A Citrus Colored Summer Wedding in Kansas City

There’s just something about a summer wedding with a citrus color palette. After having to postpone their wedding due to the pandemic, our couple decided rather than passing up on their original design plans- they would pivot! With the help of Rebecca Rose Events they added punchy pops of watermelon to embrace the new summer date, and the result is just as fun and fresh as you would imagine. You can feel the joy and happiness of the day in the incredible imagery by Mike Cassimatis of MNC Photography, head over the full gallery for a sweet taste of summer.

From Rebecca Rose EventsAfter the pandemic pushed the original wedding date to the fourth of July, we decided that instead of leaving the previously chosen color palette and design aesthetic behind, we would enhance it by adding a punch of watermelon to the mix. July is the perfect month for red sweet peas and coral godetia – two cheerful blooms that helped us transform the palette but keep the integrity of the design we began so many months before.

With a few other subtle changes, such as the addition of tray-passed watermelon lemonade at cocktail hour, and lawn games fit for a proper summer shindig, Annie and Chris’ wedding day captured the essence of July in all the right ways.

It was particularly important to Annie and Chris that they include a handwritten thank you note for each and every guest, so we personalized an envelope for each place setting that served as a place card and included a handwritten note on custom stationery. It was a true labor of love for Annie and Chris to finish all of the notes before the wedding day, but their extra efforts added such a heartfelt touch of hospitality for their guests!

From Creative FilmsWe got to know Sarah and Mike a few weeks before their wedding when we shot a sweet little Love Story interview for them to share with their guests on their wedding day. I immediately fell in love with both of them (and their puppydogs). Flash forward to the wedding day and it couldn’t have been more perfect. They had the most amazing team of creative Kansas City wedding professionals and their day was one of the prettiest we have had the honor to be part of this season. Even more special was to see how much they enjoyed watching their family and friends enjoy the day and the sweet looks they stole to each other all night long.

From the Bride… Both Mike and myself could not have been more happy on our wedding day. From day one, we had a vision for the theme, feel, and overall flow of our wedding ceremony and reception for not only ourselves, but more importantly, for all of our loved ones to share in. Our fantastic vendors were able to take exactly what we wanted and bring it to life more perfectly that we could have imagined. From the moment we both awoke the morning of our wedding, there was such a sense of peace and calm that overcame us both and that feeling lasted through the entire day and evening. There was nowhere else on earth we could have imagined being, and one moment that I myself will never forget was when myself and Mike were able to discreetly sneak a peek upon all of our guests, from a balcony vantage point, at our pre ceremony wine and bourbon tasting cocktail hour. What we saw brought tears to our eyes; beautiful music by The Blackbird Revue engulfing the stunning Tudor Room of the Brass on Baltimore…our guests loudly laughing and conversing with such great enthusiasm and cheer. Hand in hand we looked in each other’s eyes and it was further confirmed to us that making the choice to marry one another was the absolute best decision either of us would make in this lifetime!

More Exclusive Photos of Nikki Ferrell + Tyler VanLoo’s Wedding Day

There’s not a doubt in my mind that Nikki and Tyler are the real deal. They’ve got a love that beams through every single photo Alea Lovely snaps, from their stunning engagement session to part one of their wedding day. And while their ballroom reception was designed to a T by Madison Sanders Events, it was moments like these that really stole the show. Cheers to the newlyweds, and the adventure ahead!

“The reception was beautiful and we danced the night away…

It truly was magical, yet over way too quickly.”

-Nikki

From Madison of Madison Sanders EventsNikki came to me around 6 months out from her wedding. At this time, she had selected both the ceremony and reception venues and had a general vision for the day. I was able to assist Nikki in pulling together the pieces that would bring that vision to life. We worked with her and her vendors to bring in elements that would give an elegant and romantic feel to the day.

Our main goal was that the day would be a strong representation of both she and Tyler’s tastes. This meant incorporating feminine, fun details while also keeping our design classic and traditional. One of my favorite parts of the design was the pop of “marsala” that she decided to incorporate into her floral in the final month. As we discussed the seasonality of her event, we realized that this beautiful hue would add depth to her design and would tie in some of the rich tones already present in Kansas City’s fall season.

Nikki devotes a lot of her time to her work and to her patients and because of this, did not have a lot of time to spend planning the wedding. It was so exciting for her to be able to arrive on site the day of the wedding without a worry and for her to enjoy each detail we had planned. I am so grateful for her trust in us to bring her dreams to life and wish the VanLoos all the best as they begin their marriage!

The Bachelor’s Nikki Ferrell Shares Her Must-See Wedding Album

We first fell in love with Nikki when she received the final rose on Juan Pablo’s season of The Bachelor. And while their relationship didn’t end in a TV wedding, she went on to find her forever love, Tyler VanLoo. Of course, Nikki needed bridesmaid and fellow Bachelor alum, Andi Dorfman by her side on the big day and Alea Lovely was there to capture every second. We’re only just getting started, so stay put for part two of Nikki and Tyler’s Kansas City nuptials up next.

“This may still be some post wedding nostalgia speaking,

but I am happy to say I have found my Prince Charming.

-Nikki

Nikki + Tyler’s Wedding Part II Up Next!

From the Bride, Nikki… I feel like as a girl most of us have spent our childhoods dreaming of our wedding day. We all have dreamt of our Prince Charming sweeping us off our feet and riding away into the sunset. As we grow up we soon come to realize not every boy is a prince, and there’s a good possibility we might have to kiss a lot of frogs first. This may still be some post wedding nostalgia speaking but I am happy to say I have found my Prince Charming.

My wedding was something straight out of a fairytale. The weather was perfect, there were butterflies filling my stomach with anticipation, and I was surrounded by my best friends and family members from all over the country. My heart was bursting with happiness even more so than I anticipated.

One of my favorite moments from the day was when I was waiting in the church library before heading to the sanctuary. I stepped outside in the playground and just took a moment by myself to really take everything in. I listened to the birds, watched the cars go by, and felt the sunshine on my face. My Dad soon poked his head out and with a big smile said “You ready to go sweetheart?” This was it. I was getting married! All the heartbreak and douchebags from the past were tucked somewhere far far away in the back of my mind in the “learned from this mistake folder”. I was overjoyed at the reality of marrying my best friend in a matter of minutes.

My Dad walked me slowly to the sanctuary. I could hear the piano version of Taylor Swift’s “Lovestory” as my bridal party made their way to the front of the church. The flower girls and ring bearer soon followed after and the ushers then shut the doors. It was just my Dad and I for a few moments. I will forever remember those moments. I was nervous but so sure that I was making the best decision of my life. When they opened the doors I felt as if I were floating down the aisle. It was really happening.

I’d love to say that I remember everything during the ceremony but I don’t. I was nervous, concentrating on not locking my knees, and trying not to mess up my vows. My brother was the co-officiant and led Tyler and I through our vows which we wrote ourselves. (Best decision ever! Do it if you get the chance.) We were soon pronounced husband and wife! My face was beaming with this goofy perma-smile that would be plastered there for the rest of the evening.

The reception was beautiful and we danced the night away with our friends and family. It truly was magical yet over way too quickly.

This week I have been reflecting on all the people who helped make all of it possible. Madison Sanders, the best wedding planner ever. She was so patient with me when my indecisive introverted self-made things not so easy. I am forever in debt to her. Alea Lovely, my photographer, the magic maker. The one whom I planned my entire date around her availability. She captures emotion with a single photograph and I couldn’t imagine having anyone else there to photograph the best day of my life.

Adam Hanly, my videographer, he was such a kind calming presence that day in the midst of the chaos of nerves. I cannot wait to see how he captured our story. And Heidi Bowles, my hair and makeup wonder girl. I never like my hair or makeup when I get it done and she made me feel like a goddess! I can only imagine that’s how Kim K feels on the daily. Haha. And Lindsay Marie for my gorgeous custom hair piece and earrings. If you are looking for some classy wedding bling this girl is unbeatable! Love Ophelia, for providing me with the cutest robes for my bridesmaids to get glammed up in. Trust me, your bridal party will thank you for these. And La Gartier for providing me with the custom garters. She even used my mom’s veil to incorporate into these special pieces! I couldn’t have done it without all of these people.

Thank you for letting me share my fairytale with all of you!

xoxo, Nikki

Rustic + Whimsical Kansas Wedding

There is something seriously sweet about a hometown wedding, and this next slice of pretty is no exception. With a ranch inspired setting graced with rustic touches, this darling duo exchanged vows in one sentimental ceremony. Adrienne Maples & Ashlee Brewer were behind the lens capturing it all, and you can see the entire day unfold here!

From the beautiful Bride… I was never the girl who dreamed of her wedding day and thought about the dress and the flowers and any of that stuff. I actually suggested maybe doing something small, but it turns out that the man I was marrying was the little boy that dreamed of his wedding day. And I am so glad he was because after it was all said and done it was the best weekend of our lives and I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way!

Hayden and I live in Brazil but we decided to have the wedding in my hometown of Lawrence, Kansas. Hayden grew up near Boston and we had friends and family coming from all over the place, many of which had never been to the Midwest before. Because of this I felt it was important to show the charm of my hometown, we didn’t want to show our guests who were traveling all this way, the inside of a hotel ballroom. We wanted them to see the beauty of Kansas.

The Circle S Ranch provided the perfect location. The ranch is located about 15 minutes outside of Lawrence on hundreds of acres with longhorns and buffalo roaming the pastures. They have a 12 suite Inn where our wedding party stayed for the weekend. Our main objective was to have a blast with our friends and family and get to spend quality time with those we love but don’t get to see so often. Another reason we chose the ranch is we were able to rent the entire place for the weekend so we could do whatever we wanted, as late as we wanted. The band played at the reception until 1am and then we moved the party over to the Inn and had a bonfire, music and late night snacks.

Living so far away was a little tough for the planning. I am a very creative person and I wanted to do as much as I could to add little unique touches to the wedding day. My parents helped a ton and made the personalized mason jars, collected old bottles and jars for flower and candle displays. My mom designed all the programs, invitations and made all the burlap table runners. We had a photo booth instead of a guestbook for people to leave a note with fun photos, we hand wrote all the tags for seating and hung them on an old door, handmade a fabric flower for the flower girl dress, made pinwheels for the wedding cake topper from old vintage maps, lots of little Pinterest-esque things like that.

The day of the wedding was hot, like mid 90s Kansas summer hot. The ceremony was outside in a beautiful grove of trees about 100 yards from the Inn and was to start at 7pm. Around 4:30 a huge thunderstorm came rolling in, which sounds like a disaster but turned out to be a huge blessing in disguise. The rain lasted until about 6:15 and it cooled everything down to a very nice mid 70’s. The staff quickly ran down and wiped off the chairs and everything was ready to go. The guys wore matching blue suits with coral ties and the girls wore a short coral dress of their choice. The ceremony was lovely with a friend of ours singing “somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world” as we walked down the aisle and buffalo were mooing throughout the ceremony.

Immediately after the ceremony while the guests enjoyed cocktails, our photographer scooped us up in a golf cart and took us on quite a rocky and muddy ride up to a pasture where the longhorns were roaming. On the ride up as bugs were flying in my face I was a little unsure if trusting Adrienne (our photographer) was the right move. But as soon as we got up there and saw how gorgeous it was with the animals we had no doubts at all. This was one of the most memorable parts of the day and she got some incredible photos!

The reception was held in the barn and set up with 5 long tables and simple flower arrangements and candles lined up down the center. We wanted the feel to be rustic and romantic but also relaxed nothing over the top. The colors we chose were corals and greens with some twigs, green burlap table runners and white linens. Everyone drank from mason jars which doubled as name tags for meeting others. Dinner was pulled pork with whipped sweet potatoes and we had homemade pies and carrot cake for dessert. The band was set up outside, there were twinkle lights and hanging candles, couches and hay bale seats, all while an old covered wagon served as the outdoor bar. It was just the perfect setting.

The entire weekend was way more than we could have hoped for. Our families and friends all meshed together and had a blast. The fun and dancing went on for hours and Hayden’s sister even got up and sang with the band for a few songs. It was the perfect weekend and we are grateful for everyone who made it so memorable and special for us.

Tuscan-Inspired Summer Country Club Wedding

Designed around the idea of an al fresco Tuscan dinner party, these summer nuptials managed to bring that perfect sense of Italian charm to Kansas City. With vendors like Jessica SloaneSimple Elegance and Branches & Twigs behind-the-scenes, the result is casual elegance done right and the proof is in the pudding. More from Brumley & Wells in the gallery right here.

From Brumley and WellsWith the creative talent and vision of Jessica Sloane, Kyle and Joel’s wedding was perfectly executed with the class and style of a Tuscan-inspired wedding. The entire day was gorgeous, and the natural landscape that’s so abundant around Kansas City and the Country Club was a perfect accompaniment to the stylistic elements from the day. The day was most clearly defined, however, by the obvious and abundant love shared between Kyle and Joel and their wedding guests and friends. It was such an honor to be there and to witness their celebration.

Elegant Kansas Garden Wedding at Botanica

Beautifully elegant but equally personal, this Botanica wedding has so many pretty and heartfelt little details I don’t even know where to start. Planned by Bel Amour Events with florals from Moore Flowers , there isn’t an image in this collection I don’t love, and luckily those beautiful pictures from Jackie Cooper speak for themselves.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/77697205 600 338]

From Jackie CooperThis late-summer wedding was all things pretty and elegant at the same time. The bridesmaids wore black floor-length dresses and carried pale tangerine and white bouquets to perfectly accent Courtney’s stunning Maggie Sottero gown. Their string-bulb lighting for the reception and the LOVE sign custom-made by Kyle himself completed the romantic, garden feel of the day.

Kyle is an avid outdoorsman, taking frequent trips to climb/hike Colorado’s fourteeners (mountains whose peaks rise above 14,000’ in elevation), so it was perfectly fitting that they literally tied the knot during their ceremony using climbing rope! They used river rocks for guests to sign in lieu of a traditional guest book, which suited their love of the outdoors and the garden setting for their ceremony and reception.
