A Hudson Valley Summertime Soirée

Lush gardens, an antique barn, and a tent for dinner and dancing in the meadow. These words from the bride are the best way to describe this Hudson Valley wedding set in the peak of summertime. With the help of professionals like Main Course Catering and Ulysses Photography, the couple crafted a day that showcased the beauty of the outdoors, and you can see it all right here.

From the bride… Creating the ultimate Hudson Valley summer outdoor wedding was my dreamscape for our celebration! Lush gardens, an antique barn and a tent for dinner and dancing in the meadow…this was my midsummer night’s vision for the evening I wed my husband! Barncroft is my parent’s property. I grew up there and it exemplifies everything I love about Hudson Valley summertime. Sharing my love of this sense of place to guests was important to me.

Bold, bright and beautiful was our color palate – hot pink, champagne rose and deep purple against ivory and verdant neutrals! I designed my bridal bouquet with hot pink local dahlias and roses, champagne rose ranunculus and hypericum berries with accents of deep purple veronica.

My gown, an asymmetrical masterpiece was layered with lace and other light fabrics. The waist was lined in lace and a single band of ribbon. I really owe Erika of Be Unique Boutique a huge thank you for this fantastic styling! My rainbow crystal sandals were perfect for grass and walking the property. Doug wore a unique Fiji Blue 3 piece suit with a blue/light blue checked shirt – which reads as solid from afar! The bold striped tie and pocket square tied the suit and shirt colors together beautifully… not to mention his eyes! As my bridesmaids are all gorgeous and unique, I asked them to select their favorite knee-length champagne dress. Groomsmen were mailed a funny style guide I created.

My Mother is an inspired gardener and magical with flowers. Together we crafted the look of our wedding flowers. My stepdaughter Nicole and her friend Karen both lent their talent in creating centerpieces, boutonnieres, and bridesmaids bouquets. I designed all my stationery to incorporate the color palette and the theme of bright bold beautiful summertime flowers and dreamy watercolor!

Ulysses + Jenni of Ulysses Photography were an indispensable pair to have at our wedding. I learned a great lesson working with these professionals. For example, singing and playing a couple of songs could definitely be a surprise for my groom as well as the guests – but details like these have to be planned out with your vendors! These professional are here to make yours the most special event ever, so tell them everything – they love it!

If I were to have one piece of advice for future brides, it would be to be grateful to those around you who are helping you. And just having FUN is the best way to plan a beautiful, stress-free celebration!

A Majestic Garden Celebration in the Most Gorgeous San Francisco Venue

San Francisco City Hall is one of the most magical venues in all the land. The architecture and grand sweeping staircases are beyond breathtaking all on their own but when you add a team of wedding masterminds to the roster, it’s downright majestic. That team includes Laurie Arons, Honey of a Thousand Flowers, Paula LeDuc and Jose Villa just to name a few. See how they transformed this gorgeous venue — and the bride’s family home in Piedmont — into a stunning garden in the city.

From the planner… Early in their engagement, Michelle & Paul dreamed of a San Francisco City Hall ceremony, followed by a reception at her family’s home in Piedmont. But as the planning got underway, the couple had an even better idea. They switched venues, instead hosting a beautiful garden ceremony in her parents’ backyard, with the celebration to follow at San Francisco’s stately City Hall. The bride’s love of botanicals became the inspiration for the wedding design. Her sister designed the save the dates and invitations featuring hand-drawn florals. Floral designer Sarah Winward took that floral inspiration to abundance, creating a wild & romantic chuppah and free flowing bouquets for ceremony. To make room for 155 guests, we covered the family’s swimming pool and arranged the ceremony chairs on three sides for an intimate feel. Not wanting to leave that natural beauty behind when we moved to the indoor reception, Sarah’s team brought towering trees and plants into the City Hall Rotunda, with spilling centerpieces on every table. Amber Moon Design wrapped each guest’s menu in a light leaf print vellum, for another touch of greenery. But perhaps my favorite botanical influence were the escort cards — framed and pressed flowers penned with Roman numeral table numbers site by Curlicue Designs.

A Rainbow of Pastels Completely Make This Jekyll Island Wedding

When asked what color palette she wanted for her Jekyll Island wedding, this fabulous bride replied, “All of them!” The bespoke watercolor invitation suite by Momental Designs, the beautiful bridesmaids Plum Pretty Sugar robes and Amsale dresses, and the pastel florals by Garden on the Square all helped make her colorful wedding day dream a reality. The end result  – captured by Amy Arrington Photography and Imagine Video Productions  – is oh-so-pretty!

Whimsical

From the Bride… From our first few dates back in 2013, Steve and I set a tone for our lives together that we would always meet each other halfway. Our relationship was long distance in the beginning, and with us both balancing busy careers in intercollegiate athletics, we measured weeks by football and basketball games. I was living in Orlando, Florida, and Steve was living in Columbia, South Carolina. A chance encounter at a professional development conference had quickly flourished into a relationship that spanned 430 miles. In the beginning, we would take turns hopping on a plane and joining each other for a weekend. These weekends together often consisted of bringing the other person to work functions – our version of date night.

After a few months, we realized we wanted to meet each other halfway geographically. We had both heard about the Golden Isles area of Georgia and quickly started doing our research. First priority of this search was finding a pet friendly hotel and beach for Steve’s puppy, Riley. Through our research, we stumbled upon a pet friendly location called Jekyll Island. Neither of us had ever heard of this former home of America’s elite. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, this small island became the winter retreat for families that represented one sixth of the world’s wealth. Some familiar names that would bring their yachts down from the northeast or travel by railroad include the Rockefellers, Pulitzers, and Carnegies. One winter weekend, Steve, Riley, and I arrived at Jekyll Island and experienced the quiet beauty of this lovely place and learned the rich history of its club. To top it all off, the pet friendly beaches where Riley could run free for miles on end really sealed the deal. Without hesitation, we said this is where we will get married one day!

One year following our first trip to Jekyll Island, I had the opportunity to join Steve in Columbia to finally begin our lives in the same city and to see each other more than twice per month. Six months following my move, on a Saturday in July, we travelled up to Boston to see the Red Sox (Steve’s favorite team) play the Yankees. Steve proposed before boarding a boat to cruise the Boston Harbor. We could barely make it off the celebratory cruise before calling the Jekyll Island Club Hotel to book our wedding!

We knew we wanted a spring date, and with a short ten months to plan, we didn’t waste any time. We communicated what we wanted for our wedding to all of our great vendors and started the planning process. Many people would ask, “What are your colors?” I’d reply, “All the colors!” By combining my vision of all the colors and highlighting the natural beauty of Jekyll Island and the Club, our wedding evolved into everything we wanted it to be and more.

The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is a sprawling property with each building telling another story of the rich history of the turn of the nineteenth century. Steve and I chose to wed at Crane Cottage. It was built in the Italian Renaissance style for the plumbing mogul, Richard Teller Crane, Jr. The cottage features a sunken garden where Steve and I said “I do,” a reflecting pond overlooking the river where we had cocktails, a courtyard where we dined under the stars for dinner, and a living room where we finished off the night dancing before taking off in a 1969 Cadillac DeVille Convertible.

We were beyond grateful for our wonderful family, friends, and vendors that helped make our wedding the perfect day that it was. We wanted to tell a story throughout the weekend and show everyone the reasons we love and appreciate the history of Jekyll Island so much. We even offered our guests the opportunity to take the historic tour hosted by the Jekyll Island Museum to both learn and appreciate our special wedding location.

The tone was set for our wedding with the hand painted and completely custom invitations illustrating the Jekyll Island Club Hotel by Momental Designs. From the intricate flowers by Garden on the Square that were so important to me to the musical stylings of Steve’s brother, Joe, on the keyboard, our wedding truly reflected who we were as a couple. With Amy Arrington Photography behind the camera and Imagine Video Productions handling cinematography, our wedding was immaculately covered so that we can remember every detail for years to come.

I couldn’t pick a favorite moment if I tried because everything from sipping mimosas with my mom and bridesmaids to dancing the night away on the dance floor was flawless. For those searching for a one-of-a-kind destination wedding venue, look no further than the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. To say they outdid themselves would be an understatement. Steve and I were their royalty for the weekend, and even with another wedding on property, it was as if we were William and Kate. Their Southern hospitality was impeccable, and the food was quite possibly the best food I have ever experienced at a catered event. From the endless shellfish station to the customized pasta dishes, the menu and memories of the cuisine will leave us with cravings for years and years to come.

For those that are about to embark on the planning process, my advice is to tell a story about who you are as a couple or even the location you so carefully picked to wed, pick vendors that you trust and work well with, and just enjoy the process. What every former bride says is true – time flies when you’re having fun, and this day will flash before your eyes. Take those moments to breathe and admire the perfection that has been created to celebrate you and your new spouse. I promise it will be the best day of your life. And when the dust settles and you look back on your wedding, you’ll give anything to do it all over again. For Steve and me, we’ll always have Jekyll Island, the memories of the most perfect day, and the commitment to always meet halfway.

How to Host the Ultimate Wedding Meets Vacay

Destination weddings are amazing. And not just because you get to rush off to paradise to say “I do” with your future hubs. That part’s obviously awesome, but so is the vacation you’re taking with all of your loved ones. Not sure how to host the perfect destination soiree? We’ve got you covered. From choosing the right locale to serving up the tasty treats, we’re running down five fab steps to a crazy cool wedding meets vacay below.

CHOOSE AN AMAZING LOCALE

First thing’s first. You can’t say “I do” without a fabulous locale, so when narrowing down your options for the perfect place to celebrate, making sure your venue is one part wedding central and one part fun-filled destination is key. Think relaxing on the beach with your loved ones in Hawaii, spa days with your fiancé in Napa, soaking in the views aboard the deck of a Disney Cruise Line or saying “I do” against a castle backdrop (or overlooking a savanna of African animals!) at Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons. And that’s just a sample itinerary.

Photography: White Rabbit Photo Boutique

INVITE YOUR NEAREST + DEAREST

They say the more the merrier, and when it comes to tying the knot in paradise, that couldn’t be more true. Because, honestly, what’s more amazing than activity-filled days spent with your besties (did someone say paddle boarding?), followed by everyone you love witnessing you + yours making it official? Plus, who wouldn’t love a little fun + relaxation, all in the name of love? Answer: no one.

Photography: Jose Villa

DON’T FORGET THE WELCOME BAGS

Your guests are traveling far and wide for the big day, so making sure they are pampered for the entire wedding week/weekend is an absolute must. Start by greeting them with welcome bags that really set the tone for your event… and provide them with items that will come in handy as they navigate all of the fun. We’re talking bottled water, aspirin, sunblock and tasty treats from the area for a fabulous greeting they’ll absolutely love.

Photography: KT Merry

PLAN FUN-FILLED ACTIVITIES

Your wedding may be THE event of the weekend, but having an itinerary of fun-filled activities for all of your guests to enjoy is great, too. From surfing to sight seeing to hiking through the gorgeous scenery, you’ll want to make sure your guests are staying busy… and that goes for you, too. I mean, calming those nerves with a picnic on the beach with the one you love? We call that awesome.

Photography: Jose Villa

CELEBRATE!

The key to any great wedding + vacation? Bring those party shoes and get ready to celebrate. Whether that’s a special dinner seaside with your fiancé, toasting those you love at your welcome party or simply kicking back with a Mai Tai on the beach, truly taking the time to relax and enjoy the most important moment of your life is so, so necessary. Which is why destination weddings are just so dang fabulous… and why finding a partner like Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons is beyond important. Someone who will handle all of the little details + planning, so you can literally be a guest at your own wedding. In other words? Hosting a destination wedding is the ultimate celebration + vacay all in one. And we LOVE.

Indoor or Outdoor? This Wedding Has the Best of Both Worlds

Why choose an indoor versus outdoor wedding when you can have the best of both worlds? That’s exactly what this couple did for their California destination wedding. The ceremony took place in Wayfarers Chapel, an all-glass sanctuary surrounded by towering trees and lush gardens, and the reception at La Venta Inn, a gorgeous Spanish estate where the doors to the main dance area were open to the fresh air and guests were treated to an outdoor bar. Ryon:Lockhart Photography captured all the natural beauty – you can see it right here.

From the Bride and Groom… Ryan and I knew we always wanted somewhat of a “destination” wedding near the beautiful Pacific Coast, but the thought of planning such an event from our home base of Chicago seemed daunting. Despite this, we went to sunny California and were lucky enough to stumble upon two amazing locations: Wayfarers Chapel and La Venta Inn, both of which had our hearts instantly. After seeing Wayfarers Chapel, which shimmers in the sun on the top of one of the many rolling hills in Rancho Palos Verdes and overlooks the Pacific Ocean, we knew immediately this was the ideal location. As we worked with the chapel staff on details for the big day, everything was seamless, and the chapel met each and every one of our expectations.

For the reception, we were lucky enough to be referred to La Venta Inn, which is a lovely Spanish house with lush gardens that provides beautiful panoramic views of the South Bay and all of LA. It was the perfect setting for a part indoor part al fresco reception that blew away our guests. With the blazing fireplace and open doors in the main dance area, the amazing outdoor bar, and the overall intimacy of the space, we have continued to hear non-stop compliments from all of our friends and family in attendance.

To top it off, the local staff – from the wedding planner to the bar and serving staff – were phenomenal and truly helped our dream wedding come true. Planning from afar was seamless as we had the most amazing vendors; we couldn’t have been luckier to find the vendors we did! Ryon:Lockhart Photography not only gave us fantastic results but also was an absolute pleasure to work with, and Holly Flora put together an amazing flower design to cover our tables from end to end.

As we continue to reminisce about our wedding, we can truly say that it was the best day of our lives. We’d like to say thanks to our venues and vendors; there isn’t a single thing we would change, and we couldn’t have been happier with those that helped bring everything together.

5 Insider Tips for Styling Your Shelves Like a Designer

Shelf styling is so not as easy as it looks. I know I’ve spent countless hours making horizontal book stacks and placing vases just so in an attempt to achieve ultimate shelfie status and usually coming up a bit short. But before your shelves turn into a massive pile of trinket hoarding have a look at these easy tips from Doreen Corrigan. She is sharing the 411 on whipping those bookshelves into designer shape.

1. Use what you love

I think this is most important. What pieces do you own that have sentimental value to you and speak to you and your family? A family portrait of your great-grandparents, your child’s artwork, objects from your travels (we have driftwood from our honeymoon). Your home should be a direct reflection of you, and there’s no better place to showcase that than on your shelves!

2. Books and boxes are your friends!

Use them to achieve various heights. Grab any books you have around your home. If you aren’t happy with the colors, you’ve got a few options: you can wrap them in a white linen (available at Jo-Ann Fabrics, Michaels, etc.) paint them (chalk paint on the spines or pages works), or turn them backward so the spines aren’t facing the room. If you don’t have books around the house that suit your decorative needs, Amazon Prime is a fantastic resource for used coffee table books at amazing prices, and thrift stores are always a great place to find books. Don’t forget to incorporate books that might have sentimental meaning (combine tips 1 and 2!) – The Chicagoan book on our shelves was our wedding guest book. In regards to boxes, Joss & Main has a good selection, but you can find them anywhere that sells home decor – Pottery Barn, World Market, Hobby Lobby, etc. You might also want to peruse antique stores or estate sales – the gold boxes on our shelves are vintage jewelry boxes I found both for $10!

3. Mix old and new

I have a soft spot for vintage finds. I absolutely LOVE discovering those one-of-a-kind unique finds and either repurposing them or incorporating them into our home decor. Now not everyone is a thrifter and I totally get it, but give it a try sometime – you’ll have so much fun, I promise! There are so many amazing vintage, antique, thrift stores everywhere and the old adage “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” rings true. Like the old bass fish I spray painted metallic silver, or the most beautiful pearl inlay brass boxes I found for $7 in Michigan one weekend (then saw the same ones at Jayson Home and Garden for $40!). If you are into horns, antlers, or geodes, I’ve had really great luck finding them for very low cost at vintage stores.

4. Bring in natural objects

Orchids are great, faux or paper flowers, terrariums (check out my DIY), antlers, coral, shells, geodes… the list could go on and on. Whether it’s strategic staging of an item au naturale or a nature-inspired project (like my butterfly display case made from taxidermied butterflies I ordered from Etsy), mixing in some natural elements adds a whole new dimension to your shelves.

5. Artwork

There are sooo many amazing artists out there, the perfect painting, photo, or sculpture is just waiting for you to discover it! Etsy has always been my go-to, but I love finding artists on Instagram – that’s how I originally found and purchased a piece from Emily Jeffords, before she was picked up by Minted and West Elm (you go girl!). There might also be artists living under your very own roof!

Finn came home with the most beautiful watercolor one day from preschool and that guy went right in a frame. You don’t have to be Picasso to produce something beautiful. Photography is great too; I tend to prefer black and white when displaying with multiple objects but go with your heart.

The Bride Wore Black and Completely Pulled It Off

I’m always on board for a wedding day that breaks the mold, and this elopement photographed by Sylvie Gil does just that. Beginning with the bride’s Carolina Herrera black wedding gown, to an intimate exchange of vows at the Legion of Honor, Jessica and Ben proved that stylish weddings come in all forms and we can’t get enough.

Jessica & Ben are soulmates and childhood sweethearts – the picture of spontaneity and true love! The pair had been in love but never dated, for 22 years before they finally decided to elope at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Jessica crafted her own bouquet from her garden, did her own make and hair. The couple wore matching Louboutin shoes, and the only guests in attendance were the bride and groom’s siblings.

From the Photographer… Sharni & James married on a gorgeous summer day in NSW, Australia. They chose the lush surroundings of the 17th Hole at Bonville Golf Course as Sharni’s Grandfather was a founding member and previous owner of the prestigious club. The day was ripe with personal yet elegant touches… Sharni designed her two wedding dresses using Elie Saab fabric and also made & designed her stylish bridesmaid gowns. The groom’s sister flew in from NYC to do the wild & untamed florals that lined the ceremony aisle and set the stage for the sumptuous altar installation. Readings were done by close family member,s and the bride’s niece and nephews made sweet appearances in custom Stella McCartney outfits. The palette for the day was very understated and timeless with natural greens accenting the neutral bridal party with sky blue complimenting it all perfectly. Rolling lush hills, a quaint lake covered in lillipads and an exquisite tent set the stage for their candlelit reception dinner. Heartfelt speeches, laughter for days and a uniquely fun first dance to “All I Want for Christmas” (summer in Australia is in December, after all) made for an incredibly fun and memorable evening.

It’s All Rosé and Smiles in This Adorable DC Engagement

Much like the sweet couple, we cannot stop smiling while looking at this gallery by Elizabeth Fogarty Photography! To say Kari Rider Events created an idyllic setting for this engagement session is an understatement – just take one look at the bride-to-be’s loose waves and flowing skirt, the romantic bouquet, and the stately beauty of the DC War Memorial location. Scroll on to see it all!

From Kari Rider EventsDC residents Kathleen and Matt wanted their engagement photos to be as timeless and romantic as their planned wedding day. We kept the vibe super classic for their portraits at the DC War Memorial, a scaled down version of the Jefferson Memorial without the crowds! We let the setting take center stage, bringing in a few subtle accents like a simply styled Save the Date, a gorgeous bouquet that fit perfectly with the blush, gray, and dusty blue color palette, and, of course, a little bubbly! Everything flowed as beautifully as Kathleen’s drapey Morning Lavender skirt, and the photos by Elizabeth Fogarty were nothing short of dreamy!

Long Sleeves and Berry Hues Aren’t Just for Fall

Dana Fernandez Photography says she’s obsessed with the bride’s long sleeved dress and the berry tones in this spring Houston wedding, and we have to agree. Between the intricate laced top on the Hayley Paige gown and the deep reds, blues, and purples of the stationery, bridesmaids’ dresses, and florals, this wedding is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Get lost in all the gorgeous photos, right here.

From Dana Fernandez PhotographyElizabeth and Kyle’s wedding day was absolutely breathtaking from start to finish. From the beautiful touches of berry tones to Elizabeth’s dreamy Hayley Paige gown, their wedding and details were amazing to capture! Hands down our favorite detail of the day was Elizabeth’s gorgeous Hayley Paige gown because of the intricate, lace sleeves and the trademark tulle layers that allowed for amazing movement in photographs.

The couple started their wedding day at the gorgeous Spanish-style, St. Anne’s Catholic church, which was beautifully incorporated into their wedding invitations via a hand painted illustration by the talented Sable and Gray. Following their ceremony, they went to The Woodlands Country Club, which was full of neutral and berry toned florals by Blush and Vine as well – the gorgeous limestone fireplace was adorned with smilax greenery! We also loved the couple’s custom B&G cake topper!

Overall Elizabeth and Kyle’s wedding was one of our favorites – the two and their family and friends were amazing, and we couldn’t have been more blessed to have captured their wedding day!

PS. We hope to see sleeved gowns and rich tones become even more popular! They are our favorite trends right now because of how beautifully they photograph!

Yes, Your Wedding Gown Can Make Your Wedding

Inspired by her absolutely exquisite Vera Wang wedding gown (The groom wore Vera Wang, too!) and with the help of Ryder Sloan Events, this beautiful bride set the tone for her wedding – unique yet timeless, bold yet romantic. Janae Shields Photography told the story of the day from behind her lens, and the result is utter perfection. [Styleguide]

From Janae Shields PhotographyJulia is a fantastic wedding photographer, and so of course when it was her turn to get married, it was going to be gorgeous! Julia did such a wonderful job of pulling together unique and timeless elements that were important to her and Jeremy. Julia found the perfect Vera Wang gown, and it set the romantic tone of the wedding day. Filled with pink and blush details, it was the magical day she had always wanted. The Sonoma Wine Country was the perfect backdrop as it blended their love of nature with their love of wine. The help of the fantastic team at Ryder Sloan Events was invaluable, who coordinated the day of details with impeccable precision. Amy Burke Designs provided the lush blooms, which included succulents – Julia’s favorite! One element of the wedding day that was important was the cable car. Julia had a vision of seeing a cable car coming through the vines, and she got just that. It was the perfect transportation for the guests and wedding party out to the ceremony site, nestled in the heart of the vineyard. All in all, this day was the perfect mix of romantic and modern elements. With a last name of “Joy,” I have no doubt there will be nothing but in the future for them!

This Reception Took Place Under the World’s Largest Tiffany Dome

When it came to planning their wedding day, this darling duo wanted to highlight the city that played the backdrop to their romance. From growing up and then falling in love in Chicago, to their Navy Pier proposal, the Windy City held a special place in their hearts, so it seemed only natural that they choose the magnificent Chicago Cultural Center as their wedding venue. Boasting the world’s largest Tiffany stained-glass dome, it made for one stunning and elegant wedding, captured by Two Birds Photography. See all the grandeur in the Vault!

From the Bride… Jim and I met at a country concert through mutual friends in September of 2011. We hit it off instantly and found that we had more than a just few friends in common. Growing up about a mile apart, it felt like we had known each other forever. It wasn’t long after the concert when Jim asked me out on our first date. When we began dating, I was living in Lakeview and we were both working in downtown Chicago. We fell in love that year exploring the city – trying new restaurants and shows, attending baseball games and concerts, walking along the lake, and taking weekend trips. We dated for another three years, and in March of 2015, Jim proposed at Navy Pier with the city we both love so much as the backdrop. After the proposal, Jim surprised me with an engagement party to celebrate with all of our family and friends. It was definitely one of the happiest days of our lives!

When we began wedding planning, we knew we wanted to have a full Catholic mass. Jim and I both come from strong Irish Catholic families on the Southside of Chicago, so we chose St. Christina Church in the neighborhood where we both grew up. We also knew we wanted to have the reception downtown, and after visiting the Chicago Cultural Center, we left in awe. Preston Bradley Hall, with the world’s largest Tiffany dome, was one of the most beautiful rooms we had ever set foot in. Our decision was made, and we (quickly) booked our date for August 27, 2016.

With the two major venues set, the details began falling into place. We agreed on a classic and elegant theme and chose a neutral palette of ivory, gold, and blush to complement the green and gold accents of Preston Bradley Hall. The groomsmen wore black tuxes, and the bridesmaids wore long, black chiffon dresses for an elegant look. We accessorized with blush bouquets and boutonnieres. My mother helped me pick out my wedding dress, which was very special to me. Not only did I feel it suited my personality, but it also suited the venue. I loved how it was simple with a touch of glamour on the capped sleeves; yet the full skirt gave it a presence under the large dome.

For a personal touch, I designed all the wedding stationery from our invites and programs to the signs and menus, using quartz paper, gold ink, and blush accents. All of our vendors that we brought into the Cultural Center were absolutely amazing and, in my opinion, made our wedding live upe to the beautiful venue. Everything came together perfectly – the awesome band (312 Chicago), amazing food (Food Evolution), beautiful cake (Cake Chicago), and gorgeous florals and centerpieces (ZuZu’s Petals).

The morning of our wedding, it was pouring rain, but by the time we went to the church, the sun was out. Our wedding mass was exactly how I envisioned – we were surrounded by our family and friends with our wonderful bridal party standing by our side and our godparents and Jim’s grandfather playing a special part. I’ll never forget my dad walking me down the aisle trying not to cry or the overwhelming sense of calm that came over me after we said our vows.

After the mass, the bridal party went downtown to take pictures at the south garden of the Art Institute, which is one of my favorite spots in the entire city. I absolutely love the trees, ivy, and greenery – it inspired our summer wedding! After the Art Institute, Jim and I took a few pictures on the LaSalle Street Bridge – which have that iconic, downtown Chicago feel – before we went to our reception. When Jim and I walked up the grand staircase and into Preston Bradley Hall, it was truly magical. Seeing the entire room set up and lit with candles, and viewing the beautiful cake below the dome (Cake Chicago) was exactly how we envisioned and more. We had the absolute best day and night of our lives celebrating with all our friends and family in one room. We could not have asked for anything more.

A special thanks to our wedding planner, Lindsay Green Wedding and Events, and her team who took care of every detail the month leading up to and day of our wedding. From coordinating the vendors ahead of time to getting ready in the morning and cleaning up after the reception, they made everything run smoothly so we could truly enjoy every minute of our day. After the wedding, we received our amazing photos (Two Birds Photography) and video (One Fine Day Productions) and could not have been happier with how they captured every detail. Jim and I feel truly grateful for our beautiful wedding day and for the wonderful memories we will have for a lifetime.

From the Cinematographer… Mónica and Pedro live in London and our first contact was via Skype. We talked 5 minutes about the wedding and the rest of the time about them, us, about traveling and dreams. On the second time we met, on a sunny day at Jardim do Torel in Lisbon, Mónica and Pedro had two cold beers waiting for us before going on a walk in the city. They had a wedding exactly like them, super relaxed and fun! Going back to Quinta de Sant’Ana is always a pleasure and it fitted perfectly with Mónica and Pedro’s mood.
