not getting it, but "I Just Haven't Met You Yet" is not something I'd want associated with my wedding.

  43. Angel Li says:

    Hi everyone!!!!!

So glad you like our wedding :) I hope it's an inspiration to all you future brides out there!

For those asking about the dress and sash, I got it made by two lovely ladies out in LA. They were amazing! I went to so many wedding dress shops in LA and orange county and i couldn't find the absolutely perfect dress. My planner Carolyn recommended Patricia and Maria who made a custom dress for another one of her brides. I had a meeting with them and they could make exactly what i wanted plus that sparkly Swarovski belt!!!

I encourage brides who are in LA/orange county area to have them make your dream wedding gown! I seriously had the most amazing experience with them! They made me my dream dress that fit me perfectly. I really wanted a sparkly belt to go with my dress and Patricia made me that belt by sewing every Swarovski crystal on by hand! She did an amazing job. I can't say enough wonderful things about them. They can make any style of dress you want and they're just such lovely people :)

Their business is called Monaco Couture. Their website is under construction but just contact them through their email, monacomnibridal@gmail.com and just ask for Maria and Patricia. Tell them Angel says "hi!"

My necklace I wore was my "something borrowed" a family friend lent it to me to wear that day. It's seriously so beautiful huh?

Ask away if you have any more questions! Happy planning to all future brides!

  44. Lulu says:

Where are the bridesmaids dresses from? I love them!!

  45. Angel Li says:

The bridesmaid dresses??? You'll never guess... I originally wasn't going to have any bridesmaids because i thought there were going to be too many but kind of last minute I said "ok lets do it!"

We got all 9 bridesmaid dresses at the LA fashion district. $49 dollars for each dress. Crazy inexpensive I think.

My sister's maid of honor dress was BCBG. They all looked cute :)

  46. james says:

I just love it and happy I was there. It is a life time memory.

  47. Angelie says:

Hi Angel, thanks so much for the response on your dress! I am emailing Patty and Maria now since I still haven't found the dress that makes my heart flutter!

Can you tell us which store in LA fashion district you got the bridesmaid dresses from?

  48. Caitlin says:

Wow this is such a beautiful wedding! I love everything about it! The dress and belt are amazingly beautiful and very unique. I love the idea of a couture dress that no one else will ever have, and the video is SO adorable and cute! You really see the love and personality of the couple through the video. Nothing about this wedding could be better.

  49. Carolyn Chen says:

Thanks to everyone for your comments, and Angel thanks for responding to questions everyone has posted!
Angel & XP are 2 of the most loveliest people I've ever ever met!
Love you both Angel & XP, and it was such an honor to be part of your wedding day!!! XOXO

  50. Mary says:

    Angel!

Your hair looked amazing. I loved how you wore it both up and down. Do you have close up pictures of both hairstyles?

  51. Angel Li says:

    Hi Angelie

I can't exactly which store I got them from. Have you ever been to the fashion district before? It was my first time. One of my bridesmaids suggested going there. We needed dresses like ASAP, all at once and that were not too expensive.

We just walked around all around the fashion district and went into different stores. They all kind of look like prom-y dresses but they have a lot of different styles. Good thing was that since I was buying 9 dresses we bargained with the guy for a good price.

Definitely not like a glamourous place but if you're willing to hunt you could potentially find great dresses.

  52. Angel Li says:

    Hi Mary

Yeah! I couldn't decide up or down so we did both. Up for ceremony and down for reception :) I have close up pictures of both when I did my preview with my hair and makeup artist Joyce. Do you want pictures?

  53. krista says:

What exactly are those clear bulbs you used for the hanging florals? They are so cute, but never seen them before. Beautiful Beautiful Wedding!

  54. Angel Li says:

Our florist provided those. They're like these glass balls. She put beautiful flowers in there, pretty cool. It was magical standing under them. I've seen people use them in center pieces at receptions. We did at our wedding in China :)

  55. Angel Li says:

    CJ,

Cake stand was also from our florist. It's like glass with flowers in it :)

  56. Mary says:

    Angel,

I would love to see pictures if you don't mind. :) Can you e-mail me at thebridesguidetumblr@gmail.com ?

  64. Teresa says:

I have to say Angel is definitely one of the most beautiful brides I’ve ever seen! The exotic, elegant, yet natural look in her smiles is most amazing. Her hairstyles are so refreshing and unique, both up and down. Angel, do you mind sharing the hair stylist’s contact info? I can’t find it in the Who’s Who list above. Also, if you don’t mind sharing the close up pictures of your hair preview, it’ll be greatly appreciated. My email: teresacai@yahoo.com

  65. Christine says:

Got here via Victor’s site. Stunned to see how beautiful Xiaopeng Li’s wife is! She is absolutely gorgeous! What a shocker. It’s a shame that the online media in China had no idea how great she looks. They showed sneak-peeked, twisted images of her by Paparazzis and the web users in China kept bashing her for not being pretty enough to match their handsome Olympic hero. This maybe a cultural thing as people in China have different aesthetic views from the west and they tend to be extremely critical, but not showing her real image? It is totally unfair to her. I would think it would be a real challenge for somebody who grew up in the west like her to live in China, especially if she is married to a celebrity there. I grew up there so I know how different and complex things can be over there. Believe me, it is tough.

Anyway, back to the topic. This wedding video is awesome! The cinematography, the music, the clipping, and the setting, just fabulous. The photos are equally marvelous. I’ll definitely consider Victor for our photography, and maybe the coordinator and the stylist. Thanks for sharing!

  66. Tricia says:

I’ll also consider Elysium Productions for a video. They did a fabulous job. Although my fiancé and I are not as good-looking as this duo, but who cares? It is the memory that counts.

As to things in China, nowadays you can buy pretty much everything there, though at a higher price. The main problems there are the culture and the intriguing social skills. As you said, straight forward things can get awfully complicated there and lots of times people say things that they don’t really mean. And for married women, it is extremely challenging coz it is common among young girls there to do just about everything to steal a man and ruin a family for a little fortune. My best friend decided to move back to the States after losing her loving hubby of 5 yrs to a not-so-pretty girl in Beijing, despite she herself being very pretty. She also said that it is an awful place for children to grow up. Off the topic.

I’ve got two months to get everything ready for my wedding. Just as this couple, we’ll also have to do a reception in China where my family is originally from. Heck of work, but excited.

  67. Angel Li says:

thanks for the nice comments you guys :) good luck with your wedding in china!!! We had one too in Beijing and it was sooo much work but it was also so fun.

  68. martini says:

hands down, cutest wedding video so far!

  69. Tom says:

Gee, isn't this the guy who topped the parallel bar event at the last 3 Olympics? So nice to see him here! I was a struggling gymnast back in 2004, I remember I was screaming to everyone in the gym that he was robbed of the PB gold after watching the broadcasting from Athens. And I remember the Chinese people were very hard on him and their men's squad at that time, but IMHO he was robbed. I still think so. Well, time really flies. I am glad that he married an American girl and moved here. That's the best for him. And he's got such a beautiful, beautiful wife (even my fiancee agrees on this). Wonderful! I am so happy for him. A big toast to him and his bride!

  70. feifei says:

It's awesome!I have collected these beautiful pictures, for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Xiaopeng got two gold medals,You are the pride of Chinese people no matter where you live! i wish beautiful Angel and Xiaopeng always happy!

  71. Shiau Lee says:

    Hi Angle,

There is no need to send me the contacts of the florist, i didn't realized u had hyperlink. Wonderful, i can tell my cousin directly, however, it would be nice to receive the preview pictures of your stylist. just email me at shiaulee.kok@gmail.com if convenience.

    Thanks girl..

  72. Alexandra says:

What a beautiful wedding!! I really like the glass globes, and how the ceremony was set up. Sounds like the video is amazing, I am not sure what happened but it seems to be password protected :( Can we still view it?
