An Organic, Earthy Tented Wedding on Family Land

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Earth Tones – Shades of Olive Green, Taupes, Browns, Soft Pinks, Whites.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Hosting our intimate tented wedding on Lucas’ grandparents’ land was a dream come true. We had talked and dreamed about getting married here for many years. Being in the wedding industry myself, I knew I wanted the location of our wedding to feel like us, and this special property felt like exactly that, us. Sharing this sentimental place with all of our family and friends on our wedding day was so beyond special. The design and vision for our day was inspired by the property, and it’s nature, along with our other favorite places and things. We wanted to create a warm and organic dinner party environment, filled with organic flowers, lots of texture, and intentional details that reflected our love story – such as our love for bistro restaurants, fun cocktails, pizza, upbeat music, and our favorite people.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Lucas proposed at one of our favorite outlooks in the town we live in, starting the next chapter of our love story. It was a chilly October day, and we ran errands in the morning, and then Lucas insisted on going for a little walk to the outlook. We admired the fall color together, and when I turned around, Lucas was on one knee. Just the two of us, surrounded by the crisp fall Wisconsin air, it was a perfectly simple and such meaningful moment that we will always treasure. After some time together soaking up the moment, we went to see all of our family and friends to share the special news!

My wedding gown was beaded with a delicate vine and floral pattern and had a detachable tulle skirt. I loved how it gave me two distinct looks from a romantic, whimsical, flowing style to a more sleek, sophisticated silhouette.

The groomsmen wore traditional black tuxes. Their crisp attire complemented the groom’s black tux, which had black button covers and black velvet shoes for that extra special touch.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

For cocktail hour we served Charcuterie and Caprese Salad along side our cocktail menu that offered our favorite cocktails, beer, wine and mocktails. When guests sat for dinner they were served family style focaccia bread, salad, and wood fired pizzas made on site. It felt like the perfect warm and comforting dinner party with our favorite people. Following dinner, we hosted a second cocktail hour that we called Espresso Martini Hour, where we served Coffee & Dessert, and of course, Espresso Martinis, with fun upbeat house music until it was time to hit the dance floor.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

As someone who loves flowers, this was a very important part of our day. With Briar Loft’s earthy and organic neutral approach, our floral elements elevated our design and blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings. For our ceremony, we opted for a lush white and green ground arch that framed us perfectly in front of large trees on the property for our “I Dos.” A linen memory sign marked my dad’s chair, keeping his presence close to our hearts. As a unity ceremony, Lucas and I planted an olive tree with soil from both our childhood homes and the property. Inside our tent, we had greens delicately hanging from the cafe lights to give the dining experience that extra touch of whimsical nature. We created a cozy, organic, home-like design by using a thoughtful blend of textures and elements, including wooden bentwood chairs, a mix of white linen and taupe velvet tablecloths, and hemstitched napkins with wooden napkin rings. We wanted guests to feel comfortable, cozy at our backyard dinner party.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Our simple, white wedding cake was displayed on a wooden cake stand, decorated with delicate olive branch twigs, adding a touch of organic charm.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

We wanted our cocktail hour and reception to feel upbeat and exciting, with music that was non-traditional to weddings, yet inclusive of all guests. With a love for a variety of music, we carefully curated a playlist for each portion of our day with the help of our DJ, David Charles Pro, filled with a blend of European and American house music and timeless classics, which set the perfect tone for a lively celebration for the duration of our day. Our wedding ceremony was a deeply personal and emotional celebration. Our string trio, Yahara Stings, played our processional music, beginning with Lucas’s parents walking him down the aisle to Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling in Love, followed by our wedding party walking down to Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles. And finally, my brothers walking me down the aisle to Bridgerton’s Heart and Flowers Ball played by our string trio, a moment I will never forget. Inspired by the way music evokes emotion in movies, we chose to start our recessional music during our “I Do’s.” We selected the end of M83’s Outro, which slowly increased volume, building anticipation as we approached our first kiss. The Song crescendoed at the perfect moment, giving us and our guests a touch of goosebumps as we shared our first kiss and walked down the aisle as husband and wife.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

Our “Favorite People and Places” Seating Card Display was a heartfelt tribute featuring framed photos and maps of our most cherished locations. We decorated the shelves with lamps, plants, and travel books, which created an inviting, home-like display that celebrated our love store. Guests loved exploring this personal piece, taking photos in front of it, and sharing in the memories it represented.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Our bar in the reception tent was a labor of love, as we designed and built both the bar and shelving ourselves to bring our unique vision to life. It was such a meaningful project to create together, adding a personal touch to our wedding day. Sharing this special piece with our guests made it even more memorable, as it became a focal point of the tent and overall design.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]We incorporated the southern tradition of burying a bottle of bourbon upside down, one month before our wedding day. Tradition says if you do it properly, it will ensure beautiful weather on your wedding day. Come wedding day, we had the most beautiful, sunny September day in Wisconsin. After the ceremony, we dug up the bottle and shared a celebratory drink with our guests. We are so happy that we took part in this fun and memorable tradition, that worked in our favor![/field]

An Intentional and Artistic Fall Celebration at Fairmont Grand Del Mar

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

We wanted to create a warm and inviting fall vibe while steering away from the typical autumn color palette. The bride envisioned incorporating a unique blend of soft pinks and purples that felt fresh and unexpected for the season. To complement this, we added rich, deep tones that brought dimension and elegance, perfectly capturing the essence of fall in a more modern and personalized way.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The overall design vision was to create an elevated garden party that felt intimate, whimsical, and inviting. Each space was thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in a magical atmosphere. Our talented florist, The Little Fleur Co., brought this vision to life with vibrant, lush florals and the glow of twinkling candles. The luxurious linens from BBJ La Tavola added an elegant touch, while custom, personalized details like bespoke stationery and linen napkins tied everything together beautifully.

The bride’s gown was nothing short of a showstopper. Purchased from Iconic Brides Dallas, this breathtaking Leah Da Gloria design struck the perfect balance of timeless elegance, modern sophistication, and a touch of magic. It fit our radiant bride flawlessly and seamlessly complemented the enchanting vibe of the day.

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

The bridesmaids’ dresses featured a stunning mix of pinks and purples, perfectly complementing the color palette. Each dress showcased a unique texture and pattern, adding a touch of individuality and dimension to the overall design. This thoughtful variety created a cohesive yet dynamic look, while the flower girls charmed everyone in their light pink dresses adorned with delicate bows on the back, adding an extra layer of sweetness to the day.

The gentlemen looked dashing in classic black tuxedos, each exuding timeless sophistication. The groom, however, made a bold statement in a striking white tuxedo, effortlessly standing out and adding a touch of distinctive elegance to the celebration.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]The Fairmont Grand Del Mar wowed guests with its exceptional cuisine and crafted cocktails. The evening began with exquisite hors d’oeuvres, followed by a delectable three-course meal featuring a fresh salad, delicate crudo, and a choice of beef tenderloin, sea bass, or butternut squash ravioli. The couple’s signature cocktails added a personal touch, with the Frenchie 75 (a twist on the classic French 75) as a tribute to their beloved French Bulldog. Guests also enjoyed a selection of Negroni, Espresso Martini, and a refreshing Hibiscus Mocktail, offering something for every palate.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Designing this day was an absolute joy for us, and we loved every detail that came together. For the ceremony, we embraced the natural beauty of the Fairmont Grand Del Mar chapel, utilizing their stunning chapel pews. Our talented florist lined the aisle with lush florals, adding vibrant pops of color that enhanced the already breathtaking space. Some of our favorite reception elements included the luxurious velvet and patterned linens from BBJ La Tavola, paired with custom monogrammed napkins for each guest at their place setting. The mix of long and round tables brought an elegant balance to the space, complemented by light cane dining chairs, pink water goblets and cream decorative charger plates. Custom menus, created by the bride herself, added a personal touch, while meal indicators featuring an adorable butterfly brought the perfect pop of garden charm to the elevated reception setting. To soften the large reception space, we thoughtfully incorporated trees from San Diego Interior Foliage, creating a more intimate and welcoming atmosphere.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The wedding cake, created by the beloved local bakery Sugar and Scribe from La Jolla, was a true standout. A delectable coconut cake with coconut and vanilla buttercream, it was as delicious as it was charming. The cake featured sweet details, including playful depictions of the couple’s adorable pups and vibrant floral accents, making it the perfect finishing touch to the celebration.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Guests were welcomed into the ceremony space by the enchanting sounds of a string quartet, setting the tone for a truly memorable day. As the reception began, a live band ushered guests in with the timeless tune “Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac. The bride and groom shared their first dance to the romantic classic “La Vie En Rose” by Louis Armstrong, creating a magical moment. The band continued to play throughout dinner and dancing, infusing the night with vibrant energy that kept the celebration going strong.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

One of the most meaningful details of the day was the fact that the bride designed all the day-of stationery, signage, and the invitation suite herself. As an artist, this was the perfect way to showcase her talent and passion for the celebration. Each piece was thoughtfully crafted, infused with her love and excitement for the day and it all came together beautifully, adding a deeply personal touch to the overall design and making the event feel even more special.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

A second line band guided guests from the ceremony to cocktail hour and was the perfect way to kick off the celebration, creatively honoring the groom’s Southern roots. This lively band not only set the tone for the party but also led guests to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, continuing to play throughout the cocktail hour and keeping the energy high.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

The couple’s beloved Frenchie, Penny, was a delightful part of the day, charming everyone with her adorable bow as she walked down the aisle to a chorus of “awws.” Penny’s presence was thoughtfully woven into the celebration in creative and heartfelt ways. The couple named a signature cocktail, the “Frenchie 75,” in her honor, adorned the bar with the name “Penny’s Spot” as a sweet nod to her signature spot, and even featured her likeness on custom cocktail napkins. Penny also made a cameo on the wedding cake and happily greeted guests during cocktail hour, all made possible with the help of a fantastic dog watcher from Sitterwise. It was a perfect tribute to their precious pup!

Think “Bridgerton” Meets “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at The Clifton

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Wildflower colors – pinks, blues, yellows, greens, neutrals[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Our vision was a black-tie garden party. Think “Bridgerton” meets “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. I wanted the florals to feel like wildflowers to complement the sprawling green landscape of The Clifton and the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Everything felt natural and organic, yet upscale and refined.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Pat and I met when we were both living in Washington, DC. I was out at a house party with my friends in a high-rise apartment building, and one friend suggested we head up to the roof to check out the view of the National Mall. Pat and his friends were at a different party in the same building and had the same idea. As my friends and I were taking a selfie with the Washington Monument behind us, Pat and his friends walked by and offered to take the photo for us. Pat and I started chatting, and he asked for my number. I agreed to a date with him the next day and had no intention of it going anywhere, I just thought it would be a good story! Four years, two moves, and one dog later, Pat proposed to me in our favorite spot in the park across the street from our apartment in Cambridge, MA. It was a Tuesday evening after work, so I was taken by surprise!

I wore a simple and sleek Alexandra Grecco gown with its Floral Cap Sleeves and train sewn on. I fell in love with this look when I first saw it in their collection, and when I had my appointment at Ceremony in Boston, it was the first dress I tried on. I knew it was the one immediately. During our reception, I changed into the V. Chapman Betina mini dres, which was fun to wear and even more fun to dance in. I highly recommend changing into a party dress for your reception – you have no idea how much jumping and running around you’ll do all night long!

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

I wanted my eight bridesmaids to feel beautiful and comfortable in dresses that resonated with them, so I offered some guidelines but let them pick their looks. It also gave them more flexibility with the price points they each felt comfortable with. I asked them to look for pink, green, or blue gowns in a variety of textures, patterns, and cuts to create more visual interest at our ceremony and in photos. They came together beautifully! The final looks were from Mac Duggal, Selkie, V. Chapman, Agua by Agua Bendita, Show Me Your Mumu, Maje, Birdy Grey, and Francesca’s.

The Clifton provided the catering for the wedding and did a fantastic job. Our signature drink during cocktail hour was a Paloma because that is the cocktail we most commonly serve up to our friends when we have them over (our friends call them “Patlomas”). Our guests enjoyed drinking these with the custom stirrers we had made of me and Pat’s faces from when we were little kids, as well as our dog, Milly. Dinner was served family-style which was a big hit among our guests.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Lynn from Wild Fleurette’s floral designs was simply jaw-dropping. She completely nailed my wildflower vision. I loved the natural yet vibrant look of the blooms along the ceremony aisle, and the simple, grounded floral altar. My colorful bridal bouquet and the bridesmaids’ simple white bouquets complemented the look and feel of the gowns and venue beautifully. But the real showstopper was the head table at the reception. I knew I wanted rattan lighting above the tables and stage, and Lynn wove bouncy fresh greenery all through the lanterns. It felt like we were dancing in an enchanted garden all night long. She knocked it out of the park and was a joy to work with.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

My mom and I developed a friendship with the team at Bake From Scratch magazine (better known as The Bake Feed on Instagram) over the last few years through their many wonderful and immersive baking retreats around the world. Shortly after getting engaged, my mom and I were at a weekend retreat at their headquarters in Birmingham, AL, and their delightful and talented team was peppering me with questions about wedding planning. When asked who was doing our cake, I replied honestly that I hadn’t thought about it yet. They exclaimed, “We’ll do it!” I thought they were joking! They’d never featured a wedding cake in their magazine before. But after many months of back and forth and several test cakes that we devoured, the team packed up and drove to Charlottesville from Birmingham and baked the most exquisite cake we’d ever seen. They baked it in the tiny farmhouse kitchen on The Clifton’s property, where all the groomsmen were staying – god bless them. They incorporated florals from Wild Fleurette and our monogram from our stationer, Jolly Edition, into the design. I asked for a vintage-style wedding cake, with buttercream frosting and strawberries and cream filling, and they exceeded all expectations. Not only was it gorgeous, but it was delicious!

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Our ceremony felt so special, in part because we got married on my parents’ 33rd wedding anniversary, so there were already good vibes. We had a string quartet – Melodious Strings – play instrumental music during the procession. The wedding party walked down the aisle to “Dancing in the Moonlight” and then “XO”. I walked down the aisle to “Invisible String” by Taylor Swift. Our good friend officiated the ceremony and did an incredible job. A groomsman and a bridesmaid read two poems by Whitney Hanson. Additionally, we had reached out to all the married guests before the wedding to ask them for their best marriage advice for us. We assembled all this advice into a ceremony reading read by my aunt and another groomsman. It was a perfect mix of tender, sweet, and funny wisdom, and it let our guests feel like they played a part in our big day. We finished by reading handwritten vows to each other, then recessed to “Love You for a Long Time” by Maggie Rogers, one of our favorite songs.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

I used to be on a competitive dance team when I was growing up, and my studio also offered father-daughter dance classes, which my dad gamely signed up for with me. We did these for five years, and those classes with him are some of my favorite childhood memories. We have all the dance recital recordings on VHS tapes, and years ago, long before I was ever engaged, I used to tell my dad, “Someday when I get married, we’re doing one of these dances again!” He waved me off at the time, but once I got engaged, I didn’t let him forget! We decided to relearn the first dance we ever performed together when I was 7 years old. It was to “Let’s Hear It for the Boy” from Footloose. We practiced together almost weekly for months before the wedding until we both had it down again. I also had the idea to rent a giant projection screen to play the original VHS video alongside us as we danced. To take further advantage of this, I cut together a montage of clips of my dad and me through the years set to “Best Parts of Me” by Will Dempsey while my dad and I did a traditional father-daughter slow dance. Then this cut to our dance video, and the music picked up. The goal was to have the whole room in tears, and then the whole room on their feet cheering for my dad – and we succeeded! You may have seen this video online, as our amazing content creator, Plan With Laur, posted it on social media this summer, and it went viral. We even got interviewed by People Magazine and Inside Edition about our dance. It was so much fun, and I was over the moon to see the outpouring of love and support for my dad. Here is the link to the video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8FKUNQx_94/

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Our reception tent was right next to The Clifton’s beautiful swimming pool, so Pat and I knew we wanted to take advantage of this. For our exit, we had all our guests line up around the pool with sparklers, and then Pat and I did a running jump into the pool to end the night. It was definitely one of the highlights of the night, and the perfect, most memorable way to end it! (Not to mention it felt great to take a dip after dancing up a storm all night!)[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

One of my family’s favorite traditions is to pop Christmas crackers during the holidays. I found some beautiful spring-themed crackers that just happened to be in our wedding colors and I knew they’d be the perfect detail to add to our reception. We handed these out along with our wedding cake and it was so much fun to see everyone on the dance floor wearing the paper crowns that came inside them. Who doesn’t love a dance floor accessory?!

An Ethereal Boston Wedding at a Historic Private Villa

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Neutrals and soft greenery[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The couple, being high school sweethearts, wanted to be wed at a secluded estate in their hometown. She wanted airy, natural, summery, and artistic.. Nothing over the top and no bright colors. From the beginning, the aesthetic was very ethereal and “Secret Garden” vibes.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

After moving across the country to Los Angeles, we were preparing to head back east to Boston to celebrate the holidays. 2 weeks before leaving, Danny not so subtly mentioned wanting to have a date night on Tuesday, December 20th, and to pack an outfit accordingly. Preplanned weekday date nights were extremely out of the norm, so I had an immediate spidey sense that an engagement was happening that night and couldn’t wipe the smile from my face. Little did I know Danny had been in communication with our friends and family for months, planning a perfect surprise. Fast forward to Dec 20th. It was a normal work day, and nothing felt out of the ordinary. Danny had plans to pick me up from my parents’ house to go to a colleague’s art show that I thought didn’t exist. Danny borrowed his grandma’s ancient Saab to romantically take us downtown, however, that didn’t go exactly to plan. We barely spoke or made eye contact with each other during the entire 30-minute drive. Instead, Danny was frantically texting on his phone, which gave me more reason to think that an engagement was imminent. After finally reaching our destination, we parked, and I immediately noticed Danny’s mom’s car in a nearby spot. Another green flag! It was a particularly frigid evening, and we were bundled in down jackets on our walk to the “gallery.” In my head, I had no idea where we were going, but I knew this whole gallery idea was a ruse. Lo and behold, an art gallery appeared, and I immediately doubted any sort of engagement happening that night. That flash of doubt melted away as soon as we walked into a quiet space covered with a black curtain. Danny encouraged me to take off my jacket and bag, which I did hesitantly, and behind the curtains was the most romantic setup of blanket, candles, champagne, and a giant screen with a projector. Danny told me he had something to show me and pressed play on a nearby computer. On the screen started flashing memories from the last decade of our relationship. I was in shock, and Danny had to tell me to sit down and watch with him. Danny is a photographer and has been capturing our moments since we were 15 years old. The video made us both laugh and cry, and ended with a picture of Danny fake proposing on a dock in Cape Cod, 8 years before. I can’t exactly say what came after that, but there was a bent knee and the words “Will you marry me?” followed by a yes. It was perfect.

Guests were greeted with a beverage cart filled with Negroni’s and Skinny Margaritas and loads of passed hors d’oeuvres. [field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]In the reception, guests heard toasts from the parents of the bride and the best man who was the groom’s older brother. They chose to dance together for their parent dances, the bride with her father and the groom with his mother. They ended with an epic dance party. Having been together so long they had a great group of guests who were so excited their wedding day was finally here![/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The ceremony was a perfect blend of traditional Jewish elements and more modern touches, very specific to them as a couple.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

One extremely special moment in the wedding ceremony was when the bride walked down the aisle to a surprise song for her husband-to-be. The groom, Danny, is obsessed with the show New Girl, and in an episode where one of the characters gets married, she walks down the aisle to “Still” by Seinabo Sey. It was only fitting that our bride walked down to the same song and yes, tears were shed.

Ojai Elegance Meets Cozy Charm: A Wedding With Neutral Tones and Home-Inspired Comfort

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

When it came to the vision and design of the wedding, we wanted it to be the perfect blend of timelessness and a sense of coziness by choosing neutral and earthy tones, and comfortable yet chic furniture that would make guests feel like they were in our living room — think palettes of creams, whites and greens, and materials like natural woods, boucle and velvet.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Our overall theme was California-inspired minimalism, which I think perfectly describes us as we were both born and raised in Los Angeles. We picked every detail as if we were designing a home, rather than making it feel like we were planning a wedding.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Max and Lauren had been dating for 7 years. They met through Max’s two best friends, with whom Lauren went to elementary school. Max, who is 1 year older, was living in LA, and when Lauren graduated from college and moved home, she and her girlfriends threw a housewarming party and invited those two friends (who brought Max), and the rest was history. They got engaged in March 2022 on the beach in Marina Del Rey. Max proposed during sunset with Lauren’s sister and her boyfriend and her best friend, Brittanie, watching in the distance. Right before he proposed, she looked at Max and said, “Wouldn’t this be a great place to get engaged?” He responded with, “Well, actually… ” and before she knew it, he was down on one knee proposing. After their beach engagement, Max brought her back to his parents’ house, where he threw a surprise engagement party with their closest friends and family.

The Farmhouse is such a beautiful place, and we wanted to make sure that we were leaning into the surrounding environment and creating a space that complemented the venue’s architecture and the beauty of Ojai’s outdoors. A Wedding Photographer Weds in San Miguel De Allende Captured on 16mm Film at Casa Carino

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Ann and Luke wanted the vibe to feel organic, natural, and true to San Miguel de Allende. The city and its colors are so vibrant, and with Alaia Floral’s refined and unique style, their design leaned into natural hues with lots of greens and white blooms. Bold blues were incorporated in the maid of honor’s dress, the signage, and some of the dance floor props as a nod to the iconic blue Talavera hand-painted plates.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The vision for the entire weekend centered around Ann and Luke’s hope that they could have their family and friends, the bride from Texas and groom from New Zealand, all together in one central place for a celebratory vacation. It was that initial goal that led them to the venue, Casa Cariño, which had room for 14 guests to stay with the couple and enjoy San Miguel de Allende. Design was focused on enhancing the villa’s natural beauty and bringing elements of San Miguel artistry and natural beauty into the fold.

Dinner was served family style by Penzi Weddings and shared between guests, with rounds of tenderloin, seabass, tongue carpaccio, and finally a coffee crème brûlée. During the courses, a bottle of 1998 “La Casa” Cabernet was opened, having been purchased in the year of the bride’s birth by her parents and aged with the forethought of opening it at her wedding one day. At the time they purchased the bottle, of course, they could not have predicted her marriage would take place at a place called Casa Cariño.

{Still waters run deep} Paying homage to their shared love of family traditions of going camping and Katie fishing with her dad, we created a subtle nod to the fishing spot where his ashes were lovingly scattered and Patrick proposed, while alluding to the depth of love that they have found in each other. Creating an intimate and happy space with playful touches enveloped in all the golden hues that a sunrise brings with the dawn of a new day, we layered in soft linens and florals that appear to be pulled from a blossoming riverbank. Small water moments, wood textures, and candlelight that dances in the breeze offered interest as well as another surprising and thoughtful element, such as wooden fish that we’re tied to the ceremony chairs, and a fishing escort wall where guests could fish for their favors!

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Bride: We were on a camping trip at Jalama Beach with my family last October. We go every year, but this trip was to spread my dad’s ashes. My dad grew up camping here too, so it’s been a family tradition for 3 generations now. He always told my sister and me that he wanted his ashes to be spread there, so we let him go around a big rock on the beach that he loved to fish on. 2 mornings later, Patrick and I made coffee and went for a beach walk. He stopped in front of the rock and proposed. It was so perfect and meant so much to me that he wanted my dad to be a part of it.

All About The Shoe: How to Choose The Perfect Bridal Shoes For You!

Talk about shoes? You don’t have to ask us twice! Shopping for your bridal shoes is one of the least stressful, most fun, parts of shopping for your wedding ensemble. You already know what size you wear, and chances are, you know what styles you like…or at least what you don’t like. That’s a great place to start! While shoe shopping should be pretty straight forward, there are a few things that you want to consider before committing to the perfect pair.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Anya Kernes Photography  SHOES | Bella Belle

Budget

As with every part of your wedding budget, how much to spend on bridal shoes is something that you need to decide based on what you and your partner are comfortable spending. There is no set amount that you should or shouldn’t spend on wedding shoes. That being said, your wedding is a great excuse to splurge on that designer pair that you’ve been drooling over for years. Whatever you decide to spend, make sure to include your bridal shoe allocation into the budget for your bridal ensemble.

We know, weddings are expensive! For most brides, going shoe shopping is an exciting prospect, but for brides who have already stretched their budget, it may seem like one more expense. If that’s the case for you, instead of going to boutiques and high-end department stores, shop your closet. There is no rule that says you need to get new shoes for your wedding. Do you already own a pair that is formal enough, one that would complement your gown? Amazing, that’s one less thing that you have to buy! Plus, they’re already broken in, so no need to worry about pesky blisters on your wedding day!

Heel Height

This is the most important and the most complicated decision to make when it comes to choosing your bridal shoes, mostly because it depends on a few different factors.

  • Gown Length- You should definitely wait to go shoe shopping until you have your gown selection locked in. Most gowns come in a standard length (60” hollow-to-hem on average). Depending on your height, the length of your gown may dictate how high of a heel you should wear. The bridal sales associate that helps you when you purchase your gown should be able to tell you the standard length for that designer and advise you on the maximum heel height that would work with the hem. If your gown is floor-length, when you are wearing your shoes, the hem should just graze the floor. For a fee, some designers offer a service where they can add additional length to the hem if needed (but this needs to be done when you place the order). If your gown has a high-low hem or isn’t floor length, your heel height options open up completely.
  • Physical Comfort- This is a big factor when determining heel height. A lot of brides feel pressure to wear high heels on their wedding day–don’t! Your wedding is a celebration, you want to remember laughing and dancing with your friends and family, not how much your feet were killing you. Choose a heel height that you are comfortable with. If you live in heels and would feel naked wearing anything else, go for it! We recommend choosing a brand that you know and love so you know you’ll be comfortable dancing in them and walking around all day. If you never wear heels and feel like you’ll be tripping over yourself, go with flats. These days, a lot of designers are making super cute formal options for flats. If you’re somewhere in-between, try both. Take your time, try shoes on and see which one you like best.
  • Mental Comfort- In addition to physical comfort, consider your mental comfort as well. Some women are uncomfortable wearing heels, especially if they are tall (or are taller than their partner). To address this, first let us say, whether you are petite or tall–embrace your height! Your partner fell for you just the way you are, so don’t feel like you need to be anything else on your wedding day. If you’re a tall girl and heels make you feel great, rock a heel! If you’re short and aren’t comfortable in heels, wear flats! If there is a big height difference between you and your partner and you want to downplay it, your photographer can help account for that in photos, just let them know that it’s something to be conscious of.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Anya Kernes Photography  SHOES | Bella Belle

Style & Color Palette

Now, for the fun part–style! When selecting your shoes, try to choose something that complements the style of your gown. Now, this doesn’t mean that it needs to be matchy-matchy. Just because your gown is satin doesn’t mean your shoes need to be. Think instead, “What would look good with my gown?” For example, if your gown is a romantic tulle gown, think a pastel strappy sandal with floral or beaded detail. Or, if your gown is more minimalist, try a killer pointy toe pump to add that extra edge.

A common misconception is that bridal shoes need to be in the white color family–totally untrue! In fact, your shoes are a great place to add a pop of color–perhaps one of the less used colors from your color palette or your “Something Blue”. Metallics also a safe bet because they go with everything! Your bridal shoes are an investment, so make sure you pick a pair that you love and can wear even after the wedding.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Isabelle Selby Photography    SHOES | Valentino

Venue

It’s a good idea to consider your venue when choosing your shoes, especially if any part of your wedding is outdoors. You may be in love with those spike heels, but the thought of walking in grass or sand in them may change your mind.

Some shoes lend themselves to outdoors more than others. Flats are always a great nature-friendly option, but if you need that extra height from a heel, consider a wedge. While most wedges are more casual in design, there are some formal options, you may just need to look a little harder to find them. Chunky heels are another way that you can have your cake and eat it too, so to speak. They give you the height and are fairly stable in most outdoor settings.

Let’s say you’ve found your wedding shoes, and they have a heel that is not compatible with softer ground–fear not! There are a few different companies, like Solemates, that sell heel caps. They snap onto the tip of your heel and distribute the weight over a larger surface area, preventing you from sinking.

Timeline

Though you do have significantly more time to shop for shoes than any other part of your bridal ensemble, there is a deadline. You should have your shoes purchased and in-hand with you at your first alterations appointment. This ensures that your alterations specialist has the right measurement when hemming your gown.

A Floral Fusion of Marigold and Lavender at Blithewold Mansion

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Orange, Yellow, Pink, Purple and Red[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

To flow from our Sangeet to the reception, our excellent vendor team had to execute an incredible tent flip between the two events. We started with cocktail height tables, a coffee cart, and bright florals to match the high-energy celebratory sangeet. During our wedding ceremony in the flower garden, our team had to flip the entire tent to set up for dinner, dancing, and build us a beautiful marigold and orange lily flanked head table. Our floral inspo drew heavily on orange marigolds, which are a traditional Indian wedding flower. We chose lavender to complement the orange as a nod to New England hydrangeas. Our florals perfectly matched the fusion of our two cultures and were perfectly appropriate for a summer garden party wedding.

The surprise continued when both our families and best friends showed up to toast with us and enjoy London after the proposal. We celebrated with a group dinner at Dishoom, our favorite Indian restaurant in London, and a long weekend of shopping and seeing the sights. London was a special location choice because it sits halfway between Jillian’s home near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Hyderabad, India, where Saagar’s family is from.

My gown was Rivini by Rita Vinieris. I was immediately drawn to the floral jacquard fabric, which felt unique, timeless, and perfect for our venue. I knew we’d be getting married in a flower garden mid-summer in full bloom, so the subtle floral print was the perfect complement. The venue is a historically preserved Gilded Age mansion, so I wanted a dress that borrowed the period’s drama and extravagance with a full train, corseted bodice, pearl buttons, complemented by a cathedral-length veil.

GROOM’S SUIT: Saagar, a men’s fashion aficionado, had custom white tie and tails made by Steed Bespoke Tailors in London. He was excited about his wedding tuxedo and spent a lot of time designing it to fit the Gilded Age period.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

When designing the florals for Jillian & Saagar, it was all about personality & 100% intentional. This was such an inspirational & meaningful design to us. Celebrating both their families’ cultures sang through the florals like telling a story. From Sangeet to Ceremony, Cocktail hour & Reception – Every area of the design had its moment, complementing together entirely. We worked hand in hand with our Bride & Nightingale Events to take something out of Jillian’s dreams to share with everyone on their wedding day. The colors through the ceremony were bursting, scalloped garlands dressed the aisle while romantic blooms danced behind. Sunset glowed on freckled lilies & warm fragrant marigolds in reception, a table to truly celebrate. Unforgettable.

Jillian’s paternal grandparents, who have been married for 62 years, officiated our ceremony. They’re a true testament to strength in marriage through good times and bad, which made them the perfect officiants.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The most unique and special choice we made for our wedding was to include a “mini-sangeet” before our wedding ceremony. We’d held a traditional Hindu ceremony in India the summer prior with all four of Saagar’s grandparents, so we incorporated Saagar’s heritage in our American wedding with a quick dance party to kick off the day. We had eight choreographed dances performed by both our parents, bridesmaids, groomsmen, friends, and cousins. Saagar’s aunt teaches traditional Hindu dance and opened the Sangeet with a dedication to Ganesha. All of our family members, even some of Jillian’s more rhythmically challenged, leaned in and did an amazing job. It was the perfect opening to a day of fun, family, and leaning into our different cultures.

Top Philadelphia Chefs Wed at Cedar Lakes Estate in an Affair That Was *Chef’s Kiss*

The bride is the owner and chef of the acclaimed Her Place Supper Club, and the couple also co-own My Loup, both in Philadelphia. Since they are both chefs, a key element to the wedding weekend had to be great food. As far as design, Amanda found her floral embroidered veil from A&M Enterprises first. The veil then inspired the floral color palette and design. Florals were a main design element for this wedding, which included a large huppah and hundreds of centerpieces for both the welcome dinner on Friday and the wedding day on Saturday. The couple wanted to the weekend to be beautifully designed, but still be filled with fun and ease.

A Friday night welcome dinner was centered around florals and peaches. Peaches appeared in the drinks (as well as in the escort cards and design). Since food was so important to them, they also sourced a specific caviar for their cocktail hour on Saturday, and enjoyed a family style meal with their family and friends during the reception. The bride loves pie, so rather than cake they offered guests multiple types of pie at the end of the evening. Special cookies were also presented.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Florals were inspired by the bride’s veil, in various shades and textures of green, pink, yellow, and orange. A winding floral path through the ampitheater at Cedar Lakes led to floral filled huppah for their ceremony. The cocktail hour featured a canoe filled with flowers as their escort card display. A Wedding Celebration of Cultures in Sun-Soaked California at Ruby Hill Winery

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Each one of our wedding events had a different color palette! Our Sangeet was all three primary colors: yellow, red, and blue. Our Haldi was mustard yellow and forest green. Our Wedding Ceremony was maroon, light pink, and light peach. Our Reception night was navy and gold.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

We wanted our wedding week to be a fun & entertaining journey for our guests through the different elements that Paras and I love about each other and our relationship. First, our Sangeet vision was to transport our guests to a traditional outdoor Indian Punjabi mela (or parade), with our food, décor, and parting gifts for guests. As Indian Americans, we both grew up attending these kinds of melas, so it was a not-so-subtle nod to our heritage. Next, the concept for our Haldi was the tropics, to represent our first vacation together as a couple in Hawaii. Instead of flowers, we used tropical fruit and leaves to set the mood! We wanted the most important day in our lives to take place at a venue that was private, beautiful, and most importantly, aligned with our values. When we found Nella Terra Cellars, a small family-owned sustainable & organic winery that operates as a B Corporation, they were fully booked for the foreseeable future. But we knew this place was worth postponing our wedding date by 13 months. Our joint love of plant-based food, cute farm animals, and epic live music truly set the vibes for this day. From first date to first dance, we wanted our Reception to reflect the ambiance of our first date many years ago at a dimly lit wine bar in San Francisco, so we opted for more candelabras and less overhead lighting. But we first wanted the party to start at our cocktail hour, where we entertained guests with small bites, Bollywood violinists, and a mentalist.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Paras isn’t a huge planner, but he did a great job keeping the proposal under wraps. We somewhat spontaneously (or so I thought…) decided to go to Apple Hill, CA, on Nov 28, 2022, to spend some quality time together. On the drive up, we got a call from his brother, who owns & operates their family-owned hotel in Placerville. “We’re out of wine in our restaurant, could you pick up some from a winery in Apple Hill and drop it off on your way back?” he asked. I thought, ok then – we’ll do it right now. So we headed to a winery nearby called Starfield Vineyards. When we got there, Paras noticed a trail map and got excited about taking a walk through the vineyard. As we approached some vines up the hill, I noticed a lady nestled in the bushes. I quickly approached her to ask for a photo on my phone, and she seemed apprehensive. “It’s ok if you don’t want to,” I said. She reluctantly took a quick picture on my phone, and after she handed me my phone back and I turned around, Paras was on one knee. Turned out that this woman was a professional photographer whom Paras had hired to capture the moment! We all shared a good laugh about it afterwards over a glass of sparkling wine. Later, I found out that Paras’ brother and mom were both at the winery when we got his phone call about “running out of wine,” so there was no red wine shortage crisis after all. It was sweet to hear that his whole family was involved in the proposal.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]For the sangeet, I sourced my colorful outfit from Irrau in New Delhi, where I worked directly with the up-and-coming designer Samir Mantri on the cut and design to match our Punjabi mela vibe.

For the haldi, I ditched traditional yellow attire and sought out a beautiful tropical orange ready-to-wear piece from a mom-and-pop shop at a New Delhi market.

For the wedding, my eldest aunt gifted me a rich maroon velvet lehenga that she lovingly purchased for me when I had first gotten engaged. She selected a fabric embroidered with floral motifs to represent Paras’ & my love for the great outdoors.

For the reception, I worked with a family friend on multiple sketches of a modern white wedding dress with an Indian twist. This one-of-a-kind piece ended up weighing 30 pounds and took nearly 3 months to embroider by hand![/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

I couldn’t find any readymade bridal party outfits that I believed were fit for our wedding vibe or worthy of my best friends. So, I decided to design them to not only suit our color palette but also be comfortably worn by various body types. I selected a modern choli blouse with a crisp V-neck, tied in the back with a large ribbon instead of standard hooks. It was coupled with a delicate organza skirt, which was dyed pink and then silk-screened with flowers that I designed digitally. The entire ensemble was pulled together with a ruffled dupatta. The groomsmen’s outfits were dyed to match and included the same custom floral motif. All of the outfits arrived from India just weeks before our wedding date!

[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

Since the sangeet was Punjabi themed to represent Paras’ heritage, he gave a nod to his bride’s Kashmiri heritage by sourcing a beautiful multi-colored pashmina jacket for his sangeet look. For his haldi look, he wore a simple orange kurta because he knew it would be ruined in a few short hours – and it sure was, with turmeric, honey, and… Cheerios! For his ceremony look, he customized an ivory sherwani with fully hand-embroidered pearls, coupled with a maroon stole to match the bride. For our reception, he designed his own fully custom tuxedo at a local shop in Sacramento, where he and the bride picked out every element together, from the lining down to the buttons.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

Food was undoubtedly our number one priority during the wedding. Our family collectively attended food tastings with six different caterers across the entire state to find the perfect balance of Indian flavor and innovation. We ultimately partnered with a different chef for each event, all with unique strengths. Our sangeet had all authentic North Indian food, as this is where all four of our parents grew up. Our ceremony meal was fully plant-based to align with our cultural and sustainability goals. We also used food as a design element here, working with our caterer to carve fruit rinds (that would otherwise be wasted) into beautiful sculptures. Our reception menu was an Asian fusion of Thai, Chinese, and Singaporean cuisines as a reflection of the types of meals Paras and I commonly share. We also provided a variety of meals and snacks for our guests in between our events at the hotel – we wanted to ensure that no guest ended any night hungry!

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

It is truly a challenge to plan a luxury Indian wedding with sustainability in mind. We decided to keep our sangeet floral-free and opted for pre-existing décor elements like lanterns, rikshaws, and Punjabi truck food stations. For our haldi, we used tropical fruits like papaya, dragon fruit, and pineapple to spruce up our backdrop. My cousins later ate these once the event was over! For our ceremony, we embraced florals at our mandap as it held religious significance to our families. We then made sure that our loved ones took home all the lunch centerpieces. Before the ceremony, we distributed petals to guests in banana leaf cones rather than plastic bags so they could later be composted altogether. For our reception, Paras had a strong vision and conceived a unique 24 ft x 24 ft overhead structure, filled with smilax and disco balls. Underneath it lay a custom marble dance floor with gold streaks that tied into our elegant gold tableware and candelabras at our four long king tables.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

We decided to forgo a cake and opted for more bite-sized Indian desserts, like kala jamun, tava milk cake, and a live paan station. For one of our smaller events, we partnered with my favorite MasterChef contestant and Indian fusion baker, Milk & Cardamom, on fusion items like rasmalai tres leches cake.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”][/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

One of our favorite elements at the ceremony was bringing in alpacas from a local farm. We opted out of horses for the groom’s baraat to spare them from the loud noises, but still wanted to incorporate our love for farm animals. So we created a meet-and-greet opportunity. After the ceremony, children and adults all loved hugging and petting the two sweet alpacas that drove in for the day. One of our favorite reception performances was a one-hour concert-style set by Indian American pop star Mickey Singh. Mickey is an artist that we had both been listening to since college, and once we realized that he was from my same hometown as my mother-in-law, we knew he would have an instant connection with our guests, and we convinced his team to fly out from the East Coast. He brought the energy and made everyone dance, from our young nephews to our elderly grandmothers. It was an unforgettable night! One of our favorite memories was bringing on a fusion tabla player, who played Indian tabla beats on top of Drake and Afrobeats tracks. We even got a private feature performance, as he continued performing for just the two of us, even after our guests had left.

Indulge in the Old World Luxury of This Lake Como Wedding at Villa Regina Teodolinda

On July 27, 2023, Greg proposed to Lena at Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The natural beauty of Banff’s turquoise blue waters, glistening lakes, and mountains made it an even more majestic proposal. Greg and Lena wandered off into the woods with no humans in sight—except for those in canoes from a long distance away. Lena was doing the usual, at the edge of the lake, mesmerized and admiring the scenery, and capturing it through photography. Greg called Lena from above, “Lena, come here!” She ran atop the squishy moss, into the woods, and Greg hugged her tight. She felt a sense of security and comfort. Greg looked into her eyes, confessed his love for her, gave the sweetest, most sincere, heartfelt speech, got down on one knee, and asked Lena to be his forever. Greg and Lena met on the lakes of Michigan, got engaged on a lake in Banff, Alberta, and are now married on Lake Como, Italy. It’s no wonder that their relationship brings tranquility, peace, and comfort, as the lake signifies their love.

A Floral Explosion for This Modern Big Fat Greek Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Pink, yellow, orange, blue, and purple[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Seeking to honor Helen’s Greek heritage and Dan’s Italian roots, the couple wanted to celebrate a wedding focused on tradition, family, and their shared Mediterranean culture.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From coworkers to friends to lovers, Helen and Dan met at work while collaborating on the same account. It took some time for a spark to appear between the two friends, but when it did, they quickly fell for one another. After countless walks hand-in-hand through The Washington Mews, it became their special place in the city, and where Dan would ultimately ask Helen to be his wife. It was an unassuming day when Helen’s friend asked her to pose for a photography class assignment. When Dan arrived out of the blue, Helen knew what was up and happily said yes when he got down on one knee. He then whisked her away to a surprise rooftop engagement party with their families and friends!

Helen wore a strapless white gown from Kyha Studios with a slit up the side and showstopping train. “I wore a dress by Kyha Studios. I had seen this dress even before I got engaged and had saved it because I loved it so much. It is an Australian brand, and so when I finally looked at dresses, I figured I wouldn’t be able to try them on anywhere. It seemed like fate that they opened a boutique in NYC the weekend before I had scheduled appointments at various boutiques to try on dresses!” As a special “something old” detail, Helen attached lace from her mother’s wedding dress to the bottom of her veil.

Bold and vibrant was the theme of their tented reception, with flowers in bright shades of pink, yellow, orange, blue, and purple adding pops of color throughout the space. A spectacular arrangement of hanging greenery and blooms formed a whimsical canopy over the dance floor, where guests danced the night away (Greek style!). The floral theme also carried into the smaller details, with hand-drawn flower sketches adorning programs, place cards, matchbox favors, and more — courtesy of Helen’s maid of honor!

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The couple served a three-tiered wedding cake with delicately iced piped dots.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Marrying in the same church as Helen’s parents had, she borrowed a tradition from their wedding and had both walk her down the aisle. In a Greek ceremony, Helen and Dan tied the knot wearing handmade Stefana (crowns) hand-designed by their Koumaro (sponsor) with opals as a nod to their October birthdays.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

“The music in our ceremony was so special! We were in a pinch when our original musician was no longer able to do the ceremony as we had envisioned it, and our amazing band stepped in to save the day. We had the Portuguese Love Theme from Love Affair as our bridal party walked in (Love Affair is one of my all-time favorite movies). I walked down to Canon D, the same song my mom did, and then the recessional was to All You Need Is Love, in memory of Dan’s father.”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

“Our first dance was so memorable. We started with “A Song for You” (Donny Hathaway/Ray Charles), and then it moved into “Come and Get Your Love” (Redbone). We couldn’t decide between the two, and they had different vibes, so our band encouraged us to do a mash-up! When Come and Get Your Love came on, they called everyone out to the dance floor, and the party felt like it officially started.”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]Helen and Dan’s advice for engaged couples?

“Try not to get lost in what you think you should be doing — stay true to the reason why you are even planning this event! Your love. Focus on guest experience as well – all these people are traveling and investing money to come and celebrate with you, so consider their comfort when planning timelines, transportation, etc. Also, be conscientious about social media and try to block out a lot of the noise if you can!

Also, be an advocate for what you want your day to look like! Our photographer was so incredible, and we were able to strategize the day, prioritize the type of photos we really cared about, and eliminate anything that we thought we didn’t really need.”[/field]

Abundant Pink Wedding at Hummingbird Nest Ranch With Personalized Details at Every Turn

[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Bright pink and blue talavera[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

We realized we were inviting guests from 33 (!) different states, as we have lived all over the country in our adult lives. So once we decided to have our wedding close to my parents’ home in Southern California, I knew I wanted to provide an ultimate California-Mexican experience (my mom’s family is Mexican). Our venue has a blue tiled fountain in the reception space, colored tile steps, bougainvillea flowers, and terracotta floors, with views of the California mountains on all sides. It was the perfect backdrop to make my Californian-Mexican fusion vision come to life! We served spicy margaritas & carajillos, chips & guacamole, added bright pink florals in blue and white vases, and had live music for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. All of these details brought a happy, upscale, but comforting vibe that made for such a fun experience. While I grew up in Southern California, Bryan grew up in Texas in a border town, and Mexican food also has a big place in his heart. We thought the California-Mexico fusion represented both of us and made our semi-destination wedding something unique and personal to us.

I was with my college girlfriends in Los Angeles in summer 2023 for the Taylor Swift Eras concert. We were staying at my parents’ home, and on the last day of our trip, I had planned a Santa Barbara brunch outing for us. As we were heading outside to get in the car, Bryan was there outside my parents’ house with a bouquet and a ring! I didn’t even know he had flown into California to surprise me! He proposed, and before I knew it, a party bus showed up and took us and my girlfriends all around Santa Barbara, and we celebrated all day!

I had had Netta BenShabu’s dresses on my Pinterest board long before I was engaged! Trish Cyrus wore one of her dresses, and I had the designer on my radar ever since. A bridal salon near me was having a Netta Benshabu trunk show when two of my best friends (who later became my bridesmaids) were happening to visit me. We went together, and immediately knew that dress was “the one”! My mom and sister came to visit a few weeks later, and I officially said yes to the dress!

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]I asked my nine bridesmaids to go for solid pink, floor-length dresses. My matron-of-honor (also my sister) wore a print to stand out a little. Since I was going for bright pink florals, the girls complimented my color palette perfectly and still got to show some individuality which I like! I wanted all design choices, including my bridesmaids colors, to showcase our personality and be fun![/field]

Tres LA worked with me for over a year to curate the perfect California-Mexican fusion menu. We served spicy margaritas and old-fashioned as our signature drinks, and tray-passed mini tacos, shrimp ceviche, and barbacoa bites. On each table, we started with chips, 3 salsas, and guacamole instead of the classic bread and butter, and so many guests told us this was one of their favorite details because it was familiar, delicious, and unique to us! We served all guests first an avocado citrus salad, then a duo protein plate with carna asada brava, sea bass with tangerine serrano mojo, and poblano corn puree and fajita vegetables. For dessert, we had cinnamon sugar-rolled churro bites with Madagascar sweet cream sauce, cookies and cream mini cheesecakes, and tray-passed carajillo shots. After dancing, we served late-night pizza at our on-venue after-party. The food was comforting, nostalgic, upscale but not stuffy, and was a huge hit! Guests told me they loved being served something they had never had at a wedding before.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Our venue was a “classic California” feel with talavera accents, terracotta tile, palm trees, bougainvillea flowers. I wanted to lean into this and add bright pink flowers in blue and white vases and light wood furniture, to compliment the venue. I took inspiration from weddings I found in Cabo and Riviera Maya. It helped the entire aesthetic flow seamlessly and the bright colors made the entire ambiance feel upbeat, lively and approachable.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

We opted to not have a wedding cake, and did tray passed desserts instead (see above in food & drink). I believe in leaving behind any wedding traditions you’re not interested in and leaning into the ones you love!

For table numbers, we had a picture of us at that age. For table 1, it said “when we were 1…” and showed a picture of each of us. It was a fun reprieve during wedding planning to look through childhood pictures with our moms, and we loved the special touch on our wedding day. I wanted it to feel like the US at our wedding with every detail.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Our cocktail napkins had handwritten notes to each other. Guests told us they could feel how in love we were at our wedding, and letting them into our moments added to this. It made our 215-person wedding feel intimate and special.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

We served late-night pizza made-to-order at our onsite afterparty! I used custom pizza boxes so guests could take their pizza to go if they wanted to. It was the perfect final touch to thank guests “for being a part of our wedding.”

[field title=”Proposal Story”]On the evening of December 23, 2022, the groom, Patrick, turned their home into a cozy haven filled with flowers, balloons, and Elaine’s favorite teddy bear, rehearsing his heartfelt words over and over.
When Elaine walked through the door, she was met with the soft glow of candlelight and an unmistakable sense that something extraordinary was about to unfold. With his heart racing, Patrick dropped to one knee, held out a ring, and asked, “Elaine, will you marry me?” His voice quivered slightly, but his eyes radiated pure certainty and love.
Elaine froze in disbelief, her mouth open as she took in the thoughtful scene. Then, as tears welled up in her eyes, her face broke into a radiant smile. She laughed through her happy tears and exclaimed, “Yes, of course I will!” before throwing her arms around him.
In that moment, their warm little home became so much more—it became the place where their forever began.[/field]
