10 Bright Tips for Adding Color to Your Home

For most people, myself included, the idea of blanketing your living space in bright colors is down right terrifying. Which is also why most of us go the safe beige route. But this incredibly colorful (and incredibly awesome) home designed by Emily Lister Interiors  just might change your mind. She’s offering up ten tips to infusing your abode with the liveliest of hues. And for the full tour of these happy digs captured by Alyssa Rosenheck, head to the VAULT.

Start by creating a classic neutral base.

To balance the bold colors we wanted to incorporate, I chose a linen tone for the walls and a classic white for the cabinets and trim. This allowed us to use color as accents without overwhelming the space.

Place your color pops intentionally.

The “she” in this client couple loves all things bold and colorful. My challenge was to thrill her with colors without letting her house turn into an Easter Egg, so we chose color locations carefully. Early in the design process we fell in love with Cole & Son’s stunning geometric wallpaper. We wanted to feature it in a central location, without overdoing it. The ideal space was the foyer. It has very limited actual wall space but is visible from most of the main floor for big impact!

Choose a few key colors you love to feature.

Make sure the colors are tied together somewhere in the home (for example- in wallpaper, art, or fabric). The client loves orange, turquoise, and lime (a few of the many colors pulled together in the foyer wallpaper). We featured those colors in different spaces: orange in the office, turquoise in the living room, and lime in the kitchen.

Powder rooms are perfect for being adventurous!

These small gorgeous spaces are guaranteed to be seen by guests and tucked away like a fun surprise, so make them special. In this powder I kept the trim and vanity sleek and simple, but went all out with the wallpaper and mirror to create a bold, fun space.

Go neutral on the big furniture items, because a little color goes a long way.

Unless you’re 100% confident you’ll love that lime green sectional 10 years from now, play it safe with the main key furniture pieces. In this living room I did brown Barcelona chairs and a linen white sofa. The tables and case goods are made up of woods, metals, and mirror finishes. Those choices set the stage for a gorgeous vintage pair of chairs, reupholstered with a stunning turquoise fabric. Voila!

Color defines your home’s personality, so be consistent in your overall color palette.

Every room in this house reflects the homeowners- from the entry foyer to the pantry. Wherever we placed our color accents, we used complimentary and cohesive tones. The foyer wallpaper would have been too overwhelming if we only used pastels everywhere else in the home, so whatever color tones and depths you’re drawn to, just keep it consistent.

“Spend smart” on colorful items that you can update and add to as you evolve.

So you’ve invested first in a great neutral base that stands the test of time and changing trends. Now add your pops of color in pillows, lamps, and accessories (and some killer wallpaper here and there), with some savvy shopping and a little bargain hunting. For example: the pair turquoise living room chairs was a $25 flea market find, made over with a fun new fabric. The bold throw pillows were scored from Target and some great online sites. TJ Maxx Home Goods has tons of treasures hidden among the shelves at great prices as well.

Art is worth the investment.

A great way to bring in color that is worth every penny is a fabulous piece of original art that you love! My clients love art and have a fabulous eclectic collection. They’ve also got a personal story for each piece. I tucked art everywhere in this project- small pieces in bookshelves, vintage maps from a trip to Paris in the office, and a stunning sunset painting gracing the living room mantle, to name a few.

Pick a colorful pattern or texture you love and place it somewhere you’ll enjoy it!

In the beginning of the design process, my client had gone crazy for a unique glass mosaic tile. After a full year of thinking about it during the design and construction phases, she still had no hesitation on using such a bold tile. This water jet cut black, white, and green stained glass mosaic became the life and personality in this otherwise “standard white kitchen.” We played off the green with fun barstool fabric and a green accent cabinet to balance out the kitchen.

A rug is a great place for color.

You could have a white house with soft tones on furniture and in art, yet have a hot pink Turkish rug, and the space still feels serene and balanced. The color is not up in your face, but grounds the room. You can pull accent colors out of the rug in small doses in art and pillows. In this living room we did classic paneled white walls and a light ceiling, while using a bold orange rug. So spring for that funky colorful Moroccan or geometric rug!

Elegant French Chateau Gilded Wedding Inspiration

If I could, I’d move right into this little gallery and take up residence. Because honestly, does it get any better?! The answer is no, no it doesn’t. With Feather And Stone behind the lens snapping up every elegant detail dreamed up by Victoria Cameron, this is one inspiration that is beautiful beyond words. Find your own meaning to the magic in The Vault!

From Feather And StoneTaking inspiration from the French inspired Deux Belettes Guest House we tell a story of romance. The humble girl feels a sense of vulnerability as she prepares herself to love and to be loved. The mood for this shoot was sensual yet delicate and quite. The MXM dresses say so much already we didn’t need to accessorize the story with too many details.

Everything from the beautiful florals to handwritten calligraphy complimented the intricate details of each MXM gown. The girl seems to melt away behind the hand beaded bodes and layers of hand dyed tool. Her hair and makeup was subtle yet defined enough to speak her natural beauty.

The Guest House was so detailed, so authentic we didn’t have to do a thing and just to create some contrast we used a backdrop in a naturally lit room to document the finer details of the day. There is beauty in simplicity.

From The Bride… When I was 7 years old and lugging my softball gear around the rec fields near my house, I never dreamed that my groom- to-be was the lanky little boy with dark hair play-wrestling with my brother on the side lines in the grass. And thats how our story began – we spent our whole entire childhood visiting the same athletic fields, restaurants, banks, and grocery stores but always just barely missing one another. Fast forward to October of 2007, Will was a freshman in college at SPSU and came back to his Alma Mater for the homecoming football game. I had just transfered to Landmark and his best friend Sam “introduced” us. In the words of Will, he was smitten. Shortly thereafter he sent me this little snippet in a love note, “I don’t know your favorite color or favorite ice cream flavor or favorite song, but I do know that those ocean blue eyes dance when you smile at me and that is enough to completely capture me.” SWOOONNNN.

I wasn’t even allowed to date though and knew my parents would never go for me dating a boy in college. So, we kept in touch every once in a while, but the flame burned out. Fast forward to to March of 2011, I was going with my brother to a college orientation at ABAC in Tifton. I mistakenly thought this was the school Will now attended and sent him a text telling him I was visiting his school that day. He responded and said ” You’re coming to SPSU?” Whoops, I didn’t even know where he went to college. (Face to palm!) We shared a laugh and a good conversation and I decided to look him up on Facebook afterwards. I couldn’t help but noticing how handsome he was. Handsome + sweet + he loves the Lord? Score. I told my mom that night I was going to get that boy to take me on a date ;)

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a fan of ladies pursuing men, I genuinely believe that this is the man’s responsibility. Well, I here I was pining for this man and reminiscing over how sweet he had been in days past, but I had no way of “being pursued” by him. He was clueless that I was interested, we never saw each other. He lived an hour and a half away, and to make matters worse when he had liked me years ago I just brushed it off and quit talking to him. I obviously had nothing going for me here. So what did I do? I kinda broke my rule and decided I would text him once a week and if he was interested and it was meant to be he would get the hint…my gosh that took forever! This one text a week went on for a solid month. I would text him, we would have these awesome conversations, he would be so sweet & fun and then…crickets. I wouldn’t hear from him until the following week! Finally after four weeks of this I was about to say, ” Oh well!” on the whole idea when Will asked me if I would like to spend a Saturday with him! YAY! Finally!

The following week he came and picked me up and I hopped up in his truck and we rode country roads and went fishing at Lake Raymond. The whole day was just fun and easy. I never was nervous or worried what he thought. It was just easy like two old friends just having the best day. That is until he suggested we watch the sunset from the bed of his truck while we slow danced and he sang to me. DOUBLE SWOON. My heart was totally gone. I came home that night and told my mom that I was going to marry that boy, I was sure of it. From that night on we have been pretty much inseparable. There have been ups and downs and we have faced many trials, but through it all we have grown closer and our love for one another has grown deeper. I couldn’t ask for a more kind, caring, loving or Godly example to lead me. Isn’t it so amazing how God works things out if we just trust in His Sovereign plan!

As wedding photographers we see how easily couples can become consumed in the wedding planning process and as a bride I knew I didn’t want all that that encompassed. We talked about eloping in the mountains, but after we bought our new home, Simply Sarah Farms, we knew it was the perfect place for a small intimate wedding. Will proposed and we planned the whole affair in exactly 8 weeks. My vision for the wedding was simple elegance. Our farm has a cabin in the woods so I wanted to play off of the natural elements that was offered there and lots of elegant organic touches.

For starters, I had this picture in my head of all 100 of our guests eating off of one big long farm table under the trees. So off to work my dad and his friends went making 12 ten foot long wooden farm tables. Our amazing florist, Lindsay Coletta decorated these tables with greenery garland that she foraged the morning of the wedding, pomegranates, figs, and then she added in pops of bold red and white floral buds. These florals paired with tall taper candles on bronze candlesticks and pillar candles made for a table scape prettier than I ever imagined.

The second thing I knew I wanted but was a little difficult to make happen was getting married in the river. Since we bought the farm we spend nearly every weekend out on the river kayaking, tubing and fishing. Everyone thought I was crazy when they heard my plan but I knew we could make it happen. We started going down to the river weeks ahead of time and making a flat path for guest to stand and walk, changing the course of water up stream, and cleaning up tree limbs and debris. My talented dad handmade a beautiful arbor for us to get married under and we used ferns as aisle markers down into the shallow banks. We used a canoe for the getaway from the ceremony. It was perfect! I am so pleased with how everything turned out and so very thankful for all of our friends, family, and amazing team of vendors who made our day a possible!

The Cool Girl Double Half Bun Tutorial

We all know a “cool girl.”  The girl who leaves the house in T-shirts and ripped jeans but somehow looks like she hopped off a NYFW runway. The girl who has perfectly-unperfect down to a science. And the only thing consistently chicer than this it-girl’s style?! Her hair. A tad-messy and totally pretty, it’s the kind of ‘do that looks like it could’ve taken an hour, but you know it only took 5 minutes. Lucky for us, bonafide cool girl Emily Barton of Designed Elegance is spilling her secrets to create this Instagram-worthy style! Follow step-by-step, straight from the lens of  Kelsey Albright Photography below!

CURL HAIR: Start by curling your whole head of hair with a 1.5 inch curling iron.

SECTION HAIR + PULL INTO A HALF-UP: Take a small section of hair from the top of your head and pull it into a small elastic band, creating a half-up look.

CREATE “TOPSY TAIL”: Next, take the section of the hair in the elastic band and divide it in half. With your fingers, pull the section of hair through the middle part. This motion creates the twist look, or “topsy tail.” Pull the twists apart slightly to give hair more volume. Next, take the section of hair directly under it on the crown of your head and repeat the steps above to create a second layer of twists.

WRAP HAIR TO CREATE LOOSE BUNS: Next, divide the section of hair hanging in the elastic band in two. Wrap the first section around to create a loose bun and use bobby pins to secure the hair at the base of the elastic band. Repeat for the second section.

SMOOTH + FINISH: Smooth flyaways and finish the look with a long hold hairspray like Kenra 25.

Make This Chic Ponytail Your New Weekend Uniform

Buns and ponytails are usually interchangeable in the weekend hairstyle rotation. But my regular old ponytails don’t look like this pretty little number from Face Time Beauty + You Look Lovely Photography. All it takes is a simple wrap of hair and your pony will be the true definition of effortless chic. Pair it with Springtime denim and voila! Casual weekend vibes kicked up a few notches.

Start with freshly curled hair or hair that naturally has bend.

Take the top layer right at the crown and backcomb at roots to give a bit of volume.

Let top layer down and put all hair in a ponytail at desired placement.

Take one small section of hair from underneath the ponytail and wrap around the ponytail holder, using a bobbie pin to secure.

Rub the hair at the top of the pony (near the holder) to give it texture and use a texturizing spray if needed.

Fix any flyaways and style front as needed. For a modern, “lived-in” look, keep some hair down on neck.

From Foraged FloralChristina and Howard had a vision of an intimate and naturally styled wedding in downtown Chicago. They were inspired by the unique decor that The Kitchen (a completely new restaurant and venue – we were one of their first weddings!) offered with its industrial charm, but also wanted the environment to be cozy, and intimate, for their guests to enjoy and relax. They decided on not having a bridal party at all, so their friends and family could all relax and not stress about anything. We worked together for many months planning and perfecting the vision they had, which included many seasonal inspired florals to compliment the botanical prints they loved, as well as some beautiful handcrafted pieces.

Their ceremony took place at Bond Chapel, on the University of Chicago’s campus, where Christina attended. The chapel has beautiful stained glass windows, amazing wooden details and a cozy atmosphere. We brought in a classically trained pianist to serenade guests with music that you wouldn’t find at your normal wedding (more classical piano pieces from operas and theatrical events, no Canon in D here!), which really set the tone for a sophisticated and unique ceremony. After the ceremony, guests were transported to The Kitchen, just along the river in downtown Chicago, for a delicious and unique family style dinner among long, wooden communal tables and lounge areas.

As their florist and event designer, I really loved designing their arrangements and bouquets, but some of my favorite details were the smallest ones – the vintage botanical print book that Velvet Raptor made into a guestbook, the fact that they hand wrote each couple a letter on handmade paper, which designated where they would sit at the family style tables with calligraphy by BUSHYL, and even the signature drinks they crafted together. I have to admit, watching each guest open the envelope with their seating assignment listed on it, only to find a handwritten note from the couple was the sweetest thing, and something I know they will cherish for a long time.

The florals used for Christina and Howard were something special and I spent many weeks planning out exactly what flowers I wanted to used to fit their theme and warm palette. We incorporated a large amount of seasonal flowers like local dahlias, garden roses, fall foliage, scabiosa, and we were lucky enough to get peonies too! :) SO rare in October, but we were so happy!

Olivia Leigh, who is nothing short of amazing, captured the day with film and digital images, which I love! Olivia truly knows how to make everything pop and was so impressed with the images she passed along to us after their wedding.

Nothing was missed, as they wanted their guests to feel at home, comfortable and loved. Christina and Howard are some of the nicest, most gracious and wonderful people out there, and they deserved nothing but the best for their October celebration in Chicago! Congrats to Christina and Howard!

From a Long Distance Romance to a Dreamy Pasadena Garden Wedding

When it comes to planning the perfect wedding, trusting your vendors is essential. Well, this beautiful Bride and her dashing Groom took that trust to the next level — booking the venue before seeing it in person and meeting most of their vendors on the day of their wedding. But, it’s safe to say they put their faith in the right people, because their Pasadena wedding, captured by Honey Honey Photography, is an absolute dream. Head to The Vault for every pretty moment!

From The Bride…We met through a mutual friend in 2012. Although we lived 500 miles apart, we managed to continue our flirtations over text messages, emails, and phone calls for 5 months. Our first date was in NYC. We ditched the dinner-and-movie idea and spent the whole day together, from morning to midnight. These day-long dates would continue for over a week. On the eve of my departure, James took me to the Brooklyn Bridge and asked me to be his girlfriend overlooking the stunning Manhattan skyline.

Our once-every-month or -two dates were abridged by countless Facetime talks, all of which were more precious than words could describe. We created many memories exploring the beautiful cities of NYC and Ottawa through the changing of seasons. On our second year anniversary, we came back to the Brooklyn Bridge. James got down on his knee and popped the big question.

Planning a wedding is like trying to multitask on a rollercoaster going backwards. Our greatest challenge was to plan everything remotely. We signed the contract with our venue before seeing it in person. And we met most of our vendors on the day of — yes, even my makeup artist. Thankfully, we couldn’t have asked for better vendors.

There were three possible locations to hold the ceremony: a garden with a fountain, under a giant tree, and on a bridge. We decided to go with the bridge over a cute pond. The setting was unique. We were surrounded by our guests 360 degrees, instead of having them just behind us. The aisle was a long beautiful staircase flanked by tall Italian cypress tress with a stately mansion as the backdrop. While walking down the aisle, my dad blessed me wholeheartedly. It was an unforgettable father-daughter moment.

Our wedding was in Pasadena on a beautiful day in October. We wanted our photos to be organic and full of emotions rather than have each shot be picture perfect. Emma and Allen from Honey Honey Photography did a stellar job capturing the full gamut of emotions and idiosyncrasies of each moment. When we open our wedding album 10, 20 years from now, I would want to see how much fun we had and recall all the emotions we shared. How perfect my hair was or how long my makeup lasted is secondary. So, one thing I would like to share with all the brides-to-be is don’t worry about how you will look in photos or if things will go perfectly as you had planned. Rather, just be in the present and enjoy every single moment!

Rustic White Sparrow Barn Wedding

This is the kind of wedding that makes me fall head over heels in love with weddings all over again. It’s beautiful in every sense of the word – the gorgeous blooms by Blooming Accents are beyond pin-worthy, the White Sparrow Barn couldn’t be a more dreamy venue, and the images from Shaun Menary Photography are truly works of art. But you know what really gets me? The love this couple and their families obviously share. That gets me at my very core. See even more in the VAULT.

Rustic

From The Bride…Five years ago when I opened up my Pinterest account, I unashamedly started a “Fairytale” board to pin all of my future wedding details. 500 pins later and with a big rock on my finger I was quickly overwhelmed by all of the ideas and trends I had pinned on my board, Needless to say, I sifted through my pins and found that my style had changed quite a bit over the years. However, I let Style Me Pretty lead the way for my inspiration, while they provided real life examples of ideas I had envisioned.

I wanted the room to look very soft, elegant, and dare I say magical when people came into the room. I was also very drawn to antique looking items so my mother searched high and low at every thrift store around. We bought glass vases from the dollar store and mercury-glassed them to create a high-end look on a high-end budget. We found candelabras on sale and spray-painted them the colors we desired. I hand-lettered our decorations to give it a personalized look. Our amazing florist Gloria Parker helped gave me the full look I was going for by adding lots of moss and garland to the centerpieces. We also had pictures of my parents and grandparents wedding invitations framed on our cake table as well!

On the more personal side, we wanted our wedding to be as Christ-centered as possible. Jordan and I are both Christians, and since it was the Lord that has kept us together throughout the 4 and a half years of dating, we wanted to make it a point to others that he was the center of our day. My bridal party prayed over me before the wedding, we worshipped at the beginning of our ceremony, we had our family pray over us, wrote our own vows, and washed each others feet.

We also, however, wanted to make sure that our celebration was a P A R T Y. My bridesmaids and I had a choreographed dance, there was a margarita bar, Jordan and I shoved cake in each others faces, and to top it all off Jordan surprised me with fireworks at the end! But right before we left, we kicked everyone out of the room and had a last dance, just Jordan and I. It was one of my most favorite memories from the wedding.

Needless to say, it was a day full of magical details, lots of laughs, family, friends, Jesus, and a pretty awesome dance party.

The ceremony was held in the main square of Oia during sunset, where the bride arrived with her family and close friends in a procession on foot accompanied by local musicians performing traditional wedding songs.

The couple opted for a romantic decor but at the same time they wanted to incorporate the colors and natural elements found on the Cycladic island of Santorini. Their stationery was the color of the blue domed chapels and local houses while for their flowers they mixed pastel pink garden roses with vibrant fuchsia bougainvillea. The lovely bridesmaids wore blush dresses while the bride looked stunning in a lace Pallas Couture gown.

This beautiful day would not have been possible without the excitement, warmth and love of the couple’s friends and family who made the whole day the most memorable for the lovely couple.

From Jacqui Cole PhotographyShooting a wedding day like Coley and Matt’s really reminds me of how lucky I am to have this job. Their love for each other just shone throughout the whole day! Just before the ceremony I specifically remember asking Matt if he was nervous. Without hesitation he said he was just so excited to marry his best friend and couldn’t wait to be her husband. This love was evident through every hug, a tearful first look and a joyful celebration that carried into the evening.

Tracie Domino Events executed Coley’s vision perfectly. Her color choices were ivory with accents of gold and rose gold. Through using simple and elegant floral arrangements on top of glitzy linens Coley’s wedding vision came to life! Her bridesmaids looked absolutely stunning in their Badgley Mishka dresses from Rent the Runway and of course Coley herself made every jaw drop in her boutique gown. The guests danced the night away to the Phase 5 Band who kept the dance floor packed all night! Coley and Matt left their wedding through an amazing sparkler exit and onto a horse drawn carriage – how perfect can it get?! So many congratulations to the happy couple!

Adorably Sweet Nautical Summer Wedding

Wedding blogger confession time! This BHLDN dress? It’ll forever be a favorite. It’s wedding dress perfection in my eyes and add in the superb hair and makeup talents of Janelle On Location and this Bride is BEAMING. Lauren Fair captured her and all the delightful details of this waterfront wedding and it’s all in our Vault for us to pin and pine over. Join me there!

From Lauren Fair Photography… Devon and Adam’s summer wedding was all things lush, simple, nautical and classically beautiful. The Gatsby-esque mansion of Glen Foerd Estate was an incredible backdrop for their vision! Oleander Florals and Design brought their vision to life with oversized bouquets of whites and greens, and incorporated textural ropes and sea glass into the reception decor. Their wedding had the most perfect soft golden hour as a jazz band played on the patio and guests mingled together on the waterfront. It was nothing short of magical!

From Pearl & Godiva… Many couples dream of an intimate wedding, sharing these magical moments with just their nearest and dearest, on a day which reflects their own personal style from start to finish. We were so honoured to make this a reality for Grace and Paul, which took place in the spell-bounding environs of the Crom Castle on Lough Erne in Northern Ireland.

Crom Castle is an enchanting historic castle which sits beside Lough Erne, the perfect backdrop for an exquisite wedding. This waterside kingdom was a huge inspiration for the day, given that guests took a boat ride along Lough Erne to join the couple celebrate their their wedding ceremony in the ancient stone chapel.

Inspired by the words of Henry David Thoreau, we began creating a day completely unique to such a loving couple.

“If you have built castles in the sky
Let not your dreams go to waste;
Just build the foundations under them.”
~ Henry David Thoreau.

Following months of preparation, on a glorious June morning we made our way to Crom Castle to create a timeless and elegant wedding for Grace and Paul. To see our design come to life was dreamlike, from the bespoke stationery, hand-crafted linens, to the luscious florals, tumbling out of every nook, adorning all surfaces. Together with Magva Design & Letterpress we drew inspiration from the wooden boats that sail by the castle. Painterly blooms by Floral Earth crept across hand dyed tablecloths, with florals barely contained in their over-sized urns, teaming beautifully with glinting gold flatware and gold rimmed glassware.

Grace and Paul’s love was captured in the low light of dusk, as mist raised from the lake and cloaked the landscape with cool wispy light.

From the Bride… We sort of have an unofficial “theme” to the wedding based on our hometown. We both grew up in Saltaire, Fire Island – that’s where we met as kids and also where we got engaged so designed the wedding around this idea of a “seaside home” vibe.

Many young girls and women spend hours dreaming of their wedding day. The dress. The flowers. The cake. The first dance. It’s hard for me to explain why I never dreamed about my wedding day growing up. It wasn’t for lack of excitement, or because I didn’t plan on getting married, I wanted to begin my experience with an open mind and feel free to do whatever felt right. That’s why, when it came time to begin the planning process with my husband, our perfect day came as naturally as our love for each other.

It is unusual, these days, to find the person you want to marry when you are fourteen. We both grew up spending our summers in a beach community on Fire Island. In our town there are no cars, bikes are the only form of transport, and people don’t wear shoes. The reason this place is so special though is because of the life-long friendships that are forged there. This was where our relationship started, and everything grew from there.
Michael proposed to me on that very same island, the night of the summer solstice, on a quiet sunset-lit beach. We later met up with our friends and family for an evening of celebration. It was a perfect night!

When it came time to start planning, we both agreed very early-on that the most important thing for us was to have all of our family and closest friends in attendance. With this in mind, we knew we wanted to keep our wedding fairly local; within a few hours of New York City. While we thought this decision had simplified the process, we had no idea how many wedding venues are in this area. Our amazing wedding planners at Daughter of Design helped us narrow down the choices and imagine all the ways each space could be used. When we came across the Altman Building, an old carriage house in Manhattan with white brick walls and vaulted ceilings, we didn’t know right away that this was the place for us. We decided to have our wedding here for two reasons; first it is a beautiful vintage-industrial structure, but more importantly, this wide open venue gave us the ability to be creative and to turn the space into anything we could imagine. Obviously this flexibility is a two-sided coin, more freedom meant more work, however, it also meant that each aspect of the design, decor and style were distinctly “us”! Our hand was in the detail of every element of the wedding.

Even though we chose not to have our wedding theme focused on Fire Island, it is such an important part of our lives that our talented florist, Louis Miller Design, and planner, helped us find ways to incorporate unique “nods” wherever we could. For example, our entryway was decorated with iron maritime lanterns, potted beach grass, and a wooden wagon. The escort card display was modeled after the tennis sign-up board from the island. Even the cocktail-hour had lights hanging from the ceiling to create a warm mid-summer feel.

Our ceremony was a few blocks from our apartment, at the church Michael and I are both members of. To help create a more personal experience Michael’s pastor traveled up from his home town in New Jersey. Her sermon was better than either of us could have imagined, drawing from aspects of both of our lives and recognizing the strengths in our relationship. It set this infectious tone for the night. The reception and after-party were executed flawlessly. For me the most challenging part of the wedding was not the decision making or the planning, it was trying to stay in the moment the entire time. What everyone tells you is correct, the whole thing goes by really fast. The best advice I could give to future brides and grooms on this monumental day is to enjoy every second and take in every moment.
