20 Infused Water “Recipes”

Confession: I have an aversion to water. Truth: sometimes I’ll accidentally go for days without having a single sip until I wake up one morning with a raging headache. It’s terrible! But in the last few months I’ve found a tried and true solution: fancy water. I literally throw whatever delicious goods I have lurking around my fridge into said water and before I know it I’m four glasses in. Revolutionary! Here are some of my favourite concoctions:

From Viera PhotographicsThe video from this amazing wedding: http://www.stylemepretty.com/little-black-book-blog/2014/04/11/seaside-gualala-arts-center-wedding/

On a sunny afternoon in September, Adriana walked out on the arm of her father towards the man she loved standing on the edge of a bluff where they both professed their simple honest love to one another. “There is no I without you,” claimed Ro as he looked into Adriana’s eyes.

Set in a grove a redwoods, the Gualala Arts Center served the perfect backdrop for guests to admire the beauty of this special place these two chose to get married. The rehearsal dinner was also held at the same location the previous night – a much more causal affair. http://www.vieraphotographics.com/adriana-and-ros-rehearsal-dinner/

From the beginning, the pair were destined to meet one day having been born in the same hospital just one month apart. Fate eventually brought this pair together only to test the waters a few months after their union with a cancer diagnosis for Ro. http://www.vieraphotographics.com/cancer-whiskey-and-a-razor/ But nothing can keep these two apart and their love will only grow stronger everyday.

From Janie Osborne Photography… Alice and Mike are both summer fishing guides and so it is no surprise that they chose to marry on a beautiful lakeside private property in Yellowstone.

Fitting with their fishing theme, Alice decided not to walk down the aisle but instead was rowed across the lake drift-boat style to her ceremony site!

Following the ceremony, guests moved the top of the property where they enjoyed a gorgeous view of the lake while wining and dining under the shelter of a lovely Tidewater (sailcloth) tent.

The fishing theme was integrated into other parts of the couple’s wedding as well: A beautiful “fish” cake was the central attraction on the lavish dessert table. Trout shaped parmesan crackers complimented each place setting. And pictures of steelhead fish were featured on the large hand-drawn seating chart chalkboard as well as the table placards.

Cheers to Alice and Mike. And may they enjoy many happy years together in life, marriage – and fishing!

Elegant New Haven Lawn Club Wedding

Where, oh where do I start with this timeless beauty from Carla Ten Eyck… maybe the soft peach and lavender palette with a touch of coral, the stunning lace-drenched Bride, the glowing ballroom at New Haven Lawn Club. It’s all so lovely. And then, there are the bridal portraits that will make your heart swell with love. See every moment right here.

From Carla Ten Eyck Photography… Megan and Ante’s elegant wedding at The New Haven Lawn Club this spring was such a joy to photograph! From the moment that I met them both, I knew we were going to have a great time together! They were so easy with the laughs and so kind to each other during our meeting and then our engagement session, I knew their wedding was going to be even better! I was not disappointed! Megan was the calmest bride. She took in every moment, was present, glowing and ready with her trademark laugh at every turn! her family was doting and loving and amid the hustle and bustle of the wedding day stopped every so often to tell Megan how beautiful she looked… This is one of my favorite things to see, that despite this being such a big day full of many moving parts there is still time to take it all in and savor each moment as much as possible. I often put myself in the parents’ shoes and wonder how I will feel when it is my son or daughter getting married, and it never fails to make me pause and see my brides’ weddings in a new, even more emotional way!

When Megan saw Ante for the first time walking down the aisle, I could feel his smile and his cute little wave to her as she walked down the aisle made me laugh, he was even cute and funny at that moment! We had so much fun doing portraits and the whole wedding party was easy going and wiling to do whatever we needed to get the pictures Megan and Ante wanted! My favorite part was walking around Yale’s campus with them, everyone was so helpful and amazing! They let us in by one of the coolest gates on the campus so we could get some fun shots of Megan and Ante there… I love those images so much, for that very reason! People being so nice and loving and supportive to total strangers because they know it’s a big day! We ended the night in total ballroom elegance at The New Haven Lawn Club where the night ran so smooth, surrounded by the stunning floral designs of Fleur de Lys, and the perfectly lit room… what a wonderful night!

From the beautiful Bride… After meeting at a local restaurant in Greenwich, CT, Ante and I were inseparable. Within the first month of dating he told one of his friends that he was certain he was going to marry me. After years of adventure, fun and life, he proposed to me on December of 2012 in beautiful Stowe, Vermont on a horse and sleigh ride. The rest is planning history….

When we began to start planning the wedding both Ante and I wanted a classy, elegant, vintage but fun wedding. Sometimes themes can takeover your personality and stifle the atmosphere, so we decided to ensure pure elegance with loud touches of us. I have never been one to envision what our wedding day would look like but we did know that we wanted it to be timeless. Through these wants and needs, we decided on a color palate that was softer. We utilized blush pinks, ivory, gold, pink and peach. Once I started on the color gold needing to be elevated the rest fell right into place.

Our invitations were gold booklets tied together with lace and pearls. The bouquet for me was made of pure soft colors with gold and pink ribbon wrapping the stems and a sentimental pin from my grandmother. The bouquets for the bridesmaids were slightly louder in color with the incorporation of bright peaches and pinks while their dresses were lighter gunmetal. The guys had pink orchids, with Ante wearing an ivory/white orchid. My dress was a flared Ivory lace with tulle liancarlo, that had a romantic lace back yet elegant V neck line. Ante was dressed in a two piece fitted Hugo Boss navy blue suit with the classy touch of suspenders (my favorite partJ ).

Our venue could not have been more perfect at the New Haven lawn club. The classic chandeliers and functioning fire places really set the romantic mood! Cocktail hour had an amazing raw bar and the best part is, Ante and I got to enjoy the hour with our guests! The decoration style of the ballroom was based on our color scheme and involved white/ivory glittery table cloths. The table were covered with endless candles, cork bottom favor cards and family appreciation cards. The center pieces continued the feel of romance by having floating candles and hydrangeas dispersed throughout strategically placed branches. Because we really still wanted to essentially have a great party the band had to be amazing and it sure was! We were able to achieve such a romantic dinner with true elegance and class but still managed to have a great great party! Oh did I mention the late night snack with cheeseburger sliders and parmesean French fries? AMAZING…

We wouldn’t change a thing and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day…. And an even more amazing honeymoon in Australia and New Zealand!

Thank you Carla ten eyck for capturing the best day of our lives!

Parisian Inspired Shoot in Washington DC

Every now and again I come across a shoot so pretty I want to crawl through the screen and live in it. Well, thanks to L Hewitt Photography just such a shoot is sitting pretty below. Beautifully planned by Wit Weddings with gorgeous florals from Mobtown Florals and stationery that stuns from Julie Song Ink, it goes without saying that I’ll be spending quite some time devouring this gallery today

From L Hewitt Photography...I have a GORGEOUS Paris/Washington styled shoot for you that I planned with Wit Weddings. The romance of Paris with the international sophistication of Washington. We’ve got the warm glow of candle light on mercury glass, peonies, lace, leather, and high culture. We’ve also got some BRILLIANT talent and vendors involved, including cake designer, Maggie Austin, BHLDN, and Julie Song Ink. On top of that, we’ve included a recipe for a delicious French cocktail to go with the post.

From  Wit Weddings…The shoot was inspired by the elegant and romantic architecture of Washington D.C., which was modeled after the city of Paris. The architecture, and corresponding location of the Washingtonian private residence for the wedding, is an enduring tribute to 18th century French style.

As Parisian food is often a special moment shared, we wanted a table that seated the couple elbow to elbow to create just the right romance.

As a wedding reception allows for close conversation shared amongst loved ones over food, we paid homage to one of the greatest pleasures of Paris – the street markets, filled with produce, cheeses, and baked goods. The white linen hemstitch runner layered below the formal embroidered overlay highlights the juxtaposition of countryside-simple French farm table and sophisticated wedding elegance.

To create Parisian sophistication fit for a Washingtonian wedding, we drew inspiration from French dress, accentuating the natural beauty of the residence with simple and elegant details. The table and fireplace mantel were dressed with that je ne sais quois of a Parisian woman – an allure meant to bring all attention to the couple. We accessorized with lace, hanging greenery, creamy florals, and the soft, inviting colors and the warmth of flickering candlelight.

The iconic pearls of Coco Chanel at 21 rue Cambon, Paris, were incorporated into the petite two-layered custom Maggie Austin cake and the bride’s jewelry. She also wore Chanel perfume and a French lace inspired gown. While tradition has it that the bride wear something blue, we decided the groom himself brings the bride good fortune. And so, he was appropriately dressed in a blue suit accentuated by handsome brown leather shoes.

Do-It-Yourself French Apéritif – “Kir”

This cocktail of crème de cassis and white wine was offered to international delegations visiting the region of Burgundy. The cocktail became so popular that it trickled down to cafés and the ordinary frenchman’s before-dinner drink, the apéritif.

Pour 1 teaspoon crème de cassis into a champagne flute. Top with chilled Sancerre white wine, or for special occasions, champagne. Garnish with blackberries or raspberries.

Rustic Hill Country Wedding

When rustic meets romantic in the Hill Country, it’s always a beautiful thing.  Especially when it’s a pink and gold hued beauty like this one filled with sweet DIY details, soft florals from Wild Bunches and some Texas meets Louisiana goodness.  That’s a combo that makes for one crazy cool party, and when you throw in some amazing images from Bird And The Bear, it’s also an awesome Tuesday.  See it here.

From the Bride… I’m from Louisiana and so connected to my state – I never in a million years thought I’d end up in Texas, much less find the love of my life and settle down here. Since we were closing on our house in Austin (and I’d agreed to marry a proud Texan and UT grad), I felt like this wedding was my last hoorah as a true Louisianan! I wanted to have as many nods to my culture as possible.

Although I am far more comfortable in a hoodie and Chucks than a dress, I really wanted our wedding to feel beautiful and feminine. When else would I have a chance to go all out? With that in mind, we settled on a color palette of pale pinks and ivory with gold accents as a contrast to the rustic outdoor setting of our Hill Country venue. The groom and groomsmen wore gray tuxes with pale pink ties; the bridesmaids and maid of honor wore pale pink floor-length dresses.

I put off dress shopping until the last few months before the wedding – I wanted a dress that didn’t exist on any rack and I got so frustrated after trying on gown after gown and feeling like I was never going to find the right fit. I’d gotten recommendations for Cotures by Laura (a bridal designer and customization boutique in Austin), so I ended up buying a Maggie Sottero gown off the rack and brought it to Laura to work her magic! I wanted a lower cut neckline, very specific in shape, bustling, and – the most important and difficult piece – a bolero that fit perfectly. I was so afraid every time I went in for a fitting that something would be wrong, or that Laura would tell me that there was no way this would work, but she put me at ease every time! On the day of my final fitting, I totally cried – the dress was PERFECT and Laura truly took what was in my head and made it a reality after only a couple conversations and trial fittings. She was a dream to work with — such a passionate artist who is an expert in her craft. She made me feel like family. I am so incredibly blessed that she took me in and delivered my dream dress, and all for a very reasonable cost!

We researched so many venues before we found Heritage House, but we knew it was a fit from the first call with owner Cindi Baker. We clicked immediately and I thought, I have found my people! As luck would have it, Cindi is from the same small town my family is from. We locked in the venue in on the first visit – our best decision by far. Even the date of our ceremony was a Louisiana nod – our wedding fell on the last big party weekend of Mardi Gras before Fat Tuesday, so we celebrated double! Other Louisiana details: My best friend and maid of honor, Meagan, hand-sewed tiny gold charms from Etsy on the lace of my bridal bouquet – Mardi Gras masks, fleur de lis, alligators, even a crawfish!

Speaking of seafood, we chose Quality Seafood to cater the wedding – we knew we wanted good, Southern comfort food and their gumbo and hushpuppies are the best! We tried caterer after caterer trying to recreate their taste, but we knew Quality didn’t do weddings, so assumed they wouldn’t do ours. After many failed tastings, I finally gave them a call – their events manager, Carol, was such a dream and worked so hard to make sure their first wedding catering gig was a success. Both Brian’s and my grandparents owned seafood restaurants/markets when we were younger, so there’s a real comfort and connection for us when we’re there. We decided on a final menu featuring mini crab cakes with remoulade and andouille sausage at our happy hour, then big bowls of seafood gumbo, cornbread and hushpuppies with lavender butter for dinner. We were so happy with the food (even down to silly details like the pink seashells our appetizers were served on).

In lieu of a groom’s cake, we had our officiants (who live in New Orleans) bring up king cakes from the world-famous Randazzo’s bakery – strawberry cream cheese, my favorite! The cakes were placed in the bridesmaids’, groomsmen’s and family cottages onsite at Heritage House. Our music selections for the reception were a mix of Louisiana and Houston hip-hop, zydeco and New Orleans jazz. We also had the DJ immediately follow our first dance (The Flamingos’ “I Only Have Eyes For You”) with Rebirth Brass Band’s “Do Whatcha Wanna,” which got everyone out on the floor. The only thing missing was a second line!

We were careful to make sure Brian’s Texas pride was also represented – we had a full on Texas-themed rehearsal dinner in the Cattle Baron’s room at Texas Land & Cattle, a favorite steakhouse of Brian and his Dad. And we can’t say enough about the gorgeous natural setting of our venue, about 30 minutes outside of Austin in the gorgeous hill country of Dripping Springs. The whispy grass, cool breezes and endless sunset made for amazing photo ops. To continue the Texas theme, Brian (who loves craft beer) made sure we featured all local breweries (Real Ale Brewing Company, Austin Beer Works, and Southern Star Brewing) at the reception.

We wanted our ceremony to feel intimate and asked close friends to officiate. We involved our families as much as we could! Brian’s Gran opened with a prayer, and my brother Blake, a pianist, provided the music in the chapel. Brian made an awesome custom LEGO ring bearer’s box, and our flower girl, Brian’s niece, walked our two dogs, Ed and Ollie, down the aisle! (Their leashes, handmade by my sister Eli, were my “something blue.”) It was so special to have them there. The processional was a piano version of The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” my bridal processional was a piano version of Etta James’ “At Last,” and our recessional was a sped-up piano version of “Home” by Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes. We wrote our own vows and laugh-cried through them all.

I was so lucky to have help from creative friends and family to make all the gorgeous ideas in my head come to life – I DIY’d a lot! I knew I didn’t want big centerpieces on every table, so I spent weeks scouring flea markets and garage sales for vases I could spray paint gold. Mixed with hand-me-down crystal from my great-grandmother’s collection, they made for awesome centerpieces on the cheap! Our gorgeous sequined blush table runners came from Etsy seller Jessmy (linked below) and were the perfect pretty detail to tie them all together. I knew I wanted at least one statement piece and enlisted my sister and bridesmaid Eli to help me cut, papier-mâché, duct tape, spray paint and glitter our way through this 100 Layer Cake tutorial for a giant sequined gold heart! It was so awesome (and well worth the work)! We got so many compliments on it! Eli also made custom gift bags for all the kids at the wedding – they were filled with snacks, Legos, stickers, and coloring books. They were a huge hit! Additionally, my Maid of Honor Meagan made our DIY chalkboard signs with cardboard we spray painted and paint pens from a craft store. I’d collected the gold frames while thrifting, so total cost was less than $15 for all the signage at the wedding. It meant so much to me so see her handwriting on everything. Brian supplied everything necessary for a games table, and we framed photos of our grandparents and ourselves as kids to feature around the reception hall.

My favorite part of the wedding was giving Brian his wedding surprise! We have this inside joke about crabs – it sounds weird, but if one of us is feeling down, the other will text a crab with a description of what it does. For example, if I was scared to fly, Brian might text me a Bravery Crab, who would ride along with me on the plane and help with my nerves. Anyway, while thrifting for vases I found this amazing pair of vintage crab pins – gold, pearl and diamond – which totally matched the wedding! I can’t explain why these silly little wedding crabs were so special, but I just knew Brian was going to love them! At our First Look, I got to reveal them—he wore his on his suit (and pinned mine to my veil). They were a conversation piece all night!

We had a fiasco with the florist we originally chose — she totally dropped off the map less than a month from the wedding, and I was a mess. Luckily, our venue recommended Wild Bunches, a Dripping Springs local florist with a great reputation and (thankfully!) an opening on our wedding date! I scheduled an ASAP consult and they hooked me right up! I cannot explain what it felt like to walk into the venue and see the table arrangements for the first time — truly, they were beyond my wildest dreams and I just could not believe how gorgeous they came out! In my DIY vases were white and peach stock, blush pink and white spray roses, white ranunculus, pink veronica (my absolute favorite, also used in the groomsmen’s boutineers), seeded eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, and dusty miller. The swag draped across our sweetheart table was equally impressive — I will be buying blush pink spray roses and peach stock for the rest of my life to bring me back to our magical day!

One piece of wisdom I’d pass on to future brides is not to let vendors get you down if they flake or aren’t feeling your vision. There are so many amazing creative wedding professionals — keep talking to folks until you find the perfect fit.

Additionally, even if you are a crafty DIY bride, enlist a wedding coordinator for month-of help. I didn’t think I needed a coordinator, but I was so wrong! Maggie Gallant, our coordinator, was a lifesaver for me and gave me a reality check early on about how many tasks were left to complete (and how best to tackle them)! She taught me that no matter how much work you put into the wedding months before, you really owe it to yourself to be able to stop working and actually enjoy those blissful days before the ceremony with your soon to be husband, family and friends who have traveled so far to celebrate with you. I’m so glad that I took her advice!

Colorful Beach Wedding at Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana

Take some vibrant (+ gorgeous) hues and mix them with the breathtaking paradise better known as Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana and it’s what we call beyond awesome. Now add in a stunning ceremony overlooking crystal blue waters, sand frolicking and a week-long vaca with friends and family and, well… destination perfection.  See it all captured by 1001 Photography right here.

From The Bride… The day I met Pat, I instantly fell in love with him. His laid-back personality resembled mine so much. He was silly, adorable and so much fun to be around. We became close very fast and just after few months we moved in together. It didn’t take much for us to realize that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

We knew from the start that we wanted a destination wedding. We wanted a location where everyone could come together, relax, and celebrate with us. We wanted it to be personal, yet casual, simple, and easy. So the search began. After going through 40 different resort reviews and quotes we decided that Dreams Palm Beach in Dominican Republic was the resort for us. The beach was phenomenal, the grounds were immaculate and the reviews about food and service were exceptional. It was all we were looking for.

After arriving at the resort our expectations were exceeded. We met with the resort’s wedding planner, Julie, and she did exactly what we were hoping for. She gave us a worry free week-long vacation with our family and friends while she ensured that what we envisioned became a reality. She took care of all the details, arranged for a make up artist, a hairdresser, a florist and our entire wedding reception. Looking at the crowd of family and friends and seeing everyone having such a great time I knew we made the right decision.

I loved our entire wedding and having our family and closest friends in the same place was amazing. It was better than I ever could have imagined. It was a day filled with love, happiness and excitement, tons of laughs and many tears. It was a true expression of our personalities and our love for one another. It was completely perfect.

Fall Wedding in Amherst, Massachusetts

There’s nothing like Fall in New England. It’s total perfection, made even more so by this pretty Amherst affair captured by  Sorella Muse Photography. The brides envisioned a relaxed garden party and that is exactly what they got, complete with fresh-picked bouquets from the local flower farm. Friends, family and whole lot of love; that’s just what you’ll find in the full gallery.

From Sorella Muse PhotographyEmily and Katie’s vision for their wedding was “the last garden party of summer” and that’s exactly what their day felt like. They also knew their would be wildflowers and mason jars, two things that they both love. They wanted community to be at the heart of their wedding, as much as their love story. These are two women who deeply value and cherish community, and have built theirs in a thoughtful, genuine way. That sense of community was felt throughout their wedding, from a dear friend officiating to readings during the ceremony, to the most beautiful toasts from friends during the reception. And their schedule was created in such a way that the day unfolded at a slow and leisurely pace, nothing rushed or hurried, allowing for them to really spend time individually with their friends and family.

In the morning Emily and her sister Camille went to a flower farm where they have gone since they were little girls to pick flowers. The plan was to pick enough flowers from the cutting garden for three bouquets. But when we arrived, they explained that the cutting garden was closed for the season. What almost ended as a floral disaster was quickly rescued–when they found out it was for Emily’s wedding, they sent Emily and Camille to the display garden, and not only that, they gave all the flowers cut to her as a wedding present! It was such a lovely, sweet start to the day.

Emily got ready at her mother’s home in Amherst, doing her own make-up and hair, then slipping into a dress that was classic and simple. She wore a birdcage veil and an heirloom necklace. Both brides wore red shoes. Katie put the finishing touches to her J.Crew attire at the Lord Jeffrey Inn and then walked with her brother to the Amherst Woman’s Club, a historic house that served as a classic venue for their relaxed garden party wedding.

After an incredibly sweet first look on the wide lawn in front of the house, they mingled with guests before their ceremony started. At the end of the ceremony, Emily and Katie jumped the broom–an African American tradition that dates back to slavery, signifying a leap into a new life together.

Simple, Sweet Yellow Inspiration Shoot

Event Venue

From Bumby PhotographyThe photo shoot was designed to showcase a new venue in the city of Ocoee, which prides itself on having a southern, small town feel. When coming up with the concept we wanted something current, but still timeless, and for it to be something lots of brides could see themselves in.

We wanted the shoot to capture an elegant southern look. So we used touches of magnolia and milk glass throughout the design, and chose creamy yellows, golds, shades of green and accents of dark wood to give it a warm, sophisticated feel. And of course there’s nothing more southern than sweet tea, so we incorporated that into the escort cards, the beverage station and other accents.

From the beautiful Bride…Scott and I met in Wilmington, NC in 2007 at our gym and it wasn’t until about a year later that we went on our first date, taking both of our crazy chocolate labs to play ball on the beach. We dated for a few years before Scott decided to go back to school at the Virigina Tech Carillion School of Medicine in 2011. After a long distance relationship and a LOT of driving, Scott proposed on Wrightsville Beach with our two chocolate labs in tow, reminiscent of our very first date years ago.

When we started this whole wedding planning process, we knew we didn’t want it to be anything too fancy or formal, as that really just wasn’t our style. We wanted it to be relaxed, casual, and most importantly…a really awesome party. We loved the idea of renting a huge beach house for a week so our friends and family could stay and vacation right along with us. So when we found the Croatan Ridge home out in Buxton, NC, we knew that was the perfect place.

As a partner and designer of Mint 102, our wedding and event branding company, I wanted to make sure the event was well branded, of course. It might sound a bit strange, but Scott and I love a good skull and crossbones. So we paired our unique wedding logo with a soft coral to peach ombre pattern and a touch of gold made for a lovely juxtaposition. From the invites and save the dates, to the mason jars and water bottle labels, there definitely wasn’t a shortage of skulls present on our big day, that’s for sure.

The week leading up to the wedding was full of DIY wedding preparations, family meals and late nights of drinking games and catching up with all of our amazing friends and family. Our wedding was simply a night cap to the awesome vacation spent with some of our most favorite people in the world.

The day itself was perfect for us, but not because of the weather. While we were expecting the average 70-75 degree weather on the OBX, we were instead greater by some seriously crazy winds (and I mean wine blowing out of glasses, freezing cold, OMG is there hurricane coming and we didn’t know it- type winds…the proof is in the crazy hair). So everything after the ceremony had to be moved from the amazing pool deck overlooking the sound inside to the pool house…but hey, it didn’t rain!

We will be forever grateful for this awesome day and to all that traveled so far to celebrate with us. A very special thank you to our parents, our families, our friends, and to all of our vendors for all of their love and support throughout the wedding planning process and playing such a huge part in making this day happen!

Urban Chic Winery Wedding

I have a little theory that Brooklyn couples have the most style-driven weddings we ever come across. Case in point? This chic Brooklyn Winery soiree shot by Julie Saad that checks every love off the list. We’re talking long, wooden farm tables, textured, purple florals by G! Designs and paper goodies from Lana’s Shop that simply can’t be beat. Dive in here and see the pretty for yourself!

From Julie Saad Photography… Kelly and Jared were married on March 15th at the Brooklyn Winery, a fitting venue for the adorable couple considering their courtship. The Manhattan duo’s first official date was at Clinton Cove, a park along the Hudson River, which features a giant sculpture of a wine bottle. As their relationship progressed, they traveled together to Italy and visited a winery in Tuscany, where Jared proposed. The wedding completed a wine-themed courtship trifecta.

Kelly’s stunning wedding dress prompted her flower girls to proclaim that she looked like a princess. Her groom, Jared, blended an elegant tuxedo with shiny black sneakers. The guests watched the ceremony at the winery and then danced the night away at the reception.

DIY Late Summer Flower Arrangement

For this arrangement I wanted to use colors that reminded me of August evenings, right before the sun fades behind the horizon: golds, deep shades of pink, raspberry, and burgundy. The goal here is to soak in the last little bits of summer for as long as we possibly can! And what better way to do so than with an arrangement of seasonal flowers.

Materials
Vase
Floral Tape (only if you’d like)
Floral Clippers
Antique Antique Roses
Dahlias
Ranunculus
Poppy Pods
Stock
Amaranthus
Greenery

instructionsstep-1Once you bring your flowers home give them a fresh cut at an angle and let the sit in a bucket of water for a couple of hours. You’ll want the the be nice and hydrated for your when you make your arrangement.

step-2If you’d like you can tape a grid using 1/4 inch tape on the opening of your vessel to help keep flowers in place. I didn’t do it here, but it can definitely be a helpful step.

step-3Start with your base of greenery and Amaranthus. Give each stem a fresh cut before placing in the vase. I like to use a lot of greenery at different heights for stability, texture, and dimension.

step-4Start adding your focal flowers one by one, also giving them a fresh cut before adding to your arrangement. I started with the garden roses, then the dahlias and stock. You want the arrangement to have natural movement.

step-5Add the accents, the poppy pods and ranunculus.

step-6Add finishing touches by filling in spaces that don’t look quite right, or have large gaps.

Stylish Beach Engagement Session

Combining a laid-back setting like the beach with a super chic black dress and a killer paid of Ted Baker London heels was a brilliant (+ gorgeous) move on this stunning bride-to-be’s part.  It’s what we like to call taking the normal beach e-sesion and kicking it up a notch, and when you lay your eyes on the breathtaking images from The Obsession Collection, you’ll know exactly what we mean.  See it all here.

From The Obsession Collection… Dave and Stevie first met about five years ago while working together at bar on the gold coast; this was just the beginning, they have been inseparable since.

After asking Stevie’s parents for permission, Dave planned a lovely engagement by taking Stevie to Port Douglas, walking her through a pretty park full of beautiful flowers and getting down on one knee.  He had originally planned to do it on the beach, but Stevie was a little worried about crocodile breeding season, so Dave had to improvise.  He still got the answer he was hoping for, Stevie cried and said YES.

Dave and Stevie are such a beautiful couple.  Stevie was so nervous about the engagement shoot, but Dave made her feel at ease and the rest just came naturally.  By the end, I didn’t need to direct the couple much at all as they had forgotten I was even there and just really enjoyed each other’s company.

It was a very gloomy overcast day, but absolutely beautiful for shooting outdoors, we went for a very natural look and really wanted to express the couples emotion and excitement of their engagement.

For all of these images I used Kodak Portra 160 to achieve soft clear skin tones and beautiful timeless images.

Elegant Seaside Wedding Inspiration

Graced with soft waves of watercolor, driftwood detailing and an effortlessly elegant tablescape fit for any seaside soiree, this shoot designed and styled by Alex Meyer Events is what my wedding dreams are made of. Inspired by Walt Whitman’s quote “in you I wrap a thousand onward years” it embodies an endless love, wrapped in sooo much pretty. Get lost in all the lovely that Krista A. Jones snapped up here.

From Alex Meyer EventsThe inspiration for the shoot came from the Walt Whitman quote “in you I wrap a thousand onward years.” The quote is the essence of marriage! In you I wrap my whole future. The endlessness of the sea and the endless possibilities for a marriage paired so beautifully with the Whitman quote that I knew I wanted a shoot that had all three elements. Victoria from Design House of Moira created stunning art pieces of the quote for us to use throughout the shoot that ended up being one of my favorite parts.

The color palette was inspired by the softness of the sea so we used wood, white, green, and sea blues to complement the location. We used textures like the sheer runner, cotton rope, and driftwood details to bring dimension to a simpler palette. I really wanted the shoot to be an example of décor that is inspired by the sea without being overtly nautical. I wanted to use the “wrap” motif throughout the details, and the wonderful vendor team carried that theme throughout the cake, garlands, paper elements, glassware, rope detailing, and even the bride’s hair and makeup.

Everything was natural, textural, and romantic and embodied the quote so beautifully!

From The Bride…Brad and I visited Napa shortly before getting engaged and fell in absolute love with the terrain’s simple, casual glamour. When we started planning our wedding, I asked Brad where in the world (if he could choose anywhere) he’d like to get married. Even as I asked the question, I knew my dream wedding would be an intimate, curated, al fresco affair celebrating our most cherished pastimes – family, friendship, travel, food, and wine – under the California sun. I was overjoyed when Brad looked at me and, without hesitation, responded, “Napa.” With little free time due to our jobs in BigLaw and being not-so-conveniently situated in Philadelphia, we relied heavily on Melissa and Sydney of Bash Please for the design and coordination of our destination, multicultural, interfaith soiree. They happily took up the task. Overall, we wanted the day to feel organic, casual yet befitting of the occasion, and lush but not over the top. Bash Please was able to strike the perfect balance. They crafted a bold, romantic color palette of juicy fall tones, natural textures, and navy accents for us. The ceremony was officiated by my younger brother (a recent Harvard Law grad and exceptional orator) and held in an open field, under a massive oak tree adorned quite simply with an airy cream drapery backdrop, and anchored by an antique wine-colored rug. Hearing my brother’s heartfelt and deeply personal words was one of the standout moments of the day. We set down a bouquet of flowers on one of the front benches in honor of Brad’s recently deceased grandmother. As a nod to my Latino heritage, guests before the ceremony sipped on Sangria, and afterwards enjoyed paella and a Spanish guitar trio.

Our reception was held in the ruins of an old winery — an open air but enclosed space with cobblestone walls enveloped in ivy. The reception decor took its cues from the deep burgundy tone of wine. Bash Please handcrafted wine-dyed table runners and a matching Smilebooth backdrop, as well as wine-dipped escort cards with navy calligraphy. To keep things from being too stuffy, they designed calligraphed Kraft menu bands that encircled the napkins. And as a play on the surroundings, the table numbers were displayed on cobblestone and calligraphed leaves served as place cards. Hand-drawn leaves inspired by our custom invitations also adorned the signage displayed throughout. Brown Paper Design created breathtakingly lush, wild arrangements of garden roses, dahlias, and antique hydrangea interspersed with local plums, cherries, and grapes. Brown Paper also hand-dyed just the bottoms of the oversized cream, curtain panels that served as our makeshift doors for the reception space. Dinner was served family style to encourage interaction and skewed toward what was in season and locally grown (with some of our favorites, including churros and affogato instead of a wedding cake for desert). We nixed the traditional activities and kept only the toasts and first dance, which we had secretly choreographed, but never in a million years thought we’d be able to pull off. Surprisingly, it was so much fun and, among such dear family and friends, felt completely natural. We’ll always cherish sharing wine country with our loved ones (most of whom had never visited before) and especially hearing about all of their travels up and down the West Coast and forays into San Francisco. At our wedding, a friend of ours told us it reminded her of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. That description feels right in a lot of ways, but mostly because marrying Brad and having the people we love fly out to Cali to witness it all was, in fact, a dream I’d had since Brad and I first fell in love. I was elated and very lucky to have seen it realized in such spectacular fashion. We’re forever in debt to all of the folks who made it possible.

Celebrate Your Big Day with Michelle Sparkling Wines

It’s pretty clear, we love all things bubbly-related around these parts — but we have a certain affinity for Michelle Sparkling Wine! Perfect for everything from engagement party cocktails to wedding day toasts, their wines are seriously delicious. Today, we’ve partnered with them to share serving tips + tricks to make sure the cocktails are on point for your next nuptial-related celebration!

There are a million and one reasons we love Michelle Sparkling Wines. Number one? Their incredible wines are made from premium grapes sourced from Washington state’s Columbia Valley and crafted in the traditional champagne style, Méthode Champenoise.  Michelle Sparkling Wines have beautiful apple and citrus flavors and natural high fruit acids, giving their high quality wines a unique style and taste. To make sure your pre-wedding bash cocktail or big day bubbly is perfect, we’ve put together a list of serving tips + suggestions. Ready?

1. Ideal Serving Temperature43-50° F, so just slightly warmer than the average refrigerator, is just right. If you chill your bottle for a few hours, then let it sit out for about 30 minutes prior to serving, it will be perfect!

2. The Perfect Pour: Pour a splash of bubbly down the side of a clean, soap-free flute. Let the foam subside a bit before filling the glass 2/3 – 3/4 full.

3. Safely Removing the Cork: 1. Point the bottle away from yourself + others! 2. Remove the foil + untwist — but do not remove the wire cage. 3. Place your thumb on the top of the bottle to prevent an unexpected pop of the cork! 4. Cover the top of the bottle with a towel or cloth. 5. Tilt the bottle at a 45 degree angle, firmly hold the cloth in on hand and slowly turn the bottle with the other. 6. Voila! The cork should ease smoothly from the bottle.

4. How Much is Enough?: You should budget 1 1/2 glasses per guest for a one hour reception or 1/2 a bottle per guest for a 3-4 hour reception! Bottoms up, my dears!

I don’t know about you all, but I’m ready for a glass of bubbly right about now! It’s five o’clock somewhere, right?! For even more information on Michelle Sparkling Wines, check them out on Facebook or head over here. xo

Behind the Blog with Berlin Paris

Allow me to introduce you to sweet Melissa, the beautiful woman behind the blog Berlin Paris. Though she originally started as a fashion blogger, she now writes weekly for Elle Germany (hello dream job!) as she travels between, well, Berlin and Paris. We recently caught up with her in the city of love, and we’re here today to tell the tale. With dreamy photos from Le Secret d’Audrey, I highly suggest you take a moment to pore through the gallery.

SMP: Tell us a little about Berlin-Paris!

M: Berlin-Paris is an online diary I keep for Elle Germany, where I publish articles three times a week. I write about fashion, beauty and my life, constantly traveling with my little dog between my two homes in Paris and Berlin. I report on trends just as I write about the things that are on my mind at the moment. It truly is the world, as I see it.

SMP: How did you end up landing a job blogging for Elle?

M: I wrote about 100 emails to all kinds of magazines trying to promote my tiny little blog that I had back in the day. I was turned down 99 times but someone must have noticed me. Next thing I knew, I was invited to the Elle headquarters and was being offered a job.

SMP: What’s one thing you’ve learnt along the way?

M: That it is important to maintain the conversation with your readers. I try to answer as many of my comments and questions, as I can. I very much value my readers opinions, their input and their support. Without my readers I would not be able to have this blog and all the beautiful things that have happened in its wake.

SMP: If you could go back in time, what would you do differently?

M: I think I would have followed my dream and would have gone into journalism straight away, instead of studying art history and business management. I always had a passion for writing, but didn’t believe in myself enough and just went for the safe, parent pleasing option.
But on the other hand, maybe I did do the right thing, because I ended up having my dreamjob I never even knew existed, and everything I have ever done led me up to this point. So I guess it is all good after all.

SMP: One piece of advice you’d give to a blogger just starting out?

M: Be unique. Find your own voice, that is uniquely yours and don’t bother too much with what everyone else is doing. If you go crazy checking one billion other blogs every day, you will begin to second guess yourself and start to sound like everyone else. It is individuality that makes you interesting, your very own point of view.

SMP: What was the tipping point in your business that made you feel your blog was going to thrive?

M: I think I have not arrived at that point yet and I wonder, how that feeling would be like. But something that made me really happy was at the beginning of this year, when Chanel invited me to do an exclusive behind the scenes visit to their Haute Couture ateliers at Rue Cambon in Paris, and later see the Couture show at the Grand Palais, with all the famous magazine editors and celebrities. In the days leading up to the event I watched the Coco Chanel movie over and over again to “prepare myself”, but it didn’t work. It still felt so surreal and overwhelming that I actually had to pinch myself!

SMP: What color do you think will stand the test of time?

M: Red. As long as women will want to be seen as strong and sensual, red will never go out of style.

SMP: One thing you simply can’t live with out?

M: My GHD straightening iron. I have the craziest curls and would be totally tangled up without it!

SMP: Three things every fashionable woman should have?

M: Fabulous black heels she can really walk in, a classic investment Handbag in black like a Lady Dior, a Chanel 2.55 or a Kelly and a beautiful tailored Coat in an amazing colour like red or pink.

SMP: Your favourite online design resource?

M: I love Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram as endless sources of inspiration. For online shopping I love browsing Farfetch and Moda Operandi for one of a kind pieces I can find no where else. But apart from that, I really love the shopping experience in the tiny parisian boutiques and markets, where I regularly hunt for vintage treasures.

Whenever a wedding comes along that is filled to the brim with beautiful blooms, you can bet it wins my pretty vote right off the bat. Enter this elegant university affair from K and K Photography that begins with soft neutrals and is then layered with vibrant petals galore from FH Weddings. It’s just the dose of lovely we need this Monday afternoon.

From the beautiful Bride… Greg and I are both from Tampa so the inspiration behind our wedding really stemmed from wanting our guests to experience downtown/historic Tampa.
