DIY Kate Spade-Inspired Desk Accessories

This DIY is for all of you who pass by the gold stapler while shopping, pick it up and then put it back every. single. time. Because a pretty desk is important to you, but you just can’t fathom spending 75 bucks on a few desk accessories. Me? I’m that person. So when our very own Abby Larson whipped up these chic pieces for half the price (in under 30 minutes!) all of my desk accessory dreams came true.

Materials

Acrylic Stapler
Acrylic Tape Dispenser
Acrylic Pencil Holder
Acrylic Gold Paint
Small Paint Brush
Washi Tape or Painters Tape

instructions

step-1

Mask off the edges of your acrylic stapler (like so) and the serrated edge of your acrylic tape dispenser with washi tape or thin painters tape.

step-2

Use your acrylic gold paint to paint the tops, sides and metal hardware on your stapler and tape dispenser.

step-3

Paint the bottom of your acrylic pencil holder with the gold paint and voila! Pop in some pretty pencils and patterned washi tape and you have a chic new set of desk accessories.

Elegant + Traditional Scottish Wedding in Colorado

I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland, and Maria and Craig’s inspired affair has given me every reason to book my plane ticket ASAP. For this gallery is the type of pretty that goes straight to your head. An elegant Scottish affair set in Colorado complete with custom kilts (made from the Groom’s family tartan) and a bagpiper, and Connie Whitlock Photography captured it all in THE VAULT!

From Connie Whitlock PhotographyThis wedding was just so special – the bride, Maria, works for a large wedding rental company here in Denver, so you can image their details were amazing! Craig, the groom, hails from Scotland – and they incorporated lots of Scottish details into their design. A lot of their guests also traveled from the UK to attend, and brought some Scottish traditions to Colorado! From the kilts, to the bagpiper, to the beautiful hats the women wore to the ceremony. The Country Club at Castle Pines sits high up on the hillside so the landscape views were stunning and expansive. The guests enjoyed looking out over the foothills during the ceremony, cocktail hour, and the reception. The navy hues paired with ivory and gold accents popped against the backdrop and kept the wedding classic and timeless.

From the Bride… Craig and I have made CO our new home for the past 3 years, and knew we wanted to share what this beautiful state has to offer. We wanted our families from the east coast and UK to join together under one roof for our “Tuscan meets Colorado” themed wedding. Craig was born in Scotland and raised in England, so we knew we wanted to incorporate his Scottish roots. We had touches of the Scottish flower, a thistle, in our floral arrangements. Craig’s custom kilt was made of his family tartan, Earl of St. Andrews. I was gifted with a family heirloom.. A bracelet that dates back to 1925. The sapphires matched perfectly with our navy and gold color scheme. We were sure to please the taste buds for our guests, so we offered a late night snack of fish and chips & the jersey shore’s finest, caramel popcorn, fudge and salt water taffy. Our wedding day could not have been more beautiful. We had a perfect Colorado sunset behind the Rocky Mountains with our closest family and friends from our the world.

Romantic Southern California Seaside Proposal

Ladies and gentlemen, take note—if you want a truly special proposal, make sure you have a photographer on hand to document the moment. And if you can get a photographer like Valentina Glidden (who also happens to be the Groom-to-be’s sister-in-law), the photos are guaranteed to be as special as the moment. See the proof in THE VAULT!

From Valentina Glidden PhotographyI had the privilege of capturing my brother-in-law’s proposal to his beautiful future wife, Maria. He wanted it to be a beautiful place, preferably by the ocean and this gorgeous location in Palos Verdes was a winner. We anxiously arrived to scout the location and then hid while he took her on a drive. He casually stopped by the chosen spot and walked her down towards the ocean – she had absolutely no idea what was coming. We hid on top of the hill while he got down on one knee and asked her to be his forever. It was such a sweet and emotional moment, not only because proposals tend to be that way, but because I was capturing the moment I would be one step closer to having a new sister!

Rustic Chic Vashon Island Wedding in Washington

See these centerpieces? Well, would you believe me if I told you that Leah and Brian actually unearthed those vessels from the very ground where they were married days before? AH-MAZING. Even more awesome, the fact that this pair made their day truly unique. From their ring-warming ceremony, to the hand drawn wedding logo, every detail was their own and we’re absolutely smitten with it all. See their special day in its entirety captured by the uber talented Jonas Seaman Photography in THE VAULT!

Colors
Styles
Bohemian

From Jonas Seaman PhotographyThis was such a beautiful day. Leah & Brian got married at Triple Brook Farms on Vashon Island. They had so many beautiful personal details throughout the day including vintage bottles on the tables unearthed from a family property, their own hand drawn wedding logo, and little bags of coffee beans roasted fresh by Leah’s Dad as wedding favors.

From the Bride…Brian’s family owns land on the south end of Vashon Island, and we spent a day digging up antique bottles and jars that had been buried on their property decades earlier. We used them in our centerpieces to hold flowers and lights, and it was a nice nod to the history of the island as well as looking really cute, and costing nothing.

We included a ring-warming, since we wanted the ceremony to be about more than just the two of us, and involve our guests as well. We wanted to honor the fact that everyone there had shaped our lives in some way, and had helped us to become those two people who were standing up at the front, about to get married to each other.

Trust your instincts, and hire professionals whenever possible. Having people show up and just get busy making things happen without having to ask a ton of questions or need to be told what to do was such a relief after doing so much of the heavy lifting ourselves.  Nothing will be as bad as you think it will be. It was the best day! It took a ton of effort and planning to get there, but I can’t think of anything that could have made it better.

Floral-Filled Texas Summer Wedding

Texas weddings have kinda captured my heart lately and after seeing this beautiful bash captured by Julie Paisley, the love affair isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. With the talented Something To Celebrate leading the charges and The Flower Girl providing some seriously gorgeous florals, it was a wedding to remember – and to fill your Pinterest boards with. See it all in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… We met in midtown Houston, TX at the Dogwood bar, while I was in town visiting friends. I didn’t know it yet, but my father had passed away that same day. January 31, 2014. Looking back I think he pushed me towards Nick that night. Nick later gifted me with a bracelet engraved with the coordinates of where we met. Just shows how sweet of guy he is!
He also surprised me with the engagement. We had planned a trip to Disney World and my friends told me for months that was definitely when he was going to propose, so it wasn’t really on my radar. Then one day about a month before our trip he said he just wanted to go look for fun. While inside Robbins Brothers – The Engagement Ring Store in Houston (Galleria Area) he told me to pick one just like in Sweet Home Alabama!! I was so excited when I found the perfect ring! August 1, 2014.

Being a part of the wedding industry can be both a blessing and a curse when you are planning your wedding. I had help from great friends who really helped me refine my vision; even though it changed multiple times. Overall I knew I wanted it to be a traditional Texas wedding but still feel formal. I love pastel colors, especially purple, and wanted the day to be filled with flowers. So my friends Cari (our designer) and Kari (our florist) helped me come up with a vision that was everything I could imagine and more. Thankfully the venue has a great Texas ease about it; which my very laid back groom appreciated and helped tone down the formality of it all.

It was important to me to personalize our wedding. My father passed away the day Nick and I met, so we created a memory table for him that included a yellow rose boutonniere along with his cowboy hat, a photo of him and a matching photo of me. My mother-in-law also sewed the heart of one of his blue shirts near the heart of my gown. She also gave me a sterling silver pendant that my husband had given her before he was deployed with his monogram on it for “something borrowed” to tie onto my bouquet. I attached a charm with my father’s photo, as well as the lace from my mother’s wedding gown on to my bouquet. The groom’s cake was the University of Iowa stadium, where my husband went to college. The bartenders served personalized beer that was custom made and named for the event.

Our day was perfect and I’m so thankful for the images to relive the day over and over again.

From Julie Paisley… Aaryn and Nick were a breath of fresh air. It is so important for me to connect with my clients and this was so easy with the two of them. Aaryn and I shared many texts during the process and I loved how she shared all her ideas about her big day. Details were so important to her but at the same time she wanted the wedding to be down to earth and FUN and that it was. I loved being their photographer, they have a beautiful love story and clearly adore each other.

Elegant Autumn Virginia Vineyard Wedding

There’s so much beauty in this Virginia vineyard wedding, that it seems unfair to have to sum it up in a few short sentences. Drawing inspiration from vineyard setting, the couple envisioned a day with loose, lush flowers and lots of greenery in a rich palette of bordeaux, blush and gold and full of special touches including “his” and “hers” bars, vintage velvet sofas from Paisley And Jade and a Top Gun serenade! See all the special details from Rachel May and East West in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…One of the very first decisions my husband, Jim, and I made after getting engaged was the time of year we wanted to get married. We both enjoy the colder months of the year and I find something so romantic about winter time. We thought we wanted to have a winter wedding and then went to visit different venues, specifically for that time of year. Keswick Vineyards was the second venue we visited in Charlottesville, Virginia, and we instantly fell in love. The lush vines and gardens, breathtaking estate, and beautifully tented reception venue was far more than we expected and we knew in that moment that we wanted to get married there. We met with Keswick’s event staff to look at available dates and she asked what months we were looking to get married. Before I could tell her the winter months, she said that Fall weddings at Keswick fill up years in advance but they had one weekend date left and it happened to be the exact date that we were there visiting. I took another look outside and saw the panoramic beauty of Keswick and said, “We’ll take it!” My husband couldn’t have agreed more, it was so beautiful that you simply couldn’t say no. We chose our date and started planning a Fall wedding from that moment on.

After seeing the beauty of Keswick, I wanted to use the colors that we saw at the vineyard so we chose a bordeaux, blush, and gold color palette. My style vision remained the same from day one, loose, lush flowers with lots of greenery to bring in the natural beauty of the surroundings. We also wanted our guests to feel special so we had champagne to greet our guests, a string quartet, beautiful velvet vintage sofas and chairs, lots of family pictures, greenery and flowers. Inside the tent we had a settee for Jim and I, and farm tables with an amazing runner with lots of greenery and candles. Finally, we wanted dramatic lighting and chose to use pin lights to showcase the amazing centerpieces.

One unique element to our wedding that my husband and I knew we wanted from beginning was separate “his” and “her” bars. We not only had separate signature cocktails but we wanted to show our originality and share our favorite drinks with our guests but Jim and I simply have different tastes in cocktails. Jim loves craft beers – his bar was stocked with local Charlottesville craft beers and was decorated in a rustic theme with custom napkins, a wine barrel, and aluminum accents. I love champagne – my bar hosted different champagne cocktails and liquors and was styled in a modern, glamorous way with oversized balloons, gold polka dots, and a champagne tower. Our guests were able to enjoy both bars and the options we could provide were endless!

Other than marrying my best friend, I have to say that I have two favorite moments from our wedding; both of which were complete surprises. The first was my father-daughter dance. My father passed away when I was young so I knew from an early age that this dance was going to be incredibly special for our family and, while I knew that my dad would be right there with me during my wedding day, I wanted to do something special for him during my father-daughter dance. I’m fortunate enough to have the most amazing step-father and we planned a dance where I would start dancing with my brother, who happens to be the spitting image of my dad. On wedding day it went flawlessly, my brother and I danced and laughed and then my step-father cut in at the most perfect time. It was such a special moment to share with them and I was so happy to have honored my dad in the way we did. What I didn’t know at the time is that my mother leaned into my, normally shy, paternal grandfather and said, “Do you want to go dance with your granddaughter in honor of your son?” Without hesitation, he hopped up and cut right in. My stepfather happily took a step aside and my grandfather and I danced and laughed and at the end of our dance, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. My other favorite moment – and all Top Gun fans or fiancés of Top Gun fans will appreciate this – is when my husband rallied the gentlemen at our wedding reception and sang “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” to me in a complete surprise. One of our Best Men pulled me aside and was asking some questions that I politely questioned if these could wait until Monday and by the time he said ‘ok,’ I turned around and there were about 30 guys reenacting the Top Gun scene with my husband down on one knee and my face in complete surprise. My father-in-law is a retired Navy Captain and my husband’s family and friends have served in all the branches of the Armed Forces so to see them all singing to me was such a sweet and special moment that I will truly cherish forever.

Our flowers followed our overall style of loose, lush, and flowy. I had the absolute best floral designer who created the most beautiful bouquets I’ve ever seen. We discussed using different types of greenery and berries, I just knew that I didn’t want a traditional floral bouquet and I couldn’t have been more amazed with what she created. My bouquet was exactly what I envisioned and the best part was she placed a single white rose in the middle of it, so I could carry my dad down the aisle with me. She also created greenery runners that honestly took your breath away. I had a blurred vision of what I was looking for and I was so amazed when she made it come to life. I would have to say that wedding dress shopping was actually one of the easier tasks of the wedding planning process. My mom and I set up a day to visit dress shops near Washington D.C., and one of the stores happen to have the Modern Trousseau trunk show and the designer there. I tried on a few Modern Trousseau dresses and knew this was the perfect designer for my body type. I was in the dressing room when one of the sales assistants put “my dress” in my room and I have to say, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I tried it on, came out of the dressing room, and everyone stared speechlessly. Oddly enough, and before the tears, there’s a moment of “this is right” that comes over you. It’s a very calm feeling and my mom and I both felt that this was the one. The designer came over, told me more about the dress, pulled out a custom veil and we were sold. It was the absolute perfect dress for me and fit our vision beautifully. We had just a slight wind on our wedding day and let me tell you – that dress was made for wind. My favorite feature of the dress, or my overall look for the day, was the fact that I wore my mom’s earrings from when she got married and I also wore my great-grandmother’s wedding ring which has been passed down through the women in our family. I am incredibly fortunate to have a mother than owns a bakery so when it came to wedding cakes, I didn’t plan anything and let her have full control. She knew she wanted to ‘wow’ everyone and that our guests would be expecting something different so she came up with an idea that impressed everyone and that I still hear about today. She decided to not only make a wedding cake for my husband and I to cut and save, but also made individual miniature wedding cakes for each of our guests. She made five different flavors and once the cake was cut, the wait staff came out with trays of all these wedding cakes that were decorated differently and each guest could choose their own flavor. On top of that, we had custom cookies and macarons for our guests and we had a donut truck come and make hot fresh donuts on site as a late night treat!

One piece of advice that I would give brides-to-be would be is to take a step back and remember why you’re getting married! It’s so easy in the planning process to lose sight of two families coming together and the fact that you’re marrying your best friend and soulmate. Plan a date night every week, or other week, and take your sweet fiancé out to dinner for tagging along with the wedding planning process and don’t talk about the wedding at all. Talk about what you love about each other, your future together, and spend this time staying connected to each other and not losing sight of why you’re planning this wedding in the first place. ENJOY the process! It’s the best time of your life, yes, it’s stressful in every way, but every single ounce of stress is worth it when you see your sweetie standing up there waiting for you!

Ethereal Bali Engagement Session

With breezy gowns, bohemian and romantic flower crowns and bouquets, a naturally gorgeous setting and perfect, soft lighting captured by the incredibly talented Angga Permana Photo, this Bali engagement session is truly a thing of beauty. And, so are the Bride- and Groom-to-be at the center of it. See (and pin!) each lovely detail in THE VAULT!

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/H1KgjMf18u8 600 338]

From Angga Permana PhotoThey say,“Opposites attract.” It is as cliché as it gets, but it rings true throughout the 11-year-long journey of Erwin and Airin. He is a sanguine-choleric, a character that suits his day job as a passionate entrepreneur. She, on the other hand, is a melancholic who is very particular about small details, and is an eager learner.

He knows all too well that she appreciates gestures – small and big – and thus makes sure that she is always showered with sweet surprises. Back when they were still school kids, he was always there to send her to school and fetch her after class. When he started making his own fortune, he made sure every special day was memorable for her. From puppies on her birthdays to the latest iPhone models every Christmas, he goes the extra mile when it comes to pleasing her.

She is the yin to his yang. Being an ambitious entrepreneur that he is, sometimes his business takes over his life. She would be the one to remind him that there’s more to life than late nights behind the desk and numbers in the bank account. She makes him feel alive.

He is the big picture person in the relationship. When lovers’ quarrel happens, he would be the gentleman who isn’t afraid to apologize first. Deep inside, he has always known that she’s the one for him and that she’s too precious to lose over a silly argument.

She loves the man that he is. Tough times have shown his relentless effort in building a business he started from scratch. His success is not just for himself, but also his beloved family. He is never ashamed of his humble beginning, and that’s when she knows he’s the man she would want to hold dearly for life.

She dreams big, and that’s a quality that he loves about her. Her wanderlust soul has given her a worldly view in life. She aims to start a global venture that would help others in different parts of the world. To share the blessing and the happiness they have – that’s a vision they will share for life.

Coastal Winter White Wedding Inspiration

You know that whole “no white after Labor Day” rule? Quite frankly, I beg to differ. Because when Sally PineraKelly Oshiro and Poppy Design Co display just how chic winter whites can be…well, you become a believer. Head to The Vault and see why we can’t get enough.

From Sally PineraThe coast doesn’t have to be reserved for the summer only. We were inspired to create this cozy winter coastal inspiration for brides to take natural elements and to utilize the environment around them, no matter what the season is! Our bride had softly tousled hair and a fuzzy cream sweater to keep her warm. To compliment her, our groom wore a refreshing white tuxedo jacket to pair. Beautiful details of capiz shells, vines, multi layered gauze and natural linen tables were adorn with amazing The Ark pieces.

Wedding Photographer Says “I do” in New York City

What you are about to witness (albeit, virtually) is classy NYC affair, complete with bowties and lace, with modern touches to boot (hello, lucite seating!). But my takeaway? Is that uber-stunning photographer-turned-Bride who steals the show in her Pronovias number. Captured by Katie Kett, if you adore that city-kind-of-lovin’ then THE VAULT gallery is where you’ll want to spend your morning.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/146514943 600 338]

From The Bride…I have been capturing wedding stories for 7 years and this past September it was my turn to be the bride. My husband JR proposed in Central Park in July 2014 and we took 14 months to plan our big day. We knew two things when we started our planning process, we wanted our wedding to feel like Manhattan, the wonderful city where we live and fell in love, and that we would need the best photographer to tell our story for us. When we found our venue we knew right away it was what we were searching for. It was a public atrium and walk way during the day and is gated at 7pm. The ceiling is a 4 story high arch of glass and is open air on either end. It runs the length of a city block and gave us the ability to create the look we wanted. The food is catered by the delicious Italian Restaurant adjacent, Remi.

Most people assumed, including myself, that this process would be simpler because I have seen so many weddings, so many beautiful ideas and venues. To my surprise, I found myself picking things that were unlike any wedding I had photographed, to ensure our day did not remind me of a past wedding. I first realized this when I was very sure I wanted a blush pink dress. I had not photographed a bride in a blush dress and I fell in love with one at a Pronovias Trunk Show.

We hired the amazing Katie Kett to document our day. It was one of the best things we picked, our final images as you see here, are absolute perfection. Our cinematographer was also amazing, watching our day in our highlight video takes us back to each moment of the day and we feel so blessed to have our wedding so beautifully portrayed by these amazing artists.

JR and I had heard so many times that the day would go so quickly and to try to stay in each moment. I was not really sure what this meant until the day had arrived and I realized it meant letting the little things go, enjoying each moment however it unfolds, and taking small moments to think about how you feel in each part of the day. Two of my most favorite moments of the day are when I was jumping on the bed with my most favorite little girls, we were all on cloud nine and it will forever hold a special place in my heart, the second is when JR and I walked into the reception to the band playing Cheerleader and we could see all of our friends and family smiling and cheering for us. This often plays in my head and I find myself smiling from ear to ear each time I think of it.

One part of the day that had significant influence from my career as a wedding photographer, was the unplugged wedding ceremony. As a professional, it is always been a challenge to do my job properly with so many guests in the aisle using their smart phones and ipads to capture these special moments. We knew we wanted to leave this to our professional team of artists and to give our guests the chance to be fully present as witnesses to our vows. We loved how the poster turned out that we had our Calligrapher create for us.

The details for our day we tried to keep personal and classic. I had the lace from JR’s Mothers dress and the lace from my Grandmother & Mom’s dress sewn to the edges of a vintage handkerchief with my new last initial embroidered on it. Our most cherished detail of the day was the large mirror that sat in cocktail hour with all of our guests names and table numbers. This large mirror is now in our home and we love seeing all of the names of who came to celebrate with us.

Hotel-Worthy Towels Your Guests Will Love

The first thing I do when I plan to have house guests? Make sure my towels are in order! I’m super picky about towels because I think they tell a lot about a home and it’s host. No one likes a ten year old towel that looks like it’s been washed a bazillion times. But a fluffy, lush one? That’s the best way to wrap up after a shower. Take a peek below for some picks that give hotels a run for their money.

How To Style The Perfect Guest Bedroom

Wellness Apps Our Editors Are Using in the New Year

If you’re anything like myself (and the lovely ladies I work with), you make it a priority to set aside time to unplug, but also feel pretty lost without your phone (a.k.a. your digital personal assistant). From nutritional resources to workout inspo to meditative tools, we’re big fans of apps that help keep our bodies and minds on track. See our picks below and let us know any you use in the comments below!

Erin

Stand Up! For those of us that have a sedentary job (ahem you would think I was chained to my computer) this is the perfect little reminder to stand up and take a little stretch throughout the day.

Sleep Cycle. I swear by it (and also now know exactly how bad I sleep!).

Stephanie

Lose It. This little app makes meal planning and creating a “food diary” insanely simple.

Couch to 5k. For the girl who isn’t into running (ahem, me!) this app gets you off the couch and moving. Believe me, if I can train to run a 5k anyone can.

Melissa

Yummly. Each week my husband and I create a loose meal plan so we’re not scrambling when 5pm rolls around. Yummly is a great source of tastebud inspo and even includes a helpful shopping list. Best part? It shows how long each meal will take to make so we know what we’re getting ourselves into.

Eve. This one is more on the personal care side, but so super helpful in tracking your cycle. Especially if you are just getting off any form of birth control, this is a great way to measure your cycle.

Michelle

Pedometer++. Working from home has plenty of perks, one being that my home office tends to involve me parked out on the couch with my laptop. This trend of sitting and snacking can certainly take its toll which is why I’ve challenged myself to up my steps everyday. I find myself finding excuses to be more active in little ways and the bonus is it shows me just how comatose I’ve been the past! It’s the motivation I needed to get up off the couch on those lazy weekends!

Sleep Cycle. I’ll be the first to tell you that I love sleep, but I HATE feeling tired. This app helps give me more insight to my sleep cycles, but one feature I love is that it doubles and an intuitive alarm clock. For example, if you set your alarm to wake you up at 6:30 am, but the app detects that you’re actually in a very shallow sleep at 6:20 am, it will wake you up then so you’ll feel less tired and groggy!

Liz

Headspace. I’m excited to give meditation a real try this year and I’m counting on Headspace to guide me and help me along in this new adventure!

White Noise. We all know how essential sleep is and I’m one of those people who need a little background noise to drift off to dreamland. I use this app’s variety of calming noises to ensure I get all the zzz’s I need!

Gabrielle

SoulCycle. I’m obsessed with the soulcycle app (and soulcycle in general). Even if I’m not at a computer at 12:00 p.m., I can still sign up for my favorite instructor’s class on the go.

ZocDoc. Finding a doctor in a new city isn’t my idea of fun, but ZocDoc makes it easy. The app and website helps you find an in-network doctor no matter what speciality, shares patient reviews and lets you book an appointment with a simple click.

Lexi

My Mira. My workout regime is pretty sad (New Year, New You just went out the window), but I love tracking my steps throughout the day to make sure I’m moving around enough. The Mira app is beyond user friendly, but the actual bracelet is the winner! It looks like a piece of jewelry, so when I’m going for that chic look, you’d never know it’s actually a tracker.

From The Bride…Shaun and I met in the chorus room of our high school when we were 15 years old. It was NOT love at first sight! But one year later, we officially started dating and began our lifelong journey of friendship and love. The years went by and we were simply there for each other—through all of life’s challenges, triumphs, struggles and successes. It was just after our eight year anniversary and the day before my birthday when Shaun proposed at a vineyard in the Virginia mountains, owned by a famous Italian winemaking family. It was fitting for Shaun to choose such a location to propose because we studied abroad together in Florence, Italy in college, and fell in love with everything Italian. In the years leading up to our engagement, we talked about the possibility of getting married in Italy as a way of introducing our favorite place to our favorite people.

After our official engagement, it was clear to Shaun and I that we really did want a small, intimate wedding, and wanted to use this time of celebration to travel with our friends and family to Italy. While it was difficult making the decision to have such a small guest list, since Shaun and I both have large families, we knew it was what we really wanted. So we began brainstorming our perfect Italian wedding that we knew would include lots of amazing food, wine, and frolicking in our beloved Florence.

Thanks to our long engagement, I had the time to plan every detail, and really think about each and every decision to be made. Shaun and I both spent many years working in the food and hospitality industry, so we knew what details to consider and prioritize to pull of a successful event and create amazing memories. Thankfully, every single one of our vendors was top notch and extremely professional, and I felt we brought together the dream team to help make our day the kind of event we wanted. We also enlisted the help of Chic Weddings in Italy, as I knew we would need assistance navigating Italian customs and culture, while seamlessly integrating customs and traditions important to us. Sara of Chic Weddings in Italy was an invaluable asset to the team, and the day would not have gone so smoothly if not for her.

After nearly two years of planning, Shaun and I arrived in Florence for a few days of fun in the city before heading off to the Tuscan countryside for three days of rest and relaxation with our friends and family. During the planning process, Shaun and I were able to fly to Italy on a venue scouting trip. Our original intention was to pick a venue inside Florence proper, because we love the city so much. Among the venues we saw, Sara insisted we take the trip out to see Borgo Stomennano. She even drove us herself! Being the stubborn girl that I am, I was not too thrilled about seeing a venue 45 minutes from Florence, but once we drove up the driveway lined with cypress trees and saw the gorgeous villa just beyond the gates, we knew our city wedding had turned into a Tuscan countryside dream. Borgo Stomennano not only was to be the location of the wedding events, but also served as accommodations for the majority of our 35 guests. We reserved the villa for three days and spent our time swimming in the infinity pool, staying up late laughing and drinking wine, and enjoying the surrounding views of the Tuscan hills and the medieval town of Monteriggioni, where we held our rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.

Once wedding day arrived, it was as everyone says, and they day flew by so quickly. Rain threatened the entire day, and it was stressful in those first few hours making the decision to keep our plans of an outdoor wedding. But once the decision was made, I can’t remember another part of the day where Shaun and I didn’t have a goofy grin on our faces—except when my sweet groom couldn’t keep his tears at bay during practically the entire ceremony. Our ceremony was short, but meaningful as we said our vows among the olive trees. We concluded the ceremony by jumping the broom, one of our favorite parts of the day. After pictures with family and the bridal party, and strolling through the olive grove hand-in-hand for our portraits, Shaun and I were able to join our guests during the aperitif held in the gorgeous Italian gardens at the front of the villa. We will never forget when the sun settled beneath the clouds and cast the most amazing glow in the sky, with Monteriggioni in the background. Magical doesn’t even begin to describe the moment!

After the sun set, we moved to the back of the villa were the dinner table was laid out. We set the mood with chandeliers in the trees, many candles, soft and inviting music and incredible florals by La Rosa Canina. Shaun and I love good food and Shaun is a bartender who makes the most amazing craft cocktails, so the food and drinks had to be phenomenal. Galateo Ricevimenti worked with us to craft a perfect menu that included pesto lasagna, risotto with duck, filet mignon with Chianti Classico sauce and various Tuscan wines. We ended the meal by serving a traditional Italian wedding cake, millefoglie. The layers of puff pastry, Chantilly cream, and berries were assembled in front of the guests, and this moment turned out to be one of the highlights of the whole day. After the meal, we ended the evening by dancing the night away poolside and munching on a midnight snack of gelato and various Italian cookies.

As we settle into married life, and recall the day beautifully captured by Vicki Grafton and East West Production, Shaun and I cannot help but feel tremendously blessed. The years leading up to our wedding were the most stressful of our lives as I finished law school, but every second was worth it. The whole wedding week, we were filled with such peace and love for each other and our crew who surrounded us as we entered into the covenant of marriage. The wedding turned out to be even better than we ever dreamed. We are so thankful for our friends and family who all traveled a long way to celebrate with us, and the beautiful memories that were created that week. I have a feeling many more trips to Italy are in our future.
