Caplan Miller Events ~ Wedding At The Wildflower Center

What to do … what to do … when Plan B becomes inevitable? Why you thank your lucky stars for the lovely ladies at Caplan Miller Events! Jacki and Nick had an absolutely stunning wedding (despite the rain) thanks to the incredible CME team. Take a peek for yourself!

Jackie, Nick and their families were such a pleasure to work with! You would have never known it was raining cat and dogs on their wedding day…and at The Wildflower Center no less! Their completely outdoor wedding changed on a moments notice as tents had to be brought in and with the ceremony and cocktail reception moving indoors. The wedding party handled everything with such grace it made the wedding that much more beautiful!

The colors were aubergine and apple green. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were in shades of purple composed of anemones, tulips and swet peas. The brides bouquet was in all white adorned with vintage family brooches.

The ceremony was held in the ampitheater making is dramatic and romantic. The cocktail reception took place in the gallery with jazz group The Lucky Strikes playing. Dinner was held under a tent with purple venetian chandeliers – table flower arrangements had an organic feel using manzanita branches and hanging candles.

The bride and groom live in Alaska and brought the most northern state down south by having Alaskan beer, serving Baked Alaskan Pies for dessert and having “Alaskan Snow Ball” (aka cake balls) as favors.

The night ended on a high note with the bride and groom leaving in a vintage Rolls Royce with a trail of fireworks a la My Best Friends Wedding!

From the moment we started planning our wedding Billy and I knew that we wanted an event that perfectly complimented who we are; casual but put together, elegant but with a country charm.  Having both grown up in Central Texas we knew that we wanted the beautiful Texas Hill Country as our backdrop and we found the perfect venue in Vista West Ranch in Dripping Springs. The rolling hills, fields of tall grass and big blue sky gave us the perfect backdrop for all of our personal details. Being an Interior Designer all of the details were very important to me.  I spent a year collecting every individual piece for the centerpiece on each table creating a vintage chic theme, making every table completely individual.  I wanted everything soft and feminine with out becoming girly, the rustic, barn-like reception hall helped to keep the frilly touches from being too much.  A DIY-er to the core I made as many things as I could from the “antiqued” picture frames to the name cards to our custom printed handkerchief Save The Dates.  I spent countless hours in my kitchen making Jam and Jelly from my grandmothers recipe for favors for our guests.

We worked really hard to find the best vendors that we could in our budget.  Our florist, Stacey, with Petal Pushers did an amazing job!  She took exactly what I had envisioned and described and made it into a reality.  The flowers were more beautiful than I could have ever hoped for.  In true Texas style we opted for a bar-b-que, beer and an Austin specialty, Mexican Martini’s!  Guests raved about the delicious bar-b-que from Texas Rib Kings in Austin.  Shortly into the planning process the cake became very important to me, I wanted it to be not only beautiful but really good.  Simon Lee created just that!  I could not have done any of it with out my good friend and amazing photographer, Brittney Melton.  She was the perfect bouncing board, helping me refine my many ideas.  She took our engagement, bridal and wedding photos, all of them were great, but the wedding photos are by far my favorite!  They really do tell the whole story.

I was surprised at how calm I was the day of the wedding.  When I sit back and think of our wedding there are several specific memories I have that are especially special to me.  The first look with my soon to be husband, it was as if everything leading up to this was done and none of it mattered in the moment, everyone else and everything else just faded away.  Taking a deep breath and stepping out the door to walk down the aisle, thinking half way down the aisle “slow down”.  Swaying my hips and trying not to sing along as my step-sister sang “I’ll Stand By You” at our ceremony.  Our weenie dog/ring bearer barking as we were pronounced “Man and Wife”.  Walking into our reception and being suddenly overwhelmed by the amount of love in the room.  Sneaking away to actually eat a piece of our wedding cake. One of my very favorite memories were the toasts given by our wedding party. Having a small wedding party, only 2 attendants each, all of them were able to give a toast at the wedding.  Each toast was so special and it was really amazing to know that they loved and supported us as much as we did them and to hear the things that they saw in us that we may not have seen in ourselves.  Both Billy and I found ourselves unexpectedly crying.

Melissa Boswell, a New York transplant was looking to plan very fun, Texas-style wedding.  Since the bride and groom had recently purchased a home in the very trendy Marfa, Texas it was only fitting to theme her wedding Marfa meets Manhattan!  We set up a vintage airstream for a bar and served fresh lime margaritas and martinis.  The menu featured chicken pot pies, tomato bisque, and frito pies, just to name a few. Instead of the traditional guestbook, guests were asked to leave a suggestion for the suggestion box!  To fight off the winter chill we gave the guests cozy pashminas and cream colored snuggly blankets.  Spiked hot chocolate also warmed up the guests for an evening of dancing to eighties cover band, The Spazmatics.  The bride and groom departed as any New Yorker would, via taxi cab!

Texas Wedding by Ashley Garmon Photographers

Vista West Ranch hosts some of the prettiest weddings that cross our desks…we are talking serious jaw-dropping gorgeous coming out of the Texas Hill Country and this next wedding from photographer Ashley Garmon is no exception to all of its pretty predecessors. From Ashley Garmon…

Cyndi and Trae are the quintessential Austin couple. They embody everything about Austin – from football to food. Their friends were expecting great things from their wedding…and I am thrilled to say they were not disappointed! The couple wanted a vintage and whimsical feel to their fete so they chose Vista West Ranch for its charm . . . not to mention its fabulous beer garten! A color palette of blush, magenta, ivory, bronze jade and espresso was chosen, and it was ideal for the setting.A color palette of blush, magenta, ivory, bronze jade and espresso was chosen, and it was ideal for the setting. Cyndi was simply stunning in her wedding garb. A true vision from her head to her toes (seriously – the most fabulous wedding shoes ever). This girl has STYLE, and so does her man! Trae looked dashing in his suit. The tie he chose was perfect for the wedding. They looked like the couple that comes in your picture frames!

Cyndi and Trae wed outside, in front of the wooded arbor that was enhanced with colorful floral. An acoustic guitarist played contemporary pieces, including Cyndi’s bridal processional, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”. The chairs were adorned with vintage lace chair ties to add a special detail. Cyndi was all about the details! The couple’s pup – Colbie – was my favorite detail – what a sweet girl. She did great for all her photos and was a true champ. Guests then headed to the beer garten where they dined on Tex-Mex fare and drank raspberry-flavored mojitos with fanciful straws, as well as sweet tea and vodka with monogrammed stirrers. A cigar roller was brought in as Cyndi’s surprise gift to Trae and he LOVED it. Espresso floral linens complemented the barn in the backdrop. The guitarist continued to play and it was the perfect Austin atmosphere. Time for dinner, but not before they picked up their seating assignment – which was on a pinwheel!!! Cyndi LOVED her DIY projects, and this was one of my favorites. The pinwheels were in different papers that matched the look of the wedding so it created an eclectic, one-of-a-kind display. Guests then entered the barn to find their seats and were wowed with so many unique touches. All tables were named after different Austin locales that meant something to the couple. There was an illustration to accompany each table name. The wedding cake was so elegant and sweet at the same time – light pink delicate scroll work on white buttercream, and the cutest bird topper ever! Trae had a UT-themed cake of course! With the large T matching his college ring exactly. Then the couple’s monogram, done in moss, was hanging on the balcony and adorned with muslin flowers to match the muslin wedding date banner that hung below.

The linen choice was bronze jade taffeta, which gave a warm glow to the room with a touch of color. We added lace runners that complemented the treatment on the dark wood chairs. LOVE THIS LOOK! Centerpieces were housed in mercury glass vases and contained a grouping of full and romantic blush and ivory blooms – literally the perfect touch to the gorgeous tablescape. Each place setting had a note for the guest thanking them for coming and a sweet message from the newlyweds! Flip the note over and it revealed a menu that was to die for. Cyndi and Trae’s top priority for the reception was having the 80s tribute band – LC Rocks – perform at their reception. It was a blast. The dance floor was always packed, as was the stage as the band allowed guests to get up and perform with them – FUN! Monogrammed 80s sunglasses were passed out and everyone went wild for a pair. The fun did not end there. A photo booth was on site and kept everyone entertained until the last minutes of the night. Guests were given homemade cotton candy on rock candy sticks as a parting favor, as well as “TEAM SCHULTZ” koozies. Then the guests sent the couple off in a blaze of glory with sparklers. Cyndi and Trae didn’t want the party to end, so they hopped on a Party Bus with their wedding party and celebrated all the way back to Austin.

I wanted our wedding to have the theme of “vintage simplicity”. The first thing that I found was my girls’ dresses in the sale room of Anthropologie. I loved the color and the vintage detailing. Everything just sort of developed from there. The guys’ suspenders, bbq meal and the square dancing played along with the theme.

Here is a look at some of the DIY projects that we did, starting with the flowers…

My friend, Patty, and I made the pew decorations from wheat (since Craig is from Montana) and baby’s breath. My mom was on the “bottle brigade” as she called it. Over a period of 8 months she collected all of the bottles for the table decorations. I purchased the flowers in bulk from Central Market and my friends arranged them in assorted ball jars and bottles the morning of the wedding. My friend Merrill spent the morning with my mom and me making the boutonnieres and the bridesmaids bouquets. My mom and I took apart the bridal bouquet that Central Market had made and added more ranunculus and gomphrena to it. Then we cut burlap garland and lace and wrapped them around the stems.

We also DIY-ed our papergoods. My husband, Craig, painted a watercolor of a jar of flowers that I had at the house. Then we put it into photoshop, shrunk the size of it and put it on business card sized table assignments. For our programs, I downloaded a template for a wedding invitation and then altered the color and design of it to suit a program. The place settings were labels that I got from A Print Lady. I shrunk the size of them and cut them out. Then my friends and family tied them around all of the lemons the morning of the wedding.

Other small DIY details. My friend, Cher, made the burlap runners and applied the monogram “HS” with transfer paper as a decorative detail. My sister, Kelly, and I created the text for the crossword one afternoon. Craig and I worked on the map together. I drew the map and he adorned it with miniature images and signs of places such as the church and the reception venue. Craig and I brought my dresser from Houston for the cakes to sit on. My dress came with a belt which I wasn’t the biggest fan of, so I found a trim that I liked and a new piece of ribbon. I had it sewn on to the dress.

As for advice, I know everyone has already told you this, but the day really does fly by in a blink of an eye. Take a moment to cherish and thank all of the people that have come from far and away to support you and celebrate your marriage. Also try and steal two minutes from the busy timeline of your wedding day for a private moment with your new husband.

Our first wedding comes to us via Austin, Texas. Photographed by Forever Photography Studio, it’s a little bit playful, a little bit of whimsy and filled to the tippy top with bright hues, all designed by Lizze Belle Event Planning. For all of the carnival inspired goodness, be sure to stop by the gallery.

See every last bit of colorful wedding goodness right here!

Jack and Katrina were married in Austin, TX at the lovely, Mercury Hall on May 28, 2010. These two are so playful and fun loving that they settled on a carnival themed wedding. Crave Catering did carnival themed food stations that included mini hot dogs, gourmet french fries, sliders, mini pizzas, cotton candy, and popcorn. The staff was cool enough to get into the theme and wear red & white striped ties. There were also soft pretzels and candied apples served as the escort cards. The guests also had a great time in the photo booth and hanging out at the candy bar. We did a surprise fireworks show at the end of the evening and sent Kat & Jack off in style in an antique limo.

We wanted the event to have some elegant touches so Rose Hip Flora brought in softness and a little whimsy with the floral and Paper Lovely did all of the letterpress paper goods with a vintage ferris wheel. Katrina opted for a brightly colored bouquet while the bridesmaids had the softer colors. Centerpieces were all a little different and even had carnival tickets incorporated in some of them. Katrina had a lot of fun gathering antique circus/carnival themed items as well as all of the vintage quilts that were used during the ceremony.

Austin Wedding by The Nichols

Peaches are my absolute favorite summer fruit. I literally spend the year awaiting their arrival at the farmers’ market, so when I saw how Gina and Kyle incorporated fresh peaches throughout their summer wedding, my mouth was watering immediately. Gina, the bride, works for Little Black Book member 2 Dine 4 Fine Catering in Austin, so I knew right away that the attention to detail would be excellent and this peaches and cream affair, beautifully captured by The Nichols, does not disappoint. You can drool through the entire image gallery right here.  xoxo, Erin from apartment 34

From the bride, Gina…

Although I’ve seen many weddings while working in this industry, there is nothing like your own wedding day. It was absolutely magical, and I had the added bonus of being surrounded not only by the love of my life, my family and friends, but also my “second” family at 2 Dine 4 Catering, who really outdid themselves to make everything perfect.

Here are a few of my favorite details:

Venue: We both grew up in Austin and consider ourselves to be “old school” Austinites. We wanted a venue that reflected that – centrally located and with a very classic, vintage ballroom feel. The Mansion felt just right.

Food: The food was naturally very important to me, but (surprise!) it wasn’t just up to me…Kyle wanted an elegant menu, but I wanted kitschy and playful for the 4th of July. What we ended up with was a mix of classic and fun: braised beef short ribs and summer salad, but also my favorite panko-crusted mac n’ cheese and mini corn dog appetizers. My favorite food element was the peach ice cream, which 2 Dine 4’s chefs prepared from my grandmother’s “famous” recipe. Paired with almond cake and a slice of Texas peach, it was absolutely divine!

Flowers: Our florist Melanie came up with a gorgeous entryway arrangement dappled with books, peaches and candlesticks. When I said, “make it reflect the venue,” she located candelabras that matched the sconces on the wall! We wrapped my bouquet with lace from the trim of my mother’s wedding dress. (note: this is a great way to knock out your something old AND something borrowed). Mom didn’t have the heart to cut her dress, so she actually un-sewed the lace for this very purpose. Now that’s love. Rather than doing a bouquet toss at the end of the night, I presented the bridal bouquet to my grandmother who has been married almost 62 years! I was blessed to have my grandparents not only attend, but also dance at my wedding, and can only hope that my marriage is as long and happy as theirs.

In traditional Jewish ceremonies, the bride circles the groom seven times before the rabbi begins. This represents the bride creating a protective sort of “orbit” around the groom – indicating that she will take care of him and that he is the center of her world. I knew I would get nervous and not pay attention to counting, so Kyle helped me out. The huppah, or wedding canopy, represents the home the bride and groom will make together. Rather than an ornate floral design, we opted to personalize it with family relics – the covering was a handmade tablecloth from my grandmother’s bridal trousseau and we drank off an antique table that was Kyle’s great-great-great grandmother’s from France.

Thanks to Gina and Kyle for sharing their gorgeous wedding images and touching detail with us. It goes to show that it’s not how lovely a wedding looks, but the meaning behind what’s involved. Congratulations!

Cheers, Mrs. E / apartment 34

Horseshoe Bay Resort Wedding From Amelia Tarbet

Today we are featuring the professional talents of three Little Black Book members ~ Amelia Tarbet, Lucie’s Events and Petal Pushers! The wedding, Allison and James’ wedding, took place at the beautiful Horseshoe Bay Resort, 6 miles from Marble Falls ~ about 45 minutes northwest of Austin, Texas. And you know, anything in or around Austin is going to be terrific!

Allison and James chose the yacht club at Horseshoe Bay Resort in Marble Falls as the destination for their wedding because she spent quite a bit of time vacationing there with her family. The wedding colors were a great combination of light and dark blues and bright yellow (see table cloths and custom made napkins). They celebrated at the reception with approximately 200 guests to the music of The Pictures ~ one of Austin’s favorite bands.

Amelia Tarbet has SO many more photos from Allison & James’ Horeshoe Bay Resort wedding on her blog ~ please take a look: Part 1 and Part 2. We also want to offer a huge round of applause to Stacey’s talented team at Petal Pushers and Wendee at Lucie’s Events! Congratulations Allison & James!

The Inviting Pear: Glamorous Hill Country Wedding

Happy Monday to everyone! As always, we have a terrific lineup for you this week on The Little Black Book Blog, including weddings, photo shoots, wedding films ~ from Texas to Canada and back again! First up, Amy and Jared’s beautiful Hill Country wedding at the spectacular Barton Creek Resort.

photography courtesy of Studio 563

Sent to us by Shannon at The Inviting Pear, with Floral Design by The Last Petal, this wedding embraces all that is steeped in tradition and beauty and most of all love!

We asked Shannon {The Inviting Pear} to tell us a little bit about the wedding invitation design process …

The first (and only) time I met Amy was at her parents’ beautiful home overlooking the Hill Country in Austin. There was quite a crowd at our consultation…her fiancé, Jared, his parents, her parents, her sister and Becky, her wedding planner. Since I’m a graphic designer and I create all my invitations from scratch, I don’t have catalogs that a client orders from. Instead I show several books of mine that display my past work. This helps me figure out the client’s personality and style. I quickly learned that they all loved the pocketfold look (where the enclosure cards are held securely in a side pocket). Due to the high volume of out-of-town guests, this was the perfect choice. At the time, the colors were purple with accents of gold and cream. They were drawn to sophisticated and geometric-based designs and loved the pearlescent metallic papers. They also wanted guests to know that this was a Jewish wedding so we decided at that time to include the wording “under the chuppah” on the invitation. Once we got started on designs, we worked together for the next few months over email (as they were traveling during the entire planning process!). We did have one minor glitch! After receiving their hard copy proof, Amy emailed me to say that she had changed her wedding colors!  We were already in a time crunch, but we made it happen!  The end result was a beautiful pocketfold invitation. Guests opened the white pearlescent metallic envelope to a matching white pocketfold wrapped in purple satin ribbon and Amy and Jared’s custom-designed monogram. Inside, the invitation was backed with textured purple cardstock to add depth. And the pocket held the details of the wedding. The entire invitation brought to life everyone’s vision…a Hill Country wedding with tons of glam. From that point, we designed all of the reception collateral from the programs to the escort cards (which were color-coded based on meal choice) and table cards to the menus and bar signs.

As we said at the beginning ~ Amy & Jared’s celebration of marriage is all that and more! A true celebration of love!

Texas Backyard Wedding by Stella Alesi Photography

This wedding sent to us by Stella and Leon of Stella Alesi Photography is so sweet, so very sweet. It is a backyard charmer straight out of Austin, Texas and this adorable couple just might be the coolest cats ever featured on SMP. We are seriously crushing on their perfect vintage style and the handmade affair that they created with the help of talented friends and family. Plus, Vivienne Westwood shoes happen to be an amazing combo with a flirty vintage frock so how could we not love every inch of this wedding. See all the fab details that made this day perfect in the gallery.

From Stella Alesi:

So I didn’t know if I should name this submission Amenity and Adam’s backyard wedding, or Amenity and Adam’s hip East Side wedding, or just one of the sweetest weddings I have ever photographed. To say it was DYI wouldn’t cover all the facts as well. It was more of a “Do it Community” event. Family and friends helped out in all sorts of ways from making the invitations and the beautiful candies, to setting up the tables and creating the sign in book that Miles, their son, decorated.

Bicycles were a big part of the day. Many guests arrived on them as well as the ring bearer and officiant. The wedding party, adorned in friend made hats, walked across the street from the neighbors yard ringing bells announcing the arrival of the bride and her father. The ceremony took place on the front porch of their newly, groom painted, pink bungalow style house. Dogs roamed freely, a DJ set up in the backyard, and their oh so hip and artsy friends, dressed in their east austin summer finest, danced and ate cupcakes, (again made by a friend).

Austin Wedding by Stella Alesi Photography

This next wedding is all about the fun. Carefree, whimsical, dance-your-tail-off kind of fun. Photographed by the FAB husband and wife duo, Leon and Stella Alesi, I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for Austin, Texas this fete. Favorite part? The colorful paper poms that completely transform the space.  But remember, this is only a tidbit of the actual wedding goodness. There is so much more fun to be had in the gallery, right here!

From Leon and Stella Alesi…Lillian and Caleb were married earlier this spring in Austin, Texas. The venue was Mercury Hall, an old chapel that was moved to this central Austin location and then renovated into a simple yet beautiful space. Lillian was born and raised in Austin, but her and her now husband Caleb presently reside in NYC. They brought with them a wonderful sense of contemporary style, again simple but beautiful.

I loved the many colored blue ties they wore and the vests, no jackets, (it’s hot here in Austin). The bridesmaid dresses mimicked the shades of blue of the groomsmen’s ties. The bride’s dress was perfect, just below the knee, and peeking out from beneath the skirt a pale blue petticoat. Her shoes were a golden yellow.

The brides mother is an artist and designed the invitations and helped with the decorations, using blue as a base color but then adding many colored paper “poofs” and flower arrangements to the room. The effect was festive and screamed of springtime.

Austin, Texas Wedding by Clayton Austin

I have no qualms about admitting that I am the HUGEST fan of succulents. In fact, I would probably marry them if I could. So I, of course, jumped at the chance to feature this lovely wedding sent to us by Clayton Austin because not only is it gorgeous but it happens to be bursting from the seams with succulents. Texas, Succulents, unique color palette = happy blogger. Be sure to hop on over to the gallery for more of this winning combination.

My inspiration for the wedding was my Enzoani wedding dress. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. It’s the first dress I tried on and the second I put it on I knew that I had to have it. I wanted something different but still classic enough that I wouldn’t look back in five years and think my dress was too trendy. The black, silver and taupe of the belt would become the perfect wedding color palette.

I love modern flower designs with lots of texture so when I told Trisha Bennett with Visual Lyrics that I wanted flowers in black, silver and taupe she was really excited. We looked through books together and picked flowers with lots of texture in that color palette. I loved the idea of having 5 different shaped vases with different textured flowers in them as the centerpieces.

Overall, Mitch and I wanted a unique and creative wedding that was “us”. We wanted our ceremony to be sentimental and personal so we picked all the music that we both loved for the processional and recessional. My uncle wrote us a very personal poem about Mitch being a man of the elements because he’s a fire fighter and me being a women of the light because I’m a photographer. It was beautiful and one of my favorite moments of the day. My grandfather was the officiant which was also very special. After the ceremony we wanted the rest of the night to be really fun for our guests. We had fun props and an amazing DJ who made everyone rush to the dance floor. Our guests also raved about the photo booth.

Austin, Texas Wedding by Eclectic Images

Are you a lover of all things green? If so, this pretty number by Eclectic Images will have you begging for more. The adorable couple behind the day had a whimsical outdoor bash in Austin, Texas and sprinkled their soiree with pops of emerald green and lots and lots of silhouettes. Add to that the perfectly paired white anemones and we have ourselves a gorgeous wedding. Check out the gallery for the FULL day in all of its green glory.

Melanie and Joe held a relaxed and laid back wedding which completely fit their personality as a couple. Their ceremony was held at the Laguna Gloria amphitheater and the reception was held on the grounds at Laguna Gloria. A custom mojito bar served guests well, as well as an amazing menu catered by Primizie which included a savory Potato Leek soup completed with a crisp fried leek, a fresh seasonal green salad topped with champagne smoked pear vinaigrette, candied Texas pecans, applewood smoked bacon and crumbled gorgonzola cheese, and grilled sirloin steak roulade with Portobello mushrooms, classic Spanish paella, and classic vegetarian lasagna.

Melanie was a DIY bride and designed/created much of the décor herself. She went with a crisp green and white theme with a classic silhouette motif, and it was a very consistent and beautiful element throughout the event. The grooms cake, Jabba the Hut from Star Wars, was a hit, and the brides cake was a classic round layered cake in a crisp white accented with beautiful sugar anemones. Along with the Jabba the Hut cake, Melanie and Joe had a very playful feel to their wedding, complete with their choice of first dance song – Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog. After the first dance, guests hit the dance floor and danced all night. Overall, it was a beautiful, classic, and playful wedding which truly reflected the personalities of Melanie and Joe!

Austin, Texas Wedding by Stacy Cross Photography

We are serving up a plate of Austin nuptials today and these nups are extra special because they are greenified, as in eco-chic and puurrrtty y’all. (I think that’s how they say it in Texas, right Abby?) This fun loving bride and groom had a vintage inspired wedding that completely fit their laid back, easy breezy spirit while infusing lots of organic elements that would make Mother Earth oh so proud. Stacy Cross photographed the whole shebang and was nice enough to deliver some lovely imagery for us to gaze upon with our morning coffee. You can check out even more of the day here.

I choose every element of our wedding with my husband in mind and our relationship in mind. I didn’t want him to think that he was giving me a gift of fulfilling my childhood wedding fantasy. Rather, I wanted him to know that this couldn’t have been dreamt before him, and I wanted him to feel that he would have designed the exact same wedding were his disposition so inclined to plan the event (which, typically, it isn’t!). I felt the day would be most romantic and honest, if it focused on the things we love together. So our music (before, during, and after the ceremony, and the reception band) were old-timey jazz/blues-ish, rather than traditional classical or pretty pop. I used succulents instead of floral that would die, because (a) it is more masculine and (b) we could keep it in our garden afterward. I gave seed packets as escort cards, because Jacob and I have a vegetable garden, and other such personal details…on anther note – Our event was as organic/sustainable as we could make it. The venue is the only certified organic venue in the country, and won a city-wide zero-waste program. The food was all local and organic as well.

As a designer, I felt the need to do something different. I didn’t want to just fit the role of Bride. I wanted it to be unique to us, and I wanted our event to be as cohesive as I would anything else I design. It had a vintage feel to it, almost Gatsby-esque with seer-sucker, a gramophone and light neutral colors. Jacob and I are not the formal sort at all, so we didn’t want a stuffy serious wedding. Nonetheless, we are also traditional in many ways and took our decision to marry very seriously, so I didn’t want a jokey-casual wedding either. So this vintage, organic affair was what we came up with, and it turned out beautifully. Our band even got an encore!

Rustic Elegance At Villa Antonia From Stacy Reeves

Autumn, a native Texan, and Simon, a British professional tennis player, met while Simon was playing in a tournament at Autumn’s university. She showed him some Southern hospitality, and when she returned to Bath, England to study abroad the following summer, he returned the favor. They married in a gorgeous ceremony at Villa Antonia overlooking the rolling hills of Austin, Texas …

Stacy Reeves always sends us such terrific weddings and the images from Autumn and Simon’s wedding are certainly no exception! In addition to the absolutely beautiful couple, this venue is positively perfect!

Simon and Autumn’s Story …

Simon and I met one very fateful day in the spring of my junior year at Texas A&M University. At this time, Simon was playing tennis both on the pro tour and once again for his University while working on a grad degree. Simon had traveled to the US as part of the British Universities Tennis team, playing against colleges in California and Texas – including Texas A&M. I was in the girls’ organization, 30-Loves, that helped run and score the men’s tennis home matches. That night I scored Simon’s match, and needed to quickly speak with him after the match – the only time in my 4 years I spoke to a visiting player! As our conversation quickly turned casual, it came up that my brother and I were visiting England that summer. After speaking for a little while, Simon offered to show me around when I came to England and we agreed to meet up. Well, we ended up spending the whole two weeks together, and thus began our very long-distance relationship.

After nearly 3 years of flying back and forth across the pond, we decided enough was enough, and that I would come to England. Just two weeks into the move, we took a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland and Simon completely surprised me by proposing on a perfect night over looking the city! Once back in London, and after agreeing we should have the wedding in beloved Texas, the long-distance wedding planning began…

Thanks to the internet with its endless information, wedding websites, and especially Skype!, plus an amazing mother and friends back home, combined with a love for planning and organization anyway – planning from far away turned out to be not too difficult! The only things I’d always known I’d wanted were an outdoors wedding, and in the fall. After a discussion with Simon, we both agreed that in addition, the other important factors to us was that we wanted a really nice venue, but still a laid-back affair, with good food and drink and just our families and close friends – keeping it under a hundred people. We also, wanted a special but short ceremony, spending the majority of the time at the reception with our guests. Simon was wonderful and just basically let me go for it, while still being interested as I shared the coming together of the details with him.

The biggest decision was the venue – Villa Antonia proved to be perfect on so many accounts! It was exactly the look we were going for: country – yet still elegant, beautiful views, intimate, and a venue that accommodated both the ceremony and reception! It also took care of the ‘good food and drink’ front, as the catering company they use had amazing food and also took care of the drinks! As for theme/colors I knew I wanted the feeling of an elegant but rustic fall affair, and I didn’t really have ‘colors’ – I wanted to be able to mesh metals (silver/gold/bronze), with neutrals (tan/black/brown), while still bringing in rich colors of the fall through my flowers. I didn’t want to stick to one bold color theme and distract from the natural beauty of the outdoor setting and rustic villa – instead I wanted my decorative choices to be able to blend right in to this setting. So, to still bring in the rich fall colors, I pulled together a variety of some of my favorite colored flowers to go with big yellow roses of Texas, of course!

Though getting a mix of flowers can be more expensive, we doubled the use of my bridesmaid’s bouquets using them to fill the birch covered mason jar vases we had put together in the centerpieces. The centerpieces on the tables also included metal lanterns, white and dark green fall gourds, and candles – again creating that intimate, rustic, fall setting. There really were just so many details that made our wedding perfect…. from the save the dates, invitations and programs that I made myself, to the two most delicious cakes ever – including a nod to England with Simon’s favorite football (soccer!) team on his, to the perfect playlist at the reception – thanks to doing it ourselves on iTunes and having my brother and one of the groomsmen DJ, to the PERFECT (70, sunny, slight breeze) weather, to of course…. THE dress!

Everything really did just come together so perfectly on the day… We really were blessed to start our lives together as a married couple on such an awesome day with so many of our friends and family there to help us celebrate!

Destination Wedding In Austin From Stella Alesi / Photography

SO many weddings are destination weddings. Whether across the country or to some exotic location, weddings usually involve travel for many of the guests ~ and quite often the bride and groom! Now, you might not consider Austin, Texas a typical setting for a destination wedding, but for this bride and groom, it held everything they could possible dream of! Sent to us by stella alesi / photography ~ Christina & Todd’s fantastic Austin wedding …

from Christina …

Todd and I met in Houston, Texas, at a restaurant. On our first date (the next night) I looked at Todd and said, “I think I will marry you!”…not a great first date line, but exactly a year later he was my husband!

Though we live in New York City, we have roots in Texas so we wanted to be married there. I had seen pictures of weddings at the Four Seasons in Austin and thought it would be a beautiful destination wedding.

Our wedding colors were inspired by a gray suit Todd spotted in December before we were engaged. I wanted to incorporate my favorite color, pink, in a way that was respectful to a man’s taste. We made gray the basic color and pink the accent: suits and dresses gray, accessories and flowers pink. The bridesmaids wore beautiful silver and stone bracelets and long pearl necklaces made by one of the bridesmaids.

Wendee from Petal Pushers pulled everything together with flower design: chandeliers of peonies, lanterns, mirrored boxes of arrangements, crystals, and twinkling votive candles. Mint julep glasses in the floral arrangements complemented our signature drink. And the bouquets… HOLY PEONIES, they were beyond beautiful!

We wanted our guests to experience the greatest in food and drink. The Four Seasons did not disappoint anyone! We feasted at several stations: sushi to Mexican to beef tenderloin. Late night snacks included cookies, tomato basil soup, and grilled cheese sandwiches.

We celebrated Todd’s parents’ 40th anniversary that night with a special cake and an anniversary dance. Also, instead of throwing the bouquet to my already married girlfriends, I gave it to my mother.

I cherish every memory and thank Stella and Leon Alesi for capturing our special weekend on film to remember for a lifetime.

Rehearsal Dinner at Hotel Saint Cecilia by Q Weddings

I am sure you are all well aware of how crazy we are for weddings around here. And that excitement is all-inclusive meaning we LOVE every single little bit and piece that goes into making a spectacular day and this includes the important night before the big day. Ah yes, the rehearsal dinner. Often overlooked and under-photographed in the blogoshphere. Well don’t worry friends, we’ve got your back. We have gathered some great little gems to showcase today in hopes that all of you brides-to-be can pull inspiration and details for your own soirees.

Up first is the perfect rehearsal to get the party started. Erin and Larry held a casual dinner at Hotel Saint Cecilia, one of the coolest new venues in Austin. The eclectic decor and bistro feel added to the cozy ambiance of this awesome party and one of our favorites, Suzi Q of Q Weddings snapped some serious drool worthy pictures. Me thinks a white peacock might be the up and coming hot accessory after you lay your eyes on these pretties.

Austin’s newest hotel is an elegant blend of European influences and upscale bohemian chic. Erin and Larry did a few portraits, then had their rehearsal dinner. Despite a rainy night, everyone enjoyed the ambience of the bistro’s cozy room with fireplace and bar with a splendid white peacock. Music was provided by Austin’s DJ Chicken George, known for his jazztronica sounds. The food included oysters, scallops, fresh pasta and beef medallions, with catering by a local favorite restaurant, Vespaio.

Austin Elegance ~ Texas Wedding At Barton Creek Resort

I’ve spent the last week or so in beautiful Boston with Abby and family! There were days, I would have sworn I was at home in Houston (more than a few toasty humid days!), but for the most part, another lovely visit!!  And so, to wrap up the Little Black Book Blog for the week, we bring you another style of Texan-true weddings. Don’t get me wrong … we do loooooooove our barbecue and boot-scootin’ music! But when the sun goes down (and the mosquitos are on a rampage), we know when to ramp it up, and head indoors to one of our most elegant resorts.  Let’s just say, we Texans DO clean up rather nicely, we’re the friendliest people that walk the face of the planet and boy (howdy!) do we know how to party!

From the exquisitely talented team at Verbena Floral, another stunning wedding at Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas …

from the beautiful bride …

When we started the wedding planning process, only a few things were of dire importance to us. First, we wanted the wedding to be held in Austin, the place where we went to school, met and have resided for the past ten years. Ironically, while we both live in Austin, almost all of our 250 guests would be traveling to attend the wedding and there is no better place for a weekend getaway than Austin with its fantastic local cuisine and live music scene. Once we settled on Austin, there seemed no better place to have the wedding than Barton Creek Resort and Spa. A full-fledged resort tucked away in the hills of Austin only 10 minutes from downtown seemed to be the perfect outfit to entertain our guests. The guys were able to head out to one of Barton Creek’s world renowned golf courses for a tournament on Friday while other guests treated themselves to the spa, tennis lessons and horseback riding.

And then their once-in-a-lifetime day began!

We knew immediately that we wanted our guests to experience some true Texas and Austin flair. It was then we determined that we could treat our family, friends and those traveling with a trip out to the famous Thurman’s Mansion at the Salt Lick for true Texas barbeque and country music by Jennie and the Corn Ponies. This served as a great compliment to our more traditional wedding and reception the following night.

On our wedding day, Craig and I got married at our church, Tarrytown United Methodist Church. We decided to keep the decorations simple with two modest floral arrangements and votive candles in the windows and really let the church’s elegance speak for itself. Guests were greeted with handmade programs embodied with a simple and crisp monogram of our first names when they got to the church (the same monogram used on our invitations and cocktail napkins). While the monograms were designed and created by the Inviting Pear, in order to cut down on some costs, we decided to write and design the programs ourselves. Four pages of text were bound with a black leather rope and a silver medallion and an outside granite metallic cardstock (with our monogram). Because we were constructing the programs ourselves, we were able to use words more liberally and dedicated two pages to write mini letters to our wedding party members, thanking them for great memories and the impact they’ve had on our lives. Our guests really appreciated having something to read while waiting for the ceremony to begin and it gave everyone a little background on the people who have had a hand in shaping who we are today.

The remainder of our wedding was a mix of the classics with a modern edge. Craig and I left the church for our send-off and walked down the long pathway lit up with luminaries to a 1960 white vintage Bentley. The guests arrived at Barton Creek Resort and Spa to a cocktail hour in a beautiful atrium lit up with blue lighting on the walls as the wedding took on a more icy and modern feel. After the cocktail hour, the reception began in a hall adorned with iced blue lighting and tall centerpieces with rings of white flowers and branches shooting out of the top. Guests dined on heavy appetizers including lobster and goat cheese pastries and crab cakes, coupled with more heartier options like seafood risotto. The bride’s cake had an non-traditional architectural feel and consisted of three white tilting layers, accented by straight geometric grid patterns. The groom’s cake was shaped as the State of Texas with a University of Texas Longhorn decal on the top.

The entertainment by Blind Date, a local Austin band, was the heart and sole of our wedding planning (to the point where we literally planned our wedding date around their availability). Blind Date’s members are amazing performers and we knew that they would be quick to get the party started. One of the most important things to us was to give people a good time as a “thank you” for taking time to travel to Austin for our wedding weekend. We quickly decided to lighten things up by providing our guests with flip flops to dance in, boas, glow necklaces and bracelets and eyeglasses with rims which would light up in multiple different patterns (solid lights, flashing lights, cascading lights, blinking lights). Everyone was thrilled with the “flare” and the dance floor was continuously crowded. The evening ended with yet another toast to Texas as breakfast tacos and OJ shooters were brought out as a nightcap.

Hoffman Haus Wedding by Anne Marie Photography

I’m a detail kind of girl.  You dig?  I imagine many of you do, given your likely penchant for a site like Abby’s, here.  (:  But seriously, details RULE.  They are the measure of relationships, in my estimation and, while I don’t hold anyone to a standard insofar as weddings go, I LOOOOVE me a good close-up shot or cleverly thought out embellishment.  What else do I love?  Well, cowboy boots, pinwheels, bocce ball games and elaborate bridal suite wall paintings, for starters.  And Laurie and Mark’s wedding, photographed by two tremendously talented photographers, Traci Dennis and Kellie Finch of Anne Marie Photography, has fed my insatiable need for such details… to the point where I don’t think I can call it insatiable anymore.  (Are you dying to see all the delightful details at once?  I get it; go ahead and check out the gallery for it all right now!) — xoxo, Alison of The Knotty Bride

Here’s the rundown from our bride, Laurie:

We found the Hoffman Haus 16 months prior when Mark surprised me with a side-trip while in Austin for a friend’s wedding.  It was great to have our friends and family within walking distance all weekend and we really used all of the unique settings within the Hoffman Haus.  The concept was fun, fresh and colorful!  From the Koozie Save-the-Dates to the 80s band, we wanted our guests to feel at home and fall in love with the laid-back, rustic atmosphere of Fredericksburg that we adore.  During the cocktail reception we paid homage to our roots with Pat O’Briens Hurricanes (Mark is from New Orleans) and Sweet Tea for Grown-ups (Laurie is from Georgia) and encouraged our guests have a ball with yard games. We had the entire property for the weekend, so there was no closing time.  In order to keep the party going, we opted not to have a formal departure from our guests.  Since guests were staying near by and the late-night bonfire was roaring, many guests chose to stay after we slipped out until the wee hours. We couldn’t have been happier with the memories, the pictures and the stories that came out of our Texas getaway!  The bridesmaids’ jewelry was custom made by Roper Lane.  I worked with the owner to design each pair to fit each girl’s personality.  They were made of 14k gold and peridot by Annie Evans (owner, designer of Roper Lane) Thank you, Laurie and Mark, for sharing your incredible day with us!!  All the best for a wonderful life together! xoxo, Alison of The Knotty Bride

More details from the day:

The stationery suite – we incorporated a tree motif throughout coupled with French flourishes to give it an elegant feel. Lace was added to integrate a vintage vibe. The paper was ivory and soft blush and dark espresso was used for the ink color.

The floral design – A soft romantic mix of florals in ivory were placed in milk glass containers as well as found objects and wax luminaries. Cotton bowls were used as our country accent and have never looked so stylish. Antique crystal votives surround the centerpieces and prove that mixing containers is not only eclectic but gorgeous!

Tabletop – We chose a solid oak farm style table and benches for our seating to enhance the rustic ambiance. A simple beige and copper china pattern was complimented with hammered flatware and crackled glassware. Napkins in 4 different shades were an added detail that made the setting more intricate.
