Manhattan Elopement at Eventi Hotel

To know me is to know that I love elopements.  And I mean I love elopements.  There’s just something about jetting away to a cozy locale and saying “I do” with just your closest friends and family that makes my heart happy.  And this gorgeous Manhattan affair captured by Gaspar Photography?  It’s everything you expect an elopement to be: totally elegant, totally intimate and totally pretty.  See it here.

From Gaspar Photography… Patricia who is originally from England had since settled in Florida where she had another chance at love when she met Rick. His outgoing personality mixed with her sweet subtle demeanor made for a perfect match. When they decided to make things official they decided NYC would be the perfect spot! With a few close friends (one being her sister that came all the way from England) they were married on a winter’s afternoon in the gorgeous Eventi Hotel.

We brought the outside in on this chilly day by having the ceremony in the hotel’s heated terrace.

The couple and their friends hit the town enjoying dinner, drinks and a broadway show!

Elegant Wedding Inspiration at Weylin B. Seymour’s

Pure, unadulterated glamour with just a touch of vintage elegance: that’s what we’re calling this gorgeous shoot from the talented team of vendors that happens to includes Facetime BeautyDM Events Planning And DesignCeci New York and Trent Bailey Photography.  That’s a combo that really knows how to deliver the pretty and when set against the stunning Weylin B. Seymour’s, well… amazing.  See it here.

From DM Events Planning and Design… Right over the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn you will find the iconic Williamsburgh Savings Bank. This marvelous gem has been thoughtfully restored from its already grandiose beauty into Weylin B. Seymour’s, a meticulously crafted wedding venue. Each and every nook and cranny has been designed with an eye for detail that makes our hearts flutter, and as you can imagine, as soon as it opened its doors, the wedding community swooned! Weylin B. Seymour’s reminds us of a time filled with opulence, elegance, and style – the inspiration for the photoshoot.

We knew our design needed to be worthy of this extraordinary venue. We started with the basics: tables and chairs and immediately thought of Nuage Designs, whose incredible linens and chair covers are actually anything but basic! With so many textures to choose from, selecting just one can be a challenge, but we felt that a champagne sequin linen would really pop in the space and not conflict with the ornate patterns and colors that fill the main room. We wanted to put a spin on the classic gold candelabra, a trademark of an opulent design, so we carefully curated a collection of mismatched glass candlesticks featuring gold taper candles. The candlesticks were placed within a garland of seeded eucalyptus which formed a runner of greenery down the center of our sequin fabric. While we didn’t want to compete with the colors of the room, we wanted to pay homage to them, so we selected lush blooms of peonies, garden roses, and ranunculus in gemstone shades of ruby and amethyst. Next, we focused on the place settings – we wanted each element to make a statement so we selected bold items such as black patterned china and gold flatware, and paired them with classic gold rimmed glasses. When it comes to stationery, no one does glamour like Ceci New York! The patterns of her designs were a perfect complement to the amazing patterns in the décor of the venue. Our vision would not have been complete without a luxurious desert bar and Nine Cakes created confections that were as beautiful as they were tasty. Dessert bars are all about variety of flavor and style, so to display the two cakes and few dozen small bites we had a blast selecting gold platters, dishes, and trays – some were so beautiful, they now adorn our studio!

As we reviewed our design plans, we reflected on how amazing a glammed up bride would look with all of the elements – our gorgeous tables, the vintage elevator, and the grand fireplace. The bride’s look was crafted by the totally amazing team at Facetime Beauty – not only are these beauty artists talented, but they leave you feeling like a million bucks (just the look we were going for!) If there is someone who loves to capture details as much as we love to create them, it is Trent of Trent Bailey Photography. He absolutely nailed it – we can get lost in all the dreamy photos from this fun filled day of design.

From the Bride… We first crossed paths when we started working together. It was an instant connection. Within just a few short weeks, we both just knew. It helped that we were working together nearly 20 hours a day, seven days a week! Only a few months later we were living together and knew that it would be forever. Kevin had convinced me that we were not going to get engaged yet, because there were a lot of other things going on in their lives. He tricked me. The day after Thanksgiving 2012, we drove together up to Lake Placid Lodge in Lake Placid, New York. We had stayed there a few times earlier and absolutely loved the place. Kevin had originally planned to propose to me in London, but then, forgetting how old he has become, he broke his foot and tore his knee in a “friendly” game of flag football. By the time we made it up to Lake Placid, we could walk, but only just. I would later remark that Kevin was particularly quiet on the ride up. That’s because he had a whole plan in place. We were going to go to a great dinner in the lodge, and then return to the room to roses, champagne and a diamond ring. The only problem is, Kevin has never been good at waiting. And he couldn’t wait any longer. So, right before we went to dinner, Kevin called me over to him and told me that he had one more piece of jewelry for me to wear to dinner, as long as I agreed to something first. Then, down on hobbled knee, he asked me to marry him. Much screaming ensued. Eventually, I stopped hyperventilating and said yes!! To my surprise, Kevin had already set an appointment the following day with the wedding coordinator at the Lodge. By the end of that meeting, we had picked a date and knew we would be married there the following fall. Everything fell into place very quickly after that. I spent an hour and a half one night speaking with our amazing photographer, Tracey Buyce. She recommended the dream team of wedding vendors, which ultimately included John and Will from NuVue and the incomparable David Michael Schmidt from Renaissance Floral. Together with Greta Hovland from the Lodge, they made everything so easy and so perfect. The wedding itself was a three day affair. We brought 90 of our closest family and friends up to the Lodge and treated it like our home. The first few days we embraced the rustic Adirondack spirit of the lodge for celebrations and rehearsal dinners. But, on the day of the wedding, we wanted something different. David Michael Schmidt delivered by transforming the space into a wedding sanctuary. He brought in flowers we thought would be impossible to get at that time of year, and worked his magic in each of the many spaces that we used throughout the night as we moved from ceremony, to cocktails, to dinner and ultimately to dancing with our fantastic live band. All in all, we could not have asked for a better wedding. Our family and friends still rave about the entire experience, and we will have those memories forever. We can’t thank our team enough for making it happen.

Simple and Elegant Bouquet Inspiration + WIUP

Hello, lovelies! Alas, another week has come and gone. But whatever the weekend has waiting, we wanted to leave a good SMP taste in your mouth with some stunning florals from the talented ladies at Flower Girl NYC. Photographer Marjorie Prvl stumbled upon the Lower East Side establishment and, lucky for us, teamed up to create quite the gallery. So go. Be free. And take time to smell (er…look at) the roses.

From Marjorie Prvl Photography… In my search to expand my portfolio, I came across the talented ladies over at Flower Girl NYC and reached out to them. I asked them if they were interested in having me stop by the shop so that I could photograph a few of their bridal arrangements and they happily agreed. Their shop is located in the Lower East Side of New York. They crafted these simple but gorgeous arrangements for me to capture. Enjoy!

Intimate Wedding in the Hamptons at Trumpets

So I don’t even know these two dapper gents, but after spending my morning swooning over their engagement session and my afternoon swooning over their wedding, I’m pretty sure I love them (hope that’s ok guys). Because not only do they have serious style, but I can feel the love pouring out of every gorgeous image from A Guy + A Girl Photography , and that makes me weak in my wedding-loving knees. See more of their stunning day here.

From A Guy + A Girl Photography …Jason + Nick’s intimate wedding was nestled in the beautiful and fabulous Hamptons. Their coordinating suits were custom-made by Brooklyn tailors. Nick’s grandmother baked bowtie cookies, iced with the couples’ wedding colors that were found throughout the wedding weekend. Rebecca Shepherd florals warmed up their waterside ceremony and the cozy indoor reception. Their first dance was a show-stopping number, choreographed by Jason (a broadway industry exec and musical theater-enthusiast), himself and the duo had clearly rehearsed to perfection. It was not only entertaining and impressive, their dance was one of the most memorable moments of the entire celebration.

Upper West Side Engagement Session

This duo is obviously super stylish – you can see that in every last gorgeous image captured by A Guy + A Girl Photography.  But what I really, really, really love about this fabulous NYC e-session is how much fun these two are having bopping around their beautiful neighborhood in the Upper West Side.  It’s a day full of laughter, romance and, well, tree climbing.  See every joyous moment in the full gallery.

From A Guy + A Girl Photography… This handsome Upper West Side duo had style and personality to spare. Their perfectly styled NYC pad was as smart and crisp as the actual Jonathan Adler store. Walking around their neighborhood, stopping for coffee and a quick stroll through Central Park, they kept us cracking up all over the UWS with singing, dancing, laughing and climbing trees.

Summertime Boathouse Wedding in Prospect Park

When both the Bride and Groom work for Etsy, you KNOW their nuptials will be crafted from the heart. Complete with paper goods designed by the B&G themselves, bright bloomage from Poppies & Posies, and a killer dessert spread by One Girl Cookies, this Brooklyn boathouse wedding is everything you’d expert…plus then some. Lindsay Hite of READYLUCK didn’t miss a beat, it’s all sitting pretty right here.

From Ready Luck PhotographyElana & Amit met during their Freshman year of college at New York University. On June 9, 2013, after 14 years of dating, they decided to tie the knot in their hometown of Brooklyn, NY. They were married at the Boathouse in Prospect Park, just a few blocks away from their apartment.

Prospect Park is a particularly special place to Elana & Amit, so they took inspiration from the park and the history of the Boathouse when designing their wedding. Elana, a Designer and Founder of Mélangerie, created all the paper goods for the wedding with hearty production assistance from Amit, also a maker at heart (both Elana and Amit work at Etsy ) Details included handmade paper peonies for each invitation, programs fashioned as “field guides” to reference the Boathouse’s Audobon legacy, and letterpress floral coaster favors (from Sesame Letterpress) that did double duty as place cards thanks to lovely calligraphed tags by Paperfinger.

The ceremony was outdoors, dockside on the boathouse lake, and featured lots of personal touches, like a variation on the traditional Jewish “7 blessings,” each interpreted and read by a family member, and Elana & Amit’s golden retriever Teddy as the “flower boy,” escorted down the aisle by the bride’s brother. The bride & groom were married under a modern, floral chuppa created by Poppies & Posies, and guests shaded themselves from the afternoon sun with peppered parasols and paper fans.

The celebration continued with an family-style lunch at a single long table filling the width of the boathouse. The french doors were open to the patio, letting in the early summer weather and creating a laid back garden party vibe. Peonies were the focus of fabulous floral centerpieces and garlands created by Poppies & Posies, and guests were serenaded to the jazz tunes of Michael Arenella & his Dreamland Orchestra.

Elana & Amit’s favorite meal is dessert, so of course, the day ended with a spread of their favorite cakes and cookies from One Girl Cookies, Four & Twenty Blackbirds and BklynLarder.

Traditional NYC Ballroom Wedding

This, my friends, is the epitome of a classic NYC wedding.  It’s uber-elegance meets uber-sophistication meets everything you dream a traditional Big Apple affair should be.  Think towering blooms from Konstantinos Design, a stunning Sugar Couture cake and a whole world of gorgeous captured by Robert And Kathleen Photographers.  Get lost in all of the lovely (there’s a lot of it) right here.

From Robert and Kathleen Photographers… Elena and Erick don’t do anything halfway. When they started planning their wedding, they knew they wanted it to be elegant. They wanted to give their guests an experience they wouldn’t soon forget. Their traditional Greek Ceremony took place in the Greek Cathedral on the Upper East Side, a sweet romantic ceremony filled with tears and joy. Their reception was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, overlooking Central Park. The room was bathed in light, and decked out with dramatic orchid centerpieces.

The wedding story… The sun streamed through the windows, illuminating Elena’s face as she was laced into her gown. She took a deep breath, trying to take it all in. Immediately before her eyes was an expansive view of Central Park, with a bright blue sky above and people bustling to and fro. But up where she was, nearly 40 stories above it all, it was quiet. She took a few minutes to think, about everything that had led her to this moment and all of the endless possibilities ahead for her with Erick by her side. She had waited to find a man like him, never losing hope that he did in fact exist. She knew almost instantly after she met him that he was perfect for her and, even so, she never ceases to be amazed by just how well they fit together. As she took the steps out of the hotel and headed to the church to meet Erick, she could barely contain her joy.

Erick met her at the front of the church with a smile on his face and a tear in his eye. From the minute he hugged her father and took Elena’s hand, he didn’t let it go. He held it gently, caressing it with his thumb throughout the entire ceremony, offering her the constant reminder that, to him, she is the single most precious thing in the world. As they walked through Central Park together after the ceremony, she leaned into him, knowing that in his arms she has found her happy place. He glanced over at her throughout the day with the look of a man swelling with pride, because he knew that this was the greatest day of his life – and each day that follows will be made that much better now that Elena was his wife.

I like to think that you can tell the true success of a marriage by the level of joy displayed by those closest to the couple – especially their respective fathers. If the fathers are happy, the couple will have a long, successful marriage. That evening, Elena and Erick’s fathers took to the dance floor over and over again, quite literally dancing with joy that their children had found one another. It was beautiful to watch, knowing that the joy Erick and Elena have found with one another has spread to their families. Their wedding day was the first of many celebrations that would bring their two families together. There is a big, bright future ahead for Erick and Elena.

Summer Barn Wedding at Hallockville Farm

This adorable duo nailed it. They crafted a wedding around their laid back personalities and the result is a glowing summer soiree that is oozing with the love. Starting at the fresh palette and carrying right on through to a delish BBQ and a barn dance party (the best kind!), W Studios New York made sure no detail went un-caputed. This gallery is sure to put a little pep in your mid-week step.

From the beautiful Bride… We wanted our wedding to be a representation of who we are as a couple and what we enjoy. We are laid back people who love the North Fork of Long Island and spending time with our family and friends. For these reasons, having a dance party in a barn with delicious BBQ food on 4th of July weekend seemed like a perfect fit, and it was. We tried to use local vendors wherever we could from our centerpieces to the amazing entertainment provided by The Lone Sharks. We asked Meghan’s aunt to perform the ceremony and she did a beautiful job creating a special moment for us and our guests under the beautiful big oak tree. Our guests were able to enjoy a beautiful Summer sunset over the farm as they danced in the barn or socialized in the tent. Our advice would be to not feel pressured into doing anything because it is a wedding and your guests may have certain expectations. Have fun celebrating who you are as a couple and sharing that with your guests and they will be honored to be part of your day.

Colorful Pratt Mansion Wedding

When two people with a true passion for art tie the knot in a colorful Pratt Mansion wedding, the results are amazing.  Especially when that vibrant shindig is a fabulous collaboration between their creative juices and some of New York’s finest vendors.  Think Barbara’s Flower ShopCristal Paredes and Judy Pak all coming together to make some serious magic.  See so much more in the full gallery.

From Judy Pak Photography… This couple met in design school and has been together for nine and a half years.  As one became an Architect, the other became a graphic and motion designer. Therefore it only made sense to design their wedding inspired by their mutual passion, art. The Art of Love – Sablan Wedding had this concept help guide them in selecting and crafting every aspect of the wedding which generated a colorful and light color palette of coral, aqua, and gold.

The ceremony was a collaboration of various musical artists who played live music before and during the ceremony. The ceremony officiant designed a union that was 100% tailored to the couple, a ceremony in which is guests felt that their presence was necessary. The ceremony told the full story of their journey together. Instead of readings they had the best man and maid of honor recite quotes about love from famous artists. Lastly, coming from a diverse cultural background they were able to include a Haitian as well as a Chamorro tradition.

The cocktail hour was actually an exhibit showcasing elements of collaboration, design and graphics that they created with their love. The guest book was a sketch book where guests were encouraged to fill the pages. There was a photo booth station filled with playful cut outs that allowed the guests to have fun and get to know one another.

The centerpieces were a gradient of roses of different colors, held within a gold frame. As aqua colored paint brushes were scattered on the table one can identify which table was theirs by the mini famous painting about love on each table. The couples honeymoon table had two artist manikins embracing each other.

All this happened at the Pratt Mansions with a backdrop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art! “The artist is the person who makes life more interesting or beautiful, more understandable or mysterious, or probably, in the best sense, more wonderful.” -George Bellows

Autumn Barn Wedding in the Hamptons

For those of you who might be craving a rich dose of color, we’ve got just the ticket. An autumn-loving Hamptons wedding with the prettiest shades of navy, orange and red, to be quite specific. It’s a story best told from the lens of Brklyn View Photography with florals by Kim Jon Designs that are sure to take Pinterest by storm. Grab your mug o’ coffee and get settled here for so much more.

From Brklyn View PhotographyWeddings are celebrations of happiness, true love and starting your life together as husband and wife. Maureen and Hank’s gorgeous barn wedding is every bit stunning as it is meaningful. Maureen wore a delicate lace wedding gown which looked as if it was made just for her. Hank had their wedding date sewn into the lapel of his custom tailored suit. The bridesmaids wore their own lace navy dresses and held amazing bouquets of orange, white and blue flowers tied together with a striped grosgrain ribbon. As Maureen’s father walked her down the aisle, Hank’s face says it all, she was absolutely breathtaking. After their ceremony, the couple’s cousins handed out noisemakers to guests so they could make some noise as the newlywed’s left the church.

For the happy couple, they wanted to create a fun, festive and inviting reception for their guests to dance the night away and enjoy delicious food inside Ocean View Barn in Bridgehampton. One of my favorite details inside the barn was the marquee love sign that hung above the bar – so romantic! I am so honored I was able to be part of Maureen and Hank’s wedding day and spent a wonderful evening surrounded by love and happiness. It was truly magical!

Romantic New York City Engagement Session

Lovelies, I adore this e-sesh like no other. The first moment I laid eyes on the drop dead gorgeous imagery from Rebecca Yale Portraits, this love session quickly made it to the top of my favorites list. With sunny New York City as the backdrop, cherry blossoms and tulips galore, and one stylish-as-ever duo, I have a feeling it might sweep you off your feet too. See it all here!

From Rebecca Yale PortraitsChanel and Adam wanted to capture the feeling of New York City in their engagement photos so we picked two spots—the West Village and Central Park during cherry blossom season to get a feeling for all New York City has to offer. We shot on the first truly warm Spring Sunday after a long cold winter and it felt like the whole city was smiling with us. We started out the shoot with a high fashion look paired with the cobblestone streets of the West Village. Chanel paired a very chic peplum dress with a vintage pearl necklace by her namesake, Chanel. The bride and groom then switched to a beautiful cream dress and perfectly tailored suit to complement the cherry blossoms in full bloom up in Central Park. We caught the beautiful rays of light during golden hour as the cherry blossoms cascaded down around them creating a perfect New York moment.

From the beautiful Bride-to-be… New York City is a special place for Adam and I. It’s where we first met, fell in love and will be saying our “I do’s” and marking the beginning of our new life together. For our engagement shoot we wanted two locations, one that is fun and edgy, and the other that is classic and timeless. Having lived in the city for over five years, we knew exactly which areas we wanted for the shoot, the West Village and Central Park. Not only are these places we adore—countless dinner nights and casual strolls in the park—but also places we wanted to capture without any time constraints, just two people enjoying the wonderful city that brought us together.

Lucky for us, we were blessed with a beautiful Spring day, where the sun was out and cherry blossoms were blooming. The photos brought our vision to life, creating a story that shows the love we have for one another in some of the most memorable locations of New York City.

From A Guy and a Girl Photography… Rebecca and Ari are doctors, currently based in Boston, originally from NY. Though they connected just a few years ago, their fathers have been friends (colleagues) for decades. So this romance was quite serendipitous!

Rebecca and Ari are super high energy and total adventure junkies. In addition to a doctor’s schedule (which includes 36-hour shifts) and planning a wedding (a never-ending to-do list), somehow, this duo found time to secretly take dance lessons. Their wedding day’s first dance was a quick tempo, perfectly-executed choreographed number… surprising all of their friends and families. During our initial conversations, their only requests were, “silly, fun pictures on our wedding day… and we LOVE jumping!”

Glamorous Gramercy Park Hotel Wedding

A candlelight-filled reception at the Gramercy Park Hotel just might be my favorite way to celebrate.  All at once totally glamorous and completely intimate, it’s garden party meets traditional in one of NYC’s most storied locations.  Add in some gorgeous paper goods from Hartford Prints!, the perfect stylings of Lovely Day Styling & Events and pretty, pretty captures from Katie Slater Photography and, well… happy Friday, lovelies.  See it here.

From The Bride… We knew from the start we wanted our wedding to be small and intimate — a low-key celebration, so that we could enjoy the moment without feeling overwhelmed or spread too thin. And neither of us wanted to spend months and months planning! We imagined an intimate, elegant dinner with our loved ones, where we could enjoy each other’s company, listen to good music, and share in a delicious meal together. We knew we wanted to get married in New York City, the place we called home for over a decade, and where we met and fell in love. And we wanted a venue with a little city glam, but a cozy, relaxed vibe.

When we walked into the Gramercy Park Hotel at the suggestion of my sister, it was love at first site. I think it may have been the fireplace and aroma of cedar in the lobby that initially won us over, but the entire space was gorgeous. It felt glamorous without being over the top, and the location–next to Gramercy Park–was perfect for a fall wedding.

We ultimately decided to have the wedding on the rooftop terrace at the hotel and worked with the incredible Michelle Condon who helped with everything from the set-up to the menu. Once we had the venue finalized, I realized there were a lot of other details to figure out, but I had no idea where to begin. Lovely Day Styling & Events helped us find amazing vendors that fit our budget and our vision. We wanted the flowers and table scape to have a romantic and organic feel– Jakkelyn Iris Designs nailed it and created the most stunning arrangements. We wanted a photographer who could capture the two of us and our guests in special candid moments, and Katie Slater Photography did a fantastic job. Hartford Prints! designed an invitation suite that was simple and sophisticated with a touch of gold, and Butler’s Pantry (an Etsy find!) created the most lovely calligraphed place cards and outer envelopes. Last but not least, City Sweets made the most delicious gluten-free cake for us!

We had a special day filled with family and close friends, amazing food, a little bit of sparkle, and the soulful romantic sounds of some of our favorite artists like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and Sinatra. We are grateful to the team of talented people who helped make it happen, and who flawlessly handled all the details so we could enjoy the day.

From the Bride… We both enjoy dining out and good food, so we wanted our wedding to feel like a dinner party with the people who matter most. That still ended up being 125 guests, but it felt perfectly intimate, yet big enough to make an unforgettable celebration. We didn’t want to do anything just for the sake of it, so we broke convention and skipped a few traditional wedding details and elements and approached the day in a way that felt authentic to us.

We met on a Sunday and got engaged on a Sunday, so it was only fitting we were married on a Sunday. We were married in our church, where we have a personal relationship with the pastor. Our wedding party consisted of our siblings, with the flower girl being my niece. We asked our two closest friends to be the greeters at the church, as we wanted our guests to be met with who we felt best represented us. We didn’t choose wedding colors. We just went with what looked fantastic, if we do say so ourselves. When it comes to design, we both respond to “less is more” and understated elegance.

The reception location was chosen kind of serendipitously. We were having brunch at Colicchio & Sons one day, and casually noticed a couple coming to look at the space for their wedding. We noted then that it was indeed an awesome space, but left it at that, as we weren’t even engaged at the time. Of course, it came back up, once we were. The restaurant itself was such a compelling space with industrial modern design that we didn’t feel we needed to do much. We kept table decor simple with anemones, dusty miller and brilliant balls in modern vintage metallic vases, succulents for a pop of color and manzanita branches I discovered on the street in the floral district of Manhattan for unexpected texture and some candlelight. Then we filled the tables with awesome food and wine. The cake was simple with a salute to fall, but some of the best cake you’ve ever had thanks to Stephen Collucchi, the pastry chef. Our favors were incredible pumpkin muffins that Colicchio normally hands each guest after their meal. It was the perfect favor with purpose — breakfast the next morning, our favorite meal!

Rustic Farm Wedding

If there is one thing I’ve learned in my years at SMP, it’s that couples as sweet as these two always, always throw amazing weddings.  Weddings that start with an awesome love story (read: the bride’s description below) and end with a rustic meets glam affair filled with fall hued blooms from Catskills Flowers and moment after moment of pure joy captured by McKay Imaging Photography.  See them here.

From McKay Imaging Photography… Gary and Sarah both got ready in a log house down the road from the farm. They had an emotional first look outside the barn and the four of us drove around the property in a golf cart for some amazing bride and groom moments. We later met the bridal party and family for some fun shots, followed by the groom’s tisch ceremony and the Ketubah signing. The weather had been iffy all day and the threat of rain was hanging over us all afternoon, yet miraculously it held off until even after the reception in the barn started. The ceremony was so personal and beautiful that not just the guests cried, but even we had tears in our eyes as we were trying to capture this beautiful couple with the magnificent view of the Catskills all around.  After a lovely cocktail hour in and around a tent, we headed down for a most fun and adventurous party. The bride and groom with their wedding planner did an excellent job with the decorations and even set up a little area for a “photo booth” with hay bales and some old antiques.

From the Bride… Gary and I met while studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. We were both juniors at Syracuse University, but it took a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain for our paths to cross (although he claims he couldn’t take his eyes off of me in a psych class we allegedly took together). I met Gary in the lobby of a hotel that our touring groups were staying in together. He was wearing ripped denim shorts, tube socks, and a shredded, Billy Madison-style sweater. I will never be able to articulate how or why I was drawn to him right away (considering his wardrobe choice alone), but I was. We very quickly realized that our connection was beyond our control and I imagine that is exactly what meeting your soul mate should feel like. We didn’t hesitate to jump right into our relationship and we were so lucky to have the luxury of taking weekend trips all over Europe together. The most memorable of all would be the trip the two of us took to Paris after knowing each other for only a month! Throughout the rest of our college experience together we divulged in our shared appreciation for chinese food, Hall & Oates, spending time with friends and all of the other incredible things that we have in common! After college, we moved in together in New York City (where we’re both from) and continued to grow our lives together. Gary and I knew we would be getting married from day one, but I was definitely surprised when he asked me to marry him at a Hall and Oates concert at the end of 2011, during my favorite song “Sara Smile.”

Even before we got engaged, we knew we wanted a low-key, yet classy barn wedding and Stone Tavern Farm in Roxbury, NY served as the perfect venue for this. One month after we got engaged, after only seeing one potential wedding venue, we booked our venue and set the date: September 21, 2013. We gave ourselves over 18 months to plan the wedding. Gary, being a project manager by day, was very excited to dive into all of the details that go into the planning process and get started with the hiring of vendors. We hired a partial wedding planner, Lydia Castiglia, to help us get in touch with our food vendors and to help with the “day of” organizing and coordinating. We also ended up hiring Lydia to be our florist, as it seemed as if she understood my wants and desires for flowers and an overall look for the wedding from the beginning. We also booked our Photographers, McKay Imaging, very early on as we knew they would be perfect to shoot our special day because we saw their work at Gary’s sister’s wedding earlier in the year and we were blown away.

For 18 months we did our thing, built our website, sent save the dates, ensured guests had rooms booked at least a year in advance (since the area we got married in is becoming increasingly popular for weddings, with limited accommodations), booked our vendors and wrote our vows. Early on, we had asked our collective best friend, Josh, to officiate the wedding. Josh, Gary and I had all become friends while abroad in Madrid and we were inseparable as friends, it only seemed logical to ask him to oversee our betrothal. Finally, 9/21/13 came and it was amazing. Everything looked gorgeous and was perfectly planned, Josh did an incredible job at the ceremony, our DJ’s killed it at the party, and everyone had the time of their lives. The 18 months of planning and 7.5 years of loving Gary all came to fruition with our incredible wedding day and there is nothing I would have changed, including Gary’s wardrobe choices.

West Village & Highline Engagement Session

Judy Pak engagement session is sort of like the best present you’ll receive all week.  Because, really, anything Judy touches it seriously epic, and this sweet West Village + Highline e-session is no different. Two cuties, a charming love story and one fabulous moment after another captured in seriously beautiful images… insert happy sigh here.  Click here for more.

From Judy Pak Photography… While Alex was in New York and Tim in Boston, they were connected by friends, meeting a number of times throughout their college years. When Tim finally moved to NYC, he immediately asked Alex on their first date. They spent an entire gorgeous fall day on the Highline, never running out of things to talk about, and both knew immediately that this was it! Their wedding is taking place in Sun Valley, Idaho, so they wanted to capture their lives in New York in the engagement session. We had a wonderful time shooting around their neighborhood in West Village and the Highline where they had their first date!

Rustic Twin Maple Farm Wedding

Simple and sweet, this darling day is everything you want in a wedding.  Think a breathtaking location, mouth-waterting food and an entire group of awesome friends and family hiking through the gorgeous hills to help you celebrate “I do.”  It’s what we call absolute perfection, with an adorable bride and groom take center stage in all of the prettiness.  See it all captured by Di Bezi Photography right here.

From the Groom… Sonja and I went away on a weekend trip to Hudson, NY, when we first started dating, and stumbled on an open house at a cheese maker on a farm in Ghent, NY. Several years later, after getting engaged during another weekend in Hudson, we arranged to rent the farm and its old barn; it’s called Twin Maple Farm, and the cheese produced there is called Hudson Red (among others). We both envisioned a rustic barn reception with food that draws from the farms and purveyors in the area. Sonja works as marketing and communications director for Alain Ducasse Enterprises, and I’m editor of foodrepublic.com, so food was an important part. We had noted chef Zakary Pellacio (now of the new Fish and Game in Hudson) roast a pig for the rehearsal dinner and he and his team cooked corn, vegetables and more from the late-summer bounty in the Hudson Valley. At the barn reception after the ceremony, which was held high on a hill atop the pasture, we enjoyed locally sourced grass-fed beef, vegetables, salads and more, with wines chosen by a sommelier friend who then worked at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. For desserts, we eschewed cake and went with pies that also featured fruits and berries from the region.

From Di Bezi Photography… I just want to add to the above description by the groom. The weather on the wedding day was a little quirky with gray skies and spots of sunshine so it was difficult to determine whether rain would come or not. The location was breathtaking with vast rolling green hills and cattle grazing. The location was a special one for the couple and getting married outside among the beauty is why they chose the spot. Leading up a long path to the top of a hill were chairs and a table set up for ceremony along with the band, Baby Soda, playing street jazz music. Off to the side at the bottom of the hill was a stark white tent ready for ceremony in case of rain. The caterer, groom and I discussed whether to risk having the ceremony outside or in the tent, seemed such a shame not to be outdoors and from the looks of forecast, rain wasn’t set to arrive until later that evening, so with a little nudge the groom settled for outdoor, and so glad he did. The ceremony and location was breathtaking. The sky dramatic with spots of thick dark clouds dotted with sunshine. The cocktail hour and candid portraits were held outside with rain arriving well into reception. Turned out to be a perfect day for Sonja and Richard.

Bridal Shower Inspiration with a Fresh Pop of Color

Sometimes all it takes is a fresh color palette to completely transform the look and feel of an event. For this bridal shower inspiration, that color palette is a pop of red, blush and a hint of mint . It’s paired with a perfectly modern, perfectly girly affair crafted by Lindsey Brunk + Color Pop Events along with florals by Lindsay Rae Design and images by Brklyn View Photography. Click here for even more.

From Color Pop Events and Lindsey BrunkFrom our very first design meeting, we knew we wanted this bridal shower shoot to be crisp and clean – a refreshing taste of spring after what seemed like an endless winter – and the red, blush, and mint color palette was the ideal way to achieve that. That vision led us to modern, preppy design elements and a citrusy and fruity selection of food and drinks for this bubbly bridal shower that was captured perfectly by brklyn view photography.

Lindsay Rae Design provided the vibrant red centerpieces and white vessels, choosing a selection of red and white anemones, red tulips, blush and white ranunculus, and playful greenery. One of our favorite components of the tablescape was the red seersucker napkins, which provided the perfect complement for the subtly striped mint green runner and the perfect juxtaposition for the Kate Spade polka dot plates.

The entire concept was tied together nicely by the invitations, favor tags, and food and drink tent cards created by Fourteen‐Forty. The design studio also contributed another favorite element: the custom “cheers to an effervescent love” print for the cocktail table. It provided a cheeky backdrop for the signature cocktail.

91 Horatio’s in‐house catering company, The Upper Crust, created a beautiful dessert selection of macaroons, lemon bars, fruit skewers, hollowed out grapefruits and limes with sorbet, and Neapolitan ice cream sandwiches. The Upper Crust also concocted the signature cocktail for the brunch, a grapefruit mimosa with champagne.
