Toasting to Five Years of Love… And Many More to Come!

I believe in celebrating every happy occasion and five years of marriage is, without a doubt, a moment to cheers to. So the pics from this anniversary shoot warmed my heart from the start… but it wasn’t just that. These two are what I like to call “relationship goals”; they know what is really important to them, and radiate that confidence and love in every one of these pics by Callie Davis of Nancy Ray Photography. That beautiful energy was captured as they smiled at the oh so pretty Pinehurst and they set the goal for themselves to do the same when they toast to 50 years of wedded bliss in the future… and I can’t wait to see it.

From Carrington Buck, lead planner at Erin McLean Events… Pinehurst is one of the most iconic little towns in North Carolina and is known around the world as the birthplace of American golf. But for us, it’s a little bit more. For Justin’s 30th birthday I gave him a gift that checked off a bucket list item for him, playing Pinehurst Number 2, one of the most famous courses in the country. Justin could eat, live, and breathe golf and be just fine and believe it or not, I could too (I am learning to play – but I love to watch!) Thus began our love affair with the tiny town that we one day would like to call home. From its authentic Southern hospitality, to the perfectly manicured golf courses, and the welcoming rocking chairs of the front veranda of the Carolina, this place embodies everything we love.

So on October 13th of this year, our marriage turned five, so we decided to ask our dear friend, Callie Davis, of Nancy Ray Photography to capture our relationship on camera to celebrate. It took me a little while to land on the right spot that was truly “us”. I kept thinking about Justin and I out in a random field and that almost made me laugh out loud – we are outdoorsy in that we like to have a cocktail on a warm sunny patio or beach somewhere in the Caribbean. Then we thought about downtown Raleigh, the place that we have called home for the last four years, and though we love Raleigh, that didn’t seem quite right either. Then it hit me, Pinehurst. One of the most beautiful, quaint, and peaceful places I’ve ever been but more importantly the place where Justin and I want to celebrate our 50th anniversary – the place we one day want to grow old together, preferably with champagne and plenty of afternoon golf outings.

So replacing playing Pinehurst Number 2 on our bucket list, one day doing this same shoot (Callie, are you up for it?!) when we are celebrating 50 years of marriage together. I hope when that day comes you’ll still be able to see the joy in our hearts – but more so, the love in our relationship – but more so, maybe the whole family we have built over our life together. Bring on the wrinkles!

Take a Peek at the Most Intimate Engagement Session We’ve Ever Seen

Intimate. It’s the only word needed to describe this at-home engagement session, captured so beautifully by Sally Pinera. And we’re kind of in love with the stripped down approach – the simplicity, romance, and raw emotion are enough to make our hearts skip a beat. So join us as we peek into the sweet, sweet moments shared by this gorgeous, New Yorker couple.

From Sally PineraEngagement sessions are a beautiful way to capture the intimate love between a couple. I would deem them to be just as important as the wedding photos because its just you two, nothing else – no dress, no guest, no vow book – just you two that make it special.

Annabelle and Carlos wanted their session to be as intimate as possible while showcasing the city that they met, fell in love, and lived in. It’s always important to not force things at an engagement session. Allowing natural rhythms, natural movements, and natural stages to happen give way to magical moments! For Annabelle and Carlos, we had an intimate yet playful session indoors in the comfort of a bed. There were no frills, no crazy mountain backdrops, no gown or flowers. Just the two of them, in love, in the comfiest clothes. With that, we headed into the hustle of the city and walked around Central Park and the iconic Top of the Rock to finish their session as true New York lovers.

8 Experiences To Gift The Person Who Has It All

It’s the season of giving and perhaps you have someone on their list who has it all. Instead of racking your brain trying to find the one thing they don’t already have, gift them with an experience that will enrich their life, long after the holiday festivities fade away.

Here’s a few ideas to wow those on your ‘nice’ list.

For the photographer: provide another perspective, with a helicopter ride. It gives your photo loving friends the ultimate view (perfect for the ‘Gram), while also providing a one of kind experience. Last summer I took a ride with Chicago Helicopter Experience and it’s something I still talk about today. Google ‘helicopter ride’ alongside your desired city to find a vendor nearby. This also makes a romantic and scenic gift for anyone about to head on their honeymoon. Prices vary and begin at $115 per person.

For the person curious about their ancestry: give them a chance to learn about where they come from, with DNA mapping kit courtesy of 23andMe. Got someone who wants to know more than just their roots? Upgrade to include a health report. Kits start at $99.

For the music lover: When it comes to guitar lessons, ditch the traditional theory method and switch to digital courtesy of Fender Play. Featuring instructor-guided videos and customized curriculum based on experience and genre, beginners can learn songs in minutes. It also makes it easy for someone to squeeze in their hobby, whenever it works for their schedule. $19.99 per month, $99.99 for 6 months, $159.99 for 12 months. Psst: On sale for $9.99 through the end of the year!

For your wine connoisseur: Heading to California’s vineyards for wine tasting is fun, but elevate the experience by blending your own bottle of vino at Wente Vineyards. The 90-120 minute class is priced at $95. For something closer to home, gift a wine tasting class through a nearby restaurant, wine bar or community college (that way when they do make it to the West Coast, they’ll be ready!).

For your free spirit pal: Acupuncture and yoga classes make great gifts for holistic health friends, but why not kick the energy up with an intuitive crystal reading or closet cleanse via Style Rituals. A recent report says women are flocking to wellness and this is the kind of experience someone might be curious about, but might hesitate to pull the trigger. Price varies depending on the service. Not ready to go full new age? Give the gift of a structured meditation class.

For your foodie: You could gift someone a meal at one of the world’s best restaurants, or get them something more specific, like Petrossian’s Caviar 301 class in LA. Students are led through a tasting of some of the most expensive caviars, along with a caviar-centric dinner. Reservations are required and cost $125 per person. If you can’t make it to LA, try Sur la Table which provides a variety of classes nationwide.

For the treat yourself set: Perfect for the person who loves Europe and relaxation. Get them a few hours of both with a visit to the Aire Ancient Baths. The Spanish spa company is known for its elaborate (and massive) Ancient Roman-themed bathhouses. Treatments begin at $70 but if you’re looking to gift a local option, look at hotels in your area. They typically offer a spa area (think hot tubs, cold baths, steam and sauna room) to unwind before and after services.

For the 90’s music babe: Snag them tickets to see Britney Spears last show in Vegas. Last summer, I attended this show with my mom and sister on an impromptu girls trip. it was everything my high school self could have ever dreamed of. However, if Vegas isn’t possible, check to see who’s on tour and gift tickets for shows in your hometown. Foo Fighters (another band with 90s nostalgia) and Taylor Swift have both announced 2018 tour dates.

For the thrillseeker: Because at some point everyone makes it out to Vegas (and perhaps Britney is not your jam), get down to Old Town in Vegas and zipline your way across Fremont street courtesy of Slotzilla. Experiences range from $25-$45. Other options (Vegas or not) to consider: indoor or outdoor skydiving.

For someone with a sweet tooth: Get them to 240Sweet in Columbus, Indiana so they can learn how to turn sugar into a tasty marshmallow concoction. The class is growing in national prominence and at $30 per person, it’s a fun and cost effective reason to visit the Midwest. For a closer alternative, check in with your local sweet shop or baker. Many small businesses offer monthly classes for customers to get a hands-on experience.

We’re Putting the Prettiest Stationery of the Year Under the Spotlight

Before my time at Style Me Pretty, I spent my days designing invitations and printing them on my antique 1,500 lb. letterpress. To say I love pretty paper is without a doubt the biggest understatement. Thankfully, I still get to experience stunning stationery on the daily and this past year sure was a doozy for invitations. From covered-in-calligraphy to modernly elegant, these designs deserve to be under our shining spotlight.

The Chicest Ballroom Wedding Overlooking the White House

In the age of gorgeous garden weddings, a thoroughly modern ballroom affair is like a magic unicorn. It only comes around once in awhile but when it does, we are alllll about it. This DC celebration styled by Lauryn Prattes brings together acrylic, marble, green vine installations by Sweet Root Village and chic tablescapes that go way beyond your typical modern affair. Dive into this glamorous day with a Whitehouse view captured by Lisa Zeising for Abby Jiu Photography and a film by East West too!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/202155723 600 338]

From the Photographer… Lauren and Rand had a difficult year prior to their engagement enduring the loss of Lauren’s mother and Rand’s own battle with cancer, which he thankfully overcame. Because of this they wanted their wedding to be intimate and reflect those nearest and dearest in their life, and those who had supported them through it all. Their wedding day was filled with love, laughter and warmth filled the room.

Lauren and Rand had selected the Hay Adams for it’s amazing views of the city as well as light and airy room. To really make the room a light, bright and chic space we installed custom wall to wall white carpet creating a completely neutral and blank canvas. The wedding design was inspired by the young and modern city chic couples new home, which featured white cabinets, marble countertops and clean minimalist decor. A soft color palette came to life for the wedding of white, grey and marble was accented by the tiniest touches of lavender and plum.

Setting the tone for the wedding day the invitation suite featured a marble letterpress invitation tied with a custom dyed grey silk ribbon, grey envelope with a casual calligraphy font and mix of grey, black and white vintage postage – all sealed with a white wax seal. As guests arrived to DC they were greeted with welcome boxes showcasing some of DC’s best local treats – custom marble heart cookies from Buttercream Bakeshop, cheese stamps from Kinderhook and coffee from Compass Coffee.

The ceremony took place in the dark, wooded lower level ballroom. Warm candelight and white drape filled the space and a marble printed program was placed inside an acrylic floating frame from Artifact Uprising, accented with greenery.

Following the ceremony guests moved upstairs to cocktail hour and were treated to a Tonic Bar in honor of the couples favorite cocktail – a gin and tonic. The custom tonic bar was finished with a marble top and behind a smoke grey acrylic menu was accented by a decanter light installation and fresh greens. Guests could select from His and Hers cocktails, or build their own tonic with a variety of garnishes.

A favorite detail from the evening was the escort display – marble hexagon tiles were edged in gold and then calligraphed with each guests seating assignment – the tiles were then velcro’d to smoke grey acrylic so guests could take their tile with them to their seats. A lounge vignette featuring marble topped tables with gold bases finished off the space.

Following cocktails curtains pulled back to reveal a breathtaking dinner space. The intimate wedding size of 110 was perfect for 2 long dramatic tables sweeping across the front room so guests could dine overlooking the White House. Tables featured a stunning display of crystal candelabra’s accented by various height taper candles and votives – not a single bloom was placed on the table. Above a lush ceiling of greenery and delicate lavender and plum flowers danced among crystal chandeliers.

Place settings consisted of hand made “faux” marble chargers topped with grey plates, napkins tied with marbled silk ribbon and were finished with a velum menu and matte gold and white flatware.

The couple live down the street from DC’s newest and favorite bakery, Buttercream Bakeshop. They designed a marble cake delicately adorned with flecks of gold foil which sat atop a lucite column surrounded by candlelight.

This Wedding Editorial Will Make You Dream of the Bahamas

Cold weather is not my jam, and having spent the past week in London where the temps were much lower than ideal, this beach Bahama wedding editorial photographed by Simply Sarah is literally my dream. Molly McKinley Designs created a casual, modern affair inspired by the existing aesthetic of The Cove Eleuthera, Bahamas. My favorite part is the foraged floral details by Boy Meets Girl Weddings…or maybe its the dreamy stationery by Lazywood Lane. I can’t choose! It’s all so good.

From Simply Sarah PhotographyThe Cove Eleuthera is the perfect backdrop for a Caribbean wedding. The architecture and decor are crisp and clean, but it still feels like home. In planning this shoot, we wanted to keep true to the resort’s casual modern style, so the design felt like an extension of the beauty that already existed there. Our invitation suite from Lazywood Lane felt modern and fresh, without a lot of calligraphy. My favorite touch was the abstract drawing of Eleuthera! The vellum invitation over the textured leaf paper made the suite different and interesting.

We decided to set up the ceremony down on one of the island’s small beaches. Clear ghost chairs allowed a full view of the ocean. Our florist created an organic “garden” in the sand with local greenery, opened white roses, and tall sea oats from the island. The sea oats played with the island breeze, dancing back and forth. We wanted to enhance the natural beauty of the Bahamas and our couple, and this ceremony did just that.

The reception was intimate and incorporated more organic textures. We set our table underneath the palms at The Cove, which felt even more magical as the sun began to set. The pathways throughout the property glowed with ambient light. Our florist found some beautiful and interesting textures on the island to incorporate into the tablescape. The napkins were tied with woven rope and oyster shells, for a subtle beachy touch. Black minimalist candelabras kept true to the design of The Cove and added height. A gauzy runner woven with greenery added a feminine, romantic feel.

The Perfect Tie for Your Guy

When it comes to planning your wedding, a ton of attention gets paid to the dress, and menswear can fall by the wayside. Whether your groom will rock a tux, choose a suit, or wear certain socks are all details that need to be taken into consideration. One of those important details? The tie!

So which tie should your new husband wear on your big day? Here are a few options.

Classic: If you’re having a formal or traditional wedding, a classic tie is the way to go. This is the type of tie you most often see in office settings or at formal events. Match the color of the tie with the bridesmaids’ dresses, or go with a neutral like gray or black. A standard tie is anywhere from 55-58 inches long.

Skinny: Skinny ties became a hit in the 60s when bands like The Beatles popularized them. Skinny ties are a slightly hipster, fashion-forward choice that can be a great accessory for a modern wedding.

Bowtie: Bowties can range from very formal (worn with a tuxedo) to very informal (quirky patterns or bright colors that match the wedding theme). They’re a versatile choice for stylish grooms. They fit snugly around your neck and your groom can wear a different color than his groomsmen to stand out.

Ascot: An ascot is a very formal choice. Ascots are ties with wider wings usually reserved for morning or daytime affairs. If you’re having a formal daytime wedding, an ascot could be the right choice.

What about fabrics? Some great lightweight fabrics are great for summer, like silk, linen, or cotton. Having a winter wonderland soiree? Lean more towards wool or cashmere.

Also, don’t forget about the care and keeping of your groom’s tie. Ties shouldn’t be folded; they should either be hung on a tie rack or laid flat. Make sure there are no creases or wrinkles so that the ties — both your groom’s and his groomsmen’s — look their best for the big day.

Six Steps to Mastering the Art of Gift Wrapping

I LOVE everything about the first wrapping session of the season but by time gift #3 rolls around, I’m a mess of tape and rumpled paper and 10 seconds away from throwing in the towel and just buying a gift bag. Before you call it quits, take a few helpful hints from Jen Leslie Events. She is breaking down the anatomy of the perfect wrap job plus there just might be some freebie gift tags by Anchored Paper & Co. Get inspired to go for the gold this holiday season with these pretty packages all captured by Katie Parra.

Each year, as the holidays approach, I spend some time thinking about how I will wrap my holiday presents. You see my love for wrapping started years ago when I was a little girl. My Mom is extremely crafty and always spent hours wrapping each gift that went under our tree. I used to sit on the floor in her bedroom watching her wrap, and as I grew older helping her. It was a fun activity we enjoyed together and it meant I got to spend time with her as we wrapped, watched holiday movies or listened to festive music and drank eggnog. Now with a family of my own, I take pride wrapping my gifts and challenging my creativity each year to come up with something new.

This year I decided to create two designs- one a little more feminine with a color palette of blush, gold, cream and white, and the second, paying homage to my Pacific Northwest surroundings and the mountain men in my life, has a color palette of hunter green, chocolate brown, taupe, and cream. My designs tend to start with a neutral base with textured accessories layered in the various color palette.

How to Master the Art of Wrapping

Pick 3 primary colors for each of your designsA great design starts with three colors that you can add various shades of each into the mix. For the more feminine design I started with pink, gold and white. Select your base colors, wrapping paper in this case, and keep them neutral. I felt that the gold and white were the best neutrals for this design. Then I used various shades of pink for my pops of color and even added in other white and gold textures. For the more woodsy design I started with green, brown and white. I used kraft paper and white wrapping paper with brown watercolor antlers painted on it from minted. Com, as my neutral base. I then added various brown, green and white ribbons and embellishments. Incorporating the variation is the fun part, so trust your gut and go for it!

It starts with great paperI can’t stress this enough. How many times have you been wrapping a precarious package and the wrapping paper ripped because it wasn’t high quality and couldn’t bend under pressure? To me, it’s worth the investment in high quality and beautiful wrapping paper. Not only are my presents easier to wrap, but they look crisp and the box underneath is hidden completely. Paper Source is one of my favorite sources for wrapping paper. For this year’s gifts I even experimented with their fine paper for the first time and loved them!

You can never have too much ribbon! – My growing ribbon collection is one of my favorite things. In my opinion you can never have too much and there are endless widths, textures, colors and types to choose from. As you begin to create your wrapping paper design and pull your elements together, be sure you have a variety of ribbon to work with. My favorites include raw silk, satin, velvet and cotton ribbon. Blush twine and a new chocolate brown suede ribbon were fun additions to my collection this year.

You don’t always have to tie a bowWhile a simple bow can sometimes be the default, challenge yourself to try something new! Maybe that’s simply tying ribbon flat around the package (I like to use double sided tape on the back to hide my mechanics), and adding embellishments. Or perhaps you like the geometric look. For this one I used one continuous piece of twine and tied it around and around the package in various patterns and directions. Sometimes it’s helpful to adhere a little tape on the back in a few places to keep things intact, but the final look is stunning. Even if you default to a bow, try centering it off to one side so it appears in an unexpected spot.

Add fresh foliage – Being a floral designer (as well as an event planner and designer), I can’t resist the opportunity to add fresh foliage to my packages. Here in the Northwest the winter still offers an abundance of foliage from fir, to pine, winterberry, holly, and more. Simply head outside to see what you can forage and slip onto the top of your presents. You don’t need much and you’d be surprised how glamorous it can make your gifts.

Gift tags in various sizes/shapesIt’s crucial to have a gift tag on each of your presents, so we’ve made it easy for you by sharing the exact gift tags we used from Anchored Paper and Co! Click here for the woodland themed tags and here for the gold tags.  I love Carolyn’s designs because each one is a different size, which is so helpful for the various size packages you will be wrapping. Plus they all include a “to” and “from” area so I can write a special note, and best of all she’s outlined where to hole punch so I can attach it to the gift (no lopsided tags!). A gift tag in your design color palette will make your look complete and adds such a special touch.

I hope you enjoy wrapping your holiday presents this year now that you have inspiration for two different color palettes and designs, 6 tips to get your started plus adorable gift tags! Pour yourself a glass of eggnog, put on your favorite holiday movie and get to wrapping. Happy Holidays!

Gorgeous Flowers Are Everywhere (Seriously!) at This Wedding

Our motto at SMP: You can never have too many flowers. So this Lauritzen Garden wedding is making us swoon. Florals abound from the real pressed flowers attached to the ceremony programs to the wall of champagne-flavored lollipops containing edible blooms! Ashley Crawford photographed the botanical affair, perfectly planned by Lovestruck Events.

From Lovestruck Events… Kaitlin and Matt were married in mid-June. The couple chose Lauritzen Gardens to host their reception, so we used the venue’s lush botanical setting as the main inspiration for their wedding. Once Kaitlin shared a photo of her sleek wedding gown with us, we knew we needed to add a modern and sophisticated twist to their garden-inspired wedding. We used a pressed flower motif to add a bold graphic element to the stationery suite. Real pressed flowers were attached to the ceremony programs, and champagne-flavored lollipops with edible flowers adorned their modern escort display. In lieu of cake, guests enjoyed various flavored cheesecakes while dancing under the glowing lights strung across the Floral Display Hall.

From the bride, Kaitlin… We wanted to create an evening that felt elegant, yet comfortable, modern yet warm. We had our sights set on Lauritzen Gardens for its visual interest, and the space allowed for our guests to wander and mingle. We loved the idea to juxtapose modern, sleek elements with the organic backdrop of the gardens. The warm, mixed florals popped against a color palette of white, black, navy, and gold. The wall of floral lollipops as seating cards had such a visual impact, and our guests raved about the originality! We had so much fun dancing with our family and friends. The skylights, planters, and string lights made the dance floor feel like an outdoor setting.

One piece of advice that I would give a bride-to-be is to save yourself a lot of stress by not getting caught up with the latest trends and “expectations” of what a wedding should look like. Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say! I had complete faith in Lovestruck to create a day that was beautiful and updated, but more than anything, felt like us.

No Matter Your Style, You Want a Platinum Ring. Here’s Why.

It goes without saying: shopping for engagement rings is awesome. But if you find yourself focusing on just the gemstone and style, take note, you guys: your choice of metal is equally as important. Because when it comes to keeping your sparkler safe – platinum can truly make all of the difference.

Ring shopping is one of those life-changing experiences that you dream about on the daily – so we know it’s easy to get carried away with all of the glitz and glamour of finding the perfect diamond or gemstone. (We’ve been there, done that.) But once you and yours land on a fave, take some time to focus on the metal (learn more about that here), so you can keep your diamond safe. Ask any jeweler and they’ll tell you  – even though they might be the smallest component of your engagement ring, platinum prongs are where it’s at. Why? Because platinum is stronger and denser than gold and has absolutely no “memory” – so when your prongs are placed, you can be sure they won’t move an inch. Gold can actually settle back into its original place when its being shaped, weakening it and making it more apt to break later. Platinum actually hardens as its being shaped, making it stronger. Crazy, right?!?

So we know it’s all about the sparkle, and if you want your diamond to basically shine the minute you hit the light, you’ll need those prongs to help you out. Honestly, your ring can take a daily beating, so making sure they’re secure when they fall off the counter or snag on that new sweater is so important. Not to mention that the “true white” of platinum prongs will make your sparkler shine even more. And you can’t argue with that.

For tips on settings, gorgeous galleries and more, check out Platinum Guild International. They’ll definitely be the guide you need when choosing your perfect engagement ring… and your source for all things on the metal you NEED to get to know.

A Blush + White Elegant Country Club Celebration

This gorgeous gown set the stage for one absolutely lovely celebration that just gets better and better with every glance through this gallery. With delicate white flowers cascading down the bodice, leading right to an equally beautiful bouquet, we have a blush and gold elegant affair that we can’t stop pinning. Caroline Lima captured it all for our viewing pleasure and her pics are pretty much making our day – see them all right this way!

From Caroline Lima… When I met Brooke and Brad for their engagement session back in February, I knew their wedding was going to be something special! These two are so much fun to spend time with, so very much in love… they can make one another laugh with just a glance! When we parted ways that day I immediately began to look forward to their wedding, knowing that their celebration would be as joyous and sweet as they are… and I wasn’t wrong!

The ceremony took place at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with the following reception moving to the Charlotte Country Club. Brooke was such a dream to work with; getting ready, she was ahead of time and completely calm. And she looked absolutely stunning!! Her dress was so beautiful and unique, with spaghetti straps, and white flowers cascading down the bodice onto the skirt. It fit her perfectly, and when Brad dipped her at the altar it was magical! As much fun as I was having (I kept laughing behind my camera during the amazing toasts!) I also found myself swept into the emotion of the day. If you read my blog, you know I love emotional weddings… and I have to confess that I teared up during the first dances. Before long, the bride and groom were completely rocking the dance floor, and all of their guests joined in with such excitement and happiness! What a crazy dance floor and I love it!

Finally, I have to mention that Brooke shared something very meaningful with me. She told me that her father worked for National Geographic for several years. If you are familiar with National Geographic, you know that he might have seen truly incredible photography, so when Brooke was vetting wedding photographers, she asked for her dad’s opinion. He looked over some of the options, and then told Brooke she should book me because I knew how to capture emotions the best. This is such a huge compliment! When I fell in love with photography, it was because of the ability a photograph has to show people’s feelings. Hearing that Brooke’s dad saw the emotion in my work was huge validation that I’m on the right path, and I was so grateful to have been part of their big day. Very special to watch Brooke and Brad tie the knot in a swirl of so much love and support!

Escape to Morocco With This Wedding Built for Two

If you have your sights set on a destination wedding, then Morocco is about to shoot to the top of that list. Guaranteed. Bright colors, dream desert landscapes and local flavor are all layered within this celebration built for two with florals by Remi + Gold and stunning paper goods by Boarding School Collective. Get inspired for a gorgeous desert riad escape through the images of Sophie Epton.

From Sophie Epton Photography… At the very North end of Africa lies Morocco- one of the most magical countries in the world. And none more beautiful, mysterious and intoxicating than the city of Marrakech. The hustle and bustle of city medina and its mazes, the pinky peach crumbling walls, the incredible installations of zellige tiles shimmering like jewels, the rows of colorful wool rugs and carved wood furniture, the amazing doorways leading to the next adventure, and the expansive deserts surrounding the city that make you feel like you are in another world. For our elopement inspiration in Marrakech, we wanted to illustrate how this place could serve as the most incredible backdrop for an elopement for any couple wanting to marry in a unique, adventurous way, and a wedding that can break all the rules! To begin, our couple Chayma and Youssef started off their day at sunrise with a “first look” in the Agafay Desert, the most picturesque, vast landscape right outside of Marrakech. Chayma looked absolutely stunning in her Tatyana Merenyuk gown, complete a gorgeous Susie Saltzman pear ring design and flowing cape that picked up the wind perfectly for their shots, while Youssef recreated the classic “Casablanca” Humphrey Bogart look modernized from the Black Tux. We then headed to a private riad in the center of the medina. Chayma changed into a marvelous, intricate Claire Pettibone gown that truly complimented the artisan tilework covering every square inch of the riad juxtaposed and glowing rose-colored rooftop, adding such stunning scenery for both an intimate ceremony and romantic dinner experience. Twyla with Remi and Gold did the most amazing job sourcing florals for two days, picking up everything from bougainvillea trees from nurseries to garden roses from flower markets, creating the most lush, vibrant kaleidoscope of florals seen throughout the entire day. And Boarding School Collective created so many fantastic touches of their written art- from the Moroccan-tile inspired watercolor invite suite to the lucite menu to the linen chair drapings painted with “Habibi” (husband/ wife) that added such a personal touch and story to the elopement. While traditional weddings are one of lives’ best celebrations, we wanted to feature the idea that traveling elopements can allow a couple who have a soft spot for wanderlust and a love of adventure the chance to celebrate their union in an intimate way that truly speaks to their own hearts and experience. And when you add Morocco to the mix.. Well it doesn’t get any better than that!

5 Tips for Stress-Free Decorating this Holiday Season

With the crisp in the air getting ever more pronounced I simply can’t wait for evenings spent driving past beautiful light displays in my neighborhood. I love everyone’s unique take on holiday decorations. However, the holidays can also be a stressful time of year in many ways.

Decorating and preparing for the holidays should be an enjoyable part of the season so I’m sharing five must-know tips for stress-free decorating.

Sometimes Less is More
Descending into the basement after Thanksgiving and unearthing piles of holiday decor boxes can be quite overwhelming. What’s more, the thought of pulling out all those little trinkets and garlands can feel like an insurmountable feat.

No one said you have to use every single holiday decoration you have each and every year. The holidays are about family and the goes for decorating as well. Decide what’s important to your family and leave the rest of the boxes for another year. No matter how many candles are on your mantle or how many evergreen garlands you drape, the family that helps place those items are far more important at the end of the day.

Undecorate First
I’ve always thought it’s best to start any project with a clean slate. You do the dishes before you make your next meal, you pack up beachwear before you bring out your sweaters, so the same should hold true for holiday decor.

Instead of adding more decorations to an already fully styled and decorated house, take some time to undecorate your place first to give yourself a blank canvas to outfit for the festivities. While it may seem odd to take down some of your staple home decorations, doing this will help you feel more at peace and your seasonal decorations will truly shine.

Utilize Fresh Elements
I’m a sucker for the seasonal section in all my favorite stores. While I may already have enough ornaments to decorate all the Christmas trees in my neighborhood, I always find myself enamored by new holiday trinkets. Inevitably, I accumulate a few new decor items every year and after a while, all those little items start to add up.

What I love about utilizing fresh elements in your seasonal house styling is that you don’t have to worry about post-holiday clutter. I am a die-hard fan of fresh Christmas trees and appreciate the fact that I don’t have to store a fake tree for 11 months a year. The same goes for fresh wreaths and evergreen garlands.

Concentrate Your Focus
Where do you spend the majority of your time during the holidays? In my family, we cycle between the kitchen and the living room all winter long. My favorite place during the holidays is cuddled up with mulled cider and a fire in the living room. I’ve come to realize it really doesn’t matter how the bathroom, mudroom, or hallway are decorated.

While a nice spiced candle or small wreath is a quaint touch to any space, don’t feel the need to go overboard on areas where people won’t spend large amounts of time. Focus your energy on the areas you’ll spend most of your time. In the end, that will bring you the most joy!

Highlight Your Existing Decor
My parents have a gorgeous mantle over their fireplace and curate a beautiful winter scene on the mantle every year. A few of my neighbors have truly stunning front stoops and spend a little extra effort on their potted plants and front door decor. An easy way to ensure you love your holiday decor is to play to the strengths of your favorite nooks and crannies in your house.

If you already love your dining room table during the other months of the year, it stands to reason that you would enjoy making a holiday tablescape to highlight the table’s beauty. However, if you find yourself struggling to enjoy decorating your bar cart during the spring or summer, don’t let yourself get frustrated decorating it this winter. Find the areas in your house that are most life-giving to you and focus on highlighting those areas!

What do you do to de-stress during the holiday decorating season? I would love to hear your tips and tricks for staying calm this year!

What Will Meghan Markle Wear Down the Aisle? Here’s Our Best Guess

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged, the countdown is on until their royal wedding this spring. And while we can’t wait to see the venue, the flowers, the cake, the bridesmaids’ dresses and all the other gorgeous details, let’s be real — it’s the dress that we’re really dying to see.

Thankfully, we’re not completely in the dark. Before the 2016 season 3 finale of Suits (in which her character, Rachel Zane, wore a stunning “classic and fairytale”-inspired gown by Anne Barge), Markle gave us a little insight into the wedding dress of her dreams.

“Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist. I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic,” she said.

“Delphine Manivet and Christos Costarellos are faves of mine for their uniqueness and beauty,” Markle told Glamour at the time. “And I will always be a fan of Elie Saab. J. Mendel is spectacular as well, especially for more structural designs.”

As for her celebrity wedding dress inspo, there’s no question whose gown takes the proverbial (wedding) cake: “Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Everything goals.”

So, we’re making an educated guess on what Ms. Markle will wear, because, why not?! See our picks below!

Elie Saab

Costarellos

J. Mendel

Delphine Manivet
