From Brinton Studios… We met Matt and Kati about 7 or 8 years ago – really at the beginning of both of our careers in the wedding industry. Downstairs, in a dark basement, we told Matt how much we hated DJs that brought banners to weddings (yes, that really happens). Matt quickly ran up to his booth and tore his down after Kati agreed. Since then, he and his Elite DJ team have become the premier DJ company in Denver with incredible setups. But more importantly, we have continued to be great friends. We’ve met family, we’ve traveled together and now we have the pleasure to say we’ve been a part of their wedding. We knew it would be a quaint affair with a lot of music and a lot of fun. They both had a love for Steamboat so it was an afterthought to get married up there in a new venue for us – the Bella Vista. With spectacular views and a very inviting pool (see pool photos below), Kara with Love This Day Events helped put together this soft romantic gem.

Matt and Kati, thank you for being friends, business colleagues and just great people. It has been an immense pleasure being with you over the past years.

Fairytale Wedding at Thornewood Castle

This Seattle soiree has all the major components of a modern day fairytale. Thornewood Castle as the backdrop? Check! Custom-designed Italian engagement ring? Check! Stunning Galia Lahav gown? Check! From the pink Aria Style blooms to the gorgeous glass slipper moment a la Valentino, every moment Stephanie Cristalli captured is fit for a storybook ending, right here!

From Perfectly Posh Events… Slava was raised in Moscow and Jessica was raised in the Seattle area. Their paths crossed as a result of their passion for ballroom dancing and now they are dancing professionally as award-winning dance partners.

Slava and Jessica met at a dance tryout in Los Angeles in April 2010. They decided to dance together shortly after and a few months later, Slava surprised Jessica with a bouquet of red roses as they were on their way to the dance studio. They decided to move to Seattle from California so Jessica could be near her family and proceeded on an incredible journey, opening a new dance studio while creating a life and home together.

For their wedding, Jessica & Slava wanted a memorable intimate affair with their closest family and friends. They both really love romantic classic European styles and selected Thornewood Castle as the backdrop for their personal fairy tale. Jessica loves feminine details and chose a color palette of light pink, blush, champagne and ivory.

Their intimate ceremony was held in the picturesque sunken garden surrounded by roses and hydrangea bushes. Jessica walked down a very long aisle on a carpet of rose petals before they said their “I Do’s” under a gorgeous floral arch with a stunning chandelier. One of my favorite personal touches in the ceremony space was the custom-made banners for each family crest that hung on the castle towers on either side of the ceremony space, not only did they fit the fairy tale theme perfectly but it also tied in their family heritages which are extremely important to Jessica and Slava.

Aria Style created the perfect romantic ambiance for the ceremony and reception with hundreds of roses and lush floral arrangements. I loved the design that we did with the tables, complete with blush pink linen layered with lace, vintage dishes, menus tied with lace and ribbon, tables named after ballroom dances, and drop-dead-gorgeous centerpieces! The reception was filled with lots of love and laughter, champagne in abundance, delicious food and of course plenty of dancing. To end the evening, Jessica and Slava departed in a vintage blue Lincoln Continental Convertible after being showered with rose petals by their family and friends. It was truly a modern day fairy tale!

From the beautiful Bride… On a sunny Sunday in June last year, Slava suggested that we go for a walk in the Bellevue Botanical Gardens – he looked very dashing all dressed up in a suit, so I put on my favorite pink sundress. We held hands as we walked through the garden and stopped to rest on a beautiful bench in the forest. The afternoon light was shining golden through the verdant green of the trees and there were butterflies occasionally flitting by, and the music of birds chirping happily. Then Slava got on his knee and proposed to me and I said yes! He presented me with the most beautiful, custom-designed Italian engagement ring, which he had secretly had made during our visits to Southern California for dancing. We bought pink champagne to celebrate at the outdoor patio of a cafe on Bellevue’s main street, and then we went to tell my parents, who welcomed Slava into the family. Shortly after, we also called Slava’s family in Bulgaria and Moscow to share the news!

Romantic Winter Wedding

This, my friends, is the perfect winter wedding; a fabulous combo of rich red and purple hues, the crazy gorgeous stylings of Spotlight Event Planning & Design and layers upon layers of snowy goodness.  Add in the always wonderful backdrop of Vancouver and some lush blooms crafted by Blooming Aisle Floral Design and, voila.  Winter wonderland in one, two, three.  See it all captured by Elle&R right here.

From Spotlight Event Planning & Design…. Right from the beginning, Sheena and Ben had a beautiful vision of a winter “Mountain Vista” wedding. They wanted their day to have fresh snow, warm fireplaces, a cozy log cabin, and be tied together with a fabulous touch of vintage elegance. Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver, BC was able to provide the perfect setting for this December wedding. Although Sheena is originally from Vancouver, they both now live in the UK, and planned their entire wedding from abroad with the help of their wedding planner, Paige Petriw of Spotlight Event Planning & Design.

To reflect their personalities, the day needed to be timeless, unique and fun. They’re both young at heart, playful and classy all at the same time. Needless to say, they love adventure and winter getaways. All these characteristics were used to personalize every detail of their wedding day.

One of the first elements they wanted to incorporate were roasted s’mores. None of their family and friends from the UK had ever had them because, believe it or not, they don’t have s’mores in the UK. Real gas fire pits out on the patio were used for these, along with tree stumps for seating hand-carved by the Grouse Mountain lumberjacks.

Sheena and Ben chose a stag head as a running theme within the wedding design to bring in the mountain vista feel they were going for. To really bring this to life, they hung a faux taxidermy stag head over the fireplace in the Timber Room at Grouse Mountain. It was truly the perfect touch for the space.

To bring in the vintage atmosphere, they rented some beautiful antique furniture, including a settee, two chairs and a coffee table, for around the fireplace. They had a photo album of all their adventures together on the coffee table as well for guests to browse through while sitting by the fire.

They also wanted to incorporate an ice sculpture fitting perfectly with their winter theme. To take it one step further, they opted to make it a luge to add something unique to the party. Of course, the ice sculpture was carved into a stag head, and the luge was a party hit.

Their guest favours were pashminas and scarves to keep all their guests warm in the cold winter night, especially when outside on the patio roasting up s’mores.

Their wedding cake was actually made of cheese. They already had so many sweets with the candy buffet and s’mores, they opted for stacked speciality cheeses for their cake instead. Garnished with figs and grapes, and served later in the evening with an assortment of crackers and breads, it was truly a unique touch.

They decided to configure the room with one long dining table for their 40 guests. With crystal-draped candelabras and floral arrangements of burgundy and green as the centrepieces, the table was stunning. Silver charger plates, custom menus and mini jars of M&M’s embellished each place setting, with the pashmina and scarf favours adorning each chair with the guests’ names to mark their seat. White fabric swags draped the ceiling to soften the room, and twinkle lights strung from end to end to make the whole space romantic.

The love and laughter throughout the day is what resonated the most. A beautiful day of beautiful emotions for two beautiful people!

Intimate Spring German Wedding

I drove through the German countryside this past summer and the picture perfect little towns that I saw looked straight out of a magazine, so this destination wedding was a really lovely flashback. Lauren Kinsey photographed this beautifully elegant, intimate wedding, complete with rustic floral crowns, bratwursts and one beaming couple. Indulge in your wanderlust right here.

From Lauren Kinsey Fine Art Wedding Photography… We were so completely honored to be asked to photograph Ben & Annika’s wedding in Germany. Annika is a photographer and graphic designer based out of Atlanta, so every detail of her wedding was beautifully and well planned out. The wedding day was nothing short of magical. Little touches included Annika’s mother hand making all the linen table runners, Annika’s mother-in-law did all the floral design, and Annika even designed her own gown and her invitations herself! Both Ben and Annika are from Germany, and when it came to choosing a wedding location, they decided to marry in their family church with the reception near the art district in Worpswede, which is world famous for its beautiful light, attracting artists from all parts of the world.

The night before the wedding, we celebrated at Ben’s family home with homemade bratwursts prepared by Ben’s father, complete with the traditional plate smashing for good luck at the end of the evening.

Chic and Modern Atlanta Wedding

This modern Atlanta affair takes the black and white combo to new levels of chic. Kate And Campbell wrapped up every pretty detail of this black tie fete with creamy Unique Floral Expressions blooms and one stunning Gabriel’s Desserts cake, while Scobey Photography was behind the scenes snapping up every detail here.

From Scobey Photography… Julie and Anthony’s stunning Atlanta Wedding was full of meaning, joy and bold details. There is something magical about Winter Weddings, and this one was especially magical. Kate and Campbell did a beautiful job incorporating modern black and white stripes with timeless florals and a stunning, iconic Atlanta location. All of these elements made for one amazing celebration!

Rustic Summer Wedding in the South of France

I think I’ve discovered my happy place thanks to these gorgeous photos by Anne-Claire Brun. She captured this rustic, romantic wedding, held at Domaine de Blanche Fleur in the south of France, where Les Mignonneries, the Bride’s own company, shined bright, designing and planning every detail to a tee. From the adorable babe to the colorful streamers, I won’t be leaving here anytime soon.

From Anne-Claire BrunCéline and Jérémie got married at the Domaine de Blanche Fleur in the South of France. I was so happy to get to shoot their wonderful and delicately crafted wedding! The Bride and Groom are the sweetest couple and they are so in love that you can feel it in the air around them!

Céline and Jérémie, it’s a story that starts in Paris. That’s where I met them for the first time, to shoot their maternity session in June 2013. And then again in August 2013 to shoot their newborn baby Romane. So, of course, when they contacted me a third time to shoot their wedding, I was on a cloud. See, when you shoot weddings you kinda get attached to people and it sucks when you never see them again. Working with the same couples, seeing them getting pregnant, with a baby, then married – not necessarily in this order :) – it’s extraordinary.

So I was already happy to shoot their wedding and I wasn’t even there yet.

When I arrived, Céline hugged me and started crying (so did I, what can I say!) She said that seeing me made her realize that this was it, she was going to get married. And all day long, I’ve been overwhelmed. Céline and Jérémie are (overly) sensitive (like me) and the speeches of their families and friends touched me.

But I think that what really struck me was the way those two looked at each other. I’ve seen many couples, but looks like that….

When I made it back to the hotel that night, it must have been around 4am but I needed to write them. Being a photographer, it’s a thousand things all at once: emails that will lead (or not) to booking a date, meetings, first photo shoots, learning how to use a camera or some retouching programs like Photoshop, managing emails, deposits, taxes, creating business (and in two countries I might add!), managing your time, your money (because some years are better than others). And some weddings are also better than others. Not because of the amount of money involved but because of the atmosphere, families, relationships, stories…. And some weddings are simply not “made” for you, we aren’t on the same level as the couple or guests are rude.

Sometimes, making the “dream” happen (= living from your passion) becomes a job. A job from which it’s hard to get away, especially when you work from home. So sometimes, things aren’t all pink: frustrations, wondering if the couple liked their photos (because if they don’t say anything, we, the photographers, panic a little!), not having enough business and comparing yourself with all the other photographers out there, and so it happens that the question pops up: “Why am I doing this?”

When I shot Céline and Jérémie’s wedding, I got my answer.

Their wedding was perfect to me. Their friendships, the kind, funny words of their guests, the stories, the look on everyone’s face, their smiles… All those emotions and moments during the day brought back my desire and passion. The will to work harder, not having weekends, spending all my time on my laptop. The will to give the best of me, to manage better and more important, to capture better days like this. This wedding was all that I love: the venue and settings and decoration, their oh-so-impressive choreography, the (French) meal…. absolutely everything.

The best weddings are those where you feel like a guest, a friend or a family member rather than a vendor. And this wedding was like this. I’m a witness of love and theirs is one of my favorite. I wish them to keep doing whatever they are doing because it seems to be the way to go :)

From the Bride… Jérémie and I met on our workplace and after working for over a year side by side, we fell in love. We haven’t left each other since then.

He had planned to do the proposal at home the evening of our anniversary… but with a 5-months-old girl, it wasn’t easy to organize things discreetly and I felt it coming … so I screwed up! He did it again a week later, roses everywhere in the living room, a candlelight dinner and the ring on the plate instead of dessert!

During the organization of the wedding, Jérémie was serene, me, a little less! But we did see things the same way so that helped. The hardest part was to prepare the dance for the bridal party and our entrance. That took a lot of time but the result was beyond our expectations!

Like many brides and grooms we spent hours on wedding blogs and Pinterest to get inspired and figure out what we wanted. We wanted something pretty simple, rustic, fun and a touch of vintage. The rest of the decoration process was inspired by the venue. It was important to us to respect the soul of Blanche Fleur with soft colors and natural elements. I actually had so much fun with organizing, creating and decorating than I opened my own event company (Les Mignonneries – http://lesmignonneries.com/)!

Our favorite moment of the day was the ceremony itself. It was crazy! Our friends who were in charge of “animating” the ceremony did a fantastic job! It was a rush of intense emotions: love, laughs and tears! We couldn’t have dreamt of a better one!
Oh and also that bridal entrance that took us so long to set up. The dance went really well and everybody was hysterical!
It was definitely one of the happiest days of our lives.

If I had any advice to give, it would be this: do what you want to do but do it together, not just the bride. And don’t hesitate to talk to your bridal party, involve them and ask for their help.

And the most important: have a wedding that is you. Have 1000 details if you like it or get married in jeans if that’s who you are!

Black Tie Sonoma Valley Carnival Wedding

What began over a casual glass of wine turned into a lifelong love for this adorable pair. So, when it came time to plan the wedding a vineyard celebration was an easy decision. The ultimate black tie carnival packed with peanuts, Sweet On Cake concoctionsferris wheel rides, and cotton candy! Along with a gallery full of goodies, the fun has just begun from Jessica Burke. More up NEXT!

From the beautiful Bride…Bryce and I met at a wine bar and love all things wine, so with my family in the Bay Area, it made perfect sense to get married in wine country. Plus, between our respective colleges, grad schools, and jobs, we had family and friends attending from all over the US and thought that if we were going to make everyone travel, we might as well give them a great destination!

Before getting engaged, I had not spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of wedding I wanted. I probably toured over 20 venues, from castles, to farms, to resorts. While we visited many beautiful properties in the Sonoma area, I fell in love with the big oak tree at Kunde under which we ultimately got married with my childhood Rabbi officiating.

With a beautiful vineyard setting as our backdrop, we wanted to let the landscape speak for itself, so we chose soft, neutral colors like champagne and blush, and natural wood elements that wouldn’t distract from the view.

Being goofy people who don’t like to take things too seriously, we knew we wanted a fun wedding that would let our personalities show, but that would still be elegant and timeless. I am not a big sweets person, but I absolutely love cotton candy. I jokingly said to Bryce that we should have a Ferris wheel and before we knew it, a theme was born: black tie carnival. (Bet you never thought you’d hear those words in the same sentence!) Once we had a theme it was easier to decide what did and didn’t fit into our vision. We had bocce and lawn bowling at cocktail hour, late night popcorn, a crate of peanuts holding our escort cards, and, of course, cotton candy. Rather than having a big, tiered cake, my mom and I spent months collecting cake stands to show off the amazing concoctions from Sweet on Cake.

When we sat down to make our list of wedding priorities, food and fun were at the top for both of us. We were lucky to be introduced to Jessica Lasky Catering who created a perfect late summer menu of fresh and local ingredients to delight our 140 guests. (People still tell us it was some of the best food they’ve ever eaten!) As for fun, All Star Jukebox kept everyone on the dance floor all night.

Our wedding day was so full of love and joy (although it went by in a blur!) and we are incredibly thankful to Jessica Burke Photography and Reel Eyes Media for capturing it so beautifully so that we can cherish those memories forever.

Elegant Fall Wedding at The Garrison

This bride’s bouquet is the number one reason why I will forever pine over fall weddings. The beautiful burgundies and creams against nature’s fall foliage is a color combination that never gets old. Splendid Stems worked magic with these gorgeous bouquets and Carmen Santorelli captured it all. For anyone unsure of what season to say their “I do’s,” I’m pretty sure these pics will help you make that decision.

From The Bride… When Matt and I started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted something classic with a touch of whimsy. Some of the inspiration came from Style Me Pretty, of course. Once we settled on the venue, my main goal was to keep it simple, seasonal, and let the vendors do what they do best. After I aligned the perfect team, the rest fell into place. On our wedding day it rained all morning, but we truly embraced every aspect of our celebration. I didn’t hesitate to pack an umbrella and my rain boots to add some charm to our portraits, and the rain stopped just on time to enjoy an outdoor ceremony and the most beautiful view on a fall day.

Arizona Desert Chic Spring Wedding

I can’t say I’ve ever dreamed of a desert-set wedding, but one look at this Scottsdale stunner from Jasmine Star and I instantly changed my tune. It’s a day where cactus mingles with delicate white florals and “rustic chic” is reinvented with an industrial-style spin. Pop to the gallery and don’t dare miss the film below from Serendipity Cinematography.

[iframe //player.vimeo.com/video/92876446 600 338]

From Jasmine StarColleen and Mark wanted an intimate destination wedding and chose the perfect location in the gorgeous Pinnacle Peak Mountains of Arizona. The reception was held at the Proof restaurant at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale, Colleen wanted something fun & modern but comfortable with the southwest twist. This antique industrial decorated restaurant already went perfectly witch what Colleen was looking for, all she had to do was add her own personal elegant style. Colleen and Mark recited their vows under a large tree with hanging antique light bulbs to add to the vintage atmosphere. At the end of the ceremony was a mix of antique and desert inspiration. Rustic & elegant wood boxes with the white floral were wrapped in burlap with touches of succulents for the desert look. The antique look was shown through vintage lanterns.

Colleen & Mark had hints of white floral that added a sophisticated charm to their Wedding. The ceremony had simple but clean floral at each end of the row with tulips hanging in mason jars. At the end of the aisle were large wood boxes filled with white flowers and touches of succulents inspired by the Arizona desert. Colleen’s gorgeous white bouquet was a mix of garden roses, tulips, ranunculus with a burlap ribbon and a touch of lace to add in a rustic appearance. The intimate reception had antique wood boxes with floral including hydrangea, ranunculus and touches of pussy willow. There were some single flower vintage vases with tulips dispersed across the reception. A country band that gave the reception the cherry on top of the sundae for her southwest vision wedding kicked off the party. My absolute favorite part of this whole night was that it was ended with Colleen & Mark dancing alone soaking in every moment of their special day.

Not surprisingly, the couple’s new home has retained much of their enviable signature style – a mix of Asian-inspired elements, modern art and Legend’s baby grand piano. Don Stewart, the couple’s designer has paired warm wood finishes with gorgeous metallic stools in the kitchen and turned the dining room wall into its own piece of art. The end result is a home that is very New York – a jewel box abode perfect for this very stylish couple.

Elegant Outdoor Lake Como Wedding

I’d give just about anything to abandon this brutal winter and whisk away to the shores of Lake Como, but this gallery from Marcus Bell of Studio Impressions Photography is probably the next best thing. He beautifully told the story of this destination “I do,” and if this image doesn’t instantly give you the Italian travel bug, I don’t know what will.

From The Bride… We met as starry-eyed finance graduates in our first “real job”. It didn’t take long before we were spending every spare moment as friends, and then evolved to something more. When we’re together, we’re always laughing with (and at) each other. We’re each other’s rock and partners in crime in every sense and we back each other up. We’ve changed a lot since when we first met, and whilst some changes were hard, we feel stronger for having evolved together and supporting each other through it.

When Jehan and I got engaged, we wanted a venue that had dramatic views, nature, water and somewhere our well-traveled friends and family had not been before. Jehan suggested Lake Como as he knew it’d been a dream of mine to go, and when we saw the first Google image of Villa Balbianello our jaws literally dropped and we knew we had found our place! With a destination wedding in mind, we had our hearts set on planning a week long amazing vacation with all of our nearest and dearest.

Living in New York and being away from our friends and family in Sydney, we were determined to maximize our time with our guests and make sure everyone felt spoilt!

Waiting for our guests in their rooms were handmade welcome bags with a personalized welcome note, local goodies and an events list detailing the fun to come for the week – Welcome Drinks at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo’s glam lakeside pool bar, separate on-the-lake bucks and hens, rehearsal dinner at a restaurant nestled high up on the hills complete with panoramic views, and a day-after pool party pizza brunch to aid in recovery. We also slipped in a custom designed map of Lake Como, a cheat sheet of must visit restaurants and activities, as well as a directory so guests could easily connect with one another.

Following the outdoor ceremony under the vine covered loggia, an acoustic guitar duo serenaded the guests as they enjoyed a selection of cocktails accompanied by Italian and modern canapés.

The overall aesthetic of our wedding day was modern chic with pops of glam. Lush Italian branches and small pared back arrangements of white flowers and candles gave the reception dinner an intimate feel and a luxurious touch without taking away from the already beautiful venue and surrounding landscape. We DYIed the save the dates, wedding invitations, the menus/ ceremony coasters, guest book forms, escort cards, after party lights, L&J marquee lights, buon appetito greenery letters and the welcome bags.

Guests were ready to party as they got off the boat at Grand Hotel Tremezzo where we had transformed a cave wine bar into our secret speakeasy-themed after-party. Rachel and the team from the Lake Como Wedding Planner did a great job in transforming the space with all the lighting elements we had DIYed and brought with us, including the L & J marquee letters we’d made to set the scene. The party ready guests, amazing cocktails and DJ did the rest!

Our favourite moments from the week would have to be the personalised vows we read to each other at the ceremony, the photo shoot on a Lucia boat (an ingenious idea by Marcus, our photographer!!), and our first dance, which we had secretly choreographed and practiced for weeks and never thought we could pull off!! But surprisingly, like so many other parts of the week, surrounded by our nearest and dearest, it felt natural and completely fun!

We are real DIYers at heart and our wedding was a true labour of love. We had the best time scheming on how to execute a particularly tricky idea or when beavering away together on our projects. We still feel giddy and extremely lucky to have executed our wedding in such spectacular fashion. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank our beloved family and friends who created the unique energy of the week, and our amazing vendors who made it all possible. In particular, the ladies at the Lake Como Wedding Planner and Marcus Bell our photographer who helped create and document our adventure with his breathtaking images to remind ourselves every day that it wasn’t all a dream!

We can clearly see all the depth and emotions captured from the day and we felt like it accurately captured who we are as a couple by the unique and innovative talents of Marcus Bell – the Lucia boat photos are inspired, and we feel so incredibly blessed with all the timeless mementos we now have of the wedding week, including the incredible day after photos!

A few words of advice: embrace the planning, and try to have fun with it! If you approach it as a chore, chances are it will feel like a chore and where’s the joy in that? Try to add your own twist to things, even with some DIY projects and personal touches to reflect both your styles. Remember what the day is meant to be about! The union of the two individuals as a couple. When making decisions during planning, whilst other opinions can be sought and taken into account, respect each other’s desires above all.

Southern Style Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

When Kayla Coleman Photography and Pretty In The Details set out to craft this boho shoot, they aimed to fill it with a dreamy, eclectic and timeless feel. But most importantly, they set their stunning couple at the center of it all—and in my opinion, that’s the recipe for pretty that every wedding deserves. Goodies from Paisley & Jade are sprinkled about and paired perfectly with the varied hues. See it all here!

Bohemian

From Pretty In The DetailsMy inspiration for our bohemian dream shoot started with three descriptive words; dreamy, timeless, and eclectic. For each detail created and hand-picked, we made sure they held the esthetic of those words. The muted color pallet of the dresses, to the florals and rentals, nothing matched, but everything was picked individually and purposely. with a mismatched feel, we stuck to color families rather than specific colors to use for our design. Partnering with vendors who have a similar esthetic was huge for this shoot to go off successfully. my goal was to inspire brides planning on any budget. Being a wedding designer, I tend to focus on all the details, but I really wanted the details to accent the couple, resembling a real wedding. The couple should never be overlooked because of beautiful decor. Rather, the design should compliment them and who they are, always being the center of attention. Figure out who you are as a couple, and let your wedding shine with personality!! Don’t be afraid to do something others haven’t done yet, that’s the beauty of being you! And let’s be real, this is YOUR day!

High Fashion Russian Wedding

I love a bride who can set the style bar high, and believe it or not, this particular beauty based her entire wedding design off a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show. Bursting with avant garde details and one amaaazing custom gown, I guarantee this wedding photographed by Lena Kozhina will go down as a day to remember.

From The Bride… Our story began four years ago. We lived in different cities, and didn’t know that our lives would change soon. One day Pavel saw Inna’s photo on the Internet and decided to find her by any means. He found her in St. Petersburg city, where, under the pretext of casting, he met her in a modeling agency.

More than six months passed before Paul decided to make the first step, and all this time I didn’t even know. Over time, he offered to move in Moscow. Moscow became the beginning of a new stage of our relationship, and after a year and a half we got married and had our son Dmitry Pavlovich. When Dmitry Pavlovich had reached the age of 3 months, we went to Petersburg. It was the usual weekend trip for getting away from it all and rest. But one of the evenings I had unexpected surprise – walking along the Griboedov Canal near the Church of the Spilled Blood, Pavel asked to stay for a moment and made me proposal to get married. It was so unexpected and beautiful. I felt delight, little short of shock!

Of course we spent unreal amount of time browsing more than one hundred magazines from all over the world. We listened to endless advice of friends; before we had primary vision of our wedding…it was very difficult to choose the right experts! One by one we set appointments with agencies/photographers/designers and each meeting made me feel stress and anxiety. At the same time I was watching the work of decorators, and found Julia Shakirova. The office of Julia met us with friendly atmosphere. I saw pretty girl with charming smile. Her name was Daria. I started talking and explained her that our wedding is not a standard one. Our wedding would be wedding ceremony and dinner, devoted to this event. I showed her one of the dresses that I liked, it was a dress with classic ivory color, with skirt like foam…I was absolutely in love with the dress from the spring fashion show Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda spring/summer 2014. The collection was luxurious and elegant.

The dress was so beautiful that I just couldn’t think about any other dresses… I knew that the price of it was unrealistic to buy, and it made me sad…At some point my sadness had reached its climax, and I decided that it can be copied and decided to sew it. Julia immediately picked up the idea of spring fashion show Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda, it was obvious that her mind was already painting a picture as it could be. She began to tell about her ideas, how we can make it and how beautiful would it be. I thought we could talk about it endlessly, surely this paved the way for the beginning of our most incredible, the most unpredictable result and risky concept of our celebration.

The second great idea of Julia’s was not just to decorate the room for bride preparation but to decor the bed’s frame with flowers and even to create something like boudoir. So our preparation was in full play…And I, in my turn, found a seamstress for my dress! I had to work hard in order to find the right shade of fabric. We visited several stores, and had to buy flowers from several stores in Moscow and even in China.

Finally, I found the work of Elena Kozhina. She made incredibly sweet photos, with lots of lovely details, the brides in her photos were like angels, and she was able to convey the feelings and the mood. I immediately agreed with her about the meeting and by the end of the meeting we had no doubt that Lena would be our photographer. We we’re so happy to have her capture our day!

Winter Date Night at Home Inspiration

Truth be told, I’m a bit of a home body. Mostly in the winter. So my dream date night usually involves a fire, some wine, and my sweet husband. Well, it only takes one look at the images below from Jordan Brittley to see why I view staying in so highly. Styled by DressPresh, designed by Stellar Staging and Design and with florals from He Loves me Flowers – this gallery is basically my version of the perfect day.

From Jordan Brittley…The oranges were sliced and laid next to the grapefruit. The smell of flowers filled the room as Kim and Jeremy held each other close, soaking up each moment of their lives together. They wrapped themselves in a blanket and fed each other fruit kabobs. They even made delicious parfaits and they played cards. Even though Kim doesn’t like cards all that much.

The inspiration for the shoot was simplicity. There is so much beautiful in simplicity when simplicity overtakes perfection. We wanted to show couples that date nights at home on Valentine’s Day (or any day) are beautiful. You don’t have to wait until everything is perfect to start enjoying life. And you most certainly don’t have to wait until everything is perfect to love each other well!

From DressPreshI love the simplicity of couples staying home on a date night to really enjoy being together without all the bells and whistles. Kim has great style, and I wanted what we put together to be something they would really wear around the house that was purposeful and cute but still comfortable. They may be having a date night at home, but who says you can’t still dress up a little for each other?

Kim had the sweetest little pendant from Jeremy’s aunt. I love that we could incorporate something with personal meaning to her into the shoot. It gives it so much heart and purpose!

I LOVE mixing textures and neutrals together. Cream and white are definitely a wardrobe-do. We went for print with Jeremy to really add that pop of print to the couple. And what guy doesn’t totally rock a plaid?

Whimsical Autumn Wedding at Murrieta’s Well

Since I’m wearing a yellow bridesmaid dress this summer, I’m starting to pay special attention to this hue, and this whimsical wedding stood out from the crowd. Full of personal DIY touches and bright florals by Laura Miller, I’ve only just begun soaking up this sunshine-filled beauty. Jasmine Lee worked her magic behind the lens and you can see every colorful moment right here.

From The Bride… When it came down to planning our wedding, amidst the chaos and excitement, the most important thing was that this wedding represent the personalities of me and my husband. In knowing we were having a small, 70 guest wedding at a vintage winery, I wanted to ensure our guests (close family and friends) felt like they were at OUR wedding. The theme of our wedding was whimsical, vintage love and we made sure to feature little details to express ourselves on the best day of our lives. I found that with a little patience and with the help of Etsy, Yelp and some amazing vendors, you really can have everything personalized to be exactly what you want on your big day!

When it came down to floral arrangements and table decor, we worked with the amazingly talented, Laura Miller, from Oakland. Laura created some of the most beautiful and unique floral arrangements we had ever seen and was excited to collaborate and lead the way on fun DIY projects! To tell the vintage love story, we used arrows as our wedding symbol – they showed up on everything from the invitations, to the bridesmaids’ necklaces, to the place settings on the table. And yes, you guessed it, those place setting arrows were the DIY child of my and Laura’s dreams. We wrapped different colors of embroidery thread around 70 (plus a few for good measure) wooden dowels, added feathers and painted the tips rose gold. They were beautiful and are sitting in my living room to this day! I worked with several Etsy vendors as well, however, one in particular really stole the spotlight. I collaborated with Etsy designer, Arrow and Ink Designs (perfect name for our theme – complete coincidence!) on the design and layout of our invitations, response cards and ceremony programs. Daily email communication took place with this helpful vendor and the end product was unique, custom wedding stationery that illustrated us… literally! Those silhouettes you see on our invitations are actually custom drawings of us!

Our wedding rings and the necklace I wore, were custom designed by an amazing local East Bay jewelry designer. We repurposed a ring that belonged to my Great-Grandma (who I am named after) for the diamonds and gold for my ring and necklace, and my Grandpa’s wedding band for part of my husband’s ring. Having something that belonged to my family and repurposed in such a special way made our wedding rings that much more meaningful. Everyday, I get to look down at my wedding ring and think of not only my amazing husband, but of my Great-Grandma and family history. We also added some personal touches to our ceremony, such as writing and reciting our own vows and walking down the aisle to Arcade Fire and Beach House. Lastly, one of the most memorable parts of our reception was a video that my Dad created for us. In ten minutes, he was able to tell the story of our lives, from birth through college, to the day we met and through present day. I get chills when I picture showing this video to our Grandchildren someday.

All in all, the planning process was made easy with help from supportive vendors who genuinely cared about us and our wedding day was filled with love, happiness and fun. And that’s all you can ask for!

How to Care for Your Engagement Ring

Whether you’re a proud owner of some shiny new left-hand bling (yay!) or you’ve been sporting your gem for months or even years, you’re going to want to tuck this info-packed feature away for safe keeping. From insuring to sizing, cleaning and everything in between, custom designer Josh Levkoff is sharing everything you need to know about keeping your ring in tip-top shape.

From Josh Levkoff Private JewelerYour engagement ring is a symbol of true love, enduring yet delicate. It is important that this precious symbol is treated in the same manner you would the person who gave it to you. Your ring should be loved, cherished, coveted, and most importantly cared for in such a way to ensure an everlasting relationship.

What exactly is the best way to care for your ring responsibly? We are going to break it down and give you our inside scoop of the do’s and definitely do not’s of caring for your jewelry with our seven tips below…

1. Get your ring insured. First and foremost take that appraisal and get your ring insured, get your ring insured, GET YOUR RING INSURED. Don’t think it can’t happen to you because frankly it can! Despite what people think, a diamond can be damaged. Not to mention: stolen, lost, misplaced, and a long list of other unfortunate situations. GET YOUR RING INSURED!

2. Make sure it’s the correct size. Knowing and maintaining the correct ring size is very important to keeping your ring in good condition. If your ring is not sized correctly it is not good it. If it’s too big your ring can slide off your finger and get banged easily. If your ring is too small it can alter the construction of the jewelry by yanking too hard for it to come off and also cause circulation issues and other medical conditions.

3. It’s OK to take off your ring. Many people are wrong in thinking that your ring is to be worn at all times. A delicate piece of jewelry is not made to never come off. Many people think that their ring is indestructible. That they can go anywhere with it, do anything with it, carry out normal activities with it. Boy, are they wrong! Your ring is a precious work of art, so it needs to be treated like one! At Josh Levkoff Jewelry we often have to act as diamond doctors by helping to repair jewelry from accidents caused by activities that should not have been done while wearing your ring. Don’t play sports or go the gym with your ring. Don’t go swimming with your ring as your fingers shrink in cold water and the ring could slip off easily, don’t do yardwork in the ring. Don’t sleep in your ring, it can get tangled and pulled on the sheets, clothes, etc. Ever hear the expression “when in doubt do with out”? Same goes for your ring. When in doubt, it’s safer to leave your bling at home.

4. Know how to take your ring off. Now that we know it’s okay to take the ring off. It’s important you learn know how to take it off correctly. If you take off your ring in a manner that is not optimal you can risk causing damage to your piece of jewelry. Most common damage we have seen by people who carelessly take off their rings is ruining the construction or misshaping the ring or loosening, popping or losing stones. It is best to not rush the ring off but to take a diligent 7-10 seconds (even if that seems drastic) to carefully remove the ring. Always, take the ring off by the shank of the band and NOT the center diamond itself.

5. Don’t ignore your hands. While, before it may not have mattered what your fingers were doing now they are the home to a precious work of art and it is important to be more aware with what you are doing with your ring. Be aware of your movements. Many people are fidgeters, we tap pens, feet, and even rings! Many clients don’t even realize they are making the same motions in the way they type or do house work where they are banging their ring and causing damage to the prongs of the ring and eating away at the metal causing structural issues over time.

6. Store your jewelry properly. Don’t leave your piece of jewelry just laying around the house. Would you do that with $10,000 in cash, with a piece of art? NO, you would secure them and protect them and make sure they are well hidden and cared for and as safe as possible. Knowing how to travel with your jewelry is also very important. Travel with a jewelry case and in some cases depending where you are going, its ok to either (a) leave the ring at home for a few days or (b) have a back up “costume travel ring”.

7. Let the pros do what they do best. Too many clients we see try to clean their rings on their own and end up damaging the ring more then helping. There are many tools and tips out there you can read about, but when in doubt and to be on the safe side and to get the most out of your ring, bring it to us, the Pros and let us professionally Polish, Clean, Steam your ring. Schedule timely maintenance check ups (prong re-tightening, checking for loose stones, polishing,etc..), don’t just wait until something happens to bring it in. There are people who say use toothbrushes, jewelry cleaners, various other liquid combinations, etc.. The best tool is hot steam. Hot steam is what gets all of the hand lotion, cream, dirt, grease out of your ring. So women if you want to have that special ring, sparkle and bling that much more, then buy your man a Cappuccino machine and you can reap the benefits of the Hot Steam to clean your Ring while he sips his cappuccino.

Yes your ring is meant to be worn and loved and cherished and not meant to be sitting in a glass case where you should never take it out, but just know how to care for it, when to care for it, and if something does happen to it, it’s OK fellas don’t worry, bring it to us and we will take care of it!
