Colorful Rustic Wedding

No one does rustic chic quite like the state of Texas.  From the cowboy boot donning brides to the lace-covered gowns to the lovely burlap infused in every last stunning detail, you ladies and gents have it down in spades.  And this gorgeous Pecan Springs Ranch affair?  Well, it’s all of the aforementioned with a touch of romance that will make your head spin.  See it all captured by Mint Photography right here.

From the Bride… Our chic Texas wedding took place on July 13, 2013 in the heat of a summer day under the shady pecan trees at the gorgeous Pecan Springs Ranch in Austin, TX. We added alot of DIY flare to our wedding to make it unique to us, and involved a lot of talented friends and family in the making of our special day. My husband and I are both from Austin but currently live in Arizona, so we also wanted a down home, backyard party, bright and summery, full-on Texas feel to our wedding.

I had always envisioned an outdoor wedding but with a chapel feel for the ceremony, so my dad helped me to create a wall out of old barnwood that came from a 1900’s shed from behind my great grandparents’ house. We removed the old white doors as well so that I would be able to have “chapel doors” to walk through for the ceremony. My dad also created an arch out of cedar trees from our ranch and surprised me by putting a cross on the top of the arch to finish off the old chapel look.

Another project we worked on was a popcorn stand during our cocktail hour for our guests to munch on prior to the buffet opening. My husband’s family owns a kettle corn business and made three different flavors of popcorn the day before the wedding for our guests. It was a huge hit! We also had my husband’s favorite donut shop, Round Rock Donuts, make a bunch of glazed and chocolate donuts for our wedding instead of doing a groom’s cake. Our guests loved them and they were gone before we even cut the cake!

My sweet friend Kortni recently started a flower business and I had her do all of my floral design and bouquets. She did an amazing job and I was so impressed by her work, especially on the arch! I also collected bottles, wood boxes, and jars for months to decorate our tables with and the look turned out better than I had hoped for.

Another incredibly talented friend, Kate Stafford, did all of our paper design including invitations, programs, and thank you cards on the place settings. She did a beautiful job and I was so pleased with the way they all turned out!

Our wedding planner, Paige, is so detailed and creative. She made all of the chalkboards and displays at the wedding and blew me away with her gorgeous style. I could not have made it through the day without her and was so impressed with her work.

Mint Photography shot the photos of our wedding and Kelly’s work is stunning. She captured the feel of our day so perfectly and makes the lighting look amazing! She’s fabulous and I’m so thankful for the way our photos turned out.

Lastly, I had a seamstress (and also amazing designer) from my hometown make the flower girl dresses. We found fabric from a store in town and then she got creative with making the dress. I thought they turned out adorable! The bridesmaids all chose their own dress in different shades of gray and found them from stores like BHLDN, J.Crew and Etsy. I chose gray because I wanted their gorgeous flowers to stand out against the color of the dress. The groomsmen wore white shirts with khaki pants and then created their own style of Vans shoes in gray.

We love how all of the details turned out!

Modern Indian Laguna Gloria Wedding

Leave it to a pair of architects to plan the most visually appealing wedding I think  I’ve ever laid eyes on. The juxtaposition of the 1920s venue and the modern decor, all captured brilliantly by Q Weddings, has quickened my pulse to a level I reserve only for the prettiest of all the pretty fetes!

From Q Weddings… Nisha and Pablo chose Laguna Gloria as it is architecturally unique in Austin. Formerly a private residence and now an art museum, Laguna Gloria is a Spanish Italianate villa built in the 1920s. The grounds are filled with gardens, oak trees and sculptures. It’s beautiful in March, making for an elegant garden party, with guests dining al fresco.

The overall effect of the decor was clean, simple, sophisticated:
– Since Nisha and Pablo are both architects, they wanted to balance the classic 1920s building with a modern aesthetic.
– The table centerpieces and cocktail hour florals were succulents in vases made of gray concrete, dipped in paint in the color of Yves Klein blue.
– The table linens were cinder gray linen.
– The table numbers were the colorful NYC subway symbols for the various subway lines that are special to Nisha and Pablo.
– The invitations were letterpressed in a charcoal gray, with a playful typography style.

Items of significance:
– Since it was Easter Sunday, eggs were hidden around the grounds and the many children in attendance had a blast scooping up the eggs and finding the treats inside.
– Guests of all cultural backgrounds honored Nisha’s Indian heritage by wearing saris and having their hands henna’d the day before at the mehndi.
– A Spanish guitarist and stand-up bass played before the ceremony and during cocktail hour. The ceremony floral arrangements were more succulents, but this time in tall, traditional vases, surrounded by blooming bougainvillas. During the processional, all of the children were honored by being asked to walk down the aisle before the bride and her father.
– Nisha and Pablo’s grand exit was in a yellow cab, as a nod to New York City where they live.

Romantic Barr Mansion Wedding

The romantic Texas wedding and Forever Photography Studio go hand in hand, but when you add in Barr Mansion and a wedding this beautiful, it’s a whole new level of pretty. The kind of pretty that makes you suddenly realize you’ve spent hours in the gallery – even though it’s only felt like minutes.

From the beautiful bride… Mauricio and I met at a mutual friends birthday party at a lounge bar in Houston in 2007. As cheesy as it sounds I still think it was fate because neither of us really wanted to go out that night but did because we each had a friend who insisted we go. He said one thing to crack me up and I think we saw each other every day from that moment on.

The Barr Mansion was the first venue I visited and I instantly knew this was it. I was living in austin at the time going to culinary school while Mauricio was in Houston.Ii knew he would love it as well but I still visited a few more venues just to be sure but nothing compared to the rustic coziness of Barr Mansion.

For the overall look and style of the wedding, I wanted to stay away from the over the top elegant look and have a more relaxed wedding decor with warm colors. I just kind of worked around my favorite colors, olive green, lavender, coral, and gold.

The most important thing for us was that everyone have a fun time at the reception and thats why we made it a priority to have tons of fun props and shots for the reception.

Because my dad passed two years before our wedding I made sure to have a little section dedicated to him.

Modern Wedding at TRACE at The W Hotel

At the intersection of modern and traditional, you’ll find this pretty, pretty wedding, and I’ve just discovered my new favorite wedding category. It’s got all the classically beautiful elements, but the modern touch brings an edgy feel to the day that I just can’t get enough of. The Mullers have graciously put together a stunning gallery for those of you who just can’t get enough either!

From the stunning bride… From the onset we knew we wanted more of a modern, metropolitan feel for our wedding — which we knew would prove difficult in a very country, rustic-friendly city like Austin. But when we found TRACE Restaurant at the W Hotel we knew we had found the perfect venue for our wedding day vision.

The week of the wedding, a fluke cold front hit, putting a damper on my combination indoor/outdoor reception. But looking back I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

When I walked into the main dining room, I was taken back at how beautiful everything came together. Scott Darby from TRACE at the W Hotel and Amber from Heavenly Day Events, were quite a power duo. They took our vision and created more than I could’ve even imagined. The white on white dessert table was not only beautiful, but also fun for guests. The music and lights display, provided by Robert from DJ Innovative Entertainment, created such a fun party atmosphere for guests from all generations. The highlight of the night was definitely our surprise Colombian dancers! CaliRumba put on a jaw-dropping performance and then got our guests in on the fun by teaching them to salsa! To top everything off, this wonderful celebration was captured so beautifully by Lauren and Daniel of The Mullers Photography.

Our wedding was an intimate, elegant, fun and magical day and it’s all thanks to the wonderful team behind it!

Spring is in the air today on the East Coast making this Austin wedding all the more sweet. Crafted by Green Pastures with beautiful images by Christina Carroll Photography, have a look here for the full day.

Adrienne and Andrew were the sweetest couple to work with! They planned a gorgeous spring wedding at Green Pastures located in the heart of Austin. The ceremony took place on the nice green lawn under a huge oak tree. There was a lot of laughter and tears of happiness! The cocktail hour took place on the cobblestone patio. The guests chatted and drank cocktails while we took some pictures in the gardens. Everyone danced the night away during the reception!

2 Year Anniversary Shoot + WIUP

We celebrate a lot of love on this little ol’ blog, BUT it’s not every day we get to see a couple two years past “I do.” Lucky for us, Michelle Boyd snapped an at-home anniversary sesh that’s the cherry on top of a pretty-filled week, and you can swoon every shot right over here. Psssst: don’t miss winners, discounts and giveaway reminders below. Happy Friday, SMPers!

From Michelle Boyd… Jessica (of Jessica Christine Photography) and Will Scott have been married for 2 years! This past year they moved into the most adorable house and have made it their own little haven. Sitting with a cup of coffee in their living room is incredibly peaceful, and getting to photograph them in their beautiful home was such a treat! Pair their West Elm, mid-century modern style with the cutest golden retriever puppy ever and your heart melts instantly.

From Jessica… I can’t even believe my husband Will and I have been married for two years already! It seems like just yesterday that we were walking down the aisle as newlyweds. Where does time go? This past year has held so many exciting things for us, including purchasing a house only a few months ago.

Will and I both love being able to entertain friends in our home, and it was one of the main reasons we bought a house. We want our house to be warm, welcoming, and a place where people can come and feel safe and loved. To me, a home is a refuge; a place that should feel like a breath of fresh air when walking through the doors, and I personally think that we have accomplished that goal. I love every second that we spend cuddling on the couch or having friends over for “Sunday Lunch.” It is such a blessing to be able to love on people by inviting them into our space.

Commemorating our two years of marriage in our new home was so special. Knowing that this home has a future filled with laughter, love, kiddos, dinners with friends, and many puppy kisses (from our adorable pup, Rigby!) puts a smile on my face. And having photos from when it all began is just so precious to me. I’m excited to see how our home changes as well as how my husband Will and I grow as the years go by!

Rustic Yellow Vista West Ranch

For me, there is nothing better than a good love story. Call me sappy, sure, but a sweet beginning, a romantic middle, all leading up to a beautiful wedding day get’s me like nothing else. AJH Photography captured just such a love story at Vista West Ranch and I’m a sappy mess. Typical.

From the stunning bride… Our love story began back in 2008, when the two of us met through mutual friends. During our Senior year, David and I grew closer as friends- even though I knew he was secretly in love with me. I always knew that he was interested in me. Throughout our senior year David and I continued to grow closer as friends and part of me could always picture myself being with him long term, but I didn’t want to ruin our friendship with a failed relationship. David always went out of his way to impress me and show me that he cared for me through being a gentleman, going out together and being my prom date (which he did by painting rocks my favorite color and spelling out “prom? that would rock” in a nice remote spot overlooking a creek in our neighborhood park.)

After high school I went to The University of Texas at Austin to pursue my education, while David joined the Army and was stationed in Alaska. Shortly after, David deployed to Afghanistan. During his deployment, we talked as often as possible. Part of me always knew that David was the one for me and once he came home we finally decided to start dating. Over the next three years we had a long distance relationship from Alaska to Afghanistan again and back. On December 21st 2012, on his vacation after his second deployment, David invited me over to his parents house for dinner while the rest of his family was away. I had no idea what was about to happen. While preparing dinner for the two of us, David told me that he had to step out back to move some wood for his dad and told me he might need my assistance. I was reluctant to do so. David stepped out and came in shortly after to ask for my help. We walked out back together and to my surprise, I see a beautiful purple heart of lights laying in the center of the yard with lights wrapped around the surrounding trees. I knew then that I wasn’t going to be helping him with the yard work, but that the moment I had been patiently waiting for was about to happen. David got down on one knee and asked me to be his prom date for life along with being his wife. Thus began the next chapter of our lives.

Over the next 10 months I planned our wedding while he was back in Alaska finishing out his service. I always knew I wanted a rustic wedding with a touch of vintage flair, and had always dreamed of getting married in an old barn, which all panned out perfectly! Vista West Ranch was always my top choice for my venue- and we were lucky enough to book our wedding at the place I had always hoped for! The planning process of our wedding was such a joy! I am the type of girl who knows what she wants and is extremely detail orientated, so putting together all my thoughts and ideas into action was really fun and easy to do.

My style inspiration was pulled from my love of lace, mason jars, florals and of course Pinterest! Vista West Ranch had all I wanted wrapped up in one! My wedding day was more than I could have ever imagined. David and I shared many moments that I will never forget, but one that will always stick with me is when we had our first look. That moment, where it was just the two of us was perfection. I had thought a lot on what I wanted to give David during our first look, and I figured I should bring it all back to the moment he won my heart- Senior year 2008. When I walked up to my handsome groom awaiting my arrival, I knew exactly what I wanted to say. As David turned around it truly sunk in that today was the day we had been waiting for. We were about to be husband and wife. After saying tons of mushy gushy stuff, I had one last thing to ask David before we said I do. I opened my hand and gave David a purple rock from when he asked me to prom and asked him “Marriage? It would rock” It was the perfect moment, one that was so special to the both of us that signified the beginning of it all.

I could tell that her excitement about this new chapter of life would translate into a gorgeous day and it certainly did! Aside from the beautiful sunny ceremony there was a gorgeous dinner and amazing party band that kept the guests celebrating all night long!

Elegant Garden Wedding

If there’s one thing we love more than anything else in wedding fashion, it’s a line up of the prettiest ‘maids around, all chicly dressed in a stunning frock that plays with their individual personality. Any bride who has the brilliant mindset to let her girls pick their dress is just plain cool. The bride in this wedding from Q Weddings is cool and then some, and here is your proof!

From Q Weddings… “Tri-coastal” wedding… London, California, Texas. Groom is from UK, bride from Texas and they live in California, so the guest list was a mix of those places. Many of the British women wore fascinators. The groom wore an Alexander McQueen suit that he purchased on Savile Row. Elegant garden wedding at historic Spanish italianate Villa. Decor was white with touches of blush and gold. Long European table with candelabras and chandeliers. Bride and groom’s chargers were edged in gold and all flatware was gold. Bridesmaids wore black, groomsmen wore gray. The groom’s last name is Bell, so everyone lined up and rang bells to send the new couple off at the end of the night.

Book Lover Wedding Ideas

When you’ve got a love for something (other than your sweetheart), nothing makes your wedding day more special than incorporating that special little something into your day. Take this bride – lover of antique books, she and Jessica Christine Photography pulled together a bridal session centered around that love and it’s extra special because of it!

From the beautiful bride… I love all things antique and rustic. My very favorite find is always a good old, beaten down antique book. I love that each one has its own unique story. My love for antique books quickly became my inspiration when it came time to plan my wedding. Add an old jar, vintage typewriter, gorgeous wooden ladder, and beautiful flowers and you have a stunning shoot. It all reminded me of Beauty and the Beast, with the combination of books and the ladder. How fitting that my last name is becoming “Guest”. Be our Guest!

One of my favorite parts of the shoot was incorporating the letters that my fiance wrote to me when he proposed. He wrote me four letters that I opened over the course of an evening at different stops on a scavenger hunt around town. He assigned a word to each letter of my name as the theme for each note…Lovely, Enchanting, Admirable, and Hilarious. You can even see the tear stains on the letters from that night, it was so sweet I couldn’t handle it! I’m so glad these made an appearance, since they were such a special part of our engagement.

Jessica did such a wonderful job making my inspiration come to life, capturing every detail so beautifully!

Autumn Wedding at Barr Mansion

Filled to the brim with some of the most gorgeous jewel-toned hues I’ve ever seen, this Barr Mansion beauty designed to perfection by Mayhar Design makes me want to jump out of my chair and do a happy dance. It’s pin-worthy prettiness captured by Christine Sargologos Photography from start to finish , and you can get to pinning right here.

From the Bride…Brent and I met in business school at Cornell University in the fall of 2009. Despite having roots on opposite coasts–Brent from Southern California, and me being from Connecticut–we embarked on our new journey as graduates and a couple in Texas. Brent proposed to me on 12.20.2012. It was a special day that Brent planned, filled with Austin fun to mark off the beginning of our holiday “stay”cation. At the end of the evening, Brent insisted on walking through Auditorium Shores park, our favorite spot to take our dog, on our way home. With the skyline in the background, Brent proposed to me in the park and I excitedly accepted.

Since we had made Austin our new home together, it only seemed natural to get married here. With our families far away and two demanding work schedules, I knew we couldn’t undertake wedding planning on our own. After meeting Melanie and Ashleigh from Mayhar, I knew that we had met the perfect planners. Their impeccable taste, knowledge of local vendors, and creative ideas were exactly what we needed.

We gave the Mayhar team some color ideas and the broad description of having an “elegant, but relaxed” evening. Mayhar incorporated all of our ever evolving ideas and made them a reality. Despite the tropical storm, which dumped lots of rain on Austin, the day was above and beyond our expectations. Every detail represented “us,” from the flowers, to the chalkboards, to the table settings. The day was truly the best day of our lives, and we have the team at Mayhar, our floral designers, the Nouveau Romantics, and our photographer Christine Sargologos to thank. It was even better than the wedding we of our dreams…we just wish we could live it all over again.

From Mayhar Design:
From the moment we met them, Elisa and Brent were a complete and total joy to work with. They are the type of couple and client you dream about as they are loving, energetic, respectful and so much fun to collaborate with. As we walked together through the planning process all the way from design concept and vendor selection up until the wedding day, we truly enjoyed every moment and are so thankful to have been a part of their lives.

Early on, Elisa knew that she wanted a rich and colorful Spanish inspired color palette. Upon visiting the charming Barr Mansion and falling in love, we worked to tweak our Spanish design towards an eclectic Southern wedding with deep and lush jeweled, berry tones. I cannot say enough about the exquisite and breathtaking work of The Nouveau Romantics, and we were thrilled to have Liz and her lovely team on board. The sweet and wonderfully gifted Roxanne Spradlin created our fabulous menu and seating chart chalkboard artpieces. And, the incredibly talented Christine Sargologos beautifully and lovingly captured the day as it unfolded.

As it turned out, September 20th was a day filled with torrential rains, muddy paths and umbrella strewn porches and entryways, as we ran back and forth between buildings for photos, set-up and finally, showtime. What should have been stressful and discouraging, was one of the most beautiful days I have ever been a part of. The love and excitement that flowed from family and friends was tangible and the pure joy that came from Elisa and Brent as they looked forward to committing the rest of their lives to each other was incredible. We are so thrilled to have been a part of this wedding and to know such a beautiful couple! We love you both and wish you the world of happiness!

From the Bride… The reason we chose to elope rather than plan a big white wedding was because we both realized that we wanted to avoid all the stress and expectation that comes with not only planning a wedding but executing one as well! The morning of the wedding we tried to stay as calm and worry-free as possible! We took some friends and family out for an early lunch and then all gathered up in Austin for the Friday evening ceremony. Although broken cell phones, lots of traffic, and scattered thunderstorm tried to sway our moods, Chris and I were so focused on each other that nothing was going to spoil the day for us. Our intimate ceremony at Laguna Gloria was everything that we had hoped for. As Chris and I walked around the lagoon to the ceremony we remembered all of the amazing moments we had together leading to this moment. As left over rain drops fell from the trees our officiant and best friend Ryan Reed gave us words of love and encouragement. Being able to say our own vows to each other was by far highlight of the day for us. Once we said our “I do’s” and took some great pictures we headed back to the house to fire up the brick oven and make some homemade pizzas with a few friends and family who were a part of the day. We spent the rest of the night laughing, dancing, singing, cooking and eating and could not have asked for a better ending to our day.

All of the pasta, sauces, cupcakes and snacks were all made by Chris and myself the day before the ceremony. Although the flowers themselves were from Central Market, the mason jars and boxes they were all in were done by me.

Vintage Romantic Wedding at Salt Lick BBQ in Austin, TX

Texas weddings are in a league of their own. It’s true. They always seem to be filled with style and substance yet with an air of casual, making you feel right at home. This Salt Lick BBQ fête is no different. With a talented Bride at the planning helm, this stunning soiree captured by Braden Harris Photography is a perfect example of why we love Texas wedding so very much. See more here.

From the Bride…Clay and I met in college in Austin but we did not start dating until we were both living in New York City after graduation. We fell in love in New York and with New York at the same time! When I was accepted to a Ph.D. program in Dallas last year I made the tough decision to move back to our home state after five great years in the big city. When I started school, Clay was still living in NYC and proposed to me when I came up for a weekend visit. The thing about our proposal that we talk about most is what happened after I said “Yes!” Clay had made a dinner reservation at a fancy restaurant. When we sat down, the couple next to us asked if we were celebrating anything and I told them that we had just gotten engaged. They congratulated us and then told us they had been married for 30+ years and loved every minute of it. We chatted for a few minutes longer and resumed our meals.

At the end of the night, the couple said goodbye and we continued our dinner with dessert. When the dessert came out, the plate said “Congratulations!” I looked at Clay and asked if he had told the restaurant and he said no. We laughed and said the waiter must have overheard us talking to the other couple. However, when our bill came, there was a zero balance. The waiter told us that the couple next to us had paid for our meal. It was so surreal and incredibly generous! They had left before we had a chance to thank them. Hurricane Sandy hit NY two days later so I was unable to get their name or information in order to thank them. We vowed to tell the story in order to “pay forward” their good deed and celebrate the kindness and generosity of strangers.

Clay moved to Dallas soon after we got engaged. We knew from the beginning of the planning process that we wanted to find a place to get married in Texas that would be memorable for both our Texas friends and family but also to our New York friends (many who had never visited our home state!) Also, since Clay and I have different religious backgrounds, we wanted to find a venue that had an outdoor ceremony site as to not alienate any family. We thought Austin would be a great compromise between our hometowns (Houston and San Antonio) and be a fun destination for our out of state visitors.

I drove to Austin to visit a few of the popular outdoor venues. A friend recommended I take a look at the Salt Lick BBQ’s event spaces so we drove out to Driftwood (about 30 minutes from downtown Austin). Arriving at the Pecan Grove (formerly Salt Lick Pavilion) was a revelation! It was everything I dreamed of: huge pecan trees, a creekside ceremony site and a large, air-conditioned (!!!) reception hall with huge glass windows and dark wood that could be customized any way I saw fit. It immediately reminded me of summer camp. My husband loves his childhood camp experiences, and I knew that is was where we had to get married. Plus, when I told him we could serve the famous Salt Lick BBQ for our wedding food, he was sold!

For budget reasons, I decided to take on the planning process by myself. It was a labor of love – and the day would not have been possible without my creative family and friends. There were many things I had to learn throughout the process, but the most important was how to communicate the look and feel of the day (looking through SMP helped me with that immensely!) My vendors responded well to having a specific color palette, a few words that I could use to describe my vision or theme and some images. I started considering this the “elevator pitch” of my wedding, but I will say that having that hammered out at the beginning made my vendor meetings much easier and ensured that my look was cohesive. Also, I created a “secret” pinboard on Pinterest and took an Ipad to all of my meetings with the images that I had selected.

I wanted a vintage romantic wedding with gold, blush, nude and greens as my colors. Clay proposed with a gorgeous ring he designed with a jewelry maker named Anna Sheffield. The ring is yellow gold with a vintage 1920’s European-cut diamond and inspired the whole look and feel of the day. I had the idea in my head of wanting it to feel like an elegant “camp” party, like some of the gorgeous camps that are popular on the East Coast. I started the planning process by selecting my dress, a silk tulle lace gown and matching veil by Catherine Deane (from BHLDN) that had the perfect amount of vintage romance I was dreaming of.

I was also so grateful to enlist the help of some great vendors. Rifle Paper Company designed my save-the-dates and invitations and visually communicated exactly what I wanted the look and feel of my wedding to be. I did not even have to offer them much in the way of instruction. The team at Loot Vintage Rentals helped select gorgeous vintage furniture (including an old railroad cart to hold our cake). Tyler Ryan at Westbank Flower Market worked his magic, transforming the space inside the venue with candles and flowers and creating the most breathtaking Chuppah I have ever seen. Ashley O’Bryan at the Salt Lick was incredible at event organizing. She was absolutely professional (and very patient!) when I explained my vision and helped me execute the look and feel exactly as I had imagined. Braden Harris Photography (a photography team of sisters out of Dallas, TX) captured every moment perfectly – both the formal and the fun. In another budget-related decision, we selected them because they were much more affordable than some of the Austin photographers we had looked at, so hiring them to travel for the weekend was a great investment. Sometimes, looking at vendors in other cities may be the more affordable option (especially if you don’t have a lot of lead time with planning).

I also have to largely thank Jane Fischer, from Austin, TX, whose chalkboard art, calligraphy, and design help solidify the feeling of the event. She designed images that I was able to use in printing my own napkins, coasters, programs and fans, which ended up saving a lot of money.

There were a few other small touches I included to make the day feel more personal. We incorporated some New York favorites into the evening – a black-and-white cookie cascade on the groom’s cake and hot pretzels served with spicy mustard at the end of the night. We set up a Fujifilm instax camera and had my house party take photos of each guest coming in. Our guest book was created by Iris Grimm (from Etsy) and accommodates photos of this size. It is a beautiful souvenir from our night and we have images of each guest that was there alongside their signature. We included some descriptions of Jewish wedding traditions in our programs as many of the guests attending were not familiar with them.My dad helped make an escort card piece out of wood and chicken wire. It was one of my favorite touches of the night and he was so glad to be involved.

Admittedly, there were a few challenges in planning the wedding myself. I didn’t have experience so a lot of what I did was learned along the way! A helpful hint is to figure out where you want the majority of your budget to go. For me, it was my paper goods, florals and day-of coordinator. I was lucky that the barbeque was an affordable option for us, so we could save in that regard. I decided to hire a coordinator for the day of the wedding and it was worth every penny. Jessica Moore from Something to Celebrate spent the time itemizing and coordinating where each small detail needed to go. I used powerpoint to pull images together into a presentation I could send to her (since I was planning from another city). When I arrived at the venue on the wedding day, it was all set up and looked exactly as I had planned. This was on advice from a friend of mine who also coordinated her own wedding. When you do most of the planning yourself, you don’t want to have to worry about getting things set up on the wedding day because you want to sit back and enjoy it.

Further, rely on the expertise of your vendors! They have done hundreds of weddings and often know how things work best (i.e., what length tablecloths to use, how many appetizers you should order, etc.) Also, Etsy is a great source for unique, customizable wedding details. Many vendors are open to making custom pieces if you do not see exactly what you are looking for – just ask.

When reflecting on the wedding with Clay, we both agree that it was absolutely perfect for us! We would not have changed a single thing. We took a private dinner immediately after the ceremony so we could have a chance to reflect on the ceremony and eat something. One of my favorite accessories of the night was the BBQ bib I had to wear over my dress as I had ribs and champagne with my new husband.

We loved watching our guests sit under the pecan trees and chase fireflies outside. Many of our NY guests had never eaten real Texas BBQ and said it was some of the best wedding food they had ever tasted. My favorite memory was the two of us singing “Don’t Stop Believing” with the band to all of our family and friends at the end of the night. Realizing that all of these people came in from all over the country (& some from overseas) to celebrate your love is absolutely humbling. I also now have an immense amount of respect for the amount of time and effort that goes into planning these special occasions.

Indian American Chateau Bellevue Wedding

I do what I do for the stories I get to read every day. It’s amazing to not only see one beautiful wedding after another, but to read all of the amazing love stories. This one, my darlings, is a wonderful one. And the gallery from Sherry Hammonds Photography is just a beautiful extension of the lovely story!

From the stunning bride… My husband Muddassir and I were married on May 4, 2013 at the historic Chateau Bellevue in downtown Austin. Because I was diagnosed with breast cancer on February 17, 2012 and we were engaged April 17, 2012, we decided to make our wedding a celebration of life, family, and friends after my battle with cancer during our engagement.

We met on Lake Travis in May 2008. It took several months before I would give in to going out with him but persistence pays off! He lived in Houston at the time and we had a long distance relationship for the first three years. I cant even begin to calculate all the miles we drove back and forth from Austin to Houston just to see each other. He eventually decided to move to Austin and has never looked back.

Our wedding was a celebration of life because I finished my cancer treatment in January 2013 and am happy to say I am cancer-free today. We wanted to celebrate our families because they are our rocks. Plus, Muddassir and I come from very different cultural background (I’m American and he’s Indian) so we couldn’t think of a better occasion to celebrate the diversity! Last but not least, we celebrated our friends because they helped support and carry us through the hardest of times battling cancer.

The special details of our wedding highlighted everything we were celebrating. When guests arrived, they were greeted by the words family, friends, live, love, and faith hanging by the entrance – all things that Muddassir and I honor and cherish. Since Muddassir and I were the last ones in each of our families to marry, we displayed the wedding portraits of our parents and siblings to honor and showcase our family diversity. We also included our engagement portrait, which was particularly meaningful to us because of all the medical challenges I had gone through. We both had very long hair when we first got engaged, but when I went through chemo I lost mine. So to show his support, Muddassir cut his off too. (I donated 13 inches and he donated 8 inches.) At our wedding, we looked totally different from our engagement photo, to say the least.

My favorite details from the wedding are deeply rooted in my southern Louisianan heritage. They start with my engagement ring. The center stone is a European-cut diamond over 100-years old that belonged to my Great Grandmother Victoria on my moms side. I am the fourth woman in my family to wear it. My bouquet was held in my Great Grandmother’s tussie mussie, which also carried her handkerchief. Both of these pieces are over 100-years old as well, and I was the fourth generation in my family to carry the handkerchief in my wedding. I also borrowed my mothers pearl necklace and bracelet, which my father gave to her for an anniversary gift, and I wore a six pence in my shoe for good luck. My mother wore jewelry from my Great Grandmother too – a cameo that my grandfather (her father) bought in Italy during World War II to give to his mother (my Great Grandma), as well as her bangle.

Another detail I love about my engagement and wedding rings is that they were custom made for me by Arthur Faramarzi from Matter L.A. in Los Angeles. Arthur is an amazing jeweler and one of my best and dearest friends. Since my father was not able to walk me down the stairs from the balcony to the courtyard, Arthur escorted me down and passed me over to my father. And my wedding dress was beyond amazinga natural color Legends by Romona Keveza raw silk gown. To add a little pizzazz, I wore a Saison Blanche belt. I love to sparkle, so my belt, headband, and earrings were all Swarovski crystal. As a final touch Muddassir wrote me sweet notes on the bottom of my wedding shoes! My makeup artist, Sameera Ahmed, is a highly sought after professional makeup artist from Denver, CO who I am now very fortunate to call my sister-in-law.

At the reception our friends and family enjoyed our blue signature cocktail named after our family: The Love Doctor. Friends and family also took advantage of the photo booth and put together for us a wonderful photo album of all the pictures they took. We had a place where guests could write us little notes or advice for the married couple on some stones. Instead of a traditional bouquet toss, I opted to do wedding cake pulls, which comes from my Louisiana heritage. I selected nine of my girlfriends to pull charms from the cake before we cut it. Each charm had a different meaning, ranging from an anchor representing hope, to a fleur-de-lis representing prosperity, to a kitty representing the girl with nine lives. When we made our exit guests were given gold bells to ring tied to seed paper. When planted the seed paper grows into beautiful wildflowers.

Al Fresco Austin Wedding

I’m one of those wedding lovers who tends to judge the day by the dress. And this Austin soiree? Total ace thanks to one absurdly stunning Marchesa. But even more stunning than the gown is the bride who’s in it. Along with Posey Floral & Event DesignThe Nichols and so many others, she pulled off the day of her dreams in all-out style. And as always, the gallery awaits with soooo much more.

From the Bride… We moved to Austin from New York City in 2012. We knew after getting engaged that it was where we wanted to get married. It was the perfect mid point for friends and family coming from California and the East Coast. When we stumbled across Laguna Gloria we knew it was our spot. The nine acre estate is an oasis in the middle of Austin. Being from California I felt right at home. It’s the perfect mix of Napa’s elegance and sophistication with a combination of Palm Spring’s glamour and fun nestled on the edge of Lake Austin. We had admired the husband and wife dream team duo, Jennifer and CJ Nichols and their editorial photography style. They were the perfect fit to document our day so we can relive the happiness and joy we felt over and over again!

The evening was magical. It was the perfect cross of Old Hollywood charm while being understated, chic and a truly romantic affair. Think long dinner table, festoon lights, white dinner jackets, bow ties, glowing candles, layers of romantic blooms and cabbage roses in blush, greens, mints and ivories.

I’ve always loved the infamous picture of Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr. from the 90’s on their wedding day. Almost twenty years later and it’s still one of the most stylish and iconic weddings. That gown! Still classic and timeless. When I found my dress I knew it had the same classic, understated elegance. The dress made me feel like Carolyn Bessette back in 1996 with a touch of couture glamour. The embellishments are spectacular and made such a statement while the silhouette is simple and classic.

The ceremony was friendly, intimate and personal. We were lucky enough to have our friend who introduced us in New York City officiate the wedding. He’s known us both from the beginning when we met in 2008 at a Killer’s concert at Madison Square Garden. He was able to paint the perfect picture of our relationship and how it unfolded from the start. When I looked up at friends and family he had everyone in tears. One of our friends is an amazing and talented song writer and singer in New York City. She sang her own rendition of “Be My Baby” by the Ronette’s, “Read My Mind” by the Killer’s and “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley to make the perfect medley. We’ve watched the video over and over again and we still get chills every time we watch and listen.

After cocktail hour on the terrace and dinner under the festoon lights and candlelit tables came dancing. The west and east coasters hit the dance floor and danced the night away. For the last song the band brought us up on stage, handed us a mic and started playing “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey. All of our guests were going wild! Belting out the words and fist pumping to the end. The party didn’t stop there. We made our way to the after party and continued the celebration.

Our wedding was a truly magical three day event. The best of our lives! We would do it all over again any day!

Modern Four Seasons Wedding

I love a bride that isn’t afraid to rock a little color on her wedding day.  And this gorgeous Austin beauty? Well, she’s rockin’ a black and white frock that from here on out will only be referred to as the “striped masterpiece.”  Because this is the kind of dress that basically screams “chic,” all the while letting you know that this wedding is one seriously stylish party.  I’m talking ghost chairs from Marquee Event Group and modern details aplenty from Caplan Miller Events.  See them all captured by Shannon Cunningham in the full gallery.

After a small, intimate backyard ceremony a week earlier, Lindsay and Tyler celebrated in glamorous style with all of their friends and family at The Four Seasons Austin on New Year’s Eve 2012. The black tie, elegant evening was filled with sparkle and opulence as the Four Seasons ballroom and lawn were transformed. A surprise blessing, complete with a full gospel choir, in the transparent tent on the lawn, put everyone into the wedding spirit. The night was filled with dancing and merriment (plus made to order donuts!) as the countdown to 2013 approached!

It may be hovering around freezing outside, but here on SMP Southwest it’s warm and cozy.  That’s because we’re basking in a drop-dead gorgeous photo shoot from a beyond talented team of vendors featuring beautiful table settings from Marquee Event Group, lush, colorful blooms from Flora Fetish and a gallery of amazing captured by Day 7 Photography.  All planned (to perfection, I might add) by Leave the Details to Me, this is one shoot that will make your heart sing.  See it all in the full gallery.

From Day 7 Photography… This wedding inspiration styled shoot features different elements to portray a calm elegant affair. The dinner table and place settings became the centerpieces that brought together this vision. The bride wore a stunning Vanity Fair style blush gown and a rosemary and juliette rose crown. Her bouquet included white phalepnois, white mums, garden roses, and eucalyptus to pull in the hue of gray green. The table setting featured towering gold metal vases topped with floral (Flora Fetish) in raspberry, coral, peach and mint as the color palette. Ashley Crouch completed the makeup and hair by long wavy curls and a soft blush makeup coloring. Leave the Details to Me created design elements by painted stemware, table accents, and coordinating the perfect details for the final day. The images by Day 7 Photography releases the textures of metallic, wood, and vibrant floral contrast created eye appeal for our client.
