Glamorous Art Deco Inspired Wedding

I’ve seen a lot of gorgeous Art Deco inspired weddings in my day, but never one done quite like this.  And by “quite like this,” I mean a non-stop dance party featuring beautiful blooms from La Fleur Event And Floral Design, a crazy awesome 501 Union setting, champagne towers and golden confetti.  Yes, golden confetti.  Kelly Kollar captured every fabulous moment… and the gallery?  A must-see

From Kelly Kollar Photography… I knew as soon as I met Ava, and heard about her plans to create an Art Deco inspired wedding celebration, that her’s would be a wedding to remember! She didn’t disappoint… from her stunning Zac Posen gown to the champagne towers and glitter confetti drop, Ava and Josh’s wedding was one of the most creative and stylish I’ve seen so far.

From The Bride… For six months, my hairstylist Joey was pushing me to go out with one of his clients. After reluctantly giving in, Josh and I went on our first date in the fall of 2009 at the downstairs wine bar at Peasant in Nolita. We dated on and off, were friends for a few years, and gave it another shot in December of 2011. We were engaged a year and a half later and have spent everyday together since that December night.

As an event producer, my job takes me on site visits from time to time. In July 2013, my boss sent me to the Boom Boom Room at the top of the Standard Hotel on an “emergency” site visit. Little did I know Josh would be there waiting on one knee with our favorite champagne, a bouquet of gardenias (my favorite) and, of course, a ring. Getting engaged in the Boom Boom Room was the perfect place. Josh knew this was one of my favorite rooms in NYC with an incredible view and art deco design. We spent that weekend at the hotel and started planning our wedding.

Most of our friends and family live on the East Coast, so a New York wedding made most sense. We went to look at the Green Building in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. After looking at the space, we were invited to also look at their sister venue, 501 Union, across the street. The space was still under construction and wasn’t slated to open until fall 2013. 501 Union is a beautiful open-air space with modern, yet art deco inspired geometric lighting fixtures with palm tree wallpaper. Once I saw the beams in the outdoor ceremony room, I immediately envisioned a hanging arrangement from the ceiling. We also wanted to create a more intimate environment and loved the idea of a space that could accommodate long farm tables with family style meals to help our guests co-mingle. Although we were in the early stages of our search, I knew this was our venue. I ideally wanted to create a relaxed, chic art deco inspired atmosphere with champagne and lush greenery.

I was never a huge wedding person, but once my time arrived all the details started to matter. There were three non-negotiables for the wedding; I wanted to have a beautiful dress, flowing cocktails, and a full-on dance party. Once I found my dress, I thought it would be a great idea to place champagne towers on the tables. Not only did it fit into my theme, it also played into our intimate “get people together” environment. I sourced tiered lucite towers and had the caterer fill each row with coupes, sporadically alternated between champagne and our signature pink cocktail. The towers were accented with greenery and placed on every other table, allowing for convenient cocktail consumption. As for the dance party, I decided that confetti would bond everyone on the dance floor… and it worked!

Luckily, I had an amazing creative team that enhanced my vision and took it to the next level. My florist, Dawn, handled all bridal party florals and table arrangements. Dawn took the “art deco, Miami chic champagne, drug lord party” theme and ran with it. She conceptualized palm tree centerpieces, along with exquisite, overflowing greenery and florals for the tables. She also hand-selected all the bouquets and created adorable floral halos for the flower girls. Bonika, who specializes in aerial displays, helped craft and strategize the hanging floral pieces for the ceremony room. After numerous visits to the floral market, we combined neutral understated florals with hanging greenery creating an organic, romantic environment. In order to keep the structures fresh and un-wilted, Bonika worked overtime creating four hanging installations the day of. Both Dawn and Bonika executed flawlessly and I couldn’t have been happier with their work.

As for the dance party, our DJ, David Hollands set the tone post-ceremony with an hour of Reggae classics from the 70’s and 80’s, transitioning into a balance of old and new school dance, with the occasional indie track. Once the sun set, the confetti machine became a focal point, as the guests were showered with glitter gold confetti from all directions. Our flower girls were picking confetti off the ground and throwing it in the air making sure no one left uncovered in confetti. It was definitely one of the evening’s highlights.

At the night’s conclusion, guests were given an individual bag of Gimme! coffee as a departing gifts along with a berocca cocktail for the road. Josh and I were both thrilled with how the day turned out. We chose amazing vendors and cannot be thankful enough for their creative energies and execution. It was a perfect day!

From Karen Wise…  Abby and Jon were married late last summer in a gorgeous Hamptons garden setting. The couple focused the wedding around the natural beauty of the private residence’s gardens and Tuscan accents. They were surrounded by an intimate group of their closest family and friends. The bride and groom cared deeply about serving everyone the tastiest local fare (including some of the bride’s childhood favorites) and dancing late into the night to a band playing their favorite music. It was a perfect summer party filled with love, laughter, singing, eating and dancing under a beautiful airy sailcloth tent and the stars.

From The Bride…I have dreamed of the perfect over-the-top New York City Wedding all my life. Since my parents were married in Manhattan 30 years ago, I always knew my home of NYC was the place for me to throw the party of lifetime. In the early planning stages, I wanted to create a formal black tie affair that was classic, decadent and romantic. Although the overall wedding theme was classic and sophisticated, I envisioned the night’s festivities eventually escalating into a Great Gatsby type of extravaganza: incredible music with wild dancing, endless cocktails and culinary delights, and of course a few fun surprises throughout the evening. We were married at St. Thomas of Fifth Avenue. During the ceremony we had over a dozen members of the famous Men’s Choir sing some of our favorite hymns for us; the cathedral space filled with angelic music made the exchange of vows feel incredibly spiritual. I wore a custom couture gown designed by Kim Hicks, a creative genius who brought to life my vision and dream – a modern interpretation of the “Grace Kelly” gown. As they left the church, guests were given white balloons and customized maps of Manhattan. When we exited, crowds of guests (and even hundreds of curious bystanders) lined all of Fifth Avenue to see the spectacle. White rose petals were tossed, and guests cheered and then paraded down midtown Manhattan toward the Harvard Club. You could see the pearl white balloons all down Fifth Avenue. After looking at every major hotel and private club in the city, I loved the Harvard Club because of its exclusivity, history and charm. As an active member and young ambassador of the club, I have always felt that the space is very masculine yet rich in character. I wanted to romanticize and feminize the club by filling the rooms with warm tones of light, white flowers, and personalized touches throughout. “Why have a Manhattan when you can try a Ladyhattan” were the words of encouragement for guests to try something different, the signature drink boasting my nickname – Ladyhattan. Guests entered the dining room with great surprise at the dramatic table décor – customized gold boxes filled with champagne truffles and hand calligraphy menus at each place setting. Guests were further stunned by the presence of a commissioned artist at the front of the dance floor, capturing the scene by painting on a large canvas. My husband and I walked out to the song “Empire State of Mind” and began our first dance. Immediately afterward, we encouraged guests to join us on the dance floor with some rowdier party music and people went crazy – in a good way! At that moment, the celebration had officially commenced and it felt like experiencing the aerial scene from the movie Great Gatsby when people are dancing, drinking and confetti is flying in the air. Later in the evening, I changed into a sexier black-white gown to match the black gowns of my bridesmaids. We entered the ballroom to the song “All the Single Ladies” and guests were given fun custom party glasses. For the grand finale of the three course meal, two different plated desserts were served along with red velvet wedding cake and passed treats on the dance floor including my personal favorite, mini ice cream cones! The projects that I created myself ended up being some of the most raved elements of the evening. On the guest book and card box table, I placed several vintage gold picture frames with old family photographs surrounded by candles. People really enjoyed seeing old pictures of grandparents being married or even posing with President JFK. Another fun table that I created was the Halloween themed candy buffet. Since our wedding was right around the corner from one of my favorite holidays – Halloween – I filled glass jars with orange Halloween candies. Beside the jars, I created custom goody bags that said “Trick or TERIK Treat, thank you for being sweet!” The joke was that our names – Tara/Erik – create the catchphrase TERIK. I am a people person – I love people! So choosing the people I was going to be working with closely for this important life event was an important process. Several of the companies I chose to work with were actually “husband and wife” teams which I absolutely LOVED! My photographers, Ulysses Photography, were the most incredible pair of people I could have ever asked to share every intimate second of the experience with – their kindness, flexibility and passion for what they do is contagious to everyone around them. Our “day of the wedding planner” and photo booth operator were another stellar husband/wife team, as was the videography company we worked with.

Rustic Summer Wedding at Red Maple Vineyard

The Hudson Valley is a hidden gem, perfectly located between Boston and New York City, with a wealth of goodies at your fingertips; gorgeous venues, stunning scenery, close to city life yet removed from the hustle and bustle. And that is why we continually come upon amazingly relaxed, rustic, beautiful weddings, including this one, captured by Sloan Photographers. See why it’s so special right here.

From the Bride… Dan and I have lived in New York City for many years now. After getting engaged last December, we decided on the Hudson Valley area of New York state as it was a perfect in-between location for all of our guests traveling from my hometown of Boston, Dan’s hometown of Scranton, and our current hometown together in New York City. That, and we adore the area and really wanted to go after a laid back/rustic-chic affair for our friends and family.

We stumbled upon Red Maple Vineyard through our venue search and knew it was the place for us upon arrival. The venue has an incredibly warm and kind family running it, and it offered different spaces to entertain our guests throughout the day. Choosing them was one of the best decisions we made. Another great decision was renting a local home for the weekend that was the perfect home-base for our weekend festivities, including the girls getting ready on the wedding day.

I’m an Event Director professionally so chose to plan every inch of our wedding on my own (with the help of Dan!). We thoroughly enjoyed the process and were thrilled with the results. We had a beautiful outdoor ceremony overlooking the Hudson River, a garden-side cocktail hour, a beautiful and enormous tented reception, and a restored barn/winery for the After Party.

There were so many details we planned throughout the day that made it “ours.” Dan and I collected every single bottle and jar (200+!) that the florist used for the flowers, and we collected all of the props and decor elements over the course of our engagement that would be sprinkled throughout the space. At the ceremony we did a lemonade and iced tea stand, popcorn programs, “yay!” flags for celebrating us announced as husband and wife, Avett Brothers and Coldplay for processional music, and our sister-in-law was the officiant of the service. The cocktail hour featured “cheers!” drink flags for the passed drinks, cocktail napkins and table tent cards with our event hashtag “#McDs823” to have our guests help document the day, food inspired by our favorite meals and treats, and rented vintage furniture. The reception incorporated a fun “no-wall” photobooth, “polaroid guestbook”, an amazing farm-to-table meal, dance music by New York’s DJ Prostyle, and a very lucky live-performance by singer Mat Kearney of our first dance “All I Need.” The night was capped off with bourbon and s’mores at the firepit, grilled cheese and french fries, and local donuts for guests to take home as they exited.

My mother passed away when I was younger, and I found ways to incorporate her throughout the day as well. I sewed a piece of her bathrobe into my wedding dress, had a charm on my bouquet of her picture, talked about her during the ceremony service, and my siblings and I sent a gorgeous lantern into the sky at the very end of the night, at which an enormously bright shooting star flew directly across it after reaching its highest point. A perfect end to a perfect day.

Dan and I enjoyed every minute of our wedding because we continued to keep it about us and never stressed the small stuff. We incorporated pieces that will live on in our home (for example the chandelier hung on the ceremony arbor!) for the rest of our lives and be a constant reminder of the love that surrounded us that day. We wish we could do it all over again!

Weylin B. Seymour’s Brooklyn Event Venue

There is something so unique and special about getting married in a venue that has a ton of history. Case in point — Brooklyn’s Weylin B. Seymour’s. This new (but very old) event space located at the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge is located within the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Building which was completed in 1875. After an award-winning restoration that wrapped up in January of 2014, this space is now ready to host some incredible celebrations.

This breathtakingly gorgeous Beaux Arts Classical building was deemed “one of the most monumental spaces surviving in New York from the Post-Civil War era” by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Located just minutes from lower Manhattan, it features a 110-ft dome decorated with a stunning original fresco, hand-cut mosaic marble floors, bank vault with original vault door imported from France in 1872 and so much more. Truthfully, Weylin B. Seymour’s is as much a conversation piece as it is a truly unique historical venue! With room to accommodate up to 350 for a wedding celebration as well as separate spaces for ceremony, cocktails and dinner + dancing, this space is a must-see.

Top it all off with high-end menu and bar packages, a dedicated service staff and custom furniture packages offering color + style options, and you’ve got what wedding dreams are made of. For more info and to start planning your big day at Weylin B. Seymour’s, head over here.

Colorful Tribeca Rooftop Wedding

A stunning Tribeca Rooftop wedding with a vibrant color palette, crazy cool NYC views and an amazing night of non-stop dancing – this one is for you, modern lovers.  Think drop-dead gorgeous details meets bright fuchsia, cobalt blue and purple orchids from Sky Flowers, all captured by W Studios New York in one very pretty gallery.  Join me there for more.

From the Bride… We love socializing and organizing get togethers, so we knew right off the bat that we wanted a big wedding with all of our friends and family there to celebrate. We chose Tribeca Rooftop for our reception venue because of it’s amazing panoramic views and modern city vibe. In keeping with the city theme, each table was named after one of our favorite NYC landmarks and the NYC skyline was a common theme that tied the menus, place cards and invitations together.

The bridesmaids wore unique gowns of their choice in colors of fuchsia, purple, and cobalt blue that matched the cascading orchid centerpieces.

Our band kept the party going through the night with a mix of pop songs and traditional Polish music which was fun and different. We thought we knew what to expect since we planned every detail, but when it all actually came together, it took our breath away. Overall, it was truly an amazing day that was better than we had imagined.

From the Bride… Kuba and I met in medical school. In my first year, I took a medical Spanish class in preparation for a medical trip to Peru. Kuba, then in his second year, was also in that class and the teacher paired us together. Throughout the course of that year I would ask him for study advice and we began taking study breaks together. The first real date we had was decidedly unglamorous; we played Buck Hunter, an addictive arcade game, at a local hole-in-the-wall bar. Medical school can be a rigorous environment but our playful study breaks were the perfect antidote for the stress of a big exam. It has been nearly five years, and we have travelled the world together, practiced medicine alongside one another and fallen in love not only with each other, but with each others’ family as well.

Kuba was born in Poland and grew up in Westchester. I was born and raised in Greenwich Village in NYC. Prior to entering medicine, we both came from artistic, liberal arts backgrounds; I went to Sarah Lawrence College and studied literature and theatre. Kuba was a music major at Connecticut College. We both wound up going into medical fields that allow us utilize an artistic/discerning eye; I am training to be a Dermatologist and Kuba is completing residency in Orthopedic Surgery. My dad likes to say that Kuba and I go together like ‘skin and bones’.

We wanted to have a ‘midsummer night’s dream’ feel to the reception. Two of my favorite words (for both their meaning and sound) are ethereal and diaphanous and I wanted guests to feel that through the lighting and the flowers. We chose Saipua for flowers because their work has an ‘effortless beauty’. Their arrangements look like 18th century French paintings sprung to life. The combination of Saipua’s aesthetic with the grandeur of Cipriani Wall Street’s ballroom, made for a truly magical look.

Whimsy in the Hudson Valley

Nothing makes us happier than seeing a Bride and Groom having an absolute blast on their big day, so this wedding has us smiling from ear to ear. Marissa and Jesse’s Hudson Valley nuptials were not only gorgeous, but oh-so-fun for the couple and their friends and families! Proving, you really can have it all on your big day! Thanks to these snaps from Dave Robbins Photography, we can enjoy every detail right along with them. Take in even more of the loveliness in the full gallery right here!

From Dave Robbins PhotographyWhen Marissa and Jesse first met with event planner Amy Shey Jacobs of Chandelier Events, they said they wanted to find a destination in their beloved Hudson Valley (where they loved to take romantic daytrips) that fulfilled their vision of either rustic charm or modern Brooklyn art gallery–with amazing food, of course. In an instant, there was one venue the came to mind! Fusing all of their wishes and more, Roundhouse at Beacon Falls was a perfect match. A recently revitalized factory complex located on the Fishkill River in hip Hudson River town Beacon, New York, Roundhouse at Beacon offered a high-end modern hotel, Top Chef-worthy cuisine, a breathtaking ceremony location among the waterfalls–and a restored farmhouse-meets-industrial reception space with soaring 30-foot ceilings, exposed brick and massive picture windows overlooking the magnificent sites.

Marissa and Jesse, who had been dating since college days at George Washington University and through Marissa’s days in law school, knew it was the spot for them. They invited 200 guests from their hometowns of New York, Atlanta and Boston for a wedding weekend away over Memorial Day Weekend in Beacon. The nearlyweds and their guests took over the town for three-days of celebration and exploration!

While they offered fun and relaxation throughout the weekend, from a guided tour at the modern art museum, Dia: Beacon to an intimate rehearsal dinner followed by a raucous cocktail party at Sapore Steakhouse in nearby Fishkill; and a post-wedding Sunday brunch at SWIFT restaurant in the Inn at Roundhouse at Beacon Falls, it was the wedding ceremony and reception that took the cake!

The couple, with the guidance of Chandelier Events, enlisted Grayson Handy and Arturo Quintero of Prudence Designs in Manhattan to pull together a beautiful outdoor ceremony, river-side cocktail hour and breathtaking florals in the couple’s favorite color palette — rich purple, bold blues and bright pinks! Guests were greeted with hand-drawn chalkboards, a custom vintage Arnold Palmer bar and a whimsical iron-bike installation with chalkboard arrows pointing to their hometowns and on-site festivities, dreamed up Chandelier Events with Prudence and props from the Hatch Creative Studio Prop Shop! While the food played a key role in the evening for Marissa and Jesse, it was the music played that center-stage for the couple: Tunes, from Jesse’s Girl to Hanson’s MMMBop to Macklemore rocked by The Elements, who had the dance floor pumping ALL NIGHT LONG. Naturally, the bride and groom closed out the night out up on the stage!

From Two of a Kind RentalsThis inspirational shoot took place in the heart of Brooklyn, New York at a quaint venue called 26 Bridge, just steps from cobblestone streets lining it’s perimeters. The renovations to this former metal factory highlight the building’s industrial history, accentuating its original brick walls and expansive wooden floors. We could think of no better place to host this shoot then 26 Bridge!

As a rental company owner, I receive frequent requests from brides who are looking for obscure, over the top, or large-scale decor items to make their big day “pop.” In this inspirational shoot we’ve highlighted multiple ways which decor rentals can top off an event and pull out the individual character of the bride and groom themselves – making their day all about them.

The groom and the best man both wore custom Sene blazers which are composed of lush velvet and burgundy hues which embody this season’s pantone, Marsala. And since you can’t pass on Sene’s wedding party discount for parties of 6 or more guys (where the groom practically gets his for free!), we’ve outfitted our groom in Sene’s custom Noire White Dinner Tuxedo which pairs perfectly to the bride’s romantic, backless Lovely gown.

Our floral-filled garlands, cascading centerpieces and the bride’s bouquet (by Cheeky Details) all shared one uncommon element – the use of fresh Blueberry vines! Our bride’s signature cocktail called “Blushing Beauty” also includes the use of fresh ingredients such as mint, lime and muddled blueberries as well as the featured hors d’oeuvre of the day, the ever popular Smoked duck on sweet potato chip with blueberry-ginger compote – yum!

This natural, artisanal theme ran strong throughout our inspirational shoot starting with the large, over-sized wall flowers scattered on our ceremony backdrop to the rustic wooden pedestals used to showcase farm to table hors d’oeuvres, by Ryan Brown Catering. We also included the use of real wooden votive holders outfitted with tea light candles creating a romantic, candle-lit setting all photographed by Rebecca Yale.

Our bride wore a pedal kissed headband by Hushed Commotion which accented our beautiful, 3-tiered cake by A White Cake. Intricately scripted escort cards and Hudson whiskey tasting menus by, Virginia Lucas Hart, set the stage for our Hudson whiskey bar and sweetheart table. Two of a Kind accents included in this shoot are the “BAR” and ampersand marquee lights, green boxwood topiaries and globes, and chalkboard signs – all joining together to create an inviting, rustic party!

Along with over 80 images from this shoot, all taken by Rebecca Yale, we also asked Joshua Brown to create a brief 2 minute video capturing a full range of movement from the day!

High school sweethearts, partners in crime tying the knot in such a stylish way might just be my achilles heel. And when such a duo ties the knot at a place like Blue Hill At Stone Barns with Erik Ekroth behind the lens, Matthew Robbins working his design magic, Daughter Of Design making sure everything went off without a hitch and Valerie Barnes capturing everything on film – it just doesn’t get better. From The Bride…Getting married at Blue Hill at Stones Barns was a dream. I’ll never forget the day Steve and I took a tour of the property on a sunny September day. We were blown away by the beauty and expansiveness the property; the courtyard was a gorgeous place for an outdoor ceremony, and the high ceilings and stonewalls of the Hay Loft dining room was incomparable to any other place we’d been. We found Blue Hill held the perfect balance of elegance and rustic charm, and was an idyllic backdrop for the autumn wedding we envisioned. And then we heard about the food. Every single person who we spoke to that has eaten at Blue Hill would rave, “That was the best meal of my life.” (We now agree with that sentiment!) Anyone that knows us knows we really love to eat, so this sealed the deal. Blue Hill was perfect!

Steve and I grew up in New Jersey together and began dating in high school at the young ages of 16 and 17. We went to different colleges, and found that while the long distance between Pittsburgh and Connecticut was hard, it ended up strengthening our relationship. Although we dated since we were young, much to our family and friend’s confusion, we did not rush to the altar! We took our time, followed our own hearts and did what made sense for us. The timing of Steve’s proposal felt just felt right. He planned a romantic day at my family’s country house in Connecticut. We cooked dinner together, and sat down afterwards to have a glass of my favorite dessert wine. With Romeo (our dog) sitting nearby Steve told me, “Romeo has been wanting me to ask you something for a long time.” With that he took out the ring and proposed. I was shocked and elated, and apparently, so was Romeo because he began sprinting around the backyard! It was beautiful and memorable, and so US.

The outpouring of love and support is what we remember most from our wedding day. People from so many aspects of our lives gathered together in a fairy tale setting to celebrate our long love, and we felt like the luckiest people in the world. Matthew Robbins Design did an incredible job creating the atmosphere we dreamed of; we loved the vibrant autumn palate that embraced the season without bringing in the typical browns and oranges associated with the fall. We loved the lantern pathways, copper tones, and all the details down to the single stem of blue delphinium that lay on each napkin. The overall warmth and lushness of the design encapsulated our love so well. We will always treasure our wedding day, and are so grateful there are photos and a video to relive the experience whenever we want!

From Valerie BarnesBecause the history of the Barber family at Blue Hill at Stone Barns dates back three generations, I thought shooting some good old fashioned film for Jessica and Steve’s wedding would perfectly capture the spirit of the place and enhance their film. Film gives a texture and look that video can never provide (although they keep trying!). Since Jessica’s aesthetic and mine meshed perfectly, she resoundingly applauded this idea. You will recognize the film by the scenes that show black bars on the top and bottom of the frame.

Central Park + SoHo Engagement Session

This love sesh from Laura Gordon Photography is the perfect mashup of stylish and sweet. It’s a blend of Central Park and SoHo scenery and two accompanying looks to match, and seeing as New York was always on the radar for these two love birds, it’s only fitting that they captured these special moments in the city they met. Head to the full gallery for more!

From the beautiful Bride…Albert grew up in Seattle and I grew up in Michigan. From a young age, both of us wanted to move to the great city, New York. We knew it would be a city of dreams and hopes and it was just that.

By off chance, while the both of us were living and working in New York, we met through friends of friends and hit it off! After only a short 6 months of dating Albert relocated to Baltimore for his job and we continued to date long distance. For a full 3 years he would take every mode of transportation; driving, training, busing, and Citi biking to my apartment. That is, until he popped the question!

We recently relocated to Chicago for work, and it was only fitting that we took our engagement pictures in our favorite date spots in New York. Central Park, is where we would love to picnic and walk around to enjoy the scenery. SoHo, we love for it’s architectural lofts and historical cobble streets.

It truly is a dream come true to meet the one you were designed for. We can’t wait to start our lives together as husband and wife.

Autumn Engagement Session

NYC in the fall is the sort of place that is just meant to be photographed.  So add an adorable, in love duo, a handful of yummy treats and a day frolicking around some amazing backdrops and the result is a whole lot of e-session pretty.  And it’s just how a New York City engagement shoot should be.  See it all captured by Jasmine Lee in the full gallery.

From The Bride… Perry and I knew that we wanted our engagement pictures to be intimate and natural, capturing us in places where we were comfortable and that meant a lot to us.

When we moved to Manhattan from San Francisco a few years ago, we were immediately drawn to our apartment in the beautiful Upper West Side. The gorgeous brownstones, young families, and proximity to Central Park made it feel like home to us and it was an easy decision to use it as a backdrop for our engagement session. As a lover of food, I also wanted to incorporate our favorite foods into the day. Pastries from Dominique Ansel and waffles from Wafels and Dinges are some of our favorite desserts in the city and served well as a mid-session snack. Lastly, Central Park holds a special place in our hearts because we got engaged there last summer during a breakfast picnic in the park. It has locations that are so iconic and recognizable, but also has hidden spots that are so quiet and intimate that it made for the perfect setting for the last part of our session.

We cannot thank Jasmine enough for the amazing engagement pictures that she took that so perfectly captured our love for each other and for our neighborhood and we cannot wait for the wedding!

Elegant Veterans Day Wedding at Brecknock Hall

Every year, Brecknock Hall in Greenport, New York, gifts a deserving military couple with the wedding of their dreams and this year’s award couldn’t have gone to a better pair. Not only did the Bride grow up in Greenport, but had always envisioned her wedding at the gorgeous venue, surrounded by her loved ones. See every smile, kiss and red, white and blue, captured by Caroline Rocchetta, right this way.

From Brecknock Hall… The Veteran’s Day Wedding Giveback is an annual event hosted by Brecknock Hall in Greenport, NY, where one US military couple is awarded the wedding of their dreams. Brecknock Hall and many participating vendors donate their talents, time and services to create a lovely dream wedding that otherwise may not have been possible.

MA2 (EXW) Robert William Lees III and Amy Hughes were selected to be 2014’s lucky couple after an extensive search of many worthy applicants. Robert, a self-described “Navy brat”, son of a Navy Veteran, has served in the Navy for 12 years and has been part of numerous deployments and missions. Amy Hughes grew up in Greenport and as a child was always fascinated by the once-empty Brecknock building. After its restoration, she dreamed of one day being able have her wedding there. A few years ago she moved away from Greenport and relocated to Florida, where she and Robert were introduced. It was love at first sight.

In May 2014, they were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Robert William Lees IV, and as new parents they now had neither the time nor the financial means to plan a wedding. Robert and Amy’s heartwarming application letter told of his wish to give the love of his life the storybook wedding day that she deserved in the town she grew up in, the venue she grew up longing for and with the family she left behind… and the rest is history.

Brecknock Hall is currently accepting applications for their 2015 Veteran’s Wedding Giveback. Please email info@brecknockhall.com for more information.

Intimate NYC Wedding in Fort Tryon Park

In the face of great challenge, love conquers all. Against the backdrop of timeless yet ever-changing New York City, Levi Stolove Photography captured this couple’s beautiful fall ceremony in Fort Tryon Park overlooking the Hudson River. It’s a gorgeous celebration of love: for one another, the city and family. Lose yourself in all the details right here!

From The Grooms…We got engaged in New Orleans immediately following Hurricane Sandy, and I think that really helped to set the tone for us and the wedding. It was all about celebrating our love for each other, the city, and our family. All of these ideas are timeless, so we arrived upon a venue and an aesthetic that we felt would speak to this notion of timelessness. We wanted to capture the classic New York vibe in a way that was almost unexpected and new, in the same way that the city can surprise you. It may be trite, but New York is a city that is so established and historic, yet simultaneously can feel so new and exciting.

Fort Tryon Park is an incredible part of the city that feels unexpected and incredibly historic, with views of the skyline, the Hudson, and brilliant foliage in the fall. We used this to our advantage and pulled together a beautiful ceremony in the park, overlooking the Hudson, and accompanied by our loved ones. All of our friends were so amazingly supportive and we feel so blessed to have had Alina Lundry, an especially caring and wonderful friend, officiate the ceremony. It was all a stunning blur of love and music that would inevitably meander down a path to the warm stone walls of the New Leaf Restaurant, accompanied by wonderfully talented string quartet. The evening was more than we could have ever hoped for, if only because of all the wonderful people in our lives and the love that we all share, we are so blessed.

Rustic Fall Wedding at Red Maple Vineyard

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, fall weddings are magical. You can sense the crispness in the air, Mother Nature is bursting with my favorite colors, and everything starts to feel cozier. Carmen Santorelli captured every bit of that wonderful feeling with this beautiful bash in the Hudson Valley and with these pics – and this stunning Anna Maier gown – I’m left glassy-eyed and content.

From the Bride… When Al and I got engaged, it was our dream to have an autumn wedding. After a good deal of research, we stumbled upon Red Maple Vineyard located in the Hudson Valley; we felt like we uncovered a hidden gem. Al and I both immediately fell in love with the venue and knew it was absolutely perfect. The lush landscape and foliage are gorgeous, and the barn has a unique character of its own, every nook and cranny felt special, all lovingly restored. We knew that it would lend itself spectacularly to the rustic, yet elegant ambiance we were aiming for.

For the overall décor, we wanted to keep the palette autumnal, but in an interesting, almost unexpected way. We chose plums, mauve, antique rose, with a touch of orange and white. Our florist did a spectacular job of capturing this vision, and I found the perfect bridesmaid dress to tie the theme all together. And for the big day, it was incredibly important to us to create a beautiful and memorable moment, and to make all aspects of the wedding personal and thoughtful for our guests. Our dearest friends illustrated and designed our programs, and the whole family worked together to assemble the favor boxes, place cards, and other decorative flourishes we conjured up.

We were blessed to have the loveliest fall day of all. The staff at Red Maple Vineyard seamlessly orchestrated the event, and looked after all our guests so well. The food was also delicious, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about it. Our brilliant photographer captured the celebration so romantically, and our DJ got everyone up on their feet. The soiree came to a fantastic end with a cozy after party complete with a firepit and s’mores! We’ve always been told that your wedding day is the best of your lives – and that day more than exceeded our dreams.

Romantic Botanical Garden Engagement

Without fail, Judy Pak has a way of pulling me right into her imagery and inducing a daydream-like state. And with warmer days right around the corner, this botanical garden love sesh has me hooked. From the Bride-to-be’s sunlit curls to the lush scenic greens dotted with bits of colorful blooms, these moments have me ready to dive head first into spring.

From The Groom…I met Yoonah in the fall of 2011 at a bar for her birthday. I was introduced to her by her younger sister with whom I played in a co-ed flag football team with. The team used to joke about me dating her older sister. Turns out, it wasn’t a joke. We dated for about a month before making it official. I was immediately drawn to her laid back personality, the fact that she always found me funny, and she was beautiful! I knew right away I had to spend the rest of my life with her.

Multi-Cultural Brooklyn Loft Wedding

What do you get when you combine three different cultures, two ceremonies, one creative Bride and a fab Brooklyn loft? One unique celebration, with multi-languages and Jewish, Mandarin and American traditions, with Exquisite Affairs Productions leading the way. Jenny Kim captured it all and this gallery is the new guide for all brave brides blending cultures on their big day.

From the Bride… Jesse and I met at our first job out of college. For the first year, I could always count on him to go on coffee runs with me or to save me a seat at a work event. One Sunday in August, he invited me over to his apartment to have dinner, which he had ‘prepared’ himself. Three months later, during a grocery trip to Westside Market, I would find out that he actually purchased the entire dinner from there and passed the dishes off as his own culinary creations.

He proposed on a Saturday morning with his grandmother’s ring and a big box of Nerds candy, which is one of my favorite candy. We were both in pajamas with bed hair; it was private and it was perfect.

We wanted a venue that would allow us to make our wedding day truly personal, we didn’t want to be limited by a handful of vendors or options. When we first saw the Greenpoint Loft, to be honest, we didn’t know what to make of it. The venue was new to the New York City wedding market; in fact, when we were touring it, they were still polishing the space up for it’s first wedding later that summer so there weren’t even photos of past weddings that we could look at! It was this raw, industrial, and intimate space that had so much potential and since we knew our wedding wouldn’t be a conventional one, we booked it the very next day!

It was very important for us to incorporate our cultures; Jesse wanted to have a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony and I wanted to have a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Also, since most of my family doesn’t speak much English, I wanted to find a Mandarin-speaking rabbi who would be willing to marry us; when I started to look around, I definitely got a lot of laughs before people realized I was serious. After a Google search (yes, a Google search) by Jesse’s mom, we found Rabbi Helen, who not only agreed to marry us, but also challenged us to build the foundation for a Jewish and Chinese home.

Together with Rabbi Helen and our day-of coordinators (Christine and Tara from Exquisite Affairs Productions), we found the perfect balance from the order of events to the actual wedding ceremony itself. Since our wedding day fell on Saturday (Shabbat), instead of starting off with the Jewish wedding ceremony, we had the Chinese tea ceremony first, followed by a cocktail hour, then after sundown we signed the ketubah and got married under the chuppah surrounded by our family and closest friends. To help my family understand the elements of the Jewish wedding ceremony, my brother-in-law helped create a Chinese-version of the wedding program and provided Rabbi Helen with the pinyin translation of a few passages that she would use for the ceremony. It was a sight to behold; after Rabbi Helen finished her first Mandarin section, my side of the aisle gave her a hearty round of applause and there would be applause for every Mandarin section thereafter! I think my favorite part of the ceremony was the seven blessings, which was said in Hebrew by Rabbi Helen, English by Jesse’s brother, and Mandarin, by my sister; it truly symbolized the combination of our cultures and traditions.

No one fully prepares you for the tremendous outpouring of love and celebration on your wedding day; it is as if all of your friends and family came together to give you one gigantic hug. It is overwhelming and humbling. Thinking back now, my favorite memory of our wedding day was that of my mom and her smile throughout the entire day. A few months before our wedding, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a result of chemotherapy, she wasn’t able to attend any of my dress fittings or the bridal shower that my best friends organized. However, on our wedding day, she found an extra burst of energy and every single one of our vendors, from hair and makeup to our florist, went above and beyond to make her feel beautiful and special. In the end, our wedding wasn’t just a celebration of love, it was a celebration of health and of life.

Throughout the wedding planning process, there were definitely moments when I wondered how our guests would react to the order of events or if my dress was too different or if our friends would enjoy the Chinese tea ceremony, the list goes on. My advice for future brides would be to be confident in the vision of your wedding day and enjoy the journey. Looking back, I wouldn’t do a single thing differently because in the end, our wedding day was personally and uniquely ours!

Greek New York City Wedding at Gotham Hall

With the perfect amount of glam, tradition and wonderfully classic style, this insanely gorgeous black tie affair at Gotham Hall is the kind of wedding that will make your jaw drop to your desk. Each image beautifully captured by Brian Dorsey Studios is like a work of art, and you can see them all here.

From The Bride…We first met as teenagers through mutual friends of our parents. Years later we reconnected when we ended up at the same college and later medical school. What started as a friendship led to a romantic relationship that continued to grow over the following years. We both felt that from the first time we met, we were meant to eventually end up together!

Knowing that I had studied abroad in Paris and had fallen in love with the “City of Lights”, Jason planned a surprise long weekend trip for us to return there together. I didn’t even know where we were going until a few hours before the plane departed! On our first night in Paris, we decided to take a leisurely walk after dinner. We found ourselves walking past a spot along the Seine River with a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower in the background. It was raining and the ground was soaking wet but next thing I know, Jason is down on one knee with a ring in his hand! At that exact (unplanned) moment the Eiffel Tower lit up with sparkling lights! It was like something out of a movie. I, of course, said yes.

Our wedding day was as magical as the proposal. We had so much fun planning every detail over the course of a year with an incredible wedding planner and team. I always knew I wanted to be a June bride so the next logical step was to incorporate all the beautiful colors and flowers of June into our theme. We decided to go with blues and purples, as well as white and off-white. We incorporated silver for a touch of sparkle. Our church and reception hall were so beautiful and provided a stunning backdrop. We hoped for the decor to be elegant while still feeling fun and relaxed and I think we accomplished that! Some of our favorite elements of the wedding were our “Me We” logo, our photo booth, the wedding cake, and our amazing after party! All of our guests were raving about the incredible food, the extremely talented musicians and the beautiful decor. If we could go back in time, we wouldn’t change a thing. Our wedding was truly everything we had dreamed of.
