Beach Wedding at the Ocean Reef Club

Give me a tropical beach wedding and I’m one happy lady. It might be the sky-high palms, the pup in pearls or the beachy-white bouquets from Parrish Designs that have reeled me into this seaside soiree from Binary Flips, but as one pretty package, this breezy romance has hit the spot. See sooo much more in the gallery!

From Binary Flips… Weddings by the beach will always have a place in our hearts. We were almost at a loss for words when we first saw the breathtaking venue. The color palette that Ashley picked for her day perfectly matched the club’s tropical setting. They exchanged vows on the ‘ceremony island’ with an almost endless ocean view. Ashley looked stunning in her Monique Lhuillier as she walked down the isle that is perfectly lined by towering palm trees. As the sun settled, everyone was treated with a gorgeous early moonlight backdrop. Everybody wished it never ended, but nevertheless it was the perfect way to remember it.

From Paige Lewis Events… With a growing number of requests to produce French themed weddings, I wanted to respond by designing a shoot based on the French icon herself, Marie Antoinette. Although popular, brides and ladies alike will never get enough of Mrs. Antoinette and her timeless taste for opulence. With this in mind, I went to work on gathering an extensive team of amazing vendors to put together our own version and vision of this fabulous icon.

Everyone on board was excited to create in a mirage of pastels, pinks and golds and to bring back the timelessness tones that all of us love. Although we were all working in the same direction, it was fantastic to see the results of each vendor’s own personal Marie Antoinette touch. Our goal was to create the grand tablescape with all of the much loved details, a plethora of cakes, a vanity scene, a multitude of props, favours and details, and, of course, stunning bridals.

Keeping in mind the age and the tone of Marie Antoinette, the bride was to have two looks – one that brought out a royal, fancy side, and one that brought out a softer, sweeter side. Ines DiSanto gowns were necessary in achieving this look. The champagne and intricate beading of the Metis gown were perfect for the royal look, while Versailles’ soft white lace and fine details showcased our sweeter side. Tara Fava’s jewellery was perfect in that it extended to both looks with different pieces for each, while Blair Nadeau’s floral fascinator suited the Versailles dress exquisitely and really brought out the floral look we were going for. Samantha Wilson of Blush Pretty ensured a high bouffant royal look for our bride and then softened the effect by having light wisps and strands of hair fall for the second look. Vivian R. captured Marie Antoinette’s young and innocent complexion by keeping the makeup light and pretty, while working in the pink tones of the overall theme.

The location of the shoot could no have been better. The McLean House at the Estates of Sunnybrook boasted exceptional amounts of sunlight in a lovely white room, and presented a perfect white canvas for our pastel palette. Paige Lewis Events chose a lush combination of several rose varieties and hydrangeas in pastel tones, while adding in various hues of beige to replicate the colours of the time. Floral creations included several lavish arrangements, floral chandelier covers and floral chaise backs for extra details and luxury. Gold vases were used in addition to the intricately detailed china on the table, which also reflected the era’s golds and touches of muted turquoise. William Ashley China provided these place settings, as well oversized crystal champagne goblets, fit for any queen.

Placed delicately on the china were the menus, beautifully made and provided by Anista Designs. The menus showcased an entire course of desserts in true Marie Antoinette style, and featured soft pinks and mauves, as did the invitations; much like the historic stationery created for the actual engagement party of the young Dauphin and Dauphine in 1770.

As for the infamous cakes, Connie Cupcake did a spectacular job of creating three cakes for our shoot: one adorned with gold truffles and hand-crafted crown molding, one with beautiful pearls, gold claw feet and topped with a soft ostrich feather, and one beautifully high cake covered in sugar florals and pretty pinks. Connie also provided petite mini cake creations for each guest place setting, which completed the tablescape design.

Guest Favours were fabulous fascinators provided by Blair Nadeau, placed in pretty hat boxes with gift tags provided by Anista Designs. Last but not least, and in order to detail and finish the look as a whole, various props were supplied by Anne & Co., including french perfume bottles, vanity mirrors and our favourite: masquerade ball masks covered in lace.

With a fantastic group of ladies in a room and a multitude of gorgeous details, creativity is at its best, and our shoot was no exception. We decided to use the stunning lavender bridal suite at the venue to create a boudoir style setting for our lovely bride, whilst bringing in the various aspects of the shoot, including elements such as cakes, stationery, hat boxes, shoes and fascinators. This scene provided us with an entirely different look, while staying focused on our theme.

Photographer Krista Fox was phenomenal in capturing every look and detail of our work, and finished the project by providing breathtaking photos. From the sun-lit room to the lavender boudoir, the shoot was a fantastic display of all things French, pretty and girlie. We were thrilled with the results.

Romantic, Vintage, DIY Chicago Wedding at Salvage One

Salvage One is a venue unlike any other. It beautifully combines charm and style, and the weddings there? Well they are always beyond – particularly when Olivia Leigh Photographie is behind the lens to capture the magic. Weddings like this one make us want to jump right out of our chairs, and you can see why here.

Urban Space

From the Bride…Perhaps the most defining choice in planning our wedding was the date itself. I fell madly in love with a spectacularly nontraditional venue in Chicago – a place that is as quirky as it is elegant, as unexpected as it is inviting. The choice was easy, but the timing was complicated – due to availability, our only option was to have our wedding in January…a month most other Chicago brides would never consider. But we knew our wedding wouldn’t be us without this venue, so I let go of the fear of blizzards and freezing temperatures, and warmly embraced the idea of a cozy winter affair.

Planning this wedding was truly a gift – I wish every bride the opportunity to feel so cared for and to have so many cherished experiences leading up to her big day. My partner in crime for this journey was my mom – we had been dreaming about planning this day for 30 years. From collecting vintage handkerchiefs to roasting rosemary orange nuts for all of ours guests, she was as dedicated as I was to ensuring we covered every detail.

Our January day came with blue skies and plenty of sun. It had snowed two days earlier, which meant there was just enough powder on the ground to remind us how beautiful a winter wedding could be. And once the sun set and guests began arriving, it was clear – there was no more magical place to be married on this day than at Salvage One. Exposed brick walls, antique chandeliers and apple cider invited guests to settle in for the evening.

Looking back, I am incredibly proud of all our little touches – the things you wonder along the way if anyone will even notice. My mom collected vintage handkerchiefs and sewed on tiny tags that read “happy tears”, which were given to guests before our ceremony. We set mismatched paper place mats at each place setting with silverware inside paper bags printed with the message, “It’s time to drink bubbly and dance on the tables!” Origami cranes folded from handmade paper topped our cake as a tribute to my Japanese grandmother. Our favors were gourmet chocolate bars wrapped in childhood photos of me and my husband. The brainstorming, list making, shopping, printing, and packaging was all part of this incredible journey, and I could tell from the expressions on our guests’ faces that we had successfully curated an event that inspired true joy.

I never could have imagined that in the middle of a cold Chicago winter, we would find our happiest moments and our best day ever.

Romantic Desert Engagement Session

Something about the dessert always stands out to me. Maybe its the stark beauty of barren landscape, or the warm hues of red and orange offset by green succulents and cloudless blue skies. Or, in this case, a beautiful floral crown from Flora Couture and cakes from Shanna Cakes help elevate the scene as well. Either way, huge swoon alert for Paris Mountain Photography‘s pictures of the day.

Simple & Sweet Yosemite Elopement

Do me a favor: before you do anything else re: this beautiful wedding, read the description below. Seriously… before you dive into the gorgeous images from Athena Kalindi, before you fall in love with the stunning gown from Nicole Miller and before your jaw drops over the breathtaking backdrop that is Yosemite, read the story of how two people wouldn’t let anything (and I mean anything) stop them from tying the knot in one of the world’s most gorgeous locales.  It’s truly, truly inspiring.  See it all here.

From Athena Kalindi PhotographyThis New York City couple planned a destination wedding in Yosemite with only 12 people in attendance. The government shut down, but the couple still came to California (they were supposed to get married at the Ahwahnee Hotel) and the hotel offered for them to move the wedding to the Tenaya Lodge outside of the park. With hope the park may open, the couple stayed at the Tenaya and waited until October 13th… with no movement from the government, the park was still closed. The couple decided to get dressed and attempt a park wedding anyhow! We said we were moving through to cross the park, but once inside the rangers sort of looked the other way while we spent hours alone in the vast and immense beauty of Yosemite (including being the only people at The Ahwahnee!)! After a few hours of portraits, we met the rest of the wedding party along the side of the road and conducted the ceremony. It was absolutely flawless – and the couple ended up with the wedding of their dreams.

Another super cool element to this story? Their pre – wedding story was told by many major publications including the BBC and Buzzfeed. They were grouped with some other couples who told stories about how the Government closure had affected their wedding plans.

Rustic Chic Barn Wedding in Buxton

Some weddings are so pretty and happy, its impossible for a smile not to reach across your face. Especially when the bouquet from Flora Fauna is this stunning. With planning + event design by Maine Seasons Events, every detail looks considered, and the bride as happy and relaxed as can be. Just take a peek at Emilie Sommer‘s pictures for a lot more prettiness where that came from.

From Emilie Sommer… Cristin and John closed down the restaurant on their first date, and I can totally see why. These two are so interesting independently and together as a couple. I thoroughly enjoyed my every interaction with them since our first meeting a year ago, straight through til the end of their (most sweaty!) wedding day (truly, it broke heat records).

I beat the girls to the house after the salon, and so while our time to get ready before the ceremony was cut shorter than planned, Cristin, her ladies, and Henry the dog (as opposed to Henry her nephew) went about their last minute dressing completely cool. I even stepped in to help tackle the buttons on the back of her beautiful gown. No big deal. On our way to the church, Cristin realized she had forgotten a pair of cards she wanted to present to her parents on their ride. No big deal. Her dad forgot his notes to practice his toast. No big deal. And this continued throughout the day, Cristin, John and their families just going with the flow and enjoying the experience for what it was, not stressing about what it wasn’t. I loved that.

After the ceremony, a lovely mass performed by one of John’s childhood friends, we returned to the house for formal photos, a rather comical experience chasing occasional clouds for some nice soft light cover, chasing Henry (both the dog and the nephew), and chasing the couple as they went down to the boathouse in a gator. It was so nice to have this pause in the day to regroup and capture a bit of the property’s significance for Cristin and her family (and John, too, who has a boat at neighboring Handy Boat and spends most weekends in Maine on it).

Next, we headed over to the Barn at Flanagan Farm in Buxton, the Barn on Walnut Hill’s new sister property. Meagan of Maine Seasons Events transformed the space into a rustic, elegant atmosphere to experience the culinary creations of Masa Miyake in a lingering multi-course meal. Yum. After the sun set, Cristin and John took to the center of the floor for their first dance, a lively emotionally-tinged trumpet solo by one of their friends. Following touching parent dances (Cristin danced with her father to Willie Nelson’s, “Everywhere I go” his eyes closed the whole time. My heart ached to imagine the memories that must have been flooding his mind at that moment), guests crowded in front of the ever-amazing band, This Way, rocking and swirling and bumping about.

Such a wonderful celebration, and a treat to be the one asked to capture it. Thank you, Cristin and John. Happy congratulations to you both. xo

Louisiana Rustic Chic Wedding Inspiration

Mondays call for a big ol’ dose of gorgeous inspiration, don’t you think? Well lucky for all of us, Brandi SmythMandy Cathey, and Silver Palate Cakery are serving up a big heaping helping of pretty so you kick off the work week in style. This gallery is the perfect compliment to your cup of jo, so dive right in here.

From Brandy Smyth PhotographyThis is an inspiration shoot with two very different looks! We had wonderful vendors that sent lots of dresses so we couldn’t help but to use 2 of our favorites! One look is more whimsical and soft while the other is bold and sexy. )

The shoot took place in Benton, LA in a field full of golden grass. We wanted to add pops of pretty colors so the florals are bright and cheerful yet subtle. We mixed together furniture and dishes, and topped the table with candle sticks, glass dome jars and lots of flowers. We displayed not one but 3 cakes on top of an old fireplace mantel set off in the distance. The bride first wore a Paolo Sebastion dress that was soft, whimsical and airy – her sheer grey dress matched the sky that day. Later in the evening to play up the golden setting she changed into a hand made dress – completely sheer see through beaded gold top with long flowing bands of chiffon on bottom, bold red lips, and a bouquet that went perfectly! (my personal favorite – such a unique dress this was!)

All-White Wedding Inspiration

I love a good splash of color just as much as the next gal, trust me. Peaches, pinks, seafoam blues… all right up my alley. But time and again, I fall head over heels for the all-white or neutral palette. It makes way for a statement, whether a be the venue or a bride’s stunning dress. Prettied up by Zest It Up, this colorless shoot is all the proof I need that white on white simply stuns. Head over to the gallery from Looking Glass Photography Studio for so much more.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/94090699 600 338]

From Zest It Up… This luminous and airy White on White inspiration shoot brings two of the most important components of beauty to the foreground: texture and form. When Leana, of Looking Glass Photography, asked us to turn her beautiful studio into a playful wonderland of lovely wedding ideas with a white and cream color scheme, we were instantly excited and transfixed by the the bright white walls and the natural light that flooded in through the windows. Blurring the lines between romantic and minimalistic, we worked with whites and muted metallics while paying close attention to the details that layered together for the overall unique feel of this bridal shoot. With keen eye, Leana captured all these details beautifully, allowing each image to gain a sense of wistfulness from the stark white walls and joy from the playfulness of the light.

When designing the tablescape, Sam and I used the muted tones of antique items such as ceiling tiles and crystal knobs in refreshingly new ways. A deeply pintucked bench upholstered in the softest beige linen is set off beautifully by chairs woven richly with a similar hued drapery, giving the setting a regal and demure effect. The Queen’s Anne’s legged dining table gains even more stature with the metallic ceiling tiles substituting in for traditional linens. The texture plays nicely with the lush florals from Clover and Branch. Arrangements made disciplined in color, but loose in form. Shades of green intermixed with stark white play-up the gentle curves of dusty miller, the structure of lilies, and the gentle nodding of white orchids. Vibrant and fresh, the arrangements bring vitality and depth to the muted color scheme. A similar artful skill was carried over to the food, as Catering by Crave plated beautiful roulades that were bright in flavor and clean in presentation as they focused on lovely bright greens and whites.

Bringing even more whimsical elegance to the tablescape, our silver wire wrapped antique crystal knobs held the gorgeous calligraphy and gold foiled placecards created by Rosey Calligraphy. Each placecard and menu was artfully designed to enhance the soft details of the overall design. Rosey Calligraphy took it a step further by designing bold geometric banners in muted metallics to compliment our hand wrapped lights with cream wool and ostrich feathers that cascaded from the mantle. A large cream and gold mirror sits atop the mantle, reflecting the quiet beauty of varying shapes of milk glass and mercury glass intermixed divinely with single blooms and ostrich feathers. The result was a touch of the fanciful for the lounge, as our bride’s playfully shared gorgeous cupcakes from Sea Breeze Cupcakes. Who wouldn’t debate biting into one of these delectable creations of beauty and sugar? Even choosing a single cupcake was difficult, as each was individually worked in varying shades of cream and intricately decorated with white chocolate script and feathers or sugar paste poppies and hydrangeas.

Our brides were dressed in dreamy gowns from A Heart’s Desire Bridal, a beautiful shop located in downtown San Luis Obispo. Each dress was exquisite with accents of Swarovski crystals, feathers, and lace detailing. Courtney, of Courtney Rossi Artistry, highlighted the drama of the dresses with the pale palate of the shoot by keeping the makeup defined but neutral. Each model’s natural beauty was expertly highlighted and took center stage. Perfectly coiffed, Courtney’s work allowed for a versatility of jeweled embellishments from A Heart’s Desire Bridal. Headbands, combs and barrettes created so much variety that they are sure to inspire ideas for every bride.

Again focusing on texture in the absence of color, we dressed the deeply ruffled fondant cake by La De Da Bake Shop with extra large sequins and adorned it with a handmade crown of mesh and rhinestones. Similar to the bridal gowns, the lush texture of the cake was highlighted by the touches of sparkle and quiet details. Intermixing Clover and Branch arrangements with a collection of unique pieces of mercury glass and milk glass, the texture and architectural detailing on the cake table and sweetheart table were accented dramatically with a topsy turvy centerpiece below the tables. Every nook and cranny was chock full of ideas! We simply loved this shoot. We want to say a huge thank you to all the vendors and the models for such a charming day! Besides, who could resist a photoshoot with a bunch of local female vendors and a glass of mimosa? Simply lovely.

Coral & Aqua Whimsical Garden Wedding

My favorite kind of couples are the ones who don’t take themselves too seriously. The couples who opt for a wedding of whimsy and color, and make their special day one epic party. It’s exactly the approach Eric and Sarah took for their Florida garden nuptials, and thanks to the fabulous Miranda Hattie Events, it went off without a hitch. SMPers, your Monday pick-me-up a la Daniel Lateulade starts here!

Whimsical

From the Groom… At first, Sarah and I had a picture of a crafty, casual, Kinfolk-style wedding, but as we went through the planning process, the “guest experience” became more and more important. Our biggest concern was that the wedding felt devoid of pretense, not stuffy or overly formal, but rather casual, simple, and easy. We wanted our guests to feel like guests, like they were getting a weekend away with friends. Everything from the decor to the experience design stemmed from this idea of ease. We hope it was successful too, making something feel easy actually takes a lot of work!

Sarah and I spent most of the cocktail hour and dinner trying to spend a few minutes with every single person that made it to our wedding, so naturally both of those stages of the evening vanished in a blink of an eye. Right around 10pm, our guests were invited from the dinner area to the terrace for deserts, coffee, and dancing, and we hadn’t had a chance to sit or eat the entire evening. As the pavilion emptied out, our table of 12 stayed behind and in the middle of the chaos that is a wedding, we had this very intimate, calming 30 minutes to eat, drink and laugh with with some of our most cherished friends.

S’mores Push-Up Pops

Is your mouth watering yet? Because mine certainly is! S’mores push-up pops – they’re now a thing. A beautiful, wonderful, delicious thing. Because if there were ever a way to get a sticky, ooey gooey, chocolate-y treat into your mouth in a mater of seconds, the push pop is it. Instant deliciousness! Serve em’ at a birthday party, around a campfire, or for breakfast on Thursday morning (we don’t judge!)

Smores Push-Up Pops
prep time
1 Hour/s
cook time
total time
1 Hour/s
Serves 8Ingredients
  • Push up pop containers (we found ours on Amazon)
  • 1 pint Ben & Jerry’s s’mores ice cream
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 4 tbs butter
  • Hershey’s chocolate bar
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Marshmallow fluff
  • Circle cookie cutters
  • 2 cooling racks
  • Kitchen blowtorch
Instructions
  1. Use a large kitchen knife to slice the carton of ice cream into 1” thick layers. Lay each layer on a cutting board. Using a circle cookie cutter that fits inside the push pop container, cut out circles of ice cream from each layer (you’ll need 2 per push pop). If the ice cream starts melting as you work, just pop the cutting board in the freezer for 15 mins until it hardens up. Set ice cream circles in the freezer until push pop assembly.
  2. Melt butter in a small bowl and mix in graham cracker crumbs.
  3. Spread a layer of mini marshmallows on a metal baking tray and use the blowtorch to brown the tops (or you can brown them under the broiler).
  4. Stack cooling racks on top of each other and place push pop containers in the top one so that they stay upright as you fill them.
  5. Fill each push pop container with a spoonful of graham cracker mixture (pressing into an even layer), then an ice cream circle. Use a wet paper towel to wipe the sides of the container to remove any ice cream trails. Then fill with a spoonful of marshmallow fluff (pressing into an even layer), then a layer of graham cracker, and another ice cream circle. Top with 2 squares of Hershey’s chocolate and a layer of browned marshmallows. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes, then enjoy!

Whimsical Manhattan Wedding

From the Bride… Tad and I wanted a wedding that was quintessentially New York, because it’s the city where we met and live. Once we saw the Bryant Park Grill in midtown Manhattan, we knew it was the right place! The wedding day was a beautiful sunny warm spring day, perfect for a rooftop ceremony and cocktail hour with sunset pictures in Bryant Park.

The style of our wedding was shabby chic. We wanted to add in a lot of personal details and styling to make it our own. We wrote our own vows, made photo booth props, built our own wedding website, served signature “Mr.” and “Mrs.” cocktails, and even blinged out the bridesmaids shoes with Swarovski stones that matched their belts. Kim from KTorres Designs did an amazing job incorporating our whimsical NYC theme through the entire wedding. We took the sketched skyline from the invitation envelope liner and had it printed on the thank you canvas bags.

For our color theme, we picked romantic peaches grounded in a sophisticated gray with accents of citron green and hot pink. Our talented florist, Kea from Sweet and Flower took this color palette and used it to create a floral ivy wall as a backdrop to our ceremony as well as organic centerpieces. She even decorated our simple white fondant chocolate cake with a few flowers which complimented the dessert bar that was filled with delectable cake pops, mini pies and macaroons made by Anne Marie Noonan of the Bryant Park Grill.

Inspired by the wedding scene in “End of Watch”, Tad and I took dance lessons from NY Wedding Dance to create a choreographed number that weaved together a classic slow dance with a hip hop ending. We surprised everyone when we busted out into a little MC Hammer “Can’t Touch This” number halfway through our wedding song “Crazy Love”. This really set the mood for what we wanted — a lighthearted wedding filled with lots of fun and laughs with our favorite people. DJ Accurit from Scratch Weddings had the versatility to provide classic pieces for the ceremony and cocktail hour, as well as modern hits to keep everyone on the dance floor during the reception. We were having so much fun that we extended the party for another hour!

One of the best decisions we made was choosing Rich of Ciro Photography. He has an incredible gift for capturing real and beautiful moments as they are happening. We are so glad that we have his work to remind us of our amazing day for the rest of our lives!

When Austin, her fiancé, called me early last month to inform me he was proposing to Ashley, I immediately asked to shoot their engagement photos. Logistics were tricky, to say the least. I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA and not only would I need to fly into Dallas, TX, but the plan would need to be carried out in complete secrecy. Austin had planned a gorgeously elaborate proposal for a Friday evening on the lake (with family and friends to celebrate there after she said yes!), so we were quickly putting things into motion for a next-day photo session that Saturday evening. Luckily, I have one amazing and talented family! We had a full wardrobe brought to the house, our aunt on hand for makeup and hair, and plenty of helping hands to arrange an unforgettable evening.

Arbor Hills provided the perfect backdrop for these two. It’s naturally beautiful, simple and completely down to earth – just like Ashley and Austin. The love and excitement radiating from them could be felt by anyone around, and as an older sister there was nothing in the world like seeing her so full of happiness. As if this all wasn’t romantic enough, we ended the evening with them lighting a wish lantern together at White Rock Lake – near the spot of their very first date some time ago. Needless to say, this is one evening none of us are likely to ever forget.

DIY Farm Wedding

This is the type of wedding where rustic meets DIY and, let me tell you lovelies, it’s awesome.  Think a breathtaking farm setting, hay bale seating and perfectly crafted details with just a touch of vintage styling.  All together, it makes for one seriously stunning wedding.  See every beautiful + heartwarming moment captured by Amelia Claire Fine Art Photography right here.

From Amelia Claire Fine Art Photography… Ashleigh and Michael’s wedding contained so much loveliness. It was located on Michael’s father’s farm in Hyden, Western Australia. The sun was out, shining golden on the beautiful long grass, what more could we have asked for.

The whole day was a mix of DIY loveliness and gorgeous sophistication. The ceremony was held in the exact spot Michael proposed, on a beautiful rock overlooking the countryside. The reception was held in the barn and everything including all the lighting, old bottles and machinery strung up all over the walls and the wonderful old painted doors were made by the groom himself. What an absolutely stunning day in every way possible.

Elegant Augusta Wedding

Happy Friday darling SMPers! Before you head off into the beautiful weekend ahead, we’ve got a pretty little seafoam and blush number from Brita Photography that will have your heart a-racing. Layered with flowy bridesmaids dresses, the cutest bubbly favors bow-tied with polka dot straws and blooming perfection, I’ll bet my bottom dollar that this gallery will have you grinning ear to ear.

From Brita PhotographyWe are thrilled to share this elegant and sweet wedding in Augusta with you. It’s not just because Cheney and Adam’s wedding was stunning, but also because they are 2 of the sweetest and kindest people you’ll ever meet! When we first photographed Cheney and Adam during their engagement session in South Carolina, I knew we’d become friends! We hung out afterwards, enjoyed a few drinks, and chatted for a while! I even learned what chow chow sauce was…thanks to Adam! And when we arrived to start shooting on their wedding day, it truly felt like we were hanging out with our friends. It was so fun! All of the girls were in the beautiful Penthouse suite of the Partridge Inn. When I arrived, they were were wearing the cutest shortie set by Plum Pretty Sugar. We scheduled Cheney and Adam’s first look to be at the Old Medical College and it was perfect: The weather, the location, and the love between Adam and Cheney. After saying “I do,” they danced and celebrated all night long at the Old Medical College. And, their getaway car was a golf cart! It was such a great time!

Backyard Garden Wedding in Northern California

From the Valentinos to the perfect ballerina bun, this Bride has mad style and it rings true for her wedding day as well. It’s an affair wrapped in sunshine and a gorgeous backyard setting ripe with bright blooms by Molly Ryan Floral and the kind of photographs we could literally stare at all day long. See all those gems and more captured by Laura Gordon Photography right here.

From The Bride…I always say “it all started” with the bright indigo J. Crew sweater that Bronzon wore on an auspicious day in May 2010 because it caught my eye from a mile away. We met during the summer before our last year of college and started dating almost immediately. As those days of languor ended, we parted ways to finish college – Bronzon at UC Berkeley and I at University of Southern California. Even during the first months of long-distance dating, our lives moved in serendipitous lock step, which made it so much easier for us (and our love) to grow and mature together. Long story short, we both found jobs in the Bay Area (that even started on the same day). Then, the very same thing happened with our next jobs! After some time of both living and working in the heart of downtown San Francisco, in October 2013, we got engaged during a horseback ride on a sunny day in the thick of the Marin woodlands.

A May 3, 2014 wedding date put us on a 6-month timeline, so the planning process quickly commenced. I discovered that the modern bride’s challenge is comprised largely of the limitless options she has to choose from. One choice that was easy to make for both of us, from the beginning, was the venue – Bronzon’s parents’ home. The Tudor–style house in Bronzon’s hometown of Chico, California, is nestled among lush greenery (meticulously groomed for the wedding by my father–in–law, who also strung lights, set up fountains, and handcrafted a tree swing, a wood block for our cake, and welcome banners for us), oak and willow trees, and best of all, a little lake with a dock – the perfect place to exchange our vows. Bronzon is the third of four siblings, the first two of whom had already been married at the house, but in different locations around the property; so, we were excited to follow this privilege of a family tradition.

The very first decision I made was that photography and videography would be priorities. I wanted to work with a fine art photographer who could express the natural beauty of our garden-like setting as well as direct romantic, editorial-style portraiture; as such, Laura Gordon was one of the first vendors we selected. Despite the fact that we did not meet until our engagement shoot days before our wedding, when she flew out from Virginia, her raw talent was evident and her infectious personality put us at ease immediately. From then on, it was like having an old friend as our photographer. Damon and Amy from Frontside Films were a dynamic duo of a husband-and-wife team whose sweet personalities and ability to work unobtrusively aligned well with our intimate family-only wedding. I fell in love with their ability to express the feeling of love through dreamy imagery.

Discovering and working with the most talented, caring, and competent vendors was one of the most rewarding components of planning the wedding, and we would emphatically recommend every single one of the vendors that are listed.

Our wedding aesthetic evolved naturally from the physical landscape and the spring flora that was to be in season. Bronzon and I are different in many ways but share an appreciation for that which is classic, and simple yet elegant. I was able to infuse my penchant for a little bit of luxe by adding in gold accents (and gemstones!) where I could. Our palette developed into an ethereal commingling of blush pink and rich, layered neutrals such as ivory and champagne. Two accent colors – the natural blue-green of dusty miller and gold from various decorative pieces – added interest. One decision I made early on was to keep the décor simple by anchoring it with the floral design. Molly was a fantastic partner and worked with me to create a vision that involved lots of the palest peonies, ranunculus, garden roses, cymbidium orchids, and importantly, greenery, for balance and texture.

Kara, my sister-in-law, was also my day-of coordinator, artist, and calligrapher – the individual responsible for all of the beautiful directional and table signage you see, including the dinner menu on the vintage mirror from the Leen’s home. Kara had this amazing ability take one look at my inspiration boards and make them come alive in a completely unique way. The watercolor style and “juicy” modern script that is repeated throughout the signage is wholly hers, and I could not have loved it any more!

Many of us would agree that mothers have a lifelong passion for nourishing us. Our mothers were no exception. When I mentioned to my mom that Bronzon and I wanted to serve a signature drink that reflected our combined tastes – a strawberry mojito mocktail – she promptly set up something like a chemistry lab in her kitchen and laboriously perfected the recipe with the help of my taste-testing dad in between the many weekly hour-and-a-half-long drives my dad and mom made to San Francisco for my dress fittings. My mother-in-law and legend of a baker, catered to every one of our dessert requests, which included not just homemade red velvet cake (complete with edible gold leaf detail) but also berry tarts, pecan tarts, and Bronzon’s childhood favorite – strawberry rollup. For our guest favors, she made miniature strawberry jams.

Admittedly, when I first started learning about planning my own wedding, I didn’t understand the prolific use of the phrase “labor of love.” Now, I do. I am moved to tears when I think of the role that each of our mothers, fathers, and siblings played to make our dream wedding possible. I cherish those simple moments that brought our families closer, like when our dads conducted a rigorous sweep of the lawn together and how my mom, mother-in-law, and sisters-in-law taught themselves and each other how to fold napkins a certain way, all on the morning of the big day. I am grateful to be spending the rest of my life with the best man I know, but I am also supremely grateful to have gained another set of devoted parents and a whole crew of siblings who I can love as my own. The most surprising thing that wedding planning accomplished was to play such a big role in redefining family, as I knew it.

Italian-Inspired Baby Shower at Villa Woodbine

You simply can’t ask an event planner to keep her hands off her own special occasion, and that’s perfectly all right with us- because the result is a baby shower from JCG Events so beautiful it could rival any wedding! The Masis gathered inspiration from their trip to Tuscany and designed the shower around a luscious Italian brunch. With stunning photos from Katie Lopez, you’ll want to pore over every detail of this drool-worthy baby shower!

From Jessica Masi of JCG Events: I know it’s unconventional to plan your own baby shower but when you are a planner yourself and in the industry you can’t help but have a style and vision for what you want. This was an event close to my heart because I wanted to make sure to celebrate the arrival of our baby girl, and this next phase in our lives, with our closest family and friends.

Lucky for me, my husband is also a planner, we’re co-owners of JCG Events. As I was beginning the planning process he was secretly working on securing my favorite venue in Miami, Villa Woodbine. He wanted to surprise me with everything but soon had to reveal the details because I was busy starting the planning process as well, and it wouldn’t be too long before we would have two showers planned.

Villa Woodbine was the perfect setting for our baby shower. We wanted to create an Italian themed shower to go with the villa setting but at the same time keep the theme subtle and well thought out. It all started with the invitations we designed through Smock, an invitation line we carry. We selected a whimsical font in a taupe letterpress ink and a baby carriage motif and added a pop of color with a neon pink edging. For the calligraphy we chose a matching hot pink ink and collected an array of vintage postage stamps including an Audrey Hebpurn stamp to reference the name we had selected for our baby girl.

The flower table design was a garden inspired design with a vintage collection of vases with bright pink bungavillia, garden roses and peonies with orange touches, over a custom lace table runner. Ines Naftali truly captured our vision and inspiration for the floral design and created a magical setting. The farmhouse tables and collection of white vintage chairs from Unearthed Vintage completed the entire look. On the fireplace mantle behind where “mommy” and “daddy” were sitting, we had two photos of when Michael and I were of similar age about 6 months old. In between the two photos was a small frame in the middle with a pink question mark. In the foyer there were vintage lounge vignettes for everyone to have an area to lounge before and after our brunch.

The brunch menu was inspired by an Italian breakfast we had every morning during while we were in Tuscany for a wedding we were planning last year. The cake was Michael’s favorite flavor- banana cake with salted caramel filling. The bar consisted of a signature drink we named the “Bambina Bellini” which was a take on a traditional venetian cocktail- prosecco, peach nectar and St. Germain. There was also mimosas and Masi white wine available garnished with fresh fruit. After brunch guests mingled in the courtyard where we had a gelato cart with three delicious flavors- pistachio, cappuccino with toffee bites and sweet pear with ginger.

We had a table with a guest book where guests were able to share their wishes and hopes for Audrey, which will be a nice keepsake for her to read later on in life. We also created a station where guests were able to make custom headbands for our baby girl and had stamped tags so they would be able to write their names so Audrey would know who made them. We were able to enjoy our baby shower thoroughly and it was really thanks to this amazing team of vendors that we are lucky to call friends as well.
