A Traditional Hawaiian Wedding at the Biltmore Santa Barbara

There’s nothing more romantic than when a couple incorporates traditions from their unique heritages to their wedding day. From leis to paper cranes, little nods to their Hawaiian culture were sprinkled throughout their SoCal day at The Biltmore – planned by Event of The Season. Coco Rose Design brought their vision to life with multiple floral arches and lush centerpieces. For an instant dose of vitamin D, check out the full gallery of details captured by Tanya Menoni.

From Tenth and Grace… Corey and Evan incorporated Hawaiian traditions into their beautiful Southern California wedding, held at the The Four Seasons Resort Biltmore in Santa Barbara.

During the couple’s first look, Corey presented Evan with a traditional Hawaiian lei.

The Hawaiian feel also extended to the reception decor, where thousands of paper cranes decorated the Biltmore ballroom and escort card display.

Their beautiful outdoor ceremony was the scene of many laughs and tears, as the bride and groom wrote their own heartfelt vows. It was a gorgeous Fall day for these two to tie the knot!

Get The Look: Cozy Chic

This living room is the EPITOME of cozy. Every element works together to give you a holistic, seasonal vibe but in a way that’s natural and well worked out. We knew we had to break it down! It’s just too good. The key to this room is texture and subtle, coordinating details. The kind of details that invite you to kick off your shoes and have a cup of coffee, all while preserve a sense of curated luxury.

  1. The coffee table sets the tone for all of the other accessories — the rustic wood with the metal detail provides a great base for everything else too coordinate flawlessly
  2. Instant cozy factor — a candle that not only smells good but looks good too.
  3. Textured trays contain smaller elements while also adding a bit of diversity to your set up
  4. Lanterns are a well-charactered way to tie in some of the metal elements
  5. A large vase is never the wrong answer. Pop in some colorful seasonal stems and you’re good to go!
  6. The pairing of a soft jewel-toned pillow with a supple leather pillow gives the whole couch a cozy facelift
  7. The beige curtains paired with black rods bring the whole look together while elevating the eye.
  8. Greenery always packs a punch, but when you’re dealing with something as fickle as an olive tree — not shame in going faux!

Adding just a few of these cozy elements to your own living room can help you make a beautiful transition into colder weather.

Chic Pink and Green Baby Shower

This sweet pink and green baby shower is giving us some MAJOR spring fever! Just take a look and you’ll get what we mean. Please take note of the AHmazing swing.

My sister, mother and I had the honor of throwing one of my life long best friends, Stephanie, (who is really more like family – we call her our sister!) a baby shower for her soon-to-be baby girl, Susannah.

Stephanie has begun decorating her nursery and the first thing that went up is this gorgeous green and white floral wall paper. She’s going to add accents of a sweet peachy-pink so it feels just right for baby girl. Given this information, we decided that a pink and green shower was the only way to go for our girl.

Stephanie’s style is very traditional and timeless; so we carried that throughout the design of the shower. Dixie Design gifted us with gorgeous invitations that featured a pink and green floral crest with pops of yellow butterflies. The envelope liner was a pink and white stripe, and I absolutely loved the mixture of patterns. The invitation set the tone for the day, so we matched everything we could to it to create a cohesive look.

We filled every nook and cranny we could with flowers that were gifted to us from Fifty Flowers. My mother, sister and I spent an entire day creating the arrangements which we so enjoyed. The flowers we chose from Fifty Flowers were: pink astilbe, white peonies, lily of the valley, dried blush Italian ruscus, dried pink canary grass, charity garden roses, dinner plate dahlias, light pink ranunculus, pink Japanese sweet peas, white with a hint of blush anemones, and various greenery.

Keeping with the floral theme, we rented a stunning pink and green floral linen from La Tavola which we placed a human sized floral arrangement on to create a big statement piece. We used this table for her guest book, which was a darling Beatrix Potter story book – everyone wrote a note to her future baby girl on a different page.

The shower was at 11am, the perfect time for brunch. The mother to be has celiac, so we made sure everything edible was gluten free, including the fried chicken and waffle bites – yum! Everyone sat around a long family style table dressed with white chivari chairs, pink taffeta linens, green shantung silk napkins tied with a white silk ribbon, and white chargers. Each place setting had a place card with their name hand painted by Shannon Kirsten and a few pieces of dried pink canary grass held on by a wax seal.

The florals on the dining table were in white vases we found from Target. Some had a scalloped edge and some had a sweet hobnail detail. We found they worked perfectly with the aesthetic we were trying to achieve. We finished brunch with cake – a piece of chocolate and a piece of vanilla (both gluten free!) from a local bakery, Hometown Desserts.

Time to move guests indoors to open presents. We opened presents around my sisters fireplace which was adorned with a beautiful piece of garland and a decorated cross on the mantle. The main focus of the room however, was the adorable bassinet that Stephanie registered for from Pottery Barn Baby. The white wicker gave it a vintage feel and it couldn’t have been cuter with a fluffy pink bow on top.

Once gifts were over, we sent everyone on their way with a small bouquet as their favor. We wrapped greenery and flowers in pink wax paper and tied them off with a bow and tag from Dixie Design that matched the invitation. All in all, the day was a big success and filled with lots of smiles and love for Stephanie and baby.

Free Spirits Will Love This Elevated Summer Camp Wedding

Love is in the (open) air at this elevated California camp wedding. For her wedding venue the bride chose the summer camp she worked as a counselor at, and the result is an outdoorsy dream come true. With the expert help of Jacqueline Hallgarth, the couple created an immersive and engaging weekend for all to enjoy. Artful flower arrangements by Amanda Vidmar Designs made guests feel transported to a magical place. The talented Laura Ford was there to capture all the details. Experience the magic of a modern summer camp in the full gallery.

From the bride… We wanted an “elevated camp” vibe. The location is stunningly beautiful, but we wanted to add some elements that took it from rustic to glam.

Our wedding reflected what we loved most: food, drinks, music and being together with our friends. That was our main focus, figuring out how we could make the experience immersive and engaging for our guests the entire weekend.

We wanted everyone to feel transported to a magical place they’d never been before. Our guests had the ability to hike, kayak, paddle board, paddle boat, or just lounge around camp with a glass of wine. A little something for everyone.

Edgy New York Style Meets California Cool In This Inspiration Shoot

Saturated hues, edgy New York vibes, and a Southern California backdrop make for endless wedding day inspiration. Inspired by autumn in New York, Velvet Alley Events created a color story of amber, mustard, and ecru that will make your heart pump. No detail was spared, including floral choices by Besame Floral and Event Design based on the meaning behind each flower. Anya Kernes Photography’s beautiful imagery helps to bring this story to life. You’ll be delighted by all the details in the full gallery.

From Soltana of Velvet Alley EventsThe Gardens at Los Robles Greens located in Southern California set the backdrop with its lovely blooming trees alluding to New York’s Central Park. The ceremony area’s details of the dark chestnut backdrop, lined brick, walls blanketed with vines, and majestic wrought iron gates were reminiscent of New York’s austere Brownstone neighborhoods.

Creating a story was the primary goal of Floral Designer Jazmin of Besame Floral and Event Design. Inspiration gleaned on the warm, transitional colors of Autumn and the symbolism of the blooms. Tawny Chrysanthemums in the bouquet symbolize loyalty and devotion. Sepia tinged garden roses represent warmth and stability. And plumes of Pampas Grass added a hint of Southern California coastal charm.

The bountiful tablescape accompanied with drapes of curtain fairy lights set the tone for an intimate, alfresco dining experience. And My Lovely Events created a chic, modern lounge vignette. Rounding out the décor is the neon “Love Made Us Do it” in cold, white LED as a playful commemoration to the nightscape billboard lights of Times Square.

5 New Nuptials Trends That Have Us Embracing the 2021, Post-COVID Wedding Mood In a Major Way

It’s 1/11/2021 today, pretties, and we’re feeling all kinds of great about it. 2020 is past us (hooray!!) and this year is looking up. Although so much hardship, confusion, and disappointment transpired last year, our industry totally rose to the occasion, and we wouldn’t be sensationalizing by saying that weddings from here on out will be ultimately and unanimously wonderful. We know what can happen, so we’re prepared for affairs small and grand, serendipitous elopements or those planned, and everything micro-wedding-fitting, because we’re 100 percent stans. To our couples, our vendors, our venues, and our readers, let’s make 2021 the best year yet!

Of course, with the arrival of a new year, we’re always quick to think about trends that we know will be popping up all over the 2021 nuptials landscape. But, this time around, we think it’d probably behoove us to look more at trends for the whole year versus trends for each season. COVID brought a lot of bad with it, but one of the silver linings to its pursuit of undoing is the dissolution of templatized events, gatherings, social experiences, and general time spent together. When it comes to one of the biggest and most momentous occasions then, a wedding, there isn’t a formula that couples have to show allegiance to anymore. You can go rogue and have it translate into the most resplendent, creative, and talk-worthy event ever.

So, what does a wedding look like without a blueprint for its success? Well, for one, it’s incredibly personalized, and moreover it’s an experience that a couple can look back on and say ‘well, yeah, we had to keep things small and embrace a socially-distanced soiree, but OMG, it precipitated one of the coolest, most inspiring wedding transformations ever.’ Winter and spring wedding trends, summer and fall wedding trends, they’ve all brought us smiles, but mark our words: 2021 wedding trends are topping them all. (And they won’t be ending up on any ‘what trends to say goodbye to’ lists, either, because #timeless).

Once you’ve scrolled through all of our 2021 wedding predictions, don’t forget to take a peek at our Style Me Pretty Shop. We’ve got the paper goods and gifts, decor and details to help make sure your upcoming wedding is one you’ll remember forever and cherish for always. Everything is available to shop now on site!

Read on for some of the trends we have on our radar for 2021 and what to shop to build a totally-new and totally-you look for your own best day ever.

An out-of-the-box welcome.

We’ve always been fans of the wedding welcome bag, but this year introduced us to the wedding box – and we’re still really wrapped up in the look of it. So, what’s new for this welcome box that wasn’t such a big thing for the bag? Well, 1) if you’re sticking with a smaller guest list, you can get a little more generous with the contents (not just a couple small nips of alcohol, a pair of water bottles, and a locally-sourced snack or two, these might have a reusable water bottle. a more full-size bottle of champs or the bride or groom’s favorite bottle, and personalized flutes or whisky glasses, etc.) and 2) since we’re still living in a COVID-conscious world, you might want to include curated hand sanitizers or colorful disinfecting mists to match your color palette and stylish, aesthetic-coordinated face masks that your guests can wear to your wedding.

Photo by Aaron & Jillian Photography

Another great add? A handwritten thank you note that feels a lot more special and genuine. We’ve got so many pretty options to consider!

A reception with stations.

Yes, we’ve seen this before in cocktail hour food and drink action stations and impressive dessert hours with endless confection vignettes and coffee bar setups, but receptions to come are going to go ALL in on the mix and matched event areas. Drinks over here, food over there, something experiential going on in the front (think: your photo booth, an artist or a cool live entertainment ensemble), or a luxe lounge locale in the back.

Our thoughts on a fun way to call these creative stations out? Neon signage, of course. First comes a tiny toast with those you love the most in your bridal suite (we like this one, because the party don’t start, till some bottles get popped), then comes all the sweet moments you know you and your guests will LOVE (this one is perfect for above the photo booth area or wherever the wedding cake is being displayed), and finally, what’s a proper sendoff without some hydration for the road? Hang our ‘don’t go thirsty’ sign up above your send off station, so your nearest and dearest can grab a snack and sips to go – canned mocktails are a must!!

A turn up for your tablescapes.

So, speaking of mixing and matching – guest table arrangements and setups have gotten a lot more intriguing and intentional since social distancing became a thing. In the past, we’d pack dozens and dozens of tables into a reception area and they’d all end up looking the same, which ends up feeling really bleh, to be honest. Nowadays, since we’re tasked to finesse a fete with an appropriate distance between tables, we can get really design-y and editorial with the audience ambiance.

We’re big fans of using a blend of round and square, big and small tables, to create drama in the room – and going extravagant with the table toppers is the necessary next step! 👉 Designing your wedding tablescape(s) is a lot easier than you think!

Candles will be your best friend to light up the look of your tables, as will delicate drinking glasses that nod to your special day.

Special seats for the guests of honor.

We love a good sweetheart table, truly we do, but intimate weddings as of late have brought the couple back into the company of their closest friends and fam – and we’re SO here for it. Whether you’re sitting down with your wedding party or pulling up a chair at a super-long banquet table that hosts ALL of your bests, you’ll want to stand out. We’ve got quite a few bride and groom and couple-of-the-day chair signs that bring totally charming personalization to your seating assignments.

Tented transformations that transcend twinkle lights.

Tented weddings have been big for years, but recent events have made them even more coveted, because #outdoordigsmakedistancingeasier. That being said, the gold standard in tent-elevating tricks, for nearly a decade, has been twinkle or fairy lights or, even more recently, floral chandeliers. They look stunning, for sure, but this year, we’re excited to see more high-concept hanging decor and installs being swapped in.

Enter our Style Me Pretty iron hanging chandeliers. Beautiful on their own, these gorgeous hanging pieces have 3 bands that swivel to form a 18″ wide x 25″ tall chandelier. Simply rotate to move the bands in place, tighten, and start decorating! We like fresh or faux florals, but you can absolutely take those twinkle lights, crystals, or ribbon and weave them in for a really fun custom chandelier creation. The best part, though? Once your wedding is over, you can repurpose these pieces in your home with seasonal greenery for year-round use!

Another idea? Use something like our wedding backdrop banner to hang up around the perimeter. It’s also a a blast to run through if you’re doing wedding party introductions! Great photo opp potential!

Romantic Chateau Inspiration Right Here in the USA, Designed With a High Fashion Bride in Mind

If you’re a bride that lives for high fashion, but loves an old world feel – this one’s for you! Leave it to Lauren Fair and Arielle Fera Events to bring the romance and allure of Europe to the States. They designed a shoot that incorporates the old-world character of Elkins Estate, infused with a modern feel. If you didn’t already know, Elkins Estate is a 45-room manor built in the style of Italian High Renaissance – smack dab in the suburbs of Philadelphia! To watch the magic unfold, check out the full gallery of inspiration, complete with hundreds of breathtaking blooms by Twisted Willow Flowers.

From Lauren Fair Photography The concept for this shoot was centered around a historic estate, Elkins Estate, that is currently being revitalized into a luxurious new wedding venue in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Our team sought out to produce inspiration that incorporates the old-world character of Elkins Estate while infusing a modern + very romantic feel. High fashion, yet approachable for a bride. We designed this shoot with a high-end bride in mind; one that loves fashion, the richness that comes with a historic, opulent, gilded venue but also loves refinement through modern details. Elkins Estate, owned by Landmark Venues; is a 45-room manor built in the style of Italian High Renaissance.

The unique interior features, such as the ornately carved wood and gilded molding, marble columns and accents, frescoed ceilings, gargoyles and the like, were crafted in Europe and shipped to the United States, where they were assembled on site. The interior was designed by renowned French interior decor experts Allard et Fils, which accounts for the distinctly French feel in some of the rooms. The Estate sits on 42 rolling acres. It is the perfect venue for a couple who wants a European feel for their wedding without having to travel overseas. The venue is so vast and offers amazing indoor and outdoor spaces, we decided to feature two couples in order to capture the grandness of the venue. We also featured designer gowns by some of the designers in the industry. For a bride that loves fashion, one dress is clearly not enough. This shoot is rich with beautiful dresses that are both high-fashion yet approachable and extremely romantic and feminine. For the shoot we opted for a romantic palette consisting of muted + rich tonal shades of blush, cream, light rusty peach, café au lait and cream all accented with hints of gold.

Ashley and Emmanuel are an engaged couple who modeled for us. Twisted Willow Flowers created a gorgeous + sprawling ceremony arch that was set on one of the Estate’s elaborate outdoor staircases. It is a beautiful backdrop for the couple to be elevated above their admiring guests. Ashley wore gorgeous designer gowns by designer Alon Livne provided by Jessica Haley Bridal and designer gowns by Alon Livne and PRONOVIAS provided by La Belle Mariee. Ashley’s makeup was subtle and soft while her hair was styled into a dramatic power ponytail by Michele Wilderman. The gorgeous jewelry that she wore was provided by Kellmer Jewelers. Their wedding cake was creatively crafted by NutMeg Cake Design to be reminiscent of a sculpture that complements the stateliness of the venue. Arielle Fera Events curated a gorgeous ensemble of lounge furniture from White Glove Rentals that was styled on one of the grand balconies. A hand-drawn venue sketch adorned the couple’s invitation suite that was beautifully designed by PaperTree Studio.

Mid-Century Modern Meets California Cool

Editor’s Note: This STUNNING home is a great example of what happens when you take a specific design style and adapt it to your surroundings. While the nods to the mid-century modern design style can be found throughout the whole home, designer Lindye Galloway perfectly incorporated some of the best aspects of California living.

Take a look! Be sure to stop and TRULY appreciate the kitchen with its double island situation (yeah just wait, it’s amazing.)

Can you share a little background on the client (lifestyle, job, family)

This client is a young family of 5. They lived in this home for a handful of years when they first bought it and have immersed themselves in the community and that Corona del Mar beach lifestyle! They then decided it was time to turn their dream lot into their dream home so gut the entire home!

Type of home and approx. Square footage?

This is a mid-century modern meets California cool style. A little modern, a little coastal for the perfect family home that blends high-end design with the practicalities of a growing family. The new home is 3,600 square feet.

What were your client’s goals for this project?

They wanted to completely update the home while keeping a nod to the original mid-century modern style. We took the entire home back to the studs but kept the roofline and front exterior footprint the same to keep the part of the home that drew them to that spot in the first place. Inside they wanted an open concept, large kitchen with a double island and a livable approach to a minimalistic mid-century modern home. Lastly, since this home is just steps from the beach, we wanted an indoor/outdoor feel to catch that ocean breeze. Large bi-fold doors throughout and plenty of windows for natural light captured the essence of the area!

What was the scope of work? Remodel, ground up?

This was a remodel and we took the home back to the studs!

How would you best describe the design aesthetic/style of this project?

This is a livable and approachable take on a mid-century modern style with a touch of coastal. For a busy family in Southern California, it was important to marry both form and function!

Can you give 1-2 sentences for each room setting – either your inspiration, client’s goal, challenges, design elements you love, etc Room settings: Living room, dining room, kitchen, entry, master bedroom, master bath, pink bathroom, bathroom with wood paneling, boys room

The kitchen features gorgeous wood-paneled cabinetry and a double island! The double island is our perfect blend of form and function. One can be used for prepping meals and cooking while the other island creates an intimate feel for family dinners on a Friday evening or entertaining with friends over wine.

The living room centers around the geometric modern fireplace and offers plenty of indoor/outdoor entertaining with the large bi-fold doors that lead to the backyard.

The entry brings all the drama! The floor to ceiling wood paneling created give a unique take while incorporating cement consoles and is complemented by the brass and metal door (which is also a Dutch door!).

The master bathroom is modern but warm and mixes layers of marble for an elevated look. We brought in statement worthy pieces, like the lights and hardware for an extra touch.

We wanted to make the kid’s rooms feel special while mature so it can grow with the kids through many stages of life. A pop of light pink in the girl’s bath is just the touch of girly it needed and the boy’s bedroom full of textures and layers gives the California vibe they live each day.

Ahhh, Montauk in the summer – I mean really is there anything better?! I think not. We’ll be sitting here daydreaming all week long about today’s swoon-worthy summer soirée, reminding us that warmth on the East Coast is actually a thing (while it sure feels impossible to conceive of right now!) With planning help from All Who Wander Events, these two pulled off their dream elegant wedding  at a private estate out east – all in a matter of weeks! Just wait until you see how gorgeous it is. Bring a bit of sunshine to your life and check out the full gallery, all taken by Jaine Kershner Photography!

From the Bride… After a year plus of planning the “dream” wedding we had always imagined, it was hard to wrap our heads around the idea that that dream might just have to wait. But, while Covid threw a wrench in our original plans, it presented us with an opportunity that is now one of our fondest, and most cherished, memories.

Once it became clear that the large wedding we were planning wasn’t going to take place anytime soon, all we could focus on was just getting married. In a few short weeks, we pulled together the things that were most important to making that happen – finding a church, coordinating with our immediate families, and getting the dress and suit tailored in record time ;)

All of the vendors that we still have booked for the big day totally rallied around us and jumped at the opportunity to make this “mini-mony” as special as it could be. When it came to design, simple was the name of the game. I wanted a no-fuss, no-stress day and, luckily I already had a vision of what I wanted the design elements to look like. We followed the general design plan that we are still hoping to use one day at a large reception, but ultimately we were blessed with a beautiful, sunny, July day in Montauk and that is truly what made the day so perfect. Looking back, I now can’t imagine getting married any other way.

This Unforgettable Moment Never Would Have Happened if COVID Didn’t Change Their Wedding Plans

Like many of us, exchanging personal vows in front a large audience can sound like a daunting experience (I know it did for me! Hellooo, bridal stage-fright is real) So when today’s couple was forced to bring down their original guest count from a whopping 220 people to a mere 19, they decided to take advantage of the situation and craft their own vows. Turns out – it was their favorite memory of the day. One that never would have happened if they went through with their original wedding plans. how crazy is that?! To watch the magic unfold, don’t miss out on the full gallery – taken by The Ganeys with planning from Riley Loves Lulu.

From the bride… Bay Area natives, Matt swam at the University of Virginia and Maddie played soccer at Boston College. As post-grads living in San Francisco, we both joined the Olympic Club to play our respective sports and meet new people. Little did we both know that the club would bring us to each other. We met over a few cocktails one Thursday night at the OClub bar after a swim dinner. We quickly bonded over playing sports at ACC schools, our dear college friendships and our passion for the outdoors. Matt asked me out and that was it. After three apartment moves, a puppy named George, many adventures and four years of dating, Matt proposed on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore with a few of our close friends and family watching. We spent the rest of the weekend skiing, drinking and celebrating our engagement.

Our original vision for our wedding day was a large, black tie wedding at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton on September 12th, 2020. When covid hit, it took Matt and I awhile to postpone. We had a really hard time letting go of our original wedding dream. Optimists at heart, we thought we might be able to have something of our original plan. We had also grown to love our 9/12/20 date and didn’t want to wait any longer to be married. I spent so much time leading up to the wedding concerned about what our wedding could NOT be and living in my fears about getting married without the big party. Would I feel fulfilled? Would I be upset the day of because my family and friends weren’t present? Would I regret getting married without a bachelorette party, a bridal shower or a rehearsal dinner? Would people want to celebrate us next year after we had already been married for a year? It wasn’t until a good friend (aka my therapist) encouraged me to start dreaming about what our day COULD BE and how I would feel standing at the altar marrying Matt that I started to love the idea of a microwedding. With a newfound excitement, our classic, black tie wedding evolved into an intimate backyard garden party. We pushed the larger reception to next year and shifted locations, deciding to get married on my parent’s property – a home that my grandparents bought in the 1970s. My mother was raised in the house and part of my parent’s wedding day was also there. I spent the morning of our wedding flipping through my parent’s wedding photos. It was so fun to see my parents celebrating their marriage in the same space that Matt and I were about to become husband and wife. Everyone present at the wedding felt and knew how incredibly special the location was. My grandparents always talked about their legacy and loved hosting gatherings in that backyard. Knowing that we were continuing our family legacy in their backyard is truly a feeling that is hard for me to articulate.

When I reflect on our wedding day, our ceremony is by far my most cherished memory. Matt and I both are extremely close to our siblings and we really wanted to include them as an integral part of our ceremony. My older brother Wes served as our officiant, crafting the most touching ceremony mixing the perfect balance between humor and heartfelt. Matt’s older sister Sarah read a poem while Matt’s younger sister Emily, a wonderfully talented singer, sang Can’t Help Falling in Love as the bridal processional and Make You Feel My Love part way through the ceremony.

Matt and I weren’t high on reading personal vows in front of 220 people. We feared ugly crying and it felt like far too much pressure. When we realized we only needed to say our vows in front of 19 people and into a camera for the livestream, we decided to craft our own. I am thrilled we did. We shared our favorite memories, our hopes and dreams for our marriage, and, of course, our promises to each other. It was still daunting and there was most definitely some ugly crying, but hearing and saying those words meant everything to us. At the end of the ceremony, we kissed, and danced down the aisle to Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours by Stevie Wonder. Everyone kicked off the cocktail hour crying tears of joy and hugging each other. Every disappointment in wedding planning was worth that moment of pure, unfiltered celebration.

The rest of the evening was spent drinking, toasting and dining around a long farm table under bistro lights. Our family surprised us with a compilation of video toasts from our friends and family from across the country. The toasts – both present and virtual – meant so much to us. Talk about ugly crying. After dinner, we cut the cake in front of our floral arch and under my favorite, “The Murrays” neon sign. We danced our first dance as husband and wife to Diamonds and Twine by Ryan Hurd and kicked off our tito and fresca filled evening. Our silent disco was a definite highlight allowing us to enjoy the party late into the night without disrupting our neighbors.

If I could give my fellow covid brides any piece of advice it is: it will all be worth it. With the help of my amazing vendors, our microwedding enabled me to incorporate some of the details I really wanted into our big day. Monogrammed napkins? Yep! Everyone sitting around one table? Easy! A neon sign dangling from a floral arch of my dreams? Why not!

Having a smaller wedding also enabled Matt and I to focus on what really mattered: our marriage. When the smoke from the fires turned our California sky a dark ominous orange 72 hours before our wedding, we just had to laugh (after sobbing for a bit #2020). We feel so fulfilled from our big day and cannot express enough gratitude to our family and friends who got covid tested to ensure a safe celebration and our vendors who made our wedding day a memory we will cherish forever.

Intimate Ceremony at The Fairmont Grand Del Mar

This intimate wedding ceremony will leave you speechless. Naya and Jordan exchanged vows in a private courtyard surrounded by blooms at the elegant Fairmont Del Grand, while guests watched from a safe distance on their balconies. They even had champagne and cake delivered to their rooms! The couple worked with Lavish Wed to create an unforgettable day full of special touches and swoon-worthy details. Natalie Bray Studios captured the charm of the day to perfection. Visit the full gallery to watch the wedding day unfold.

From Lavish WedNaya wore a slip dress from Grace loves Lace that had an elegant floral design for a romantic touch. The bouquet was bright and vibrant with stunning orchids and garden roses as the feature. Jordan chose a wonderful light mauve for a modern groom look.

The ceremony design circled them with luscious blooms from Eucharis Studio that was a modern take on a circular ceremony design. Since the guests had a view from above, we wanted the ceremony to be beautiful at all angles. During the ceremony, Amy Serrano played her electric violin for a memorable walk down the aisle.

All the guests cheered and clapped from their beautiful suites and were delivered cake and champagne to enjoy with the couple right after the ceremony. It was a beautiful day not to be forgotten!

A Chinoiserie Office Makeover in Connecticut

Spring arrives and all of a sudden we’re ready to redecorate. Does anyone else get that fever too? Well, designer and photographer Erin Kestenbaum found herself doing just that and decided it was time to overhaul her home office! Looking to mix a touch of chinoiserie with a few modern touches, Erin turned to a few of her favorite vintage sources to blend old with new. The office was yet another DIY makeover Erin embarked on in the colonial Connecticut home she shares with her husband. We chatted with Erin about her design philosophies and the vision behind her home workspace.

Tell us a little about yourself and your business?

Two and a half years ago, my husband and I bought our first house: a 1940’s Colonial in Coastal Connecticut that needed quite a bit of love. We have been spending our nights and weekends bringing character to the home, with the goal of using our DIY skills to create spaces that are elevated and look professionally executed. Additionally, I shoot interiors photography for designers local to NYC and Connecticut, capturing their own projects alongside my own, and also work in Marketing for a NYC-based retail start-up.

What’s a typical work day for you like?

While I don’t work from my home office on daily basis, I’m typically working in my office during nights and weekends on editing photos, creating design schemes, and blogging about the progress we’re making on our home projects.

How do you blend your love of interiors with photography?

Every time I’m designing a space, my first consideration is how the room will photograph: what are the key angles of the room, where is there opportunity to craft a shot, and how will people interact and experience the space. Once a project enters an execution phase, I’m shooting photos in the middle to identify what the space might be missing or identifying visually the opportunities to push the space further. And then finally, once a space is completed, I’m capturing the photos of the space. By working with local designers, I’m also able to assist with styling to capturing other incredible spaces, and sharing that love of both interiors and photography with my clients and the homeowners.

Take us through your office, what was your vision when designing the space? Is it in line with the decor of your home or is this room a little different?

When designing the office, my first focus was on the function of the space and laying out the room to allow for more organization and better flow. By moving the desk to the wall most visible from the hallway it created a natural opportunity for a focal point. I had been obsessing for months over this theme of modern chinoiserie: combining a traditional chinoiserie wallpaper mural with more modern furniture and accessories. In every room I design, I’m looking to infuse modern and traditional design together, and I wanted this space to continue that theme. Once I found this epic Tempaper Chinoiserie Wallpaper, it became an anchor for the room, and all the other pieces fell into place. I like to think of the rooms in my home as siblings and not twins: they all share traditional moulding details (like crown moulding and ceiling medallions), immersive wall treatments, modern lighting and vintage casegoods, and the office fits in perfectly without being overly matching to the other rooms.

What are your must haves for a home office – especially for those that spend most of the time working from home?

My essentials for working in an at home office are a comfortable desk chair (this CB2 one was a huge upgrade from my previous very uncomfortable vintage chair), ample task lighting, window treatments to control glare, and a large monitor for editing photos.

What is your favorite thing about the space? (an item, section of the room, etc.)

This is a toss up between the wallpaper mural – the detailing in the printing is so incredible and the metallic sheen is gorgeous, and the vintage Chinese Elmwood desk that I won at auction – it’s from the late 1800’s and was constructed using only dowels with no nails or screws. It’s an amazing example of craftsmanship that you rarely encounter in new furniture.

Did you go totally DIY on this project or did you have a little help?

We DIY-ed this entire project, from hanging the crown moulding, refinishing the floors, hanging the wallpaper, building the window bench and painting the entire space, we did it all.

For someone looking to revamp their office, where should one start?

Start with your functional needs, because without storage, it will quickly look cluttered and be somewhere that you don’t feel inspired to work.

What are your favorite places to shop for pieces?

I love vintage furniture and spend lots of time scouring Facebook Marketplaces, Craigslist and estate sales for one of a kind treasures that are both unique and also very budget friendly. I also love working with vintage rug vendors that I’ve discovered on Instagram, like Zartiques, for rugs that bring instant patina, warmth, and character to any room. For non-vintage finds, I love CB2 for modern, clean lined furniture and affordable accessories.

What’s on your home ‘wish list’ right now?

Right now, I’m on the hunt for statement-making outdoor dining chairs, lots of planters for our patio, and a great outdoor rug.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone embarking on their own DIY home project?

Document everything! There are so many process photos that I wish I had taken in order to properly share exactly how others in my shoes can accomplish the same project.

From Kindergarten Classmates to Husband & Wife! See Their Ultra Chic Wedding at Pelican Hill Resort

Today’s adorable couple tied the knot under the iconic Rotunda at Pelican Hill, complete with hundreds of flowers by Bloom Box, romantic drapery and sweeping views. I mean… does it get any dreamier than that?! Lynden Lane left no detail unturned and kept the festivities going off without a hitch, while the couple and their guests danced the night away in an indoor reception dripping in chandeliers. Read on to learn about their love story (they unknowingly were in the same kindergarten class!) and head on over to the full gallery to see all the steal-worthy details – captured by Feather & Stone!

From the couple… The bride and groom both grew up in Seattle nunknowingly were in the same kindergarten class. Aashima’s family moved away and they wouldn’t meet again until Aashima traveled back to Seattle for a work trip. They met again and fell in love. They took their adventures together to San Francisco and started their lives together in the city. The details of their wedding weekend were extremely and they wanted to give their guests a destination and a wedding experience to remember. Looking up and down the coast of California they landed at the beautiful Pelican Hill Resort.

Next came the design and the transformation plans! As both the bride and groom were full time professionals working in the city they knew that they wanted to be hands on, but needed to work with a team that could completely create, design and plan the wedding of their dreams. Working with the Lynden Lane Co. They focused on really curating items and design elements that would make their guests feel like the event about their experience. Lynden Lane Co suggested that we work with the impeccable Simone Le Blanc to create custom welcome bags with all of our favorite items, but still with the look and feel of our wedding.

We worked with Yonder Design to create really beautiful invitations, menus and signage that represented the cohesive botanical evening theme of the event. Lynden Lane worked with the Amber Event Production team to create custom valanced drapery and chandeliers that were different than had ever been done in the ballroom.

Really focusing one unique, but classic fabrics we tried to create a space that felt true to us, but made the guests feel like they were entering a chic dinner party. We danced the night away to the James Gang Band from West Coast Music and David even touted his DJ skills with Red Shoe La at the after party. It was really the best night of our lives.
