Saturday Morning Movie: A Love Story 20 Years In the Making

Who would have thought, back in the second grade, when these two met, that they were meeting their soul mate right then and there. But that’s exactly what happened and the journey they started on is nothing short of amazing. Some things just make sense, and these two and their friendship which grew to be so much more, is just that, as we learn in this film by Bear Hands Media. They made it official with a celebration planned by Keely Thorne Events and we’re left in awe, with no doubts in the power of fate.

From Bear Hands MediaAmanda and Ryan have known each other since the second grade. They were friends forever until one day when they finally realized that they were soul mates all along. You can tell by the way they look at each other that their years of friendship has built an unbreakable devotion for each other. It was a pleasure to witness a union of this magnitude. One that was nothing short of meant to be.

Sail Off Into the Sunset with This Nautical Inspiration Session

Inspired by the picturesque sailboats at Dallas’ White Rock Lake, this incredible team of creatives (including Anna Smith PhotographyJenny McCannCallie ManionChelsea Q. White PhotographyKate Pease, Ben Q. Photography and Allen Tsai Photography) created a nautical dream with ethereal touches throughout. From the two-piece blue wedding dress to the delicious cakes from Sugar Bee Sweets, this inspiration session is almost too good to be true. See it all in The Vault!

From Anna Smith PhotographyOur Haystack Film Gathering community in Dallas is thriving. We have such a great and talented group of photographers that love to get together and collaborate on shoots, sharing ideas, talent and camaraderie unparalleled with other cities. Currently there are about 20 of us and we are growing! For the summer gathering, Anna Smith Photography and Silver Lining Events put on an amazingly gorgeous sunset nautical inspiration shoot at the Dallas White Rock Lake. The inspiration came from the idea to use one of the sailboats at the lake and combine that with a neutral palette of elegant, light and classy hues of blues and greens. The florals used were: cream vendela roses, cream football mums, cream privett flowering, cream peonies, spray roses cream majolica, Nigella blue, Millet green, salad leaf and silver dollar eucalyptus.

The color palette Silver Lining Events used was white, cream, shades of blue and natural greens. We chose an ethereal bridal gown from A and Be Bridal that was a two-piece corset and skirt. The corset had a light blue underlining and accented our style oh-so-well. The groom’s style was impeccable in a white tuxedo from Culwell & Son in Dallas. Vella Nest Floral designed bouquets and centerpieces with bright shades of green and white.

The table designed by Silver Lining Events was decorated with help of ChrysQ Handcrafted hand-dyed linens for a natural seaside look. We scattered sand and seashells throughout. Sugar Bee Sweets provided the two delicious-looking watercolor cakes. Bunny and Bear is my absolute go-to stationery and calligraphy company. She is so talented and created stationery and all the calligraphy with blue, green and white hues to match our floral design. We hope you enjoy this gorgeous collaboration!

From Mariel HannahI had the pleasure of photographing Daane and Marisa’s wedding in Tulum this past February. For die hard Twilight Fans, some may be familiar with Marisa Quinn as she is an actress and played a vampire role in the blockbuster films. They dreamt of a wedding celebration full of meaning with their closest family & friends, so they got just that.

From the Bride…MAGIC.

Pure. Absolute. Otherworldly…MAGIC.

Nothing else can describe the beauty of that day. Without a doubt, it was the most extraordinary day of our lives.

After having experienced the mystical power of the Mayan Riviera before, we knew we wanted to be married in a sacred space, and make it an all day affair. For the Mayans, cenotes were revered as one of the three entryways to the land of the Gods. For centuries, sacred rituals have taken place at the mouth of these waters – and on February 26th, 2016 – our very own sacred ritual was performed…and the magic alive the air was palpable.

A traditional Mayan musician graced us with ancient sounds played on hand-carved instruments…the mystical sound of the flute floated through the air as I walked down the aisle. A rehearsal had not been possible due to the sacredness of the site, so as I began to walk down the “aisle” – I realized for the first time that my 3 inch wedges weren’t gonna allow me to make it down in one piece. So after a few steps down the path, I stopped my dad, kicked of my shoes with a laugh, and proceeded down toward my groom with bare feet and my dress gently draping along the earth.

Time stood still, and I didn’t care about anything that wasn’t truly real. About two minutes into the ceremony, I tossed off my veil as well because I didn’t want anything obstructing my view of some of the most precious moments of my life. And the best part? It wasn’t even weird that I did that! It all just felt like it was exactly what was supposed to happen.

As the Shaman continued the ceremony, even the fish and the birds felt compelled to join in the moment. The fish gathered near his feet, the birds flew in resting on nearby branches… even a kitten found his way into the ceremony circle! As soon as I saw him approach and take a seat at the top of the cave, I whispered to Daane “mira! el gatito!!” (“look! a little cat!). I’m a total cat lady, so of course I was over the moon to have this particular unexpected guest join us!

Overall – it was simply magical. As our contribution to the otherwise traditional Mayan ceremony, Daane and I exchanged our own vows, pouring our hearts out to one another and promising to give the best of ourselves from that moment on.

Of course…in the real world, fairytale moments don’t come without their fair share of real-world hiccups. We had PLENTY go wrong that picture-perfect day. From the bride & groom being forgotten and left at the house while the entire wedding party was being shuttled to the ceremony, to being stranded AGAIN at the close of the ceremony when the keys to our car were accidentally taken and our wedding party was already 45 min away…to an unexpected rope swing obstructing our ceremony space and the Zika virus threatening to keep all our guests at home…we had MANY hurdles to overcome to get to our happily ever after. But when you’re riding high on love and the mystical powers of Tulum – ain’t nothin’ gonna ruin your day! With the help of our family and friends we sailed through every unexpected twist and turn with a laugh and a smile, and fell asleep that night to the sound of the waves crashing, asking ourselves how we ever got so lucky to live such a perfectly imperfect truly magical day.

#SMPWedding101 – Why You Should Take Dance Lessons Before You Say ‘I Do’

In the spirit of honesty, here we go: my hubby and I were downright nervous about our first dance. All 200+ people were watching and we froze up a bit. While we can laugh at it now, looking back, dance lessons may have been a wise choice. More likely than not, dancing will be a big part of your big day and when you kick it off with your first dance, you want to make your mark. Why so important? Ballroom Dance Chicago tells us why!

1. Set the Mood

You’ve thought through every other detail of this event, no matter how seemingly insignificant, so don’t let this big moment fall flat! What kind of mood are you going for? Starlight and romance or fist-pumping dance party? The mood of your first dance begins with the song you choose. If you want a relaxed, romantic reception, pick a tender, sweet song to dance to or if you want to kick up the dance party, pick a song that will inspire your guests to get out there and join you on the dance floor! But don’t stop there! By seeking assistance from a wedding dance professional, you’ll ensure that you and your fiance are able to move together in a way that is a bit more advanced than the hug-and-waddle and that matches your song choice!

2. Tradition

While you might decide to do away with some of the other events at a wedding deemed “traditional” (think garter/bouquet tossing, dollar dances, and grand entrances for the bridal party), the first dance is one you’ll definitely want to keep! It’s a physical representation of your relationship, and it allows you to have a special moment with your fiance during the reception. Why throw that tradition away? We’ve heard many reasons: perhaps you don’t know how to dance, you don’t particularly like dancing, you have no rhythm, the list goes on and on. But, there’s an easy remedy for all of these problems: take some dance lessons!

3. Fun Date Night

Wedding planning, work stress, and appeasing all various family demands are what most of your days are probably consumed by. With all of the things on your miles-long to-do list, you really don’t have an opportunity to have quality time with your significant other. Dance lessons are a great way to get it back (while still checking something off of your wedding planning list), so make a date night out of it! Taking time out every week leading up to the wedding to just enjoy each others’ company will keep you connected to the reason you’re getting married (i.e. you really really like each other), rather than allowing your partnership to get bogged down in finances and decision making.

4. More Than Just Dance Moves

You will practice important skills for your marriage during dance lessons. At the conclusion of a usually long, oftentimes stressful planning process, a wedding is seen as a welcome ending to a hectic period in a couple’s life. However, a wedding is the beginning of two lives merging into one, and this new union can take more work than expected to maintain. Just like a first dance, if you’re able to put in a little preparation and practice, you’ll be able to handle any situation with grace and ease and emerge with your relationship unscathed. By taking dance lessons and learning something new with the one you love, you will develop a closer bond and practice many skills important for marriage.

Find a dance school in your area that specializes in wedding prep! If you don’t have one near you, consider Ballroom Dance Chicago’s virtual dance lessons or weekend intensives! The Bride Wanted an Epic Dress, and this Gown Totally Delivered

Growing up in rural Kenya, Jessica used her allowance money to buy copies of British Vogue and escape to a world of fashion and glamour. And when dreaming of her wedding day she said, “I always knew when I got married I wanted to have an epic dress.” Luckily her all lace, long sleeve, plunging neckline Berta gown completely fit the bill for the ultimate celebration with her love, Eric. Almond Leaf Studios captured the images and film you mustn’t dare miss.

From the Bride…Inspiration. For our wedding my biggest inspiration was timeless elegant glamour. I wanted things to be soft, romantic, clean, classic, grand and effortlessly gorgeous. When choosing different stylistic elements for the wedding I wanted to make sure everything I chose was timeless, chic, beautiful and not a fad or a trend. I love the way that you can still look at Grace Kelly’s wedding dress 60 years later and fall in love with it over and over. Stylistically I love things that are clean, elegant and timeless like Jackie Kennedy and Coco Chanel. There is something I have always loved about a bride wearing a classic white lace gown and a groom wearing a classic black tuxedo on their wedding day. It is timeless and never goes out of style.

I am very decisive when it comes to things I like or do not like. I only tried on two dresses. I only visited one venue. I do my research and go with my gut.

Color Palette. My color palette was clean and classic. I wanted everything to be neutrals. I chose black, white, charcoal, ivory, champagne and gold as my colors. All my stationery was in shades of grey, pearl ivory Crane Lettra, charcoal letterpress, gold foil and gold wax seals. I specifically told my florist I wanted white flowers and white flowers only – but to include lots of greenery too. The bridesmaids wore breezy, elegant champagne dresses with sparkly earrings and belts for that little bit of extra glam.

Dress. I wanted my dress to be dramatic, romantic and memorable, but not gaudy or over the top. I fell in love with the Berta dress when I saw it online. I knew it was the one. The details on it were exquisite. I loved the deep V neck with pearl beading almost down to my belly button, the dramatic lace train, the bare back, the pearl beading detail on the end of the sleeves, and the sentimental value of the fact that it was hand made in Israel.

I grew up in Africa. I went to school at an American boarding school in Kenya and every month I’d save up my allowance to buy a copy of British Vogue magazine and just pour over the pages – It was my little escape – A little bit of glamour to dream about while living in rural Kenya. I always knew when I got married I wanted to have an epic dress.

Venue. I had always wanted to get married in the south of France or a village in Italy but the minute I visited the Duke Mansion I instantly fell in love with it’s old world southern charm and glamorous feel. It was grand but it was also so warm, intimate, romantic and cozy. I loved the stately large white walls of this gorgeous historic site, the wrought iron fences and light fixtures, the stone fountains and terraces and the lush rose gardens. I was so excited to host both of our families in this classic Southern Charmed mansion in the heart of the city that we fell in love in – a city that is an integral part of our love story.

Personal Touches. Even though I wanted a big glamorous wedding, at the same time I wanted to make it very dear and personal. I wanted to make sure everybody had a blast and felt like they were there to celebrate our love. I worked hard over the course of 18 months to add a lot of personal touches to the wedding. I made and designed all the stationary myself; almost entirely by hand. (with the exception of the letterpress and gold foil stamping, done by the amazing people over at Crayton Heritage Letterpress) We wanted to make sure each guest felt contacted personally by us. I hand sketched our welcome sign, we hand-stamped coffee and tea favor bags. My mom and dad hand painted the table numbers and bride and groom chair signs. The antique silver candle sticks were used at my parent’s wedding, and the champagne glasses we used to toast the cake cutting were the same ones my parents used at their cake cutting 30 years earlier. We even had our whole family (fresh off the plane from California) hand paint gold accents on olive branches (a symbol of peace and love) for everyone’s plates the day before the wedding. It was such a fun group effort and made everyone feel included in some part of the wedding.

On the First Night They Met That He Was Going to Marry Her

Would you believe me if I told you that on the first night they met, Todd told Ashleigh that was going to marry her? What if I told you that Erica Schneider Photography told me that this was in fact, true. Well, in the event that you’re still doubting said fact, I invite you to witness what Todd was planning all along in The Vault!

“Todd told Ashleigh on the first night

they met that he was going to marry her”

From Erica Schneider PhotographyAshleigh and Todd tied the knot in the backyard of their home in Temecula, CA. Todd (Potter) is a professional freestyle motocross rider and they met years ago at an event where Ashleigh was also modeling at the time to get through college. Todd told Ashleigh on the first night they met that he was going to marry her. Ashleigh thought he was a little bit crazy, but here they are six years later surrounded by family and friends at their dream wedding! Ashleigh looked stunning in her subtle but feminine Grace Loves Lace dress. Ashleigh and Todd spent many hours on the evolution of their backyard into a wedding venue and on the rustic chic details that decorated their ceremony and reception. After their first kiss as husband and wife, the two drove off in Todd’s vintage Ford pickup. The newlyweds will be honeymooning in Italy this month!

The Ultimate Dinner Party Inspired Wedding

This celebration right here is a wedding that speaks directly to my heart. Reason being? This perfect pair decided to buck tradition and only incorporate what felt natural to them, and for that I say KUDOS. With Rachel Solomon Photography behind the lens, their intimate celebration proves that you can in fact have it all (and them some), while staying true to who you are. See it all in The Vault!

From The Bride…We talked for years about eloping in lieu of a traditional wedding. Bora Bora, Sydney, London, and many others were considered while we dreamt about a capricious time where we could have one of our most meaningful days all to ourselves. We didn’t fancy the idea of having a bridal party, overpaying for just about everything, spending time with people we didn’t truly know, being the center of attention, or even dancing (that’s right, we’re a non-dancing couple). But we could never pull the trigger and actually book the trip of a lifetime that would have excluded our dearest family and friends.

After six years of going around and around about when and where and how to elope, we decided to have a traditional wedding that broke all the traditions we don’t care for. We had a small wedding with just 54 guests, and every single one of them was important to us. We skipped the grand entrance, the first dance, and the bouquet toss simply because those options didn’t appeal to us. In fact, we didn’t have any dancing at all. We wanted our reception to feel like a late-night garden dinner. So we opted out of the traditional ballroom setting in favor of the great outdoors. My sister was the maid of honor and there was no best man. Kyle felt that asking someone to take on the role would be burdensome and annoying, so he didn’t. He just joked that Pip, one of our cats, was asked but declined the role. We arranged for everything we wanted and left out everything we didn’t. The only thing missing was our five cats…sort of.

Kyle is a true cat lover. He’s always kind to them and they bring him so much happiness. I knew I had to incorporate our cats into the wedding but did not want it to be cheesy. Kyle is from the South, Tennessee to be exact, so I thought a surprise groom’s cake was my best chance. I did some research and found an incredibly talented confectionary artist- seriously that is what she is. Haley Carins with Heartsweet Cakes spoke with me for hours about the concept. I wanted the cake to be modern and masculine and show off our cats. Amounting to everything I asked for and more, it served as desert, three dimensional art, entertainment, and a sentimental reminder of our everyday life together.

We incorporated some personal touches to add meaningful nuances where we could. During the ceremony, we each poured soil from our home states (Tennessee and Massachusetts) into a mock orange plant that was later planted in our yard in Phoenix. As a nod to the fact that we almost opted out of having the wedding, we included a city in fine print at the bottom of all eight table markers, each one identifying a different city we considered eloping to. Our one and only DIY dabble consisted of many handmade and hand strung hearts that hung on the back of our reception chairs (I have a picture of Kyle working on the project in his underwear that I think is so sweet and cute).

The colors of the wedding were ivory, varying purples, a touch of mocha, and lots of green. Kyle’s favorite color is green so I wanted to make sure our design embraced that. Natural colors are so beautiful so we brought green in through the lawn, plants, cacti, floral arrangements, and eucalyptus garlands flowing down the aisle and two king’s tables. Mocha came from varying exposed wood pieces and the purples came from peonies, lilacs, button daisies, dahlias and anemones. We did not want to distract from the scenery and warmth of the venue, which has special history and meaning for our relationship. We wanted the feel to be airy yet elegant and clean but still romantic. It was breathtaking.

My favorite moment happened during dinner. It was dark, the heaters were on, Crave by MTNS was playing, and the scent of orange blossom was in the air when we noticed that birds were flying back and forth overhead. It brought me back to 2010 when we took our first vacation together. We stayed at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale and noticed the birds flying over the lawn from the patio at Talavera while at dinner. At that moment, six years ago, I secretly wished we would someday be married there. And we were.

Turn Girls’ Night into a Backyard Movie Fest under the Stars

Blogger Bri Emry of Designlovefest knows all about making things beautiful and after a recent trip to Japan, she was inspired to host her best girlfriends for cinematic screening in her backyard infused with Japanese sensibilities. The result is downright gorgeous and she is giving us the 411 on hosting your own backyard movie night plus shop the look with Joss & Main right here.

Tell us about your inspiration for this Instagram-worthy bash.

After a recent trip to Japan, I came home with incredible amounts of inspiration. We took an overnight trip to Kyoto and stayed in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn with tatami matted rooms, dim lighting, a public bath house, low tables for dining with an array of vessels and dishes, and sleeping mats that roll up nicely into the closet when they are not in use.

We were all so fascinated by the feeling we had here, that I wanted to try to achieve something similar and unique for our movie night. We brought in a variety of Japanese snacks, custom sake glasses as takeaways, paper lanterns for the mood, and a bamboo bed with low seating all around.

What are your top tips for throwing an outdoor movie night?

Comfort! Give people multiple areas to lounge, plenty of pillows and chairs and places where people can gather comfortably close to the screen or away from it near the snack table.

I like to play a movie that most people have seen and loved and is easily relatable. It also makes it more fun when it’s not as serious and you can chat during the film and not have to focus on watching every minute.

I always end up making too much food. People really just want to drink and lightly snack! 3. What’s your go-to movie night spread? Bite size foods like mini soft pretzels with dipping sauces, hummus and veggies, popcorn with sea salt and rosemary, wine, sparkling water and something sweet!

With summer coming to a close, can you share your tips for making an outdoor gathering work in the chillier months?

People love getting cozy with blankets and pillows. It brings up fun childhood memories of making forts in the living room. Add some dreamy lighting or a fire pit and throw in plenty of fuzzy blankets! Oh! And maybe a hot drink like a mulled cider or hot chocolate and warm snacks.

More Home Decor Inspiration Right this Way!

It All Started with an Instant Message

This couple? They’re kind of everything. Because not only did John and Amanda’s love story start when they were just youngsters, but the beginning of said romance? Downright cinematic. Fast forward a decade later and this sweet pair proves that their love is stronger than ever. With Maria Lamb behind the lens capturing every second of their celebration, we’ve got it all waiting for you in The Vault!

“To officially ask me to be his girlfriend, he named a star
after me and filled up a spiral notebook with letters

From The Bride…My husband was 16 and I was 15 when we first met. We were playing tennis. He saw me on the other side of the courts and walked up to say hello – “Hey, you’re Abby’s friend Amanda, right?” That was the beginning of late nights instant messaging on AOL (AIM), sending mail on MySpace (pre-Facebook), and leaving notes for each other in between our high school classes. To officially ask me to be his girlfriend, he named a star after me (Walk to Remember?) and filled up an entire three-subject spiral notebook with letters. We then went to Prom, where we had our first official dance.

We are each others’ first-and-only. But like all couples, we’ve also had our struggles. 26/25 year old John and Amanda are very different from their 16/15 year old selves. For eight out of our 10 years together, we were doing long-distance (Los Angeles, New Haven, Maine, New York, Boston). For 1.5 of those years, we took a break (without seeing other people). Our first time as adults in the same city was only two years ago. We are thankful for our journey, a testament both to what God has done in our lives and also our continual perseverance.

John proposed in Napa on December 18th, 2015, by reading me a letter which he wrote in 2006, hardly half a year into our courtship. Although it was only a few months after we met, John wrote that he loved me and wanted to marry me. I think he was smart to never give me that letter 9 years ago, as he might have scared me away! But luckily he saved it, and I will cherish those words forever.

Maria did a great job capturing the vibrancy of our excitement, disbelief, and joy that this day was finally happening. We chose the Poconos because I spent every summer there growing up. We loved the camp theme as it offered our guests the chance to take advantage of the beautiful Pennsylvania outdoors: guests stayed the entire weekend and slept in cabins, while spending free-time zip lining, canoeing, hiking, etc. What sold the place for John was the lack of noise restrictions and that the party could last until sunrise (as opposed to strict 10pm cut-offs at other venues). Also, how gorgeous are the trees! There’s a reason it is called Camp “Timber Tops.”

The weekend started on Friday with a traditional Korean “paebek” ceremony, honoring John’s heritage and our beginnings as both an American and multi-cultural family. The dress is known as a “hanbok” and my favorite element of the ceremony was when John gave me, his mom, and my mom each a piggy-back ride, to signify his responsibility to uphold his future family. Also, family members threw us dates (girls) and chestnuts (boys), and how many we caught symbolized our future children – 2 girls, 1 boy! Finally we ended the night with delicious Korean BBQ and libations.

Saturday was the traditional black tie wedding. The decorations and planning were a collective labor of love led my my mom, along with her team of friends/family who worked hard to make the day special. I can never repay their time and energy, whether crafting the cross for our ceremony, tying hundreds of goodie bags with s’mores, setting the tables with logs and candles, hand-painting our bark signs, etc. My mom saved one surprise for coming back down the aisle – not rice, but rainbow marshmallows!

After we were pronounced husband and wife, we entered the camp dining hall for the reception; this was when it became real, as all of our friends and family who flew in from around the world cheered for us as we danced to “Must’ve Done Something Right.” If there was one thing that surprised me the most about our wedding, it was the realization that it is not all “your” day but where you can celebrate God, family, friends who were there with you every step of the way.

A Gold Beaded Gown Set the Stage for a Glam Puerto Rican Wedding

It’s always a given that the bride steals the show on her wedding day. But when she wears a gold beaded gown THIS pretty? It’s stealing the show on a whole other level. With Maria A Lugo and Akua Event Design Group making the couple’s wedding dreams come true, it’s easy to see why their day captured by Enuel Viera went off without a hitch. More in The Vault!

From Akua Event Design GroupDestination weddings in Puerto Rico are intimate and provide an opportunity for guests to relax and enjoy the Caribbean. Plus the bride and groom get to have all of their friends and family at one place, to participate in different activities before the wedding.

We were very excited to design the wedding of Kelly Zerbini and Jesse Gottlieb. Especially, because the lovely bride is an interior designer in New York City and with great tastes. She gave us a clear idea of what she wanted for her special day, but she trusted our design and exhorted to use her board as inspiration. Her vision and ours came together flawlessly.

The design included many natural and rustic elements like wood and glass vases for the floral arrangements, drift wood and clementines which added a special magical touch. For the floral design we used white roses, eucalyptus, wax flowers, succulents and freesias. When you walked into the Salón Martorell you felt an air of sophistication, the color scheme and design meshed wonderfully.

Super Chic South Florida Engagement Shoot

This chic couple deserved a chic e-shoot to match their personalities and style and that’s exactly what Still55 Photography gave them. From their on point clothing choices as they strolled St. Augustine (seriously, this dress!? I need!) to their relaxed romance on the beach at dusk – it captures them oh so perfectly. Get fashionably inspired in our Vault right this way!

From Still55 Photography… Skye and Ankur both live in South Florida and are plaining a chic wedding at the Four Seasons with the help of Whitney Carillon Weddings and Laure Clavette at the Four Seasons Orlando. Skye works for Christian Louboutin and has a love for fashion. Once we got a sense of who Skye and Ankur were we knew what to go for. We began developing locations that would present a chic European look inspired by rich cinematic textures and iconic fashion. St. Augustine provided the European palette we needed and the nostalgic coast we wanted. The idea was to have them end their day on the shores of the Atlantic at dusk. Photographing the unexpected portraitures all of our clients are after. With soft focus and grainy textures we ended our time leaving everyone wanting more. We love working with couples that want the “editorial look;” these images showcase everything we love about portraiture. We are thrilled with Skye and Ankur and can’t wait to work with them again along side some of Florida’s elite planners like Whitney Carillon Weddings and premier venues like the Four Seasons.

Florals Almost Stole The Show at this Garden Estate Wedding…

The coral, pink and cream flowers at this garden estate wedding are guaranteed to make your Pinterest boards bloom. But they aren’t the only pieces of this pretty puzzle that are giving us major heart eyes. From the lining of the invitations with a sketch of the balcony that the Groom proposed on in Barcelona (props to A+P Design Co.) to the al fresco feast for the eyes designed and coordinated by Honeycomb Affair; it’s all so, so good. Kristina Adams captured it all and our Vault is where the beauty begins!

From Honeycomb Affair…. It was such an incredible honor and joy to work with Genevieve and Thomas to create an extraordinary wedding day that they called perfect! I met Genevieve and Thomas almost nine years ago while we were attending Loyola Marymount University. I have had the privilege to witness the wonder of their love story unfolding over the years.

Genevieve and Thomas had a vision to create a timeless and elegant garden soiree that was both fun and memorable for their guests. The ceremony was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Pasadena and the reception took place at a private estate in Sherman Oaks, California. The Bride wore a beautiful Watters Gown and the Groom was in a custom Franc Milton Tux, which included their wedding date sewn into the jacket lining.

From the time Thomas proposed in Barcelona to the wedding day, the couple was mindful of all the details that went into creating this celebration. The couple arrived at the reception in a classic red 1964 Cadillac, that belonged to the Bride’s grandfather. The lining of their invitation suite included a sketch of the balcony that the Groom proposed on in Barcelona. The Groom built custom wood signs that were adorned with delicate calligraphy by Alley and Co., and the couple built a wood bench that they had guests sign for their new home!

However, the most important part of the couple’s wedding day was sharing it with family and friends. The couple wanted to create a space that invited their guests to enjoy warm conversation and a night of dancing! We created an intimate space with twinkling market lights, candlelight and garden inspired floral arrangements. The couple selected a soft color palette of whites, blush and greens with subtle gold accents. The night included a live band, heart felt toasts, a special father-daughter dance and ended with lots of dancing. It was a delight to work with Genevieve and Thomas throughout this process and to have Kristina Adams Photography there to capture the many special moments.

This Might Be the Coolest Office Space We’ve Ever Seen. No, it Is

Can we live here? Please? Giving the Create + Cultivate Head Quarters a cool, luxurious vibe is one way to make sure people are paying attention to your mission. And it’s a mission worth paying attention to. Inspired by the brand’s work and their ability to understand beauty, Veronica Valencia hand-crafted a creative mecca for a business that empowers female entrepreneurs. We like it. A lot. See all the beautiful wallpaper and brass moments captured by Love Ala  right here in the VAULT.

I have been a friend of Jaclyn Johnson and the Create + Cultivate ladies for quite a few years and when Jackie approached me to design their new headquarters it was an immediate YES! I have always been such an admirer of their company.

Their mission is such an inspiring movement for female entrepreneurs. So when given the opportunity to give back through creating an inspiring space for these kick ass women, it was a no brainer!

For starters, Create + Cultivate understands the importance of creating instagrammable moments. When pulling inspiration, I reflected on the events they put on throughout the year and looked to the imagery they had captured to build an idea of how to approach the project.

Finding the perfect bold wallpaper was key! I have been wanting to use the moody floral paper from Ellie Cashman for quite some time and I was extremely pleased with how everything turned out. Their space in Atwater has incredible lighting, it’s a 3 story industrial loft with a large roof top.

Making the headquarters feel inviting for guests was important to the C + C team. Between all of the vendors and partners Jaclyn and myself brought on board, I am extremely pleased with the final product.

In regards to the spaces I designed, I was responsible for the main office, Jacyln’s office, the Guest Room (for out of towners) and the rooftop for parties and events.

Incorporating live plants was INTEGRAL for the design of the loft. With such a large space, incorporating oversized palms and cacti, especially in such a modern industrial setting, truly helped soften the edges in the space.

All of our furniture was from CB2, Shop Candelabra and High Fashion Home, keeping them all modern and in the same color palette, with black, white and brass accents was also important. Especially when the backdrop of the room was as bold as we went with the wallpaper from Ellie Cashman and Anewall.

In office spaces, I love to use dining and living room furniture. Office furniture can sometimes be a bit small in scale for these areas. Using larger pieces that could be carried into other rooms was an extra bonus. For example, instead of a desk, I used a dining room table, her guest chairs are dining room chairs and her office storage is a entertainment console.

Your office environment is so important, especially when you are a creative. Being able to bring in elements that would provide that extra push was important. The cherry on top of the cake was all of the oversized prints from Artfully Walls and Framebridge of various women we hung throughout the loft. I felt it was a perfect way to capture what the company has set out to do… Promote women on a large scale.

Utterly Romantic Ballroom Wedding at the St. Regis

Eleni and Brett’s 12-year love story deserved a wedding day of epic proportions. And thanks to a vendor crew including A. Dominick Events and Edge Flowers, that’s exactly what they got. Bonnie Sen photographed their perfectly classic celebration at the St. Regis and the bride’s most memorable moment of the evening included asking her new husband how much time they had left of the perfect day. “Without pause, he replied, all the time in the world.”

“I turned to my husband and asked how much time do we have left?

Without pause, he replied, all the time in the world.

-Eleni, The Bride

From the Bride…When you’ve been together with someone for twelve years, marrying your best friend and planing your dream wedding is pretty easy and really fun.

Our wedding day was exactly what we wanted and hoped it would be. The love, kindness, and company of our family and close friends made the weekend truly special and unforgettable. We started the wedding celebrations with an intimate rehearsal dinner at a Greek restaurant followed by a roof deck welcome cocktail party for all of the out of town guests. We cherished every moment of that weekend including getting to spend as much time as possible with the people we love. Our guests made the trip from all over the country; the farthest distance traveled was my family from Greece. My Godfather, who traveled from Patras, Greece, married us. We were the first couple that he ever married and didn’t rehearse a single line with him. His script and performance were both charming and heartfelt.

While most of the month was unusually rainy, our wedding day had pristine weather. Luckily we were able to enjoy the hotel’s beautiful courtyard for our wedding ceremony which was perfect for our adorable flower girl, Olive, who ran down the ceremony isle barefoot wearing a flower crown. Our Dad’s and my brother gave beautiful wedding toasts that left guests in tears. Family and friends danced the night away to our favorite tunes taking breaks to pose for the photo booth and snacking on passed donuts and treats from the candy bar.

At the last minute we decided to do a sweetheart table so that we could share our first meal as husband and wife, but also so that we could cherish a room filled with those we love the most. Time truly flies on your wedding day.

My most memorable moment of the wedding was when we were sitting at our sweetheart table sometime after dinner and before dancing. I turned to my husband, Brett, and asked how much time do we have left? Without pause, he replied, all the time in the world.

A Glamping Inspo Sesh with a Sweet Side of Boho

There’s glamping… and then there’s this glamping inspiration sesh with a big ol’ side of wedding.  Think a talented team of vendors, a totally unique + unbelievable pretty theme and boho details aplenty and you are sooo on the right track.  From the stunning Firelight Camps locale to the beautiful blooms from Stacy K Floral to gorgeous captures from Alexandra Elise Photography, you’ll be pinning your hearts out (trust us) right here in THE VAULT.

From Stacy K Floral… What a gem that the Finger Lakes has a wonderful location in the heart of Ithaca. This Firelight Camps styled shoot was shot entirely on medium format film which helps to give it that dreamy enchanting look by Alexandra Elise Photography. The creative collaboration was inspired by the hand painted silk scarves and skirts designed by Louelle Design Studio. The color and patterns custom created for the bride and bridesmaids inspired the color scheme.

Firelight Camps was the perfect setting for the organic feel we were striving for to highlight these skirt designs. The invitations rested perfectly upon the Petunia Rose china. Coral peonies, king proteas, and textural greens and blooms helped highlight all of the other amazing creations. The final piece to really bring it all together was the New Mexican turquoise heirloom jewelry.

We started our shoot with an intimate tablescape off the back deck with gorgeous natural light illuminating the entire area. Then we walked out back to the Buttermilk Falls trail to continue our shoot in the lush greenery. There is such a sense of calm at Firelight with the crackling of the fire and the birds chirping. What better way to celebrate your wedding than at a glamping destination in the Finger Lakes where you can have your ceremony & reception right on-site– minutes from Buttermilk Falls– and also have your closest family and friends stay on site to continue the celebration!

From The Bride…Caleb and I met when I started working at the hospital he had worked at for about seven years. Caleb led the tour of the hospital during orientation and if I’m being honest, I paid more attention to how cute Caleb was than the various stops along the tour. About five months later, Caleb and I started dating and we both quickly knew that we’d found the person we were going to marry.

Caleb and I actually picked the venue and date for our wedding before we were engaged. As someone who plans events for a living, I knew that wedding venues book quickly and I didn’t want to waste any time. After looking at a few venues, Caleb and I happened upon Desert Foothills while looking at The Knot’s “Real Weddings.” I immediately made an appointment for Caleb and I to see the space and upon walking into the completely bare barn that is Desert Foothills, I knew this was where we were going to get married.

Because Desert Foothills is a completely open space in which you can pretty much do anything, I knew we would need a lot of help! Caleb and I chose to work with Rachael Dufresne of Imoni Events to plan our wedding and it was by far the best decision we made during the entire wedding planning process. Rachael had an amazing ability to take all our ideas and turn them into reality. Rachael took our love of wine and created a winery themed wedding that took me right to our favorite wineries in Napa. I truly felt as though Caleb and I had our dream wedding and I can’t be more grateful to Rachael and our long list of vendors for their hard work and creativity to make us feel so special.

One thing I learned during the wedding planning process was the power of meeting with vendors before choosing to work with them. I fell in love with two photographers solely based on the work on their websites. After meeting with both photographers in person, I knew that Rachel Solomon would be the photographer for our wedding. I absolutely loved her work but most importantly I “clicked” with her and felt comfortable with her capturing the most important day of my life. After learning this lesson with picking our photographer, I kept that in mind as we continued to choose other vendors for our wedding.

The day of our wedding came faster and faster as each month and week passed by. It was a beautiful morning and I couldn’t have been happier when I woke up to blue skies and sunshine. However, as the bridesmaids and I were getting our hair and makeup done by Emily Hughes and Brenna Heater, gray clouds started rolling in. As Caleb and I began to do our First Look, the wind picked up and little droplets of rain began to fall on my shoulders. This certainly could have taken a turn for the worse but I actually grew to love this wind and rain. To me, this signified that we could withstand the rough winds that will inevitably come our way throughout our life together. Although it sounds cheesy, I like to think that those were the first rough winds of our marriage, probably the easiest winds we will experience, but we did it. And, not to mention those winds made for some amazing pictures!

After taking pictures outside the venue, Caleb and I walked into the barn for the first time and I was completely awe struck by how beautifully everything had come together. Our colors, gold, blush, cream and a hint of navy, blended beautifully from the navy ribbon on the bridesmaids’ bouquets to the cream and blush flowers draping over the wine barrels at the front of the aisle. Randi of Carte Blanche Floral took what little vision I had for our flowers and created a beautiful backdrop for our wedding. Randi even built a cross for the altar and a wine rack that we will place in the foyer of our first home. The linens from La Tavola brought the room together while the round Kings tables kept that rustic and elegant atmosphere we were wanting to share with our families and friends.

Our wedding featured delicious food from Dennis at Cater Phoenix. Dennis worked with Caleb and I to create stations with some of our favorite foods: mac and cheese, tacos, and onion rings! Our cake from Heartsweet Cakes was devoured in minutes and I can certainly understand why as Hayley’s bourbon chocolate cake is something you only get once in a lifetime!

Finally, the beauty is in the small details and I couldn’t have been more amazed by the work of Jacki from Foil and Ink and Jesse Jo Stanton at Freed Hands for creating our invitations and day of paper products respectively. Jacki certainly had Caleb’s stamp of approval as she was able to include the one thing he wanted most, a wax seal. He was more than happy to help address invitations if it meant being able to use the wax seal!

Looking back, I can truly say that our wedding was so much more than we had envisioned. I am overcome with a sense of immense gratitude for the vendors, family and friends that put in so much work and love to make this day special for Caleb and I. We certainly could not have done this alone and they truly deserve all the credit.

She Wrote a Year-Long Journal to Surprise Her Groom on Their Wedding Day

Every day for a year Valerie wrote a letter for her love, Michael. Come wedding day he got the romantic surprise of his life with a leather bound journal containing 365 pages filled with beautiful words from his bride. Luckily Pat Moyer came along to photograph and we’re thanking our lucky stars to share their incredible love story on our pages.

“My goal was for it to be a source and constant reminder of

why I love him so that even on our hard days he will always

have 365 reasons why I love the man who he is.”

-Valerie, The Bride

From Patrick Moyer PhotographyOne year before the wedding. Valerie began writing a journal for Michael to open on their wedding day. For each day of the year leading up to the big day, Valerie wrote one page for him to read and had it bound with his initials burnt into the leather.

From The Bride…After Five years dating, Michael took me on a surprise “birthday trip” to Belize. While on the beach he asked me to be forever his.

In each new entry I wrote about a reason I love him, my hopes for the future, I documented the milestones in our engagement, and reflected on marriage and scripture passages. My goal was for it to be a source and constant reminder of why I love him so that even on our hard days he will always have 365 reasons why I love the man who he is.
