Bright “Love in Bloom” Wedding Inspiration

Mondays don’t necessarily win in the popularity contest in days of the week, but sit tight loves, because that’s all about to change. Splendid Supply Co.Studio FleuretteCocoa & Fig and Paper Rock Scissor worked their color inspiration magic, and the goodies from Paper Antler are sitting happily right here.

From Splendid Supply Co… In Minnesota, spring starts really late and doesn’t last long, so we wanted to design an inspiration shoot that celebrates the season we so look forward to each year. We used a variety of floral motifs to create an underlying vision for the shoot, including fresh and paper flowers as well as floral patterns and graphics. We then layered in a palette inspired by the first pale blooms of spring paired with some poppy tones to give it a contemporary, less expected look.

The overall shoot style leans modern, with lots of bright white to keep it fresh and hints of gold for a celebratory feel. It was softened by vintage details throughout the design, including the Victorian silhouettes of the table legs and orange goblets, the milk glass vessels with soft, whimsical floral designs, the midcentury vintage tableware and flatware, and the two stunning blush Claire La Faye dresses our bride wore.

From The Bride…One of my family’s favorite places in the world is Mallorca, the Mediterranean island off the coast of Barcelona. It has this perfect blend of wild nature, stunning architecture and a hippie sensibility. The location became my driving vision for the wedding: outdoors, laid-back, exotic, bohemian and romantic. Relaxed elegance was the vibe.

To capture the Spanish seaside village style, I chose a white on white color palette for the long, family-style dinner tables and classically European, dark wooden bistro chairs. Heavy white plates and silver place settings lent a refined rustic feel. The table glowed with brass lanterns and dripping candlesticks, while the pool and every stairway was lined by tall white votives. White round bulb string lights hung over the dinner and dancing areas.

Travel has formed a huge part of both Dan’s and my lives, from trips with family and friends to studying and living abroad. Mallorca is a crossroads between cultures, so to create that global feeling, we decorated the lounge areas with Moroccan tea glasses, African stools, colorful pillows from Greece, wooden Spanish benches, painted Moroccan tables and clay water pitchers from Portugal. As a nod to my family’s ties to Mexico, papel picado wedding banners floated above our guests as they arrived. Almost every decorative item came out of our and my parents’ homes, reflecting years of traveling and collecting.

I knew day one that I didn’t want floral arrangements – that the greenery we used would come from my parents’ garden. Our ceremony took place under my parents’ pergola covered in grape vines and our guests sat among four olive trees. Potted lavender and dwarf orange trees lined the ceremony aisle, olive branches ran down the dinner tables and sprigs of rosemary attached the escort cards to a Moroccan iron screen. Yellow roses, my grandmother’s favorite flower, served as accents. I carried a bouquet of daisies, my birth flower. And a single clementine sat on each guest’s plate at dinner – a detail I picked up from photos of a Mallorcan wedding I found.

We had no wedding parties; our immediate families walked down the aisle with us while flamenco guitarists played. My godfather married us as we stood on a Moroccan rug in a nontraditional ceremony that drew from wedding customs around the world. We wrote and recited our own vows. Our programs described the symbolism of each visual choice and ceremonial element. One of the most memorable moments came when our family members stood and gave us their personal blessings.

Glasses of cava with lavender sprigs welcomed the guests pre-ceremony, so they could immediately get into the party spirit. Large metal tubs overflowed with Old Speckled Hen, the first drink Dan and I ever shared together. At cocktail hour, while the guitarists continued playing, we served signature beverages named after where we met (The Village Idiot, made of bourbon and cherry bitters for Dan) and where we got engaged (Hollywood Forever, a mezcal and citrus concoction for me).

To keep things casual and intimate, we knew we wanted to do family-style sharing for dinner. The meal started with a plated salad of arugula with stone fruit and burrata. Then came salmon with lentils, hanger steak with a shallot wine sauce, chili-flake broccolini and the most amazing “smashed” potatoes ever. Passed appetizers at cocktail hour included risotto balls, goat cheese and fig tarts and ahi tuna tacos. The bread was from one of our favorite restaurants, Tavern. And we meticulously tasted and chose the Spanish wines together.

When the lights went down, our ceremony space transformed into a fire pit, encircled by traditional Mexican leather chairs and fixings for s’mores. Across the pool, we projected drinking and dancing clips from classic movies, edited by our DJ company. The music rocked and we were so glad we picked a DJ over a band – it definitely created the perfect party atmosphere. On the dance floor, Dan’s and my ’80s and ’90s favorites mixed seamlessly with old standards and current hits. Guests of all ages filled the dance floor nonstop.

We cut the cake once again under the pergola, which now sheltered the most incredible dessert table ever, lit up by dozens of candles. Star-shaped lanterns hung above. Our main cake was carrot with buttercream frosting, decorated elegantly with sprigs of lavender. It was flanked by five smaller chocolate bundt cakes, a recipe that came from my mother, and is one of our family traditions.

When we finally had to turn the music off, the guests who still had energy moved to an after-party in a room overlooking the pool. Guests lounged together on floor pillows and poufs, enjoying midnight snacks: french fries, grilled cheese sandwiches and Mexican wedding cookies. I surprised Dan with a platter of his favorite: gourmet pigs in a blanket – which I had once sworn I would never, ever serve at my wedding!

Romantic Rome Garden Wedding at Villa Aurelia

This wedding is the definition of a destination dream wedding. Can you even imagine saying I do to your main squeeze in Rome with the stunning Villa Aurelia setting the scene for a perfect garden soiree? It just doesn’t seem like it could all possibly be real, but for it was for this couple, and thanks to Studio A+Q we get to devour all the gorgeous here.

Villa

From Stefanie CoveAgatha and Ryan’s general aesthetic (whether it is their personal taste or when designing restaurants) is very natural and organic – not exactly typical for Roman event styling, where the wedding decor often boasts red roses, fabric treatments and other lavish elements! However, as it IS the most romantic city in the world, there was no better place for a beautiful garden wedding overlooking the amazing city lines. The idea was to create an atmosphere where the guests felt relaxed while at a simple yet elegant dinner party…nothing traditional or stuffy about it. Chefs serving the guests themselves with fresh burrata (made THAT morning) helped establish this dinner party at-home atmosphere. Villa Aurelia was the perfect location to create this enchanted garden vibe. The ceremony was held under a canopy of gorgeous trees within the lush gardens. The dinner was in an area referred to as the “Secret Garden.” Guests dined al fresco on wood tables that were draped with handmade, sheer linens. The center of the tables featured terra cotta vessels that were filled with a mix of ivory dahlias and garden roses with green accents of hydrangea, baby ferns and fresh figs –Agatha’s favorite! After dinner, the guests lounged on chesterfield sofas, enjoyed authentic Italian gelato (served from the cutest vintage cart) and danced the night away with the city of Rome lit up in the background.

DIY Rainbow Hued Wedding

This bride is awesome for a lot of reasons (rainbow-hued wedding theme, anyone?), but I have to say that her ability to craft one breathtaking detail after another (with the help of amazing family + friends) is most certainly standing front and center in this gorgeous day captured by Brian Shofner.  I’m talking everything from burlap bows to signage to those crazy cool centerpieces.  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Although my love grew up in Michigan, I, a native Texan, could dream of nothing more wonderful than a wedding in the Hill County of Texas. Where the stars at night really are big and bright and rolling tree-filled hills encompass one’s being. We wanted our wedding to feel relaxed, like a home where you can put your feet on the coffee table. That’s what inspired our day… well, that and our not-so-huge budget.

We chose Memory Lane in Dripping Springs, Texas, as our venue because it glows with country charm. We said our vows at the outdoor ceremony site beneath big tree branches and sunshine. We then continued our celebration inside the oversized barn-inspired reception hall. I, an eternal idealist, have always dreamed of a rainbow wedding. While some family and friends were skeptical, CJ, my sweet groom, actually agreed to this and allowed me to turn my long yearned for vision into reality.

We made nearly all of our décor, which gave me an outlet for my out of control Pinterest addiction and helped us save money! Our crafting included: burlap and lace bows to attach to the benches outdoors, burlap and lace table runners (thanks mom!), table numbers, centerpieces, escort cards, and welcome signs for the guests. For seven months, Hobby Lobby was just a regular stop on the way to and home from work. Now that it has all come to fruition, I can say, the work was worth it. I can’t imagine our special day without all the intimate touches which we created.

For the sign in picture, CJ drew our “Dreams do come true” picture where guests signed in by stamping their thumb print which was to be a collection of balloons helping a pig in cowboy attire to “fly.” Some guests got a bit too creative with their thumb prints, in our opinion.

For the centerpieces, I collected over 70 glass bottles of different heights in all colors of the rainbow (only purchasing on the weeks in which bottles were 40% percent off, of course). For the day of, Wild Bunches Floral filled the bottles with white hydrangeas, baby’s breath and daisies and we put three matching colors on each table. I hand drew each table number using a chalk pencil on black cardstock paper and inserted them into price-friendly picture frames purchased at Ikea which I spruced up with a small burlap bow.

I borrowed a Cricut cutting machine from a friend to cut each one of our boot shaped escort cards. I then added detailing with a white paint pen to each boot tip along with guests names and table numbers. The boots were hung on a ladder with mini clothespins for guests to take to their seats. Using black foam board and a white paint pen to mimic a chalkboard look, I free handed Pinterest-inspired lettering for our “Welcome to our Wedding” sign and our “Take a Seat Not a Side” sign.

My ball gown dress, designed by Justin Alexander, had a simple bodice, followed by a party of tulle and organza. I paired it with cowboy boots I already owned to match our theme. Although the gown was ivory, I rocked the rainbow with my fingernails, bouquet and bridesmaids. Since each of my bridesmaids is overflowing with personal beauty and style, I gave them each a color of the rainbow (purple, blue, green, orange and red) and allowed them to pick their own dresses, boots and jewelry. I wanted them to feel beautiful and comfortable too.

The guys’ attire was simple, but they looked handsome wearing jeans, belt buckles, white button up shirts and boots. They loved the comfortable clothing and it set a great tone for our down to earth celebration. For CJ, my groom, we added a Ralph Lauren brown corduroy coat which I purchased from Dillard’s during an internet door buster sale. It’s all about working the sales!

One of my favorite parts of the day was right before walking down the aisle when I read a hand written letter from my groom. It helped calm my jitters and reassured me of the great man I was marrying. Soon after, the music began and I walked with my sweet dad down the aisle and said “I Do” to my sweet love.

Oh and then there was the cake. Simon Lee Bakery, thank you for baking and designing cakes that can change lives. The bride’s cake had rainbow butterflies spiraling to the top and the groom’s cake was the shape of Michigan. Cutting into those cakes felt liking slicing through butter and it tasted like a smooth mouth full of wedding bliss. Yum.

This truly was a day full of sunshine, love and joy. Like everyone warned, it did go by fast, but I will always cherish the pictures, memories and my marriage. I wish a wonderful wedding to all to-be brides and if you also have a not-so-huge budget, I’ve provided some tips on how we saved money.

Sticking to the Budget

• Spending less, doesn’t mean less of an experience. Really. Chose carefully what is and is not worth splurging on. What are “must have’s” for you and your groom? For us, my dress and the cake were splurges. The rest was about creative savings.
• An easy one was the season. Having a January wedding saved us money on the venue and DJ.
• Utilize your resources, as in your friends. A wonderful co-worker coordinated our wedding day free of charge. My cousin and bridesmaid, who is a trained cosmetologist, did my hair and makeup for free. A pastor friend of ours officiated our wedding and did our premarital counseling which made the ceremony very special for us.
• Bulk order! This isn’t just a way to save on groceries (although I’d recommend it). We bulk ordered baby’s breath from Sam’s for the bridesmaids’ bouquets and wrapped them in burlap the morning of the wedding in twenty-five minutes. We also bulk ordered plates and plastic ware, and napkins all of which were big savings.
• DIY: I’ve already mentioned all of our DIY décor, but we also did it ourselves for other things, too. Rather than ordering drinks and appetizers from our caterer, we provided guests with water bottles and a rainbow soda bar full of bottled vintage sodas, like Orange Crush! We also made a build your own trail mix bar with nuts, raisins, Cheese Its and M&Ms bought in bulk. Oh, and not to forget, the build your own s’more bar, with oversized marshmallows, three different types of chocolates and graham crackers which could be roasted on an outdoor fire pit – huge crowd pleaser.
• Borrow, reuse and recycle. Let’s face it, nothing beats free. My garter and my hair flower were borrowed and I already owned my cowgirl boots. We also borrowed plenty of items for décor including easels, the Cricut cutting machine and appetizer trays.
• Get a food truck to cater! After doing several tastings we actually decided to go with a food truck in Austin, The Peached Tortilla, which was delicious and saved us a big chunk of change.

Classic Summer Wedding at the Boston Public Library

The Boston Public Library is one of my very favorite spots in the city that just so happens to play backdrop to this summertime “I do.” Think stately architecture, grand staircases, and one wildly in love couple completely managing to steal the show. Erin McGinn worked her magic behind the lens, and the gallery is nothing but classic wedding bliss.

From Erin McGinn… A classic and timeless summer affair at the Boston Public Library has to top the list of dream weddings. Amanda and Paul planned a stunning wedding incorporating their favorite things. One of the highlights for me to photograph was Amanda’s dress. Custom made by Daniel Faucher Couture from her family (the Adams)’s heirloom lace, it was incorporated into her gown and veil. So special and so meaningful. With a large wedding party, Amanda let me know she chose the serene colors of the bridesmaids dresses for their calming nature.

From the Bride… We wanted a bit of a ‘blended’ wedding- although we both grew up in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts Amanda spent many of her summers on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Paul spent much of his winters in Warren, Vermont. Because of the importance of our roots, our wedding takes a little bit of the Boston suburban feel, mixes it with Boston urban and then meshes that with Vermont rustic and traditional Cape Cod.

Family is very important to us so we also wanted a venue that could comfortably manage our large families. The Boston Public Library seemed the perfect fit- located in the heart of Boston it has an urban vibe from the outside, but the interior is serene and relaxed. Combine our choice of food (some comfort food, some wine and cheese pairings, some middle eastern fare), a lively band that can play traditional music as well as modern rock and hip hop, and throw in some Cape Cod decor and we think we’ve created the perfect feel for us.

Craft Beer Inspired Wedding

This wedding had me at craft beer.  Well, actually it had me at craft beer, candlelit reception and two high school sweethearts saying I do, but you get the point… it’s an awesome celebration.  From the breathtaking setting known as the Brooklyn Arts Center At St. Andrew’s to the tables lined with beautiful blooms from Kickstand Events to the awe-inspiring images from Theo Milo.  See them all here.

From Theo Milo Photography… This is a great candlelit wedding with a craft beer and food pairing twist. Dinner was served family style. A wedding planer herself, the bride had great input on the behind the scenes!

From The Bride… Planning our wedding was one of the most fun, challenging, and rewarding things that I’ve ever experienced. As one of the owners and designers of Kickstand Events, I have the privilege of seeing so many beautiful weddings every weekend; however, this was my chance to really reflect on what I wanted to evoke through my own special day! Over the course of my career, I’ve realized that although every wedding has similar elements, each one is so different because of the couple’s story, personalities, and supporters.

After eight years of dating through high school, college, and as young adults, Oscar and I knew that we wanted our wedding to reflect our unique journey as a couple and highlight the many things that have made our relationship so much fun over the years. Naturally for us, craft beer became our inspiration.

My vendors were relatively easy to select based on my experience as a wedding professional, and it was such a blessing to have them a part of my wedding (as friends and as colleagues). The Brooklyn Arts Center served as the perfect “host” to have our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, all in one beautiful space, which was very important to us. We knew that we wanted a venue that would allow us the option to bring in our own beer, food, and rental items—so this was the perfect “canvas” to make our inspiration come to life! Lighthouse Beer & Wine and Culinary Creations worked with us to create a food and beer pairing throughout cocktail hour and dinner service; while CE Rentals, RentATent, and Party Suppliers encouraged our “beer garden” atmosphere to really shine throughout the decor. My business partners were absolutely amazing in their contribution to my floral design, paper design and signage creation, and overall event production; I couldn’t have done any of this without their support and shared excitement!

The little details were the elements that I was most excited about when bringing our vision to life. The gold hops in the boutonnières, the tasting glass escort cards, the “Brewery Tour” inspired table assignments, the homebrewed beer (Hoppily Ever After and I Do Brew) that we served during the ceremony… it was all so much fun to create! However, as a designer, the décor was also equally important. Although Oscar and I are self-proclaimed “foodies” and craft beer enthusiasts, I still splurged on our beautiful chinaware, gold taper candles, lush garlands and draping, and floating candle display that framed our favorite quote from the Avett Brothers song, “Murder in the City”: “Always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name.”

There was enough opportunity to carry our inspiration throughout the event without losing sight of the classic design that I wanted to achieve.

Looking back, it’s amazing to have such fantastic memories from the best day of our lives, especially when the celebration was shared over a nice, cold beer with the people who matter most to us.

Romantic Laguna Cliffs Wedding

When Monday morning kicks off with a romantic, fairytale wedding as pretty as this one from Studio EMP, there’s no doubt we have an absolutely gorgeous week ahead. Bursting with blooms from Inviting Occasion, sprinkled around charming pieces from Found Vintage Rentals, every moment was coordinated to perfection by LVL Weddings & Events. See so much more in the gallery!

From the beautiful Bride… Since the age of 15, I have looked through wedding magazine after wedding magazine trying to imagine to what my perfect day would consist of. I have always dreamed about having a fairytale wedding. I wanted to have a wedding that was soft, classic, and romantic. I used several resources for inspiration such as pintrest, wedding magazines, and past wedding albums from previous weddings. I created a collage of colors, flowers, themes, and then present this to my wedding planner Kerri Hatter of LVL Event who then guided me in a direction that could fulfill this vision. I owe my gratitude to my wedding planner, and florist/designer Larrissa Rehder for carrying out my vision and dream of my perfect fairytale wedding. My favorite memories of the day were, the ceremony, walking down the aisle and seeing my husband for the first time! And the ambiance and decor topped off the evening, it was truly a dream come true.

The biggest piece of advice that I would offer to current brides is not to stress about the small things and to ASK FOR HELP! For me I wanted the day to go perfect and I felt I had to do everything on my own which resulted in a melt down! and The realization that I had a team and family members that I trusted and were there to help with the process and create the perfect day for me.

Seaside Wedding in the Hamptons

My heart beats a little faster whenever a Carmen Santorelli wedding comes my way. She’s the master of portrait storytelling and this Hamptons affair is the perfect (and prettiest!) example I could ask for. From the seaside views to the dreamy floral details by Bayview Florist & Montage, this wedding, m’dears, is one for the books.

From the Bride… I grew up on the beach and so I always envisioned my wedding in a similar setting. Our goal was to find a balance between a casual beach affair and an elegant traditional wedding. As soon as Steve and I walked into Oceanbleu in Westhampton Beach we knew it was the perfect venue for our reception. Once we had the venue selected all of the details and decisions fell into place. I fell in love with the color of the bridesmaid dresses and worked everything else around that. It was the middle of spring so I wanted to keep the palette soft and pretty.

Leading up to the day of the wedding the forecast was ominous. The rain held off for most of the day, including prior to and just after the ceremony. It started to rain when we arrived at the venue and started taking photos. Fortunately, the sky not only cleared within a matter of minutes but we even had a rainbow appear over the ocean. It seemed too good to be true. We were so happy Carmen was able to capture the moment.

Everyone told us that our wedding day would go by in the blink of an eye so we wanted to ensure that we took it all in. After a year and half of planning it was incredible to see everything come together. We were surrounded by our family and closest friends and the band had everyone up dancing all night. There are no words to describe the love that we felt that day.

From The Bride And Groom…We were extremely lucky to be surrounded by the love of so many friends and family members at our October wedding in Beacon, NY. We met while rock climbing in New York City, and spent many lovely weekends outdoors in the Hudson Valley, so finding a venue that captured the beauty of the area in the fall was wonderful. The setting—the Roundhouse at Beacon Falls–could not have been more lovely. We woke up the morning of our wedding in rooms overlooking the waterfall, did yoga with family and friends, and took photos in one of Beacon’s many parks after getting ready. The extraordinary Catherine Bourdeau from the Brooklyn Ethical Culture Society officiated, and Irene Woodward of True Blooms created the floral arrangements. Of course, Rich of Ciro Photography for capturing these details with heartfelt and beautiful photos.

Simple + Sweet New South Wales Wedding

Laid back elegance is totally this couple’s thing.  Well, that and throwing one seriously pretty + fun party. Because this, my friends, is a day that is the epitome of all things casual elegance with a big ol’ side of awesome thrown in for good measure.  I’m talking perfectly imperfect florals from Peking Spring, a sweet Poachers Pantry setting and some gorgeous images from Tea Lily Photography.  See them here.

From the Bride… It was important for us to start married life the way we wanted to live it; walking in sunshine, surrounded by friends and family and living off local produce. So we took inspiration from our goals in life to shape our summer wedding, choosing a venue with its own vineyard and smokehouse, and rustic charm.

Like our relationship, everything about our wedding fell easily into place… even when things didn’t go to plan, it just felt right! We wanted everything to feel natural and sincere, so it was important to us to have a flexible schedule, and no wedding rehearsal (which may have shown when I accidentally kissed my now hubby ‘hello’ BEFORE saying our vows!).

Our photographer Joel was so unobtrusive during our wedding that we almost forgot he was there. Every moment he was photographing us was the perfect opportunity to slip into each other’s arms and enjoy the romance of it all. This made for a relaxing wedding day as well as some genuine, private moments in the photos Joel captured.

Chic Seaside Bald Head Island Wedding

The details that make up this sunny Bald Head Island wedding day from Abby Grace are nothing short of chic Southern charm at it’s best. Fluffy peony bouquets sculpted by the Bride’s very own Grandmother, furry friends adorned with baby’s breath wreaths, glittered Kate Spade heels and a custom Woodford Reserve blend signifying the joining of two families. And that’s just for starters… you can find the rest right here in the gallery!

From Abby GraceMeg & William met at the Gala in White on Bald Head Island in 2008, on the very same steps of the club that hosted their wedding reception. They both grew up vacationing on the island with their families, so BHI was the obvious choice for their big day. The wedding was a chic, sophisticated affair with coral and light pink themes + peonies throughout, a perfect representation of the elegant Southern charm of the island.

The ceremony itself took place in the shade of an oak tree, at the base of BHI’s lighthouse, Old Baldy. Meg & William’s black lab puppies, Scout & Lilly, served as their flower girl + ring bearer, complete with baby’s breath wreaths ’round their necks.

The bride’s grandmother crafted the beautiful bridal bouquet, the bouquet for the maid of honor, and the wreaths for the pups. All of the additional florals were supplied by Courtney Stone of Kickstand Events- she did an incredible job bringing Meg’s vision to life!

A favorite highlight of the day was the wedding favor: together with their families, Meg & William selected two barrels of Woodford Reserve, a high-end Kentucky bourbon, to be combined into one custom blend for their wedding, representing their two families coming together as one. The guests danced from dusk til starlight under the airy white canopy with an incredible live band providing the tunes, and Meg + William made their departure that night in a Rolls Royce golf cart. The island is cut off from usual cars, so everyone on the island drives golf carts!

French Garden Inspired Wedding at Carmel Valley Ranch

There is nothing quite like a garden wedding. The magic is in the natural open air setting and the feel of an intimate backyard affair – hence why it’s one of our most popular genresAnd all of those elements layered in with a handful of fab vendors including calligraphy by MM Ink, florals by Pink Petals and loads of pretty images by Onelove Photography truly makes for a stunning celebration.

From The Bride…Eric and I really enjoy the outdoors, we live in Los Angeles and love spending our weekends hiking in the canyons or exploring the California coastline. We knew Carmel was the perfect place for us to get married because it is our favorite local getaway and it has all of our favorite things to offer: beautiful mountains, the beach, wineries, art galleries, cute shops, and great restaurants! Since Eric is originally from New York, and I am from Sao Paulo, Brazil, we knew that our family and friends would be traveling from several locations, so we thought Carmel would be the perfect place to meet up for the weekend.

We wanted a small and intimate wedding that would give us a chance to share our favorite things about Carmel with our loved ones. We planned a welcome dinner for everyone at our favorite restaurant in town (Christopher’s Restaurant), where they serve the most delicious fried green heirloom tomatoes that are locally picked. We spent the weekend enjoying the area, hiking, and relaxing in the sun with our friends. I even had a chance to catch a yoga class one morning, so we really felt relaxed by the time the big day rolled around.

On the wedding day, we wanted our guests to feel comfortable and at home, as if we were inviting them to a garden wedding in our own back yard. Hanging tea lights, scattered candles, our favorite books, and family portraits and pictures of us growing up decorated the ceremony site where we exchanges vows. The sun was setting over the mountains and wineries in the background, which made the occasion feel like a dream. Eric loves the sounds of violins, so we knew a string trio would provide the perfect music for the occasion. We picked our favorite songs, which were mostly a combination of jazz, Brazilian music, and classic rock songs by The Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John, etc. You would be surprised how beautiful Led Zeppelin can sound on a violin!

At the reception, we wanted to treat everyone to our favorite foods; charcuterie, seared halibut, and delicious local wines that Eric selected. We filled the space with large couches, comfy pillows, blankets, and a fire pit to keep everybody warm and cozy as they enjoyed the evening. For desert, we had marzipan-layered cake and “Bem Casados” which are individually wrapped Brazilian treats that are meant to bring luck to the newly married couple.

Sarah Pink was a wonderful florist to work with. I showed her endless pictures of French gardens and told her I wanted our wedding to look and feel like that. She made the vision come to life with delicate peonies and garden roses. For center pieces, we used milk glass and teacups, since I love traditional tea parties and I collect vintage teacups. Sarah also built a beautiful Chuppah for us, which is the canopy under which a couple gets married in a Jewish wedding. It is meant to represent the home that they will build together, and it is open on all sides so that family and friends will always be welcome.

Directly after the ceremony, Eric and I snuck away for some alone time before meeting up with our guests for the reception. They had set up a picnic table in the organic vegetable garden for us with a sampling of our appetizers and two glasses of champagne. We watched the sunset together and toasted to our new marriage. We were even visited by a family of four deer who came right up to us. It was such a special moment.

Driftwood Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by the prettiest of driftwood, this shoot from Kristyn Hogan and Cedarwood Weddings took a rustic-to-refined concept and turned it into the loveliest wedding inspiration. And I’m loving every single inch of it. As driftwood is worn, tumbled and beaten by the waves—the soft, elegant and curvy result is oh-so-lovely. Sort of the perfect natural decor for any seaside soiree, if you ask me. See more right here!

From Cedarwood WeddingsOur appreciation of driftwood evolved into a passion for combing Tennessee lakeshores (including Cedarwood’s own Mooncake Lake) for unique pieces of wood smoothed by nature and time into sculptured works of art. This transformation from rustic-to-refined inspired our design team’s “Wildwood” wedding inspiration.

Partnering with The Dress Theory, we selected designer Sarah Janks’ “Briana” gown to complement our event team’s “Wildwood” styling contrasts. The SJ bride, according to the designer, is “a study in nonchalance, moving from sophisticated to sexy, and a beautiful contrast of strong and vulnerable.” To reflect this unique balance is the aim of our event design.

We infused both dramatic and romantic qualities in styling by blending re-claimed, weathered wood and antler sheds with organic hues, exotic flowers, and sequin-embellished linens. A driftwood chandelier (custom installation of flowers and candlelight reflecting in glass globes) hangs over the head table, repeating elements from the tablescape. Hand-lettered driftwood sentiments for guests, French bistro chairs and driftwood charger plates lend a warm, rustic- organic quality to the sophisticated ambiance.

Befitting the exciting romantic mood of our event styling, the bride and groom glide across Cedarwood’s Mooncake Lake in a vintage rowboat bedecked with a floral and driftwood garland.

French Brunch Inspired Bridal Shower

Having just planned my little sister’s bridal shower I can safely say that pulling off a gorgeous, love filled day is not a cake walk. But loads of inspiration and a solid game plan certainly help. So bridesmaids, get your pinning fingers ready. This French-inspired shoot crafted by Jacqueline Nicole WeddingsMaxit Flower Design and Kimberly Chau dabbles in coral peonies, the yummiest looking brunch fare and some requisite mimosas. Now that’s how you do a bridal shower.

From Nicole of Jacquelyn Nicole Weddings….I have always been drawn to the elegance of French culture ever since I started ballet training at age three. While enjoying breakfast and coffee one crisp spring morning at Sweet Paris Creperie, I realized that the cafe would be a lovely location for an intimate, French-inspired bridal shower. Kimberly Chau captured this bright and airy soiree perfectly with lots of laughter and smiles. I believe in utilizing pretty spaces with simplistic designs and hints of rustic charm, so the bar cart and farm table provided by Bourbon and Bloom proved to be a beautiful contrast to the polished tufted seating and classic Tolix chairs of Sweet Paris. As a fresh reflection of the spring and summer seasons, Maria Maxit created brightly colored floral pieces infused with greenery. The vintage eclecticism as seen in Parisian couture inspired the chic hair and makeup styles by the girls at Sunkissed and Made Up. Lindsay Ann Artistry designed a custom paper suite incorporating the cafe’s signature whisk and “no passport required” tagline. Inspired by a quiet breakfast at a cafe, I enjoyed taking a brief trip to Paris during this shoot, highlighting friendship and the delicate art of French cuisine.

Spicy Watermelon Salad

When choosing a menu that has to withstand the summer time temperatures, I always like to begin with a refreshing, and preferably cool, first course. My spicy watermelon salad is the perfect blend of sweet and spice, plus it highlights one of summer’s biggest stars. Just make sure you let your guests decide how much heat they can handle by placing the sliced jalepeños on the side. Enjoy! Truly, MKR
