Escape to Charleston for a Summery Wedding with a Pop of Color

The pretty pink buildings of Charleston are the perfect backdrop for a Summer wedding; especially one filled with gorgeous pops of color like this inspiration masterminded by Cheers Darling Events and Lisa Zeising for Abby Jui. That color comes in the form of bright peonies, anemones and a whole wall of florals and greenery crafted by Frampton’s Flowers. See how romantic lace gowns and brightly hued southern charm can go hand in hand with even more in the vault!

Taking inspiration from the bright, light summer, we escaped to Charleston to bring pops of color and rays of gorgeous light to life. Couples from across the country (and world!) flock to Charleston, South Carolina to share southern charm, warm weather, beautiful views and amazing food with their guests from far and wide. Knowing the city, we wanted the day to feel bright and welcoming – highlighting the best elements of the Holy City. Rich green palms, white wash chairs, pops of bright, lush blooms gave life and fun to the details – reflecting the “feeling” of Charleston. To beat the heat – homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches from Swank Desserts. Frampton’s Flowers brought only the brightest of blooms – peonies, anemones and more! Only the warmest of Southern welcome’s would do for the guests – A Signature Welcome curated the most beautiful basket filled with favorites from the city – local treats, candles and more. Reflecting on the traditional, southern side of the area – we incorporated a heirloom style ring from Croghan’s and lace in the wedding gown. Charleston destination clients find the fun balance between southern charm and sassy, modern twists! We wanted to show what the Charleston bride is looking for. A mix between their true southern traditntal roots but with a little fun and sass!

This Luxe Celebration Redefines the Backyard Wedding

Let me just start by saying, this is not your average backyard wedding. Not even close. This incredible celebration was set at the bride’s family home on Salt Spring Island and included three days of food, music, drinks, and so much fun. Our favorites at French Kiss Events helped infuse the groom’s Chinese culture into the details of the day, and Erich McVey + Kismet Creative captured every moment to a T. Have a peek in the gallery for every image, including their welcome party held al fresco!

From the wedding planner… Jennifer & Alex fell in love while backpacking through Bhutan, and while they currently live in Brooklyn, chose to host their wedding on Jennifer’s parent’s property on Salt Spring Island off the coast of Vancouver in British Columbia. Friends and family flew in from all over the world to join them for this incredible wedding!

They treated their 175 guests to an incredibly sophisticated, luxurious “backyard” wedding. The colors and design we incorporated throughout the wedding were heavily influenced by Jennifer’s love of design and Alex’s Asian heritage. The Chinese symbol for marriage, Double Happiness, was the inspiration behind the eclectic paper goods designed by La Happy, and the 5-course Asian fusion menu was a modern twist on the symbolic Chinese wedding dinner, something that was incredibly important to Alex’s family. Jennifer was not shy when it came to color and we used bold, bright shades throughout the florals and linen choices.

One of the most special moments of the day had to be when Jennifer presented her Grandmother with her bouquet. The admiration and love that her families generation of women has for each other are inspiring, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the place! Another absolute must for Jennifer & Alex was live music. They absolutely love to party with their friends back in New York, so we brought an incredible band from Vancouver for the weekend to keep guests dancing well into the night.

5 Tips For Drama-Free Bridesmaid Dress Shopping

Hi everyone, Mackenzie of Design Darling here and I’m excited to share my latest post as a Style Me Pretty blogger bride! Today I’m talking about bridesmaids’ dresses and finding looks you (and your girls) will truly love. Read on for my experience at A Little Something White plus tips to make your own shopping experience go so much smoother.

From the moment I set foot in my local bridal boutique, I knew I was in the right place. First of all, the shop owner was one of the most genuinely lovely people I’ve ever met and asked all the right questions. She truly sought to understand the setting and feel of our wedding instead of immediately suggesting dresses and designers that were too formal or too trendy. When she asked if we’d thought about seersucker (given our wedding will be on Labor Day weekend, at the tail end of seersucker season), a lightbulb went off and we never looked back.

I won’t be sharing the exact style dress we wound up choosing for everyone until after our big day but the designer of the seersucker bridesmaids’ dresses is Coren Moore and conveniently A Little Something White is one of her flagship locations. Four of my bridesmaids who live in New York were able to take the train up to Connecticut and play dress-up for the day.

I wanted to share some tips learned from my experience and hope this helps take the drama out of your bridesmaid dress shopping trip, too!

[dotted]

1. Shop Around

Don’t be afraid to shop outside the box. I went to a couple big stores and found them totally disorganized and overwhelming. It was only when I found a bridal boutique right in my little hometown that I felt like we were in the right place. Shop around and find what works for you!

2. Narrow Your Styles

Have an idea of what you want before you bring in your bridesmaids. My mom and I had searched at length for seersucker bridesmaids’ dresses before finally finding the perfect style at A Little Something White. The same way it’s helpful to have an idea of how you envision your wedding dress before you try on a bunch of them in front of family and friends, it was nice that my bridesmaids only had to try on a couple styles before we found the right one.

3. Be Open to Suggestions

That said, be open to everyone’s suggestions and be mindful of their comfort level in whatever you choose. We all agreed that adding a navy silk faille sash took the look to the next level. It’s also important to find a style that will flatter every body type in your group — if you’re really struggling with this, consider multiple styles in the same color and fabric so your bridesmaids can choose the silhouette they like best.

4. Come Prepared

Ask your bridesmaids to bring a strapless bra and nude underwear. I also wish I’d asked everyone to bring a pair of heels the same height as they plan to wear with their dress (of course this depends whether you’re asking everyone to purchase the same shoes or wear their own).

5. Enjoy the Moment

Make sure this shopping trip is fun! Besides finding my own dress, this has been one of the most fun days of wedding planning so far. To have four of my favorite girls together trying on dresses for our big day made it seem so much more real! We also went out to brunch afterward so everyone could get to know each other a little better before the bachelorette party. These are the girls who will be standing by your side as you enter this next chapter of your life, so enjoy every moment you get to spend with them!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Wedding Dreams Come True

When planning an outdoor wedding, every bride’s biggest fear is rain, yet when it poured during this al fresco, autumn wedding in Sonoma Square, this bride and groom kept their cool. Their wonderful photographer, Jessamyn Harris provided the couple with clear umbrellas and captured the most darling photos of the pair, and a sweet family friend donated a tent to house the reception. Best of all, when the glowing newlyweds ventured out into the rain for sunset photos, they were treated to a double rainbow and a brilliant sunset – the perfect ending to their special day. Want more of these lovebirds? Head to the Vault to see their adorable engagement session.

From Jessamyn Harris PhotographyAllison and Marty were married on the square at the Mission San Francisco Solano in downtown Sonoma. The weather held just long enough for them to walk with their parents and siblings from Bungalows 313, the adorable hotel where they had their first look (joined by Allison’s son, Eli), to the Mission, which was built in the early 1800s. By the time we did family portraits, however, it started pouring as hard as I’ve ever seen it; but this adventurous couple wanted to do some outdoor couple shots, so we drove around Sonoma and hopped out to take pictures in vineyards despite the rain. Allison didn’t mind getting her dress wet, and I brought a pair of clear umbrellas that kept them from the worst of the rain.

The ceremony was held in the beautiful old Mission chapel, next to the tiny state park museum room that hosts tourists and schoolchildren on field trips during the week. Then the rain lightened enough for the whole party to walk the block or so to the Swiss Hotel restaurant, where the tented back patio was filled with puddles and a lot of happiness. When the forecast was for rain, and the bride and groom were concerned about adding thousands of dollars for tent rentals to their outdoor reception, a family friend who runs the Petaluma Seascouts donated the use of their tent, and all of the guests got to stay nice and dry! The guests ate a delicious, family style Italian dinner under the tent and moved inside the wine cellar for dancing and cake. They were then able to stay at the restaurant’s bar as late as they liked!

I really don’t know if I’ve seen a bride happier and more beautiful than Allison, who glowed with peace and joy despite the rain! The umbrellas give the portraits a cozy feel, and when it came time to do sunset portraits, we were blessed with a double rainbow AND a fiery sunset sky.

The couple created a beautiful wedding on a smaller budget and had a fantastic time even when the weather didn’t cooperate. They are Sonoma locals and made the wedding feel exceptionally personal (and very “Sonoma”) by using unexpected venues – a state park and a favorite restaurant.

A few special details from the day: Marty owns a home brewing supply store, so he had the florist incorporate hops into his boutonniere. Allison’s son, Eli, got ready with the men, so Marty (his new stepfather) helped him with his bow tie. Marty’s father, a woodworker, carved them a beautiful cake platter and toasting goblets for their cake cutting. The sweetest moment was when Eli broke down in joyous tears during the ceremony and snuggled into his grandmother, both of them beaming at the newlyweds.

Here’s How to DIY the Perfect Bar for Your Wedding

We happen to believe that every fabulous wedding deserves an equally as fabulous bar to match. But if you’re planning on tackling your very own celebration central, aka, DIYing your own bar, that’s a task that’s a little easier said than done. And we sooo get that. So today we’re turning to the experts at BevMo! for a little help. Think of it as your guide to a perfect DIY bar in a few easy peasy steps. See our top five below.

START WITH A SIGNATURE DRINK… OR TWO

One of the simplest + chicest ways to make a libation-infused impact on the Big Day is creating a signature drink… or two. Whether that’s a fruity vodka concoction, a tasty sangria using your fave wine or something a little more hearty (bourbon, perhaps?), there’s just no better way to cut down on alcohol costs, plus give your guests a meaningful way to celebrate. I mean, those “first date” strawberry mojitos? They need to make an appearance. And are so easy to make once you visit BevMo! for all of the tasty ingredients.

Photography: Jose Villa

STOCK THE BASICS

Signature drinks are amazing, but you should definitely keep all of the basics on hand for your nearest + dearest who like to keep things tasty and simple. Think vodka, rum, bourbon and gin, plus a handful of mixers like sodas and tonic water, so your gramps can have his whiskey on the rocks like he always does. Just be sure to contact a BevMo! Event Specialist to talk beverage calcualations and alcohol types, so you know just HOW much to buy… and what kinds. It’s an exact science, you guys.

Photography: Lindsay Madden

KEEP THE COLD ONES FLOWING

Whether you’re dancing the night away in a modern penthouse or a rustic barn in you fave country town, one thing is certain: you definitely need a few beer and cider options. That can mean lining your bar with a plethora of different choices from BevMo! (they have over 100 selections!) or choosing a keg (or two) from their awesome lineup. Either way, make sure you have the cold ones covered for those non-liquor drinkers… they’ll thank you, loves.

Photography: Sarah Kate, Photographer

CHOOSE A RED, WHITE AND SPARKLING

No party is complete without a few bottles of your fave wine and since your wedding is THE biggest party you’ll ever celebrate, choose your reds + whites carefully. Need help narrowing down the options? BevMo! can totally help with private tastings, advice on menu pairings and crazy cool discounts. Think 2-for-1 options in Washington state and 50 cent sales in California and Arizona. (Yes, you read that right.) They can even assist you with finding the perfect bottle of bubbly, because, really, you can’t have a wedding without a toast to the newlyweds with a tasty glass of champagne… or three.

Photography: Jose Villa

GET CREATIVE FOR THOSE NON-DRINKERS

Not everyone is keen on alcohol, so having some non-alcoholic beverages available for your nearest + dearest is most definitely the key to a happy wedding. And while soda and sparkling water are a great alternative to those tasty Cosmopolitans you plan on crafting up, don’t be afraid to get creative with something else your guests will love. I’m talking blackberry teas, virgin pina coladas or even yummy Shirley Temples for the littles. BevMo! even offers sparkling cider for toasting. Yum.

For cocktail ideas, complimentary delivery on orders over $500 (chilled on request!), party accessories and sooo much more, stop by a BevMo! locale to chat with an Event Specialist about DIYing that perfect bar. And be sure to check out their Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram for constant inspiration as you plan. You’ve got this, loves.

This Wedding’s Late Night Treat Will Melt Your Heart

Who doesn’t love an indulgent, late night snack when you’re dancing the night away? This classic wedding on the Beach Pavilion at Cedar Point wowed guests their delicious and thoughtful offerings. Friends and family enjoyed munching on Skyline Chili Dogs, a favorite of the bride and groom, and a sweet finish with Toft’s ice cream cart, a special tribute in memory of the bride’s grandfather who loved Toft’s ice cream. Kirkbrides Wedding Planning & Design knocked it out of the park with this celebration, and Style & Story Creative captured the whole thing. Don’t forget to press play before heading over to the gallery!

From the Mother of the Bride… Growing up on Lake Erie, we knew we HAD to have the reception on the water. The lake has been such a big part of our lives! That’s also why we rented “The Goodtime” boat in between the wedding and reception. We wanted to share our love of Lake Erie with our wedding guests. As a mother with only one daughter, the sentimental touches were important to me and made my heart overflow. The blue stemmed champagne flutes that Stephanie and Joe used for their toasts used were the same ones my husband and I used for our wedding toast 30 years ago. They also used the same cake knife and server Ron and I used. The ice cream cart in memory of Stephanie’s grandfather was one of the most precious details and still makes me smile. (Oh, how that man loved his ice cream!) So many guests loved the special tribute.

From Kirkbrides Wedding Planning & Design… July 9th 2016 was an exciting day for Kirkbrides, not only because we had an amazing wedding, but also because it was at Cedar Point! For those who don’t know, Cedar Point is on a peninsula on Lake Erie and repeatedly wins the award for roller coaster capital of the world. Stephanie and Joe chose the Cedar Point Lakeside Pavilion for their stunning 350 guest wedding reception, which was the perfect setting for Stephanie’s waterfront wedding vision.

After a beautiful catholic ceremony at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Sandusky, guests were treated to a ride on the lake on “The Goodtime,” which also provided fun for bridal party photos. Upon arrival to the evening reception, guests entered the beachfront Hotel Breakers, walked through the historic lobby (the hotel dates back to 1905), out to the boardwalk, and then down to the Lakeside Pavilion. With the pavilion having three bays, the wedding utilized two of them to create an area for cocktail hour and an area for dinner. Rock the House created two stunning spaces with white drapery, sheer enough to still expose the beautiful Lake Erie view.

In the cocktail hour bay, guests were greeted with comfortable lounge furniture and a fun black and white checkered dance floor rented from Event Source. Featured on top of the dance floor was an amazing three tier wedding cake topped with white orchids and roses created by Wendy Kromer. During cocktail hour, the Cedar Point beach was the perfect setting for Stephanie and Joe to sneak out and take a few pics with their talented photographers from Style and Story Creative. Her Monique Lhuillier gown and Swarovski jewelry was stunning against the water and sand!

Once Stephanie and Joe cut their cake, guests moved into the dinning bay. Guests were blown away to see this area full of round and rectangular dining tables with a variety of centerpieces created by Mandy from Petal Pushers. The centerpieces consisted of a variety of different gold vases filled with greens and an assortment of white flowers. Surrounding the vases were a mixture of different sized gold candles to create a unique look for each table.

As dinner came to an end, guests were welcomed back into the first bay for dancing and late night snacks. Rock the House completely transformed the space with lighting while Style and Story captured the guests having a blast! Before the night came to an end, guests enjoyed ice cream from the Toft’s ice cream cart, a nod to Stephanie’s grandfather, and Skyline Chili Dogs, a personal favorite of Stephanie and Joe’s. As guests danced the night away to the upbeat and lively Bluewater Kings band, all of the rides at Cedar Point lit up and dazzled in the summer sky. There is no other way to end a perfect summer wedding day at Cedar Point!

A Bespoke Bridal Headpiece Fit for the 20s

My favorite thing about London weddings is that they always seem to have the most incredible hair accessories, and this wedding captured by Ann-Kathrin Koch Photography is no exception! The bride worked closely with Adora Belle, a UK-based crystal accessory designer, to create a bespoke, Art Deco inspired headpiece featuring ivory pearls, silver beading, and Swarovski inlays. She looked absolutely gorgeous in her veil alternative, which complemented her 20s era aesthetic perfectly. See the whole glamorous affair here.

From the Bride… For my dress and accessories, I went with authentic 1920s – soft, classy, elegant, dazzling, beaded, ostrich feathers – inspired by Ginger Rogers’ iconic feather dress in Top Hat. I designed the headpiece with Adora Belle, a UK-based designer and embellisher. I wanted something dramatic, beautiful, and authentic – no veil needed.

The venue was a small and intimate Georgian house, the perfect size for our family and closest friends. Interestingly, the venue is also home to the Royal Society of Public Health, and I work in public health. For the color scheme we went with sapphire blue to match my sapphire engagement ring, white, black, and silver.

Our style was 1920s art deco, vintage, elegance. The wedding cake was an astonishing art deco masterpiece crafted by the groom’s mother and grandmother, who earlier in her life was a professional cake decorator and instructor. It incorporated the art deco elements of the wedding and the elegance of the location in a geometric design.

Both of us come from creative backgrounds, and Ben is also a semi-professional photographer, so we needed someone who had the skills to carry out our very clear vision when it came to the photographs. The fact that Ann-Kathrin shot on film meant she could capture the the aesthetic sympathetically without the need for excessive tweaking in post-production.

Planning might seem a nightmare, but devoting time to it is vital. We were able to relax a bit on the day because we’d done so much in the way of preparation and structured forethought. Remember to delegate the tasks but have an overall vision and direction, and all will fall into place!

Peek Inside the Color Happy Dining Room of a Fashion Blogger

That wildly on point fashion sense that Ashley Fultz of The Style Editrix has certainly shines through in her home as well. We’ve thoroughly fawned over her Closet/ Office and now we’re getting a peek at her recently designed Dining Room. It is a little bit boho, a little bit glam and all sorts of colorful. Take the full tour captured by Nina Suh right here.

From Ashley… I have been working on gathering more art and cute little details for my dining room forever. When we moved in our house a year and a half ago, we kept our same dining room table and chairs from our condo, but we knew we needed to add some life to the rather small dining room. We got a pretty new light fixture for the room, but that’s basically all we did for a year, besides paint the walls a soft blue/gray color and we got custom drapes for the room.

The next step was finding a new rug, since our old one was dated. I am obsessed with the print and colors in our new really affordable rug – and the best part is it hides everything, even Smith’s (our 16th month old baby boy) mess! After that I still had the task of figuring out what to do with the bare walls!

We had a few paintings that we picked up over the years during our travels, so we hung those as a collage on one wall, but we needed a big statement piece for the other main wall in the dining room. We found a beautiful shot of a Playa del Carmen Mexico beach, and it really finalized the room! I love staring at beautiful locations while we’re at the table.

The rest of the room is full of colorful accents and I love gold details! My whole house is glam and modern, and this room goes right along with it now. The smaller touches like this super cute bowl and runner, really make the room fun and of course we had to have a fun bar cart, because who doesn’t need one of those!

I also love filling the dining room with fresh fruit and flowers – it’s a great and inexpensive way to add color. This is a room we spend a lot of time in and we love that it gets such great light and that the palette is serene and cozy.

Since Smith has been born, we have used our dining room more than ever (we used to eat in front of the TV every night!) and we can’t wait for many more family dinners and holidays in this beautiful room now that it’s finished!

Middle School Sweethearts Tie the Knot 14 Years Later

You might recognize the bride, Emily as one-half of the Chicago blogging duo, Walton & Rush and you better believe she brought her stylish sensibilities to every detail of the big day. Emily married her middle school sweetheart, Kurt surrounded by a lush Arizona landscape for a destination wedding their guests will never forget. Andrea Leslie planned, Leslie D. Photography captured, and we’re diving into all the goods right this way.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/210894298 600 338]

This was a romantic, sweet celebration of two middle school sweethearts finally tying the knot. Emily and Kurt have been together since the 7th grade, and their wedding marked 14 years together. They currently live in Chicago, but wanted to have their wedding in Arizona – back where their relationship began. Arizona was a destination for a lot of guests, so they picked a venue that highlighted Arizona’s beautiful landscape – lined with palm trees and a gorgeous mountain backdrop.

Emily envisioned a garden theme for her wedding, with lots of greenery and lush, white floral. Her colors were dusty blue, white and gold – with lots of greenery. She wanted hints of the dusty blue color, and she incorporated it in the wedding sign, bridesmaid dresses, ribbon on invitations; even their cake was blue! To thank their guests for coming to their wedding, they kept with the Arizona theme, with blue cactus cookie favors from Ruze Cake House.

3 Simple Ways to Make Sure Your Wedding Reflects the Real You

From Jill Kelly of Jillian Joseph Photography… If you’ve been to more than a handful of weddings, either as a guest or as part of the wedding party, you can most likely predict what the wedding day timeline will be and what key events will take place and in exact order. As a wedding photographer, I can tell you that many weddings, although beautiful, could be made even better if the couple infused more personality into the one day that is designed to celebrate them as a couple. My goal is to help you discover simple ways to personalize your wedding day so it reflects the real you rather than Pinterest trends.

DESIGN YOUR WEDDING WITH YOUR 5 SENSES

SCENT – Think about what scents you’d like you and your guests to experience. Maybe it’s a particular flower that is popular during the season you had your first date, or fresh eucalyptus because it’s soothing. Scent doesn’t have to be restricted to your florals either. Don’t forget about the aroma of great entrees, a warm cappuccino bar, or the scent of cigars. What will your guests smell during your wedding celebration? Sweet Jasmine? Fresh Eucalyptus? Spicy Thai food? Is there a scent that is a trigger for a great memory you’ve shared together? Be creative.

TOUCH – You may be wondering how you could possibly incorporate a sense of touch into your wedding day, but it’s really quite easy and part of a full experience. You can add texture with bamboo chairs, wood tables, linens, a handmade cotton paper invitation suite, and even your attire.

SOUND – What is more reflective of you as a couple? An acoustic guitarist who plays while everyone mingles, a live jazz band, or maybe a rock band? Or maybe you both love the sounds of an acoustic guitar.

TASTE – It’s okay to incorporate dishes and appetizers that go beyond fish, chicken, or beef. It’s fun to include food that’s reflective of your respective cultures, or representative of the places you’ve traveled. Give your guests a great culinary experience that not only tastes amazing but also reflects some part of your relationship.

SIGHT – Where will your wedding celebration take place? For years, it was common to have your wedding in a church and a reception in a ballroom. And, yes, that’s still done and I have seen some ballrooms transformed into spaces that will leave you speechless. But I encourage you to sit down together and make a list of different locations you both feel at home in. Will you choose a venue with the view of the city, or vineyard in California, or the mountains in Colorado, or maybe in your parent’s backyard? Location definitely sets the tone for your wedding day, so don’t be afraid to consult with your planner to see if a not-so-commonly used space can be chosen for your wedding.

LOOK AT YOUR HOME DECOR

Home is where we spend much of our time. It’s often a sacred space we retreat to after a long day to relax, unwind, and entertain our friends and family in. It’s one place we can just be ourselves. Take a look around your home, or your ideal home, and observe the layout. Is it minimalistic in design with lot of open space or is it cozy with several layers and textures? What types of surfaces are in your home? Sleek chrome and tile floors or distressed wooden floors and marble counters? Your home décor is typically a good reflection of your aesthetic likes and dislikes, which makes it the perfect source for your wedding day inspiration. Consult an experienced wedding designer to help you infuse these aspects into your wedding design.

THINK ABOUT HOW YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME

How you spend your free time is an important indicator of the overall feeling you should replicate at your wedding celebration. Who says you have to have a DJ or a 7-piece band with a four-hour reception? If you and your fiancée are a bit more reserved, maybe consider having a small and intimate wedding that spans the course of a weekend where you and your guests can indulge in some of the regional attractions. For example, spend a day wine tasting and apple picking or horseback riding in the mountains. Remember that your relationship is unique and your wedding celebration should be, too. Wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful. In fact, it should be enjoyable. Don’t underestimate the value that an experienced wedding planner and designer can contribute to your overall experience. However, you chose to celebrate your marriage vows, remember to celebrate each other each and every day.

It’s 2017. In this neoteric age of Instagram and Pinterest, brides have vision boards, pins, and “MUST-haves” before even stepping foot into their first potential vendor’s door. Every bride-to-be wants her wedding to be perfect, magical, but most importantly, one of a kind. Couples are coming up with more and more ways to make their wedding stand out, reevaluating the expectation to include what is considered the “norm” and giving more creative input than ever before in every area, including music and entertainment. Here at On the Move Events and Entertainment, we believe every wedding is bespoke, we strive to make celebration dreams come true, and we are constantly acclimating to the times, so we’ve rounded up the eight most popular trends in wedding entertainment for 2017 to help inspire your big day.

Euro Flip

If you’re having a traditional sit down dinner, consider saving the dancing until after all the dining is complete (European style!) rather than dancing in-between courses.

Walk to Your Own Beat

Swap the classic strings ensemble at your ceremony for something a bit more unique to you. One of our biggest requests this year was to implement a beat to the ceremony music, so we decided to curate a brand-new group called “Pop Classical,” which features three live string pieces and a beatboxer. It has quickly become one of our most popular groups for wedding ceremonies.

Formality Shmormality

Consider nixing mid-reception traditional formalities, such as the bouquet and garter toss, cake cutting, or formal introductions if they’re not your style and replacing them with some not-so-traditional formalities. Or just more dancing.

Speech Don’t Kill My Vibe

More than ever, couples are asking their best man, MOH, parents, and whomever else is making a toast at the reception to keep their words to a minimum length as to not use up too much time in the reception or lose the energy of the party. Don’t be afraid to request your loved ones keep it “short and sweet.”

And All That Jazz… Or Not

For years, the music at a typical wedding cocktail hour consisted of a small ensemble, usually jazz or a classical genre. Often it was the reception band broken down into an acoustic duo or jazz trio. However, we’ve received so many requests this year to curate something unique for the couple’s cocktail hours, we created a small ensemble, “Hip Hop Jazz,” consisting of typical jazz instruments covering current hip-hop tunes for a modern, edgy vibe. It’s the perfect change up before heading into the reception. Don’t be afraid to pick an ensemble whose music represents you as a couple.

“I Do” It for the ‘Gram

Try out a new take on the always fun photo booth! Super popular this year have been the animated GIF booth, flip-book booth, Snapchat booth, 360 degree booth, anything involving Boomerang, and last but not least, the coveted multi-cam. Couples are even curating their own Instagram worthy setups by placing decor and backdrops in a specific area, knowing most guests have their own professional camera right in their pockets – an iPhone! Custom geo-filters for Snapchat and custom geo-tags for Instagram are also a must in 2017. How else will all the people who couldn’t make it see all of your amazing wedding details!?

I Did It My Way

In the past, a first dance was usually a meaningful ballad that the bride and groom would dance to slowly while gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes. In 2017, first dances are more innovative than ever – choreographed dances by the bride and groom, all-out performances involving the bridal party, and fully immersive, guest-involved pieces are frequent and often. Don’t believe us? One word: Youtube.

Cirque-Us

There’s a place for specialty talent at weddings now more than ever before. In the past few years, same-sex weddings have influenced this by not being so stuck on the traditional wedding components and embracing the idea of infusing more fun and entertainment into the day. Cirque performers, champagne serving aerialists, celebrity impersonators, and beautifully costumed performers to complete a specific theme are all finding their way out of the corporate industry and into the wedding industry. We recently had a stunning wedding at The Foundry in Long Island City where the entertainment was truly customized to the groom and groom’s vision. It started off with an intimate and sultry, live ensemble with a chanteuse vocalist performing interpretations of the couple’s favorite songs for the ceremony, then featured dancers dressed as peacocks during the cocktail hour, and finally, a flashmob-style performance choreographed for the couple’s first dance. To top it off, they coordinated a surprise, drag queen performance during the late night dance party!

Let us know what trends you’re thinking of implementing into your big day!

xx, Dani

5 Little Luxuries Every Mama Needs

Moms often prioritize spending for their kiddos over themselves. Your toddler might get new shoes every three months (oof, those growing feet) but you haven’t seen a trendy pair of new flats in a year! Indulge in these five little luxuries for an unexpected treat throughout your day.

A GOOD COFFEE MAKER

Coffee is life. Get a good coffee or espresso maker and kick off your morning with a fresh cup of strong coffee. Don’t forget a cute mug!

INDULGENT BUBBLE BATH

You spend plenty of time making sure the kids get a bath, so why not make one for yourself every once in a while? A 10-minute soak can help you relax from the witching hour, dinner messes and the kids’ bedtime.

FRESH FLOWERS

Fresh flowers can instantly brighten up your space. Grab a pretty mason jar and some simple blooms from the market and set them out where you can enjoy them all week.

A RELIABLE BABYSITTER

No matter your working status, you absolutely need a sitter for date night, at the very least! Plus, every mom needs some me-time, whether it’s a yoga class or a mani/pedi. Get a family member, friend or neighborhood sitter you can call and schedule a couple hours away.

A CUTE PHONE CASE

Let’s face it, your phone is your lifeline. From scheduling your day to snapping pics of your kids, your phone is out a lot — so it should look cute!

A Mother’s Day Ode to Love, Marriage & the Baby Carriage

Weddings are the heartbeat of this pretty little blog, but anytime we get the chance to celebrate the moments beyond the big day, we jump on it. Bumps, babies, and all. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we couldn’t think of a better time to watch Chris and Jenet’s love story unfold on our pages. Jose Villa has captured their life behind the lens, including their sweet growing family, and you can consider this an ode to mamas everywhere!

The Hottest Wedding of the Year – Literally!

Choosing vendors you trust is so important when planning your wedding. Not only are they responsible for bringing your vision to life, but they also keep things running smoothly the day of so you can enjoy your celebration to the fullest. Just ask this beautiful couple. They were in a long distance relationship on the East Coast while planning their California wedding, but their team of amazing vendors – including Koman Photography, Contemporary Catering, and Seniman Calligraphy – created the romantic, al fresco celebration they had envisioned. Then when a car caught on fire in the parking lot during the wedding day, the bride and groom were able to remain stress free knowing Wish Wonder Dream Event Planning was handling the situation. Guests joke the wedding was “lit” – and we have to agree. We’ve got all the pretty for you, right here.

From the Bride…Greg and I met as undergraduates during one spring semester at Cornell University. We were both Biology majors and taking many of the same classes. It turned out that we were also living in the same apartment complex at the time! He introduced himself to me in the parking lot after class one day, but I didn’t think much of it, being oblivious to the fact that we were classmates. A couple months went by until I realized that I had been ignoring him in class every day! I found him on Facebook, messaged him, and thus our relationship began. We bonded over our love of food and wine and had our first date eating our way through New York City.

Greg proposed during a vacation in Napa, one of our favorite vacation spots. We celebrated in our usual style by eating and drinking for the remainder of the trip. Greg is a PhD student who’s been living in New York City for the past few year,s and I am a veterinary student living in Raleigh, NC. Although we’ve been long distance for much of the 5+ years that we have been together, our relationship couldn’t be any stronger.

Since I am from California and we eventually want to settle down there, it only made sense to have the wedding in California. Our vision for the day was a romantic, organic vineyard setting with a touch of whimsy. When we first toured Triunfo Creek Vineyards, there was no question that this venue would fit our criteria. We chose a color palette of blush, sage green, ivory, and gold and kept the reception tables simple in order to complement the natural farmhouse feel. Despite us living in separate states from each other and from the venue, wedding planning came easy with such an amazing team of vendors. Greg and I experienced the entire day without any stress, even when a vehicle caught on fire in the parking lot, and we had to call the firefighters! Our guests like to joke that the wedding was “lit” and that it was the “hottest wedding of the year.”

Since food is so important to us, Greg and I made the menu a top priority. We had SO much fun creating a custom menu with the team from Contemporary Catering. We incorporated some of our personal favorites like French fries with curry ketchup, cheesy grits, and roasted Brussel sprouts. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the food! We also honored my Korean heritage by incorporating soju into my signature cocktail and providing Korean rice cakes as part of the dessert selection. Our guests got to take home authentic wooden spoon and chopstick sets flown personally across the Pacific by my dad!

The real star of the show was our Corgi (aka Dog of Honor), Winnie. We decided not to hire a videographer and instead put a GoPro on her using a harness. The end footage is hugely entertaining, and it still makes us smile when we watch the video! Not only did Winnie crash some of our wedding photos, many of our guests used her as a live prop for the photo booth.

Of course, the day would not have been as wonderful as it was without the family and friends who were there to join us. We were (and still are) so overwhelmed with all the love we felt that night. My advice to all future brides is to enjoy every second of your wedding day because it will go by incredibly quickly and to focus on the special moments between you and your new husband.

This Inspiration Session will Renew Your Dreams of Becoming a Greek Goddess

Book me a ticket to Santorini, because the styled shoot held at the 2016 Boheme Workshop has convinced me of its incomparable beauty. The team at Stella + Moscha drew their inspiration from the history, art, and architecture of the location, focusing on draping fabrics and creating a color palette complementary to the striking setting. Suzanne Li expertly photographed the beautiful session, so please excuse me while I spend my entire weekend in this gallery.

From Stella + MoschaWe are more than proud to present these amazing images from the 2016 Boheme Workshop that took place in Santorini – a fine art photography experience led by the award winning wedding photographer, Vasia Han, and supported by a fantastic team of young professionals that creates wonderful opportunities for fellow photographers with inspired styled shoots, classroom exercises, and Q+As by internationally renowned guest speakers.

The inspiration for this ethereal photoshoot came straight out of history: The Hellenistic Period took over the Greek art landscape between 232-150 BC. Characterized by motion and transparency in fabrics, movement, and draping effects, this luxurious and sophisticated era was evident in the architecture, paintings, and sculptures – a prime example of this being the amazing Winged Victory of Samothrace. We fell in love with the truly unique gown by Christos Costarellos, which gracefully blend his boheme style with the Grecian art, the creamy peach, blush, and ivory colors, as well as the earthy decor and stationery details, flawlessly photographed by Suzanne Li and translated beautifully the period’s features.

From Boheme Creative Director, Tahnee Sanders… Taking in the Santorini landscape, I could see these ideas everywhere; the repetition of endless white stairs, the clean lines of the Oia architecture, the patterns projected onto the washed white walls through shadow as the sun moved around the island.

A Vintage-Inspired Wedding by the River

Although Susanne and Rich currently call NYC home, they chose a wedding day away from the city bustle and said “I do” in Alexandria, Virginia. With a ceremony next to the Potomac River, their guests enjoyed the best of nature while Elisha of Love Life Images captured the entire affair behind the lens. Filled with meaningful details and vintage-chic style, this gallery is one you don’t want to miss.

From the photographer, Elisha… Susanne and Rich are one of my favorite long distance love stories. They dated for five years while they completed their residencies in different states. Finally, they chose to settle down together in the hustle and bustle of New York City. Despite choosing NYC as their home, they were so excited to come back down to be with friends and family to celebrate their special day at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia.

Susanne told me how much a wedding by the water meant to her as she always dreamed of being married on the river, and what better backdrop in the Mid-Atlantic than the Potomac! Susanne and Rich were blessed with some amazing weather on the day-of. The wind sweeping off the water and gorgeous clouds in the sky perfectly framed quite a few beautiful moments throughout the ceremony and during their portraits.

They had so many elegant and sentimental details tied into their day. Susanne was wearing her father’s family ring and had the rings of a couple of whom she and Rich admire tied into her bouquet. I just loved all the pastel colors, the vintage teapots, and their ombre cake. The day was filled with breathtaking moments and I’m so thankful that Susanne and Rich allowed me to document their special day.

For this Bride and Groom, it all Started with Ultimate Frisbee

After meeting at their college’s Ultimate Frisbee practice, it was all head over heels love and adventure for this Bride and Groom (minus a quick pit stop in the friend-zone). And that love was celebrated with a stunning Miami wedding by the sea. Crafted by RVL Event Design & Planning and Rodri Studio, it’s awash with classic details in the prettiest lavender shades. Pore through all the breathtaking ocean views and classic details behind this day so beautifully captured by Simply Sarah Photography, plus even more right here.

From the Bride… Joe, my now husband, and I have traveled around the world. We have been to Brazil, Morocco, Italy, Vietnam, Spain and more. We lived in a town in Miami called Coconut Grove where we had a tiki hut in our backyard. We have adopted pets together; I came into the relationship with a hedgehog, Charlie, and we adopted a beagle named Rosie and a fish too. But before all our grand adventures, first came a Frisbee.

Joe and I met at ultimate Frisbee practice in 2009 at the University of Miami, where we were both students. It was casual friendship at first sight. We shared many mutual friends, attended the same parties and played in Frisbee tournaments as far away as Las Vegas together without knowing what was in store. Even after our respective graduations (his in 2009 and mine in 2011), we continued to hang out as friends as we began our careers in Miami. We went on our first date in April 2012 and have had non-stop fun ever since. Falling in love with Joe was the easiest thing I ever did, which was helpful when we had to uproot our lives and move to New Jersey in 2015 for Joe’s career. When the time came to say goodbye to our Miami friends, we knew we had to do so in a big way. While running around getting ready for the going away party, Joe asked me to come help him with something in our backyard. Underneath the mango trees and next to our tiki hut, Joe asked me to marry him – or at least I think he did, because I immediately started crying after he got down on one knee. I couldn’t have dreamed up a more special and happier way to end our time in Miami. Miami was a natural choice for our wedding. It’s the city where we met and grew as a couple. Also, since I grew up in Detroit, MI and Joe in Fairfield, CT, our family and friends are geographically scattered. After about 10 months of long distance planning (shoutout to Ilse from RVL Events for making this possible), our hard work came to fruition. Our wedding day was a whirlwind and I couldn’t possibly choose just one favorite memory. Aside from getting to marry the love of my life, several standout moments include: a group of manatees hanging out in the water during our ceremony, the touching speeches given by Joe’s parents, doing the Jewish hora at the reception, and dancing with all of my friends and family who traveled from all around the US and even Europe to celebrate with us. I’ve never felt so loved as I did on that day and I will carry that feeling with me for the rest of my life! My biggest piece of advice to brides and grooms who are planning a wedding: don’t feel pressured to do every ‘wedding’ tradition under the sun – choose the ones that are special and fun for you. We skipped several traditions like bouquet/garter tosses and cake cutting, but the parent dances and hora were a must! At the end of the day, do what feels right for you both. Also, if you can afford it, hire a planner or at the very least a day-of coordinator. I would have lost it if I had to do all the last minute planning/confirming/coordinating myself and I was so thankful that on the day of the wedding, my only job was to have fun and let my planner, Ilse, know what Joe and I wanted to drink.

I would highly, highly recommend my photographer, Simply Sarah. I was very nervous choosing a photographer sight unseen and I was even more nervous that the first time meeting her would be on our wedding day. However, my fears were totally unfounded and after 15 minutes with Sarah and her husband — I felt like I knew them my whole life! They were professional but still very fun and easy going. She got our photos back very quickly, so we were able to look through them and reminisce about the best day of our lives while we were on our honeymoon!

From Brklyn View PhotographyFrom the very first moment Jessica met John, she knew he was the one. They met at a small bistro in Brooklyn Heights and quickly became exclusive. During their courtship, they spent a lot of time in Montauk, so when John proposed, they knew they wanted to celebrate their marriage in their favorite place in New York. The couple chose the stunning Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina for their nautical chic inspired wedding.

Jessica wore the most delicate and detailed Monique Lhuillier wedding dress I have ever seen. The intricate layers of tulle, lace, and silk fit her like a glove. She wore cream colored, crystal encrusted Manolo Blahnik shoes and carried her grandmother’s beaded clutch for her something borrowed. The couple prayed for good weather, and the heaven’s did not disappoint. Crystal clear blue skies and bright sun shined throughout their wedding day, which was the picture perfect backdrop for their outside ceremony. Jessica was moved to tears while reciting her wedding vows and John looked on with pure happiness that he was becoming her husband.

All Who Wander Events coordinated and designed their wedding, creating a seamless flow between events. Ava Flora created stunning wedding flowers for the entire wedding party, ceremony space, and reception. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a sunset cocktail hour outside on the lawn overlooking the water before heading into the Farm Ballroom for the reception. The East Coast Band brought the house down! Every single person danced on the dance floor, and the Bride and Groom were having so much fun that they didn’t want the night to end! I’m so honored and delighted to have been part of Jessica and John’s wedding day. I knew from the moment we met, I wanted to be their wedding photographer, and I’m thrilled to call them friends. Congratulations!
