Sophisticated Wedding At McCormick Ranch Golf Club

Envisioning a wedding that’s sophisticated while still maintaining a laid-back feel? You’ll want to keep scrolling for this one. There’s the bridesmaids open-back BCBG dresses, beautiful blooms from Designs by Jeremiah, and the Bride’s stunning Allure gown, and of course, dancing the night away to JJ’s Band.  Photo duo Amy & Jordan captured some stunning moments from the day. See more here!

From Amy & Jordan PhotographyErika and Phillip’s gorgeous blush and blue McCormick Ranch wedding in Scottsdale, Arizona was the perfect infusion of their unique Jewish heritage and their beautiful, yet laid-back style. The guys rocked grey suits, matching Vans and blue accents and, which perfectly complimented the blush lace bridesmaid dresses. Their chuppah was breathtaking, laced with stunning florals and kissed with succulents, which provided the perfect home for Phillip’s great-grandfather’s prayer shawl, which was strung on the top of the chuppah. As Phillip stomped on the glass and they became husband and wife, they celebrated the rest of the night away in a room full of burlap details and plenty of sweet treats. It was a beautiful day filled with laughter and love, and we were so honored to capture it!

Elegant Chaviano Couture Gown Shoot

Wedding gowns are a work of art to me. Intricate and exquisite, they are one of the most important pieces of clothing you’ll ever wear. So when we had the opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at how Chaviano Couture brings their visions to life, we obviously jumped. Captured beautifully by Exquisitrie By Kelly Sauer, this gallery is sure to leave you in awe.

From Exquisitrie By Kelly Sauer….Have you ever wondered about the process that goes into making the loveliness that comes together for a wedding dress? Chaviano Couture wanted to give you a look at the care she puts into the process of creating custom wedding gowns for its brides, from the simple muslin beginnings to the small details to the stunning wedding day results.

This shoot, titled “Sew In Love” before it ever came into being, was a dream that Annette Thurmon and Carlee Sizemore had to tell the story of a custom wedding dress from behind the scenes. Their vision brought a fantastic creative team together last August to capture their inspiration for their brides. The shoot brought lace and vintage and tulle together with Carlee’s exquisite styling, Amy Osaba’s fantastic florals, and an amazing European vibe at the private residence that hosted the shoot. The shoot carries a bit of whimsy, a bit of fun, a dash of drama, and a whole lot of unparallelled pretty for the bride who is looking for inspiration for her own wedding.

Rustic Autumn Wedding at The Yellow House

I think we can all agree that autumn in Vermont is unequivocally beautiful, right? Basically, the perfect backdrop for perfectly rustic, laid-back New England nuptials. Think warm hued flowers from Ellen Synder Design, maple cupcakes from Mix Cupcakerie, family farms, and a bottle of Harpoon or Long Trail in hand. Christian Arthur Photography was there to capture the day. See it all here!

From the Bride… Our wedding was set on the property of Tyson’s great aunt’s home adjacent to Billings Farm and Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, VT, four generations of his family have called this town home (and the his parents were married on the property affectionately called “The Yellow House” in 1983). Fiddleheads, button stems, browns and tans highlighted by the beautiful golden and orange hues of Vermont foliage all came together for our wedding day in September. It was Vermont in every way from the mason jars to the fall colors and Harpoon and Long Trail ales — even one of the cupcakes was maple flavored.

The ceremony was outside in the gardens surrounded by a white picket fence under a lovely archway. Everyone stood around with a drink in hand to watch (to keep it fun and casual). We also danced/walked in together to Mmmm Bop, a favorite song of ours. The cocktail hour with lawn games (and Colgate baggo boards representing our alma mater!) was also outside on the banks of the Ottauquechee River and the stations-style dinner was served under a tent. We also wanted to represent our casual style and therefore, had a cocktail-style stations dinner (no assigned seating, various tables of different sizes and configurations spread amongst the tent) so we could maximize the socializing, noshing, drinking and dancing, and spend more time hanging out with the people we care about! It was great fun and was definitely an inspiration for us!

The location was an easy choice with the Seely family history surrounding us and beautiful customizable location. We loved the walkable community (especially as a PhD candidate in planning and public policy) and really wanted everyone to walk as many places as possible throughout the weekend, so it made Woodstock a great fit (people walked to the rehearsal, wedding, after party, golf, hotels). We also love the charming town near where we lived together after college at Colgate and near our graduate school of Dartmouth. In addition to Tyson’s parents, several of Tyson’s aunts and uncles have also been married there along with cousins, so the property has many memories. We also wanted to be married in a state where we, our friends, and our family, are all afforded the same rights to marry whomever we choose.

The bridesmaids wore brown dresses of their own choosing and the groomsmen wore different brown ties, navy blazers and khakis (also of their own choosing) to give the look a cohesive but not cookie-cutter feel. The florals had button stems and faux fiddleheads my sister made which were unique, funky, and fun and the florist did an incredible job working them into her design. The buttons and fiddleheads are now in a vase in our home. They complimented the hand-made card box my mother made with burlap and lace. The centerpieces, also made by sister, were sticks tied with gems in vases of water with floating candles on top and gave a rustic Vermont feel in addition to beautiful additional light in and around the tent. We served drinks from mason jars to give the event a rustic vibe and the linens were beige to allow the beautiful foliage to stand out. The cupcakes and stations were set on rustic pieces of wood and birch logs to add to the feel. Wooden handmade signs (by Tyson) were placed around the property to direct people. The platform we got married on was made from Advantech Wood (a JM Huber product, of which Tyson is a 5th generation family member of the private owned-family company) and was handmade by Tyson’s dad with the words “Lifetime Guarantee” from the wood left unpainted for us to stand on. We used “I do” and “me too” forks and wore “just married” sunglasses after the ceremony and in Colgate University tradition, the last song of the night was “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra.

Classic Candlelit Lake Forest Wedding

Give me a classic soiree doused in blush pink and you’ll have one happy wedding blogger on your hands. Said wedding? This candlelit beauty from Heather Cook Elliott. With so many family legacies layered in, including the Bride sewing pieces of family members’ wedding dresses into her own and wearing her Groom’s Grandmother’s Tiffany earrings, this gallery is overflowing with traditional elegance at it’s best.

From Heather Cook ElliottOh where to start. As I look back on Katelyn and John’s wedding day I am flooded with adjectives – elegant, romantic, classic, traditional, sweet, lovely – and yet none of them seems quite enough. Their wedding day was the complete, real deal package, the kind of wedding day that manages to be perfectly beautiful but feels easy, wonderfully traditional but still fun. It starts with Lake Forest, a little seemingly magical place 30 miles north of Chicago where small town luxuries include great beaches, boutique shopping and an elegant family oriented Club called Onwentsia. With majestic willows on its golf course and century old brick architecture to boast of, Onwentsia is the place where John’s parents celebrated their wedding and where John played as a kid. Its close to his family home and close to his heart, and now its close to Katelyn’s too.

So many family details were incorporated into the day it was easy to see that though it all came together as uber-stylish and very “pinnable”, their day was honestly about celebrating their family legacies. John wore his grandfather’s tux studs, Katie his grandmother’s Tiffany earrings; Katie sewed fabric from family wedding dresses embroidered with wedding dates into her own dress and she wore a now-heirloom veil that other women in her family have worn. They said I Do at John’s family church and celebrated at Onwentsia, riding to and fro in a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan restored by Katie’s late Grandpa Robert as a replica of his first car. Katie’s dad hauled the burgundy stunner from her hometown in Indiana and all the men in her family decorated “Old Bob” on the day of the wedding, a stunning tribute to tradition and family that I adored. The pictures say more than my words can ever hope to, so without further ado, enjoy a peek into Katelyn’s & John’s stunningly beautiful wedding day.

English Manor Wedding Inspiration

At first glance, this shoot might look like your typical English garden inspiration. But take a closer look and you’ll see an east-meets-west approach with a subtle Asian flair. Euphoric FlowersPocketful of DreamsCakes By Krishanthi along with a whole team of talent crafted up the pretty and Weddings By Nicola and Glen photographed the gallery you simply can’t afford to miss.

From Weddings By Nicola and GlenWe recently photographed a wedding inspiration shoot at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, one of the most famous luxury hotels in Britain renown for its 2 Michelin star food and idyllic countryside setting. The overall concept was Fusion – Where East Meets West and was designed, styled and co-ordinated by Vicki & Michelle of event design house Pocketful of Dreams.

From Michelle of Pocketful of Dreams… Inspired by the stunning Japanese Tea Gardens at the venue, we worked from a back story of a stylish British couple who had been heavily influenced by their travels to the Orient and set out to create a look that had an elegant feel with stylish and thoughtful touches across all the décor and details, subtly and creatively portraying that Far East influence. We worked with a rich, warm colour palette of burgundy, wine, soft pinks and peach with a grounding base of oyster silk, all offset by plenty of leafy greens. Brass and antique gold tones were then added to establish a luxe/old world feel that emulated a refined luxury.

Bohemian Garden Party

A hint of whimsy, a little spice, and a table full of the most delicious eats you ever did see. This bohemian inspired garden party is hitting the mark in all the right places. Jenni Kayne, popular fashion designer, teamed up with Eye Swoon and the results are loveliness embodied. With photos from Yayo Ahumanda, there’s a whole gallery that’s simply overloaded with more!

Designer and blogger, Jenni Kayne, came together with Eye Swoon’s Athena Calderone to create the perfect late-Spring Garden Party. The menu and decor combined to create the perfect event and design elements used from One King’s Lane provided incredible detail and overall fantastic results.

Folding tables were draped with a custom Rachel Craven flax linen tablecloth with gold stitching down the center, accented with a yellow washed linen tablecloth from Terrain on top. Bentwood chairs with white painted feet from Yeah! Rentals surrounded each table.

Variopinte enamel plates and bowls in white and mint and Jenni’s favorite mismatched antique flatware graced the table Liberty Print napkins, that we made using the fabric from the Jenni Kayne Pre-Fall Collection, added the perfect floral element.

One Kings Lane elements were also used on the table, including Villeroy & Boch glassware and Pinched Glass Decanters. Stemless Spanish wine glasses from Jenni Kayne Home in Montecito was always used.

On the serving table, several terracotta water pitchers from Bitters Co., and two rustic Best Before Baskets, to hold the silverware, were displayed.

Donned with floral wristlets, the guest list included Jessica de Ruiter, Lawren Howell, Liseanne Frankfurt, Nicole Simone, Kristen Caissie, Barrett Prendergast, and Shiva Rose, who’s calm and quiet backyard created the perfect setting for the luncheon.

Floral arrangements were created by Kristen of Moon Canyon Design, who made perfectly-themed centerpieces complete with wild blueberry, cafe au lait dahlias, white ball dahlias, astilbe, scabiosa, chocolate cosmos, sunflowers, blushing bride protea, peonies, and hosta leaves, with a low stone compote for the vessel.

Peonies, astilbe, and dahlias were displayed on the serving table inside vintage glass Belgian jars and on the serving table, placed bundles of variegated hydrangea in a Wicker Pool Basket from One Kings Lane.

The meal, by Barrett from Valleybrink Road contained perfectly seasonal elements including Farmers Market Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette, savory Avocado Toast with Watermelon Radish and Chive, and for dessert, a scrumptious Nectarine, Peach, and Blueberry Crisp.

Romantic Hudson Valley Wedding

This gorgeous day hits all of my wedding sweet spots.  The perfect combo of laid-back and totally elegant, it’s a breathtaking Hudson Valley setting mix and mingling with lush florals from Pola Rebisz, crazy gorgeous colors and an 80’s cover band dance party.  Did someone say Journey?  Yes, please.  See it all captured beautifully by Raquel Reis in the full gallery.

From The Bride… As long-time city residents (I’m from NYC and Mat’s from London), we wanted to venture outside our usual stomping grounds for our wedding celebration. The majestic setting of Onteora Mountain House was exactly what we were looking for — not too far to travel for our NY area friends and family, but distinctly non-urban and, frankly, breathtaking. It was more of a trek for our UK based guests, but we knew that they would appreciate having an excuse to get off the beaten tourist track to experience the natural beauty of the Catskills.

We wanted the ceremony to express our personalities, so we didn’t pay too much attention to the conventions of traditional wedding ceremonies. I walked down the aisle to an 80’s classic — Yaz’s “Only You”. One of Mat’s oldest friends officiated (so there was lots of humor), and Mat’s sister sang Elton John’s “Your Song”, accompanied by my brother on keyboard.

The weather held out long enough for our ceremony and cocktail hour to take place outdoors, but drizzle set in shortly after we moved into the rustic pavilion for our party, which — if anything — made the warmth of the barn-like interior even cozier and more welcoming. We partied like it was 1999 to an 80’s cover band, closing out the night with a group-rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin'”. It was an amazing night.

DIY Elements… A friend of ours helped us design our wedding invitations, which we letterpressed ourselves at The Arm in Brooklyn. I also (painstakingly!) handmade the escort cards by embossing our guests’ names on different colored paint chips, and packaged our party favors in mini-brown paper bags.

Our Favorite Furry Friends

You know what every Thursday evening needs?  A little dose of adorable.  Any by “a little dose,” I mean a full-fledged attack of cuteness, courtesy of some of our favorite furry friends from weddings past.  Think dapper pups in bow ties, cuddly kittens and horses dressed to perfection (seriously).  It’s a smile-inducing fur fest and the heartwarming begins in one, two, three…

DIY Wedding in Sydney Harbor

My favorite part of these weddings are the back-stories. Like this pair who, in a very poignant move, decided to marry in the same church as the Bride’s parents and even snapped a photo in the place her father proposed to her mother. Take all that sentimental weight, add your closest friends and family and you have yourself one heartfelt affair. Just take a look at Matthew Land’s photos of the day!

From Matthew Land StudiosA beautiful, family-centered wedding at a historic church above Sydney Harbor. Family set up the tent, prepared the church, performed live music and the ceremony while friends stepped in helping with flowers (Merrymount, credited for flowers is a bridesmaid), center pieces and hair & makeup. Nicky and Mike were married at the same beautiful church as her parents were and even took photos at Camp Cove Beach where her father had proposed. As a Seattle wedding photographer, flying to Sydney to escape our winter for a few weeks in their summer was perfect. Nicky and Mike are the perfect couple and I think these photos reflect a little bit of that. Their wedding was perfect even with the unforeseen hiccup when the limo carrying the bridal party through the Sydney Harbor Tunnel got a flat a half hour before the reception — underground!

Romantic Tuscan Bridal Inspiration

Darlings, Brumley & Wells is bringing us so much pretty today that it hurts. When they sent over their recent shoot with SIBO Designs breathtaking veils and hairpieces, I literally gasped. It’s that gorg. Paired with the dreamiest dress designs from Patrick Casey and set on the awe-inspiring streets of Tuscany, I want to live in this gallery forever.

From Brumley & WellsWe photographed this editorial collection for SIBO designs in Tuscany Italy to showcase her 2014 collection. We were able to secure the perfect venues, one in an abandoned abbey near Sienna, and the other at a prominent winery in Chianti. It was such a dream, and we couldn’t have sake for a better team of professionals working alongside us to create such a gorgeous collection.

Something Gold PhotographyI was thrilled when Katie and Taylor of Ever Something Event Styling were on board to collaborate on this shoot; their style is beautiful, precise and unique. We knew we wanted to do something romantic and feminine, and after discussing a few options for settings and style, we concluded that a natural, yet beautiful elopement would suit or desires perfectly

When we arrived to scope out the venue, my breath was taken away when I looked over the edge of the rooftop at the vast openness that lay before us. We loved this location because it seemed not to define a specific place, but to let the imagination decide the couple’s elopement destination.

Katie and Taylor brought our vision to life, creating the scene for an intimate and emotional elopement. I was honored when other amazing vendors came on board to help execute this shoot. From the beautiful furniture by Mood Party Rentals to the gorgeous invitations by Marisa Woolever, this shoot became an inspiring collaboration and was a joy to photograph!

Ever Something ….We started with the simplicity of overflowing eucalyptus and interesting stones. Paired with the white sweet peas and lavender the Eucalyptus created a natural theme to our table-scape. The linen runner was used to soften the bold look of the farmhouse table. We used textured plates with a polka dot napkin, mismatched silverware, and stunning glassware. The bridal bouquet was wild and unruly featuring a large airplant, anemones, dahlias, ranunculus, sweet peas, and sprigs of lavender tied together with velvet ribbon. The dress was the perfect color and texture next to her flowers and bold necklace. The dessert table made an elegant statement next to the simple concrete surrounding which held a variety of desserts such as berry pie, cream puffs, and cupcakes. We used glass bottles of all sizes holding single stems, a large potted succulent, and a glass box of stones to style. All of these elements combined created such a soft and elegant gathering for the bride and groom and their close friends.

Sunny Al Fresco Wedding in Ojai

There are wedding tents and then there are stunning masterpieces of drapery under which the prettiest al fresco weddings occur. This Ojai affair photographed by Michael Costa most certainly falls under the latter. And it comes baring floral gifts by Flowerwild and the most elegant details crafted by Jill La Fleur. Have a look at the full gallery and tell me you haven’t seen a more gorgeous tent. Am I right?

From The Bride…My only requirement when looking for venues for our wedding was that I wanted to be able to dance under the stars. After visiting the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa I realized this was the place I pictured in my dreams. After our first site visit, our search for a wedding venue was over. We never anticipated that we would only visit one wedding site and call it a day, but that is what happened. What really captured our hearts was the beauty and tranquility of the grounds. It truly was the perfect place for our dream wedding. The wedding was on a beautiful, sunny day in October 2012. After exchanging vows under the magical canopy of a 100-year-old Oak Tree, our guests were whisked off to the herb garden where they sipped on the Inn’s signature drink, the Pink Moment, and nibbled on an assortment of appetizers. After a short hour had passed, our guests were escorted through the garden down to lawn where we met them for an unforgettable night of dinner, dancing, and cake accompanied by a sundae bar. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Everything had fallen into place perfectly. My dream had become a reality. The stars were out and our hearts were full…. what a night it was. Miller and I had known each other for quite some time before we had actually started dating. We both attended Newport Harbor High School and ran in the same group, but we never thought we would end up together. After high school, Miller left for college at the University of Colorado Boulder, and I went off to San Francisco State. Six years later, we unexpectedly reconnected at a mutual friend’s wedding in Mexico. After meeting at the beach bar on the first day, we were inseparable. That was it for us! Five years later we tied the knot and had our dreamy wedding at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. I got to dance under the stars and marry the man of my dreams, what a lucky girl I am. Today we still live in Newport Beach. Miller is Vice President at Farmers and Merchants Bank and I am a stay at home mom with our beautiful 3-month-old daughter, Hannah. Life is good for the Akins Family!

Lake Como Mini Guide

It has officially been 3 months, 1 week and 2 days since my last trip – not that I’m counting. And though that is basically nothing in the grand scheme of things, it feels like eons for a travel nut like myself. So putting together this Lake Como mini-guide with Claire Graham has been a massive tease! It certainly doesn’t help when the place is this dreamy. So let’s pretend we’re all there alongside her.

WHERE TO EAT: Trafforia San Ciacomo. A small restaurant that we found in the back streets, it had amazing service and delicious food. Arrive there early though as it gets very busy with people happy to queue for a table!
WHAT TO EAT: Lets face it, what isn’t good to eat in Italy!? So it goes without saying – any pasta dish, pizza, fish and one of my favourites a caprese salad.
MUST SEE: There really is lots to see, so I would recommend getting a boat pass and jumping from one town to another!
WHERE TO STAY: We stayed at the amazing 5 star Grand Hotel Villa Servelloni in Bellagio. The service was outstanding and the staff were so friendly. The hotel sits on the lake so along with its pretty gardens it offers beautiful views.
WHAT TO WEAR: We mostly dressed smart/casual day and evening. It gets very hot though, so make sure you pack your shorts, skirt or dress!
MUSN’T MISS: You can book a boat journey from Bellagio to Como, its a two hour journey but you get to see all the pretty towns along Lake Como. Alternatively you could stay in Bellagio and visit the Giardini Di Villa Melzi. It has beautiful gardens, botanical path and lots of historical and interesting sculptures.

New England Nautical meets West Coast Whimsical Inspiration

What would summer be without a great beach party or, in this instance, a pretty seaside wedding? Crafted by The Little ThingsSweet Annie Floral Design, and imagery by Ruth Eileen, this inspiration pulls the essence of the West Coast and the East Coast and blends them into a nautical meets whimsical affair by the sea. It’s a land where lobsta dinners and floral laden bicycles go hand in hand.

From Ruth Eileen PhotographyThe theme for this shoot was “New England Nautical meets West Coast Whimsical,” and the idea behind it was to take a classic New England fete and infuse it with some west coast flair! We envisioned our couple eloping and celebrating with a simple but stellar reception a deux, one that they could pull off themselves without too much effort. We began by brainstorming which New England elements we’d include: a lobster bake, nautical rope, the groom in a preppy bowtie, oysters and anchors, and some classic New England florals: coral charm peonies, anemones, and hydrangea. Then, we decided on our West Coast elements: a bohemian-style pallet table, air plants, ferns, and (of course!) a custom beach cruiser! With the vision in mind and design plan in place, we assembled an amazing team of collaborators who really took to the vision and brought this shoot to life! Anna and Caitlin from Paper Moss designed custom menus, elopement announcements, and drink stirrers to commemorate the day. Bethany and Sean from Shindig events provided individual lobster bake pots (and New England clam chowder served in mini mason jars!), Katie from Sweet Annie Floral Design created the stunning bouquet and centerpiece, and stuffed the groom’s pocket with looser, fresh florals for a fun twist on a boutonniere. Shara from Chickadee Hill Cakes designed the beautiful cakes, and our bride Shayna, in her stunning BHLDN gown, was made beautiful by Tara ad TADA Makeup and outfitted with a nautical Porcelain and Stone handmade porcelain and gold chain-link necklace. Laura from Laura Hooper Calligraphy so beautifully penned this JFK quote onto our piece of navy blue Irish linen: “All of us have, in our veins, the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean and therefore, we all have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or watch it, we are going back from whence we came.” Our couple rode off into the sunset on their beach cruiser that Alexis from The Little Things scooped off of Craigslist and customized in white and gold for the shoot. Alexis and Katie wired florals to the cruiser’s spokes (and learned a lesson in patience along the way!), and Katie filled the basket to the brim with the most beautiful flowers. Ruthie from Ruth Eileen Photography captured the day perfectly, and on film, to boot!

From Avec L’amour Photography… Nestled in the hills of Los Altos, California are fields of lush greenery and a landmark filled with history and education. This place is called Hidden Villa. It’s enough to be an isolated wilderness with farm life but not isolated enough to be far away from civilian life. I had the honor of coordinating this “Pretty in Pink” shoot of which was the collaboration of several talented souls. As wedding connoisseurs, we were inspired by the freshness of spring blossoms and its beauty of new life. As the design process took place, it unraveled into something quite breathtaking.

As the 5pm sunlight peeked through the branches, it set the perfect lighting for our evening shoot. Our bride was dressed in Clare La Faye; we couldn’t have picked a more perfect setting for this beautiful gown. Her designs represent our favorite old Hollywood glamour with the softest edge one can imagine. As she stood in the olive orchard, her hand swiftly moved past the floral arrangements that were strategically placed on the table. Tea time and strawberry macarons were on the menu. The design was magnificent. The florals, the ribbons blowing in the warm breeze, and the sweet smell of salted caramelized treats from Sweet Events softened the rustic hardware.

As Avec L’amour snapped away, we could hear the roosters bellowing their cluck; we all couldn’t help but be captivated at how perfect everything was. As the evening wore on, we were sure that something delightful and charming was just created. This is exactly what happens when you have the right minds working together to build a picturesque moment. Some moments you take right in, and that is what happened with “Pretty in Pink”.

From Catherine Abegg… Sean & Tracy met in Seattle about twelve years ago, and have since traveled the globe together before settling down in London…but it seemed natural to have their wedding ceremony in the city where they met surrounded by old friends, new friends, international friends, family from close & family from far.

They essentially celebrated every day that they were in town, including a gay bar hop through Capitol Hill, a glamorously casual rehearsal dinner at Escala in downtown Seattle, and then the main event at Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park, that was absolutely posh & downright fabulous. This being the first year that Washingtonians could officially be married in our state, besides all of the glitz & glam of this wedding, there was so much love & just so much celebration that you could feel it pulsing all weekend long.

Korean Paebaek Ceremony In The Canadian Rockies

The mountains you’re about to see don’t look real, but I promise they are! (See: Emerald Lake Lodge) To match the scenery, every detail is equally vivid and stunning from the yellow bridesmaid dresses the the bold bouquets from Willow Flower Company. Not mention, the Paebaek Ceremony looks beautiful, fun, and moving to boot. Just take a look at Orange Girl’s photographs of the day!

From the Bride and Groom… The inspiration for our wedding was our lifestyle. We’re both fairly outdoorsy and adventurous, and we love the mountains. We like to hike, rock climb, ski, snowboard, etc, and in many ways our relationship developed and matured while we enjoyed these activities together. When we found the Emerald Lake Lodge in Field, BC we knew we had the right venue. It provided a beautiful natural backdrop, easy access to a variety of outdoor activities… plus the rustic charm and touch of refinement we wanted for the event.

Autumn’s favorite memory was a minor wardrobe malfunction as she rounded the corner to walk down the aisle. The emotions started to build as soon as she saw her parents, and as she took her Dad’s arm to walk down the aisle she could already feel her eyes starting to well up. When she turned the corner, her train (or as she called it, her tail) got caught on the fence at the edge of the patio. The snag stopped her dead in her tracks, and she couldn’t help but smile. The incident helped ease her emotions, and the rest of the ceremony was full of big smiles and happy tears.

Advice for those planning a wedding now:
Wedding planning can be a difficult and stressful process. Try to remember that you’re both going through a lot, and be supportive of each other along the way. Take a deep breath every now-and-then, give each other a hug, and thank each other for everything the other has accomplished. Hearing that your husband/wife-to-be appreciates what you’re doing makes it all worth while. When the planning is over and the big day comes, enjoy the moment and savor the memories. Everything may not go perfectly according to plan, but most guests won’t even notice, and the little hiccups along the way will provide you with great memories inside jokes for years to come.

From the photographer… Autumn and Derrick traveled from Seoul Korea to Yoho National Park in Canada for their destination mountain wedding. They included a Paebaek (Korean Tea) Ceremony after becoming husband and wife. The elders of the family were invited to sit. The bride and groom bowed to the elders, poured them a drink, and listened to their marital advice. I found the advice from the elders to be a moving part of the ceremony, what a lovely way to start your married life. The elders would then toss dates into a piece of fabric held up by the bride and groom to symbolize how many children they hoped the newlyweds would have. The bride and groom would then try to deflect some of the dates tossed to a number closer to the number of children they actually hoped to have. This was a particularly funny part of the ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony the groom gave piggybacks to his new wife and his mother-in-law symbolizing the grooms intention to carry/support his new wife and family.
