See An Overgrown Meadow Turned Wedding Ceremony Dream!

There’s something so romantic about a wedding held in your family’s backyard, and for this Bride that meant converting an overgrown meadow into the most beautiful ceremony backdrop ever. Along with Kristi Amoroso and Kathleen Deery the couple welcomed 250 guests to an at-home celebration, and Jose Villa was on hand to capture. Join us for a gallery you’ll never forget.

From Kristi Amoroso Special EventsThe bride and groom chose to be married at the bride’s family summer home in Geyserville, California. They transformed a wildly overgrown meadow into a grassy, serene ceremony space surrounded by trees and wildflowers. The dinner and dancing tent was placed in the back of the home, with an amazing view of the hills. The guest list of over 250 came from all over the country, and many stayed into the wee hours, where the party moved onto the tennis court for some old college games.

Some unique highlights of the wedding: a series of cakes were brought out by the catering staff, with sparklers on top; tambourines were passed and used during the early dances by the guests; a family friend lead the guests down a lovely winding path while playing the trumpet; the bride and her father entered the ceremony to John Denver’s Annie’s Song.

The Prettiest Way You Can Use Faux Flowers on Your Big Day

Flowers are one of my favorite parts of any wedding — the enchanting aroma, stunning colors and natural beauty set the tone for a gorgeous day. But for this Bride and Groom, wild and loose florals in soft, dusty pink hues weren’t enough so they used over-the-top paper roses for an unforgettable first look. The result is an added touch of whimsy in this light-hearted and romantic Healdsburg day. See it all from Hannah Suh Photography and Wonderland Cinema in The Vault!

From The Bride…The dream venue we searched for was an authentic garden meets barn property that felt cozy & humble yet naturally stunning. Healdsburg Country Gardens – there you have it — a place that did not need an ounce of decoration to take your breath away.

Our goal was to create a celebration that reflected us in every detail – our relationship being silly & fun, the things we love like travel & food, and being on a big vacation with those closest to us. We leaned away from choosing a set theme in the decor, although looking back it ended up with a rustic, whimsical, elegant feel. We hoped the day would feel warm, personal, light-hearted, delicious, and romantic in every way – and kept the focus on just that.

We added elements that we felt would enhance the beauty of HCG while feeling special to us. We decided to tread lightly around the social norms of weddings – tradition with flair we called it. The wedding touches ranged from Sonoma olive oil from our first trip together there, hashtag blocks from a market in our home city of Boston, a Reason mashup of songs to tie to our new last name, my closet collection of ridiculous items in the photo booth, vodka shipped from Nantucket with local farm jam, and a whole lot of glow sticks to top off the night.

Outside of the wedding day, it was important that our guests’ experience felt comfortable & convenient throughout the weekend. Instead of a rehearsal dinner, we opted for a welcome party at Rodney Strong Vineyards with a reggae band, lawn games, outdoor pizza oven, and wine tasting party. Instead of letting the wedding head to the bars after and scatter, we had an after party at h2hotel and setup karaoke, cards against humanity, & jenga to help keep the night entertained. Rather than a brunch the next day, we had a low key meet up at Francis Ford Coppola winery pool.

Our recommendation is to create a day & weekend that you two will enjoy first and foremost! Think about what you remember most at weddings and what matters to you both, and start there. Your wedding is a unique creation that comes together as you go. Let one decision influence the next. At the end of the day, it’s just an awesome party to celebrate two people in love! Make it perfect to you – and it will feel perfect to everyone.

The Skincare Routine You MUST Try the Month Leading up to Your Wedding

If we’re being honest, those final weeks before a wedding day can be a bit of a roller coaster. You’re trying to button up all of the loose ends to ensure that the day goes off without a hitch all while balancing the huge idea of getting married. But here’s the deal. Forgetting to take care of YOU is an easy mistake. Every last one of you deserves that wedding day glow and that’s why we’re partnering with Simple Skincare to show you exactly how to get it. And guess what? It’s really simple.

4 WEEKS OUT

One month is all you need to master the Simple Skincare routine.

  • Start with Micellar Make-Up Remover Wipes and Micellar Cleansing Water (no rinsing required!) to instantly boost skin’s hydration.  Think Triple Purified Water, otherwise known as the magic solution that will totally help remove those contaminants that can irritate your skin.
  • Stock up on moisturizers. Dehydrated skin = dull.  Moisturized skin = gorgeous.
  • Start perfecting your smile with a solid tooth whitening game plan. You definitely won’t be sorry when you see how great those pearly whites look in photos!
  • Don’t forget to book your hair trial, so you can narrow down your exact look.

2 WEEKS OUT

It’s time to focus on staying healthy, and that means beauty from the inside out.

  • Start chugging that water.  Avoid too much salt and alcohol.  Keep up the exercise.  Take your vitamins daily.  It’s a step by step to achieving that inner glow.
  • Confirm all of your appointments, like wedding day beauty and that mani/pedi that totally matches your color scheme.   Oh, and most definitely pre-pay, lovelies… you don’t want ANYTHING to add stress to your Big Day.

1 WEEK OUT

It’s time to take care of those last-minute grooming needs!

  • Book that final brow appointment (you can clean them up the morning of) and ready those lips with a lip exfoliator (we made ours out of sugar and coconut oil).
  • Go makeup free by cleansing skin daily using Simple Skincare’s Micellar Make-Up Remover Wipes and Micellar Cleansing Water, two products that are sooo kind to your skin, it’ll be glowing with freshness.

DAY BEFORE

You’ll be a ball of nerves the day before the BIG DAY (trust us), but diving into all of those final details will most definitely keep you on the go.

  • Start by getting that final mani/pedi, so your nails look totally fresh, then prep your hair for the stylist with a blow-out (second day hair is always the best for holding that look).
  • RELAX.  Curl up in that cozy robe with your besties, sip a glass of rosé and watch your favorite movie. You deserve it.

MORNING OF

Congratulations, loves.  You made it.

  • Moisturize with Simple Skincare’s lineup of sensitive skin products. Your skin will love you for it.
  • Pour that mimosa… then sit back, relax and get ready to be pampered. Your day is here, and it’s going to be awesome.

This Intimate Wedding Proves That Bigger Isn’t Always Better

Theresa and Klaus have officially convinced us that cozy, intimate weddings are bar none the best. For not only was their relaxed, emotional and incredibly beautiful affair every photographers dream (just ask Ashley Ludaescher!), but Theresa also wore an altered version of her mother’s wedding dress. To say that it was perfection would be putting it lightly, see for yourself in The Vault!

From Ashley LudaescherKlaus and Theresa’s wedding was one that beautifully represented everything I love about weddings and why I feel so blessed to be a wedding photographer. Their intimate wedding was relaxed, emotional and incredibly beautiful. It was a photographer’s dream at two incredibly stunning venues in Potsdam, outside of Berlin, Germany. Yet even with all the stunning details, the wedding was truly about Theresa and Klaus and their love and commitment. I was moved to tears documenting the tenderness between them and their intense love for one another.

Theresa had her mother’s wedding dress altered for her civil wedding ceremony and I loved the effortless and chic look combined with her crown braid. Their ceremony location, Belvedere on the Pfingstberg, was built in 1863 by King Frederick William IV and offers exquisite views of Potsdam and the surrounding forest and lakes. After the intimate civil ceremony, guests were served champagne and cake atop a boat which toured the nearby Wannsee and the connecting lakes. It was the perfect way to escape the heat on what was one of the hottest days of the summer. Afterwards dinner was served as the sun set in the lakeside garden of Kleines Schloss Babelsberg. It was such a beautiful day and they were the sweetest couple to work with.

Card Dealing Grandparents Set the Stage For This Meant to Be Marriage

This is one of those “Wow, it’s a small world” weddings. Their grandparents played bridge together at their Jewish Country Club years ago and their fathers became friends in middle school. So after some smart parental meddling, these two found each other and well, here they are now. Lisa O’Dwyer captured their happily ever after – planned in six weeks may I had – and the results are picture perfect. Head to the Vault for them all!

From the Bride… Like all great love stories, ours started long before we were born… our grandparents were fierce bridge competitors at their Jewish country club in Minnesota.

Our fathers befriended each other in middle school and later, they survived many harrowing ski trips and the 70’s and 80’s as best friends.

Michael and I grew up seeing each other at holidays, family gatherings, and bar mitzvahs. We weren’t in close touch, as I lived with my mom in Seattle and Michael’s family harkened from Denver.

We went about our formative years with no sense of what was to come… We pursued our respective interests, went off to college, traveled, and forged our way toward adulthood with no inkling of our foreshadowed fate.

In the spring of 2011, Michael, who was at that time traveling and working his way through Colombia, decided it was time for a change of scenery and took a job sight unseen, just hours outside of New York. I was, at the same time, living in New England, training horses and riders for national competition.

Through a series of discoveries (instigated, of course, by our Jewish parents) it was brought to our attention that Michael and I were living a mere five miles apart from one another in rural Connecticut!

In late August of that year, we connected for a drink (for our parents’ sake, naturally!). And that very drink turned into (GASP!) a date! And after dates two, three, and four…. we were in love. Instantly. Surprisingly. IN LOVE!

We carved out a life together in the quiet of Litchfield County, amidst a cacophony of crickets, owls, and frogs. We cultivated a wonderful community and prepared for our next steps of togetherness.

I returned to Event Planning, my previous career, and became the Senior Event Planner at Winvian, Relais & Chateaux in the Litchfield Hills, planning high-end weddings and events for the country’s heavy-hitters in fashion, finance, global business, and the arts.

In the winter of 2013, we relocated to Denver to grow our own businesses and be closer to friends and family. Claire Gordon Events made its Colorado debut later that season. Chef Michael created Farmer’s Kitchen, a locally sourced and organic fresh meal delivery business, servicing Colorado’s busy families.

Michael proposed on March 17, 2015 while we were on a venue scouting trip to Mexico with a custom four carat morganite and diamond ring! We deliberated long and hard about how and where to have our nuptials, always mindful of having an intimate experience, a grand departure from the 250+ person weddings that I produce for work.

It wasn’t until we were vacationing at our mountain home in Crested Butte, Colorado over the July 4th holiday weekend that we decided to push the “GO” button and begin planning our wedding…IN SIX WEEKS!

I had an open weekend August 22, 2015 and once we had confirmation from our nearest and dearest 35 guests, it was full steam ahead and the Claire Gordon Events team got to work!

Cicada Bridal, a Seattle-based design house, created my semi-custom gown in five weeks with the help of bridal boutique extraordinaire, A&Bé. Donna Beth Creations crafted a perfect off-the-shoulder bolero jacket to accompany.

I rallied a dynamic vendor team of Colorado’s finest! Both our floral designer, Flora by Nora, and our incredible photographer, Lisa O’Dwyer, rearranged previous commitments to be available for our wedding weekend and dove into the project with love and enthusiasm. We rented a beautiful private residence for our ceremony, featuring 360 degree views of the Butte, Maroon Belles and the Crested Butte valley. We partnered with husband and wife team, Kate and Chris Ladoulis, Crested Butte’s premiere restaurateur and chef, to host our reception. Sweet Letterpress and DesignsGirl created our incredible botanical print inspired invitation suite with hand-calligraphed envelopes.

Together, Nora and I conceptualized the design for the wedding, a modern interpretation of a Victorian aesthetic, updated with whimsical and unpretentious mountain-inspired details. The design reflected a warm palette of bright blooms with French blue details, natural elements like stoneware containers juxtaposed with antique pewter, and late summer stone fruit and figs.

Our ceremony was “Jewish-ish”, featuring an Aspen branch chuppah, a blessing circle and ring warming ceremony, and wine in our Kiddush cup dating back to the year of my birth (set aside 25 years ago by my step father).

The reception featured James Beard Foundation nominee, Kate Ladoulis’ famed tart cherry braised short ribs and Colorado striped bass with a golden raisin and shallot agrodolce. Chris selected Italian wines to pair perfectly with the meal. We enjoyed a smattering of desserts including the guest favorite, citrus crema catalana. Our guests noshed and drank and celebrated until the wee hours of the morning!

Our shotgun wedding (planned in six weeks) exceeded all expectations and the details were truly representative of our history, our families, our autonomous love, and our future!

Magic is for Sure Happening in this Dream-Worthy Master Bedroom

Gold Peacock wallpaper and a velvet headboard are undoubtedly a dream team. Especially when it comes to revamping your master bedroom. Speaking of dream teams, another fab duo is responsible for this gorgeous space. Wallpaper guru, Erin Minckley Chlaghmo of Relativity Textiles, and vintage furniture refinsher, Meg Piercy of Megmade, crafted the ultimate dream bedroom. See even more photographed by Carolina Mariana right here!

Relativity Textiles is a handmade wallpaper company based in Chicago, IL. Inspired by the history of global fabrics, Relativity launched their first collection of wallcoverings in 2015 and will release a selection of fabrics in Summer 2016. All handmade and hand screen printed in Chicago, these papers are works of art. Made by artisans and inspired by the world.

The founder and lead designer, Erin Minckley Chlaghmo, teamed up with her friend Meg Piercy of MegMade, a local furniture refinishing business, to create a dreamy master bedroom full of light and romance. The Peacock Gold wallpaper is inspired by the feathers of a majestic and mystical bird. Hand painted patterns are translated through hand screen printing creating an all over texture for Meg’s room that totally transformed the space. The side tables were refinished thanks to MegMade.

Meg and Erin are both mothers of two and entrepreneurs. Starting out in her garage, Meg built her business in the past 5 years into a booming warehouse full of midcentury dressers and hutches in every color and finish. She does custom restoration and painting and will soon launch a boutique collection of one of a kind pieces. Their friendship has inspired some pretty awesome collaborations including this bedroom and some of Erin’s furniture was refinished by Meg. The drawers were of course lined in custom wallpaper patterns.

Insider Advice on Planning a Destination Wedding

Hello, Brides! Nicole of Sorella Muse here to share with you the most important piece of advice I can give about destination wedding planning: don’t do it alone! If you take just one thing away from this post, I hope it’s that planning a destination bash requires help! But I think you’re going to take away a lot more, because I’ve asked my lovely planner Nira of Amber Events to share her top tips for destination wedding planning with you!

[dotted]

Destination Wedding Tips with Amber Events

1. Enhance Your Venue, Don’t Fight It

You are traveling to a unique destination for a reason. Do you enjoy the exotic feeling of steamy Zanzibar? The lush tropical serenity of Bali? Or is it the ancient stone walls of a European mansion that captured your imagination? Why did you select your wedding location?

When incorporating design and wedding traditions, think about ways to enhance the experience of your particular destination. Wines, stinky (but oh so delicious) cheeses, and cured meats should be on the menu for a Tuscan wedding while tacos and margaritas are a must for a beach wedding in Mexico! Carefully consider the decor as well. It may be a competing look to bring florals that aren’t seasonal to that region of the world. Think about options that are local to the given area. You’ll be surprised at how much you can save when you don’t have to import a specific floral varietal across the world!

2. Remember Time Differences

As a Los Angeles-based wedding planner, I’m a bit spoiled. Everyone here is at the top of their game. Vendors are accessible through all communication platforms. An email is usually responded to within 24 hours! I remember reaching out to a Brazilian planner, who was one of the best in the industry. I was a bit concerned when a week went by before I received a short message back saying simply “Just call”. Don’t be surprised if the style and timing of communication varies when you reach out to vendors in different parts of the world.

However, to compensate, you and your planner need to get started on tasks earlier rather than later, to account for the lag in reply times. The same goes when you are actually in the country. Late shuttle pickup? Very possible. The driver is probably lingering over his espresso. Remember, it’s enchanting over there for a reason.

3. Consider Ease of Travel

Try and pick a venue about an hour or less from a city or airport to make your wedding easier to get to. This is not mandatory of course, but your guests will appreciate it so much! If you fall in love with a grassy field hours away from civilization, have at it. Just keep in mind that a portion of your guest count is going to drop when they hear of the epic commute.

Traveling by plane is already an odyssey for most guests. Adding over an hour car ride or train from the airport, and your guests may feel grumpy and fatigued. If you do some thorough venue research you will find that there are plenty of gorgeous and remote looking places within that hour drive from a local city or airport.

4. Budget for Travel, Meals, and Accommodations

Most vendors you want to work with will love to travel to be a part of your wedding. Contractually they will need travel, meals, and accommodation expenses added to their cost of service. This can really add up! The bulk of their business will likely be in a more metropolitan area, so the further you push out from that radius, the more cash you will have to drop to get them out there. The same may go for your guests. Are you assisting any of your family members or wedding party with their journey out to witness your vows? If so, do your research and account for it all. These costs all make a big impact on the overall wedding budget.

5. Reward the Journey

Just think, if you were a wedding guest receiving a pretty little Save-the-Date to hop on a plane to one of the world’s hot spots one year from now, how would you prepare? I know I’d be planning all year to make THAT my big trip with paid vacation time. Make the experience memorable and plan events for the whole weekend if your budget allows. Try to have a welcome reception, an activity somewhere in between their extended stay, and a post-wedding brunch. There are inexpensive ways to get a group together, like going on a guided walking tour with a knowledgeable local or dropping by a vineyard for wine tasting.

6. Welcome to the Weekend

After a long journey, finding a welcome bag and handwritten note in your room from the couple is such a nice way to kick things off. Fill the bag with destination-specific items that they can use during the weekend (like sunglasses and sunscreen for a beach wedding) or opt for a gift that comes from the region. Something edible is always appreciated too, especially if it’s something sourced locally, like French macarons in Paris.

Make sure not to put anything in the bag that will be difficult to carry home, like a huge bottle of olive oil since your guest might have brought a carry-on! And while you may have already included itinerary information on a wedding website or invite, your guests may appreciate having a printed itinerary so they know where they need to be and when!

7. Get it in Writing

All is fine and dandy until you get on site hours before your wedding, and the chairs are not what you discussed, nor the seemingly subtle sign for the out of order “toilette”. Contracts are a big deal in the United States, but even more so overseas. Nothing is a guarantee unless you have it in writing, especially with the possible language barrier between the couple and the vendors. Still a bit unsure? Purchase wedding insurance to cover yourselves in case of any mishaps.

This Springtime Engagement Session is Why We Love New York

Something magical happens every April in New York when dirty gray snow melts away to reveal blossoming trees and budding flowers. It’s absolutely enchanting, and lucky for you, Still55 Photography was able to capture that magic in Samantha and Taylor’s NYC engagement session. In white separates and a well-fitted suit, the Bride and Groom-to-be look hopelessly chic in some of Manhattan’s most picturesque spots. See all the pretty moments in The Vault!

From Still55 PhotographySamantha and Taylor knew they wanted their engagement photos to capture everything they love about home. Their neighborhood in Greenwich, the quite side streets in the Village, the lively sights and sounds of Washington Square and the Spring beauty of Central Park. We knew right away that capturing these images would include everything we love about portrait work. Authentic images captured in a refined way. The day itself set the tone for what was ahead. Perfect temps and not a cloud in the sky. After Samantha and Taylor showed us around the Village we headed to 72nd West to take in the beauty of Sheep’s Meadow, The Mall, and the full bloom of Cherry Blossoms in the warm light of Spring. This Spring Romance in the City captured exactly what they wanted in their images. Authentic love and joy coupled with the City that will always hold a special place in their hearts.

An Engagement Straight Out Of “Sleepless in Seattle”

Remember that final scene in Sleepless in Seattle when Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan meet at the top of the Empire State Building? They share an epic moment that can only be described as one of the dreamiest meetings ever, and this Rock Center engagement session? Well, it’s managed to capture that movie-worthy romance to a T. Oliver Fly Photography, job well done!

From the Bride-to-be…We first met at Dream Downtown. A French group was hosting pool parties every Tuesday during the summer. Despite working late most nights, I committed to going to every-single-one that summer. Benoît came the second to last week, I was out with friends, Benoît saw me, but was to shy to say hello. We were introduced the week after, the very last pool party of the summer. Ben asked for a date the following week and we have been together ever since.

About the proposal – we planned a long trip back to Paris to visit with Benoît’s family. He had spent the prior months secretly researching rings, had found the perfect one, and was ready to propose. After a week of wine tasting and château hoping in the Loire Valley, Benoît popped the question on a rowboat at the romantic Château Chenonceau!

We are getting married this summer in France in the Loire Valley at Le Chateau St Julien in the village of St Julien de l’Ars, near from the ancient city of Poitiers. This venue is the ideal setting for a destination wedding. The most important part of our wedding was to have both of our French and American families together. Having the wedding in France meant that Benoît’s grandfather would be with us.

We fell in love with the Loire Valley the year before during our engagement trip and decided that would be a lovely location for our wedding. With exactly room for 50, Chateau St Julien is perfect to host all of our combined family for four days of wedding festivities!

We found Oliver while we were researching our chateau, his work is soft and absolutely romantic. After reserving the Chateau St Julien, we immediately contacted him to photograph our wedding day. A few months later, Oliver was with us in New York City and we got the opportunity to know each other and to have a fantastic time during our engagement session. Oliver put us completely at ease.

It is impossible to tell by how flawless his photos are – but it was about 40 degrees and raining the whole day – he was absolutely committed to getting every shot on film, such an incredible challenge. He even made time for a few iPhone shots that we could share with our families. Spending time with Oliver before our wedding was absolutely priceless, we can’t wait to have him there to document our day in exactly 2 months!

Wedding Dress Secrets from Hollywood’s Hottest Celebrity Stylist

Lupita Nyong’o. Michelle Dockery. Olivia Munn. Besides being gorgeous Hollywood stars, the one thing these women all have in common is being styled by the one and only Micaela Erlanger. She’s responsible for some of the most iconic red carpet looks of the past few years (when Lupita channeled Cinderella? All Micaela) and likens her experience picking out gowns for celebrities’ most important occasions to picking out a wedding gown for a every woman’s most important day. We caught up with the bubbly brunette at Pronovias‘ NYC Flagship to get her tips and tricks to look like a star on your big day!

You’ve styled some of our favorite red carpet moments — what do you look for in a gown and how do your clients know when you’ve found “the one?”

Well, there’s always that “Aha!” moment and I think it’s the same thing when you find your wedding dress, which is why I’m so thrilled to partner with Pronovias because for me the whole experience of picking out your gown for one of your most important red carpet moments is the same as picking out a gown for your most momentous occasion: your wedding. You generally try on a lot of different things. You probably try on a bunch of things you don’t like, too. You take those off. But when you find the one, you know — there’s a feeling. It’s that “Aha!” I can’t describe it more than just that.

Like you said, a wedding, like a red carpet,is a momentous occasion. Are there any things you need to keep in mind when dressing for a milestone like that?

Comfort! My goodness, you’re in this gown all night long. Same thing I tell my clients, you better be able to dance, sweat, cry, have fun. You’re in that dress and you have to love what you have on. You have to be comfortable and you have to be confident. If you’re not confident, it’s going to show. It’s going to show in pictures. It’s going to show in the way you walk. It’s going to show in the way you talk. You can’t have that nervousness in addition to everything else on the big day.

What are some of your favorite trends in bridal fashion right now?

I’m loving the various detachable elements. I think versatility is something the modern bride really looks for. I also have to comment that pockets are useful! And I love seeing these fuller silhouettes that give you that playfulness and certainly handy, that’s for sure. And I love that lace is having a comeback in a different way, the more sort of romantic feeling tiered bits that Pronovias has showcased, that real Spanish influence is so beautiful and so feminine.

Who are some of your favorite celebrity brides?

Amal Clooney and Kate Middleton. And, you’ve got to give credit to Angelina Jolie for going out there and doing something so personal and special to her because it’s your moment and why not do what you want? Also, Kate Moss — her dress was so ethereal and vintage-inspired and I love that.

What’s the best way to approach accessories?

I think once you’ve chosen your dress, that’s when accessories come in. It’s really about punctuating the look and it’s really about accenting with the right piece — that’s the frosting on the cake.

What are your thoughts on a veil?

I love it! I just love something in the hair, so you can be a veil girl, or you can not be, both are equally beautiful, but don’t be afraid to try a different accessory if a veil isn’t right for you — a headband or a little piece of net over the eye can be really subtly beautiful, even a little sexy if that’s the vibe you’re going for, but a cathedral length veil with a raw edge or something with a little bit of lace, more traditional, are all beautiful options. But, don’t overcomplicate your look. If you have a really beautiful open-back detail, I’d go for something that’s not going to compete with that. And if you’re going for something that’s all-over lace, perhaps you choose a simpler veil. It’s about the balance, the juxtaposition between your accessories and your gown.

When it comes to shoes, what should a bride look for?

This is a tip I give all of my clients on the carpet as well, you’re not going to see the shoe, so make sure that you’re comfortable, make sure that you can walk in your gown and at the very least, if you want to wear something special, have a backup pair. You want to dance, you want to have fun, you don’t want to worry about having your feet hurt.

5 Reasons to Add this Colorful City to Your Travel Wish List

We talk about a ‘pop of color’ all the time in weddings, home and fashion. But travel? I don’t think we’ve ever featured a mini guide as hue-happy as this one. Captured by Studio Finch, Cartagena is just the destination you should look into if you’re craving a dose of color. Studio Finch is giving us a head start with these 5 must-do’s!

From Studio FinchCartagena, Colombia is one of the most amazing hidden gems I’ve ever seen! It’s an adorable walled city port town, filled with color and lush flowers everywhere. Caratagena is located on the northern coast of Colombia, filled with cobblestone streets and colorful stucco buildings from the 16th century. Everywhere you look, there is a pop of color, hat and fruit salesmen. Out of all of the amazing things to do and see in Cartagena, here is the list of recommendations I was able to narrow down.

Ceviche

It’s a must! Cartagena is an old pirate port town, and with that comes the most delicious raw seafood in citrus juices. You can get it at just about any restaurant, or ceviche truck. To go for authentic, go for the ceviche trucks!

Go for a stroll on the walls surrounding the walled city.

Parts of Cartagena’s walled city has portions of it which you can walk on. The best time of day to go for a stroll on the historic wall is just before sunset. You can have the amazing opportunity to watch the colors in the sky change as the sun goes down.

Watch the traditional perform at night at Plaza de Bolivar.

Another bonus, it’s free to watch! The plaza is filled with young couples dressed in traditional outfits. The dances have so much energy, and also tell a story.

Enjoy a beer on the wall at sunset.

At El Baluarte Tasca-bar, on the South Eastern part of the wall, you can enjoy a beer while listening to the live music in a wooden adirondack chair.

See the arches Torre del Reloj.

Not too far from El Baluarte Tasca-bar you can wander around the square and see the historic arches. The beautiful arched gate walks you into Plaza de la Aduana.

There are so many things to do, and so much color to take in that I highly recommend seeing this beautiful town for yourself. Fun touristy tip: check out the Russian themed bar! It’s on the NorthWest corner of the Plaza Fernández de Madrid.
