The word of the day is…whimsical. It’s the start of the week and I felt like we all needed something a little fantastical. Something magical and zany. Something over-the-top vintage to spark our creative side. And this wedding is all that and then some. Photographed by Matt of Sights & Sounds, I found my smile growing wider and wider as I browsed through his photos. Lyle and Delia, our bride and groom, are most DEFINITELY two unique and cool dudes. No doubt in my mind. And the entire vintage bicycle theme? Well incredible.

Matt from Sights and Sounds gives us his scoop on the day:
They themed their wedding as an old Victorian era bicycle wedding and rented bicycles for all that were attending. All of the decorations and styling of the wedding party was completely DIY. Before the main ceremony they had a Indian “puja” at their apartment which only close family and friends were invited. The rest of the wedding party arrived at their apartment after for the short bike ride a few blocks away to Palisades Park where the main ceremony would be held. It was quite spectacular seeing an entire wedding party on bicycles disrupting traffic on the pacific coast highway escorted by a brass band aptly named “Critical Brass.”
After the ceremony was over and they both spoke their vows to an audience of their friends, loved ones and random passersby they went for a “victory lap” up Palisades Park and back down the pacific coast highway towards the old dancing hall where the reception was to be held.

More from Matt of Sights & Sounds. After the ceremony was over and they both spoke their vows to an audience of their friends, loved ones and random passersby, they went for a “victory lap” up Palisades Park and back down the pacific coast highway towards the old dancing hall where the reception was to be held. The reception was held at the Santa Monica Bay Woman’s Club which has been around since 1905. Inside the hall was this amazing stage where everyone participated in a sing along to Journey’s hit “Don’t Stop Believing” to cap off the night. This was definitely one of the more memorable weddings I’ve had the opportunity of being a part.

I love the dresses and the hats! What a beautiful and memorable wedding.
this looks like sooo much fun! i wish i was invited.
Amazing! I am so impressed that they managed to find outfits for the entire wedding party! The reception's decorations are perfect, and I like the "antique" photographs.
I give it a 9.5 for excellent use of pom-poms.
Wow! What a unique and memorable wedding! Definitley one-of-a-kind and not easy to forget. Even just a quick glance at the pictures and blog post leaves an indelible mark in your memory. Thanks for sharing!
Love, love love. It feels like a dream. I'm peering into someone else's perfect, perfect dream!
I just visited Santa Monica for the first time over this past Thanksgiving so it is great to see this session since I recognize some of the landmarks! I really love the vintage feel to these images and the couple is picture perfect!
Andrea - so agree. It's like the most creative dream sequence ever! All of those lovely muted pastel colors are just to die for.
Kalisa - Ha! I agree about the perfect use of pom poms!
EVERYTHING about this is awesome! i think this post is going to make everyone happy today...plus i want to be friends with these people, they seem like a blast.
Love the Vintage Wedding! How did they find that many bikes?
This is horrible! It looks like a circus.
FANTABULOUS! Thank you for finally featuring a wedding that's a bit different.
It's classy, unique and utterly beautiful. LOVE it!
@ TW - How is it horrible? It is refreshing and unique. Maybe they think that the same cookie cutter weddings are "horrible". These people are expressing their love in a creative and fun way and at the end of the day they are making a beauitful commitment to one another. I fail to see how there is anything "horrible" about that.
whilst i wouldnt go as far as to say 'horrible' or 'circus' - for me its a bit too much
To each their own. :)
I was also shooting that day with Matt and having attended and worked on countless weddings, the spirit of brotherly and sisterly love was off the charts at this one. Where else do you get everyone together for boozy sing alongs and bike rides at a wedding? I've forgotten many weddings, but I'll never forget this one.
Aesthetic preferences aside, weddings like this take courage and a sense of wonder that I wish I had more of in my life.
This is a fun wedding to look at, it looks like they spent a lot of time in the details. I do think the bridesmaid dresses are a bit much... where's Katherine Heigl??
Abby, thank you for featuring this adorable and offbeat wedding! I love the celebratory feeling about it: the brass band, the colors, and sing along, etc! This wedding is fabulous! I would have loved to have been a guest at this soiree!
I LOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this! What great style, so creative, whimsical, beautiful!!!!!!!!!
Stunning photography and amazing details... I LOVE the vintage rose bouquets!!
What a creative and beautiful wedding. It's like a step back in time, but to a better time than what was real.
One word...unforgettable!
very...bizarre, but looks like they had fun.
I was there, and I think the photos look good. A big fog rolled in during the ceremony and that's kinda how it looked like.
The band was amazing and so were the guests! The bride and groom weren't too shabby either. Oh yeah, awesome food.
The whole thing was divine and magically flawless somehow. Delia has cosmic powers.
I wouldn't go as far as saying 'horrible' - there are some lovely aspects to this wedding. However, I do have to agree with some other posters; this is just a little too circus-y, over the top.
Just thinking about being a guest, my immediate reaction to having to bike somewhere with makeup and hair done, and dressed (most likely in a dress and heels) is complete annoyance.
And thinking about the enormous rage, at least among my friends and family, of age and fitness levels - I can just imagine Aunt Harriet's meltdown at the thought of having to bike somewhere when she opens that invitation!
Also a little too costume-y, just seemed to be one of the weddings portrayed in 27 Dresses! Now, where is Little Bo Peep??!
this wedding is so spectacular - everyone looks so happy and excited. and a sing-along?! the ultimate party. i just love it.
Very creative and free-spirited. It is awesome that a couple can just let their imaginative run while and execute their wishes. The guest centerpieces and cake were beautiful.
What an original idea. I love the whimsy. It reminds me of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This wedding is truely scrumptious!
All of the weddings on SMP are beautiful... in exactly the same way. This one is different and cool. Thanks for sharing.
WOW, it is amazing that they use bicycles to be the transportations. The couples will never forget their wedding. I'd like to have another idea to optimize mine!! :]
this is absolutely amazing! love it. thanks for sharing, you just made my day a little brighter :D
So blue! And fun ;-)~
totally in love with the bicycles.
LOVE IT
