Bride Steals the Show in a Pronovias Wedding Dress

This Bride is making me want to try on allll the wedding dresses again. I mean, can you even with this Pronovias number? It was the perfect match for a wow backdrop like this. Ether & Smith joined in for all the fun from behind the lens, leaving us with a collection of images so lovely, you’ll keep coming back for more.

From the bride… Nick and I met last summer at the gym when a mutual friend introduced us. There was instant chemistry and he asked me on a date one week later – we both just knew that this was it. We talked and hung out every day after that and I can truly say that I knew within the first two weeks after our first date that he was the one. I never believed in love at first sight until it happened to me. We made things official and saw each other every single day after that and then in February he proposed to me backstage at a meet and greet in front of Celine Dion – the proposal photos went viral and even ended up on E! News which we were definitely not expecting! It was such an incredible moment! Nick is the most kind, loving and respectful man I know and I am so thankful to be his wife.

My vision for our wedding was intimate, etherial and enjoyable. I envisioned very light, simple and natural aspects of our big day when it came to the venues, bridesmaids dresses and small details. We also both wanted our destination wedding weekend to be focused on enjoying our family. I really wanted to enjoy our day and not be stressed with every little detail of cake cutting, flower girls, getting people to dance or even picking out decorations so I kept it simple. We only invited immediate family members, had our ceremony outdoors where the only decorations needed were a few flowers, our reception was a simple dinner by the ocean served family style – no cake cutting or dancing and we actually got to go around and talk to each guest since we only had 54 people there. I know that having a small wedding is not for everyone but, for us, it was just a blessing getting to have both sides our family together in one place!

One highlight was definitely our personalized vows that we read to each other – I will cherish those words forever. The emotion that our ceremony evoked from our family members was really special to use because we got to feel so much love and support and that was another big highlight for me. Also, just the the sheer natural beauty and peacefulness of our two outdoor venues was so dreamy and far beyond anything I could have imagined for our wedding.

My advice is do your research but don’t over-research – when you end up finding something you love, go for it and then move on to the next thing. Going back and forth all the time during the planning process is a big part of what makes it stressful. Also, my advice would be to hire vendors that are easily to work with from the beginning. If you don’t hire a wedding planner from the start, definitely hire a “day of” planner that you work well with because there is no way to have a more stress free wedding without one! My photographer, videographer, event planner and florist were all SO sweet and easygoing on the day of our wedding and, after looking at their previous work, I trusted that that were very good at what they did so that took a lot of stress off of me. Lastly, RELAX and soak up every second of this beautiful day because some little details are bound to go wrong but, in the end, you will still be married to the man of your dreams and that is the most important thing.

5 Cringe-Worthy Things to Stop Doing At Your Wedding Dress Appointments

Shopping for your wedding dress is one of the most special and fun parts about planning your wedding. As a former bridal consultant, I’ve helped brides of all shapes, sizes, budgets, and attitudes. I’ve seen the bride who walks out of the store with the dress of her dreams, and the bride who became overwhelmed and walked away with no dress.

Avoid these 5 mistakes and you’ll be golden…

Kelsey Combe Photography

Criticizing Your Body
The quickest way to discourage yourself and put a damper on wedding dress shopping is to begin pointing out elements of your body that you don’t like. We all have “flaws” but thinking or talking about them negatively will make your dress shopping the furthest thing from enjoyable. Instead of criticizing your body, think about what parts you like and ask your bridal consultant to help you find a dress that accentuates them. Part of her job is finding dresses that flatter any and every body type/shape/size. She’ll find the right dress for your body.

Imaj Gallery

Not Being Honest
A bridal consultant’s goal is to find you the dress of your dreams. She doesn’t have a sneaky agenda. She’s trying to put you into a dress that’s perfect for YOU.To help her do this, you need to be honest about what elements you don’t like about the dresses and what elements you do like. This will help your consultant eliminate some dresses from her stock and narrow down on the best dress for YOU. With each dress, take time to tell her exactly what you think. She can handle it! You want the skirt to be fuller? You want less beading? You want a thinner shoulder strap? Vocalize your thoughts as she begins the process of elimination. It may take a few tries but she’ll find the right dress for you and she’ll be honest with you along the way too.

Ann & Kam Photography & Cinema

Not Being Flexible
While it’s important to be upfront about your thoughts when trying on different dresses, it’s crucial to keep an open mind. I’ve seen a countless amount of brides come in for a wedding dress shop adamant that they are looking for a lace mermaid (cue eye roll) but without fail they leave the store with the dress of their dreams (to their surprise) a beaded ball gown. You may think you want a certain silhouette or style but be aware that your mind may completely change while you’re trying on dresses. Be open to all silhouettes just to see how you feel, and never judge a dress until you try it on.

Anouschka Rokebrand

Not Wearing Proper Undergarments
It is difficult to try on wedding dresses when you’re not wearing the appropriate garments for underneath the dress. I’ve seen the commonly forgotten strapless bra, and unfortunately – the occasional commando bride… not kidding! No consultant wants to unzip a dress and find—SURPRISE—you’re totally naked. This will make you and whoever is helping you get in and out of the dresses, uncomfortable. I beg of you, throw on a pair of freaking underwear and a nude strapless bra. This will help give you a more accurate portrayal of what you’d look like on your wedding day, and your consultant won’t be cringing as she helps you in and out of the dress

Carla Ten Eyck

Bringing A Big Entourage
Many brides think they can get away with a large group of girls for wedding dress shopping. You may think your group will be nice and quiet and unlike the negative entourage we see on TLC shows. But no matter how you slice the cake, it’s just more personalities in the room with you. A nice and quite bridal entourage does not exist! Even if you WANT their opinion, it can often get to the point where girls have picked a ‘favorite’ dress from what you’ve tried on and it causes you to feel torn. You quickly begin to focus too heavily on each person’s opinion instead of listening to your own thoughts and what you want. It can become distracting and I’ve seen many girls leave without a dress because she can’t decide. Shop initially with two or three women who you trust more than anyone. Save the entourage for the fitting.

When done right, wedding dress shopping can be a wonderful experience for the bride, but a bit tricky because you’ve never done it before. Avoid the common cringe-worthy mistakes and you’ll be on track to finding the dress of your dreams!

Miss Idaho’s Elopement Session in the Mountains

Jeremiah and Kalie are the very definition of a power couple. Jeremiah, a country music singer-songwriter and Kalie, a pageant queen named Miss Idaho 2015 fell in love and decided on an intimate forest wedding as a nod to their shared love of nature. Jenny Losee captured their romantic elopement session in the mountains and it’s a beautiful ode to the great outdoors.

About the Couple

During the summer of 2014, singer-songwriter Jeremiah James Korfe was just wrapping up his successful country music tour, after performing all across the nation. He was requested to sing as a guest-celebrity performer at a local pageant in Twin Falls, Idaho which is where he would unknowingly meet the love of his life. Kalie Wright won the local title (as well as Jeremiah’s heart) that night and would go on to win the entire state pageant just a few months after. Kalie and Jeremiah first connected through music and their faith in God and began an adventurous journey that would allow them both to chase enormous dreams side by side.

Jeremiah became her biggest fan, supporting her through winning Miss National Sweetheart, Miss Idaho, and onto competing at Miss America. Four days after Kalie returned home from Miss America, Jeremiah invited her up to his beautiful farm in Minnesota. He knew she was the woman God hand-crafted for him, so overlooking the green fields he got down on one knee and promised to take care of her for life.

From the photographer… They both love the mountains and nature so much it makes sense that they would want an intimate romantic forest wedding! I am in love with the gown she picked- it is so elegant and totally her. Plus it is different to see the elegance mixed with the woods and it really worked beautifully for them. The day will be filled richly with love and happiness. I feel so honored to have been a part of this day with them.

7 Ways To Style Your Wedding Napkins

Say goodbye to dated, boring napkin folds my friends. When it comes to styling a wedding table, you’ve got to pull out all the stops to impress those guests! From menu-printed napkins to wrapped in calligraphy ribbon, these seven ideas will take your place settings to the next level.

Tie the knot. Simple, yet sophisticated.

This style is a perfect pairing for a casually elegant fete. A little bit formal, a little bit relaxed—with the same wow factor.

Print your menu on the napkins!

Why not have your menus printed right on the napkins? Such a simple, lovely idea that guests will ooh and ahh over. And, no more random menu cards hanging around the table.

Elegantly tucked and draped off the table.

This style is oh-so-classic and allows you to let place cards, menus or other plate adornments shine. Choose a slightly contrasting hue from the tablecloth for an eye-catching detail.

Layered and monogrammed.

Similarly to printing your menu on the napkins, you can also consider printing your monogram or wedding logo.

Get creative with placement! Diagonal positioning is fun.

A simple change in placement can create a whole new, playful look. Layer your linens between the plates and add a touch of greenery or blooms to the top.

In a classic ring, paired with a fun place card.

Napkin rings are traditional, but when paired with a creative place card like this boxed beauty, the style becomes modern and marvelous.

Wrapped in ribbon with guest names in calligraphy.

Ribbons are still all the rage. Forgo traditional place cards with calligraphy ribbons wrapped around your napkins.

5 Sneaky Wedding Budget Items You Can’t Forget

No matter how many to-do lists we make, there are always items that sneak up on us when wedding planning. Whether you’re planning the event yourself or have a wedding planner by your side to keep you on track, brides and grooms often forget at least one thing (we all did!).

To help, we discuss some of the most common unexpected planning items—just don’t forget to add these to that to-do list!

Katie Stoops Photography

POSTAGE
Picking out your invitations is one of the most exciting parts about planning a wedding. But what couples often forget is that each invite will need not one, but two, stamps (one for the outer envelope and one for the RSVP envelope), plus any invite that is not a standard shape or weight will add to that cost and add to the amount of stamps you need. Postage is also needed for thank you cards, bridal shower invites, and save the dates, so it adds up quickly! Keep costs down by picking a standard size and weight for your invites and ordering the stamps in bulk.

Sylvie Gil Photography

FEEDING YOUR VENDORS
Think about it: it’s the majority of your vendors’ job to be at the wedding the entire night, and they need to eat too! Vendors like your planner, photographers, videographers, and the DJ or band will usually always need to be fed, but check with other vendors too. Most venues have a policy for vendor meals and can set aside a plate for them. If your venue doesn’t, order a few extra meals—and always be sure to check with your vendors about any dietary restrictions.

Maria Lamb Photography

BATHROOM BASKETS
Bathroom baskets are a fun way to get a family friend or close aunt involved in the planning. Task them with creating a pretty box to be filled with essentials like hairspray, tampons, hand sanitizer and anything else you think your ladies would need throughout the night. A men’s basket isn’t always necessary but could be a nice touch (fill it with things like cologne and mints). Your guests will appreciate the extra effort and it will make your venue’s bathroom feel a touch more luxurious.

Maria Lamb Photography

WEDDING INSURANCE
Before you call your fiancé in a panic that you need insurance, check with your vendors and your venue. A lot of them will already have their own insurance in place (in fact, some venues even require vendors to have insurance in order for you to use them), keeping you from having to get it yourself. But, if they don’t, it’s definitely something to consider. Insurance will protect you should anything go wrong and have to be postponed (weather, injury, other unforeseen circumstances) or if a vendor fails to show. Do your research first and be sure to add this to your budget as soon as possible.

Ruth Eileen Photography

TIPS
You’re already paying your vendors a lot, so many people feel a hint of shock when they realize they have to tip them, too. But, while tipping your vendors isn’t necessarily a must-do, it is expected and generous, especially if you love the work they did. When booking, keep a tip in mind (10-20% depending on the vendor and service) when determining the budget. Check your contracts to be sure gratuity is not already included! A few days before the wedding, get the tip money out in cash and place it into envelopes with the vendors’ name on it. Enlist the best man or father-in-law to hand them out at the wedding so you don’t have to deal with any money issues on the big day.

Finding Elegant Southern Charm in the Middle of Beverly Hills

This Beverly Hills celebration is far from your typical Los Angeles affair. It feels as though it’s been transported straight from a Southern estate designed by La Fete with florals by Twig & Twine. Blue hued and filled with classic charm is exactly what you’ll find in the images captured by Luna de Mare Photography. And some wildly cute flower girls too! See it all right here.

From the Photographer… Nicole & Walker’s chic LA Destination Wedding was full of Southern Romance in the heart of Beverly Hills. The Bride, originally from LA along with the Groom, from Charleston, South Carolina, wanted an LA wedding on a warm balmy day, with family and friends from both the East and West coast in attendance to witness their beautiful day at a Private Venue. The breath taking Ceremony was nestled in between aged Pine trees with an alter created to embrace the nature it was surrounded by, including beautiful mahogany pews for guests to enjoy the intimate vow exchange. Plants were lined against pews to further embrace the natural ambience and it created the most stunning outdoor aesthetic, truly magical to capture. Once the Ceremony concluded, guests were shuttled back to the large wrap around Veranda as dusk fell and the soft glow of lights began to shimmer in the fading light. Cocktails clinked, and appetizers were passed as soft jazz hummed in the background setting the tone for the reception that followed just down the path, under a clear tent with rustic wood tables, hemstitch runners, low centerpiece arrangements and illuminated twinkle lights, all waiting for Guests to enjoy and dine. The palette was very beach inspired, incorporating light gray blue, ivory, neutrals with greenery and pops of peach. After dining, dancing & merriment, guests lined the courtyard and sent off the Newlyweds to the Vintage car awaiting them, with a grand Sparkler exit and a Champagne toast.

This Wedding Will Transport You to the Secret Garden

What are the key ingredients to a Secret Garden inspired wedding? A rustic venue, greenery upon greenery, and a soft floral-inspired color palette. This wedding has it all, between the floral arrangements by Home Sweet Flowers that complemented Barndiva‘s ample natural greens and the soft, grayish purple linens by La Tavola. Head on over to the gallery, where Melissa Fuller Photography’s images will transport you to the beloved English novel.

From the Bride… After the engagement, every Bride-to-be’s next step is picturing the big day – I envisioned a romantic, “Secret Garden”-like look and feel for my ceremony and reception. When a friend told me about Barndiva as a venue – a farm-to-table restaurant in Healdsburg, California – I knew it would be the perfect setting for our alfresco celebration with friends and family.

An inviting tone was set with simple yet elegant wedding invitations by Minted (“Floral Crown” by Lori Wemple), and our guests were treated to an evening of heart-felt vows and toasts, delicious food and wine, lush florals, and plenty of sweets, dancing, and merriment.

Every moment was so wonderful, but the ceremony itself was very special  – intimate and personal, a true reflection of who we are as a couple. When I look back at the photographs and see the expressions on our faces, I see this unforgettable moment in time. The day was truly a dream come true.

What You Need To Know Before Choosing an Unconventional Wedding Venue

Choosing a wedding venue sets the tone for what kind of celebration you’ll have. It’s no wonder many couples are forgoing the church and country club option for unique, one-of-kind locations that can showcase their personality.

Wendy Laurel Photography

If this is you, we have everything you need to know before booking a non-traditional venue.

Get to know the site.

If you’ve fallen in love with a location that doesn’t typically host weddings, like a barn in the country or an art gallery in the city, find out if the venue is comfortable with weddings, says Kate Lerman, wedding planner and owner of Chicago Vintage Weddings. Ask how many weddings the venue have hosted, and how many the on-site manager has overseen in order to get a sense of their experience level and willingness to host your celebration. Weddings differ from other events and you want the on-site team to know what they’re doing.

If a venue seems loosely managed or too good to be true, tread carefully. They may be inexperienced or not serious about their job. You should feel confident that the venue is going to stay in business for the long run, with no risk of shutting down after you fork over a deposit. A place like a museum is going to be less of a gamble than a new business which might not have the necessary infrastructure already in place.

Elizabeth Messina

The (challenges with the) great outdoors.

Outdoor weddings are beautiful but require a lot of work. Particularly if the venue isn’t used to hosting them. “Nothing eats up your budget like tenting,” says Kate, who’s seen clients billed more than $30,000 for an outdoor setup. “That’s a result of having to build a venue up from scratch.” Which means not only the overhead structure but climate control, bathrooms, electric, siding and flooring as well as the labor costs associated with assembly and breakdown. And tenting is a must if your reception is set outdoors in case it rains. Make sure you’re up for the challenge or have a team in place to help with the process in order to avoid frustration.

And be sure to read the fine print. You may be responsible for any property damage (like a torn up lawn or clean-up if rain creates a mess).

Michael Wachniack Photography

Consider hidden costs.

“The venue might be cheap but think of all the things you’ll need day-of,” says Kate. Does the venue charge extra for additional set-up time? Will the venue provide tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware, lighting and a sound system or do you need to rent that separately? This is something my husband and I didn’t factor in when booking a rehabbed warehouse space for our wedding venue. Consider additional factors like parking, valet and security. Some venues require union fees or charge commission fees to vendors who work on-site. Ask about these policies before booking in order to avoid out-of-budget surprises once you’ve committed.

Justin DeMutiis Photography

Be mindful of vendors.

Aside from the kickback a venue might receive for having an exclusive vendor list, a recommended list of vendors ensures the team hired knows how to move in the space. A must if the venue has a challenging space like no kitchen to prep. If the venue doesn’t have a preferred vendor list, make sure the vendors you choose know what they’re getting into by doing a walk-through of the space in advance.

Jodie Chapman

Speak up.

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions,” says Kate. “Managers should be responsive enough to make you feel confident that all bases are covered on the big day, especially if they’re not used to hosting weddings.” If responding to your wedding planning inquiries isn’t a top priority for the venue, make sure you are okay with that.

And if you love something off the beaten path but can’t make up your mind, Kate recommends asking the venue if you can put a soft hold on a date until you’re ready to commit.

There’s No Such Thing as Too Many Flowers or Too Much Cake

This Bride envisioned a traditional fall wedding with opulent florals, inspired by her mother’s love for flowers, and a wow-worthy cake. The team at Invision Events definitely brought her dream to life with the help of some of the South’s most talented vendors! HotHouse Design Studio installed over-the-top orchid- and hydrangea- filled floral arrangements anywhere and everywhere, and Barb’s Cakes created a wedding cake masterpiece. Needless to say, this gallery by Kelli + Daniel Taylor Photography cannot be missed.

Glamorous

From Invision EventsAlex and Wes are college sweethearts who met while attending Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. Born and raised in the south, they knew they wanted a classic southern wedding full of opulence and glamour to set the stage for an over-the-top party to entertain family and friends. Alex chose a grounding color of deep emerald, complemented with ivory and gold. A traditional church ceremony at Cathedral Church of the Advent followed by a glowing reception at the Birmingham Museum of Art were just the beginning of this magical fete.

The team at HotHouse Design Studio sourced three varieties of orchids, and A Social Affair presented a menu boasting traditional Greek fare, Southern classics, an entire raw bar, and Mississippi tailgating favorites like tamales, french onion dip, and mini hot dogs. Not to be overlooked, the showstopping Bride’s cake was a fun and exciting focal point that tasted just as good as it looked!

The day was extra special as Alex and her girls were able to relax and get ready in her family home, which is always our favorite way to begin a wedding day. Other meaningful details were incorporated throughout including that they departed in the same vintage vehicle (with the same driver, too!) as Alex’s older brother and sister-in-law, who were married just a few years before. But before I get ahead of myself, let me have Alex tell you everything in her own words…

From the Bride… I am a girl who has pictured her wedding for as long as she can remember. Through the years, really not much changed! I always wanted a big, traditional wedding. I wanted a fall wedding, as it is my favorite time of year; whites, blushes, emerald, and champagne were a staple; a BIG cake; and TONS of flowers. I also wanted a long train, lace veil, big and beautiful church, and a trumpet. I guess I would say, I wanted a traditional, breathtaking, and love-filled day.

Wes and I both love our dogs more than we can say. We wanted them included in some way, so we decided to name our signature drinks after them. The “Scout” was Wes’s take on a Kentucky Mule, and the “Winnie” was my take on a French 77 (we even had napkins done with the drink recipes and our pups silhouettes)! Given that it was football season and Ole Miss (our alma mater) was playing, we handed out stickers like the ones you would see all over the Grove on gameday that said, “Alex and Wes love the Rebs.” My garters were another little piece that ended up being very special to me. I found a vintage, one-of-a-kind “love birds” charm during our engagement. It’s a gold coin, with two little birds sitting atop a diamond and a ruby. I attached this charm to my handmade garter that I got to design with LaGartier.

I think I have three favorite moments. Getting to see everyone for the first time is definitely a piece of the day that stands out in my mind. I let my Bridesmaids see me first, then my dad and my brother, but my first look with Wes was the most perfect part of the day. After that I would say walking down the aisle with my father is my second favorite. I can’t begin to put into words the magnitude of everything I felt, but being on my dad’s arm was the most perfect place at that moment. Lastly, saying goodbye to our families at the end of the night. Getting to thank them for everything, let them know how loved they are, and how loved they made us feel was just the perfect ending to the perfect day.

One of my favorite details was the wedding goblets my mom and sister found in the silver vaults in London. My brother and sister-in-law used them and had their wedding monogram and date engraved on them, and mine and Wes’s are too!

My mom’s love for flowers made them really important to me. I wanted them to be everywhere you turned, and they were! We had orchids, roses, hydrangeas, and greenery everywhere we could put it. It was exactly what I had envisioned.

I went into the dress process thinking I wanted long sleeves and lace everywhere, but in the end, once I put that dress on for the first time, I knew it was the one – with no lace on the dress itself! We designed my veil, and they did all of the lace applique by hand at the Pronovias flagship store in New York City.

My cake was seriously what wedding cake dreams are made of. It was a 7 tier, half chocolate, half yellow cake with buttercream frosting. It had flowers between each tier and was set atop the most beautiful “blanket” of flowers that cascaded towards the floor. It was just as delicious as it was beautiful. Wes’s cake was a 3 tier yellow cake with creamy caramel frosting. It had a duck on top as Wes is an avid duck hunter, and Scout made an appearance there, too, in the form of rice krispies!

The six pence in my shoe was an antique my mom found that had an oak leaf on it. We used oak leaves/acorns throughout the paper suite and even included little acorns on the bouts!

Wes’s gift was an out-of-production Ruger Red Label 28 gauge that I had hand engraved by Lisa Tomlin. It has his initials in gold inlay, our wedding date, one side engraving of Scout and ducks, another side engraving of Winnie and quail on it. (See, I told you we love our pups!) I also gave him a letter and a journal I had been writing in for 3 years with love quotes, Bible verses, and sayings I had found.

My piece of advice would be to truly enjoy every second of the process and TRUST your planner, as well as the process itself. It is the most wonderful time. You’ll have parties and showers that prove just how loved you are as individuals and as a couple. There were moments (few and far between) that I found myself completely stressing, but at the end of the planning time, everything falls into place. It all works just like it should, and all of the little details you stressed about worked themselves out. Just appreciate and delight in being engaged, being celebrated, and being loved. You’ll never have another time like this in your life – it’s special! Don’t forget that.

This Classic Arlington Wedding Was a Tear-Jerker!

Any Bride will tell you, it’s those unplanned, intimate moments with your loved ones throughout the wedding day that you’ll remember most, and we’re sure this Bride, Maddy, would agree. Elizabeth Fogarty Photography recalls two sweet moments of this classic, navy and gold wedding at the Army Navy Country Club planned by Engaging Affairs: when Maddy’s sister shared heartfelt words while the ladies were getting ready and when her father saw Maddy for the first time – the Bride teared up for both!

From the Bride… We met on New Years Eve at a party. We both work at Under Armour and were introduced through a mutual friend. Chris says that he knew I was the one the minute I walked through the door! Our words for the wedding day were classic, elegant, FUN! Our colors were navy with gold accents and white flowers. The important elements of our big day were the music, our friends and family, and the flowers.

As travel-lovers always up for an adventure, Jenn and Matt knew a destination elopement would be right up their alley. They decided to tie the knot in their favorite place on earth (Santorini, Greece) and planned the entire affair in three months flat. Of course, they brought in local professionals like Tie the Knot Santorini and Betty Flowers Santorini to make it all happen and we’ve got the captures from Sandy & Odysseas Photography.

From the bride… Our wedding was perfect for our taste! Most important for us was being able to share it together, just the two of us. We decided to elope in Santorini 3 months before the big day and could not be happier with our decision! It felt so intimate and we have some incredible memories of the day. A big driver was being able to get married stress-free…we had both seen a lot of weddings turn into a spectacle or be focused on other elements besides the love of the couple getting married. That was something we really didn’t want so eloping seemed like a great choice! I love white and gold – I wear both almost every day and our house decor is very neutral- so naturally, I wanted our wedding to reflect a similar color-scheme. We stuck to mostly white, gold and green with some light rose accents. White roses with greenery and succulents served as the perfect accent to the gorgeous scenery behind us. I wanted a big bouquet that was reminiscent of one made while walking through a field of flowers! Our florist did a great job capturing my vision.

We hung gold, geometric lanterns from the posts on our balcony to frame the beautiful backdrop of the Santorini caldera. We love simple elegance so it was important for us to keep our palate neutral while letting the setting we were in speak for itself.

Our favorite part of wedding planning was picking the music. We customized every piece to our tastes, from walking down the aisle to an acoustic version of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” to our first kiss being accented with ZZ Top’s “Gimme all your Lovin.” It really made it feel like our day!

I couldn’t wait to see Matt after I got ready. Since we planned every aspect of the wedding together and hadn’t really told many people, I was excited to have one big secret from him and that was my dress! I knew how badly he was dying to see me in it and he had no idea what it looked like so it was a great moment to be able to finally show him!

Matt and I met at work. We were paired up on most of our accounts together and were an awesome team from the start. After being great friends our relationship evolved and we have been together ever since! There actually was no proposal to start! We talked about eloping since we first started dating and randomly decided to make it a reality. Matt did officially propose two days before we left for our elopement in Santorini at a beautiful dock where we often sit at night to watch the stars. I wasn’t expecting it at all!

From Sandy and Odysseas Photography… Jenn and Matt met at work when they were both working for a tech start-up in Boston, MA. They became great friends and after a year or so of working together decided to start dating. After a year or so of dating, they both decided to quit their jobs and do a bit of travel. They visited a ton of places, but they absolutely fell in love with Santorini. They had always joked about eloping since they first started dating, but decided to make it a reality and elope in their favorite place, Oia in Santorini!

As wedding photographers, we have a tremendous fondness of Santorini. Its fusion of minimalism and folk architecture became the perfect canvas for us to showcase the couple’s elegance and all the nuances of their tenderness and newlywed bliss.

Being already familiar with their wedding destination, Jenn and Matt knew all about its immaculate vistas, so they picked one of the most beautiful locations near the village of Imerovigli, a late 1800’s winery that has been refurbished into a crisp boutique establishment, overlooking the conical peninsula jutting out into the caldera.
Tie the Knot created a classical-meets-whimsy intimate corner for the stunning couple’s delightful dinner. A milky white screen complemented by laurel and eucalyptus embellished, craftsman glass hanging lanterns, a gold sequin runner, sleek gold-toned flatware and clear contemporary candle holders matched the pillowy blue horizon perfectly.

Jenn held a simple, natural and classic looking, all-greenery bridal bouquet accented with honeysuckle twining bine, stephanotis, eucalypti, olive branches, white peonies, ivory viburnum and echeveria, a synthesis that was also employed as a centerpiece and translated the couple’s sophisticated style. The snowy-white cake made of vanilla bean, lemon and coconut cream was decorated with eucalyptus, peonies and akita roses.

We loved shooting Jenn and Matt’s First Look for the sparkling-eyes, the gentle gestures and the excitement of these initial moments. As the warm breeze swayed us away into the 360-degree sweeping sunset of the volcanic island, the waltzing steps of these two romantics still echoed on the flagstone path as rose petals softly started to dance along.

From Bride… Ben and I met in college over a very serious game of beer pong! We reconnected a year out of school while I was in San Francisco and he was in Boston, but I was lucky to be visiting the east coast often enough to see him and start dating. Thanks to Ben taking a chance on us, he quickly moved out to SF and the rest is history. Fast forward five years and for New Year’s Eve 2015, we traveled to Montego Bay, Jamaica where he surprised me with an overnight stay in Negril. We went for a walk along the beach, sat on a couple beach chairs with some Red Stripes and before long, Ben was guiding me to the nearby torches where he had secretly set up a GoPro. As a backstory, we collect sand from all the places we visit, so he used this story to get me to gather sand into a glass he had brought along, except the glass had a box inside. Next thing I know he was proposing! I, of course said yes, and was so overwhelmed with emotion I could not stop laughing the whole way back to the hotel.

Our wedding weekend was truly a dream come true. I’m a producer, so it was really hard for me not to produce our own wedding and it was my absolute favorite project by far! Despite my endless Pinterest boards, we really wanted to make sure every single detail felt like us, but also felt natural in the incredible location that is the Walton House. I think this story coming to life is what I loved most about it all. We wanted to guide our guests through a magical and tropical experience with surprises at every corner; from the waterfall sounds in the entry garden, to the ceremony nook surrounded by palm trees, onto the cocktail hour with the aviary and monkeys, to the dinner under the trees by the stable, topped off with the activities in the barn and dancing under the tent – it was truly a dream world come true!

Most importantly, we gathered all our favorite things, from our favorite Latin foods (I’m from Argentina and Ben is from Boston,) to the sand for the ceremony (it came from the Jamaica proposal and the Miami beach near the venue) and even the music chosen for the ceremony. I think a major highlight was having a Tribe Called Quest song as the processional (our favorite artist) and that I then walked down the aisle to the Beatles track my dad and I used to sing when I was little. It was also important to demonstrate the spirit of the Walton House, and it being an animal sanctuary, and you see that in little elements like the custom table card illustrations, centerpieces and even the photo booth filter! We basically put all our favorite and meaningful things, even if some were silly, all in one place :)

My biggest piece of advice for engaged brides is to go with your heart and make the wedding personal to you and your partner. At the end of the day, of course we all want beautiful photography and table settings, but the most memorable moments are the ones that resonate with what you two love and what makes you happy. After all, your family and friends are all there to partake and witness your love on this momentous day, so why not share a piece of your world with them! This is the perfect time to share all your favorite and meaningful things in one incredible place, enjoy them with all your favorite people, and have the best day ever.

A Dreamy Anniversary on the Santa Barbara Coast

Simply put, Samantha and Josh’s anniversary session is what #couplegoals are all about. They took to the Santa Barbara coast with Tenth & Grace to capture their love in the sweetest way and we’re wholeheartedly obsessed. Samantha rocked a rose-tone dress by Jenny Yoo that made for dreamy anniversary images they’ll treasure for a lifetime.

From the photographer… This anniversary shoot with Samantha and Josh took place just south of Santa Barbara. The fog had rolled in pretty heavily at our original location, so we drove up the coast until we found this small pocket of sun on Montecito’s Butterfly Beach. I’m so glad we did because the light was absolutely warm and golden!

Samantha wore Jenny Yoo’s “Inesse” gown by Jenny Yoo in the color cinnamon rose. That color was the perfect complement to the pink and red tones in the amazing bouquet designed by Hint of Chic.

3 Nutrition Tips for Glowing, Gorgeous Skin

As a Registered Dietitian, it is no surprise I consider proper nutrition vital to a healthy lifestyle. But beyond serious health conditions, I also know the important role nutrition plays in helping us look and feel our best, including a healthy complexion.

From incorporating more healthy, anti-inflammatory fats into meals to choosing foods filled with the right micronutrients, read along to hear my tips for eating your way to healthier skin.

O’Malley Photographers

Make (Healthy) Fat Your Friend

While not all fats are created equally, foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids can be beneficial for several health factors, including healthy skin. Omega-3s have strong anti-inflammatory properties, helping to suppress inflammatory responses related to everyday encounters like stress or poor diet. In addition, these fats play a structural role in cell membrane health, meaning they are important for anything from hormone function and heart health, to the body’s largest organ, skin.

Fatty fish, like tuna or salmon, along with walnuts, chia seeds, ground flaxseed, or canola oil are all rich sources of omega-3s. Try to incorporate more omega-3s into your diet by drizzling canola oil over roasted vegetables, stirring chia seeds into your smoothie, or choosing salmon or tuna at least twice each week. Adding more omega-3 sources into your diet will help protect the skin’s barrier to lock in moisture and provide a more hydrated appearance.

Think Beyond Gut Health with Probiotics

Probiotics are the hot new nutrition darling, and for good reason! New research shows probiotics help maintain a strong microbiome, or the healthy bacteria within your gut. Studies suggest balancing the microbiome with good bacteria, like probiotics, helps to minimize unhealthy bacteria, and ultimately, aid in supporting a healthy immune system and GI tract.

But beyond GI health, research also suggests skin health may be connected to a healthy microbiome. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, probiotic use has shown to reduce acne and rosacea flares by creating a protective shield when applied topically and providing anti-inflammatory properties when orally consumed. While further research is needed, adding probiotic-rich foods like kefir, Greek yogurt, or kombucha to your daily diet will support a healthy microbiome and may support calmer, clearer skin.

Maximize your Micronutrients

While a healthful diet includes a varied profile of vitamins and minerals, focusing on a few specific micronutrients has been shown to improve skin health. Antioxidants like vitamins C and E provide protection against free-radical damage from UV rays, pollution, or poor diet. Vitamin C also plays a role in collagen production, which provides skin with elasticity. Add more vitamin C-rich foods into your diet and think beyond citrus with produce like strawberries, cauliflower, or red peppers. For vitamin E, add in foods like almonds, sunflower seeds, broccoli and spinach.

Almond Corner

Lycopene, another antioxidant from the carotenoid family, gives fruits and vegetables a bright red hue and may help protect against sun damage. Plus, research suggests this antioxidant may assist in preventing collagen breakdown, therefore helping skin keep a youthful, healthy appearance. Add more lycopene to the diet with foods like watermelon, tomatoes, or tomato products, like no sugar added-marinara sauce for a concentrated source of the nutrient.

A Kate Spade Inspired Wedding That Pops!

You probably know something is from Kate Spade without being told – it will likely feature a bold and playful pattern and a girly pop of gold! This Bride drew inspiration from the brand, incorporating that same visual interest into her chic black and white fête. Hello Blue Photo captured all the fabulous details, from the high-low Alfred Sung Bridesmaids’ dresses to the festive sweets by Bee’in Creative With Cookies, and the whole glamorous celebration is waiting for you in the Vault.

From the Bride… Chris is from Palm Springs, so the desert is like our second home. I love wintertime, and Christmas is my favorite holiday! We knew we wanted to get married in December, and the weather is just beautiful year-round in the desert, so we started to look for venues in the Palm Springs area. We visited the Miramonte Resort in Indian Wells and immediately fell in love. We loved the romantic architecture of the resort and the idea of getting married under a beautiful olive tree at sunset.

I have always loved the elegant style of a black and white wedding, and I used that vision while also incorporating “Kate Spade” inspired elements along with hints of gold to bring in the sparkle of winter season. The Groomsmen all wore black suits with bow ties and my Bridesmaids wore black and ivory, high-low dresses. I wanted my Bridesmaids to add their own touches by choosing their own gold statement necklaces and gold heels for the day!

It was really important to Chris and I that we include as many friends and family in our wedding as possible. Chris’s younger brother was our officiant, my older brother and cousin played acoustic guitar during our ceremony, and one of the Groomsmen and his girlfriend performed our first dance song. We also made sure to include my adorable nephew as our ring bearer and three little cousins as our perfect flower girls!

I knew that I wanted to plan my own wedding, so one of my biggest tasks was finding vendors that could help take my ideas and turn them into a reality. Christina Wells at Hello Blue Photo was the first person that we spoke with during our wedding planning process. Chris and I felt so comfortable with her starting from the first time we met. She was able to capture our wedding beautifully using the natural light of the desert sunset. Nothing ever felt posed or forced, and she truly captured the highlights of our special day!

Romantic Dinner Party-Style Wedding Set in a Historic Barn

Opting to plan a wedding on the opposite end of the country, Mary and Patrick brought their East Coast style to central California for a day they’ll never forget. Danae Grace Events turned the historic barn at Santa Margarita Ranch into an ultra-romantic dinner party with loose, organic florals by Noonan’s Wine Country Designs to accent the space. Ashley Ludaescher worked her magic behind the camera and the gallery is one perfect moment after the next.

From the Bride, Mary… When Patrick and I got engaged, the first big hurdle we faced was deciding where to get married — my family is in San Francisco and his is in Fairfield, Connecticut. Eventually, we settled on central California, where my mom grew up. Dreaming up a West Coast wedding while based in Boston wasn’t easy, but we were lucky to have an incredible wedding planner. Danae Pearce’s style is so elegant and dreamy, and she made it work perfectly with our rustic setting. I gave Danae a pretty bare-bones sense of how I pictured the day, and I was thrilled with her vision. She understood exactly what I wanted and I trusted her completely. She put together an all-star team of vendors for a truly perfect day.

The color scheme for the wedding was delicate — blush, creams, touches of gold, etc. — which is exactly what I’m always drawn to. Patrick’s personal style, on the other hand, is quintessential preppy New England (I call his aesthetic “Easter brunch”). We met in the middle by giving the groomsmen bright ties and socks, and Patrick wore a nautical pocket square. Our ceremony was right in the center of San Luis Obispo at the Old Mission, which is where my parents got married. From there, we went to Santa Margarita Ranch, one of the oldest ranches in the state. Our reception was in their barn, which was decked out with lush foliage, flowers, chandeliers, and lounge areas. We arranged for the ranch’s historic train to take guests around the gorgeous property during cocktail hour. It was a huge hit, especially with our precious ring bearer, who probably rode it at least three times!

There were so many great moments from our wedding day, from getting ready at my mom’s house to breaking out Irish coffees at the end of the night. Because there was so much going on, the day felt like a blur to me. I am so grateful that the fabulous Ashley Ludaescher and her team (her husband, Andreas) were there to capture those moments so we can relive the day through her photos. Her eye is truly one-of-a-kind, and she felt like one of my friends by the end of the day. Patrick and I are overjoyed at how everything turned out and would recommend all of our vendors in a heartbeat!

Villa

From the Bride… It really was the wedding of my dreams. I tried to make it a point throughout the evening to stop and take it all in. There was one particular moment on that beautifully-lit terrace; we were surrounded by our dearest friends and family and I felt like it was a scene from a movie. Everything was in slow motion, including the laughter and chatter in the background, and I just felt overwhelmed by love. I remember thinking to myself, “Is this really my life?”

In planning the wedding, the most important thing for David and I was that the evening would be a romantic date night for our “couple” friends – a night sans kiddos to take a breath and enjoy reflecting with their honey. For friends and family, we wanted them to get away and experience the joys of community. For David, the next elements at the top of his list were food and cake. Simple items for the foodie I fell in love with. For me, it was the vibe – that the details were a reflection of our taste and personality and that it all felt personal. Not-so-simple, for I happen to be an extreme visual curator and co-partners (with my matron of honor) of a boutique branding and creative agency.

What brought all of these elements together was picking the right venue. We toured 15 spaces in the search for “the one.” My guy really deserves a special reward for that. Villa Del Sol D’Oro was one of the early stops on our list. I think I knew walking the grounds that this was going to be the perfect backdrop for our nuptials. Meeting Sandi and her crew (who are like family to her – and some really are), was the icing on the cake. As we joked around about getting married on April Fool’s Day, her warmth and candor made us feel like she was our fairy godmother. We felt completely reassured that she was going to take care of us and that she truly cared about our union. What I love is that the venue is old school. No fancy ads in giant bridal publications and websites – mostly word of mouth. Our estimate was written out by hand by Sandi herself while we sat across her at a small table in the kitchen. The venue was really a total package of all the details I was looking for, without the à la carte charges: long tables for family-style dining, chandeliers in the trees, votives around the fountain, lights strung up on a garden terrace, historic architectural details, parking, a trusted dj and photo booth vendor, delicious food, gold charger plates, Chiavari chairs, and indoor spaces for inclement weather. And to think, we found the venue by stumbling across a friend’s photo in my Instagram feed.

The rest was so much easier to piece together after the venue was checked off our list. Well, I guess “easy” might be the wrong word. After a lot of hunting, I found my dress at a fancy bridal boutique. My matron of honor, in a stroke of brilliance, found the same dress during a last-minute Google search, but at a fraction of the cost for no shipping, no tax and a free veil from mybridalcloset.com. The groom’s suit was an accidental score at Bloomingdales after scouring the usual spots for the perfect bright French blue. The signage, invitations, programs and place cards were all elements that I felt I needed to hand make (since that is what I do for a living). That was quite an undertaking – especially the marble hexagon place cards. Let’s just say, the Pinterest D.I.Y. should have said, “use an electric sander to remove the mesh backing from the tiles” instead of a nail file which was the actual suggested tool. The experience bonded us as a family since it ended up involving most of our immediate family to accomplish.

Partnering with the right vendors was key to making our wedding feel personal and intimate. And most of our vendors were drawn out of our talented community. Everyone had a hand in it – from the florals and the custom wedding jewelry to our jazz quartet, our officiant, our guitar and worship leader, first dance choreography, custom framed engagement photos, boba tea station, hair and makeup, and even our printed paper goods. Our biggest find and new friendship was our photographer. Since I’m usually behind the camera producing photo shoots for work, I knew we needed to find someone who shared my love and eye for capturing beautiful moments. This person also needed to make us feel at ease and less awkward in front of the camera. And you can see that she did just that.

The biggest compliment you can receive as a bride is to hear that your guests had an amazing time and recall all of the details that made it just so. I’m happy to say, my dreams came true.

5 Subtle Autumn Details for Your Fall Wedding

Fall is such a beautiful time of year to have a wedding. The leaves are a lovely mix of sunset colors, and the air is crisp; not too warm, not too cold. But one of the BEST things about a fall wedding is the endless possibilities for small details that tie the whole day together.

These five small autumn details will pair well with the crisp weather and will give you the most picturesque wedding ever! Get cozy with us!

Ashley Bosnick Photography

Candlelight
An evening fall reception with candle light glowing inside the reception is the cherry on top of the autumn wedding theme. It gives everyone that cozy mood when the sun has set and the temperature drops. Fill the room with white candles of all shapes and sizes.

Apples
The new trend of having a piece of fruit at each place setting is so unique and fun. Guests will love to sit down at their seat to a beautiful tablescape that includes a bright crisp apple with their name in calligraphy. It brightens the reception and ties in the autumn wedding theme perfectly.

Kurt Boomer
White Pumpkins
Is there anything prettier in the fall than a white pumpkin accented with gold calligraphy hand lettering?! This is a classic way to add a subtle fall touch. Use them as center pieces on rectangle tables or line the doorway into the reception.

Judy Pak Photography

Blankets
While fall days are usually a perfectly warm temperature, the late afternoons can get a bit chilly. Use that to your advantage and give guests some cozy blankets. This is perfect if part of your wedding is outdoors. Bonus – it encourages everyone to snuggle up.

Apple Cider & Donut Bar
One of the fun elements to wedding receptions, in general, is the ability to feature different “bars.” A cute bar with a variety of donuts and hot apple cider will be a crowd pleaser. It will transport everyone to those traditional fall memories of going to the farm to get pumpkins, cider and donuts! Include an assortment of glazed, pumpkin spice, plain, and cinnamon

Fall is the perfect season to enhance your wedding with beautiful details. These small touches will give your guests all the fall wedding feels!
