From Tamara Gruner PhotographyLavender inspiration: What can be more beautiful than getting married in Provence during the lavender season? An after-wedding session with just the two of you in the lavender fields! We started this after-wedding session at the beautiful La Coquillade with all its little romantic nooks. The blooming roses complement the beauty of our couple. The wind adds a romantic touch to this session – flowing hair and a flowing gown – a girl’s dream come true. From La Couqillade we headed to the lavender fields of famous Luberon in Provence. There, our couple strolled through the fields with the sun shining on their skin and warming them on a wonderful June day. We are in love with this couple showing their love for each other. We can’t take our eyes of them – the bride in her beautiful Musat Bridal gown – a romantic lace fabric combination, which complements the bride’s beauty. Our bride is playing with her dress and the wind in the lavender fields, which make for absolutely stunning moments. And the groom? No words for him!

The Couple’s Pups Took Part in the Engagement Session

We’re seeing more and more couples include their fur babies in the engagement shoot, and it’s a trend I can totally get behind. Megan and Chad planned exactly that for their session in Chicago and Emilia Jane photographed all the fun. More this way!

From Emilia JaneI love that more and more of my couples are opting to do multi-part engagement sessions! Megan and Chad are a perfect recent example of this. We woke up early to do a sunrise, riverwalk shoot with their adorable pups on Wednesday and then shot their formal save-the-date’s during golden hour on Thursday.

A Parisienne Inspired Brunch Wedding

If you were to get together and create a wedding based around all of my favorite things, this would be it. First off, it’s a brunch wedding (I mean, who doesn’t love that). Secondly, it’s Parisian themed and totally perfect. Complete with Silverplate Press stationery and some of the sweetest snapshots from Ashley Bosnick Photography, we’ve got every bit of this beauty waiting for you in The Vault!

From the Bride…We’re so happy with how everything turned out! When you plan most of your wedding yourself, it’s difficult (and very stressful!) to visualize how everything will look on the big day. The design inspiration we went for came really naturally to us, as they were all elements that we already loved. We went with a very organic, Parisienne theme with a modern twist. Naturally, fresh flowers and greenery were must haves. The French blue and white color palette at Colette Grande Café made it the perfect venue to tie everything together. We chose the breathtaking Toronto cityscape view from the Rooftop Lounge at Thompson Hotel to give our atmosphere a modern touch. I love crafting so including some DIYs was a great way for me to contribute personally to the décor. We created DIY himmelis and succulent shot glasses for the tables to complement the modern theme. We also scattered geometric photo frames with important memories, such as our Malibu engagement and parents’ marriages from decades ago, throughout the venue. What made our day extra special was how much love we felt from everyone. Despite not having a bridal party, we received so much help and support from our family and friends, and that meant everything to us!

From Tamara Gruner PhotographyWedding inspiration: Inspired by the soft color palette of Provence we chose ivory, green, blush and peach as our main colors for this soft and romantic wedding inspiration shoot. Our venue, La Coquillade, with its beautiful and romantic nooks in every corner, was the perfect setting for this Provencal wedding. The ceremony, nestled in the midst of a blooming lavender field and olive trees, was the perfect backdrop for our pretty couple. The bride’s dress, a Musat Bridal gown, with fine lace elements and a romantic fabric – flowing with the wind – makes our dream look complete. The bride’s classic updo and her beautiful jewelry complements the bride’s delicate face. The groom in his elegant black tux presents himself as Prince Charming. The cake and invitation suite adds a classy touch to the whole inspiration. The pretty table setup, with the soft flowers and classic tabletop with its typical Provencal candle holders, continues our romantic look and feel. The table overlooks the mesmerizing Provencal vineyards – the perfect location to bring a perfect day to a close.

Bridal Beauty 101: Finding That Perfect Style for Your Gown

You’ve found that dress of your dreams and now it’s time to focus on putting the entire look together with hair and makeup.  Need help? Well, we’ve got you covered, because today we’re joining forces with Jennie Kay for a quick run-down on all things beauty with tips + tricks on achieving that glam wedding day look, no matter the gown or style you’re dreaming of. Let’s get started.

LOOK 1: CASUAL GLAMOUR

Your style? Laid-back with a big ol’ side of sophistication. Which means rocking a stunning gown that shows some skin and hair + make-up that is just as sleek and glamorous. Jennie Kay suggests pairing your dream dress with a rope braid pony or soft low bun that is dressy enough for a wedding, but is also completely effortless.

LOOK 2: VINTAGE ELEGANCE

You’re a vintage-inspired lady looking to rock that elegant lace number, but still maintain a modern, yet sexy edge. Jennie Kay’s tip? A bright red lip for that much-needed side of sophistication and a stunning updo that frames one side of the face, plus sweeps across the back in a beautiful style that is reminiscent of the past.

“Look at the way you wore your hair at your initial dress fitting. It usually mimics your initial idea on how your hair should be.” – Jennie Kay Beauty

LOOK 3: BOHO BEAUTY

Crave a look that is soft, romantic and free, just like you and your wedding? Then this fab boho look from Jennie Kay Beauty is sooo for you. Simply keep your hair natural in wave and texture and add three gorgeous braids for a little pop of WOW.  Want to add a little glamour to the look? Really make those eyes stand out with just the right shade of shadow and mascara.

LOOK 4: SWEETLY CLASSIC

For those of you who want to keep it sweet + classic on the Big Day, Jennie Kay suggests a low twisted ponytail that is equal parts show-stopping and wholesome. Pair it with subtle makeup (like a light pink lip) and a gown that has just a pop of sass and the results are absolutely timeless.

LOOK 5: TOUSLED SOPHISTICATION

Waves are a girl’s best friend and when it comes to a wedding day look that is equal parts laid-back and sophisticated, Jennie Kay keeps those tousled waves down with just a few sweet strands pulled back for a look that is all sorts of romantic. Add some soft pink lips and some barely-there makeup to complete the look.

Natural + Airy Wedding with a Timeless Design

Let’s face it, when a wedding photographer gets married it’s going to be so very good. They’ve inherently got an eye for design with focus on the details, and that was exactly the case for Megan and Johnathan’s nuptials captured by Kayla Yestal and Videos by Janet. No surprise, Megan made certain their portrait session stole the show including linen signage to show off their new status as Mr and Mrs.

From Kayla YestalEvery time I think back to Megan and Johnathan’s wedding day, my whole face just immediately lights up. Megan, who is the incredible photographer behind Megan Laura Photography, had such a clear vision for her wedding day, and teamed up alongside one of her best friends, Lauren from Flourish Calligraphy, in order to bring her dreams to life.

The resulting day was the epitome of timelessness. Every single choice she made had so much thought and intention, from the venue, which was her family home in Southern Ontario, down to the smallest details on her invitation suite, complete with a freehand sketch of the property. Lauren was able to make absolutely everything cohesive by creating unique calligraphed details that were placed perfectly throughout the property. The entrances to the home and the ceremony site were lined with linen welcome signs, which perfectly matched the programs that were individually bound together with Poetry of Silk ribbon. Resting stations with wooden benches could be found surrounding the ceremony and reception areas, with baskets full of blankets adorned with “cozy up” signs. Megan and Johnny even carried a stunning linen “Mr and Mrs Bialas” sign during their portrait time, that they now have with them in their new home together.

Beyond the incredible details, Megan and Johnny’s wedding day was purely focused on bringing together family and friends in a way that was so personal to them. Since most of Megan’s family was flying in for the wedding from England, it was really important to them that they could spend as much time together, and less time traveling to different locations. For that reason, all of the wedding day events took place on the property, with the couple only venturing off as far as down the street to have their portrait session on a family friends apple orchard.

My absolute favorite part of the day was when Megan looked down to the ground at the end of their portraits, kneeled for a moment, and popped back up with a perfect four leafed clover and the biggest grin I had ever seen. It was the perfect way to sum up such a magical day, and to really start the celebrations for the rest of the evening.

From the bride… Johnathan and I knew from a very early stage that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. We knew each other had something that we’ve each been looking for. We believe God blessed both of our paths in life to collide together. We are so thankful to everyone who made our wedding day possible!

Being a Wedding Photographer myself, I have witnessed many gorgeous weddings, but wanted to make sure ours wasn’t like anything I’ve seen before. I wanted ours to be a true celebration of us, both with sentimental details and a beautiful, natural aesthetic and atmosphere.

One thing I knew for certain, was that it felt right to be married at my family home. We moved around a lot while I was growing up, as my parents loved to buy and flip houses. This house, however, became our home – and my family has created roots and a beautiful life here over the past 10 years. This made it that much more meaningful for us to get married on the breathtaking grounds that I could truly call my home.

I knew in order to ensure my vision would come to life properly, I had to team up with the right vendors. A big thank you to the team of friends and vendors who brought my vision to life – it couldn’t have been more perfect!

My original background before becoming a Fine Art Photographer, was in design – so beautiful calligraphic and designed components were a must for me! Luckily, one of my dear friends, Lauren of Flourish Calligraphy, brought all of my dreams to life with all of the custom details she created for our day.

We had a custom sketch of our home gracing the front of our handmade paper invitations that really set the tone for each of our guests. There was an overall theme of ‘botanicals’ that was carried through from the table numbers that sat atop each table, all the way through the rose imprint that was sealed with gold wax on the back of each envelope that was mailed out. The abundance of natural garden-style flowers also played into our theme and really reinforced the beautiful, natural atmosphere that I really wanted to create.

Our alter was hand crafted by my talented father – I couldn’t have been more proud to stand under his work as I married my best friend. The cross adorned with greenery that stood behind the signing table was also made by my father, and it was the perfect symbol to signify our faith as we signed our names and made our marriage concrete. During this time we heard my long time family friend sing the Lords praises. Our ceremony was truly amazing. To top it off we exchanged our own written vows to each other and there wasn’t a dry eye around! After the ceremony we had benches set up all around the grounds with blankets and pillows with signs allowing the guests to “stay cozy” along with fun games including bocce ball and crocket.

I originally wanted the reception to be completely outside, but I knew with Southern Ontario good weather isn’t always certain. I opted for a clear tent, thus still giving the effect of being under the stars and surrounded by beautiful tall trees. We hung cafe lights and chandeliers adorned with greenery, creating a setting unlike anything I’ve experienced before. It was described as magical from many of our guests!

A final thank you is in order for my wonderful photographer and friend, Kayla Yestal, who captured all of these sweet memories so beautifully – we will forever be grateful!

Remembering and writing about our day reminds me how blessed I am to have been able to marry my best friend in front of our family and friends in the place where I call my home.

A Wedding Every Southern Bride Needs to See

Simply put, this wedding is the epitome of Southern elegance. It’s a day steeped in faith, family, and tradition with details like a custom crest designed by Lemontree Calligraphy & Illustration and a live painter at the ceremony to capture the scene. A Charleston Bride planned Morgan and Daniel’s celebration and the incredible Simply Sarah Photography is to thank for every last photo.

From the Bride…I transferred schools my sophomore year of high school, and as I was walking out to the carpool line the first day, I saw the most handsome boy standing outside waiting on his mom. I hopped straight in the car and told my mom I had just seen “THE cutest boy alive,” and searched for him all night on Facebook and found nothing. The next day, I told my only friend at school I had at the time about the boy I had seen the day before but I didn’t have enough details for her to know exactly who it was. Embarrassingly I have to admit we decided his nickname would just be “baby” (he had a baby face) until I could figure out his name. She finally figured out who I was talking about and she told me that “baby” was Daniel Fields and he was a freshman.

I sent the text and he responded and really from that point forward the conversation never stopped. We talked all summer long and would ask each other every question in the book. I finally mustered up the courage to ask him to go out to eat with my family and our best family friends and he agreed. After that first night of hanging out we practically hung out every single day after and were absolutely obsessed with each other. We became each other’s best friend and truly were a part of one another’s families.

We dated for two years, and then it was time for me to go off to college. Much to my dismay, we decided that we needed to break up and have time to really mature and take advantage of all the opportunities we could without always basing our decisions on one another. It absolutely crushed me, but I knew if it was meant to be the Lord would find even the craziest way to bring us back together and He most certainly did. We decided to start dating again and it honestly felt like nothing had ever changed. Of course we were much more mature than we were in high school, but it was just like it was always meant to be. Immediately, we were one another’s best friend again and we didn’t do anything without the other. Our families were overjoyed and we were one big happy family all over again.

Really, our wedding day was everything I could have ever dreamed of and more. All of the details we planned beforehand made me so incredibly anxious for the big day and when I saw them in person it was like a real-life fairy tale come true.

As special as all of the moments were, nothing was sweeter than standing at the top of the aisle, connecting eyes for the first time that day with my groom, and seeing all of our family and closest friends standing there to witness our marriage. Knowing that each of our guests traveled all the way to Charleston to celebrate with us was overwhelmingly touching, but even more so knowing that each of those people has greatly encouraged, supported, prayed for, loved, and mentored Daniel and me was an indescribable feeling. From the start of the planning process, we committed to making our wedding day a gift for our guests as much as it was a celebration for us, so to see the smiles on their faces the whole night was absolutely priceless!

The Dreamiest Desert Engagement Session

Can we please have an in-depth discussion about how incredibly BEAUTIFUL this engagement session is?! Captured by Kyle John Photography, it’s Joshua Tree like you’ve never seen it before. From the sweetest (and coolest) couple we’ve ever seen, it’s all waiting for you to fall madly in love with via The Vault!

From Linn PettersonWe were road-tripping through California, when Jessica and Daniel flew out to meet us at Joshua Tree. None of us had been there before, so we were astounded by the breathtaking beauty we found in this otherworldly place. The stark landscape, with crumbling boulders, and cacti stretching toward the harsh sun, was so extraordinary and provided a complimentary backdrop for the genuine tenderness Jessica and Daniel expressed toward each other throughout our session together. It was such a pleasure spending the day with this couple. Watching their playful interactions and unguarded love for one another was inspiring. At the end of the day we climbed up on top of one of the boulders and watched as the sun slowly colored the golden landscape red, then purple then pitch dark, leaving only the moon and the stars as sources of light. And feeling slightly sentimental, we headed home, thankful for the unsurpassable gift of nature, and the unassuming greatness of the love that had unfolded before our eyes.

How we met

I met Bobby years ago (he went to college with Brian , Katrina’s husband, in Boston), but we didn’t start dating until he moved into the apartment below me four years ago. We instantly grew closer and he showed me how powerful a deep love is. Life is about love and the relationships and memories we make… this is what gets us through the unknown. It frees us. We were talking about getting engaged for a year, but Bobby really wanted to surprise me. And believe me, I’m a hard one to surprise! Once he realized both of our families would also be at the Tone It Up Retreat last September (2015) , he knew it was the perfect setting at Reef Point, Laguna Beach. It’s one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been and to be able to share it with our families and community was perfect and beautiful.

Why we chose Hawaii

The Hawaiian islands have always held a special place in my heart. It was years ago that I would come visit to explore the beauty, learn to surf, and hike through a rain forest for the first time. There were a few occasions when I visited the Big Island (home of Ironman Triathlon!!) to shoot for Zoot Sports and the Triathlete Magazine Swimsuit Issue. Later, Kat and I would shoot our first two Beach Babe Workouts on the islands too! So many memories have been made there! I wanted to share the magic of the Hawaiian Islands with Bobby, so we took our first vacation together on Kauai. It was just a few months in, when I was still just dating ‘the neighbor,’ but it felt really special. It was the place where we first said ‘I love you.’ We were daydreaming at the time and told each other that if it works out and we ever get married, we’d do it here!

The Vision

We wanted our wedding to highlight the beauty of Kauai and Hanalei Bay. The colors of the wedding complemented the surroundings with blues, greens and earth tones. Decor was clean, simple and modern. We used green succulents and white linens. To add a personal touch I used one of my abstract ocean paintings as the print for the menus and place cards. Overall, the most important aspect was having an unforgettable vacation with our closest family and friends….which we did!

Highlights

Without a doubt, the highlight of the day was saying our vows (and the 6 rainbows that Hawaii blessed us with!) We chose to write our own vows, which is a big responsibility on your wedding day! Ultimately it was the best decision we could have made, and we were able to express our feelings from the heart, with a few tears. It also meant a lot that my dad played guitar and sang our first dance, and our friend Jordan T performed at the reception for our wild and fun dance party! I could go on… There were so many perfect moments!

Thoughts on planning

Since one of the goals of our destination wedding was to make it a vacation, I wanted to keep the planning as simple as possible. After all – work keeps me super busy, and it was important for me to save the time off for our honeymoon. The St. Regis made planning incredibly enjoyable, simplified and exciting. Bobby and I knew exactly what we wanted and they made it happen! From the decor to the cake, it was perfection for us!

15 Dining Rooms We Want to Host Thanksgiving In

I genuinely love hosting Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite holiday to roundup a gathering of loved ones (and not just because we get to indulge in the leftovers). Mostly because it’s a rare chance to pretty up the dining room table and pull out all the entertaining stops. And of course, the love and laughter that ensues around said table. Hosting this year, too? Here are 15 beauties to inspire your turkey day scene.

A Colorful Dusty Blue + Peach Wedding

Are you on the hunt for the hottest new color palette? Then meet what is sure to be your new favorite pairing, dusty blue and pretty peach. Captured by Michelle Boyd Photography this is one celebration at The Venue at Crooked Willow Farms that you’re sure to love. See it all in The Vault!

From the Bride’s Cousin…This celebration is particularly near and dear to my heart because the bride is my sweet cousin, Erin. Although our families have not lived in the same state for 23 years, we have remained especially close. We usually see each other at least once a year and always manage to pick up right where we left off. When Erin reached out to ask me to help plan her wedding, oh my heart–cue the waterworks. We spent the next year meticulously planning her day to be a perfect representation of her and BJ’s love story and the things they hold most dear–family, friends, and each other.

Erin and BJ met at her horse barn in the Colorado mountains, so Crooked Willow Farms (still a working farm, with horses!) was the perfect backdrop for their big day. (Literally–check out that ceremony site with the foothills in the background!) We selected a color palette of “elevated pastels” that provided a perfect, natural touch of color to the barn setting. I convinced the florist–Bristol Lane–and the photographer–Michelle Boyd–to make the trip with me to provide the gorgeous blooms and capture the day. Jessica Crowell designed the custom invitation suite and day-of paper goods, which included scenes from around the venue. (One of my favorite details!)

Better than the carefully curated details, though, was the contagious joy between Erin and BJ. They are very much in love and perfectly suited for each other. It was truly an honor to play such a special part in their day and to witness their “I do’s.” So many congratulations to the happy couple!

With Three Gowns This Gorgeous, Good Luck Picking a Favorite

It’s our lucky day; there’s not one, not two, but three gorgeous gowns included in this shoot by Christine Clark. And I’m at a loss trying to pick a favorite; it’s near impossible. Grace Loves Lace and Rue De Seine outdid themselves with these creations and Designs by Hemingway’s florals were the perfect finishing touch on the whole stunning scene. See all the beauty in our Vault right this way!

From Christine ClarkFor this inspiration shoot in Hawaii we wanted to capture a softer, more muted tropical vibe. Island style meets old world sophistication. Set at dawn, with sunrise spilling into our misty bay, we arranged an elegant tablescape overlooking the water. Designs by Hemingway created wildly romantic florals as the perfect complement to lace and silk gowns by Grace Loves Lace and Rue De Seine. Corsivo Calligraphy designed a stationery set capturing wonderfully the old world elegance envisioned. The dreamiest vintage ring from Trumpet and Horn provided the perfect detail and graceful sparkle to our vision.
