Wine Shop Bridal Shower from Jillian Modern

I feel like bridal showers in general have been hit with a bad rep. But let’s be honest, silly games, crustless triangle sandwiches and a store-bought fruit plate isn’t really anyone’s idea of a good time. I’m thinking we need to abolish the stereotypical bridal shower altogether, starting with this one from  Jillian Modern. Venturing out to a wine shop with a handful of your favourite lady friends under your arm is one kind of shower I can wholeheartedly stand behind. Something fabulous to sip on, something delicious to nibble on and a handful of simple centrepieces will surely show those age-old bridal showers who’s boss! Who’s with me?! Ps – find the rest of this fun event in the gallery right here.

From Jillian… Pasanella and Son is the cutest little wine shop down in the South Street Seaport of New York. It’s housed in an old building that once acted as a mast factory for the ships that lived there a few hundred years ago. For those in the know, they have a secret back room that simply oozes ambiance and begs for an intimate event. So when it came time for Heather’s bridal shower, the location was obvious! Heather got right to work, gathering inspiration on her Pinterest board. She found a great free download on The Pretty Blog for the cutest vintage paper placemats, and who could resist the poms she scored on etsy. The space really speaks for itself, but one can never have too many details, am I right? Filling the room with all of Heather’s favorite people was the finishing touch.

Upstate Wedding from Bailly Photography

Have you ever been in love with a bouquet?  I have… and it’s this breathtaking number created by Anthology Studio.  A perfect mix of modern and classic with bursts of vibrant purple hues, it’s one of the dreamiest bundles of blooms you will ever lay your eyes upon.  Also dreamy?  The wedding behind the bouquet, this upstate gem from Bailly Photography.  It’s DIY paper goods meets a breathtaking ballroom reception meets a whole lot of rainy day pretty.  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride…Bryun and I wanted our wedding to be modern with some vintage touches mixed in, like my birdcage veil that I hand-sewed (I swear, I made and remade that thing about five times), an heirloom bracelet passed down from my grandmother that I wore as an anklet, and modern stationery and flowers. Since I do some graphic design work for my job, I was really particular about the stationery and fonts. We made our save the date postcards, invitations, ceremony programs, menus, favors and table numbers. I even constructed a light box in my living room using a desk light and a sheet of acrylic to be able to hand address the invitations.

The minute we walked into The State Room in downtown Albany we knew that it was the venue for us. Not only was it symbolic because we began our relationship just a few doors down in an office building on State Street, but also because the venue was classic – exactly how we would describe our wedding. The most important thing to us was that we would look back in 25, or even 50 years, and still say, “Wow, that was a classy affair!”

Since I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to planning events and activities, I knew that I would take no chances with an outdoor ceremony or reception. This paid off because we woke up to tornado warnings and predictions of torrential rain for the afternoon. I kept joking with the photographer that I expected him to take a photo with a funnel cloud in the background. Did I hope for rain on my wedding day? Heck no. We had three different locations lined up to shoot photos between the ceremony and reception, all of which were outdoors. But as it turned out, it not only rained on my wedding day, it poured. I know some brides would freak out in this situation, but that’s just not my style. I was determined to stay calm and roll with the punches.

Thankfully, our photographer knew of a great spot where were would be primarily covered from the elements but would still give some natural light and the historic backdrop of downtown Albany.  As it turns out, the rain was a blessing in disguise. Since we only did photos in one location, we were able to get back to the cocktail hour of our reception and actually eat and drink and spend some relaxing time with our family and friends before we made our grand entrance into the ballroom. Later in the evening when everyone was dancing the night away, the photographer asked if we would step outside for some photos in the rain, sans umbrella. At that point, I figured why not? I’m so happy that we just went with it, and trusted his judgement, because we ended up with some beautiful photos surrounded by rain drops.

Event Venue

From Reminisce PhotographyStefanie and Erik’s theme for their wedding was perfect for the city where they met and fell in love, New York! Their venue, The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers, was the perfect place to make their Big Apple dreams come true. With high, steel-beamed ceilings, the reception venue gave off the feeling of being underground in a train station (a brand new, beautiful train station, of course!)

Blue skies all around, the ceremony was held with gorgeous views of the Hudson River when Stefanie and Erik became man and wife. The bride’s flowers, white roses with pops of blue and green, reflect the her favorite colors, as do the blue bridesmaid dresses and the flowers everywhere (which filled the Lighthouse with a bright, vibrant feeling). A single, live violin played for the ceremony, making the moment extra romantic.

The reception room really brought the couple’s vision to life. The table numbers were each based on a subway line; the place cards had the New York skyline etched on the top. Each table also had a miniature subway train car and pens as favors for the guests. The loveliest part was the cake; a three tiered cake with the Manhattan skyline, different subway line signs, and to top it off, a Big Apple. It was truly a once in a lifetime wedding!

Alder Mansion Wedding from Charlotte Jenks Lewis Photography

I can’t help but get a little giddy every time Wedding Wednesday rolls around. Not only because it means wedding after gorgeous wedding all day long, but the rally of excitement, excessive pinning, and #WW Twitter love that follows. But to kick off one such special day, it takes a wedding with an extra umph of sparkle. *Enter* this pretty little number from Charlotte Jenks Lewis Photography that brings the modern fairytale fete to life. Join me for some major swoon in the full gallery right here.

From the Bride…Neither Simon nor I are from New York; Simon is from Bermuda and I am Canadian. Since we have built our life together in New York, we wanted it to be the place we were married. The emphasis for us was on family and friends and basically throwing an amazing party! We knew we wanted it to be unique. Alder Manor was the perfect place for us because it was outside of the city, huge, and so beautiful. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls in some areas but it added to the charm. The actually building was gorgeous and the grounds were sprawling and a little wild, which was perfect. It ended up being exactly what we hoped for – Fun, easy, and filled with the people we love.

Long Island Wedding from Timothy Lee Photographers

I swear this bride and I are the same person. Or at the very least, meant to be besties. For many reasons – that Jenny Packham gown? My dream dress. Her classically elegant style? Just happens to be my fav. But when I read her dashing groom surprised her a rendition of “All You Need is Love” from my ALL time favorite movie, Love Actually, I just about died. Because that is literally a dream come true of mine, and I am thrilled that it came true for her. Top all that off with florals from Blush Designs, and my virtual bestie had the most beautiful day ever. In every sense of the word. See it all here.

From the Bride… I wanted the wedding to have a 20s vibe, so we began by touring dozens of Gold Coast mansions in Long Island.  The moment we walked into De Seversky on the NYIT campus, my then-fiance said, “I have to get married here.”  With the location selected, we began going through our figurative Rolodexes seeing who we knew in the wedding business who would be able to work within our smaller budget.  We quickly got a referral to the lovely ladies of Blush Designs for our floral design, and we booked them on the spot.  I reached out to a girlfriend who is a graphic designer, and she was happy to work with us on the invitations.  She created the prints and color palette that became an integral part of the aesthetic.  I also used the prints to make coasters for our favors (with 125 guests at two coasters apiece, this was an incredibly labor-intensive process).  I also reached out to a friend of a friend who was an accomplished violinist and happened to be one half of a music duo who played weddings.  For the dress, I knew that I wanted to wear Jenny Packham, however, I had my heart set on a dress that was quite underwhelming once I tried it on.  The dress I chose had been in my back pocket during the selection process, and when I put it on it just felt right.  It was flattering, weightless, glamorous and underbudget.

The big day came everything was better than I could have expected.  Right after we had our first dance, Stuart asked me to stay on the dance floor with him and wait for something.  All of a sudden, a group of singers appeared singing, “All You Need is Love” by The Beatles.  I then realized that they were reenacting the wedding scene from one of my favorite movies, Love Actually.  Unbeknownst to me, my husband had been planning this surprise with five vocalists, the violinist and guitarist who played during our processional, a trumpet player, a saxophonist and a man to play the organ, topped off by a guitar solo performed by his twin brother.  Needless to say, I got quite emotional, and my husband set the bar quite high for all the other grooms-to-be out there.  We proceeded to do the Hora, break some challah and dance our asses off at what was (in my humble opinion) the best wedding ever.

From Rebecca Hansen WeddingsWhat a gorgeous wedding! Elaine and Josh were married in Fort Tryon Park in September. Elaine and her mother made all of the blue paper flowers which they mixed in with the incredible real florals done by The Designer’s Co-op. The weather was gorgeous all day, until the second the couple said “I do,” when a huge thunderstorm broke out. Everyone had to rush through the park to get to safe cover in the restaurant.

From the Bride…I’ve always thought it was amazing that we found each other, since our parents were born on opposite sides of the globe. And now, most of our family and friends are scattered around the country and the world beyond, so it was incredible just to bring everyone together to celebrate with us. We actually started off with a rainy morning, but it opened up to a stretch of sunshine just an hour before the ceremony. So we were able to fulfill my dream of getting married outside under a canopy of trees. The guests could see the Hudson river behind us. It was so naturally beautiful we didn’t need any decorations at all.

I loved my ceremony musicians – a guitar and cello duo. They created the perfect atmosphere to go with our eccentric but traditional style. My bridesmaids walked down to Somewhere Over the Rainbow. My father and I walked down to Oh What a Wonderful World, which was one of his favorite songs when I was growing up. We kept our ceremony short and sweet and thank goodness we did. Towards the end, every time the Reverend mentioned “God,” people could hear thunder rolling in the distance. We were oblivious until it was all over. I have such a clear picture of seeing my last guest walk into the restaurant, because the sky opened up and started to pour the minute she went inside.  There were even tornadoes! While everyone was inside enjoying the New Leaf’s amazing hors d’oeuvres, twin tornadoes were touching down in the city. So we didn’t get the chance to take all the photos we would have wanted, but I was happy to have been able to spend time with people during our cocktail hour.

My mother and I (but mostly my mother) had spent months and months making flowers by hand. I had very specific colors in mind so I hand-dyed reams of crepe paper and sent them to her. Some of the roses she ended up making were so realistic that I would smellucinate the scent of flowers whenever I walked by. Bridget Vizoso (our florist) took the flowers and wove them into the most amazing tablescapes I’ve ever seen. Eventually the rain lifted and we opened up the tents. Everything from there on was amazing. The speeches, the music, the food, the photobooth. My only real complaint was that it ended too soon, but I’ll never forget how magical the day was, tornadoes and all.

Montauk Wedding from Trent Bailey Photography

Truth be told, this Montauk wedding has officially made my Monday morning. Marked with a sense of understated elegance and impeccable style, it’s the kind of modern Hamptons affair that makes my heart feel a little fuller thanks to flawless planning on the part of Loli EventsTrent Bailey sent over all the swoon-worthy snapshots, and you absolutely, positively can’t miss the wedding film that’s like icing on the perfect cake.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/55471047?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=fad810 600 338]

From Trent Bailey PhotographyWe absolutely loved this gorgeous Montauk wedding….every aspect of the day was just GORGEOUS, from Stephanie’s custom made dress, to the ceremony location, and the idyllic reception spot.  We also filmed the day on super 8, a service we are excited to begin offering to our couples.

From Lauren Sozmen, Loli EventsBesides having family on Long Island and the beautiful summer weather of the Hamptons, the big draw for Stephanie and Zachary was the opportunity to use an incredibly unique backdrop for their ceremony.  Stephanie works for Luxembourg & Dayan and Amalia Dayan offered her Montauk backyard for the ceremony.  This is not any backyard, but rather an oasis of unique art pieces over looking the ocean.  The most recognized of the art pieces, is “Untitled (Lamp/Bear)” the creation of Swiss artist Urs Fischer.  This piece used to live on Park avenue in Manhattan.  Guests were escorted down a long gravel path before arriving to the stunning view.  After the ceremony guests went to the Inn at Windmill Lane in Amagansett when they were greeted with a lavender champagne cocktail and a hand written note to each couple from the newlyweds.  The overall feel of the reception was understated luxury.  There were day beds, rattan furniture, Moroccan blankets & lanterns through out the perfectly manicured gardens.  The receptions had nods to lavender and figs through food, drinks, flowers and scented candles, to pay tribute to the brides family vacation home in Ibiza.  Guests enjoy lavish Mediterranean style stations and danced the evening away.  To finish off this perfect day, guests joined around the fire pits in large adirondack chairs to make s’mores.

From The Bride + Groom…We met in high school in New York a few months before Zach left for college on the East Coast and we stayed very good friends throughout college despite my having left for the West Coast a year later.  We even met in Istanbul when I was a senior visiting my father in Paris and Zach was in graduate school in London.  Six months later, I was preparing for my own move to London for graduate school and Zach was moving back to New York for law school, and our relationship really started to evolve — he knew all about London, but was also imparting all his wisdom for an upcoming family graduation trip to Israel and we started spending a lot more time talking on the phone.  However, nothing that summer went as planned.  My family had to cancel our vacation and we ended up in the Dominican Republic (bad idea – it’s the rainy season!), only to learn soon after our arrival that my grandfather had passed away (not to mention that in the midst of all of this my housing in London fell through).  It was then that I realized the only person I wanted to speak to about all of this was Zach – and we hadn’t even started dating.  Another six months passed, and after endless hours on skype, I flew to New York to visit Zach because I needed to figure out what was going on between us.  I booked my ticket on Wednesday, arrived in New York on Friday, and the first thing Zach did when he saw me was kiss me.  Despite my pleas that we could not date because we were never in the same place, we spent the next several years in a long long-distance while finishing our studies and embarking on our careers – we did London-New York, San Francisco-New York, a brief year of New York-New York, followed by New York-DC, where Zach went for a 2-year government fellowship.  Finally in the summer of 2011, Zach returned to New York, we moved-in together in September, and in February shortly after our 5-year anniversary, Zach proposed in our new home.  By then we were eager to get married as quickly as possible!

When the gallery founder and her husband offered their Montauk home to us as a potential wedding venue, I knew our search was over and it would be perfect.  The backyard is filled with incredible contemporary sculpture and the view of the Atlantic was stunning.  We wanted an intimate wedding that focused on bringing our friends and family from around the globe together and a day that reflected our mutual desire to do things in a slightly non-traditional manner.  We also wanted to incorporate our many talented family and friends into the preparations and festivities.  We were married by Rabbi Sarna, the NYU Hillel rabbi – a friend and now colleague of Zach’s, under the huppah we built with my step-father and from which hung our fathers’ prayer shawls.  Our friend played all of the music at the ceremony and my dress was made by my incredibly talented friend, the young designer Katie Ermilio, and my matching head piece was designed by my talented friend Satya Twena.  And as a sweet end to our day, my mother baked all of the brownies and pies on our dessert bar to accompany the wedding cake!

New York City Engagement Session from Sasithon Photography

You know what I seriously adore?  At-home engagement sessions.  They’re all at once cozy and beautiful, with a little sneak peak into the lives of a Mr. and Mrs. who are beyond excited to get married.  That’s perfection in my book.  And when that at-home engagement session is the result of a rainy NYC day (like this darling shoot captured by Sasithon Photography), even better.  Because what’s more intimate or gorgeous than two sweeties curled up on their living room sofa?  Absolutely nothing.  Join me in the gallery for more.

From Sasithon PhotographyI recently photographed this beautiful couple, Meg and Jason, for their recent engagement. We were originally planning to take photographs in and around the city that day, except that the weather called for rain which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I shot in their gorgeous New York City apartment which created a cozy and intimate feel to the images.

Tarrytown, New York Wedding from Erik Ekroth

This bride lives and breathes Manhattan every day, so for her most special day, she wanted something a little more organic. Something fresh and alive. She got just that. With a floral design that almost lives and a venue so perfectly natural, the day was absolutely gorgeous, especially when offset by the almost architectural Peter Langner gown. Captured by Erik Ekroth, it’s a wedding that fills a gallery in the best way possible. Click here to see it!

From the gorgeous bride … Taka proposed on our third “First Date Anniversary” at our home. He gave me a placement ring on the day of proposal and the real gift was for me to design (I have BFA in Oil painting) my engagement ring with the jewelry artist from scratch! It was fun looking for the right stone and sketching the designs. Truly a one and only design.

Because I work and live in Manhattan, I wanted to be out of the city and breathe. Lyndhurst had everything that Manhattan couldn’t offer. Serenity, smell and feel of nature. The venue was a blank green canvas that stimulated my inspiration.

Early on in the planning, I got lost in the information and lost sight. So I had to find my vision by creating a collage of magazine cutouts. It resulted in a beautiful collage of different yet similarly themed objects and colors. I used that collage when I communicated with the vendors because often times, it’s hard to convey exactly what you are looking for through words. It really helped to convey what vision I had.

Since Taka and I are both from Japan, we wanted to incorporate Japanese touches to the wedding. We invited the Japanese drum group for opening stunt and later, we did the traditional ‘kagami-biraki’ ritual which is to crack open the lid of the wooden sake barrel (wishing prosperity). We gave our guests the custom made wooden cup as their take home favor. Guests loved the entertainment and the ritual!

I was tired of seeing flower arrangement styles that were unnatural and abusive to flowers. Then, I came across my flower artist, Ariel Dearie’s, flower design which was so airy and “alive” in all arrangements. The style that worked with the innate beauty of the flowers. I loved it, and it was elegant.

I then looked for the cake that will have the same natural feel and settled with Ron Ben-Israel after seeing tons of his creations that were just speechless and moreover, elegant. Ron created intricate sugar flowers for the cake that matched Ariel’s selection of flowers and shades of flowers used at our wedding to give entire reception the consistent theme. The cake was gorgeous.

When it came to the dessert choice, Taka and I are opposite. While I enjoy cheese or anything savory, he loves anything sweet and sugary. So, reflecting our personality, we set up farm tables for both sweets and savory items. We gathered our favorite sweets from all over NYC. We also created a lounge area next to the farm tables so that the guests could mingle with guests from different tables and enjoy the sweets and cheeses.

Buttermilk Falls Inn Engagement Session from Cly Creation

I think we can all agree – high school sweethearts are the cutest.  And high school sweethearts that have been together for eleven years and were engaged on a romantic trip to Italy, like these two lovebirds? Well, that’s a special kind of cuteness that we just love to see.  So, to celebrate these two sweeties and their serious adorability, we’re spending our Thursday basking in their breathtaking e-session captured by Cly Creation.  And let me be the first to tell you… it’s amazing.  Click here for all of the pretty.

From the Bride… David and I met about 13 years ago in high school. We became good friends and he eventually asked me out our Junior year. Fast forward 11 years while on our first trip to Italy he proposed to me in front of the Coliseum at night with one of his “famous” haikus. (We in Italy… There’s no place I’d rather be… Will you Marry me?) While in Tuscany I fell in love with the rustic elements the countryside embodied. My dream wedding would be an outdoor barn wedding in the rolling hills somewhere. However, living in New York City all that surrounded us were tall buildings, crowds of people and lights. I scoured the internet for weeks hoping to find an engagement shoot location that reflected the rustic elements I had fallen in love with. As soon as I clicked on the Buttermilk Falls Inn website I knew I had found it. The Inn is set on 75 acres of beautiful grounds filled with wild flower fields, lush gardens, ponds and the Hudson River as the backdrop. Matthew from Cly Creation knew exactly what my vision was and he captured the day beautifully. My husband and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to showcase the simplistic and comfortable love that we have for one another.

From the Bride… We were married on a beautiful day in mid-September at the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City, New York.  When we began planning, I was overwhelmed by themes and color combinations but in the end we decide to use a color palette natural to the venue that would let its spirit shine… after all, that’s why we fell in love with this magical place! Many of our guests weren’t familiar with the area so we had a musician play bagpipes outside to guide our guests through the industrial area and into the venue.

A family friend married us which was really special. We spent a lot of time with “Rev. Fred” thinking about what was important to us, choosing our passages and designing a ceremony that was meaningful to us. One of the most memorable parts of our ceremony was the way we incorporated the unity candle ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, after we had lit our candle, our bridal party lit candles from it and very quickly, all of our guests were smiling at us with small candles in hand. We walked out of the room looking at such beautiful light and beaming faces while a french inspired band played Pheonix’s “Lisztomania.” The moment was perfect.

We spent twenty minutes after the ceremony together in a small room eating and taking it all in.  We did all of our pictures before the ceremony and were glad to have so much time spending with our guests at the cocktail hour so we could spend the entire reception on the dance floor. We had the most amazing DJ who kept the energy high. We used the venue’s old trunks to create a gorgeous backdrop for our photo booth and our guests took home silly photos to remember our special day.

Our wedding day was the most memorable and most fun day of our lives!

From the moment I laid my eyes on this breathtaking NYC elopement, I was done for.  Like, completely and totally done.  Because this wedding?  This beautiful gem of day?  It’s a day that seamlessly blends the simple sophistication of one of the world’s greatest cities with a stunning traditional ceremony and a plethora of devastatingly gorgeous details that will take your breath away.  Oh, and that red Zac Posen? Amazing.  Dive into all of the beauty captured magnificently by Carmen Santorelli Photography in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Scott and I decided after planning a big wedding for over a year and half to take all the stress away and get married in New York over the holidays by ourselves.  The moment we made that decision the stress and anxiety of planning the wedding went away and the fun began.  I had been using all the wedding blogs for research for over a year and went to Style Me Pretty to find our photographer.  We found Carmen Santorelli and could not have been happier.  She did our engagement photos around New York and our entire wedding day.  We stayed at the Crosby Street Hotel. Carmen recommended Erica Ogawa for my hair and makeup. She is fantastic!  Erica was able to always keep me laughing and calm.

Scott and I got ready together at the hotel.  We hired a driver for the day that took us and the photographer to the Riverside Church on the Upper West side.  I really wanted to get married at a church and even though we were eloping I wanted the actual ceremony and vows to have meaning.  We found the Riverside Church thorugh a lot of research and were thrilled when they allowed us to wed there last minute.  We got married at the the Christ Chapel. When we first arrived to the church we met the pastor and spoke for awhile. We decided to bring our own music to the church.  We sat together listening to the music to start our ceremony.  Scott and I have always loved the song “Your Hand in Mine” by Explosions in the Sky.  We found a very talented man who had put together this song and recorded it on Youtube. The first time I heard the song I knew it was perfect.  Scott contacted him and we were able to use this song for our wedding.  We are very grateful to have found a song that had meaning to both of us.

After the music ended Scott and I walked up to the steps of the altar with the pastor and we started our vows by holding hands.  I had my mother’s bible that she had used for her wedding day with us and the pastor kept it on the altar during our ceremony.  The pastor did a reading for us and then we said our vows.  Our ceremony was perfect!  We laughed and smiled the entire time and I even cried.

After the ceremony we had the driver take us to the Lincoln Center Opera house.  We had planned to take pictures here and end our day at the Opera.  My wonderful friend Rhonda Traister’s husband made us a “Just Married” sign that we held together in front of the Opera house.  When we got inside we cut our cake, or rather, forked the cake.  We forgot a knife so the two of us took bites of cake together rather than cutting the cake and serving it.  After photos were done we entered the Opera and went to the Grand Tier restaurant where we toasted our day with a cocktail and relaxed together.  The opera was amazing and the entire day was a dream come true.  Scott and I were able to have the entire day be about us and we could not have been happier.

From the Bride… It was risky to have a late July wedding, but the wedding gods were looking after us as we had absolutely perfect weather for our big day. To make the day even more perfect, we were surrounded by 80 of our closest friends and family. We paid for the wedding ourselves, so I coordinated all of the decor and had my lovely family decorate the restaurant an hour and 1/2 before the ceremony. It was truly a collaboration of our friends and family that made that day so special.

Millbrook + Brooklyn Wedding from Lilian Haidar Photography

When this couple couldn’t quite decide where they should celebrate their I dos – the country or the city – they ultimately decided, why not both? So that is just what they did. And when most couples struggle to plan one fête, this duo doubled up their planning and arranged for the most gorgeous of affairs in both the countryside of Millbrook and the stylish streets of Brooklyn. The result is a gallery of images captured by Lilian Haidar Photography overflowing with love, style and so much prettiness. See it all here.

From the Bride… Chris and my relationship has always been a happy mix of the quietly intimate and the boisterously social.  We first met at the after-party of a music revue he performed in during Law School, and as he tells it, he was so nervous when he saw me that some other guy would swoop in to talk to me first, that he blurted out the first thing he could think of just to start a conversation:”Hey, I ordered cheese fries, like 30 minutes ago but they still haven’t come.”  Not exactly the smoothest pick up, but somehow it worked and we got to talking.  Five years later, after a perfect day together, back in our cozy apartment in Brooklyn, and waiting on another order of cheese fries that had not quite arrived, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  For me, these bookends to our dating life, a friend-filled celebration and a private intimate moment, represent two faces of our relationship, and ultimately ended up expressing themselves in our two ceremonies.

When we started planning, we both agreed immediately that we wanted a fall wedding – and that’s about as far as we got.  Chris had always dreamed about getting married at his parents’ house in Millbrook, New York.  While I loved the idea, having lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for the majority of our relationship, I thought having a local wedding that represented us would also work.  We made a trip up to Millbrook to discuss the logistics, but quickly realized having a big wedding at the house was just not practical.  Our guiding principle was “would we have fun at this wedding?”, and as we were discussing the pros and cons of a city versus a country wedding my father suggested an elegant solution:  “Why don’t you have it in both places?”

Thus, we began to plan two weddings, a simple, intimate ceremony and dinner in Millbrook for our immediate family only followed by a second, bigger ceremony and party with all our friends and extended family two days later at MyMoon in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  It was the best of both worlds and let us express both our quiet intimate side and our raucous, social side without compromising either.

I wanted both weddings to have personal touches, be in tune with the season and most importantly be fun for our guests (and for us)!  The ceremony in Millbrook took care of itself because the land is so gorgeous.  The tiny gazebo in front of the house where we held the ceremony needed very little decoration besides flowers.  We wove several generations of family history into the details.  I chose to wear my mother’s veil and a brooch from my Great Great Grandmother.  Chris and his best man (his brother) each wore pocket squares that were actually napkins from the original Ritz Hotel in Paris, where my Great Grandfather was a chef around the turn of the century.  After the ceremony, we had a small, intimiate dinner.  Chris’ mom transformed what is normally the “mud room” between two parts of the house into a cozy, candle-lit dining room with a single long table for all the guest to sit at.  It was a wonderful, close evening, that gave everyone a chance to laugh and share stories together in a way we never could have during the bustle of a larger wedding.

Adirondacks Wedding from Tracey Buyce

The perfect combination of sweetness and style, this gorgeous (ok, really gorgeous) wedding at The Lake George Club is the type of party that will leave you a bit breathless. The florals from Renaissance Floral Design will stop you in your tracks, the cocktail hour boat rides will make you smile, and the stunning reception space will make you wish you were invited. Lucky for all of us, the gallery captured by Tracey Buyce is so beautiful, it almost makes you feel like you were there. See it all here.

From Tracey BuyceThe Theme for the day was a mixture of the great Adirondacks and Lauren’s love of rich color and texture. Lauren’s Family have been members of the club and enjoyed many summers there ever since she was a child

The Hacker Craft boat was on the wish list for the family for many years, so on the day of the wedding Lauren and Andy arrived in style and then guests were able to take a spin around the islands close to the club during cocktail hour. HOW FUN!

Laurens sister had life cows at her wedding decked out in a custom lilly Pulitzer paint job. Designer David Michael Schmidt, had to give a little something fun for Lauren too, The Pig “GUNTER” was the mascot for the brew stations featuring local micro brews that the couple picked out.

Lauren loves desserts so wedding cake by Debbie Coye was on the menu and mounds and mounds of moose munch specially crafted by Krouse’s Homemade Candy, and trays of Italian cookies and pastries from the families favorite bakery

As Lauren cut the cake all in the room suddenly changed their focus to the Bagpiper on the balcony, no one new about it because it was a complete surprise, to everyone even the brides parents.  A bag piper led the entire group out to the docked where a video was played that had been created the day of the wedding including the rehearsal dinner, getting ready, the ceremony and bits of the reception.

The bouquets were a combination of jewel tone flowers, herbs, a few unexpected fall accents, and those little purple cabbages that Linda loves. The girls wore cranberry because it’s in. Combining purple, fuchsia, hot pink, and a touch of brown resulted in stunning bouquets for the girls. For Lauren, her bouquet included some very special blooms and herbs from my own garden, like viburnum berry, Japanese anemone, lavender, and rosemary all cut on the morning of the wedding.

The Reception was beautiful.  a combination of cloths were used that had just a hint of shimmer on natural fibers, so it felt right in the space. Layers of flowers, herbs, and champagne grapes were used in the arrangements … hundreds of tapered candles, votives, and floating candles were lit moments before guests entered the room. In the upper lever of the club, we placed narrow tables that over looked the main dining area.  The chandelier in the main dining room is a part of the building and can never be removed, so I close to one hundred glass bubbles with a floating candle in each, were added, then dimmed the bulbs of the chandelier to the same brightness of the candles, everyone loved it.   Table numbers were made out of slices of birch wood, carved the number, and added a little shimmer to them to blend in with the beautiful linens and mercury glass.

Bowery Hotel Wedding by Christian Oth Studio + Lyndsey Hamilton Events

When I hear the words classic New York, this is exactly the type of affair I imagine. A wedding day as glamorous as can be, with a nod to details that will forever be in style and photography so breathtaking, it should be hanging on the walls of a museum. And it’s no wonder because the vendors behind this Bowery Hotel wedding are some of the best in the business.  From the details so perfectly executed by Lyndsey Hamilton Events to the florals lined up in a stunning row by Belle Fleur and the pictures shot by Michael Falco of Christian Oth Studio, this is a guaranteed to be added to your favorites list the second you lay eyes on the full gallery.

From Christian Oth StudioRich in European heritage, Stephanie Sgroe brought a touch of Europe to New York City in a gorgeous affair at the Bowery Hotel. The couple met while interning at Morgan Stanley in Washington DC. She was a junior at George Washington University and he was spending the semester “abroad” through Hobart College. There, in the winter of 2004, marked the beginning of their journey. Frank Trotta, with Brownstone Investments, asked Stephanie, a stylist for Ralph Lauren, to marry him on the Puerto Rican beach March 28, 2011. This New York couple had always planned to have a destination wedding, but after much thought, decided to wed in their beloved City. Much of the bride’s family came from Europe, which led to their decision to wed at The Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral following with a reception at The Bowery Hotel.

Family is an integral part of their lives, evident in carrying on family tradition with bride and groom gifts. Stephanie gave Frank a Longines watch, which his mother did for his father at their wedding. And just as she, Frank continued a tradition that Stephanie’s grandfather started in France and has passed through the generations, giving her a Hermes scarf, along with a bracelet. Stephanie wore her grandmother’s signet ring on her pinky as her “something old,” her stunning Christos dress was “something new,” an antique hairpiece from her best friend was “something borrowed,” and undergarments served as “something blue.” She chose to give her bridesmaids’ monogrammed boxes from Ralph Lauren and Frank gave individual gifts from Kaufmann Mercantile to his groomsmen along with a pair of Ralph Lauren cufflinks to his best man. With family bring a huge part of their lives, it was important to the couple to honor Frank’s father, who passed away in 2006. In the back of their ceremony program, they wrote a dedication in remembrance of him.

“I wanted to give our guests an experience they had never had before,” said the Bride. “The Bowery gave us just that because it is so unlike anything else in the City. The tapestry filled walls and floor to ceiling windows, you feel like you are in the English countryside.” Walls of exposed brick, white linens adorned with greenery, and candelabras wrapped in vines, gave guests the feeling of being in a castle. Hints of Italy shined with invitations printed on the oldest Italian paper and authentic Italian food served for dinner. A surprise everyone enjoyed midway through the night was a gelato bar with flavors of hazelnut, banana, and chocolate. A jazz band played during dinner then guests danced the night away with DJ Johnny Stewart. When Stephanie was asked to describe her day, she said it was her idea of a modern fairy tale; classic and romantic, with a touch of whimsical! “My Dad put it best when describing what we wanted to Meredith Waga from Belle Fleur…’the botanical gardens on fire,” said Stephanie.
