Jacksonville Treaty Oak Park Engagement

These two southern sweethearts are proof that sometimes a blind date can result in happily ever after. They strolled through Jacksonville Treaty Oak Part for a love session documented by Stephanie W Photography, and the result is one adorable capture after another. Click here for so much more.

From the Bride and Groom-to-be… We met in Jacksonville, Florida through a mutual friend who was one of my sorority sisters and also his childhood friend. She set us up on a blind date, the first for both of us. We had dinner and drinks at a local restaurant in Atlantic Beach called Ragtime Tavern. Our first date lasted three hours long and we knew it would only be the first of many. Flash forward two years later, we took a trip to San Diego to visit friends who were relocated to the naval base there. He proposed at sunset in Temecula, California while we were wine tasting at Leonesse Winery. The proposal was absolutely perfect and I was so happy when he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

We decided to go with the traditional southern chic look for our engagement session back in Jacksonville. We love the big oak tree surrounding Treaty Oak Park downtown and also the historic area and houses of San Marco. I chose to wear white and blush pink shades, keeping with our traditional southern look. I also wanted to incorporate wearing some lace in our engagement shoot, keeping with my style of my wedding dress. We were so comfortable with Stephanie and she really made the shoot memorable. We can’t wait to have her capture our special moments on our wedding day this October!

Intimate North Carolina Mountain Wedding

As summer slowly gives way to fall, this beautiful mountain wedding couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s a celebration of all things autumn with an intimate 30-guest approach, and as for the killer styling and blooms by Philosophy Flowers? Well, that doesn’t hurt one bit either. Get started in the gallery from Boonetown Story and prepare to be smitten.

From the Bride… Breathtaking = one word to describe every part of our wedding day. From the scenery, to the flowers, to the man I was about to marry- every little detail was breathtaking.

Marcus and I lived on Heavenly Mountain in Boone, NC during his senior year of college. The beauty and serenity was incomparable & it’s the place we fell in love. It only felt natural to get married in the place we love most, the NC Mountains.

Twickenham house was a fairy tale from the moment you turned into the 2 mile long driveway. The same way you know you’ve found “the one” is the way we knew Twickenham was the place we would get married. The wrought iron gates at the entrance, the ivy growing up the brick, the breathtaking 180 degree views, all nestled in seclusion on the side of a mountain. It was perfect for our intimate wedding weekend with 30 of our closest friends and family.

The morning of our wedding, I was very calm; no nerves or anxiety. My wedding planner, Melissa, said “you’re the calmest bride I’ve ever seen!” Apparently my groom wasn’t nervous either; I heard he went on a morning jog then sat in the sauna for a while. When the moment came to take our “first look” pictures, that’s when everything hit me. All these emotions flooded my head and my heart; excitement, nerves (I didn’t want to fall), happiness, love, etc… This was the moment I had been waiting for all my life. To marry my soul mate. It was the most emotional moment of my life.

Everything about our wedding day was perfect. It was so much more than we dreamed. The only thing we would change would be the ability to add more hours to the day.

Cultural Beauty at Tappan Hill Mansion

We simply adore Justin & Mary around these parts, but when they send us a wedding this stunning, this full of meaning – we want to give them the biggest virtual hug of all time. Because it doesn’t get more gorgeous than the images sitting pretty below, it simply doesn’t. It’s two beautiful ceremonies wrapped up in one picture perfect gallery, and you can see them all here

From the Bride…Our wedding represented a joining of our love and friendship, and also a joining of our families of different religions and cultures. It was sometimes challenging to weave all of the important aspects of our cultures together, but we look back on the day with warmth and sheer satisfaction. Our wedding was an all-day affair starting with the Jain ceremony in the morning followed by lunch, and continued on into the evening with the Catholic ceremony and festivities. The Indian ceremony was colorfully animated while the Catholic ceremony was quiet and serene, leaving us feeling like we were the only two people there. Nature played a big role in our choice of venue. We wanted to be near trees and water, and Tappan Hill Mansion overlooking the Hudson River onto New Jersey (where we both grew up) was perfectly fitting. While it was a big wedding we wanted the details to feel simple and personal. On multiple occasions we gathered friends and family members to assemble programs, paint table numbers, and stamp favor bags. The planning process gave us a chance to learn more about each other, our families, and create a unity that we will maintain in our marriage for the years ahead.

Classic Westchester Engagement Session

Rebecca Yale Photography and engagements go together like bow ties and lace. It’s true. She knows just how to capture her couples’ love stories effortlessly every time. In fact, my fiancé and I are doing our very own e-sesh with this lovely lady tomorrow! I can’t contain my excitement and this pretty, pretty love session is partly to blame. With the Bride-to-be, Samantha, also a stylist and owner of Missing Piece, their shoot was bound to be gorgeous from the get-go. Get lost in the stunning gallery right here!

From Rebecca Yale PhotographyLiving in New York City there are so many beautiful spots to photograph, but sometimes you just have to get out of it for a breath of fresh air and gorgeous greenery. For Sam and Joel’s engagement session we headed out to her parent’s home in Westchester, which was the perfect setting for lovely summer photos set against the backdrop of a 100 year old home and lush green trees full of golden light. Samantha is an incredible stylist based in New York City who is a regular at New York City Fashion Week and has worked with everyone from Stacy London to Badgley Mischka and Nylon Magazine. She styled her engagement photos perfectly with flattering summery dresses in shades of pink and cream to bring a timeless elegance to her photos. Below she shares some tips on how to style the perfect engagement session!

From Samantha Brown of the Missing Piece… As tempting as it may be to style your engagement session with dramatic or bold pieces, you want to make sure you opt for clothing that will let your love story be the main focus. Anything too trendy will distract from your facial expressions and body language. Your clothes can completely change the tone of your photographs so keep in mind how you want to look and the color story you want to tell. Look for clothing and accessories that will stand the test of time–you don’t want to look back on these photos later and wish you had worn something different. Keep it clean and classically you and your engagement session will remain a timeless treasure in your relationship.

Classic Miami Wedding with a Modern Twist

In terms of modern seaside weddings, Miami sets the precedent. And with the crazy good art deco backdrop of the Royal Palm South Beach, this couple set out to craft a destination wedding that’s all at once classic but with a cool South Beach vibe. Who better to capture all the al fresco festivities than Jasmine Star? See all her gorgeous handiwork and a night spent dancing under the stars right here.

From the Bride, Jenney… Miami holds a special place in our hearts. When we first began dating, we took a long weekend trip to Miami and during that trip, it became crystal clear to us both how very RIGHT it felt to be together. Soon after our engagement, we began casually talking about wedding plans and the idea of having a destination wedding in Miami just seemed to fit. We decided the same week of our engagement that Miami would be a perfect place to celebrate with all of our family and friends – and didn’t look back! We chose to have both the ceremony and reception on-site at The James so that we could spend as much time with our family and friends as possible. I loved the way we were able to drape the lanai of The James to transform the space for our cozy and intimate ceremony. The end result was gorgeous! We decided early on that we wanted someone who knew us to perform our ceremony and we were honored to have my brother, Chris, marry us. He invested a lot in making the wedding so touching by incorporating our story, values, a few laughs and our personal vows into the ceremony. Having my brother officiate the ceremony just made everything feel that much more intimate for our family and friends! Our personal vows were the highlight for both Chuck and I – my brother kept these totally secret from us until the big day and we were both so moved to hear them for the first time. We loved the idea of our guests dining and dancing under the stars in Miami – and that’s exactly what they did! We played up the natural elements of the outdoor space by creating two distinct dining spaces at the reception which framed the center of it all – the bistro lit, open air dance floor. Loved that this unique element brought everyone together – and kept everyone together – all night long! We also created several lounge spaces for guests to enjoy cocktails and cigars throughout the space – playing up the Miami vibe. I will be the first to say I did not think I would be a crazy bride – especially while shopping for a dress. But, after searching high and low for the perfect gown and not really loving anything, I decided to have my dress made by Diana Tran, a local dress-maker in Washington DC. Chuck and I both favored classic and simple silhouettes and I knew that Diana could help me achieve something spectacular yet classic – and something I could love and call my own! Diana and I decided on a classic shape modified from a column and mermaid shape combined, with a little flounce for the train. Using lightweight silk for the fabric kept things light and airy in the heat of Miami. I wanted the dress to speak for itself – without too much accessorizing – so we opted to focus attention on beautiful seaming details on the bodice and skirt (a nod to the mid century and art-deco details of South Beach and The James), adding a touch of softness with the details on the neckline, back and train. It was the perfect mix of classic and modern and the entire creation process was so fun!

Rustic Elegant Home Tour

Between my own blog and my role as editor for Style Me Pretty Living, I’ve been exposed to a lot when it comes to home tours. It’s been an absolute pleasure to get lost in the world of beautiful interiors, but I’d be lying if I said that my bar for pretty hasn’t been set incredibly high. These days, there are few places that leave me breathless. But Greige Design has done just that. With photos from Ashlee Raubach, let’s get lost.

From Greige Design… Our kitchen had not been touched since the house was built and was basically open but a very boring 90’s design style. We decided that as time went by we would be using the space in various ways and wanted to have a larger bar for everyday use and for entertaining. We leveled out the bar area and expanded it by a few feet on each side. This is one of the best changes for this space as it has opened up the kitchen and added storage on both sides as well as under the islands seating area. I like things pretty simple and did not want to commit to a color on the cabinetry throughout, so I did a creamy white on the main cabinetry and a light grey on the island with a small bead detail and shaker style doors.

When we started we had a large pantry in the nook area, it was huge but the distance to the work space in the kitchen was inconvenient so we replaced that with a custom glass topped cabinet, the bottom has drawers and solid doors to keep the clutter hidden as well as my abundant amount of table linens and napkins, while the top holds our everyday dishes along with my collection of serving pieces and glassware.

The Bling chandelier in the nook is a great little glam contrast with the vintage pendants that hang over the island.  I have had a crush on that piece forever and needed to find a spot for it.  It is a little larger than most pieces that you might find over a smaller dining table but it makes the statement that I was looking for in there as my colors and overall design style was pretty simple.  The nook table was a piece I had made based off of a table I saw but could not get my hands on and is a fun and durable contrast to the Klismos style chairs.

Our living room is a combination of some of my favorite things.  I have a deep love for vintage batik and have collected the sofa pillows and other pieces over the years hear and there.  The two lounge chairs are vintage French pieces that I brought back last summer after a buying trip in Paris and had recovered in vintage linen sourced on the same trip.  Our cocktail table is a custom piece I had made years ago and is a little worse for wear but I love the shape and the off beat feeling that it gives.

I have added and subtracted pieces over the years in this space and it continues to evolve as I find treasure currently we have the lucite cube and a small garden stool as side tables in there which are fun and a little off beat. The collection of vintage frames and mirrors is a organically growing piece that I try to add to as I find new pieces.

This was the first room I furnished with new pieces when we moved to this house.  I had never had a formal dining room and I was so excited to make a statement.  The table is a teak slab that has gotten more attention than any piece I have ever shown in my portfolio, it is a great piece that is so simple but unique.  I picked up the vintage chairs at the flea market for a steal and had them recovered in vintage grain sacks that had a heavy texture.  The Palecek head chairs are from ages ago and were one of my first major furniture pieces when I first started as a designer on my own. This space was challenging for artwork as the window is high but it is not conducive to having a really tall art or architectural piece there.  I feel for these two art pieces at a show and it took me months to take the plunge and finally have them made for this space.

When we bought this house we were not looking to move but could not pass up the size of the yard in our existing neighborhood.  The space screamed for a pool but our ideas were not realized until last year when we put the pool and cabana in.  The space is oddly shaped and it was a challenge to get all that we wanted into the space in a layout that felt like it fit the style of our home and design concept.  The cabana is a perfect way to draw the eye out to the back of the space without having you focus on the proximity of the neighbors behind.  We completely re-landscaped the space and as the landscape matures it is creating a great feeling of a true outdoor room.

Romantic Outoor Wedding at Annadel Estate in Sonoma

Sonoma weddings always seem to dance on the side of lovely. But this one. Well, this one is both lovely and innately personal – handcrafted by California’s finest of course. Photographed by Kate Webber with design by A Savvy Event and florals by Nancy Liu Chin – this celebration is exactly what we preach on SMP. Make it beautiful, make it personal. Click here for even more.

From the bride…We wanted to have a destination wedding so that we could extend the wedding celebrations and enjoy a full weekend of wedding festivities with our family and closest friends. Sonoma, California was a natural choice as Craig and I bonded over our mutual love and passion for great food and wine. We envisioned our wedding weekend filled with delicious meals and great local wines in a beautiful setting where everyone truly felt like a part of the celebration.

Craig and I are both foodies and much of our planning focused on the food and wine. Our inspiration was “French country” – an homage to Paris where we were engaged – and we worked with an amazing team of vendors who helped bring our culinary vision to life!

This was a foodie wedding with a twist –I have celiac disease and cannot eat gluten, and both Craig and I are lactose intolerant; so it was important to us that our menu was inclusive of all dietary restrictions. We designed a menu that was gluten and dairy-free – including our wedding cake buffet! It was our big fat, gluten-free, dairy-free dream wedding. “Magical” was the word so many of our guests used to describe the weekend – and it was just that; we had our perfect ending.

DIY Ombré Linen Art

Art is one of those things that completely makes a room. It’s that last little layer that instantly transforms a house into a home. But there’s no question that the stuff can run you a pretty penny. Especially when you’re looking for a piece of this scale. But with a little know-how, and a handful of linen, you can instantly transform your room into a thing of great beauty. Have no fear, we’ll show you how!

Materials3 yards linen fabric
RIT fabric dye in teal, aqua, and denim blue
Plastic gloves & apron
Drying rack
Hot glue gun & glue sticks
Scissors
Plastic dropcloth

instructions

step-1Rip the linen into roughly 2” wide strips (they will be the length of the width of your fabric, about 45”) until all the linen is in strips.

step-2Separate the linen into groups of 10 strips. Set up an area to dye the fabric- lay down the dropcloth and set the drying rack on top. Presume the dye will splatter and drip even when you are being super careful, so dress accordingly. Ideally, use an outdoor space on a dry, warm day that’s not too windy.

step-3Fill a large metal or glass mixing bowl with hot, close-to-boiling water. Pour in a small amount of teal dye and mix with a metal spoon (or other non-wooden utensil, wood will stain). You will start with the lightest colors first and add more dye as you go.

step-4Put on your gloves & apron. Dip a group of 10 strips into the bowl and stir until the fabric is covered. Let soak a few seconds to a minute until you see a slight color. Pull out each strip one by one, running your fingers down the strip to remove any excess water, then hang on the drying rack. Make sure the strips hang flat on the rack so they don’t dry wrinkly.

step-5Add a bit more dye to the bowl and stir, then add the next batch of strips and repeat step 4. Continue until you have dyed all the strips, ending with the darkest batch of dye. Mix in a bit of the other colors of dye with each batch so you alternate the tone as well as the deepness of the color.

step-6Let the strips dry for 1 hour. Lay the canvas on a large table or the floor, and arrange the strips on the canvas. Each strip should overlap the one next to it by about half. Let the colors flow from light to dark, alternating tones as you go.

step-7Once you are happy with the composition, you can glue the strips in place. Make sure to glue strips around the side of the canvas as well as the front. We put a dot of glue under one edge of each strip to ensure they were spaced evenly, then went back and put a dot of glue under the center and other end of each strip.

step-8Trim the excess fabric from the canvas and glue down any loose ends. Hang the canvas and admire your handiwork!

Northwest Fall Inspired Elopement

If the slight crispness in the air is any indication, Fall is just around the corner. And while you may be soaking up every last minute of these warm summer days, this inspiration will have you dreaming up a gorgeous Fall affair. Styled by New Creations Weddings with florals by Columbia City Bouquet and photography by Kelly Lemon, this is an intimate lakeside elopement with the perfect dose of glamour.

When discussing the inspiration for this northwest fall inspired elopement, we wanted to focus on deep rich colors and allow the gold to give that glamour touch to it. Really bringing in the style and beauty of the Northwest without going too over the top. The NW has so many great natural backdrops with our mountains and waterways, so we decided to enhance the feature of being out on the water on a floating dock. Bringing in the dark emerald green with the pop of gold sequin really made the tablescape stand out from the dock, while keeping the overall look of subdued glamour. Keeping it sweet and simple with a faux fur throw, pillow and simple place settings really allowed for the natural beauty and the couple to shine.

Cicada Bridal helped us select a dress that gave the mood that this couple was stylish but relaxed. So the form fitting lace dress was a perfect fit, being comfortable and fitting for an elopement out in the woods, and was flattering in all the right places on our beautiful model.
Columbia City Bouquet really brought our vision to life, when she spray painted different greens in the bouquets and florals gold, giving a pop of glamour within a very natural setting and we feel that truly represents the northwest – relaxed, lots of earth tones, appreciating nature with a pop of glamour and style

DIY Michigan Farm Wedding

Get ready to have your socks charmed off SMPers, because this DIY barn wedding couldn’t be more adorable it if tried. Beautifully captured by Kelly Sweet Photography, every sweet detail sitting in this gallery will make your wedding-loving heart sing, and you can see why I am gushing here.

From the Bride…Being a wedding photographer myself, I thought of my whole wedding in pictures. I have been obsessed with wedding since I was little and have been reading wedding blogs and magazines since way before I even met Brian. I knew I wanted something rustic and vintage but I also wanted to try not to do the same thing as everyone else. One of the most important things to me in planning our wedding was that everything reflected us and who we are. I knew immediately that I wanted to use my vintage camera collection and thought that centerpieces would be the best way to use them. But I also wanted to include Brian in them so we decided to use potted herbs because he is a cook and is amazing with seasonings. We both love to read and I love old books so we added those as well as teacups that we collected at thrift stores over the many months before the wedding.

We looked at a lot of venues but nothing seemed quite right until we found The Hitching Post. The outdoor location for the ceremony was perfect and I loved the look of the inside of the barn! We also loved that the venue was very open to our use of different vendors.

I am very crafty and a DIY kind of person so I knew that I wanted to make a lot of the stuff. My mom sewed the flower girl dresses, the groom and ring bearers vests, all of the guys’ ties, some of the banners, and personalized monogrammed totes for the bridesmaids. She also made all the cards that we used for our guest book. She is amazing!

I made my bouquet out of a mix of thrift store, vintage, and Hobby Lobby door knobs. It was very heavy but so perfect! I also made my necklace and also necklaces for all the bridesmaids. I handmade Brian’s ring which turned out great. I hand painted all the signs, made all the boutonnieres and corsages, and the banner above our head table. I designed all the stationary including the save the date, invitations, menu, other cards for the tables, and the programs. I really wanted everything to be personal and meaningful.

My dad built the picture display and also collected, grew, and did everything with the herbs. He also painted and stenciled all the little wooden signs that were given to our guests as favors. He also made the awesome wedding sign that we put out by the road. He surprised me with a whole succulent garden on the day we went to decorate. My parents and brother helped assemble the programs and the place cards. I really have a wonderful and helpful family.

Lots of other friends and family helped out too. My matron of honor made all the bridesmaid bouquets; other friends did the flower arranging, several different friends and family members made the treats that were on our dessert table. It was great having desserts that were personalized- my aunt made her peanut butter fudge that I have grown up with, and my grandma made her caramel and chocolate dipped pretzel sticks which she has been making for years. We made sure to include some of our favorite desserts.

I let each of my bridesmaids pick out their own dresses because I wanted them to have something that they liked and that they could wear again. One we even found at a thrift store for $15! Brian has been wearing converse shoes since he was a baby so we knew that we had to have all the guys wear them.

Kelly of Kelly Sweet Photography did our pictures and did a fabulous job! She captured the day perfectly and I love how the pictures turned out!

I seriously could not have asked for a better day. The whole day went so smoothly. It rained a bit in the morning but the weather was absolutely perfect for the rest of the day. It truly was the best day ever and I got to marry my best friend. We both had so much fun and are so thankful to our friends and family who joined us and made the day so amazing. I miss it already!

Classic Fall Dallas Wedding

They say everything is bigger in Texas, but this wedding is sort of a happy exception. It’s love-centered simplicity done with elegance and grace, and thanks to Apryl Ann Photography and Copper Penny Films we’re getting a first-hand peek. Cozy up and enjoy!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/63820012 600 338]

From the Bride… My husband and I met at a club in Dallas Texas called Glass (which is unusual because neither of us frequent clubs!) He had just moved back to Texas from North Carolina where he had finished up his Master’s at Duke University. I had graduated from Southern Methodist University and was working in Oil and Gas. We hit it off right away and got engaged soon after in New York City under the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.

We then went to Niagara Falls (one of my favorite places) and Toronto to meet his family. For our ceremony we had a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony where we honored our parents and relatives by serving them tea. We also had a traditional Christian ceremony at Park Cities Presbyterian Church as well- I absolutely love the stained glass windows of the church and the beautiful memories it carries for me.

I picked the Dallas Arboretum because I loved the flowers, rustic charm and scenic views of the lake and the Dallas skyline. It was absolutely perfect weather in November and we danced the night away under the stars. I had spent time making sure there were a lot of personal details including plenty of Etsy purchases!

The flowers had lots of green and white in them with touches of red and most of the decor was DIY’d by myself and my mother or purchased from Etsy. My dresses I actually bought preowned- the Aimee Atelier dress I found on preownedweddingdresses.com from a bride in New Zealand and the J Mendel dress I found for $150 dollars on Ebay. I tailored them to be unique just for me and felt awesome in them. All the little details really made the day special but the most important part of the day was the love and joy that surrounded us as we celebrated with our family and friends.

Mexico Elopement with a Statement Orange Dress

While it would easy to talk about much I adore this bride’s alternative orange wedding dress – which, trust me, I could do ALL day – there’s so much more to this story. It’s an impromptu elopement planned in just two weeks, and a true celebration of what love is all about. Have a read for the full story below, and don’t miss your peek at the gallery from Taryn Baxter.

From The Bride… Like our elopement, our love has been about living in the moment. My now husband, Paul, has been there for me through thick and thin, in sickness and in health, literally. Paul and I actually met in high school, and even went to prom together. But that was not when we fell in love. It was years later when we crossed paths on a beach that we found each other again. Despite a whirlwind of traveling apart – me in Australia, Fiji, Thailand and Europe over 3 years – him living abroad in Prague and then finishing up school in Canada – we never gave up on each other. We finally settled down in Denver,

Colorado and were engaged within three months of buying our first home. Right after we got engaged we knew we wanted to make it into an adventure. We originally planned on a big wedding of all our family and friends in the northern jungles of Thailand. However, only five months later I found myself undergoing multiple biopsies and breast cancer scares.

Although I was only 27, nearly all the females in my family had breast cancer at a young age. And that’s when I became a previvor of breast cancer. In January 2013 I had a prophylactic double mastectomy.

Paul supported me through everything and was my rock when I needed him the most. With our medical bills piling up we realized that we had to cancel our wedding in Thailand and look at different avenues. While it was a difficult time for us, it was a blessing in disguise for our wedding.

Having to cancel our large wedding made us focus on the important parts of getting married. I was sad to miss the experience of having a big wedding and a bit worried that I would regret it, but once I started to take the steps I remembered why we were getting married in the first place, which is a celebration of the love we had built together. And ironically as soon as we decided to elope was when the fun began and the stress and anxiety stopped.

We actually planned our elopement in two weeks. At the time of our planning my mom was vacationing in Hawaii and Paul’s mom was in Scotland. Both of us do not have fathers, so we have always known we would not have a large family presence. Only three days before the wedding I told my mom we would be eloping. Despite the short notice, walking her only daughter down the aisle was monumental to her and she booked the next flight down. Having her there meant more to me than I would ever know and it was a really big moment in our relationship.

Eloping became about us going on an adventure together and living in the moment. The location itself also became the inspiration. Zihuatanejo as a location was an easy decision. One of the reasons we chose Zihuatanejo is because the culture itself is about living in the moment – the locals are full of laughter and sharing happiness, having fun and relaxing. We also chose Zihuatanejo because of its variety of small, intimate boutique hotels. Also, Paul and I are big foodies so we were excited to explore the culinary variety and quality that Zihuatanejo is known for. Zihuatanejo ended up representing really what we are all about.

I had scoured blogs and had been planning a big wedding for the past year so it was fairly easy to know what I did and did not want, what was important and unimportant. For me, my dress and shoes were important – I wanted to feel like a princess on my big day. For the wedding in Thailand I had originally chosen The Duchess dress by Aster and Ivy. I realized quickly that the pastel ballerina-like dress would not do the trick in such a vibrant, vivacious setting in Zihuatanejo. I knew that I wanted an untraditional dress for our untraditional wedding. Paul’s favorite color is orange so looked for coral colored dresses that would have a wedding vibe to them. As soon as I found the coral and white Erin Featherston dress

I knew I had found the gown of my dreams. This dress came alive, it glowed and I glowed, in the lush setting of our resort and Zihuatanejo. Plus the white ombre gave it a bridal feel without a bridal price tag.

My flowers were from a local Zihuatanejo florist that we found on the corner of a side street. The senorita there was delighted and giddy to make my wedding bouquet and his boutonniere. Our only guidelines were to keep it all white and whimsical. My jewellery on the wedding day is all from little boutiques across Denver. They are classic yet whimsical, and I feel complement the vibrancy of our day’s design. I did my hair and makeup myself. I have had my hair and makeup done at weddings by others in the past – I have learned what looks good and where and when to stop or add. Because it was so hot out I had to have my hair up. We added some of the baby’s breath to my hair as a last-minute addition, something that added a bit more whimsy to my look.

Our wedding day was really about enjoying our time together from the moment we woke up until the moment we went to bed. We spent the morning relaxing in our private pool, writing our vows, and soaking up the natural beauty of the hotel and scenery. I have been to so many wedding where the bride and groom are running around frazzled; ours was the complete opposite. We enjoyed every moment.

Getting ready was also something that was unlike other weddings I have been to. I was able to take my time, reminisce with my mom, and reflect on the celebration. Not to mention, in the beauty of our suite, I felt like the most beautiful person on earth – something that I had not felt since my surgery.

The ceremony itself was held on the deck at my mom’s villa where Paul was getting ready. My mother walked me down the “aisle” which was a pathway between our villa and hers. Our wedding song “In the Morning” by Junior Boys was playing on the ipod dock. When I walked out on the patio he took my breath away; I was about to marry the most gorgeous man in the world. The sun was shining and we felt like we were the only people on earth, completely caught up in each other – it was surreal!

We decided to conduct the ceremony ourselves so we could make it personal rather than get a stranger to speak at our extremely intimate wedding. Our plan was to each say what our definition of love and marriage was, then my mom would say a tribute and give us the rings, then we would say our vows. We got caught up in the moment and each other and forgot that my mom was supposed to speak! I started crying as soon as Paul opened his mouth and our love poured from our hearts over each other and the bays of Zihuatanejo. I remember thinking as soon as our vows began that I would not want to have a wedding any other way, with anyone else but us two standing on that deck, right then and right there. It was perfect.

Our photographer was Taryn Baxter. I know Taryn from working in Victoria, Canada and have been completely obsessed with her work since. Having her there only made the day better; she made us feel totally comfortable especially for my husband who is extremely camera shy. It was fascinating to watch her in her creative zone, snapping away. You could really tell that photography is what she’s meant to do, it was a beautiful thing to watch. My favorite thing about my photos is all of the little looks, laughs and details Taryn captured. She told our story.

After the ceremony we headed to the cozy lounge, ordered champagne, and had some laughs. We then had a taxi take us down to the Zihuatanejo square to take pictures. We walked along a path that curled along the ocean front down to the fishing pier and town square. The waves were crashing and we had to dodge them the best we could as to not get wet. Down at the fishing pier locals stared and smirked at us while we took pictures, probably wondering why we would be taking pictures there. But to us it was beautiful and captured the true culture of Zihuatanejo.

My biggest words of advice to brides is to give yourself plenty of time to get ready and never lose sight of what you want during your day. Don’t forget what it’s all about. One thing I would change about the wedding is to have our brothers there. Although it was nice to have a very intimate wedding, nothing compares to the support and love from your family.

Lovely Maryland Horse Farm Wedding at Woodlawn Manor

OK, I pretty much love this couple. Their love story started in kindergarten. Yes, kindergarten – where they shared their very first crush. I mean, how adorable is that? Flash forward to years later and that crush developed into something much more, allowing us to swoon over a wedding that is not only gorgeous, but as sweet as they come. See even more from Meghan Boyer here.

From Meghan BoyerImagine marrying that boy you had your first kindergarten crush on. When you were five. These two did just that. Their story is almost as sweet as they are themselves. Reunited many years later and realizing they were in each other’s kindergarten class was the beginning of their life together. Their wedding was filled with joy and fun as they celebrated at the beautiful Woodlawn Manor. A couple with simple, tasteful style, they put on one beautiful, and fun, wedding day for their guests.

Preppy and Elegant Charleston Wedding at Creek Club At I’on

Prepsters, this is a wedding you’ll want to pay attention to. Actually, it’s a wedding everyone will want to pay attention to. With a smile-inducing color palette, stripes galore, and a super adorable Bride and Groom – this gallery from Reese Moore Weddings is basically the definition of prep chic. See more here.

From Reese Moore WeddingsIt’s hard not to love Allie and Peyton: they’re adorable, fun, and absolutely smitten with each other. Their wedding was the perfect fusion of their personalities and personal style! Nautical elements like coral print pillows on marsh-side lounges, rope and coral accents, broad navy and white stripe ribbon, and sophisticated anchor bottle opener favors harkened to their love of the Lowcountry, while Allie’s sassy glitter flats and epic Augusta Jones gown paid tribute to her bubbly, feminine personality. I could certainly go on, but I think the bride says it best:

From the Bride…As soon as my (now) husband and I got engaged I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted our wedding to look like. I wanted it to be the best representation of ourselves! Preppy, elegant but not stuffy, colorful and with a nod to our coastal upbringings. I loved the coral and navy color combo because it seemed to tie in all these themes, and I LOVED the navy and white striped linens which seemed to bring in an extra nautical element. Our venue at the Creek Club at I’on really highlighted our love of Charleston and it’s beautiful water landscape. The big porches allowed our guests to enjoy the unseasonably warm evening and give them the feeling of being at one of those fancy downtown garden parties. Everything turned out exactly how I dreamed.

I loved the big floral arrangements at the ceremony and we were blessed with a gorgeous wedding party! I had so much fun coming up with other details to incorporate like the rope monkey’s fist, pieces of actual coral, accent pillows, vases from antique stores, fun straws, really I just had blast with all the planning! Oh and the invitations were one of my favorite pieces! A friend and I designed them from scratch and the Map Save the Date really set the tone of the style early on. All in all it was the best day of my life and brought me even closer with my soulmate and our family and friends!

From Hazelnut PhotographyTwo people couldn’t be more in sync with one another. It seems they’ve been following each other for most of their lives. Now, they are next to one another, standing side by side, as they take on this new life adventure together! Michelle & Bryan went to rival high schools in Southern California, but didn’t meet until they both ended up at Penn for college. They’ve been together since their freshman year and finally tied the knot on Saturday!

These two, Michelle & Bryan, are so absolutely perfect for each other. Their wedding day will go down as one of my favorites, because it was so genuine. It seemed to be a perfect representation of them, as individuals and as a couple. They have a beautiful respect for one another, an immense love for their families and true admiration for their friends. It was an incredible day, full of love and laughter and I couldn’t be more thrilled for the two of them!

A Black and White Office

I’ve come a long way with my aversion to color in recent years. But just when I thought I was on board with all shades of the rainbow, this little beauty landed in my inbox. It’s black and white and all sorts of lovely and I simply can’t get enough. Hopefully Shannon Moffit doesn’t mind my staring for her office is a little slice of heaven. And if you’re looking for more, you can find it right here.

From Shannon Moffit… Welcome to my brand new black and white office! The first time I laid eyes on that acrylic swivel chair, I KNEW we were meant to be soul mates! I know it sounds ridiculous, but I was inspired by that chair alone! It gave me a vision of a simple, modern, and elegant black and white office, complete with a gallery wall of some of my black and white photography work, a rain drop chandelier, and DIY spray-painted details (since of course, we are all on a budget). I can’t believe it is FINALLY done… and it turned out better than I could have imagined! It is true to my style and my photography brand, so I am very proud of this space! I just LOVE walking past it every morning and especially LOVE sitting in my swivel chair (it’s more comfortable than it looks, ha)! I hope you are inspired by it too!

Rustic

From Hey Gorgeous Events… Hidden Vineyard Wedding Barn is an absolutely remarkable space in southwest Michigan for the bride and groom searching for that unique place to get married. If there was a high end locale for rustic-loving and barn-searching couples this would be it! After the kind owners of the property contacted me late last summer regarding a collaboration with some of the most talented vendors in the Midwest, I jumped at the opportunity to create something truly lovely with them.

We wanted to do something a little different and unexpected though, so we incorporated a rich color scheme made up of purples, plums, lavenders, ivories, whites and blush pinks to juxtapose against the dark woods and rich textures of both the barn and property. Instead of traditional silver or the all trendy gold as an accent we decided to infuse a little copper into the shoot with some hammered metal chargers, copper foil stationery and copper vases for our cocktail tables. From the bride’s classic beauty, the grooms good looks, that absolutely stunning ceremony tree (there’s only one other tree of that variety in the entire country!), and the rustic yet higher end look we were aiming for, it was such a pleasure bringing together this team to create such an awesome end result!
