From Two of a Kind RentalsThis inspirational shoot took place in the heart of Brooklyn, New York at a quaint venue called 26 Bridge, just steps from cobblestone streets lining it’s perimeters. The renovations to this former metal factory highlight the building’s industrial history, accentuating its original brick walls and expansive wooden floors. We could think of no better place to host this shoot then 26 Bridge!

As a rental company owner, I receive frequent requests from brides who are looking for obscure, over the top, or large-scale decor items to make their big day “pop.” In this inspirational shoot we’ve highlighted multiple ways which decor rentals can top off an event and pull out the individual character of the bride and groom themselves – making their day all about them.

The groom and the best man both wore custom Sene blazers which are composed of lush velvet and burgundy hues which embody this season’s pantone, Marsala. And since you can’t pass on Sene’s wedding party discount for parties of 6 or more guys (where the groom practically gets his for free!), we’ve outfitted our groom in Sene’s custom Noire White Dinner Tuxedo which pairs perfectly to the bride’s romantic, backless Lovely gown.

Our floral-filled garlands, cascading centerpieces and the bride’s bouquet (by Cheeky Details) all shared one uncommon element – the use of fresh Blueberry vines! Our bride’s signature cocktail called “Blushing Beauty” also includes the use of fresh ingredients such as mint, lime and muddled blueberries as well as the featured hors d’oeuvre of the day, the ever popular Smoked duck on sweet potato chip with blueberry-ginger compote – yum!

This natural, artisanal theme ran strong throughout our inspirational shoot starting with the large, over-sized wall flowers scattered on our ceremony backdrop to the rustic wooden pedestals used to showcase farm to table hors d’oeuvres, by Ryan Brown Catering. We also included the use of real wooden votive holders outfitted with tea light candles creating a romantic, candle-lit setting all photographed by Rebecca Yale.

Our bride wore a pedal kissed headband by Hushed Commotion which accented our beautiful, 3-tiered cake by A White Cake. Intricately scripted escort cards and Hudson whiskey tasting menus by, Virginia Lucas Hart, set the stage for our Hudson whiskey bar and sweetheart table. Two of a Kind accents included in this shoot are the “BAR” and ampersand marquee lights, green boxwood topiaries and globes, and chalkboard signs – all joining together to create an inviting, rustic party!

Along with over 80 images from this shoot, all taken by Rebecca Yale, we also asked Joshua Brown to create a brief 2 minute video capturing a full range of movement from the day!

Multi-Cultural Brooklyn Loft Wedding

What do you get when you combine three different cultures, two ceremonies, one creative Bride and a fab Brooklyn loft? One unique celebration, with multi-languages and Jewish, Mandarin and American traditions, with Exquisite Affairs Productions leading the way. Jenny Kim captured it all and this gallery is the new guide for all brave brides blending cultures on their big day.

From the Bride… Jesse and I met at our first job out of college. For the first year, I could always count on him to go on coffee runs with me or to save me a seat at a work event. One Sunday in August, he invited me over to his apartment to have dinner, which he had ‘prepared’ himself. Three months later, during a grocery trip to Westside Market, I would find out that he actually purchased the entire dinner from there and passed the dishes off as his own culinary creations.

He proposed on a Saturday morning with his grandmother’s ring and a big box of Nerds candy, which is one of my favorite candy. We were both in pajamas with bed hair; it was private and it was perfect.

We wanted a venue that would allow us to make our wedding day truly personal, we didn’t want to be limited by a handful of vendors or options. When we first saw the Greenpoint Loft, to be honest, we didn’t know what to make of it. The venue was new to the New York City wedding market; in fact, when we were touring it, they were still polishing the space up for it’s first wedding later that summer so there weren’t even photos of past weddings that we could look at! It was this raw, industrial, and intimate space that had so much potential and since we knew our wedding wouldn’t be a conventional one, we booked it the very next day!

It was very important for us to incorporate our cultures; Jesse wanted to have a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony and I wanted to have a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Also, since most of my family doesn’t speak much English, I wanted to find a Mandarin-speaking rabbi who would be willing to marry us; when I started to look around, I definitely got a lot of laughs before people realized I was serious. After a Google search (yes, a Google search) by Jesse’s mom, we found Rabbi Helen, who not only agreed to marry us, but also challenged us to build the foundation for a Jewish and Chinese home.

Together with Rabbi Helen and our day-of coordinators (Christine and Tara from Exquisite Affairs Productions), we found the perfect balance from the order of events to the actual wedding ceremony itself. Since our wedding day fell on Saturday (Shabbat), instead of starting off with the Jewish wedding ceremony, we had the Chinese tea ceremony first, followed by a cocktail hour, then after sundown we signed the ketubah and got married under the chuppah surrounded by our family and closest friends. To help my family understand the elements of the Jewish wedding ceremony, my brother-in-law helped create a Chinese-version of the wedding program and provided Rabbi Helen with the pinyin translation of a few passages that she would use for the ceremony. It was a sight to behold; after Rabbi Helen finished her first Mandarin section, my side of the aisle gave her a hearty round of applause and there would be applause for every Mandarin section thereafter! I think my favorite part of the ceremony was the seven blessings, which was said in Hebrew by Rabbi Helen, English by Jesse’s brother, and Mandarin, by my sister; it truly symbolized the combination of our cultures and traditions.

No one fully prepares you for the tremendous outpouring of love and celebration on your wedding day; it is as if all of your friends and family came together to give you one gigantic hug. It is overwhelming and humbling. Thinking back now, my favorite memory of our wedding day was that of my mom and her smile throughout the entire day. A few months before our wedding, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a result of chemotherapy, she wasn’t able to attend any of my dress fittings or the bridal shower that my best friends organized. However, on our wedding day, she found an extra burst of energy and every single one of our vendors, from hair and makeup to our florist, went above and beyond to make her feel beautiful and special. In the end, our wedding wasn’t just a celebration of love, it was a celebration of health and of life.

Throughout the wedding planning process, there were definitely moments when I wondered how our guests would react to the order of events or if my dress was too different or if our friends would enjoy the Chinese tea ceremony, the list goes on. My advice for future brides would be to be confident in the vision of your wedding day and enjoy the journey. Looking back, I wouldn’t do a single thing differently because in the end, our wedding day was personally and uniquely ours!

A Sophisticated & Feminine Small Space in Brooklyn

If you live in New York City, you know that space is well… limited! When we found this gorgeous & bright Brooklyn apartment full of quirky details and unique furniture, we couldn’t wait to share. Of course, we weren’t surprised at all to learn that the occupant of this beautiful apartment was L. Brennan, the Director of International Store Ops for Kate Spade, which explains the modern, feminine design.

As you would expect from the director of international store operations for Kate Spade, Brennan has amazing taste, a penchant for color and a very busy schedule. We paired her with our designer Evan and the duo put their heads together and figured out where to focus the colors and patterns Brennan wanted in her Brooklyn one bedroom.

Brennan revived her existing dining table by painting it green herself (polyurethaned by Evan) and an ABC Home serape footstool is a game-changing living room addition. The design is sophisticated, modern, feminine and stunning!

The bedroom is full of bright, colorful accent pillows mixing patterns, stripes and everything in between!

From HomepolishHomepolish was founded to bring the interior design experience to a larger crowd. We aim to make the experience of design simple, fun and significantly more accessible. We charge a straightforward, hourly rate (and take the commissions, markups and hidden costs out of the equation), we help set you up with professionals who can transform your space regardless of budget. Elegant Brooklyn Winery Wedding

Take some seriously elegant details + lush florals from Foxglove Floral Design Studio and pair them with the industrial awesomeness that is the Brooklyn Winery and you have the recipe for one totally fabulous party.  Now add in a bride that you’ll all wish was your bestie rockin’ a sweet Watters gown from Lovely Bridal and it’s a happy, happy Tuesday with images from Isabelle Selby.  See them here.

From the Bride… In planning our wedding, the thing that I kept coming back to was that I just wanted a kind of “elegant rager”–a beautiful party that was also super fun and really felt personal to the two of us. I think we nailed it!

What I didn’t fully expect was how overwhelmingly emotional and sentimental the day would be — I started crying when Jessica from Foxglove dropped off the (perfect) bouquets while we were getting ready and basically didn’t stop! My two best friends (who introduced Tim and me by giving him a coaster with my name and number written on it) officiated the ceremony so impeccably, and set the fun and personal tone that lasted throughout the night. Tim surprised me by having a few musician friends pop up from the audience to play “All You Need Is Love” for our processional–it was so sweet.

We made replicas of the infamous coaster that served as place cards, and the mirror that functioned as escort cards came off of our living room wall. Brooklyn Winery was the ideal space with the most amazing food and drinks. Our photographer, Isabelle (and her assistant Justin), were such calming and amazing presences throughout the day, and that shows in the gorgeous photos.

My Aunt made the flawless funfetti cake, our guests danced like crazy, and even though the bridesmaids dresses had only been seen together through internet collages, everything was perfect and beautiful.

Most of my planning was virtual and internet-hypothetical; to see it all come together was amazing and rewarding. Looking back, I feel so much gratitude—so many people have said that the day felt so “us”. We’re so happy everyone felt the love (and the party)!

From Michelle Elaine… Having met Sara just six weeks before her wedding day, you can imagine the amount of information needed to ensure the most perfect day! The one piece of information, however, that was very obvious is her love for Tim. I can still remember her opening his gift to her on their wedding day morning. She looked happily shocked and just cried such tears of joy. I have never met such an emotional bride and it was amazing. Their first look was full of sweetness and they have what many people search for – real love.

Their natural styles coordinated so well and the quaint ambiance of the Brooklyn Winery pulled it all together. From “I do” to their first dance, there was so much love and emotion, but the kind where the couple acts as if nobody is watching… or like everybody is watching but they just don’t care!

They are a perfect fit, two peas in a pod and I cannot say any more kind things about Sara, Tim or both of their beautiful families. They were such a pleasure and the team here wishes them many, many years of happiness – which we know they will have!

Ombre Chambray Wedding Inspiration Shoot

Gather around ombre and chambray lovers (I’m pretty sure that includes everyone), because this shoot is packed to the gills with the kind of inspiration that will dance around in your head for days. I mean, can we talk about how stylish those maids look? Perfection. Pile on stunning florals and styling by HANALULU CO., stationery from Katie Fischer Design and one gorgeous cake from Nine Cakes, and it goes without saying – these images from Charlie Juliet are beyond.

From HANALULU CO.: Nothing’s more fun than creating a sweet and whimsical wedding by combining different design elements with a slight twist. We fell hard for all things ombré, for its softness and varying shades of color. And then of course, chambray — denim’s softer cousin — for it’s simple yet modern look.

We knew right off the bat that The Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture was the perfect setting for this pretty ombré + chambray combo. Its lush grounds and the building’s stunning architecture was tied into the wedding invitations, beautifully illustrated and painted by Katie Fischer Design.

Our hearts skipped a beat when we laid eyes on our bride in the gorgeous De Marseille gown from Carol Hannah’s recent collection. It was the perfect fit with our groom’s handsome blue suit and the bridesmaids’ pretty ensemble — a bit of chambray with a splash of sparkle.

We dreamt of a mix of silver and blue accents for the tablescape, and with Octavia & Brown’s help, our vision was brought to life with their fun rentals. Aren’t the sets of blue and white china lovely? The braided chambray runner combined with the heart topiaries, candelabras, and florals create such a charming look.

We wanted to be playful yet elegant, and create an ethereal setting for our amazing photographer, CJ Isaac from Charlie Juliet, to capture!

Romantic Spring Wedding at the Palm House

I’m not supposed to choose favorites, but, honestly, from the moment I laid my eyes on this gorgeous Brooklyn affair, I knew it would forever be that wedding.  The wedding that seamlessly paired breathtaking beauty, an amazing team of vendors (think Judy Pak, Designs By Ahn and Sarah Ritchie) and a crafty + stunning bride to create what can only be described as perfection.  See it all here.

From The Bride… A few years ago I took some recreational flower arranging classes at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and took note of the Palm House, a beautiful glass greenhouse nestled in the garden. A few years later, after Brendan and I got engaged, we visited the Palm House and I fell in love with it again—as a wedding venue! The garden’s romantic, elegant aesthetic and proximity to our home in Brooklyn made it the perfect location for us.

The venue really served as the inspiration for our wedding, and we decided to play up the natural beauty of the setting with a garden theme focused on shades of purple, silver accents, and succulents. I choose a beautiful Mikaella gown that had flower lace details on the bodice and a sheer organza overlay that I thought complemented the organic feel of the venue. Serving as my own wedding planner, I was heavily involved in the design of the wedding, and really enjoyed infusing little personal touches along the way. I did the calligraphy on the invitations and escort cards, assembled all the wedding favors (personalized M&Ms in mini glass jars with leaf tags), and made table numbers (painted wooden numbers on a moss ball) and wedding signage. I enlisted my dad to paint all the props for the photobooth and he totally surprised me with his hidden artistic talent! Designs by Ahn not only made beautiful bouquets and gorgeous arrangements, but also fulfilled my dream of having succulents in silver buckets serve as escort card holders.

Despite a brutally cold winter in New York, and a much delayed spring, magnolias miraculously bloomed the day before our wedding and our wedding day was warm and sunny. I walked down the aisle to “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles, sung by two of my talented bridesmaids. We said our vows beneath the blossoms, with the sun setting behind us, and I reveled in how happy and lucky we were to marry each other in such a beautiful setting, surrounded by the love of our family and friends. Judy Pak did a phenomenal job capturing the day with gorgeous images, and we danced the night away on the packed dance floor, thanks to our outstanding band, the A-Town Band. CharlesSallyCharles, the caterers at the Palm House, not only served up delicious food, but were tireless in ensuring that the day proceeded smoothly. I can’t thank my vendors enough for making our wedding the amazingly fun and memorable day that it was!

Elegant Urban Wedding at 501 Union

I can’t get over how gorgeous these florals look against Brooklyn’s urban backdrop.Their juxtaposition has me hooked and add in the food trucks that this couple had on site and I’m wishing I had received one of these invites. Jessica Schmitt did and captured every bit of elegant urban flair, held at the chic 501 Union. While I might have missed out on the actual day, I’m soaking up every smile and kiss right here.

From Jessica Schmitt Photography… Cathy and Adrian were married on a gorgeous summer day in Brooklyn. They began the day at the Andaz Hotel getting ready with friends and family. Brooklyn’s 501 Union, their reception venue, features art deco lamps, retro palms wallpaper and a skylight over the dance floor.

From the Bride… When Adrian and I started the wedding planning process, we knew we didn’t want a formal, seated dinner. We wanted our reception to be a big party, so we decided to go with a cocktail-style reception, with lots of random seating scattered throughout the venue. We visited tons of wedding venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan, but none of them felt right to us. Then we heard about a new venue opening in our neighborhood – 501 Union. We went to a wedding fair at 501, and fell in love with the venue. It’s such a unique and interesting space, and we knew it would really lend itself to a cocktail-style reception. Plus, we loved the fact that it was in our neighborhood, allowing us to share that part of our lives with our guests.

One of the best things about 501 Union is that food trucks can drive right into the front garden area, so we knew we wanted to have a food truck at some point in our reception. We were already working with a great caterer (Marcey Brownstein), so we decided to use the pizza truck as a fun late-night snack for our guests. There are tons of great food truck options in New York, but pizza is my favorite food so it was a pretty easy choice for me!

5 Year Wedding Anniversary Celebration

As much as I love weddings – and believe me, I do! – it’s what happens after the vows that really fills my heart. I’m talking that let’s-grow-old-together love captured so perfectly in this anniversary party from Rebecca Yale Photography. Wedding pro Pickles And Pies and her beloved celebrated five years of marriage with their nearest and dearest, and the photos are memories they’ll cherish for years and years to come.

From Erin of Pickles and Pies….As someone that has my own business, Pickles and Pies, that does wedding coordination and event styling, I never get to do anything nice for myself when it comes to celebrations. I find that I’m a bit tapped out creatively. But as my 5 year wedding Anniversary with my husband Hunter approached, I knew I didn’t want it to go by without something a little bigger. We have such an amazing support system of friends, and we really felt like this was the year to include people we love in our celebration. We invited friends that were in attendance at our wedding, as well as friends that we have become so close with, that we wish we had known them when we WERE getting married.

It all started with the dress. I had been eying this Adrianna Papell dress for quite some time, and found myself saying things like, “If I only had the occasion to wear that dress”. I think too often we do that about clothes we love. I decided to MAKE the occasion! This entire night was built around this dress.

Hunter and I are total Brooklynites. We love our neighborhood, and it’s the only place we imagined having our party. I contacted The Bedford, and they were fabulous. We knew we wanted a feast for our friends. Something a little over the top. And the folks at The Bedford knocked it out of the park. We dined on cheese and charcuterie, oysters on the half shell, roasted bone marrow, kale ceasar, grilled octopus, whole grilled trout and grilled steak with chimichurri. After seeing the room for our party, I knew what direction I wanted to take the styling. I wanted something sexy. Deep jewel tone flowers that burst on the tables, brass bowls, and brass mismatched candlesticks with long white tapers.

We contacted photographer Rebecca Yale to shoot the event. She perfectly captured us and our day together before dinner. She accompanied us as we strolled through our neighborhood hand in hand. My amazing husband of five years also surprised me with a gorgeous art deco ring from Grace Lee Designs. The champagne and wine flowed throughout the night, and we ended with delicious Chocolate Molten Cake made with Mast Brothers Chocolate, a local favorite. It was the perfect evening that we will cherish always. From this day forward, I choose the dress first, and let it inspire me.

Rustic Summer Brooklyn Wedding

When the Bride works at Elle and the Groom is an avid shoe collector, you expect a certain level of style, and this Brooklyn bash didn’t disappoint. Full of personal touches, bright blooms by Taylor Tomasi Hill, and some very chic guests, this wedding captured the spirit of this adorable couple perfectly, and Kate Ignatowski snapped up every minute, so we too can enjoy the fun of these festivities.

From Kate Ignatowski… When the bride is a brand manager for Elle and the groom is an avid shoe collector, you know the wedding will be styled to perfection. Patrice had thought through every detail, including the getting ready room, which I really appreciated as the photographer. The Wythe Hotel room had enormous windows for dreamy light and the blue wallpaper was the perfect complimentary color for the overall vibe of the wedding. Another detail I loved was the guests’ attire – the ladies were all dressed to the nines in colorful, glittery gowns and guys decked out in the sharpest suits.

From The Bride… Our wedding was a perfect reflection of our life; intimate, full of laughter and all about the details. From the very beginning we knew we wanted a small wedding. We wanted to have a destination wedding but it would have limited the amount of guests so I decided to bring the destination to us instead. When we found MyMoon, it felt like we were transported to an exotic location. This was the place! I couldn’t believe we were just in the middle of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. My entire wedding was inspired by the roots and feel of the venue. MyMoon is very dramatic which meant we did not have to spend much decor. With a tight budget that was very important to us.

Due to the tight budget, I tried to DIY as much as I could but for some things you have to bring in the experts. I had a very specific vision for my florals. I wanted them to be happy, a little wild yet very sophisticated at the same time. That’s harder than it sounds! Luckily, Taylor from TTHBLOOMS actually embodies those things and I gave her free reign to make magic happen.

Traditional Prospect Park Boathouse Wedding

I love honoring tradition, and this richly ornate Prospect Park Boathouse affair does just that. Incorporating subtle cultural motifs like lush coral Amanda Morgan Jacobs bouquets and a textured lace Lian Carlo gown proved to be the perfect blend of urban modernity and tranquil tradition. Brklyn View Photography captured their beautiful love story and you can see it all here.

From the Bride… The highlights of the day were putting my fabulous Lian Carlo wedding dress, meeting my husband to be on the steps of the Brooklyn brownstone and walking down the aisle as a married couple, all three beautifully captured by Jainé and her team.

Richie and I wanted a very richly detailed, ornate and beautiful wedding. Our main themes were coral, my favorite color, and cobalt blue, the color of the sapphire in my engagement ring. However we had a lot of ideas about what we wanted to do with the main colors, and decided we would incorporate textures and cultural motifs that would represent both our backgrounds, places we had traveled to and where we had lived.

I am Nigerian, specifically from the Igbo tribe, were coral and lace have strong traditions. Richie has a Lebanese and Russian heritage, both cultures well known for their intricate and detailed patterning. We tried to bring these elements out in a modern way with our invitations, the bridesmaid dresses and my wedding dress.

We chose to have the wedding ceremony at the beautiful and traditional Eastern Orthodox Church in Boerum Hill Brooklyn. Richie’s parents used to attend the same church when they were younger and it has many memories and connections to Richie’s family. We love how beautifully ornate and warm it was and in the Antiochian Lebanese tradition, with beautifully painted icons, the gorgeous blue and gilded gold vaulted wood ceiling.

After living on Hong Kong Island we realized how much we both love being close to the waterfront and being outdoors so for the reception venue we had both wanted a relaxing outdoor feeling for our guests to enjoy so we chose the boathouse and played up the lakeside picnic atmosphere with the coral/peach colored fruit on white fruit plates that the guests could casually eat, coral napkins and white lace trimmed fans.

Richie has also live in Kentucky and is a charming and traditional man so Richie and the grooms wore coral bow ties and coral socks. The guests received chocolate bourbon balls treats at their tables.

I would say our day was full of contrasts. Even though we both love and respect our culture and heritage and are both very traditional we are equally modern and wanted to give the whole day a soft modern, light aesthetic and well as a rich, heavy traditional one. We wanted to be in the heart of urban Brooklyn like the cities we had live in together (Richie was born in Brooklyn, I was born in Lagos) but at the same time be at the tranquil and romantic, bucolic lakeside. In the end it was a beautiful day.

Industrial Loft Wedding

Industrial loft weddings are my jam. They’re the perfect combo of romantic + sassy, and this gorgeous Brooklyn affair (hello, sweet Greenpoint Loft) is taking it to an entirely new level of awesome. From Cara Leonard PhotographyA beautiful wedding with a mixture of such a variety of elements. Industrial loft, grit and grunge with elegance and beauty. This bride, a fashion designer in NYC, and groom put together the MANY talents they had at hand to create one of the most fabulous weddings I had been to. So many people in their lives came together to create a wedding, that wasn’t just beautiful in terms of aesthetic appeal, but in ways far beyond that. Each person involved in the production of this event was in one way or another a huge part of who they were. The bride, alongside one of her best friends, designed her own wedding gown, they had a family member who was once a florist, a baker friend who provided goodies, and the list goes on and on. This wasn’t a traditional wedding with a list of given vendors, it was much more than that.

Destination Elopement in Brooklyn

This UK couple is out to prove that great style can be achieved no matter how small-scale the affair. Opting for a destination elopement, they designed a simple ceremony for two in Brooklyn Bridge Park with Mirelle Carmichael along to document the day. And in a Laure De Sagazan and Designs By Ahn bouquet, the glowing bride managed to steal the show, nonetheless. See more here!

From The Bride…Neil and I met over 12 years ago so it came as a complete shock when he got down on one knee and proposed. I thought we were fine, we didn’t need to, we were happy just as we were. But then he asked, and I was elated… if a little overwhelmed!

Some girls have their wedding day all mapped out. I was not this girl. Both of us struggled to define exactly what we wanted our wedding day to be. The only thing we were very clear on was that, for us, marriage was a commitment between two people. I like you and you like me. We wanted the wedding to reflect this and so we decided to elope and go it alone (much to the disappointment of friends and family!). Above all, we wanted our marriage to be an adventure…and so we decided to start with one.

We chose New York because we both love the city and everything it has to offer. Many brides want a beautiful backdrop for their wedding. Ours was the urban landscape of New York which, for us, holds a beauty all of its own. A cityscape may not be every brides dream but it made our wedding day feel real rather than a fairytale.

Neither of us wanted the day to be stressful which might sound at odds when I tell you we are both from the UK. But it could not have been simpler. We found a lovely officiant, an amazing photographer and picked a date. We were all set. We flew over a few days before and picked up the license from city hall. The beauty of eloping to New York is that you can get married just about anywhere (unlike the UK) so we decided to choose somewhere together once we got to New York, rather than a ‘wedding package’.

We got married down by the Hudson in Brooklyn Bridge Park because it offers beautiful views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge, before jumping a cab to the High Line for photos. The people of New York could not have been lovelier, stopping to ask us if this was a ‘real wedding or a photo shoot’…so much fun! We finished the day watching the sunset over the city on the rooftop of the Standard, listening to jazz and drinking cocktails before heading back to the Nomad Hotel for dinner. The twinkly lights of New York offered our perfect backdrop.

Our family and friends forgave us (I think!) and we held a celebratory reception at one of our favourite restaurants back home. Again, very simple. In our eyes we had the best of both worlds, we got to share our wedding day together and also with our nearest and dearest. Perfect.

So whilst it isn’t for everybody, we wouldn’t change a thing.

From the Bride… James and I met in New York in December 2010, just 5 months after he moved to the city from Sydney, Australia. From the moment we got engaged in London last fall, we knew we wanted a Brooklyn wedding that would feel true to our roots, our Jewish background and our style.

We were thrilled to find 501 Union, a venue that had just opened in Gowanus mere blocks from our apartment. We loved every detail, from the massive skylight and modern chandeliers to the frosted glass doors and marble bar top – not to mention the vintage car out front from the venue’s first life as a classic car repair shop! The space felt elegant and timeless. All we needed to add were our personal touches – photos of our grandparents from their weddings, vintage playing cards for table numbers and antique-style keys attached to handwritten placecards by Elizabeth Castro. Of course, the look would not have been complete without the bright and gorgeous floral arrangements by Rhonda at August Sage and Violet!

We were married by our friend and Rabbi, Levi Shmotkin, in a traditional Jewish ceremony under a chuppah that James constructed by hand. We were able to include our friends and family, many of whom had traveled from as far as Sydney, in our ceremony as they read aloud our marriage blessings. I was so happy to be married with the same ring my grandma received at her wedding in Brooklyn nearly 70 years earlier.

James’ friends and family from Australia started off the party with a hora that I’m pretty sure most guests will never forget and we danced late into the night with great music from our Brooklyn-based DJ, Play Something Good. Our caterer, Heavenly Events, wowed us with the food, especially the wedding pies that we had in place of a traditional wedding cake. Every last detail was seamlessly executed by our planner, Jove Meyer – I loved that I did not have to worry about a thing and was truly able to enjoy my wedding with my husband! I am in awe when I relive the day through photos by the incredibly talented Rebecca Yale, who captured the love and joy of small moments so effortlessly.

Whimsical Brooklyn Wedding at the Wythe Hotel

I’ve come to find that New York City weddings are in a league all their own. They push the envelope of pretty and take city chic style to a whole new level. Exhibit A: this Wythe Hotel lovefest beautifully designed by DM Events. They brought the couple’s quirky-yet-classic vision to life, and Elizabeth And Rich alongside Love + Brain Films captured every last bit.

From DM Events Planning & DesignWhen you are designing a wedding with details as gorgeous as your bride and as fun as your groom, you have a pretty easy job! That was definitely the case with Sara + Seth who said their I-do’s at the Wythe Hotel. We channeled Sara’s beauty in the centerpieces and placesettings – soft florals in hues of peach and pink anchored the table, and crystal glassware and mercury vases and votives completed a classic, romantic look. Seth’s rockstar personality was layered in using uber fun placemats, a naked milk bar cake and hilarious signage thought the reception. But Sara is quite a rockstar herself, rocking glam silver high top sneakers and changing into her second look, an adorable white romper. Love and laughs filled the evening starting with a stunning etched chuppah and ending with every partygoers dream: a grilled cheese food truck! We don’t think these two stopped smiling all night, and that is what it is all about!

Romantic Wedding at the Brooklyn Winery

Rustic, romantic, and full of sweet personal details were three things this couple wanted on their wedding day, and in my humble opinion, they nailed it. Brooklyn Winery proved to be the perfect setting and Lindsay Madden was there to catch every stop along the way (including a pizza parlor!). Get cozy and take a spin through the stunning affair for yourself.

From Lindsay Madden PhotographyBrooklyn weddings always make me happy! They truly have a coolness factor that is always off the charts. I have been wanting to photograph at the Brooklyn Winery for quite some time and it was definitely meant to be when my high school friend Mike {aka the groom} reached out to me to see if I was interested in capturing his special day with his beautiful bride, Courtney.

Courtney and Mike were married on July 5th in front of their closet family and friends. The weather was beautiful and the city was quiet. Courtney and Mike envisioned their wedding day to be rustic, romantic and filled with sweet personal details. Brooklyn Winery was the perfect location to bring their vision to life. This venue was very organic with long wooden farm tables and succulents that ran up the walls. Large windows provided the ceremony and reception room with gorgeous natural light. Courtney started her day at their apartment where she was surrounded by her lovely bridesmaids, mom and grandmother. Rubi Jones worked her magic on Courtney’s hair and Jackie Schneider amplified Courtney’s beauty with a natural make up look. Courtney looked radiant in her Sarah Seven dress and I especially loved her pale blue Rachel Simpson shoes. She also accessorized her dress with a stunning piece by Twigs and Honey. Courtney’s bridesmaids wore navy, swiss dot J. Crew dresses and their whole look was tied together with lavender colored roses and white dahlias created by Opalia Flowers. Courtney and Mike opted for a first look and they really wanted to walk around their neighborhood for their portraits. My favorite part of their portraits was when they took me to their favorite pizza place in Williamsburg called Best Pizza. They were hungry and being the ultra cool couple that they are, they decided to share a slice.

After Courtney and Mike’s heartfelt ceremony, guests enjoyed a delicious sit down dinner. The reception decor complimented the venue perfectly. Candelabras and teal colored mason jars filled with baby’s breath lined the tables. I especially loved the whimsical feel of each dinner plate and Courtney & Mike’s cake was a naked cake designed by Momofuku. After dinner, the dance floor opened up and guests danced to the wonderful music of The National Reserve. The energy on the dance floor was infectious and everyone had such an incredible time. I absolutely loved capturing Courtney and Mike’s stunning affair!

Cozy Winter Wedding at Liberty Warehouse

With the temps dropping to chilly (read: nearly freezing) levels in New England this morning, a cozy wedding like this glowing Liberty Warehouse fete from Tory Williams is just what we need to warm up a little and get this week started right. And it’s quaint New York romance in every sense… brick walls paired with fur throws, Moscow Mules in hand, twinkling lights strung about and an after party at Brooklyn Brewery. It all makes for a gorgeously inviting gallery.

From the beautiful Bride…Both Rob and I fell in the love with the Liberty Warehouse the moment we walked in. It is such a great raw space with some beautiful, thoughtful touches that make it a very special venue. We really wanted a winter wedding in New York and the Liberty Warehouse gave us an indoor setting with amazing views of the city. The space was big enough to accommodate both ceremony and reception in separate areas (upstairs and downstairs, respectively) and gave guests new spaces to discover.

The ceremony was pretty traditional and we choose officants significant to both our families to perform it. The Statue of Liberty provided the perfect backdrop to the ceremony as the sun set over the river. After the ceremony, guests were invited downstairs to cocktail hour in the bridge room, where they were served our signature cocktail of a Moscow Mule. We wanted the space to keep its industrial feel but also have a soft romantic feel and used beautiful flowers by Brrch with vintage postcards that served as a guest book to do so. The colors were whites with hints of pale pink highlighted by the warm glow of candlelight. We created a cozy lounge around the giant brick fireplace in the center of the space complete with fur throws and a hide rug.

Guests were then invited into the reception area where every table was named after a city Rob and I had visited or lived together (London was the rowdiest!) The centerpieces were all slightly different with whites, reds and pale pinks, most featuring my favorite anemones. We hung bistro lights from the ceiling to give the space a more intimate feel and a bistro glow. After dinner, guests enjoyed “Steve’s Key Lime Pies” and “Baked” cookies and desserts, both local Brooklyn purveyors. Guests danced to the amazing tunes of the East Coast Band and no one wanted the party to end! As the band began to wind down, guests found their way next door to the Brooklyn Brewery for an after party complete with glow sticks, fake mustaches, pizza and late night snacks and of course, a DJ.

Spring Brooklyn Loft Wedding

I’m not sure how he does it, but Virgil Bunao always finds the coolest clients. Couples like this Brooklyn duo who planned an intimate warehouse wedding with city views for days. It’s a celebration that’ll steal your heart from the very first second (have you seen that Marchesa gown?) and lucky for us, the fun is just getting started.

From Virgil BunaoI was called upon by Anne and Jason as their wedding photographer for their Brooklyn wedding, and I couldn’t believe how impressed I was by the entire day. It was such a personal day, a smaller wedding, but filled with heaps of emotion and love. The Liberty Warehouse was a great space, perfect for Anne and Jason’s styles and they the decor was just as beautiful. They brought the Brooklyn spring on the inside with fresh blooms in nature-colored vases and crisp white blossoms in rustic containers and twirled around on their chuppah. Striving to keep it simple but timeless, they certainly succeeded at this.

Anne was radiant in her Marchesa dress and she rocked it all night. I had a field day taking pictures of her in it; the details on the dress itself are amazing and she was a constant vision in it, from the moment she put it on to the last minutes of the reception. Jason was a man in love and a smile plastered on his face at all times. With his Paul Stuart suit, this dynamic duo complemented each other so well, looking like the classic bride and groom, and a husband and wife ready to embark on this awesome journey.

Laid Back Brooklyn Engagement Session

Have I told you how much I love engagements? If I haven’t, well, I looove them. And I adore this one from Untamed Heart Photography. I adore the couple, their curious pup named Scarlett, and the three’s little stroll through the city. It reminds me of a lazy weekend, just exploring, hand holding and living in the moment. It’s the kind of gallery that will leave you with a faint, swoon-y grin—see it here.

From Untamed Heart PhotographyKatie is from St. Louis and Mark is from England, but in a stroke of fate, fell in love in New York City where they both live with their darling pup Scarlett. So even though their wedding is in St. Louis, an engagement in Brooklyn, was a must. We didn’t let the glum day or blistery winds come between us and a really fun time!

Colorful Brooklyn Engagement Session

This love sesh from Betsi Ewing Studio is a recipe for Monday morning happiness. Splashed with a colorful Brooklyn backdrop and fabulous Manolo Blahnik‘s to match, it’s no surprise this painter Bride and her Groom are getting hitched in New Orleans. Until then, we can soak up all the fun right here!

From the beautiful Bride-to-be…It’s a long love story in the making. I’m a cajun lady from Lafayette, Louisiana and he is a midwestern cheesehead from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We met almost 10 years ago at freshman orientation at Savannah College of Art & Design. Many years, cities, and a furry Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Oliver later, we are now engaged! We live in Chicago at the moment and Peter surprised me and flew us back to one of our favorite places (and former home) Williamsburg, Brooklyn to pop the question. It was a magical night with great friends, family, sparkling rosé, & whiskey at Fada, followed by fun at the trendy Wythe Hotel. All of our favorite things!

We are tying the knot in New Orleans, Louisiana at the New Orleans Museum of Art. The ceremony will be under age old oak trees and surrounded by amazing artwork. I am a painter myself (LIZFLORES.COM) It couldn’t be more perfect for us! We are excited to start a new chapter in our lives that will definitely involve laughter, love and if I get my way – more puppies!

I’ll be walking down the aisle in an Anna Campbell gown from lovely bride NY. My shoes are Manolos from Bergdorf Goodman’s which is sentimental to me because I was a part of the window display team before our recent move to Chicago.
