The bride curated a vibrant mood board overflowing with color, and once I saw the venue, it was clear that orange, reflecting her favorite hotel brand (GHT), had to be a must. With the reception set among banana trees, the color palette and floral arrangements naturally evolved into a lush, tropical-inspired celebration.

The design reflects the character of the space—we always strive to honor the venue rather than change it. As a company, we believe that when people travel far to experience Italy, the decor should highlight its beauty. The lake became the natural focal point and backdrop, while the bride’s infectious joy inspired a vibrant take on the Italian dolce vita. With no shade in the area, we embraced a playful trend of umbrellas to evoke the feeling of an Italian holiday. Every detail, from table linens to florals, was curated to create the illusion that the tables were already part of the space, seamlessly blending design with the surroundings.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]
In the summer of 2023, Peyton and I both found ourselves back in Atlanta after years away. He had just returned from Boston, where he completed his internal medicine residency, and I had moved back from Columbus after finishing occupational therapy school. Dating in your late twenties can feel discouraging, and after a string of uninspiring dates, I was ready to give up. That’s when my sister and brother-in-law—Hinge success stories themselves—encouraged me to give online dating another try. Having tried it before in Ohio, I was hesitant, but they insisted that upgrading to Hinge+ would make all the difference. So, for $12.95, I took the plunge—and just a few days later, Peyton entered the chat. Looking back, that was the best return on investment I’ve ever made. We nearly missed our first date due to a last-minute complication at the hospital, but somehow, we made it happen. By our second date, we were venturing beyond the city, spending a Sunday afternoon exploring Sweetwater Creek State Park. Peyton will tell you I interrogated him; I prefer to say I was simply making sure I didn’t waste time. As it turns out, he passed with flying colors—no red flags after all. Fast forward to the following August: Peyton left early one Saturday morning for “rounds” at the hospital, while I had plans to walk Sweetwater Creek with my friend Sarah. What I didn’t know was that Peyton and Sarah had been secretly plotting. She lingered in the bathroom just long enough for Peyton to slip in behind me, setting the stage for a moment that would change everything. We made our way to the same rock where we had spent hours talking the previous September—a place already etched in our story. And although the details blur in the haze of joy, one thing is certain: Peyton asked, and I said yes.

I had never been the type to daydream about my wedding dress—likely a result of my indecisive nature when it comes to choosing clothing. Like many brides, I turned to Pinterest for inspiration before my bridal appointments. Heading into dress shopping, I was certain of two things: I did not want lace, and I did not want a strapless gown. Two boutiques and twelve dresses later, I found myself standing in Anne Barge Atelier, certain I had discovered the one. To my surprise, she was both strapless and adorned with lace. The Rhodes gown perfectly embodied my vision of timeless elegance. The gown was perfected by the addition of a detachable train, offering two distinct looks without the need for a formal outfit change.

For Peyton, we knew a black-tie look was essential. We turned to Miller Brothers, a local men’s boutique, where they crafted a custom tuxedo—an elegant piece he’ll continue to wear for years to come. The look was finished with velvet loafers—stylish yet surprisingly comfortable, as Peyton happily reported.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]The dinner followed the traditional Italian style of shared dining, with generous dishes placed in the center of the table for everyone to enjoy. The food felt endless—from the appetizers to the pizza and the pasta courses—each plate a true symphony for the palate. Our florist came highly recommended by the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, and choosing Marina of Imagiflora Flower Design was an easy decision thanks to her warm personality and genuine enthusiasm for our vision. She and Danila worked in perfect harmony, and the results were nothing short of breathtaking. Our guests—and we ourselves—are still raving about the enchanting garden that graced the center of our reception table. Words could never fully capture the artistry, but one glance at the ceremony speaks volumes about the quality and beauty of her work.

We had admired Seb Chaumont and the Bopster Blues from afar long before inviting them to be part of our celebration. Mackenzie’s sister, Jordan, discovered them on Instagram months before we were even engaged, and from that moment, they felt like the perfect fit. Their music was the embodiment of sophistication and charm—an ideal complement to the whimsical elegance of an Italian wedding on Lake Como. With their class and vibrant personality, they brought our lakeside celebration to life in the most unforgettable way. Our guests are still raving about this incredible quartet—their music left an impression that continues to resonate long after the celebration.

Thanks to the planner: Planning a wedding from across the ocean felt like an overwhelming challenge. After exploring elopement blogs and gathering recommendations from vendors, Mackenzie reached out to several planners. What set Danila apart was her ability to embrace our vision wholeheartedly and her expertise in transforming dreams into reality. She seamlessly orchestrated our vendors into a harmonious celebration—whimsical yet refined, vibrant yet never overpowering—perfectly capturing the essence of an Italian garden party. At every step, Danila ensured our wedding reflected who we are, all while remaining mindful of logistics and budget. Looking back on both the planning process and the wedding day itself, we wholeheartedly agree: Danila was our greatest investment. Quite simply, our wedding would not have been possible without her

ceremony: We cherish in our hearts the family and friends who traveled all the way to Italy to spend our wedding day with us. We are both the youngest children in our respective families, and our older siblings have blessed us with nearly a dozen nieces and nephews – all of whom made the trip over. The two eldest nieces – Emmeline and Frankie – served as our flower girls. At first, we were hesitant to include the children, but having them there and involved really added a special element that we will always remember and hold dear. One of Peyton’s closest friends, Phillip, had the honor of officiating our ceremony. He devoted so much time and care to crafting a service that felt deeply personal—thoughtful, heartfelt, and a true reflection of our love story.

A favorite memory that makes us cheer up: From Peyton: seeing Mackenzie in her wedding for the first time at our first look. I cried. She cried. We wrote each other letters to read to each other as our own private vows. It took a few minutes before we could choke out the words to each other, and they got littered with tear stains in the process. By far the happiest moment of my life thus far. From Mackenzie: Seated beside my husband at the head of the table, we watched as the staff of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo presented freshly baked pizzas to begin the evening feast. To our left, the sun dipped gracefully behind Lake Como, casting a golden glow across the water. The Bopster Blues wandered through the garden, filling the air with quintessential Italian melodies, while the table shimmered under the soft glow of candles and café lights, illuminating a breathtaking array of flowers. All around us, guests mingled joyfully, savoring delicate Italian bites and sipping local wines—a scene that felt like a dream brought to life. A particularly happy moment from the day: Immediately after the ceremony, we slipped away aboard a classic Riva Aquarama—courtesy of Yacht Club Eriolario, whom we cannot recommend highly enough—for a series of breathtaking photos and, unexpectedly, a few precious moments alone as newlyweds. While our guests settled into happy hour, serenaded by the Bopster Blues with chilled Aperol spritzes in hand, we found ourselves gliding across the water, savoring the quiet and the beauty of Lake Como. That brief escape gave us something invaluable: time to breathe, reflect, and simply revel in each other’s company on our most special day. Any advice we’d give to other couples planning their wedding: Wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful! Every couple has titsown style and vision, but finding a planner early in the process—someone who truly understands your dream and is committed to bringing it to life—can make all the difference. Knowing that Danila and her team were working tirelessly behind the scenes gave us the freedom to be fully present—both throughout our engagement and on our wedding day. If you’re planning a destination wedding, give yourselves the gift of time by arriving a few days early. We spent five unforgettable days on Lake Como before our celebration, which allowed us to adjust to the time zone, unwind, and simply bask in our love before the big day. Those moments together were priceless. Also, we want to give a heartfelt shout-out to the Grand Hotel Tremezzo and their exceptional staff. They truly embody the standard of world-class hospitality, living up to their reputation as one of the finest five-star hotels in the world. Every corner of the property is meticulously cared for, and the cuisine was as exquisite in flavor as it was in presentation. Our guests are still raving about the steak and fish, grilled tableside and served with such artistry during our reception. From check-in to check-out, the staff went above and beyond—gracious, attentive, and genuinely invested in creating an unforgettable experience. They didn’t just meet expectations; they exceeded them in every way.
