When I was little, my mom used to say “we could totally make that” to just about everything she saw, from ornaments to wreaths to exquisitely crafted holiday treats at our local bakery. I would roll my eyes as all sassy children do and quietly vowed that when I was a grown-up, I was going to BUY everything. But alas, as I grew up and started my own family, I quickly realized that per usual, my mom was right. Making is way more fun than buying, especially when it comes to holiday sweets and treats. All you need is a great jingle bell inspired playlist, willing and able helpers, and a collection of incredible Cuisinart appliances to whip everything up with total ease.

CAKES, CUPCAKES, COOKIES & BREADS

If there is one Cuisinart appliance that you are going to put on your registry or splurge on for yourself, make it the Cuisinart Stand Mixer. It changes everything. Your bakes become more consistent, your confidence builds, you start to conquer everything from pretty cake and holiday cookies to cinnamon rolls and babkas. The stand mixer is my number one, no holds bar kitchen soul mate and rarely a day goes by where I don’t give it a hug and a kiss.

MARSHMALLOWS

The one thing that we make every holiday season, usually the day after Thanksgiving, is homemade marshmallows. The soft pillowy goodness runs circles around store-bought marshies and I end up using them in everything from hot cocoa to hand pies. And if you stick with the Cuisinart Stand Mixer, using the whisk attachment, they are 10x easier than you could ever imagine. Recipe via The Flavor Bender.

Ingredients

14. 5 oz white sugar
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup water for the gelatin
7 tsp gelatin (about 3 packets of Knox gelatin)
1 ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
1 cup confectioner’s sugar, sifted
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup white chocolate, melted
1/4 cup milk/dark chocolate, melted
*you might not use all of the chocolate so feel free to go down to 1/4 cup of each

1. Place the corn syrup and water in a pot. Stir until the sugar is moistened and mixed with the water. Heat over medium-high heat until the sugar syrup comes to a boil. Gently swirl the pan to evenly distribute the heat. Cover the saucepan with a lid and lower the heat to medium. Let the syrup cook for 2 minutes, keeping the lid on the entire time.

2. Clip the sugar thermometer to the side of the saucepan and continue cooking until the mixture reaches 242 – 245°F.

3. While the sugar syrup is cooking, prepare the gelatin by placing ½ cup of water in the Cuisinart stand mixer bowl. Add the gelatin to the water and gently stir until gelatin is moistened. Set aside to allow the gelatin to bloom while the sugar syrup is cooking (at least 10 minutes).

4. When the sugar syrup reaches the 242-245 degrees, remove it from the heat and allow the bubbles to subside. With your mixer fitted with the whisk attachment and set to a low/medium speed, pour the sugar syrup into the gelatin letting it run down the wall of the bowl to prevent the gelatin from being scorched by the hot sugar syrup. Add the salt and increase the speed to medium/high.

5. Whisk on medium/high for 10-12 minutes until the marshmallow base triples in size and is white, fluffy, and smooth.

6. While the marshmallow base is whisking, prepare the pan and all of the utensils you will be using by rubbing with shortening. An 8 x 8 pan is great for thick, puffy marshmallows. A 9 x 13 is great for those you want to cut with cookie cutters. Make sure you also brush all utensils – spoon, spatulas, etc. – with the same shortening.

7. Back to the marshmallows. Add the vanilla to the marshmallow base and whisk to combine, no more than a minute.

8. Scrape the marshmallow base into the prepared pan using an oiled scraper, we like a silicone spatula, then spread evenly.

9. Sieve confectioners sugar over the top of the marshmallow and allow the marshmallow to set for at least 6 hours.

10. Turn the marshmallows out onto a cutting board. Completely coat a round cookie cutter (minimum of 1. 5″ up to about 3″) in margarine and cut out your shapes. Brush off the top of the cut marshmallows to ensure the chocolate will stick. Use your melted chocolates to make the eyes, carrot nose, and mouth. We used a toothpick to apply the nose and placed our milk chocolate in a pastry bag with a #2 tip for the eyes and mouth.

DONUTS

My Cuisinart Air Fryer is the best thing that ever hit my kitchen counters. We use it constantly for just about everything. But the hands-down favorite air fryer recipe that is so quick and easy it’s almost embarrassing, are the air fryer donuts that my kids have no idea come from a can of biscuits.

1 can of biscuit dough (1 can makes 6 donuts)
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup confectioners sugar
1″ round cookie cutter

1. Preheat your Air Fryer. Using a small, 1″ round cookie cutter, punch a hole in the center of the biscuit. Place the “donuts” into the air fryer for 2-3 minutes, then flip and allow them to cook for another 2-3 minutes.

2. Remove from the oven, brush melted butter on both sides, then sift powdered sugar all over! Alternatively, you can place them in a plastic baggie filled with powdered sugar and shake them until they are coated! Best if served nice and warm!

CINNAMON ROLLS

Every Christmas morning (and with the current times, maybe even more,) we have Cinnamon Rolls. Homemade ones, because #specialoccassioncooking is real. I use my Cuisinart Stand Mixer, fitted with the dough hook, to ensure a perfect bake every single time. Also, I always double the frosting recipe because everyone loves a heavy hand when it comes to frosting.

The Ambitious Kitchen’s Recipe for BEYOND good Cinnamon Rolls. I have tried a million others and wish I could take credit for creating my own killer cinnamon roll recipe, but alas, why mess with a good thing!? Don’t forget to double the frosting!

WHITE CHOCOLATE BABKA

We used the dough recipe from The New York Times, as it’s a favorite of my family that never ever lets us down. We often switch up the fillings from chocolate to cinnamon sugar, but the one variation that gets devoured in mere hours is… White chocolate. I would love to see this layered with fresh jam but my purist kids just don’t agree. And they are normally the house winners

Ingredients

½ cup whole milk
1 package active dry yeast
⅓ cup granulated sugar, plus a pinch
4 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, more as needed
1 ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
4 large eggs, at room temperature, lightly beaten
10 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for greasing bowls and pans.                                                          1 cup white chocolate chips

For the Syrup

2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup water

1. In a small saucepan, warm the milk until it’s warm, around 110 degrees. Add the yeast and a pinch of sugar and stir to dissolve. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes until it’s bubbly.

2. Using a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, mix flour, 1/3 cup of sugar, salt, and vanilla. Add the yeast mixture and the eggs, beating until the dough comes together, about 2 minutes. The dough should be pulling away from the sides of the bowl. If it is still very sticky, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time. Add 1/2 of the butter (5 tablespoons) and pulse until the dough is nice and smooth about 5 minutes. Add the rest of the butter and beat for another 5 minutes.

3. Grease a medium to large-sized bowl with butter. Add the dough, gently rolling the base of the dough around the greased bottom of the bowl, then flip the dough over so that the buttered side is facing up. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and allow it to rise in a warm spot for 1. 5 hours or until it has doubled, or nearly doubled, in size (very warm spots will reach a double rise at about an hour, cooler might take as long as 2). Press down the dough and refrigerate overnight.

(Sometimes, I am very lazy about this step and while it does make a significant difference in the finished flavor, the unrested babka is still utterly delish)

4. When you are ready to bake your dough, remove the dough from the fridge and divide in half. Roll 1 of your pieces out to a large rectangle, about 9×17 or so. Let rest for 10 minutes. Melt 1 cup of white chocolate chips. Spread half of this all over your rectangle, leaving 1″ all the way around the border. Rolling from the long side, gently roll your dough much as you would a cinnamon roll. Repeat with the 2nd dough.

5. At this point, the easiest thing to do is wrap the roll in plastic wrap and freeze for about 15-20 minutes.

6. Once chilled, slice the roll in half lengthwise – you will have 2 long halves of the roll. Pinch the top points together and twist the halves together as if you were braiding them, then fold the braid in half so it’s about 9 inches long. Place into a prepared pan, letting it curl around itself if it’s too long. Cover loosely with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until puffy (it won’t quite double). Repeat with the other dough.

7. Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes watching very carefully. I like to bake mine for 30 minutes with foil on top, then remove the foil for the last 20 minutes. They should be 185-210 degrees on an instant thermometer.

8. While they are baking, make a quick simple syrup. Mix 2/3 cup water with 2/3 cup sugar and mix for about 2 minutes until the sugar has dissolved.

9. When the cakes are still warm from the oven, brush them liberally with the simple syrup. Try your hardest to let them cool completely before you eat them.

Color palettes, textures, and florals…OH MY! Today’s inspiration shoot at Sherwood Country Club is full of stunning textures, jaw-dropping floral arrangements, and a dreamy color palette all perfectly detailed by Kelly Patrice! When piecing together this shoot, Kelly wanted to look outside of the box (and the traditional ballroom) and utilize their lawn which is a true showstopper! From a champagne wall and unique welcome sign to a mix of blush and terracotta tones, this shoot had it all and don’t even get me started on Creative Light Design’s captivating florals. Take a peek below to see all of the magic captured by the one and only Jenny Quicksall. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

From Kelly Patrice…Sherwood Country Club is known for its traditional, classic designs with an emphasis on their brick and stately entrance into the club. When designing, I wanted to push the boundaries and do something a little unexpected, both in design and in space! Most of the weddings held at Sherwood utilize their expansive ballroom, but their lawn is the true showstopper for me. Oftentimes it is challenging for our clients to visualize what another style would look like at a venue that leans one specific way. My goal for this shoot (and in general) was to break those boundaries, put emphasis on vendors that have a more organic and textured look, and to have a lot of fun with flat lays.

I designed the ceremony space to take place on their beautifully kept lawn, looking out onto the gorgeous club and their entryway. Creative Light Design used the walkway as her inspiration and did growing greenery up the walkway as well as floor pieces that allowed the club and its trees to do the talking. We used benches as the seating for ceremony space, to bring in a little bit of a casual feel, rather than fancy chairs.

The bride was dressed by Lovella Bridal and wore two different gowns, something a bit more revealing, to bring her personality into the day.

The groom was dressed by Friar Tux, and also sported two different looks! We dressed him in tan, to allow the venue’s brick and expansive lawn to do the talking with color.

The stationery was an area that we put a lot of emphasis on. I always feel that it sets the tone of an event, and in this case, it really showcases the feel that we were going for. I designed a simple crest that we also used on the signage, to tie everything all together. Jenny Quicksall, the photographer, styled all of the flat lays perfectly and utilized the florals to be the perfect balance between paper and style.

I had the most fun designing the signage and cocktail hour space. Because the space still leans very traditional, we did a beautiful back bar filled with champagne glasses, custom calligraphy escort cards, and a silk ribbon adornment on each glass merging the playful/organic design with the traditional classic venue. All of the signage was done in bold colors, to bring in a little “pop” to what seems to be a very neutral palette. I love to get playful with signage, as it’s an area that you can add personality and also turn into a photo op moment for guests.

All of the rentals were hand-selected from Party Pleasers and brought the perfect amount of comfy to the venue. The lounge was the true showstopper, with pops of tan, mustard, and white that completely pops against the venue.

Lastly, the reception space. I decided to do the tables in an area that typically holds the ceremony. The farm tables adorned the layered and textured plates, as well as the stunning rose heavy florals. We wanted this space to feel a bit more formal, with brass bentwood chairs and tall taper candles.

With intimate weddings on the rise, couples are making the most of their very own backyards to create the wedding of their dreams! Today’s gorgeous Bride and Groom tied the knot at the Bride’s waterfront childhood home in Plymouth, MA. With some magic from Flair Floral and Event Design, their backyard transformed into a fairytale – complete with floral adorned trees, a waterfront ceremony spot, and a jaw-dropping tented reception! From Meredith Jane Photography… This couple has fought through thick and thin and made the most of every challenge their way. Alyse from Boston and Hunter from Mississippi first met at a group brunch with mutual friends in Washington, DC in 2015 and loved each other so much that they had a long distance relationship from DC to Boston for two of their five years together! Hunter even flew in for their surprise proposal and Alyse had no idea until she walked into her Charlestown apartment to him down on one knee. When their original plans had to change because of Covid-19, they didn’t skip a beat before putting together a floral and southern inspired soiree at Alyse’s waterfront childhood home in Plymouth, MA. All the way down to the details, they thought of everything they could to embrace the redirection they were given. 

The couple’s photographer, Meredith Jane Photography, and florist, Flair Floral and Event Design, went above and beyond and worked together to design the best way to add floral touches to allow for the tree and boulder filled sloped backyard to transform seamlessly into a perfect ceremony space leading up to the water. This included a tent entrance that overlooked the ceremony space and adding the perfect floral accents to trees to help them add to the ceremony space rather than detract. Hunter’s father, a retired minister, came out of retirement to perform their ceremony and the participation of both sides weaved the two families together in such a special way.

Despite the many adjustments made to ensure everyone’s health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, the reception felt intimate and personal and allowed for them to spend time with every guest and really savor the day. Each guest was given a personalized hand sanitizer bottle at their place setting. The smaller guest list allowed for additional special details like individual painted clam shells as place cards, collected from the beach behind our house by my mother and hand-painted by me. The clam shell place cards paid homage to a lifetime of family memories living on Cape Cod Bay and gave their guests a little piece of their private beach to take home with them.

Balancing your diet in today’s world is – to put it simply – challenging! With so much information out there it’s hard to pick a part what is right for you and how to eat what makes you happy while still being healthy. One way to check the box on healthy eating is to incorporate a few super foods into your diet. So, we chatted with Cara Clark, celebrity nutritionist, to discuss a few easy ways to add these super foods into your daily routine and, she even shared a few of her favorite recipes with us!

The “S” meals are my favorite ways to increase superfood consumption.

Smoothies – This is the best place to add powders that are hard to incorporate otherwise! We love encouraging our participants to add maca, spirulina, chlorella, camu camu and even collagen peptide powders. All of these powders carry exceptionally high antioxidants. We love the combination with already superfoods like berries, spinach and nuts!

Sauces – This is a great way to “sneak” in super foods like garlic, tomatoes, fresh herbs and even greens. Sauce is always smooth, so what you blend up in those powerhouse sauces is up to you! You can even mix avocado into fresh sauces to make it creamy!

Salads – From leafy greens to raw veggies like cucumbers, celery and carrots and even fruit like oranges and berries to the dressings made up of apple cider vinegar, this is a fantastic way to increase whole, superfoods. Instead of croutons, use a crunchy seed!

Stir fry – Think outside the box here, but if you do a traditional stir fry and add broccoli, cauliflower rice, chopped asparagus and so much more, even walnuts! Serve over zoodles or spaghetti squash and you will be pumping your superfood intake. Soup – Another good opportunity to “hide” your superfoods. Just like sauces, these can be blended to hide what you don’t want to see, but want to consume. Or hide from the picky eaters in your house. Either way, soup is a great opportunity to add a ton of veggies into your diet as well as bone broth, which is amazing for digestion and absorption!

Lastly, enhance your water with fresh fruit and herbs too! I love strawberries, lemon and basil and it makes for easily meeting your water intake needs! Try a few recipes below that include some of my favorite superfoods, and let me know what you think!

Green Mango Blast Smoothie
1 cup frozen mango chunks (add some as a topping)
2 stalks celery
2 big handfuls baby spinach
1 Tablespoon hemp hearts
Squeeze of lemon
¼ cup cashews (soak cashews overnight in ½ cup filtered water and drain)
1 scoop collagen peptides
6-8 ounces unsweetened coconut OR nut milk
Ice

Spinach Hummus Power Salad
2-3 cups baby spinach
1/ 3 cup shredded purple cabbage
¼ cup shredded carrot
1 hard- boiled egg, chopped
Chopped multi-colored bell pepper
¼ cup sliced mushrooms
5 sliced cherry tomatoes
2 ounces nitrate/preservative free turkey or chicken breast (vegetarian: omit the turkey/chicken breast and double the hard-boiled egg)
1 Tablespoon pepitas
Dressing: 2 Tablespoons hummus and squeeze of lemon juice

A trend we’re currently loving? At-home weddings! At the young age of seven, our bride scouted out the location of her future nuptials and then took to that same spot for one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever seen. Host and Haven created an event that was both coastal and classic, using the beauty of the venue to dictate the design. The joy and happiness of the day shines through in every image from Elizabeth Lanier Photography. For a touch of modern, Fern Studio used a mix of palms and greenery with ceramic, glass, and driftwood. Get swept away in the full gallery.

From Host and Haven… The bride’s family has a beach house in Debordieu, South Carolina, which is a coastal community. When Lauren was 7 years old, she told her parents exactly which beach she wanted to get married on. On August 17th, in the exact same spot, she married her soulmate amongst her closest family and friends.

The color palette we chose included ocean blues, subtle sea foam greens, delicate sun-kissed
yellows and creams, and natural linens. We wanted to evoke feelings of joy and familiarity and also tell the story of the surrounding landscape.

Under the Veil helped me created a custom installation that mimicked the movement of the water from the map on the ceiling. Each piece was cut to show layers of slight color differentiation, texture, and movement. Once the air was turned on, the fabric actually moved.

The thing about trends these days is that it’s less of a *new* idea coming into play and more of a revitalization of an idea. Case in point — the front and center use of wood tones as a primary color in a room is having a major moment. And we’re not talking about the shiny, cheery wood that actually wasn’t wood deep cabinet colors you grew up with. Oh no, now we’re looking at REAL wood that comes in multiple varieties, grains, and colors. This resurgence is a nod to a more natural aesthetic. It’s calming to look at and makes a space feel a little less “showroom” and a little more “collected.”

Check out some of our favorite examples!

1. Full Feature Spolight

A BIG way we’re seeing major use of wood tones is actually in making it the dominant feature in the whole design. We’re consistently drawn to this because it’s earthy, trendy, and just dadgum beautiful. Coordinate with the cabinetry can be tricky but when it’s done well, it’s gorgeous.

2. Accents Features In a Home

Another place we’re seeing wood tones really pop in when they’re used as accents to the space. Whether as a door or even as a ceiling treatment, putting wood in both expected and unexpected places makes it really stand out. This can also look like things like pillars, fireplace mantels, ceiling beams or even countertops.

3. Dominant Furniture Choices

There was a time when it felt like you painted EVERY piece of furniture that came into your house. But that time has now passed and gorgeous wood pieces are here to pop. When you’re working with bright white spaces, a little wood-toned furniture goes a loo0ong way.

4. Accessories Throughout The Home

If you’re trying to make your home feel a little more collected and peaceful, many times the solution is actually adding some wood accents to your space! Whether that’s a few candlesticks here, a cutting board there or a chair with wooden legs, adding small pops of nature-made warmth brings a lot of much-needed balance to your home.

We’ve been seeing this “trend” sneak into the home for a while now, and overall we have to give it a solid 10/10 in both short term aesthetic and long term lasting power. This is one trend train you won’t regret hoping on!

There’s nothing more romantic than when a couple incorporates traditions from their unique heritages to their wedding day. From leis to paper cranes, little nods to their Hawaiian culture were sprinkled throughout their SoCal day at The Biltmore – planned by Event of The Season. Coco Rose Design brought their vision to life with multiple floral arches and lush centerpieces. For an instant dose of vitamin D, check out the full gallery of details captured by Tanya Menoni.

From Tenth and Grace… Corey and Evan incorporated Hawaiian traditions into their beautiful Southern California wedding, held at the The Four Seasons Resort Biltmore in Santa Barbara. 

During the couple’s first look, Corey presented Evan with a traditional Hawaiian lei. 

The Hawaiian feel also extended to the reception decor, where thousands of paper cranes decorated the Biltmore ballroom and escort card display. 

Their beautiful outdoor ceremony was the scene of many laughs and tears, as the bride and groom wrote their own heartfelt vows. It was a gorgeous Fall day for these two to tie the knot!

Truth: These pink shot glasses of heaven are the only thing getting me through Monday, albeit virtually. They’re just one of the sweet treats in our Valentine’s Day party lineup this year, and they’re genius. Not only do they have a through-the-roof cuteness factor (those little gold spoons!), but they’re super quick and easy to whip up. Bonus points. Serves 0Ingredients

• 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
• 2 tbs butter
• 1 package softened cream cheese
• 1 vanilla bean, scraped
• 1 1/2 cup whipped cream
• 3/4 cup confectioners sugar

Instructions

1. Melt white chocolate chips in a double broiler.
2. Stir in butter. In the bowl of your stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, combine cream cheese, vanilla bean and melted white chocolate until well blended.
3. Add in the confectioners sugar and stir completely.
4. Fold in the whipped cream.
5. Add any food coloring and gently mix.

This living room is the EPITOME of cozy. Every element works together to give you a holistic, seasonal vibe but in a way that’s natural and well worked out. We knew we had to break it down! It’s just too good. The key to this room is texture and subtle, coordinating details. The kind of details that invite you to kick off your shoes and have a cup of coffee, all while preserve a sense of curated luxury.

1. The coffee table sets the tone for all of the other accessories — the rustic wood with the metal detail provides a great base for everything else too coordinate flawlessly
2. Instant cozy factor — a candle that not only smells good but looks good too.
3. Textured trays contain smaller elements while also adding a bit of diversity to your set up
4. Lanterns are a well-charactered way to tie in some of the metal elements
5. A large vase is never the wrong answer. Pop in some colorful seasonal stems and you’re good to go!
6. The pairing of a soft jewel-toned pillow with a supple leather pillow gives the whole couch a cozy facelift
7. The beige curtains paired with black rods bring the whole look together while elevating the eye.
8. Greenery always packs a punch, but when you’re dealing with something as fickle as an olive tree — not shame in going faux!

It’s official; this fall wedding has made us fall in love with love all over again. From the wedding ceremony under the sycamores to the alfresco reception filled with hanging greenery and antique chandeliers, each image by Tanya Menoniis is more beautiful than the last. Vanessa Noel Events elegantly executed this garden lover’s dream come true. From start to finish, every inch of this event overflows with artful arrangements in a sophisticated palette created by Noonan’s Wine Country Designs. From Tanya Menoniis… The magnificent 100 acre property Kestrel Park in Santa Ynez was completely transformed for Samantha and Kyler’s beautiful Fall wedding. The couple wed under the trees in front of their families and friends.

After the ceremony, guests entered a secret garden for cocktail hour. Once inside guests found greenery, candlelight and blooming flowers as far as the eye could see.

Vanessa Noel Events designed the most beautiful reception space that swept the couple off their feet. The entire night was a magical tribute to the love Samantha and Kyler share.

We were just tickled pink to see the blush dipped candles from our shop on the table! We already thought we loved them as much as we could, but seeing them as a part of this spread makes us love them EVEN more!

This sweet pink and green baby shower is giving us some MAJOR spring fever! Just take a look and you’ll get what we mean. Please take note of the AHmazing swing.

My sister, mother and I had the honor of throwing one of my life long best friends, Stephanie, (who is really more like family – we call her our sister!) a baby shower for her soon-to-be baby girl, Susannah.

Stephanie has begun decorating her nursery and the first thing that went up is this gorgeous green and white floral wall paper. She’s going to add accents of a sweet peachy-pink so it feels just right for baby girl. Given this information, we decided that a pink and green shower was the only way to go for our girl.

Stephanie’s style is very traditional and timeless; so we carried that throughout the design of the shower. Dixie Design gifted us with gorgeous invitations that featured a pink and green floral crest with pops of yellow butterflies. The envelope liner was a pink and white stripe, and I absolutely loved the mixture of patterns. The invitation set the tone for the day, so we matched everything we could to it to create a cohesive look.

We filled every nook and cranny we could with flowers that were gifted to us from Fifty Flowers. My mother, sister and I spent an entire day creating the arrangements which we so enjoyed. The flowers we chose from Fifty Flowers were: pink astilbe, white peonies, lily of the valley, dried blush Italian ruscus, dried pink canary grass, charity garden roses, dinner plate dahlias, light pink ranunculus, pink Japanese sweet peas, white with a hint of blush anemones, and various greenery.

Keeping with the floral theme, we rented a stunning pink and green floral linen from La Tavola which we placed a human sized floral arrangement on to create a big statement piece. We used this table for her guest book, which was a darling Beatrix Potter story book – everyone wrote a note to her future baby girl on a different page.

The shower was at 11am, the perfect time for brunch. The mother to be has celiac, so we made sure everything edible was gluten free, including the fried chicken and waffle bites – yum! Everyone sat around a long family style table dressed with white chivari chairs, pink taffeta linens, green shantung silk napkins tied with a white silk ribbon, and white chargers. Each place setting had a place card with their name hand painted by Shannon Kirsten and a few pieces of dried pink canary grass held on by a wax seal.

The florals on the dining table were in white vases we found from Target. Some had a scalloped edge and some had a sweet hobnail detail. We found they worked perfectly with the aesthetic we were trying to achieve. We finished brunch with cake – a piece of chocolate and a piece of vanilla (both gluten free!) from a local bakery, Hometown Desserts.

Time to move guests indoors to open presents. We opened presents around my sisters fireplace which was adorned with a beautiful piece of garland and a decorated cross on the mantle. The main focus of the room however, was the adorable bassinet that Stephanie registered for from Pottery Barn Baby. The white wicker gave it a vintage feel and it couldn’t have been cuter with a fluffy pink bow on top.

Once gifts were over, we sent everyone on their way with a small bouquet as their favor. We wrapped greenery and flowers in pink wax paper and tied them off with a bow and tag from Dixie Design that matched the invitation. All in all, the day was a big success and filled with lots of smiles and love for Stephanie and baby.

Love is in the (open) air at this elevated California camp wedding. For her wedding venue the bride chose the summer camp she worked as a counselor at, and the result is an outdoorsy dream come true. With the expert help of Jacqueline Hallgarth, the couple created an immersive and engaging weekend for all to enjoy. Artful flower arrangements by Amanda Vidmar Designs made guests feel transported to a magical place. The talented Laura Ford was there to capture all the details. From the bride… We wanted an “elevated camp” vibe. The location is stunningly beautiful, but we wanted to add some elements that took it from rustic to glam.

Our wedding reflected what we loved most: food, drinks, music and being together with our friends. That was our main focus, figuring out how we could make the experience immersive and engaging for our guests the entire weekend.

We wanted everyone to feel transported to a magical place they’d never been before. Our guests had the ability to hike, kayak, paddle board, paddle boat, or just lounge around camp with a glass of wine. A little something for everyone.

Saturated hues, edgy New York vibes, and a Southern California backdrop make for endless wedding day inspiration. Inspired by autumn in New York, Velvet Alley Events created a color story of amber, mustard, and ecru that will make your heart pump. No detail was spared, including floral choices by Besame Floral and Event Design based on the meaning behind each flower. Anya Kernes Photography’s beautiful imagery helps to bring this story to life. You’ll be delighted by all the details in the full gallery.

From Soltana of Velvet Alley Events… The Gardens at Los Robles Greens located in Southern California set the backdrop with its lovely blooming trees alluding to New York’s Central Park. The ceremony area’s details of the dark chestnut backdrop, lined brick, walls blanketed with vines, and majestic wrought iron gates were reminiscent of New York’s austere Brownstone neighborhoods.

Creating a story was the primary goal of Floral Designer Jazmin of Besame Floral and Event Design. Inspiration gleaned on the warm, transitional colors of Autumn and the symbolism of the blooms. Tawny Chrysanthemums in the bouquet symbolize loyalty and devotion. Sepia tinged garden roses represent warmth and stability. And plumes of Pampas Grass added a hint of Southern California coastal charm.

The bountiful tablescape accompanied with drapes of curtain fairy lights set the tone for an intimate, alfresco dining experience. And My Lovely Events created a chic, modern lounge vignette. Rounding out the décor is the neon “Love Made Us Do it” in cold, white LED as a playful commemoration to the nightscape billboard lights of Times Square.

It’s 1/11/2021 today, pretties, and we’re feeling all kinds of great about it. 2020 is past us (hooray!!) and this year is looking up. Although so much hardship, confusion, and disappointment transpired last year, our industry totally rose to the occasion, and we wouldn’t be sensationalizing by saying that weddings from here on out will be ultimately and unanimously wonderful. We know what can happen, so we’re prepared for affairs small and grand, serendipitous elopements or those planned, and everything micro-wedding-fitting, because we’re 100 percent stans. To our couples, our vendors, our venues, and our readers, let’s make 2021 the best year yet! 

Of course, with the arrival of a new year, we’re always quick to think about trends that we know will be popping up all over the 2021 nuptials landscape. But, this time around, we think it’d probably behoove us to look more at trends for the whole year versus trends for each season. COVID brought a lot of bad with it, but one of the silver linings to its pursuit of undoing is the dissolution of templatized events, gatherings, social experiences, and general time spent together. When it comes to one of the biggest and most momentous occasions then, a wedding, there isn’t a formula that couples have to show allegiance to anymore. You can go rogue and have it translate into the most resplendent, creative, and talk-worthy event ever. 

So, what does a wedding look like without a blueprint for its success? Well, for one, it’s incredibly personalized, and moreover it’s an experience that a couple can look back on and say ‘well, yeah, we had to keep things small and embrace a socially-distanced soiree, but OMG, it precipitated one of the coolest, most inspiring wedding transformations ever.’ Winter and spring wedding trends, summer and fall wedding trends, they’ve all brought us smiles, but mark our words: 2021 wedding trends are topping them all. (And they won’t be ending up on any ‘what trends to say goodbye to’ lists, either, because #timeless).

Read on for some of the trends we have on our radar for 2021 and what to shop to build a totally-new and totally-you look for your own best day ever.

An out-of-the-box welcome.

We’ve always been fans of the wedding welcome bag, but this year introduced us to the wedding box – and we’re still really wrapped up in the look of it. So, what’s new for this welcome box that wasn’t such a big thing for the bag? Well, 1) if you’re sticking with a smaller guest list, you can get a little more generous with the contents (not just a couple small nips of alcohol, a pair of water bottles, and a locally-sourced snack or two, these might have a reusable water bottle. a more full-size bottle of champs or the bride or groom’s favorite bottle, and personalized flutes or whisky glasses, etc.) and 2) since we’re still living in a COVID-conscious world, you might want to include curated hand sanitizers or colorful disinfecting mists to match your color palette and stylish, aesthetic-coordinated face masks that your guests can wear to your wedding.

Another great add? A handwritten thank you note that feels a lot more special and genuine. We’ve got so many pretty options to consider!

A reception with stations.

Yes, we’ve seen this before in cocktail hour food and drink action stations and impressive dessert hours with endless confection vignettes and coffee bar setups, but receptions to come are going to go ALL in on the mix and matched event areas. Drinks over here, food over there, something experiential going on in the front (think: your photo booth, an artist or a cool live entertainment ensemble), or a luxe lounge locale in the back.

Our thoughts on a fun way to call these creative stations out? Neon signage, of course. First comes a tiny toast with those you love the most in your bridal suite (we like this one, because the party don’t start, till some bottles get popped), then comes all the sweet moments you know you and your guests will LOVE (this one is perfect for above the photo booth area or wherever the wedding cake is being displayed), and finally, what’s a proper sendoff without some hydration for the road? Hang our ‘don’t go thirsty’ sign up above your send off station, so your nearest and dearest can grab a snack and sips to go – canned mocktails are a must!!

A turn up for your tablescapes.

So, speaking of mixing and matching – guest table arrangements and setups have gotten a lot more intriguing and intentional since social distancing became a thing. In the past, we’d pack dozens and dozens of tables into a reception area and they’d all end up looking the same, which ends up feeling really bleh, to be honest. Nowadays, since we’re tasked to finesse a fete with an appropriate distance between tables, we can get really design-y and editorial with the audience ambiance. 

We’re big fans of using a blend of round and square, big and small tables, to create drama in the room – and going extravagant with the table toppers is the necessary next step! 👉 Designing your wedding tablescape(s) is a lot easier than you think!

Candles will be your best friend to light up the look of your tables, as will delicate drinking glasses that nod to your special day.

Special seats for the guests of honor.

We love a good sweetheart table, truly we do, but intimate weddings as of late have brought the couple back into the company of their closest friends and fam – and we’re SO here for it. Whether you’re sitting down with your wedding party or pulling up a chair at a super-long banquet table that hosts ALL of your bests, you’ll want to stand out. We’ve got quite a few bride and groom and couple-of-the-day chair signs that bring totally charming personalization to your seating assignments. 

Tented transformations that transcend twinkle lights.

Tented weddings have been big for years, but recent events have made them even more coveted, because #outdoordigsmakedistancingeasier. That being said, the gold standard in tent-elevating tricks, for nearly a decade, has been twinkle or fairy lights or, even more recently, floral chandeliers. They look stunning, for sure, but this year, we’re excited to see more high-concept hanging decor and installs being swapped in.

Enter our Style Me Pretty iron hanging chandeliers. Beautiful on their own, these gorgeous hanging pieces have 3 bands that swivel to form a 18″ wide x 25″ tall chandelier. Simply rotate to move the bands in place, tighten, and start decorating! We like fresh or faux florals, but you can absolutely take those twinkle lights, crystals, or ribbon and weave them in for a really fun custom chandelier creation. The best part, though? Once your wedding is over, you can repurpose these pieces in your home with seasonal greenery for year-round use! 

Another idea? Use something like our wedding backdrop banner to hang up around the perimeter. It’s also a a blast to run through if you’re doing wedding party introductions! Great photo opp potential!

If you’re a bride that lives for high fashion, but loves an old world feel – this one’s for you! Leave it to Lauren Fair and Arielle Fera Events to bring the romance and allure of Europe to the States. They designed a shoot that incorporates the old-world character of Elkins Estate, infused with a modern feel. If you didn’t already know, Elkins Estate is a 45-room manor built in the style of Italian High Renaissance – smack dab in the suburbs of Philadelphia! From Lauren Fair Photography… The concept for this shoot was centered around a historic estate, Elkins Estate, that is currently being revitalized into a luxurious new wedding venue in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Our team sought out to produce inspiration that incorporates the old-world character of Elkins Estate while infusing a modern + very romantic feel. High fashion, yet approachable for a bride. We designed this shoot with a high-end bride in mind; one that loves fashion, the richness that comes with a historic, opulent, gilded venue but also loves refinement through modern details. Elkins Estate, owned by Landmark Venues; is a 45-room manor built in the style of Italian High Renaissance.

The unique interior features, such as the ornately carved wood and gilded molding, marble columns and accents, frescoed ceilings, gargoyles and the like, were crafted in Europe and shipped to the United States, where they were assembled on site. The interior was designed by renowned French interior decor experts Allard et Fils, which accounts for the distinctly French feel in some of the rooms. The Estate sits on 42 rolling acres. It is the perfect venue for a couple who wants a European feel for their wedding without having to travel overseas. The venue is so vast and offers amazing indoor and outdoor spaces, we decided to feature two couples in order to capture the grandness of the venue. We also featured designer gowns by some of the designers in the industry. For a bride that loves fashion, one dress is clearly not enough. This shoot is rich with beautiful dresses that are both high-fashion yet approachable and extremely romantic and feminine. For the shoot we opted for a romantic palette consisting of muted + rich tonal shades of blush, cream, light rusty peach, café au lait and cream all accented with hints of gold.

Ashley and Emmanuel are an engaged couple who modeled for us. Twisted Willow Flowers created a gorgeous + sprawling ceremony arch that was set on one of the Estate’s elaborate outdoor staircases. It is a beautiful backdrop for the couple to be elevated above their admiring guests. Ashley wore gorgeous designer gowns by designer Alon Livne provided by Jessica Haley Bridal and designer gowns by Alon Livne and PRONOVIAS provided by La Belle Mariee. Ashley’s makeup was subtle and soft while her hair was styled into a dramatic power ponytail by Michele Wilderman. The gorgeous jewelry that she wore was provided by Kellmer Jewelers. Their wedding cake was creatively crafted by NutMeg Cake Design to be reminiscent of a sculpture that complements the stateliness of the venue. Arielle Fera Events curated a gorgeous ensemble of lounge furniture from White Glove Rentals that was styled on one of the grand balconies. A hand-drawn venue sketch adorned the couple’s invitation suite that was beautifully designed by PaperTree Studio.
