You’d Never Believe This Gorgeous Day Was Their Backup Rain Plan

No Bride dreams of rain on her wedding day, even if it is supposed to be a sign of good luck. And, unfortunately, as David Pressman Events LLC says “wedding designers and planners can’t control weather.” So, when the forecast called for rain, this amazing team of vendors (including Bob Gail Special Events, Premiere Party Rents, Images by LightingLilla Bellocopper willow paper studioContemporary Catering and Event Production and The Butter End Cakery) came together to make sure Plan B was as spectacular as could be. See it all from Next Exit Photography and Film Foto Fusion in The Vault!

From David Pressman Events… The last several shots (in the Vault gallery) are from my iPhone during the set-up which happened during those freak thunderstorms last May and are great fun because they show the blank canvas of the Garden lawn at Saddlerock and the various stages of the main tent going up as the weather turned against us.

The chances of rain in Southern California in mid-May average about 9% as the month starts and taper off to about 5% by the end of the month, so it’s pretty safe to plan an outdoor wedding without much worry. But any good Wedding Planner will be checking weather reports at least a month before an outdoor wedding after already having studied rain averages for previous years months and months before the actual wedding date. So regardless of what month your client wants their outdoor wedding & depending on where in the greater LA area (because it can be raining in West Hollywood and blue skies in Malibu), communicating with them regularly about the chances of rain is so important. Since Wedding Designers and Planners can’t control weather – despite what some clients may expect – a rain plan is always something to have in your back pocket, especially with the kooky weather here in SoCA. And even then, we can’t really get a handle on what is forecast until ten days out and then, like most of my colleagues, I will check as many different weather forecasts as possible literally every hour and more the closer we are to the actual start of installing a wedding.

No client wants to hear that rain is forecast the week of their wedding. And no Wedding Planner wants to tell them, but managing expectations is a huge part of our job along with being completely honest about what the options are so that months of design work and planning aren’t tossed aside at the last minute. Hence the rain plan. And this wedding had many moving parts, from shuttling the guests on arrival at the Vineyard to the ceremony site at the beautiful Chateau Le Dome (accessible only via a windy and bumpy gravel road) with Million Dollar views, to then shuttling all 150 guests to Camp Cabernet, about a 5 minute drive away on the property and equally difficult to access by any vehicle larger than the Vineyard shuttle, especially if the roads and grounds were going to be wet.

So with a smile on my face I went to see my clients at their home in West Hollywood, where they have a home in addition to their primary residence in Hong Kong, where they had arrived from just days before. And with family and guests already arriving from around the world, they really didn’t want to believe that it would rain on their wedding day and I couldn’t blame them one bit. I had worked closely with the owner of Premiere Party Rents – a trusted colleague who was suppling not just the tables, chairs, china, glassware and a variety of furniture and other items, but also building an onsite kitchen for our caterer, Contemporary Catering, to prepare the food for Cocktail Hour and a sit-down multi-course dinner for 150 guests – to prepare a rain plan for both locations that wouldn’t send the budget into the stratosphere. And I was also prepared with a suggestion to move Cocktail Hour and everything else to a different location at the Vineyard, the beautiful Garden area immediately adjacent to the home of Saddlerock’s owner, Ron Semler. In fact I had already negotiated a heavily discounted rate for this last minute switch, with his blessing, because he knew it was going to rain and that the rain, anytime during the week of the wedding, would be potentially dangerous for not just the wedding guests but also for his employees and all of the vendors who were involved with helping to create the magical wedding the bride had trusted me to design. The new location was easier for everything involved and also on a flatter and far more majestic setting that also boasted the presence of Stanley, Saddlerock’s resident giraffe.

I also had lined up two new vendors that would be instrumental in making all of this happen, Images by Lighting to install over a thousand feet of string lighting for inside the 50’ x 135’ clear top tent, along with pathway lighting for multiple areas outside the tent, and Mike Shauger and his Designing Life team to drape & swag the interior of the tent along with creating a fabric wall that would be drawn back to reveal the dinner and dancing area after guests finished Cocktail Hour.

All of this was happening on Tuesday with guests prepared to arrive at Saddlerock that Friday afternoon come rain or shine. My clients had lots of questions, as well they should have, as we talked about the options of not implementing the rain plan, staying with their original location for everything after the ceremony, or moving everything, including the ceremony to the sprawling lawns by the Main House. Chateau Le Dome is truly a beautiful spot for a ceremony and my clients had fallen in love with it the year before and decided that even if it rained on that Friday, they didn’t want to give up the intimate setting and incredible views that their guests would enjoy. With a short ceremony planned, the thought of a little rain (and lots of umbrella’s if needed) was perfectly acceptable and for many a sign of good luck. Understanding how much easier it would be to move to the new site, they gave me the go ahead to make the changes needed and put the rain plan into effect.

I found a wonderful vendor in Denver, Splendor For Your Guests, who was able to overnight boxes of white 16-panel umbrella’s to have on hand for the wedding party (many of whom had relocated to a rented home in Malibu where other events were planned), the wedding rehearsal and of course the guests on the wedding day. Tents were loaded onto Premiere’s trucks almost immediately (Sandy, Premiere’s owner, was literally got ten phone calls that day from Planners with weddings scheduled for that weekend) for installation to begin Wednesday morning, Mike from Designing Life went to downtown LA to purchase fabric for the tent interior. By Wednesday morning, after speaking with the Photographer, the Caterer and the company supplying a String Trio for the ceremony, a Jazz Quintet for cocktails and a full band for dancing, I was able to reach out to all of the vendors with a new layout that took into account how I wanted to divide the tent, where the stage & dance floor would go and how the bar would help divide the area along with a new timeline for installation and delivery of everything from flowers and furniture to candles and the custom made cake that incorporated the clients’ pets, Bernard the bunny and their dog Indy, with a few added surprises.

As the tents began to go up Wednesday morning it started to rain lightly, and fortunately the rain held off long enough for Premiere Party Rents to get the 50’ x 135’ tent up moments before the skies just opened and it began to pour for hours.

To their credit, the clients were calm and trusted me completely that I would deliver on my promise that everything they wanted and had planned for would be perfect inside the tent. And on Thursday, as it rained on and off, we were able to get the kitchen set up, the lighting installed and the tent draping completed as tables and chairs were put in place as the entire team worked well into the night.

And while the wedding rehearsal was a bit wet, the bridal party was in high spirits and didn’t let the rain dampen any of the celebratory activities that were planned before the wedding day.

Friday morning greeted us with grey skies and the threat of more rain. But as the bridesmaids were getting their hair and makeup done, the sky slowly began to change colors. And just a few hours before guests were to arrive at Saddlerock, we were able to remove the plastic sheets that had been covering the ceremony chairs at Chateau Le Dome and the Lilla Bello team was able to complete the installation of florals for the ceremony while Contemporary Catering was able to set up for pre-ceremony beverages and added tray passed hors d’oeuvre’s for post-ceremony to keep guests occupied while the shuttles would transport them in groups to the Main House area for Cocktail Hour and the rest of the evening.

As the Bride and her father made their way from the Chateau to the rose bush lined ceremony site for the ceremony, the final clouds mixed with a picture perfect beautiful blue sky and the groom was heard to say that it was his beautiful wife-to-be that had brought the sun out for their wedding day…

Not a drop of rain fell after morning, and as the afternoon turned into magic hour and then to night, this beautifully lit and decorated tent – with string lights above, pillar candles on the tables & bars and fabric fluttering in the breeze – looked as if it had always been planned. With everyone dancing the night away no one ever remembered the rain that had stopped falling that very morning.

Without clients who understood the importance of implementing the rain plan and a truly great team to make it all happen, this story would have had a far different ending.

This Vera Wang Gown Will Take Your Breath Away

There are wedding gowns, and then there is this stunning work of art from Vera Wang – a gown sooo incredibly gorgeous, I.can’t.stop.staring.  It’s the perfect complement to a breathtaking Bride who also happens to know a thing or two about throwing an amazing, love-filled wedding.  Black Sheep Filmworks captured every moment beautifully and it’s sooo worth your time to PRESS PLAY.

From Black Sheep Filmworks… When I first met Jody, I knew she was a black sheep filmworks’ bride. Her style was modern, hip and effortless. Her wedding ideas, so full of Spanish flair, made me swoon. I was a filmmaker, on a mission. Literally, I was on a mission to San Xavier del Bac Catholic Mission, where Jody and Chuck were to say “I do.” I’ve been filming weddings for a while, and I have NEVER filmed at San Xavier. It’s stunning, historic, spiritual… people come from all over the world to stand within its thick adobe walls, surrounded by dazzling colors of the paintings, carvings, frescoes and statues. Its rich ornamentation displays a mixture of New Spain and Native American artistic motifs. To say I was excited for this day to come is, well, an understatement.

Jody and Chuck’s celebration started at the gorgeous Tubac Golf Resort and Spa in Tubac, Arizona. Bridal preparations were in full swing, the sun was shining and the wedding party was energetically prepping for this beautiful September affair . Jody is a jewelry designer, with her work gracing glossy magazine covers, many an elite website “must haves”, and with a celebrity clientele. Each of the bridal party members wore one of her gorgeous custom pieces, from the bridesmaid’s cuff bracelets, to the groomsmen’s cuff links and bolo ties. A short drive up the road led to the Mission San Xavier del Bac, known as the “White Dove of the Desert”. A National Historic landmark, founded as a Catholic mission by Father Kino in 1692, it is an exceptional wedding location. Surrounded by family and friends, Father Steve joined them as husband and wife in a ceremony full of tradition and joy.

Guests then headed back to the Tubac Golf Resort and Spa to celebrate the beautiful couple. Mariachis, Dos Equis and Prima wine welcomed everyone to the perfect al fresco venue to gather and celebrate. The reception under the stars was elegantly set up with long, wooden tables topped with novena candles, lace table clothes and lovely bold floral arrangements. The floral design was an elegant, spicy “ode to Spain” with a mix of hydrangea, roses, and day lilies. The Blue Breeze band from LA had everyone dancing, an impromptu limbo contest was had, and Chuck serenaded Jody from the stage with his rendition of “You are the Best thing” by Ray LaMontagne.

They had a grand exit under a shower of sparklers… but they didn’t stop partying! They headed straight to the Stables bar, on the resort property, and mingled with family and friends until the wee hours. My mission to the mission, and then some, was complete.

A Sequined Showstopper Celebration in the Woods

If you thought getting married in the forest meant you had to forgo sequins, think again because this stunner of a soiree is here to prove otherwise. Complete with elegant details, a wooded ceremony, and a few sequined bridesmaids’ for good measure, Amanda K Photography was on hand to capture it all and we’ve got it waiting for you to favorite in The Vault!

From The Bride…I love how clean black and white is, and I love mixed metal. We knew we wanted to get married outdoors, and ideally a destination. In the end we decided to stay in the country close to home, but chose to get married near Bend, in Sisters, due to our love for the area and how beautiful it is over there. The rustic outdoor space was a perfect contrast to the black, white, and mixed metal theme.

The flowers were all white and sat in clear vases with mixed metal candles and smaller vases as an accent. We had another venue booked that backed out 5 months before the wedding, and Five Pine happened to have an opening on the original date of our wedding! We toured the next weekend, and fell in love with the grounds. They were breathtaking in the summer with the tall wild flowers and stream that ran through the wedding site.

Unless you having a backyard wedding, get a wedding coordinator. Will relieve so much stress, and they get so much done for you and make your special day go so smooth. Make sure you choose one from word of mouth. We saw what Misty did at our good friends Darrin and Hanna’s wedding the year before, and never even considered anyone else!

Cotton Candy Sky Engagement Session

Jee and Paul pretty much had the best engagement session of all time. Reason being, the sky literally lit up in a multitude of colors resembling everyone’s favorite thing: cotton candy. From there Shaw Events orchestrated all the beauty and Simply Lace Photography was on hand to captured it all. See all the sweetness first hand via The Vault!

From Shaw EventsWhen Jee and Paul expressed they wanted a romantic, ethereal engagement session – I had to take the opportunity to bring some incredible vendors along for the ride. Getting my inspiration from Catherine Langlois ‘Sanja’ Gown, we chose the shoreline of the Scarborough Bluffs as our backdrop. Bloom and Co created a bouquet of seasonal and lush florals, including the most beautiful tulips I had ever seen. Adding a few extra pieces, like the handmade hair piece from frilly bits, the beautifully scripted calligraphy love note from All Things Lovely Paper Co, and some Stella and Dot earrings just brought everything together. When Bruna of Simply Lace Photography arrived to the shoot with Jee and Paul, the cotton candy sky was waiting for her, and she created magic. Taking the time to style your engagement session is worth it, and these results are a testament to that statement.

These Mismatched Maids are the Prettiest You’ll Ever See

Think mismatched maids are on their way out? Think again, loves, because this is a trend that is here.to.stay. And when paired with a stunning Chicago affair that marries classic + industrial stylings? Ohhhh-so-chic.  From the breathtaking decor from Anna Held Floral Studio to the fab paper goods from Minted, see it all captured by Kate Weinstein right here in THE VAULT.

From the Bride… When we started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted a venue that was equally edgy and cozy. We loved the aesthetic and simplicity of high ceilings and exposed brick, paired with greenery and neutral flowers. We immediately fell in love with Ravenswood Event Center, it had the perfect look & feel.

It was very important that the wedding felt distinctly “us,” and this really came through in the details. We brought in Andrew’s love of music, our appreciation for fantastic food, and a warm inviting environment. We also got creative in capturing the little moments by setting up a couple vintage Polaroid cameras. Guests took pictures of themselves and each other, and signed the film. These pictures are some of our most special memories from the wedding.

We kept the color palette neutral and romantic with cream linens, off-white + blush flowers, mercury glass, and lots of votives to bring in warm natural light. Andrew’s groomsmen wore classic tuxedos, and the bridesmaids wore an eclectic mix of neutral dresses.

We were so happy with the end result! The wedding truly felt like the best expression of our relationship.

What’s Black, White and Chic All Over? This Wedding Inspiration Shoot

If ever there was a color palette that evoked instant glamour, it would be black and white. And this Willowdale Estate inspiration shoot from Annmarie Swift Photography and Always Yours Events is oozing with glamour, elegance and sophistication. From the Amanda Day Rose Paperie invites to the Maid of Honor’s chic jumpsuit, the monochromatic details of this shoot prove that black and white will never go out of style. See it all in The Vault!

From Always Yours Events… When Annmarie Swift and I dreamt up this styled inspiration shoot, our goal was to create a fine art design both “classic and charming” within an intimate, romantic space! Willowdale Estate’s black and white private dining room filled with a plethora of gorgeous natural light was an absolute perfect fit for this design, and it’s decor really provided us with so much inspiration. To create a softened, romantic look we incorporated a lovely dove gray shade into the classic black and white color palette and tied in accents of gold. The custom fine art invitation suite by Amanda Day Rose set the tone, from the deckled edges to hand drawn sketch of the Willowdale Estate to the soft gray envelopes sealed with a white heirloom wax seal. For the tablescape, I wanted to again create a design that was utterly charming and intimate, and so we set one large guest table down the center of the room with matte white embossed linens and stone washed Louis chairs from Be Our Guest. Each place setting was set with the loveliest details such as custom gray linen napkins tied with soft white hand dyed silk ribbons, deckled edge menus and escort cards calligraphed with gorgeous brush script by Becca Joas and matte gold tapered candlesticks.

An abundance of gorgeous florals in shades of white, cream and barely blush by Poppies transformed the dining room into such an enchanting space! Rory Weinberg created statement arrangements composed within matte black pedestal bowls with overflowing greenery and blooms, again combining classic with charming. Delicate smilax vines were lightly strewn through the dining room’s chandelier, and a smilax and white clematis garland was draped over bride and groom’s chairs.

The bridal party attire was hands down a favorite detail. Our stunning bride wore a Lis Simon peplum gown with a breathtaking soft and ethereal tulle skirt from Your Dream Bridal, along with elegant pumps with chic white bows by Bella Belle Shoes. And our beautiful maid of honor added a little sass in a black v-neck jumpsuit. Statement garden bouquets of soft white blooms and spring textures gathered with lovely ribbons by Ruffled Lane completed the look oh so perfectly.

What I truly loved most about this fine art design was that it was a timeless look that could work beautifully any space, whether it be an intimate private dining room to a sailcloth tent on a private estate. This inspiration shoot and vendor team was an absolute dream, and this design will forever be an AYE favorite!

Bacon + Bourbon Make This Southern Affair All the More Memorable

Sweet southern sizzle this wedding is everything. For not only did this pair plan one heck of a celebration, they also made sure guests were well equipped to carry on the fun throughout the night. Translation: A passed hors-d’oeuvre consisting of bacon paired with single barrel bourbon. If that doesn’t get your heart racing then maybe all the stunning captures from Austin Gros in The Vault will do the trick!

From The Bride…Where do you have a wedding when the bride grew up in Maryland, the groom New York, and they are currently settling in Los Angeles.  You dig for roots…

We planned a Tennessee wedding after relocating to from New York City to Los Angeles.  We were drawn to Middle Tennessee for our wedding as I spent many spring vacations from elementary and middle school visiting relatives and family friends in Franklin – rollerblading through town, movies at the Franklin Theater, and listening to seemingly endless family stories – as my dad wanted me and my sister to experience a little of our Tennessee roots.

It wasn’t hard to sell Matt on the idea of a Tennessee wedding as few of our New York friends and Matt’s family had ever visited Nashville and he knew it would be fun for them to experience someplace new.   My easiest wedding decision was where to have the reception.   Carnton was in my blood – literally, as I am a lineal descendent of Randal and Sarah McGavock, who built the home.   Actually, as delineated in the “father of the bride” speech, our wedding reception is the first family wedding celebration held at Carnton since January 3, 1884, 131 years ago.  Also, there were more direct McGavock descendants at Carnton that May 9th evening than at any other time since the house was built in 1826.

Most importantly, this was a magical evening for us, complete with a surprise ice-breaker for all the guests, Tennessee Moonshine.   The photographs capture the wedding spirit, complete with a bride and groom dance-off and yes, even doing “The Worm” on the dance floor.   Matt’s reaction early the next morning as he slowly, oh ever so slowly, eased himself into his now father-in-laws car: “That party was the best night of my life”.

It was very important to us that our wedding feel relaxed and not formal.  On a night when all eyes were on us, we felt incredibly comfortable and relaxed.  I credit this because we didn’t feel like we had to adjust how we acted due to the wedding, the wedding adjusted to us and our energy set the tone.  We were 100% ourselves that night, just as everyones wedding should be.  We made the decision to have our wedding party photos taken at Carnton before the ceremony.  This turned out to be crucial as we were able then to be present for and enjoy every minute of the reception.  While there were 250 people there, it still managed to feel like one tight-knit gathering.

A Soap Opera Star’s Wedding That’s Better Than Any Daytime TV Love Story

While there’s no doubt that this Bride’s beauty will catch your attention, there’s something else about her that struck me immediately. You see, I grew up watching Days of our Lives and this here is none other than Nadia Bjorlin aka Chloe Lane. And I now adore her even more after reading her love story that’s so much better than any soap opera plot line out there. Sarah Kate captured her and her Irish Groom’s special day creating a Vault gallery that sparkles – see it all here!

From the Groom… Nadia and Grant met by shear and utter chance! Grant was scheduled to go to New York the day before Valentines Day when his Virgin America flight was cancelled due to the Polar Vortex in 2014. A last minute call came in for Grant to host a Valentines Day dinner in the Hollywood Hills. Nadia, who was the best friend with the owner of the house, was spending her first Valentines Day single for over eight years. While at the Valentines party, Nadia just so happened to bump right into Grant. As the night went on, Grant was struck by her shear beauty and literally felt like it was love at first sight. After a short conversation and a few cocktails, Grant asked where Nadia was from and what she did in the city (Nadia plays Chloe on “Days of Our Lives” which never aired in Ireland, where Grant is from, so he had no idea who she was). Once Grant realized Nadia was Swedish he spoke to her in the language, as he spent six months in architecture school in the south of Sweden, and this only made the immediate connection stronger! Long story short, Grant asked Nadia to unlock her phone as he “wanted to show her something” and then added his number to her phone and texted himself Nadia’s number. One week later they went on a date, three months later they moved in together. Grant took Nadia to an Irish Childrens charity event where the main prize for the raffle was a trip to Ireland. Grant purchased two raffle tickets and miraculously won! In August, Grant took Nadia home to meet his family. They traveled to the north coast where all of the “Game of Thrones” scenes are shot and sat on the edge of the Giants Causeway, a nature reserve in Northern Ireland. In one fell swoop he whipped out a ring and confessed his undying love to Nadia and his desire to be with her forever and have lots of babies! Grant and Nadia tied the knot in Palm Springs at the beautiful Colony 29 compound. The ceremony was under a beautiful arch surrounded by friends and family in the garden and the reception was close by under a beautiful tent!

The greatest part of the day for the couple was seeing everyone at the dinner from Sweden, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, the US, and even Africa. The environment at Colony 29 is that of a dream – Wolfgang Puck cooked an incredible meal for all. But most important was the look on their faces when they knew they both found each other and vowed their love in front of friends and family.

Take Your Mornings from Exhausted to Energized with a Dream Coffee Bar

A coffee bar is still on my someday dream home list. But in the meantime, I’ll be here drooling over the Waiting on Martha Team’s Caffeine Fueling Station. It’s a mix of coffee accoutrements and super cute details styled to perfection by Mandy Kellog Rye. And one that is sure to be the heart of the office or home. Take the grand tour captured by Rustic White Photography in the VAULT.

From Waiting on Martha… When designing our new Waiting on Martha Team office, it was simple to design the easy-on-the-eye aesthetics. But what about the practical we’re-getting-sh**-done-here part of the space? We needed a working kitchenette that doubles as a tech/printer storage solution to keep things organized, and we DEFINITELY needed a coffee bar to kickstart our mornings and of course close out our days with wine. But the real catch; I didn’t have a big budget for all of those needs.

To stick to the budget I journeyed to Lowe’s and found a wardrobe, bathroom vanity unit and simple white wall shelving that I DIY’d to create the kitchenette you see now. I drilled holes in the back for all our tech chords and switched out the handles brass versions which gave the unit a bit more pizazz. The wardrobe, part of the Allen + Roth organizational line, does a great job housing our office printer, mode, phone, etc. and is easy on the eye because it blends in completely with the space.

On top of the kitchenette (and all around the office) I added woven baskets to stash stuff. Baskets are one of my favorite ways to add warmth to a space and hide and/or store anything you don’t want just lying around.

Lastly, our office French press and all of our coffee accompaniments live nice and organized on the “bathroom vanity” beside it, (to my immense delight, having our office at ADAC allows me to use hot, steaming water at a snap of a finger for my French press coffee…#gamechanger!). I even used the drawer to hold all of our coffee and entertaining extras.

Above the “bathroom vanity” I installed two simple floating bookshelves (which perfectly align with the popular open shelving trend) to hold our mugs, water, water bottles by Ashley Brooke Designs, bowls, glasses and favorite King Bean coffee. This is probably the absolute easiest shelving option to install; I got mine from Lowe’s, but Target, Ikea and West Elm sell a variety of options at different price points. Just pull out your level and hang them on the wall with brackets.

Lastly, since I segmented the large office space into several separate vignettes, I knew I wanted to create an inviting area for members of the team to meet over coffee. The corner, however, is on the smaller side, so I turned to this skinny marble top console table to serve as our bar, with two white cafe stools. This is where I did splurge and spend the majority of my budget because I knew—just like a home’s kitchen—this space would end up being the heart of the office. A place where we’d sit, plan, gab, and enjoy our beloved coffee and wine. And it’s marble, so duh. The end result? A chic, functional corner to share all of our brilliant ideas.

Sweet + Simple Island Wedding With a Touch of Teal

Sometimes all you need is a the tiniest touch of color is all you need to completely transform your wedding palette, and for this sweet St. Simon’s celebration a little pop of teal did just the trick. See all the pretty through Kylie Martin’s lens and head to the The Vault to keep the color crushing going.

From Kylie Martin PhotographyKatie and Kyle gathered their friends and family on the beautiful island of St. Simon on a warm summer afternoon. Katie’s personality and hand were involved in every immaculate detail of the day. They created a relaxed environment filled with beautiful tones and intricate details. The color palette played off of the giant trees that cascade over the venue property. The primary focus of their day was to create lasting memories and beautiful experience from start to finish for their guests. The day was filled with stunning light and laughter with friends and the evening was spent dancing to a live band as the sun set over the marsh. Katie and Kyle created a day full of love that was an absolute reflection of them as a couple, by focusing on the experience they were able to enjoy their day and absorb it fully.

This Destination Wedding is the Best Thing You’ll See All Day

Not every happily ever after begins with fireworks. Sometimes it starts as a casual meeting between waitress and customer, develops into a years-long friendship and turns into something more when you least expect it.  Such is the case with these sweeties, who celebrated their true life fairytale with a wedding in paradise at Dreams La Romana. Think seaside nuptials meets a non-stop celebration under the stars. See it all captured by The Veil Wedding Photography in THE VAULT.

From the Groom… Did you ever hear the story of the good friends that eventually fell in love and got married? It’s a story we’ve all seen and heard. A story we’ve all wished we were a part of. Not all of us are lucky enough to have their wish come true. How I got so lucky I will never know. She was a waitress at a little hole in the wall, I was a frequent customer.

I won’t pretend there was an instant attraction, maybe not for her anyway, I can’t even say we became instant friends. I would say it was my humor, or at least what I perceived to be humor, and her unwillingness to be anybody but herself pulled us together. Our relationship over the next couple of years which started off as server and customer began to expand beyond the walls of our little hole in the wall. Then… at some point we became single at the same time and boom! Magic. That’s how I’m going to tell the story anyway. We both have our versions of who was the one who caused the other to fall in love. I can tell you though, I was the first one to say it.

We didn’t have the normal getting to know each other honeymoon period of a relationship. We had known each other for years. It made things simple in a way that I find it hard to put into words. We had gotten past each other’s annoying quirks and didn’t spend so much energy trying to be the person we thought the other wanted. We could just be.

It was during this time when most people are discovering that the person they chose has some rather disturbing habits that we discovered in each other a wanderlust. A need to get out in the world and experience new places and new things. Travel, even small road trips to nowhere towns to see nowhere things, became the thing we looked forward to. It was in this spirit that even our first discussions about marriage we locked onto the idea of a destination wedding. But where to?

I will spare you the details of the months and months of searching and skip right to what I thought was that magical moment when we found our spot. She had always talked about wanting a beach wedding, but not on the beach. She wanted a platform or a dock made of dark wood stretching out over clear turquoise waters. There it was, a picture of the place we would start the next chapter of our lives together. A long pier jutting out into the ocean at Dreams La Romana Resort.

The save the dates went out right away, a website for our wedding went up and the next year flew by. At least that is the story I’m telling. We don’t need to scare any more perspective brides and grooms with the stress of wedding planning. I will tell you that luck struck once again when we found our wedding photographers, or should I say they found us. That is a story for another time though.

Dreams la Romana Resort. What can I say? A beautiful sprawling resort set against the white sand beaches and turquoise waters on the Southern side of the Dominican Republic. You really couldn’t ask for more beautiful scenery for any event.

After spending some time exploring the resort we met with our onsite wedding coordinator. We went through everything rather quickly and I can’t say we felt completely comfortable with handing off our year of planning to someone we just met. Yanna, our coordinator proved our insecurities wrong on several occasions though.

Our wedding weekend started off with a meet and great for our guests in the gardens. It was an event we set up with the resort ahead of time and turned out to be the perfect. Small white tables set in the grass near one of the many gazebos with a backdrop of palm trees and flowers. After the planning phase the resort took care of everything making it not only a beautiful gathering, but stress free. It was really our first chance to take a breath and enjoy our guests and each other inside the beauty of the Dominican.

Then comes the wedding day. The day started early at one of the breakfast buffets on site then Heather and I separated to get moving on the schedule our wonderful photographers set up for us. It never hit me what was actually happening while I was sitting in the coffee shop with my dad waiting for our first look photos. Then I saw her in her dress for the first time. I don’t consider myself much of an emotional person but the rest of the day almost seemed a dream as I was looking at the world through tearful eyes. I know a lot of people say this, but I truly was the luckiest person alive.

I would love to comment on the beauty of the wedding. The care and time that Yanna put into setting up the pier, but all I remember for the rest of the day was her. When we were separated right before the wedding my thoughts were consumed with when I would see her again. Then there she was, walking down the pier to cheers coming from onlookers on the beach. The family, the friends, and her. It was a perfect day.

Once the ceremony was over we took part in a cocktail hour at the end of the pier where hugs, smiles, laughter and tears of joy were on the menu along with the amazing appetizers. The bar tenders at the private bar took time to learn all of our names and by the end of the hour it was as if they were just friends celebrating with us.

Moving down the beach we found ourselves in our own private paradise where a long family style table was set up for all the guests as we shared a meal cooked fresh there on the beach with us. The decorations, the lights, the overall set up was perfect against the setting sun at the edge of the sea. The music started as we ended our meal and we danced well into the night just enjoying the majesty and joy of the day. My mom even managed to pull in several other guests from the resort to join us in our celebration and dancing.

From The Bride…If someone were to ask me my favorite part of the wedding day I don’t think I could pick, I have so many favorites. Getting ready in my gorgeous suite (whose couch was perfect for bridal portrait photos) with the sisters of my heart was beautiful, it truly made me understand how much they loved me and supported my marriage. Trying to take a girls photo while jumping on the bed, an idea that was most definitely a Pinterest fail, but that was hilarious for us. Looking back at the photos of getting ready where all the girls are bunched together I just remember the love and joy that emanated from everyone, that’s one of my favorite memories.

We had the first look with Mike and my dad outside the spa. Somehow our photographers had found the most perfect locations on the large resort in the tiny amount of time they had the night before the wedding. The scenery was unbelievably beautiful, and walking from my room to the spa I was stopped by so many strangers to take a photo or receive well wishes. We did a first look with my dad first and seeing the look on his face was something I’ll never forget. My first look with Mike was so special, but at the time I thought it may make my walk down the aisle less significant since we’d already seen each and cried together, but it was actually just the opposite. The bridal party arrived (slightly late) at the pier and everything was more beautiful that I could’ve imagined. The DJ did an awesome job of queuing the music exactly where it was supposed to be, and when the first notes of “One and Only” by Adele started playing I began my walk to the rest of my life. Seeing my almost-husband at the end of the pier has been one of the most magical moments I’ve ever had, made even more special by the guests in the water cheering as I walked down the aisle. It was an unforgettable day filled with so many favorites and firsts that I’ll treasure forever.

From Allison Kuhn PhotographyThis wedding was a twist of bohemian glam and a fresh theme at The Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. The purples, whites and golds pulled together nicely among Jessica’s tassel chandelier, gemstone invites and abundance of florals styled by Ivy Robinson Events. Jessica and Michael shared exchanged vows that they wrote. Jessica designs, creates and sells jewelry, so incorporating gem stones was an element she really wanted to implement, including on her cake topper. Bohemian Ink collaborated with Ivy Robinson Events to create this bohemian glam theme come to life.

This is the One Thing Your Room is Desperately Missing

Window treatments are an often overlooked but insanely integral piece of the decorating pie. They’re a finishing touch that can totally make a room. That’s where Barn & Willow comes into play. They are a one stop window covering shop that is completely redefining how people buy window draperies and roman shades.  And they’re letting us in on a little secret; the seven reasons you shouldn’t overlook window drapery. Trust us, after this read, you’ll never have naked windows again.

With Barn & Willow, custom stitched drapery has never been more accessible. Starting at just $99, their drapes and roman shades are all made from the finest Belgian linen and bonus! You can order free swatches to help plan out your perfect window moments or rent sample panels for a fully refundable $10. It makes the design process a breeze. Another key component that’s a complete life saver is their Auto Sizing Calculator. Because sizing drapery is hard! Like really hard. But with Barn & Willow’s Auto Sizing Calculator you can easily determine panel width + length without much of the hassle. You can try out their Auto-Sizing calculator by starting to customize your drapery here.

Why Window Treatments are a Game Changer

They pull the room together seamlessly and help unify a color theme. And they’re the key to avoiding an incomplete-looking room.

They make your windows look larger, which is always a good look. To achieve this, we recommend extending the drapery rod to at least 8-10″ on either side of the window. This ensures that when fully opened, your panels sit to the side of the window instead of covering the window. If you have wider wall space on either side, you can extend 8-10″ beyond that as well.

Window treatments give a room visual height and draw attention to the windows, making a room appear larger. We highly recommend them for rooms with a lower ceiling height of 7-8 feet. To achieve this look, try attaching rods at the ceiling line or at least 10-12″ above the window frame.

They soften the decor in a room. Textiles are a great way to add a layer of coziness and texture to a room, as well as create an element of visual interest.

They protect your privacy. This is especially important for rooms that face the street in front of the house. You don’t need to sacrifice sunlight for privacy – just choose sheer or unlined draperies to let the light in.

Lined draperies/shades create a layer of sun blockage which protects other upholstered pieces or darker furniture pieces in the room from fading. From privacy lining to blackout lining, there’s tons of options to ensure that you’ll be able to find the perfect light control for your room.

Is the summer sun waking you up too early? Blackout drapes are the key to fixing that. They’re most popular for bedrooms, TV lounges, and nurseries to provide full sun blockage and to create a room darkening effect.
