A Wedding That’ll Make You Fall in Love With Yellow

Bring together a few of the industry’s very best – looking at you, Kurt Boomer, Lovell Productions, Bows and Arrows, TEAM Hair and Makeup, and Joy Proctor – and you’ll get a wedding that’s worth obsessing over. The couple stepped outside the color trend box and designed a day around a rich, golden hue that beautifully plays off the California light. I’m convinced this gallery is destined to become a fast favorite.

From Kurt BoomerWhen you have such amazing vendors pulled together in a gorgeous location like Napa, it makes a beautiful day all that much better. Bow and Arrows brought a huge pop of color into the landscape which synced perfectly with Written Word’s beautiful calligraphy pieces. Our gorgeous bride Yovannah’s hair and makeup was done by Mar of TEAM Hair and Makeup. Emotions ran high throughout the day. This was a couple that truly had a deep love for each other. Can’t think of a better day to get to photograph.

Designing a Gorgeous Nursery in Six Easy Steps

There are few greater joys in life than starting a family. And while getting ready for that little bundle is a job in and of itself there are certain action items on the to-do list that are also crazy fun. One being the nursery design. Whether you’re a parent-to-be with a pinterest board full of ideas or you have no idea where to start, The Land of Nod is lending a design savvy hand. They’ve crafted a punch list of six must haves that will leave your baby with a room they can enjoy for years to come.

The Crib

The one piece that is definitely worth the splurge is the crib. With your little one sleeping in it for several years, investing in a sturdy crib is a good idea. And if you choose a gender neutral option, it can last through more siblings to come.

Things to Consider

  • Be sure to check that the crib meets all US safety standards. Vintage or family heirlooms might not be the best bet for meeting all the safety standards so leave these items for decor elements.
  • Opt for a toddler rail if you have a climber who isn’t yet ready for a twin bed to keep little ones that are climbing out safe.

 The Crib Bedding

Consider bedding the final layer to that showstopping crib. This is the absolute perfect place to really infuse your style and set the color palette or theme for the nursery.

Things to Consider

  • Stock up on crib sheets. We’re talking at least 5-6 or more if possible so you always have a clean set on hand.
  • If you love a classic look then a crib skirt is a gorgeous addition. But if you’re all about modern, then totally fine to skip.
  • Baby’s skin is sensitive so be sure to opt for bedding that is extra soft and 100% cotton.

The Changing Table

Diapers are a way of life with babies and making sure your changing station is stocked with essentials will make that life so much easier. Your options range from a freestanding changing table to a combination changing top/ dresser for smaller spaces.

Things to Consider

  • Bins or dresser drawers are great for storing all the little diapering neccessities like diapers, wipes, lotion and ointments, changes of clothes, etc.
  • Keep toys within arms reach to occupy your little one while you’re changing diapers or hang a mobile over head for a fun view.
  • Much like crib sheets, stocking up on changing pad covers will make life so much easier. Because messes are inevitable.

The Nursery Chair

A cozy corner for parent-baby bonding is such an important part of the nursery. It’s a spot for rocking your baby to sleep, feeding, reading, and most definitely some cuddling. So to say you’ll be spending a lot of time in this chair is an understatement. Make sure you craft the coziest spot possible with these nursery chair musts.

Things to Consider

  • Choose a rocking chair or glider who’s movement will help with lulling your baby to sleep.
  • Durability is another big one. You’ll want to pick fabric that cleans super easy and withstands lots and lots of use.
  • Don’t forget arm rests! They come in handy when you need a little support. Also of importance is choosing a chair that’s wide enough for cuddle time when your little baby becomes a rambunctious toddler.

Storage, lots and lots of storage

Creating a dream nursery space includes making sure that space is set-up with lots and lots of storage. From toys to books, all those baby clothes and gear too, they all need a special spot in the nursery.

Things to Consider

  • Think about storage that will not only work for your current needs like diapering but will also work later on for other items like loads of toys.
  • Stock up on large floor bins. These gems are great for baby blankets but also helpful when quickly picking up toys. And if you get low-profile versions, you can easily tuck them under the crib. Baskets are everything when it comes to organizing kid’s stuff.
  • For bits and bobbles that need to stay out of baby’s reach, wall shelves are perfect. We love them near the changing table for storing supplies. You can also add bins and baskets to standard bookshelves for organizing smaller supplies that stay hidden out of sight.
  • Don’t forget hanging closet storage. They are perfect for organizing the tiniest of clothes and can be re-purposed for non-clothes gear later. Think art supplies, board games and yes, more toys.

Decor

Now for the fun stuff, DECOR! Once you have the functionality squared away you can tackle that layer that really adds personality and includes those special pieces that make you happy.

Things to Consider

  • A great rug is key. For wood flooring, go for a plush style for cushion but forgo long pile rugs that can be a choking hazard. Have carpet? Then a flat weave is perfect for adding an extra splash of color minus the bulk. And no matter the style, be sure that rug cleans easily.
  • Curtains are another great decor layer; especially if you want baby to nap during the day. For this purpose picking a style with a built-in blackout liner or a blackout shade helps to darken the room at naptime. Roman shades or tailored panels also work well for smaller spaces that don’t need that extra bulk.
  • The final piece are those family heirlooms or even special items that you are drawn too. Fill the nursery with a style that reflects your taste and your family and it’s guaranteed to be a spot you love.

This Beachside Inspo Is a Breath of Fresh Air

I’ve had a divine revelation, want to hear it? Add in a splash of salt air and you are instantly guaranteed a chic wedding inspiration. Furthermore, ask Keepsake Memories Photography to be the one behind the lens and you’ve got yourself waterfront wonderment. See it all in The Vault!

From Keepsake Memories PhotographyA bridal shoot with a breath of fresh air is what was delivered on the shore of North Topsail Beach, N. C. The bride embraces the salty sea breeze with clear eyes as the wind whips through her lush dark mane. She stuns in a lace blush gown with an off-the-shoulder illusion neckline and cradles a seashell personalized with gold calligraphy. From the base of a sand dune, she examines the tide as it rolls into the sand. Her bouquet bursts with white roses and rich red and white carnations, surrounded by a bed of greenery. The creation is tied with a sampling of fluttering silk ribbons. An invitation suite inspired by the sea features a light blue seashell design packaged with sandy-colored envelopes. It’s the perfect prelude to a wedding in this tranquil coastal Carolina town. The moon appears, glimmering in the middle of a sky painted cotton-candy pink by the sunset. And as the exchange between the sun’s rays and the moon’s beams create a pastel glow on the water, the bride is picturesque in the surf, her pink dress a beacon as the waves lap up the remainder of the day.

Color + Style Combine For This Vibrant Desert Wedding

Is there such a thing as a wedding crush? Because if my feelings for this colorful celebration are any indication, then there absolutely is because I’m swooning. Captured by Elyse Hall at the strikingly beautiful Tanque Verde Guest Ranch, it’s an affair that I’m not soon to forget. See it all in our Vault right this way and get ready to “Favorite” this beauty to come back to over and over again.

From the couple… When we were discussing where we would want to have our wedding, both of us agreed that the desert in either spring or fall would be perfect for us, because Shannon was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. We did not have to look long before we found the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch (TVR) – which is a dude ranch and western horseback riding property. It was striking to us how perfectly at home we felt out in this desolate area of the Saguaro National Desert and we fell deeper in love with each other as we fell in love with the Tanque Verde Ranch and all its inhabitants, we knew it was the place for us. As for the actually wedding, the entire weekend was about saying yes: to our commitment to one another, to our devotion to all of our friends and family, to celebration and fun, to challenges and conflict, to abundance and growth, and most of all, to love.

For us, our wedding was about meaningful ceremony, ritual, community and most of all, celebration. Every single component of our weekend was purposeful and reflective of our vibrant life we share together in western Massachusetts.

We hired Sam from Imoni Events as our wedding planner extraordinaire and it was, hands down, the best decision we made – other than the one to marry each other. We did a lot of shopping around for planners and assumed, as queer people, that we would need a planner from New York or LA who could both get our vision and taste and also treat us right as queer people getting married in Arizona. We immediately felt comfortable with Sam and the amazing partners she recommended for us!

The entire 16-month experience of working with her and her team of vendors was an absolute delight. With her help, we connected with the amazing Elyse Hall Photography, phenomenal floral designers Atelier de LaFleur and our wonderful stationer, Celebrations In Paper. Together, along with the exceptional event coordinators and staff at TVR, they completely captured our vision and brought our wildest dreams to life! We felt their passion and their talent erupted on the wedding day and after, with our stunning wedding photographs! In the end, our instinct to get married in the desert was the most perfect cosmic decision. We had the best weekend of our lives!

Designing a Girly Nursery? This One is a Must-See.

If a little lady is in your future and you’re dying to go all out girly girl with the nursery design, this post is for you mama! Designed by WINTER DAISY, it’s whimsical details like the crib canopy and IKAT painting from Dana Mooney Art make for a dreamy space for baby to grow. See even more captured by Rebecca Dadson in The Vault!

Pink and white with hints of yellow and gold, this baby girl nursery is a little girl’s (and mama’s!) dream come true! Designed by Melissa Barling of Winter Daisy Interiors (who designs rooms exclusively for children) in Vancouver, Canada, it’s a soft and serene retreat for sweet baby Nayviah.

Nayviah’s mom engaged Melissa when she was in the early stages of her pregnancy and in the midst of a major renovation of a newly purchased house that would become home for the whole family. She was exceptionally excited to be expecting a baby girl and wanted this space to encapsulate everything she had dreamed of – girly with pink, yellow and gold.

From the first consultation, the request was clear… warm and inviting while mixing in some traditional aspects and damask wallpaper. One of the first things to be decided was the wallpaper. Initially not thinking this paper had enough impact; Melissa worked with her client to show the texture and sheen on this lovely paper. It works beautifully with the classic tufted crib from Restoration Hardware and the canopy creates a beautiful piece for the eye to focus on.

The Ubabub bookshelves show off books beautifully and the books here pull all of the colours together. Melissa also worked with local Vancouver artist Dana Mooney to create a canvas that would pull in the soft pink and yellow colours whilst accenting with gold foil.

A very special J Schatz star egg nightlight was added that when lit, shines tiny stars on the walls and ceiling above. It is really spectacular in a dark room! With so much natural light coming in, it was imperative to ensure the room could be dark for sleep time. These curtains are not only beautiful but blackout lined for functionality too.

The rocking chair creates a perfect corner for Nayviah to be rocked and read to and combined with the gold ottoman, is a cozy and comfy place for Mom or Dad too. This room has so many sweet details and is truly a soothing oasis for the sweetest baby girl.

A Working Barn Turned Enchanted Wedding Reception

Although Abigail and Jerry call the East Coast home, they decided on a wedding at the bride’s family ranch in California. Luckily, Abigail’s mom happens to be a wildly talented landscape designer and helped turn a working barn into a truly magical reception space dripping in florals, cafe lights, and greenery. You must, must, must carve out the morning to pore over the photos by Caroline Tran.

From Caroline Tran PhotographyThough Abigail and Jerry live on the East Coast, they tied the knot at Abigail’s family ranch in Petaluma, CA and had a gorgeous destination wedding. They exchanged vows in the middle of the property, surrounded by rolling hills for as far as the eyes could see. Guest then paraded down to the cocktail hour, lead by a Dixie band.

Abigail’s mom, who’s a landscape designer, was the creative power behind the day and everything was stunning. She turned the working barn into an enchanted banquet hall, decorated with trunks, branches, greenery and flowers found entirely on the property. She covered the barn house doors with mirrors to give it a more glam and dressed up look. It was the perfect contrast to the rustic wood.

NYC High-School Sweethearts Tie the Knot in The City They Love

Ben and Kim’s love story began long before their wedding day when they were just a pair of high-school sweeties growing up in New York City. Fast forward 13 years and there was zero question where they should tie the knot. “We knew Brooklyn was where we wanted to be married – outside, right on the water, with the city that raised us in the background,” said Kim. China Jorrin photographed the celebration full of beauty and emotion like you’ve never seen.

We are two NYC kids who met at 15 years old, quickly becoming high school sweethearts. Ben is a video producer/editor/director and Kim works in casting for film and TV. After imagining the day of our wedding since we were teenagers, finally experiencing it after 13 years together, in front of our closest family and friends, was the greatest gift we could’ve received. We knew Brooklyn was where we wanted to be married- outside, right on the water, with the city that raised us in the background. The simplicity of our gorgeous white florals and neutral colors and style, perfectly reflected our vision for this incredibly meaningful day. It was an absolute dream.

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

We envisioned a day filled with memories and love, surrounded by close family and friends. We knew our wedding would be fairly large – we have been together for almost 13 years and it was important to us to include all of the people who had contributed to our life together. It was truly special celebrating with the people we grew up with. We had always wanted to get married in Brooklyn – and knowing we needed a venue that could accommodate a large party, we knew immediately after finding it that The Liberty Warehouse was our dream location. We wanted an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour overlooking our beautiful hometown of NYC (which nearly didn’t happen due to the thunderstorms, but magically cleared just in time for the invite!!). We moved inside for the reception, surrounded by Amber lighting and flickering candles, while the sunset and outdoors were still accessible just a few steps away. It was absolute perfection. The entire staff at The Liberty Warehouse, led by Jeff Torem, were so wonderful throughout the planning process and made our experience one we will never forget.

Tell us about your color palette and style vision?

Ben and I wanted our wedding to reflect our warm, romantic, and simplistic style preferences. The neutral color palette we chose perfectly summed up our vision for the evening’s decor – white/cream, charcoal and dove gray, and black. White flowers with pops of greenery, light Amber lighting, and the gorgeous brick arched Liberty Warehouse structure in the background perfectly defined our personal style and vision for our Brooklyn wedding. My bridesmaids wore mostly long chiffon charcoal or dove gray/cream dresses (one gray Tulle dress for my youngest “Maid”, my sister Sophie), and the groomsmen wore fly black suits. Ben wore a stunning gray tuxedo with black lining on the pants/jacket. He looked so handsome.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

We loved the idea of incorporating photographs of us, our family and our friends. Making our wedding as personal as possible was our priority. We knew we were going to use baby photos of us as our table numbers, which was such a fun and cute moment for us to do together. With this idea already planned, we decided to use baby photos of our bridal party on our wedding website instead of current photos. It personified this natural theme we had of incorporating the past and the present, as our relationship is such a wonderful reminder of time and love. For our guest book at the wedding, we had Polaroid cameras on the escort card table, so our guests could snap a photo of themselves and write us a little message as a keepsake. We also had photo collages of us and our families on the same table. We have such incredible families and we wanted to show them off!

What was your favorite moment?

Our ceremony was our favorite part. Our officiant Jeddah helped to create such a wonderful flow to the ceremony, allowing our personalities to just shine right through, resulting in a very moving and loving moment in the day. It’s what our guests reference as their favorite part in the day, as well. It was incredibly important for us to personalize our vows, and hearing each other’s words was a special experience for us both. After being together for so long, there were so many different things we could say in those 20 minutes. It was entirely about love and our devotion to each other- a mix of humor, romance and memories. We also included a moment where we thanked our parents, having them stand while we turned in their direction, and hear how special and inspirational they are to us, in our own words. That was very rewarding. The dancing was our other favorite part. Our incredible DJ Neza literally kept our guests on their feet the entire night. He crafted the evening so perfectly, knowing when to play certain songs, when to entice people back on the dance floor and also when to slow it down. He developed the perfect balance, and if we could have him follow us around in our daily lives, creating a life soundtrack for us, we would.

Your favorite crafted detail?

Personalizing our wedding was our favorite detail. From the table number baby photos, family photos, photos of Ben and I at 16 years old right next to a photo of us from this year, speeches from our parents and siblings, personalized vows – it was just us. Every moment, every word- it perfectly defined who we are as people in this relationship together, and what experience we wanted our guests to have on this day. We’ve known each other almost half our lives, and sharing the history of our relationship with those who know us best was our favorite part. Planning the menu was also incredibly fun… Because we like to eat. Who doesn’t!?

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

If time allows, space out the planning process so you don’t get too overwhelmed. We happened to have almost a 2-year engagement, and planning a NYC wedding does take some time, but it allowed us to really enjoy every detail without feeling too stressed. I also think it’s important for brides to just relish in this moment. Everybody says it, and I will add myself to the tally, but this incredible day that’s potentially taken so long to plan goes by so quickly. My sister gave me a great piece of advice that was passed down to her from a friend: take a moment during the wedding to just look out at your guests, look at the scene in front of you, and take it all in. Because in just a few short hours it will be over! As I was looking into The Liberty Warehouse from outside by the water, an incredible sunset behind me, I thought to myself, this is pretty special. This is a day about my love and me, and all of the people who love us most. It is a day of celebration.

This Doctor-Turned-Bride Planned the Prettiest Day Ever

The bride, Bo? She’s kind of our new hero. Not only is she a doctor, but she’s a bride with an eye for style, and a no-detail-too-small approach to her wedding day design. Along with her other half, Michael and the pros at A Savvy Event, they planned a summertime garden wedding in the heart of Napa Valley. Don’t miss out on a single dreamy image from the incredible Jen Huang.

From Jen HuangBo and Michael chose to celebrate among close family and friends on a beautiful summery day at Carneros Inn. Bo is a doctor, but she still carved out time to design her own wedding. From the beautiful calligraphy and signage, to the hand-stitched blue linen folders for her invitations, there was no detail too small.

The couple wanted a naturalistic, garden-style celebration that also felt elegant and refined for their out-of-town guests. They chose to pair soft, cool-toned linens from La Tavola with antique brass and pewter vessels that Studio Mondine filled with luscious locally-grown garden roses, Dutch tulips, hellebores, vibernum, and peonies. The ephemeral Lily of the Valley, available for just a few weeks in May, were tucked into Bo’s hair and reappeared in Michael’s boutonniere with blueberries and their foliage.

Bo and Michael exchanged tearful vows on the hilltop, their guests cradled by sweetgum trees. When it came time to celebrate, guests toasted with the bride and groom’s signature cocktails and sat down to an artful, farm-to-table meal. From the careful paper details, to the thoughtfully sourced flowers and meal, Bo and Michael perfectly blended their pared back, elegant style with all that is lovely about summer in the Napa Valley.

A Spring Wedding That’s Just Too Cute for Words

Restaurants may just be my new favorite wedding venue – case in point, this modern, minimalist masterpiece. At Aracely Restaurant on San Fran’s Treasure Island, overlooking the bay, we have this too sweet for words wedding captured by onelove photography. From the place settings to the stolen kisses, it’s all picture perfect. Head to our Vault for every beautiful bit!

Styles
Modern

From the Bride… We wanted a modern wedding set in a natural environment, so that our guests would be able to unwind and enjoy themselves. We stumbled upon Aracely Cafe on Treasure Island by chance, and absolutely loved how eclectic the environment was, especially with the cityscape in the background. Our family and friends are so important to us, so picking the right venue with the right atmosphere for fun and relaxation was crucial. The venue, together with the decor, music and food were things we wanted to be true to us.

It was important for us to bring both sides of the family together (I am born and raised from SoCal, Alex in NorCal) so it was also a great opportunity for the extended family to finally meet and get together. As a nod to both family cultures, we performed a Chinese tea ceremony at the beginning of the wedding, and during the reception, I was able to incorporate a traditional Japanese obi belt into my wedding outfit.

We wanted to incorporate the venue’s natural elements and decor, with the mix of so many plants and succulents. Part of our decor were various geometric air plant holders, which we strung up as a backdrop to where we said our “I do’s”. We made all the holders by hand, and ended up giving out smaller versions to our guests as wedding favors, with mini air plants to go along with them!

My advice: try to follow a month by month checklist of all the things you want accomplished! It’s definitely challenging to plan your own wedding, but it’s so worth it in the end.

We were so happy to have been able to slip away for some photos by the bay during sunset hour. It was nice to share that moment and reflect on what had happened so far in our day.

What It’s Really Like Planning a Wedding With the Internet Watching

Hi Brides-to-be, it’s Lauryn of The Skinny Confidential and as I approached this post I wondered, in the endless sea of wedding posts on the Internet how can I offer something different? Something unique? Something not-so-bridal? Then I realized, why not talk about what it’s really like to plan a wedding with the Internet watching!

DOCUMENTATION
Firstly, you’re documenting the whole process of the actual planning stages. It has added a bit more work, but it’s also really cool to be able to look back and remember all of the moments. For instance, I asked The Skinny Confidential readers which invitations they liked best. The dress shopping, checking out venues, tastings, it’s all documented. Michael has had to step in as our photographer at least 100 times by now. Whether you’re a blogger or not, it’s important to document the journey down the aisle, not just the big day itself.

PRIVACY
When you broadcast your life online there are certain things you really want to keep to yourself. Sometimes you just want to be in the moment instead of focusing on how to share the moment. For example, when Michael and I first got engaged, we kept it quiet for OVER A MONTH. We wanted to just enjoy being engaged without having to post, Tweet, or Snapchat the experience. We honestly just talked about it with each other and shared the new with close friends & family instead of responding to comments in the first month, we were just enjoying it with each other. Of course, once we were ready, we decided to share it with the world wide web. Planning an engagement announcement of your own? Here are some great ideas.

INTIMATE
Finally, because our life is so public, we decided to go with a very small, intimate and secluded wedding. Just like our engagement, there are certain moments we truly want to savor and feel fully present for. A bigger wedding means more hands to shake, people to see, and planning. I’d rather focus my energy on being present. Which is why we decided our wedding will be as intimate as possible, so we can really connect with everyone there in the moment with us. That being said, every moment will be recorded and photographed. In a nutshell, the theme of our wedding is small, intimate, but fully documented. We’re bringing our family, close friends, and the entire The Skinny Confidential Team to celebrate the experience after the fact. So there you have it, those are the three ways I’ve noticed planning a wedding as influencer is a bit different! Would love any of your wedding tips and tricks. I kind of need all the help I can get it!
