Why Wedding Videos Are Always Worth It

Imagine this scenario – you’re cozied up in the getaway car with your love, soaking up the unbelievable joy of the day that just unfolded. The big moments, the little moments, the unexpected moments, the love. It’s the kind of day you’ll want to re-live over and over again, and that’s where a wedding videographer comes in. The incredible Julie of Elysium Productions is here to answer your most pressing questions about hiring a videographer, and why it’s a decision you’ll never regret. But first, let her highlight reel of 2016 speak for itself…

MustWatch_swash-01

What’s the #1 reason a couple should hire a wedding videographer?

Most importantly, to capture all of the unanticipated moments. The moments you cannot even imagine right now! Many couples forget to prioritize video or really think much about it before the wedding. And then experience the biggest day of their lives and say, “THANK GOODNESS WE HAD A VIDEOGRAPHER THERE!” There is incredible power in a wedding film to fully document a once-in-a-lifetime event in a super comprehensive yet entertaining way!

What are some tips for couples trying to decide which style of videography would suit their day?

The most important tip is to watch A TON of work. Hiring a cinematographer definitely takes more time invested in the selection process than a photographer because you actually have to watch in real time. Narrow it down by what you see on their website – that will ultimately allow you to find what style you like naturally. You may not know the “name” of the style but that’s ok. Just the fact that you’ve gravitated towards certain films over others will define the style that you like.

From there, make sure you set up a time to meet or chat with the studios you have narrowed down. Don’t just email and request a price list. This is probably the mistake I would say most couples make when booking a cinematographer. You see, a pricing sheet won’t tell you how the studio goes about FILMING your wedding day. It just shows you numbers and the end result. But it’s important to find out if their style requires them to be very directorial, bring lighting, record audio well, etc. Each studio has its own style and it’s up to YOU to find out how they accomplish those results.

I already have a photographer, why do I need a videographer?

The medium of video has an enormous amount of power to create an emotional reaction. Photos just cannot do that by themselves. Think about it. When you watch a good film in the theater – or even a cool Superbowl ad – you laugh, you cry, you are MOVED. The medium of video combines the elements of music, sound, and movement in order to accurately document this once-in-a-lifetime day.

Hiring a cinematographer may seem like an extraordinary or “luxury” expense, but in the end, it will actually extend your entire wedding investment by DECADES by preserving these memories in this super effective format. Having great photographs and a great film go hand-in-hand but each does not “replace” the other. They serve two completely different purposes.

How much should a couple budget for a videographer?

Although the perception is slowly changing, think about this: wedding cinematography requires about three times the amount of equipment (audio, stabilization, more lenses since we can only shoot horizontal not vertical, more expensive software and expensive computers that can handle it) and about 5x the amount of editing time. To think about it another way, if you share photos that you take on your phone on Instagram, do you ever edit little videos to post? Probably not because it’s very time-consuming. So while so many couples think that a cinematographer should be less expensive than their photographer, to get a great film they should budget equally for each.

Can I use my favorite song for the video? How does music licensing work?

The short answer is no unless you have a good $150,000 budgeted for your wedding film in order to license popular music (as it is about $15,000 per song). Without going into all of the legalities, it now makes the most sense for videographers to buy licensed music for our productions.

Although this could feel like a bummer, it’s actually a huge advantage. Several services have started up that allow videographers to affordably license great music from unknown bands/composers. And the music is GOOD. Now we are able to create unique soundtracks (just like a Hollywood movie!) that create a separate memory already tied to those well-known songs!

What’s the average timespan of the finished product?

Most studios edit some sort of Highlight Film or Sneak Peek anywhere from 2-6 minutes. From there, it varies widely based on the cinematographer’s style. They may offer a documentary (non-storytelling) edit that is 2-3 hours long or some offer a more cinematic way of editing that lends itself to a shorter experience that is anywhere from 7-40 minutes. Remember, don’t be shy and ask the studios you are considering to see fully delivered films and find what works best for you.

Garden Inspired Wedding Smack Dab in the Middle of Los Angeles

Vibiana is one of the most stunning venues around. Once a church, it now sets the stage for all the pretty that Los Angeles weddings have to offer. And this one? A garden beauty filled with blush pinks, gold sparkle and grand marble backdrops. Pore through the vault for more including florals by Lotus & Lily, planning by Modern LA Weddings and all the pretty images captured by onelove photography.

From the Bride… We always thought our wedding should be timeless by maintaining some traditions, while adding a few non-traditional twists. We wanted our ceremony to feel intimate, and that’s why we asked a close friend to marry us. We wanted it to feel personal, but not cheesy. It was also very important to both of us to write our own vows. Besides that, we didn’t want the wedding to feel so orchestrated or forced. We didn’t have games or anything. We just wanted our guests to come, party, and have a great time!

Our venue was a decommissioned church, so there were definitely a few architectural elements that were religious. My parents wanted to hide the altar, but we really didn’t want to mask any of building since it is so beautiful. Instead, we opted to drape a sheer fabric over the area. I feel like this enhanced the overall look of the altar and gave it a lightness. It wasn’t obvious that we were trying to disguise something. Instead of having a written sign or an enlarged photograph, we did 3′ tall floral initials at the entrance. It felt not as literal or expected, and it was an excuse to add more flowers!

I learned that you can’t control every single thing about your wedding, and it is extremely important to plan ahead and take your time! I would recommend getting a videographer. There are so many funny and unique memories (and dancing!) at every wedding, and these are captured so well in a video. I also definitely recommend hiring a wedding planner, even if it is not for full service. (We hired our planner for partial planning.) With our planner, I felt like I did not have to worry about anything on the day of and his team took care of everything for us. My favorite part of the wedding was the first look. I was definitely nervous and had barely gotten any sleep the night before, but seeing each other before the wedding really calmed our nerves. It was a very special and private moment that we got to share together. I also loved a surprise from one of the groomsmen. He had a cash “cannon” that shot out fake money for our grand entrance/bridal party introduction. I think all of our guests were truly stunned and entertained!

Blogger of ‘The Every Hostess’ Shares Her Engagement Session!

You know Kaitlin as the darling blogger behind The Every Hostess so it’ll come as no surprise that her engagement session was styled to a T. Along with Greenwood Events, she designed a picnic for two (make that three with their adorable pup, Winston!) set amongst the natural beauty of Montana. Jeremiah and Rachel photographed and if this gallery is an indication of their upcoming wedding, we’re officially waiting on pins and needles for the big day.

Kaitlin and Jeremy are planning a wonderful Montana wedding with Greenwood Events, and we were so lucky to spend an evening with them documenting this fun season of their lives!! Kaitlin and Jeremy live in Colorado but have always vacationed in Montana, so naturally, they want everyone they love to join them in this beautiful state to celebrate their wedding! Even their adorable dog, Winston joined us for a fun picnic in the park, and he definitely stole the show! Kaitlin is a blogger at The Every Hostess, so a styled picnic was absolutely perfect for these two. Darci from Greenwood Events created a stunning bouquet that so perfectly fit Kaitlin’s girly and delicate style. Even Jeremy was looking dapper in a navy suit! We so appreciate when our couples put extra thought and care into their engagement session and let their personalities show!

From the Bride-to-be… Mine and Jeremy’s love story began in Fort Collins, Colorado when we were attending college at Colorado State University. I had known him for a while before he asked me out, and I admit, I was always curious what kind of girl would date this goofy character. Little did I know… that goof was actually my soul mate. Fast forward to five and a half years later, on a holiday trip to London, England, while sitting in a cafe called Champagne and Fromage, Jeremy got down on one knee (after fake knocking something off the table…) and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Now, we are saying “I do” in the last best place on Earth: Whitefish, Montana.

Why Whitefish? Ever since I was born, I grew up being lucky enough to spend time in Whitefish every summer and winter. Whitefish is a place I call home. And by sharing this town with Jeremy throughout the last few years, it has grown into his home too. For our engagement session, we wanted to capture this special moment of being newly engaged with two local Whitefish photographers I have always admired, Jeremiah and Rachel Spray Photography. Following them on Instagram over the years, I have always loved Jeremiah and Rachel. Their photographic style completely captures the unique love and romance between a couple. Every photo they post, I want to jump right in and be in that exact scene! When Jeremy and I were first engaged I knew immediately that I wanted them to photograph us in this special time.

For our engagement shoot, I wanted to feel the most like us in our favorite place on earth, Whitefish. The goal was to capture a simple yet modern mountain feel, featuring beautiful florals and natural moments of love and laughter with my fiancé. Rachel and Jeremiah chose the location, a park just outside of Whitefish with the perfect mountain backdrop for a picnic and frolicking through the park. Greenwood Events created a simple yet feminine bouquet for me to hold that perfectly tied in the colors of Montana. I have to say, however, our puppy Winston stole the show! He knew exactly what was going on and was ready for his moments in front of the camera. For the picnic setting, we sat on a Pendleton Blanket with another gorgeous floral arrangement by Greenwood Events. This was the most “us” setting to our engagement session story, drinking wine and laughing.

In the perfect celebration of their sixth anniversary, this couple captured their love in a stunning photoshoot in the woods. With earthy arrangements by Floral Wonders and a simple lace gown by Anna Campbell, this shoot will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. This beautiful gallery captured by the talented Kristin La Voie is a romantic reminder that love should be celebrated always!

From the couple… David and I have been married for 6 years and in that short amount of time we learned that life will throw many challenges your way, some big and some small. Our advice to younger couples is to face these challenges head on, as a team. Make the choice to love each other, even when the weight of the world starts to take its toll. Choose to forgive. Choose to forget. Choose to laugh. Choose to see the good. Choose to see the light. The light in your day to day, in the most unlikely of places, however dim it might be, however long it lasts and use it to see the beauty that is this amazing journey we call marriage. Cherish the small moments, the moments of light, because these moments are what make all the challenges worth it.

From Kibogo PhotographyLast summer I got lucky to team up with Simone, a very talented wedding planer from the south of Germany. We had some real fun planing this amazing inspirational wedding shoot at a villa in Italy. The prestigious Villa Ca Vendri is THE place to get married and enjoy the best wine and food. Ideal for indoor and outdoor ceremonies or dinners.

We chose a very natural color palette with a gentle touch of blue in the details such as table runner, ribbons for the bouquet, cake and bow tie. Alina, the hair and make up artist outdid herself with styling the bride and Simone with styling the whole theme. A world widespread team of excellent wedding vendors made this a dream come true inspiration for all the couples out there who are planing on getting married in Italy.

This Inspiration Will Have You Counting Down the Days to Spring

Spring might still be a few months away but this shoot is sure to tide you over until the sunshine has officially sprung. And what could be more Spring-like than a picnic wedding alfresco? Cynthia Martyn Fine Events + Living Fresh Flower Studio + Plume Calligraphy and Whitney Heard Photography crafted the prettiest floral-infused photo shoot that will totally to inspire you to go bright and bloom-filled.

From the Photographer… Overflowing with details, this shoot pairs fresh spring colors, the romance of lace and the timelessness of Landgon Hall. It has been brought to life to inspire you to do something a little different on your wedding day. Planner Cynthia Martyn helped this couple bring new ideas to their ceremony space with a picnic full of pillows, baguettes and wine. A fine art painting by Michelle Arms also brings creativity to the gathering. The day filled with laughter and cheer as the couple socialized over a stunning harvest wood table. With bridesmaids in mismatched dresses, the bride invited her closest friends to add a hint of spontaneity to her wedding images. The florals played a huge part in bringing this look together, adding color and freshness. With bouquets and arrangements full of peonies, ranunculus and greens, flower studio Living Fresh shows us the joy in bringing color into your dream wedding day. The cake, hand crafted by Toronto patisserie Nadia & Co, was inspired by bright florals and lush greenery. Delicate strokes from Plum Calligraphy adorn the menus and stationery suite, and provide a fitting invitation to this stunning collection of inspiration.

A Wedding That Embraces Greenery in a Big Way

Finding her point of inspiration in summer botanicals, this art director turned bride brought her vision to life for a garden wedding in the city. Adorned head-to-toe in natural, lush greens, the setting felt like an urban oasis and the ladies of Face Time Beauty Concierge made sure the bride, Yasmine completely stole the show. Judy Pak is to thank for every image, and there’s more to see this way.

From the Bride… My family is Egyptian and my husband’s family is Iranian. We met in New York and wanted our wedding to reflect not just our past but also our present. To do this we brought people together in a space that embodies what we love about our city. The Foundry has history, modernity, character, elegance and warmth all in one beautiful space. It was exactly what we were looking for.

As an art director, I designed the stationery myself which helped me set the overall look and feel early on. To influence my palette of colors, textures, and flavors I found inspiration in summer botanicals, particularly olive, rosemary and eucalyptus.

The ceremony took place in the venue’s main space and had three parts to it. For our processional, we did a modern take on the traditional Egyptian Zaffa. This was followed by an Iranian sugar rubbing ritual. We then asked all of our guests to collectively marry us. In unison, they read out loud nine questions we’d written on the back of the programs to which we answered “we do”. It was important for us to feel like each guest was part of the wedding.

Following the ceremony, guests were invited into the Greenhouse room to enjoy specialty cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. We had a candlelit outdoor dinner under a tent in the courtyard. Adorning our long communal tables were low lush floral centerpiece arrangements that we interspersed with a collection of hurricanes and brass vases filled with more florals and herbs.

Food was a priority for us. We created a modern menu that we infused with some of our favorite Mediterranean flavors and aromas. We even gave the cake a Mediterranean flair by decorating it with olive branches.

After dinner, a roaring dance party took place in the main space where we partied the night away with our loved ones.

Alex Michael May’s Tips to Radiate Confidence

GLOW FROM THE INSIDE OUT

On your wedding day (and every day!) it’s true that the more beautiful you feel, the more beautiful you’ll look. It’s important to focus on FEELING gorgeous, so you glow from the inside out. We all have beauty rituals and looks that make us feel our best, and these should be honored on your big day! Your radiant smile and sparkling eyes will show through in the photographs for years to come. There’s a reason they coined the phrase “blushing bride!”

FOCUS ON YOUR FAVORITE FEATURES

We all have certain parts of our bodies we love to flaunt over others, whether you have gorgeous long legs, or a beautiful décolletage, choose a dress design that plays up that features and draws attentions to your assets. Show off that small waist, hourglass figure or toned back and feel confident and flawless on your wedding day.

LET YOUR PERSONAL STYLE SHINE THROUGH

On your wedding day, you may be a bride, but you’re still you. Make sure the look you choose for the occasion reflects who you are as an individual. From wearing gloves, to a custom veil or headpiece or unexpected shoe choice, there are countless opportunities to let your personality shine through when you say “I do.”

These Lovebirds Were Brought Together by their Four Fur Babies

I love a good story behind the Big Day. And today’s ‘how you met’ story? It’s definitely the awww! kind. Elizabeth and Jeff’s romance started on the sidewalk as they passed by one another with their matching black and yellow lab sets and the rest is history. Photographer, Natalie Watson tells the full story below with her beautiful words and of course, imagery to boot. And even though those pups don’t make a wedding day appearance, I love them so for bringing these two together.

From the Bride… It started with Labs—four Labs to be exact. I, new to the St. Louis area as a post-doctoral fellow at Washington University, was walking my black and yellow Labs when I noticed a fellow dog walker across the street. He, too, was holding the leashes to a black Lab and yellow Lab. We waved and laughed at our “matching sets”—and that was the beginning. For the next couple of weeks, we both surreptitiously began looking for the other while walking the streets of the Central West End in St. Louis. Soon we were stopping for longer chats, eventually meeting up for a concert and a World Series game. Within a matter of weeks, the dogs refused to part, and so did we. We were surrounded by close friends and family for a weekend celebration at Blackberry Farm.

The Ultimate Spring Wedding in Santa Barbara

In my years of wedding blogging, I’ve come to believe Santa Barbara is the perfect spot to marry. You’ve got endless sunshine, scenery for days, and of course, many of the best wedding vendors (like Michael + Anna Costa, Lilla Bello and Pure Joy Catering) happen to call that region home. Along with an entire team of talent, they brought the couple’s vision of an intimate, elegant, al fresco affair to life. Watch the day unfold this way in the gallery.

Villa

From the Bride… This by far was one of the best days of my life and it wouldn’t have been such a flawless day without the work of an incredible wedding team to help make it happen. A little back story, Phil and I got engaged in August of 2015 and set our date for April 1, 2016. We both wanted a very small intimate wedding in Santa Barbara with only the people who had been a huge part of our relationship. We wanted a small wedding over a large wedding because we wanted it to feel personal so we could spend time with all to thank them for their love and support over the years. In working with Donna Romani Events (DRE) over the course of the short 8 months she helped bring our vision to life. Donna helped prioritize what was most important to us- venue, photography, flowers and everything else fell smoothly into place.

The venue we chose, Villa Verano located in the foothills of Santa Barbara was not only the perfect location for an intimate affair but it had a very special meaning to me as my brother had gotten married there four years earlier. I had fallen in love with the view, the home, the grounds and the meaning it would now have to our family. We both knew we wanted a venue where we would be able to have the ceremony, cocktail and reception and the property offered just that with three different levels throughout the grounds. Once Phil saw the villa and we added the meaning on top of it we knew this was it!

Prioritizing the photography honestly was one or our best decisions. If I have any advice for a bride planning- get an incredible photographer and it’s worth every penny for two reasons. One, you spend most of the day with your photographer. Two, they are a part of some of the most intimate, raw moments and you have to feel comfortable to share this with someone other than your spouse. Michael + Anna Costa Photography and specifically Michael Costa are fantastic. I couldn’t have been happier spending the day with someone not only incredibly talented as him but also his energy, calming demeanor and presence was exactly what we had hoped for. My husband and I both agree, he was a huge part of making our day so special not only because he captured every moment perfectly but he truly became a part of our family that day.

The flowers were also very important to me as my mother is a florist and flowers have been a huge part of my life. In working with Toby Kassoy from Lilla Bello in Santa Monica she took our color scheme, favorite flowers and made some of the most beautiful arrangements that brought every piece of the evening to life from my bouquet, to the ceremony, the cocktail hour to our reception. One of my other favorite parts of the planning outside of the flowers was our dessert table. Being that my husband is British and I am part French we wanted to create a “Battle of the Desserts” table and Lele Patisserie created us desserts from each country and with the design eye of DRE and flowers the theme was captured through a gorgeous, fun and delicious table.

Outside of the key planning pieces our wedding was flawless. The intimate and elegant design and flow of each part of the day was beyond my expectations. It’s funny as you plan you have this idea of what everything will look like and how it will go but once you are actually in the midst, trust your team and let go of all control it is truly amazing. The day holds a special meaning, goes so fast that all the details become secondary. Once I fell into what the day means I found myself lost in emotion. I made sure to take a few moments to step back and take it all in and I’d give that advice to any bride to be. One of my favorite memories was sitting with my husband at our sweetheart table with the sun setting behind us and looking at all our friends and family toasting our love and life. I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed that every person here got to be a part of my favorite love story including the bundle of joy who was 12 weeks old in my belly.

From the Bride…Before starting the planning process, my husband (Alex) and I had three priorities (well four for me) ; photographer/videographer, food and music and my dress. We had a general idea of what colors we wanted but it wasn’t until we met with our wedding coordinators, Cosmopolitan Events, did we really dive into the details.

I wanted our color palette to be timeless so we went with a warm neutral palette with soft pinks, ivory and rose gold. My style along with my husband’s is traditional and classic, we kept it trendy by using some fun textures for our linens.

We wanted our day to represent us so we included a lot of our favorite foods, drinks and even our favorite charity at our reception. At our reception we served a signature cocktail to greet our guests, St. Louis themed food as our midnight snack which included Gus’ pretzels, toasted ravioli and in lieu of favors, we donated to Friends of Kids with Cancer in our guests names and in support of my niece, Elliana, who is a cancer survivor.

Our favorite moment of the day was our first look. It was exhilarating walking up to him and anticipating his reaction to seeing me in my wedding gown. I’ll treasure those few minutes we shared together before the ceremony forever.

Pretty Sea Glass + Personal Touches Galore Make this Wedding a Winner

With a color palette inspired by the beauty of sea glass, this charming and personal New Hampshire wedding is heart warming and oh so pretty all wrapped up in one fabulous gallery (right here!). Captured by Elyse Hall, these cuties shined on their special day and really, what more could you ask for? See it all in our Vault right this way!

From Elyse HallVintage, handcrafted and special touches were what made Leah and Rob’s wedding day so unique and beautiful. Leah and Rob who are both native New Englanders who met and fell in love in Boston, MA. When they became engaged they knew they wanted a wedding that was very close to home and united their love not only for each other but for the New England scenery and aspects of their upbringings.

Sea glass, which Leah and her mom have been collecting for years from the beach of her parents second home in Puerto Rico; where Leah and Rob got engaged, was the inspiration for her color palette. Paired with the theme of important touches, Leah and Rob chose to get married in Leah’s family church, St. Theresa in Rye, NH. The dress mold that hung her dress was her great grandmothers as well as the tray, purse, handkerchief and cake server were all handed down to her from her mom and grandmas. Leah also chose to get ready at her family home in Hampton, NH where she has lived her entire life and was accompanied by her mom, wedding party and her family dog, Nemo. Another unique component were the favors: which were real Maine maple syrup that came from Robb’s parents farm in Maine.

Creating a day that felt very special, personal and filled with family was what was the most important to the lovely couple. An extra special treat was being able to leave the church in Rob’s uncle’s vintage Red Shelby Mustang, which was a perfect way to kick off the night and get the party started. At the reception guests enjoyed a beautiful setting at the Abenaqui Country Club that was so light and airy and continued the theme of simple, beautiful and personal touches. Handwritten guest names by the bride on her collected sea glass was really thoughtful and extra unique. Overall Leah and Rob’s day was magic and perfect for them in every way!

Style Me Pretty Blogger Bride ‘Livvyland’ Wedding Reveal

Do you all love following our Blogger Brides‘ wedding journeys as much as I do? It’s always a pop-the-bubbly kind of day around here when one of our beauties gets hitched, and Olivia of Livvyland is no exception. From her adorbs mistletoe moment last year to how she picked her bridal accessories and now, her gorgeous shindig captured by Laura Morsman. So, raise your glass and head to The Vault with us—it’s a doozy.

From the Bride, Olivia WatsonOhh my heart! It is still surreal to look back at these photos and relive such a special day. After a year of planning, showers, tastings, dress fittings and so much more, I had the honor of marrying my very best friend in front of our closest friends and family. Amidst the grounds of Villa Del Lago overlooking beautiful Lake Travis in Austin, Texas, with the sun glowing and a string quartet playing “Across The Universe” by The Beatles (the movie we saw on our first date in high school), we promised to stand beside each other as husband and wife forever moving forward. It was a day filled with so much love and happiness, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.

The inspiration behind our wedding was a pairing of classic glamour and whimsical romance. My grandmother’s sense of style always had a big impact on me growing up – she had such an old Hollywood grace about her, and I wanted to honor her aesthetic as I chose my dress, jewelry and hairstyle for the wedding. Though I tried on what felt like hundreds of dresses, when I slipped into my gown, I knew right away it was the one. My mom wore my grandmothers satin wedding dress, and it has the same neckline and overall silhouette as the one I chose. It felt like fate finding my dress, and it was a beautiful way for me to celebrate my sweet Mimi on our wedding day. From my satin gown with a statement bow at the back, to the festoon lighting strewn above our dinner table stretching across the lawn, the overall vision for our wedding came together perfectly. I remember taking a moment while seated at dinner to look down the table and relish in such a special moment with those we care about so dearly. It was truly dreamlike. Though our guest count was 150 people, the atmosphere felt intimate and sweet, which was our biggest hope as we planned the wedding.

Blake and I got engaged in May 2015 and decided a long engagement was best given our busy schedules. It was the absolute best decision and gave my mom and I time to plan the wedding together. Though planning a major event with hundreds of people in attendance is quite an undertaking, my biggest piece of advice to those planning a wedding with their mom is to relish in that precious time spent together. I know wedding planning can be overwhelming and stressful at times, but remind yourself to enjoy the journey and know that these moments are fleeting. I was and still am so appreciative for the incredible amount of time and effort my mom put into our wedding. From meeting with our florist six times, to selecting the wedding cake flavors, to ordering the 13 stunning Joanna August bridesmaid dresses and hand-addressing hundreds of invitations, she was without a doubt the definition of Superwoman. I am so thankful that showing gratitude to her throughout the process made for an enjoyable planning period that we can both look back at fondly.

Another piece of advice I can give bride-to-be’s is to keep the meaning of your wedding at the core of planning. While of course the flowers and décor play their part, what’s most important is the celebration of love and the union of two people. When I would get stressed out, Blake did a great job reminding me what our wedding was about – us. Don’t sweat the small stuff (I promise it will come together in the end) and remember the purpose of your wedding. Keeping that in mind helped me to stay calm throughout the months leading up to our big day.

When the morning of our wedding finally arrived, we woke up to a feeling of genuine bliss. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Before Blake and I parted ways in preparation for the wedding, we took a drive to visit Blake’s mother’s gravesite and take in a calm moment together. I was so fortunate to have known Barbara when we dated in high school, and it was important to us that we recognize her on this monumental day. Her beautiful spirit was all around – from the vibrant sunset during the ceremony, to the breeze amid the trees and the single pink rose that Blake held in her honor as he walked down the aisle, she was certainly with us and so proud of Blake.

The bridal party arrived in the early afternoon to start getting ready at the estate adjacent to Villa Del Lago pavilion. I surprised everyone with the cutest floral robes by Plum Pretty Sugar and Blake’s cousin kindly kept restocking pink champagne for everyone as we got our hair and makeup done. We definitely felt like princesses – it was so much fun! I rarely have my makeup done professionally, but Monica at NAAVA Salon gave me such a gorgeous, natural yet enhanced look for the wedding. I liked a darker lip with full lashes and she achieved it perfectly! My glamorous hair (that stayed put all night!) was beautifully styled by Shannon at West End Salon. These ladies were a glam squad dream team!

Guests arrived to the outdoor venue greeted by chilled wine, a string quartet and a stunning lounge area outfitted by Loot Vintage. I about died when I saw that striped and gold sofa back during the planning period, and knew immediately it had to be at the wedding! It effortlessly exuded that classic, glamorous feel I adore so much.

As the sun was setting, I took my dads’ arm and we walked across the steps and towards the aisle. Blake and I opted not to do a first look, so with tears in my eyes and a heart so full it might burst, I glanced up and we locked eyes for the first time that night. To this day, I have never seen a smile so big on his face. I made my way to him and as we took each other’s hands, he mouthed “I love you so much,” and it was everything I ever wanted in that moment. I was so fulfilled. There we were, those same two teenagers who fell in love nine years ago…all the way to the young adults dressed in a tux and a wedding gown, professing their everlasting love for one another. We’ve changed a lot through the years, but our hearts have always remained connected.

What a feeling it is to promise your love to someone, surrounded by the people who matter most to you. Just like love, it’s not something to be described, it’s something to be felt.

A Gorgeous Alfresco Wedding Among the Vineyards

Surrounded by orchards and vineyards, this couple had the ultimate alfresco wedding. And just when we thought the scenery couldn’t possibly get any prettier, Fleurish Design Studio stepped in and designed what can best be described as pure floral arch awesomeness. Sneak a peek at the full celebration captured by Julia Park Photography with even more in the vault.

From the Photographer… Alex and Marian got married at one of the most beautiful Niagara Venues – Gracewood Estate. Their day was full of beautiful details – and most importantly pure joy, all around! The open air ceremony and reception among the orchards and the vineyards made everyone feel they were celebrating somewhere in warm Italy. Their ceremony set up included the most gorgeous flower branch and church pews.

All eyes were on Maria as she worked down the else with her dad holding her hand firmly. Alex was so giddy seeing his bride for the first time. He was smiling ear to ear, and as they joined their hands, they exchanged the cutest giggle. And you could see that at that moment nothing would make them happier than marrying each other. After a cocktail hour in the cooling shade of a peach orchard, the guests were invited to be seated in the garden of cherry trees for dinner.

The time of the year couldn’t have been better to be sitting under the cherry trees, as ripe cherries were hanging down, where you could reach some with your hands, without standing up! Talk about fresh snacks! As the dinner started, clouds covered the sky and at the end of the dinner, refreshing rain fell, and everyone continued the celebration under the tent. Cutting their cake surrounded by friends and family, while holding sparklers, was one highlight of the day.

What Started As A Rejection, Ended With The Ultimate Love Story

Not all love stories start with a magical spark and that’s exactly what makes this couples’ story perfect. When this bride brushed off a guy in a NYC restaurant, she didn’t know he would eventually steal her heart and become her husband! With a romantic cathedral ceremony followed by an elegant reception at the iconic Rainbow Room, this wedding was a picture-perfect celebration of love complete with dreamy florals crafted by Amaryllis. Glance over the entire day here, all captured flawlessly by Charlotte Jenks Lewis!

From the bride… Clay and I met in 2011 at a trendy restaurant in TriBeCa where I was working as a hostess. For the record, that first magical moment was actually a magical rejection. This restaurant was very popular among single men; as a result of that, I had ample opportunity to learn and master my “brush off” techniques. Little did I know that on this particular night, politely brushing off a tall, eager, charismatic, young man named Clay, would result in him falling madly in love with me. So much so, that the following night Clay headed back to the same restaurant, to try his luck with me again; and the rest is history.

Fast forward to 2015, when we were on a family trip in Barbados. Everyone knew he was going to propose on the trip except me. I had no idea. I actually got a manicure the day before choosing neon orange as my nail color. Not perfect for those first ring pictures! Clay proposed while we watched the sunrise over the ocean and said all the words every girl dreams of hearing. Everything about it was beautiful.

We opted for an October wedding as we were both hoping for a brisk day which is exactly what we got. We looked into many venues then someone suggested checking out The Rainbow Room and there was no turning back after that. As a little girl I dreamed of having a black tie wedding and always admired the beauty of The Rainbow Room from afar. I am from a small town in Maryland so it was very important to have some hometown influences. Enter our florist for a touch of home, Amaryllis out of Washington DC. The extremely talented geniuses behind Amaryllis happen live in my hometown! The flowers for the wedding were actually driven up to New York City. Some were even grown on their Maryland Farm. Before I get into all the details I have to first say that our day wouldn’t have been as remarkable without the professionalism of our vendors. Our photographer, Charlotte Jenks Lewis, who came highly recommended. I understand why now. She is effortlessly amazing at what she does. She captures the emotion of every moment. Our videographer, Shutter and Sound NYC, exceeding all expectations. We knew they were great but we were blown away by our video.

We booked the same Band that Clay’s sister used for her wedding, Central Park Orchestra. I have to admit that our friends and family like to dance to the radio but multiple people told us it was the best band at a wedding ever. John Benke, associate director of special events at the Rainbow Room, made everything easy and seamless for us. We got married at Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Soho. It was a traditional Catholic ceremony. Clay and I didn’t want to see each other beforehand. As much as everyone tried to talk us out of it, we held our ground. Nothing compares to that moment when you see each other for the first time. Clay wore his custom Against Nature tuxedo and I wore Lihi Hod. The bridesmaids wore Merlot colored dresses from David’s Bridal and the groomsman wore tuxedos from The Black Tux.

The night was perfectly magical for us. You try so hard not to miss a moment but it goes by so fast. The only moment of panic? The morning after, when I thought I had lost my “borrowed” family heirloom diamond earrings! Honeymoon advice… Two weeks in Italy, of course.

The Blueprint for Using Pantone’s Color of the Year in Your Wedding

Ask anyone who knows me well and they’ll tell you that I’m a lover of neutrals. Whether it’s my home, my style, and even weddings. But that’s not because I shy away from color, it’s more that I crave a good fresh backdrop to layer on those subtle hues. Especially when it comes to Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2017: greenery. That’s exactly why this shoot from Linen & Lilac has me wide-eyed. Ready to lose yourself in all the pretty? Join me in The Vault with these stunner images from Sorella Muse!

From Linen + LilacInspired by Pantone’s color of the year, Greenery, we sought to create a refined inspiration that combined a clean modern feel and sophisticated color palette with a nod to old-world European romance.

By keeping all the design elements neutral in color, the greenery is really allowed to pop without overwhelming the space, which is our favorite way to incorporate Pantone’s color of 2017. But neutrals don’t have to mean boring if you also utilize different textures. For example, the natural textures of the slate stone chargers contrast with the old world elegance of the vintage fine silver and bone flatware alongside silver accented glassware. While the hues of the tablescape are modern and minimal, the varied textures create visual interest. Balancing the formality of the flatware and table setting, we chose a simple knotted linen napkin to lay asymmetrically on the plate, accommodating the custom vellum menus created by Bowerbird Atelier. The elegant centerpiece brings in the Pantone’s choice of greenery with soft green hues accented by winter blooms, and is set asymmetrically to help facilitate easy conversation among guests seated across from each other. Tall grey taper candles and layered smaller arrangements balance out the tablescape.

The bride’s two piece skirt and lace top from Lace and Bustle is both contemporary and elegant while the long veil and blusher bring in the classic European romance, all accented by simple heirloom style jewelry from Susie Saltzman.

We think the best fine art inspiration walks the line between old and new, formal and unfussy, simplicity and luxuriousness. One of the best aspects of this year’s Pantone color is that it’s versatility means it can be incorporated with so many different wedding color palettes. So whether you’re going dark and moody or light and bright, sticking to pastel hues or vibrant jewel tones, consider adding this year’s Pantone color in to your design vision!
