An Ode to Old-World Romance at Villa Balbiano on Lake Como

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

This editorial was inspired by the refined romance and old-world grandeur of Villa Balbiano. Our vision was to create a celebration that felt timeless and deeply elegant, with a modern sensibility woven into every detail. We leaned into the property’s natural beauty and sweeping views, designing an atmosphere that felt intimate, elevated, and effortlessly luxurious – an ode to European sophistication and the magic of Lake Como.

[field title=”The Venue”]

Villa Balbiano served as the perfect setting, with its iconic façade, manicured gardens, and panoramic views of Lake Como. We placed the reception tablescape directly in front of the villa to highlight its dramatic architecture and allow guests to feel fully immersed in its historic beauty. The ceremony was designed on the waterfront, creating a serene and cinematic moment that celebrated the surrounding natural landscape without obstructing the stunning lake backdrop.

Florals were designed to feel lush, refined, and organic, with soft blooms and layered textures enhancing the natural charm of the villa. The ceremony featured abundant, floor-based arrangements at the lake’s edge, allowing the breathtaking views to remain unobstructed while still creating a sense of depth and romance. For the tablescape, we incorporated delicate florals, soft candlelight, and elegant place settings, striking the perfect balance between classic European style and modern editorial elegance.

Where Garden Romance Met Light-Filled Architecture at Crystal Bridges

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Every shade of pink!
& Sage green[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

For years, I dreamed of a garden party wedding. The soft florals, whimsical fabrics, and fresh air always felt like the perfect vibe. But I also had my heart set on Crystal Bridges as my venue—which, of course, is indoors. Still, what I love most about Crystal Bridges is how it brings the outside in. With its stunning floor-to-ceiling glass and light, airy architecture, it felt like the perfect blend of elegance and nature. It’s been my dream venue since the first time I visited. As someone who adores interior and event design, I’ve basically had my wedding planned out on Pinterest since high school. I knew I wanted to incorporate playful, romantic fabrics and a color palette that felt soft and fresh—think pink and green (or “blush and bashful,” if you ask my mom). My incredible wedding planner, Terri Court with Amanda Reed Weddings, helped bring that vision to life. She worked magic with the color scheme, layering different shades to add depth and dimension to the space. It was everything I imagined and more. Florals were a huge part of creating that garden party feel, and Samantha’s Garden absolutely blew me away. Their arrangements were breathtaking—guests are still talking about them! The team poured so much love into every detail and made us feel so cared for throughout the process. I truly couldn’t imagine our day without them. Every vendor on our dream team helped make our wedding not just a reflection of our vision, but something even more beautiful than we imagined. It was the garden party I had always dreamed of—an incredibly beautiful reflection of Josh and me, our love, and the beginning of our forever as husband and wife.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

It was April 2024—my 24th birthday weekend! Many of my friends had moved away after college for jobs, and my parents live in Texas, so having everyone in town felt extra special. The weather was warming up, spring was in the air, and it seemed like the perfect time to celebrate. My friends planned a little birthday get-together at City Park in Fayetteville, and it was such a fun Friday night filled with cake, drinks, and so many of my favorite people. While I was flattered that friends flew and drove in just for my birthday, I had a feeling something else might be happening that weekend… but I played along. When my parents arrived, they told me they had made a reservation at Atlas—a beautiful, upscale restaurant off the Fayetteville square—to celebrate. That definitely tipped me off a little, but it also made me dress up, which I was thankful for later! Josh picked me up from my house, and we started driving toward “Atlas.” As we passed Old Main Lawn, I saw one of his friends—who’s a photographer—standing there with a full proposal setup. I immediately started crying. Josh grabbed my hand, walked me to the spot, and dropped to one knee to ask the best question ever: “Will you marry me?” It was the easiest yes of my life. Right after, our friends popped out from behind the trees, and we all celebrated together. Later that evening, we headed to my parents’ Airbnb in Bentonville, where our families and friends were waiting to throw us the sweetest engagement party. We popped champagne, shared stories, laughed, and dreamed about the year of wedding planning ahead. Josh and I met at the University of Arkansas, giving campus tours, so getting engaged on Old Main Lawn was not only beautiful—it was deeply meaningful. He couldn’t have planned a more perfect proposal.

My wedding gown was designed by Reem Acra, and we found it at Warren Barron Bridal in Dallas. From the moment we walked in, the experience was absolutely incredible. The team at Warren Barron made every step—from dress shopping to multiple rounds of personalized fittings—feel so special. The women there were warm, attentive, and made me feel truly beautiful and like a bride. As it turns out, my dress was the very first one I tried on. It was called “Baby’s Breath”—a sweet detail that perfectly matched the floral, whimsical vibe of our wedding day. The gown featured stunning floral lace and 3D embellishments that gave it a feminine, romantic, and timeless feel. It was everything I had envisioned: soft, whimsical, and classic, yet with a modern, structured silhouette that felt so fitting for a wedding at an art museum. When I first tried it on, it brought tears to everyone’s eyes. And on our wedding day, when I finally got to show Josh, it brought even more. Marrying the love of my life in a gown that felt so “me,” yet so elevated, was truly unforgettable. I wish I could wear it every day.

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

The best girls deserve the best dresses! My gorgeous group of best friends all wore matching gowns from Dessy Group in the shade Ballet Pink. The dresses were one-shoulder with the sweetest, most subtle little bow detail. They looked absolutely stunning, and we couldn’t have been happier with the fit, quality, and personalized sizing options. One of my favorite touches was the getting-ready look—I found hand-sewn silk pajamas on Etsy in the same shade of pink, with bows tied on the shoulders to match the dresses. I loved that they got to get ready in those, and that their looks coordinated so perfectly from start to finish!

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

One of the best parts of choosing Crystal Bridges as our wedding venue was the convenience and care that came with it. The food, beverages, and staffing were all handled in-house, which made the planning process seamless. But more than that, every person we worked with was incredibly kind and thoughtful — it truly felt like they were invested in making our day special. Josh, my sweet husband, knew how long I had been dreaming about our wedding and how much I cared about the design and details. He was so supportive of my vision and let me take the lead on most decisions. That said, food was one area he felt strongly about, and it was so much fun to share that part of the planning with him. Our tasting, several months before the wedding, was one of the highlights of the process. We were both blown away by the variety and quality — everything was so delicious that narrowing down the menu was genuinely difficult. During cocktail hour, we offered a curated selection of passed hors d’oeuvres that reflected both our tastes and the local flavor. Guests enjoyed crab cakes with Southern remoulade and fresh dill, stuffed peppadew peppers filled with pimento cheese (Josh’s absolute favorite), Humboldt Fog crostini topped with Amarena cherries and toasted almonds, and smoked Arkansas trout pâté served on rice crackers with cucumber and chive. As guests entered cocktail hour, they were greeted with glasses of champagne and wine, and we had a fully staffed open bar where they could order their favorite cocktails or try local Arkansas beers — a fun and personal touch, especially since we’re a big brewery family and had lots of out-of-town guests. Dinner was just as memorable. We started with a harvest salad made with baby lettuce, dried blueberries, chèvre, toasted pecans, and a maple balsamic vinaigrette. For the main course, guests chose between a beef tenderloin filet with rosemary-cabernet demi-glace, garlic whipped potatoes, and asparagus, or peppercorn-brined chicken served with chipotle sweet potatoes, broccolini, and chimichurri sauce. Tableside wine service added a lovely touch, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the evening without leaving their seats. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the food — it was one of the most complimented parts of the night. Everyone was well-fed, happy, and ready to dance, drink, and celebrate. The joy in the room was palpable, and having all our favorite people together made it the most unforgettable night.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Where to begin?! Dreaming up June 21st with my incredible wedding planner, Terri, was everything I could’ve hoped for and more. I came in with a ton of ideas — a clear vision, color scheme, and vibe — but Terri’s attention to detail and creative talent took everything to a level I couldn’t have imagined. Seeing the ceremony and reception space for the first time brought my mom and me to tears. It was breathtaking and exceeded every dream I had. From the moment Josh and I got engaged, I knew florals would be the centerpiece of our wedding design. I had this vision of sage green ginger jars filled with lush arrangements, and once I nailed down our color palette, I began the hunt for the perfect jars. They became a signature element throughout the space — in the cocktail hour lounge, as part of our stunning seating chart display, and trailing the end of the head table. Terri sourced beautiful rattan jars to mix in, and we repurposed our floral arch from the ceremony to frame the head table, creating a gorgeous statement piece and photo backdrop for guests. Another design detail I poured my heart into was the linens. I’ve always had a passion for design, and mixing patterns was a way to bring our colors together and make the space feel uniquely ours. The first linen I fell in love with was from Nuage Designs — a sage green lattice pattern with white embroidery that we used on the head table. Another favorite was a floral pattern from BBJ La Tavola that tied all our colors together beautifully. We used it on the entry table, guest tables, cocktail tables, and most memorably, on our custom seating chart. Mary Claire Pfeifer of Modern Details NWA created a wallpaper-style backdrop using the fabric, and it was one of those small but impactful details that brought the entire design together. We even matched pillow covers in the lounge area to our table linens — no detail was missed, and it was one of my favorite aspects of the wedding. And then there were the florals. Samantha’s Garden created arrangements that were nothing short of magical. Their passion for their work and the people they serve was evident in every moment — from Diana, the owner, praying over me in the makeup chair, to the joy on their faces when they saw our reactions to the reception space. Their character and care were just as meaningful as their artistry. The ceremony space featured a floral arch, aisle flowers, a custom watercolor runner from Original Runner Co., and the most beautiful summer light streaming through the glass — it was ethereal. Cocktail hour was another area I put a lot of thought into. We had a stunning circular bar from Alchemy Event Rentals, wrapped in custom vinyls featuring our wedding crest and a sweet floral trellis pattern. It felt like a garden party dream. The bar was adorned with rattan cone lamps (which now live in our home), lush florals, and personalized touches like custom stir sticks, napkins, and koozies — all made by me! The lounge area was perfect for guests to relax and mingle, with ginger jars, floral arrangements, and custom pillows that matched our linens. The standing cocktail tables featured a mix of our favorite patterns, and our seating chart — again, thanks to Mary Claire — was a showstopper, featuring the “Maya Duck Egg” linen from BBJ La Tavola. As we moved into the reception at Eleven at Crystal Bridges, the space was transformed. We repurposed all the ceremony florals, including the arch, which made the room feel lush and full. Flowers lined the stage façade, the head table, guest tables, and even created a floral bay around the cake table, complementing our 3D floral cake that mimicked my wedding dress. The tables featured linens from Nuage Designs, BBJ La Tavola, and Stradley Davidson, with soft pink napkins that matched the cake table linen. Samantha’s Garden created what they called a “candle garden” — clusters of floating candles that added a romantic glow. One special detail on our head table was the charger plates. We rented feminine, scalloped chargers from Posh Couture Rentals in Dallas that had a trellis-like pattern, perfectly blending with our overall design. And then there was the dance floor — a true labor of love. The entire Amanda Reed Weddings team helped bring it to life. It featured our crest in the center, surrounded by a subtle floral trellis pattern in our wedding colors, with a sage green trim that tied everything together. We carried this pattern into the stage and bar vinyls as well, creating a cohesive and beautiful look. We danced the night away until our final dance and streamer exit. Designing our wedding with Terri was truly a dream come true. It felt like us in every way — intentional, joyful, and full of love. It was over a year of behind-the-scenes work poured into one unforgettable day, and not a single detail was missed. June 21, 2025, will forever be one of the most cherished days of our lives, and we’re endlessly grateful to everyone who helped make it the perfect start to our forever.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Our wedding cake was from Shelby Lynne’s Cake Shoppe in Springdale, and it was such a fun part of the planning process — especially for Josh, who was just as excited about cake tasting as he was about food tasting (we both have a major sweet tooth!). The cake was five tiers, and the design was modeled after the texture and lace of my wedding dress. Jennifer, the owner of the most charming little shop, looked at just two photos of my dress (with Josh waiting outside, of course) and somehow brought it to life so beautifully through the cake design. There were delicate floral embellishments that looked like cascading baby’s breath, and the whole cake became a stunning focal point in our reception space. One of my favorite parts? It stayed up all night — because it was actually fake! We cut into a small section that was real, and Shelby Lynne made several sheet cakes behind the scenes to serve our guests. That way, instead of having a torn-apart cake sitting out, we got to keep that gorgeous piece of edible art on display the entire evening. We did our cake cutting to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers — a special request from my dad, since it’s one of his favorite songs. We used the most beautiful personalized cake forks, gifted to us by the Amanda Reed Weddings team, and they’re something we’ll cherish forever. Before we know it, we’ll be using them again to enjoy our anniversary tier! As for flavors, we went all out: brown butter pineapple (Josh’s favorite and the one we cut into), Hummingbird (my favorite), lemon cream (our anniversary tier), and chocolate ganache. Every bite was just as delicious as it was meaningful.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]We had live music throughout our entire celebration, and it was one of those touches that guests absolutely loved. For the ceremony, we had a local cellist — Cello by Austin — play all of our music, which added such a beautiful and emotional atmosphere to the moment. After the ceremony, a jazz trio from Smoothman Music led us into cocktail hour, with the saxophone setting the tone as guests transitioned into the next part of the evening. They played throughout cocktail hour, and it was such a hit — everyone loved it. For the reception, we did all of our special dances to recorded songs that were meaningful to us. Josh and I had our first dance to “At Last” by Etta James — a romantic classic that felt so timeless and perfect. My dad and I danced to “Letting You Go” by Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit. Jason Isbell is from my dad’s small hometown of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, so it was a sweet and personal choice that we both loved. Josh and his mom danced to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by Randy Newman, which was such a fitting and sweet moment — the Rhodes family loves all things Disney, so it couldn’t have been more perfect. Josh and I cut our cake to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers, which was a special request from my dad since it’s one of his favorite songs — and it truly was the loveliest day. For the rest of the reception, we had an amazing local band, Funk Factory, and they kept the party going all night long. The dance floor was packed, the energy was incredible, and we truly never wanted it to end.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

One of the most meaningful details from our wedding day was a small but deeply sentimental keepsake. My mom lovingly transformed my baptismal bonnet — handmade by my aunt when I was a baby — into a delicate handkerchief. She embroidered Josh’s and my initials along with our wedding date in soft blue thread, adding a “something blue” that was both personal and symbolic. That handkerchief wiped away many happy tears throughout the day and became one of the most cherished items from our celebration. We plan to pass it down to our children for their own wedding days, adding their initials to it over time and continuing its legacy as a treasured family heirloom.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

For our reception party favors, we wanted something fun, personal, and memorable — so we had trucker hats passed around the dance floor that read “All Rhodes Lead Home.” If wedding hashtags are still a thing, that was ours. But more than just a clever phrase, it holds a sweet story. Back in college, Josh and I had only been dating for a couple of months. I was living in the sorority house with one of my best friends, Caroline, who later became one of my bridesmaids. I was already completely smitten and convinced we were going to get married. (Fun fact: after our first date, my maid of honor recorded a video of me saying, “I’m going to marry that man”… and well, here we are!) Caroline was fully on board with my daydreaming and helped me imagine the perfect wedding. She came up with the hashtag “All Rhodes Lead Home,” and it instantly stuck. It felt so right — a play on Josh’s last name and a reflection of the life we were building together. I knew I had to include it in our wedding somehow, so I hand-made trucker hats with the phrase printed on them. Seeing our guests dancing with them is such a fun and meaningful moment.

A Collected, Cocktail-Forward Wedding Along the Chesapeake

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

When choosing the wedding colors, I decided to use the backdrop of the Chesapeake as my inspiration. The blue of the river and the lush green grass created the best color palette. In general, blues and whites were what we kept with.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The design for the wedding had been in my mind for close to a year before the engagement. The overall vibe was the best cocktail party you’ve ever hosted at your home. I knew that making people feel like they were in our home meant bringing in furniture and decor that felt true to us. I have been a collector of antiques for years and wanted those pieces to be on display. The gorgeous Ormolu pieces gifted from my mother were on the large bar, and the lounges were adorned with brass, books, and lamps from our home. March loves to collect driftwood from Virginia, so we added those pieces to the cocktail tables. Everything had a pla,ce and no details were spared. Other small details that I loved were the outfits the servers wore. They each wore custom aprons with our couple’s monogram on the front and a navy blue bow tie. The tray they carried had other Chinoiserie prints, and the cocktails had stir sticks with Huckleberry wearing a bowtie. The original design of the tent started with a 40′ bar that stretched down the back of the tent, allowing the guests a place to sit and enjoy the view. We did custom woodworking on the end caps and used a beautiful Chinoiserie paper to, once again, bring in a favorite design of mine. I then decided that we needed two round bars on either end of the tent. At no point did I want a guest to be waiting on a drink or not have a place to sit. With the cocktail party in mind, lounges were placed by the water and on either side of the dance floor with rugs under each to make gathering space within the tent. All bars had to have seating. The bars had nut trays and small lamps to create an intimate setting. The drink menus were created using a cane backing to add texture and visual interest to the space. For the dance floor, I continued with the blue but decided on a pattern to draw your eye to the center of the tent. Because I kept the color palette limited, I really wanted to use lighting to set the tone. I decided to hang pendant lights over the length of the back bar and light each lounge and circle bar withpinpointt lighting, allowing them to glow in the evening. As the sun went down, we had lighting wash the tent that changed with the music throughout the evening. It kept the energy up and set the tone for each stage. I wanted it to truly feel like you were in our home and you were the most special guest, because you were. From the first time I went to March’s childhood home, I was in love. Virginia, and especially Kilmarnock, was a very special place for him and has become one of my favorite places. Its a place you instantly feel at home. The home is picturesque, and the water is inviting and calming. Choosing this special place was the easiest part of the design process. My goal when designing the wedding was to make the guests feel what we feel when we visit Virginia. There was this cute little venue in the nearby town, called Camp, that we loved to visit to have a bottle of wine and sit by the fire pits. We knew this would make the best spot for a relaxed welcome party. We had a wood-fired pizza truck brought in from Richmond and a bluegrass band to join. It was lighthearted and set the tone for a comfortable and love-filled weekend. When it came to the wedding itself, I wanted every hour orchestrated, and not to make the evening stiff, but to make it feel effortless. When arriving at a wedding, I always noticed that everyone wants to meet and greet with friends and family they haven’t seen in a while. With this in mind, I thought, let’s do a cocktail hour with a full bar and oysters, Olde Salts, of course, our favorite. The most amazing electric violinists, Tiffany Shanta, who I might add plays with Michael Buble. She entertained the guests with current and old songs. The guests were then brought to their seats, and we did sing-along to “Little Help From My Friends,” by Joe Cocker, as March and our sweet dog, Huckleberry, made their way to the front. This was a song that was a favorite of my mother’s and March’s. With Tiffany playing alongside, the wedding party walked down to “Bittersweet Symphony,” by David Garrett, my all-time favorite version. After we said “I do,” it was time to party! Servers immediately served guests Champagne from my mother’s antique silver trays as they made their way to the tent.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

With the passing of March’s mother in 2021, he wanted a way to incorporate her into the proposal. He decided that Mother’s Day weekend would be the perfect time. Karen was in bed, awaiting her morning coffee, watching cat videos, when March brought her her coffee. She was too busy laughing watch the video where the guy accidentally pushed the cat filter on his Zoom call, and he’s trying to tell the judge he isn’t a cat, to even notice he was on one knee! When she did, she said, “wait why are you on one knee?!?” She knew why. And with a simple asking of her hand, they were engaged.

I wanted the florals to be impactful but not overwhelming. I decided to do larger arrangements on the 40′ bar and large center arrangements in the middle of the two circle bars. We kept with blues and whites and kept the blooms light and airy. The arch for the ceremony was used later as the entrance for the tent.

The bride wore a customized Eisen Stein dress, which fit her vision and personality so perfectly. It was equal parts whimsical and sophisticated, with a sheer overlay, intricate bodice with lace appliqués, and flirtatious ruffles down the skirt. The dress was complemented with a lovely, elbow-length veil that added an element of softness anda vintage feel.

Her bridesmaids wore mismatched, solid, and patterned garden-party-inspired dresses that brought a lightness and additional floral element to the wedding day. The variety of colors, designs, and patterns came together beautifully.

Bold and bright colored florals made for spectacular statement pieces to brighten their sailcloth tent on this rainy spring day in Virginia. With two large hanging installations, full of structure, movement, and texture, on either side of the dance floor, and pops of color via candles and florals in the tablescapes, the design was completely bespoke. Watercolor menus and table numbers carried through the wildflower and garden theme, and the names of the tables were meaningful places in the couple’s relationship. The colorful vibes were also continued with colored, pastel fluted glassware.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The couple opted out of having a wedding cake in favor of a dessert table, filled with small-bite options for the guests to munch on while they danced.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

The couple chose to emphasize their partnership in their ceremony, fusing Jewish and Western traditions with their own ideas. Instead of the bride walking down the aisle to meet her groom, they had each set of their parents walk them to meet at the start of the aisle. The parents exchanged hugs, and then the couple joyfully walked down the aisle together. They also circled each other and broke the glass together at the end of the ceremony. Instead of traditional flower girls, the couple had “flower grandparents,” who tossed petals to start the ceremony.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

The bride held a mono-floral bouquet of six white tulips, one tulip to represent each bridesmaid and their importance in her life. This not only created understated romance, but it was also a sweet tribute to her wedding party.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]The duo wrote each guest a personal note on their escort card. With custom-designed floral prints on the escort display wall, these cards guided guests to their seats and served as a touching element.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

The bride is an incredible dancer and wanted to add a fun surprise to the reception, so she picked a hot pink textured mini dress and platform, hot pink Versace heels as her second look. She wowed the crowd as she made her way back to the dance floor and danced the night away with her new husband, dance troupe, and family and friends!

An Immersive Lakefront Wedding Rooted in Romance and Place at Villa Pizzo

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]pale pink, neutral color palette.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

For the design, vibe, and vision, I drew so much inspiration from the beauty of the property. I am drawn to all things romantic, delicate, and feminine, so naturally, I wanted the flow of the wedding day to feel natural and immersive in the details of the grounds. The ceremony was held on the ‘darsena’, a boathouse overlooking the lake, so I wanted the florals to complement the view rather than overpower. We wanted every moment of the wedding weekend to feel exciting for our guests, so between the stunning views of the lake paired with the food and activities, it truly felt like something out of a movie!

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Matt and I took a trip to Dallas, Texas,s to see Post Malone perform for his ‘Austin’ album tour. I had no idea Matt made plans to surprise me by proposing on this trip! The day before the concert, Matt told me we would drive to a town 3 hours away called Murfreesboro,o Arkansas, where we would go explore the Crater of Diamonds state park and literally dig for diamonds! He told me it was the only public diamond mine in the United States! After digging in the dirt and mud for over 2 hours, Matt pulled my actual diamond ring out of his backpack, got down on one knee, and popped the question. Matt’s creative and humorous nature really came through fromthis well-devisedd plan!

Our wonderful catering vendor, AFM Banqueting, helped us curate the most delicious menu for our guests on the wedding day. Guests were welcomed to the ceremony with a crisp glass of prosecco, and enjoyed cocktails and the most delicious spread of prosciutto, cheeses, and bites during our aperitif. As guests were welcomed into the stunning glass marquee,e we started with a baby gem lettucCaesarar salad, sprouts,s and quail in confit. For the first course, we chose mezzi paccheri pasta, lobster marinated with lemon zest and basil,l and for the main course, we gave guests the option to choose a sea bass cooked in marine salt, orange and fennel salad, or seared beef filet with chianti and black pepper, wild herbs, and new potatoes. The flavors AFM put together were creative and so delicious – the best food we have ever had at a wedding!

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

I wanted the wedding decor to blend effortlessly with the beauty of Villa Pizzo’s picturesque property, so we decided to opt for a romantic and neutral color palette. Villa Pizzo’s unique position on the lake allows it to stand out from the other notable villas on Lake Como; the pale pink paint, rose varieties, Orangerie, and olive trees all inspired the decor and florals for our wedding. Matt and I adopted a fewnon-traditionall practices for our wedding, including not having specific wedding colors. We worked closely with Maurizio of Event Couture; he put his heart into designing our florals, including the ethereal hanging flower arrangements, secret garden-inspired centerpiece,s and timeless ceremony pieces.

A classic Italian millefoglie cake, filled with cream and berries, served as the perfect sweet finale.

Another part of our wedding weekend we loved so much was our boating day to Bellagio we did on Thursday. Lastly, dancing until 2 am with our incredible DJs from Meduza was the best way to end the most amazing day. Mattia and Luca gave us the best set of our lives, and we danced the night away with our guests.

A Parent Trap-Inspired Celebration With New York Flair in Marina del Rey

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Ivory, Sage Green, Black accents

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

When touring The Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey, the Bride and Groom learned that The Parent Trap was filmed there and immediately fell in love with the venue’s timeless 1990s charm. The film’s sense of nostalgia and the hotel’s blend of glamour and elegance, without feeling too formal, captured exactly what they were looking for. Although they live in New York City, the couple wanted to bring a touch of New York sophistication to their Los Angeles celebration. Their goal was to create a wedding that felt like an unforgettable party filled with many surprises and lots of details.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

The groom proposed in Central Park in New York City. Like all great proposals, it began with a clever ruse for the bride to meet his friends for brunch on the Upper East Side, but instead, he led her on a detour into a remote part of the park where a photographer was waiting by a beautiful waterfall.

The bride wore a stunning all-lace gown with a matching veil by Berta. Originally designed without removable sleeves, the Bride customized the dress to allow more movement for dancing later in the evening. Around 12AM, she changed into a sparkling mini dress paired with matching gloves. The second look was revealed alongside the groom and a surprise entrance by disco-head dancers, signaling the start of the late-night disco party.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Instead of having traditional bridesmaids, the bride and groom, both the youngest in their families, asked their older siblings to walk them down the aisle. The groom’s sisters wore classic black gowns and carried small bouquets of baby’s breath.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

The ceremony took place in the Ritz-Carlton’s garden, where the aisle and stage were lined with clouds of baby’s breath and soft white florals, creating an ethereal, dreamlike setting. The florist, Renaissance Florals, was given nearly full creative freedom to bring the vision to life. While the bride’s initial inspiration centered around baby’s breath, the design team layered in lush greenery, orchids, peonies, and roses to add texture and depth. The result was a romantic and timeless display that felt both modern and classic. When evening fell, the celebration transitioned into the ballroom, which was completely transformed into a breathtaking floral dreamscape. Giant trees of baby’s breath anchored the space, while towering custom arches of roses and delicate blooms framed the room. Candelabras adorned with cascading white flowers and flickering candlelight filled the space with warmth and glow. Every detail reflected the couple’s vision of intentional beauty — from custom linen napkins and editorial-style programs to personalized chocolate floral favors placed at each setting. Working closely with their families, the Bride and Groom curated each element to ensure the evening felt immersive, thoughtful, and true to their love story.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The wedding cake, crafted by the renowned ButterEnd bakery, featured two of the couple’s favorite flavors — classic carrot cake and walnut-blueberry-lemon. Guests had the option to choose.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

The ceremony took place at the Ritz Garden, where the aisle and stage were lined with clouds of baby’s breath and soft white florals, creating an ethereal, dreamlike setting. Guests were welcomed by the sounds of a live string quartet and an ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists from Eli’s Band. The musical selection was deeply personal — including a moving rendition of “The Prayer”, a favorite of the bride’s mother, which brought many guests to tears even before the bride walked down the aisle.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Following heartfelt speeches, the bride’s father surprised everyone with an unforgettable performance by the USC Trojan Marching Band, a nod to the bride’s alma mater. The bride — a former USC Song Girl cheerleader— joined the band with fellow alumnae and best friends, pom poms in hand, as the room erupted in applause and chants of “Fight On!”[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

As the ceremony concluded, guests were invited to the cocktail hour overlooking the sparkling water and sailboats of the marina. Three custom bars offered signature cocktails inspired by the couple’s life in New York City — the “Lady Libertini” and “Met in Manhattan” — paired with gourmet tray-passed hors d’oeuvres. A live saxophonist from Eli’s Band set the tone, weaving through the crowd as guests mingled against a golden California sunset.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

Eli’s live band kept the crowd dancing all night long. Just when guests thought the night had peaked, disco-headed dancers led the bride and groom back into the ballroom for a dazzling late-night re-entrance. The bride changed into her second look — a chic, sparkling mini dress with gloves, and the band started playing disco hits, transforming the space into a glittering “Saturday Night Fever”-inspired disco.

A Dramatic, Candlelit Wedding of Refined Elegance at Medinah Country Club

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Black, blush, ivory, and candlelit gold[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Timeless, romantic, and chic. Steven and Iman wanted their Medinah Country Club celebration to feel intimate yet grand, with dramatic candlelight, lush drapery, and refined architectural details captured throughout. Yanni Design Studio and Cygnet Events and Design brought their vision to life with romantic textures, layered lighting, and abundant ambiance.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Iman, from Toronto, and Steven, from Chicago, first met on Bumble when Steven was living in Toronto for work. Their first date at a wine bar ended with Steven cheekily writing “Do you want to get another drink after this?” on a notepad with checkboxes for yes, no, and maybe, a playful moment that became a defining part of their story. Years later, Steven recreated that memory in his proposal, giving Iman a new note reading, “Do you want to marry me?” with the same checkboxes. On their rooftop, under string lights he had hung himself, Steven proposed with the Chicago skyline behind them.

A Vibrant, Personality-Packed Wedding at the Columbus Museum of Art

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Their wedding at the Columbus Museum of Art was a joyful reflection of their personalities: vibrant, layered, and playfully chaotic in the best way. From their view above, cocktail hour to a dance floor powered by love (and grandparents who wouldn’t sit down), Aimee and Maggie’s wedding was bold, beautiful, and unmistakably them.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]Aimee and Maggie’s love story unfolded across continents, office chat threads, and one unforgettable beach birthday party. Though they worked at the same company after college, their paths didn’t truly cross until years later in Seattle, where a blossoming friendship turned into something much more during a cabin weekend in 2022. They fell fast and deeply, bonding over their shared sense of humor and dedication to their pets—Maggie’s dog, Rudy, and Aimee’s cat, Azula (despite Maggie’s cat allergies). After an initial proposal involving a glittery Amazon ring, they officially sealed their engagement over dinner, exchanging real rings that reflected each of their unique styles.[/field]

This Bride’s Vera Wang Gown Would Make Marie Antoinette Jealous

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

I focused heavily on materials and colors: nickel and silver, ivory and brown, deep plum, and green. Years ago, I had screenshotted a Chanel email advertising nail colors in green, purple, and pink. Although the shades were pastel, that combination stayed with me, and I knew when I began planning the wedding that I wanted to reinterpret it in a bold and dramatic way through the florals. Paired with silver accents, it created a strong old‑world New York feel that was both polished and refined.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The design inspiration from the bride was romantic, sexy, loud, and sophisticated, and being a Buyer, it was also about fashion. Even their wedding invitations were modeled after fashion show invites, setting the tone for the evening. Their color palette was comprised of nickel and silver, ivory, black, deep plum, and green. And while the florals and design were everything the bride dreamed of and more, the star of the show was her dramatic Vera Wang gown–and Vera herself gave the bride her blessing to wear it on her big day!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

For months, I visited every bridal boutique in Los Angeles and still couldn’t fall in love with anything. As someone who’s worked in fashion my entire life, the dress meant everything to me. Most dresses looked like something I’d already worn, just in white, or had lost their magic after saturating Instagram. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted, but I knew with certainty what I didn’t. Vera Wang was my last stop. Deep down, I always knew the dress would be there, but I still wanted to shop like an anti-bride and be sure before my heart landed on Vera. I arrived with pre-selected gowns, but again, nothing clicked. Then I noticed one dress was missing from my selections. When I asked about it, the representative said it was rarely chosen and very different. That only made me want to try it more. The second I put it on, I felt the emotion I’d been chasing all along. It was bold, avant-garde, and had the wow factor I always look for when putting an outfit together. Still, I hesitated. It was unlike any wedding dress I’d seen, and I wasn’t sure if I could push the envelope that far. At my follow-up appointment, I tried on a new round of dresses, but nothing came close. When I stepped into the dress again, my sales rep encouraged me to walk to the front of the boutique, where sunlight shone through floor-to-ceiling windows. People passing by began to stop, applaud, and even blow kisses. Inside, a woman watching nearby began complimenting how the dress looked on me. I assumed she was another shopper until my rep introduced her as Erica Arkin, Senior Vice President of Vera Wang. She and the New York team had just flown in for the awards show and were waiting in the store for their hotel rooms to be ready. Moments later, another stylish woman walked in, saying she had to see what was causing all the commotion outside. My representative introduced her as Priya Shukla, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for Vera Wang. She immediately began gushing over the dress and how well I wore it. She loved it so much, she said she wanted to take a photo and send it to Vera herself. I was overwhelmed at the idea that Vera Wang might even know I exist, which was surreal. I asked Priya if I could have a screenshot to remember the moment, but she kindly suggested calling Vera instead. So there I was, standing in a Vera Wang gown, beside her right-hand team, patiently waiting as the phone rang to speak to Vera Wang herself. Vera complimented how the dress looked on me and said she was thrilled I was leaning toward it. Being able to express what a visionary and icon she is is a moment I’ll never forget. It was the confirmation I needed that the dress was truly meant for me. Having my mom and sister there to witness it made it all the more unforgettable. After the call, my representative turned to me and said she had never seen anything like it in all her years of bridal appointments. By pure chance, the Vera Wang team’s hotel rooms weren’t ready, and they happened to come into the boutique during my appointment. The timing was completely unplanned but absolutely perfect.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]Shadi presented the idea of a round dance floor, which immediately excited me. It gave the room a more intimate energy while also feeling architecturally distinct. Candelabras in nickel, rather than glass, were another must. They carried the warmth and intimacy I envisioned while keeping the look modern and sexy. I also wanted continuity between the menus and our invitations, so they were designed with embossed borders and illustrations of the hotel and paired with plates edged in black trim. [/field]

A Nature-Driven Deer Valley Wedding Rooted in Earthy Texture

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]White, blue, green[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Captivated by the natural beauty of the Deer Valley mountains, Libby and Jack’s wedding day unfolded in earthy elegance. Their mood boards drew on wildflowers, pine trees, patterned tablecloths, and a palette of deep blues and greens.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]After graduating from high school, Libby and Jack went their separate ways, eventually returning to their hometown of Houston after college. The two had first met in sixth grade, and as Jack remembers, he always had a special feeling about Libby. Fate stepped in when they crossed paths at a local restaurant, joking about how it had been ages since they’d last seen each other. Jack asked Libby out the following week, and the two spent hours chatting over sushi, catching up on lost time. “After that date, we both knew each other was the one!” Libby recalls. Four years later, in December, Jack proposed. The couple had planned to spend the holidays in Park City, Utah, with Libby’s family. With a full itinerary of activities, they got dressed for the evening when Jack suggested stopping for a pre-dinner cocktail nearby. Once the two found their seats on the patio, Jack got down on one knee. The entire family was already in town, ready to celebrate, and they capped the night with a fabulous dinner. “It was one of the most special moments!” Libby says.[/field]

A Coastal Desert Wedding at Hotel San Cristóbal in Todos Santos

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Coastal desert tones layered with pops of vibrant color from florals, grounded by natural textures and materials. The palette was inspired by the meeting point of desert and sea in Todos Santos—warm, sun-washed neutrals accented with rich greens, bougainvillea pinks, and candlelit glow.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]We wanted the aesthetic to feel deeply connected to place while remaining elevated and effortless. Each event carried its own mood and attire: colorful cocktail for the welcome party in town, classic black tie for the wedding day, and playful “pool party chic” for the day after. The overall vision was to immerse guests in the rhythm of Todos Santos—raw, coastal desert beauty softened by intentional design, natural textures, and a sense of ease that never felt over-styled.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]We got engaged in London in 2023 while I was there for work. I thought I was meeting my sister for a casual Friday dinner, with a quick pre-dinner drink beforehand. Behind the scenes, George had conspired with my sister and the hotel staff to orchestrate the proposal—an envelope waiting for me on arrival, a letter in George’s handwriting, and a candlelit path leading to our suite’s terrace.

Reality had its own plan. I was fashionably (very fashionably) late, and by the time I arrived nearly two hours later, the original staff had changed shifts and were convinced I had stood George up. When I finally appeared, the maître d’ handed me his note, George smiled, and together we went upstairs. On the terrace overlooking the London skyline at sunset, he asked me to marry him. The next morning, we flew to the Greek Isles for a spontaneous adventure.[/field]

I knew it was the one the moment I tried on the veil that attached in my hair and draped to my wrists, adding an unexpected sculptural element to an otherwise classic silhouette. I wanted something timeless but with an edge—elevated, slightly unexpected, and infused with a sense of ease that felt right for Mexico.[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]We encouraged our bridesmaids to choose looks that felt personal while staying within a warm, neutral palette that complemented the setting. The result felt relaxed yet refined, allowing each person’s style to shine while maintaining a cohesive, effortless look.[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]George wore a classic black tuxedo that grounded the evening in tradition, while the groomsmen followed suit with timeless black-tie styling, creating a sharp contrast against the organic textures and candlelit outdoor setting.[/field]

The experience unfolded slowly over several hours, encouraging conversation, storytelling, and connection. Cocktails and wine flowed freely, adding to the warmth and intimacy of the evening.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]A week before the wedding, an earthquake damaged our original dinner venue, forcing a complete redesign of the evening almost overnight. What could have been chaos became one of the most magical moments of the weekend. Our planning and design team created a winding dinner table nestled between queen palms and bougainvillea in full bloom, framed by a perfectly scaled structure with billowing drapery and warm, layered lighting that made the entire space glow. The setting felt organic, romantic, and completely immersive.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Instead of a traditional cake moment, we focused on the overall dining experience and shared desserts served family-style, allowing guests to linger at the table and enjoy the evening without interruption.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”][/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]One of our favorite elements was a jewelry-making activation for guests, using beads inspired by the colors and textures of Mexico and charms that captured the spirit of the region. By the end of the weekend, nearly everyone was wearing their handmade piece—woven into photos, dinners, and dancing—a tangible reminder of the celebration.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]The welcome party took place in a restored brick building in town with ivy climbing the walls and a few friendly dogs wandering through as guests toasted us. It set the tone for the weekend: relaxed, communal, and full of character.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]After dinner, we surprised everyone by moving the dance floor into the hotel’s chapel—an intimate, unexpected setting that immediately shifted the mood. Later in the evening, a playful twist emerged when wigs of every color and style appeared. What started with a few brave guests quickly turned into a joyful, uninhibited dance floor moment that broke down every barrier and became one of the night’s most unforgettable highlights.[/field]

We settled on Hvar after visiting Croatia a few years prior and having an incredible time. The beaches, great food,d and vibrant nightlife made for such a fun and memorable wedding. Wee,ek, and the Promessi team made the process of planning a wedding abroad so seamless.

Our signature cocktails were espresso martinis and margaritas, and we served all Croatian wines throughout the weekend.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Maja and her team at Showroom Design completely exceeded our expectations for the florals and design. They created light pink floral arrangements of roses and hydrangeas to adorn our ceremony and reception spaces. I loved seeing how the bouquets, ceremony area, and reception tablescape turned out – it was romantic and elegant while simultaneously allowing the beautiful views and backdrop of the venue shine. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

The cake was a classic three-tiered white wedding cake prepared by a local bakery called Pastry Shop Sweets. We chose an almond flour vanilla cake with a mixed berry filling.

[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

The ceremony took place along the water, which was the main reason why we chose Beach Club Hvar as our venue. A close family friend officiated, and each of our mothers prepared readings for the ceremony. A violin and cello duo performed as guests arrived and during the wedding procession. I walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love.’

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

We wanted our reception design to mirror the linear layout of the Beach Club and to seat all our guests at a single, long table. The planners and design team did such an amazing job accommodating 145 guests at one table, and it was wonderful to see all our friends and family seated together throughout the evening while we listened to speeches and celebrated.

We had our first look on the terrace at Palace Elisabeth, with our parents, siblings, and bridal party looking on from the balcony overhead.

The night before the wedding, we had a white party on the hotel terrace at Amfora. For decor, we incorporated fresh citrus fruits for the centerpieces, arranged with vibrant orange florals as a departure from the softer pink palette of the actual wedding day. We had a gelato cart, spritz stand, watercolor portraitist, and live music to enjoy on Friday night in Hvar.

After five years together, Noah was ready to take the next step in life with Amber. He carefully selected a ring- an oval diamond with a simple gold band and hidden halo- and began planning a trip in which he would pop the big question. Travelling was one of the ways they bonded, so naturally, he was going to ask on a trip they spent together. Prague was one of his bucket list destinations to explore, with its magnificent architecture and rich culture. What better way to make it memorable than to ask his girlfriend to be his wife there? On an icy December morning in front of Charles Bridge, Noah got down on one knee but got so nervous he couldn’t utter a word. But Amber knew what he meant- and she said yes.

The wedding gown is Dany Tabet’s ‘DONDI’ from his Empress collection, with a modified bodice of removed straps, and includes a corset for support. With a sharp plunge neck line and mermaid silhouette, the dress emphasizes the shape of the bride. Fit for a garden party theme, the gown presents magnificent 3D flowers in an asymmetric pattern cascading down the fabric, embracing the imperfection of nature. The dress features pearls and sequins scattered across the dress, capturing light at times.

The bridal party selected various styles of light blue floor-length dresses and clothing to complement the whimsy and lightheartedness of the wedding. Notable brands include Reformation, Birdy Grey, and Peppermayo.

From Garden Serenity to Grand Celebration: A Refined Dutch Wedding at Huis ter Duin

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Green, soft pink, and white[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

Vivian & Long’s wedding took place at two beautiful locations: Parc Broekhuizen, one of the most luxurious estates in the Netherlands, and the grand hotel Huis ter Duin for the grand banquet reception. Love and nature intertwined to create a sophisticated and elegant setting for the ceremony in Parc Broekhuizen. The panoramic view of the serene lake became the focal point of their vows, surrounded by a palette of green, soft pink, and white that blended seamlessly with the abundance of green hydrangeas of the property. As the evening unfolded, they transitioned to Hotel Huis ter Duin, welcoming extended loved ones for a lively banquet and fantastic party filled with heartfelt moments and unforgettable revelry—proof that intimacy and exuberance can share the spotlight flawlessly.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

We got engaged on September 7th, 2023, in Bali. It was the second day of our trip, and Long had secretly arranged for a private driver to take us to Lahangan Sweet. He woke me up at 2:00 AM, and at first, I was completely confused — but it didn’t take long for me to realize that this might finally be the day. (I had been dropping some not-so-subtle hints that I was ready for us to take the next step) We arrived at Lahangan Sweet just before sunrise. The place was empty — just the two of us, with the breathtaking view all to ourselves. As the first light broke over the horizon, we watched the sun rise together. Then, at that perfect moment, he dropped to one knee and asked the big question. That evening, he had made a reservation at a luxury resort. Our table was set by the river, beautifully decorated with flowers. It couldn’t have been more perfect. Fun fact: Before our trip, my girlfriends made a poll in our group chat to guess whether Long would propose during the holiday. Not a single one of us — myself included — voted “yes.” I didn’t expect him to propose on that trip, because I didn’t know he had purchased an engagement ring.

I visited six bridal stores and probably tried on over 50 dresses, but the one I chose was actually one of the first few I tried. I fell in love with the subtle pleating on the bodice and the dramatic train. At first, I wasn’t sure about the fabric — I thought I wanted something heavier and more structured, like mikado. But I soon realized that the soft, flowy material suited my vision better. Since it was a midsummer wedding, the lighter fabric gave the dress a more effortless, airy look — exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]For the bridesmaid dresses, I chose soft, sage green. I had been torn between that and a gentle pink, but in the end, green felt like the better choice because it blended more seamlessly with the overall color scheme of our wedding.[/field]

In a Chinese wedding, food is one of the most important elements—and with many of our family and friends coming from a restaurant background, the bar was set quite high. For lunch, we chose a three-course meal prepared by the Michelin-starred restaurant Voltaire, featuring a French-style menu. For dinner, we served an eight-course meal that combined Chinese and French cuisine. We felt this fusion was the perfect way to blend tradition with modernity. It was a meaningful and delicious way to reflect both our roots and our shared tastes.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Katya Hutter, floral designer: “The floral design for Vivian and Long’s wedding at one of the finest estates in the Netherlands, Parc Broekhuizen, was inspired by the estate’s idyllic surroundings, the tranquil lake behind the main building, and the abundance of soft green hydrangeas gracing the gardens. Our vision was to create floral art that blended seamlessly with the natural landscape while making an artistic statement in tune with modern fashion aesthetics. We incorporated similar soft green hydrangeas and quicksand roses among a dozen other premium blooms. Cascading strands of green amaranthus were added as playful accents, resembling delicate earrings adorning the arch. The blend of fashion, floral art, and natural harmony makes this design so special to me.”

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

We cut our wedding cake in front of the estate. Gebakkerij designed our wedding cake that’s sophisticated and timeless.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

A year before the proposal, I stumbled upon our photographer Chymo’s Instagram—and I was instantly sold. I knew right away: she had to be the one to capture our big day. I never looked further for photographers. After the proposal, I contacted Chymo to shoot our pre-wedding pictures in Lake Como. There, my feelings were only confirmed. Our pre-wedding photos turned out even more beautiful than I had ever imagined. But most importantly, working with Chymo was incredibly easy. She knows exactly what she’s doing, and her warm, friendly nature made us instantly click. Of course, we also worked with Chymo for our actual wedding day. What drew me to her art was the way she tells a story through her lens. Her work evokes such a warm, joyful, and heartfelt feeling. I love how she captures not only the emotions but also all the little details that make each moment special. When we received our wedding photos for the first time, we both shed a few tears—they were just that beautiful.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Vivian’s favorite detail of the day: the first look with my dad. We’ve always been very close, and sharing that moment with him was incredibly special. When he saw me in my dress and started to tear up, it completely overwhelmed me — especially because I had never seen him cry before. It was such a raw, emotional moment that I’ll always carry close to my heart.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

Long’s favorite detail of the day: our siblings’ speeches during lunch. Each of the speeches was so heartfelt and endearing. They made Vivian and me laugh, feel so appreciated, and even shed a few (happy) tears here and there. For me, what made it especially touching is the fact that we usually do not – actually never – really express our feelings to one another, making this moment even more meaningful.

A Lively New Orleans Wedding Filled with Music and Candlelit Charm at The Columns

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Spring greens and white

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The Columns was the heartbeat of the wedding’s vision, a venue overflowing with character and the unmistakable charm of New Orleans. Skylar and Eli wanted their guests to truly experience the city they had fallen in love with, and every decision reflected that. From the courtyard’s lush greenery to the glow of candlelight, the evening was designed to feel both elegant and full of life. The dance floor became the center of it all as Skylar, Eli, and their guests danced late into the night. The NOLA Dukes Band brought incredible energy, filling every corner of The Columns with music and joy — the perfect finale to a day overflowing with love, laughter, and New Orleans magic.

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Eli proposed at Skylar’s favorite place, Lambert’s Cove on Martha’s Vineyard, the same island where their story began. The two met while volunteering for FOCUS, a Christian summer camp. During a return trip as volunteers, Eli suggested an early morning beach walk. With the sand still cool and the world quiet, he proposed with the ocean as their only witness. They spent their first day engaged, surrounded by fifty teenagers at camp, which felt perfectly fitting for the couple who met through service and community.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Skylar fell in love with Kyha’s Kasia Corset and Arta Skirt the moment she saw them. Every other gown she tried on was compared to this look because nothing else captured the same balance of structure and softness. The two-piece design felt elegant yet modern, allowing her to move, dance, and truly shine. The sleek silhouette paired perfectly with a touch of “something blue,” a pair of Jimmy Choos, for a timeless but personal statement.[/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

With friends from all walks of life, Skylar wanted her bridesmaids to feel comfortable and confident in what they wore. Each chose a silk dress in a shade of spring green, ranging from soft sage to deep moss, allowing their individual personalities to come through while still feeling cohesive. The natural palette beautifully echoed the lush greenery of The Columns’ courtyard.

In true New Orleans fashion, the couple embraced the tradition of heavy appetizers and food stations, letting guests nibble between dancing and cocktails. The Columns’ catering shone, with dishes that guests are still talking about. Two signature cocktails added a personal twist: (She’s) The Bee’s Knees and (He wishes he had) The Last Word. Both gin-based, they reflected the couple’s shared love of the spirit and their playful sense of humor.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Skylar’s mother carried calla lilies at her own wedding, and incorporating them was a meaningful nod to her. The florals leaned into the lush greenery of The Columns’ courtyard, with spring greens, ivory, and soft local blooms accented by glowing candlelight as the evening transitioned to night. The design was simple yet romantic, letting the venue’s beauty take center stage.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]In the grand ballroom of The Columns, Skylar and Eli chose a simple, modern cake that complemented the space’s historic beauty. Bittersweet created a three-tiered design that was both elegant and delicious, displayed on a grand piano. Eli was especially adamant that the cake feature a classic bride and groom topper, a playful detail that gave the sleek design a personal touch and ensured it received the attention it deserved.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

The ceremony opened with songs from FOCUS, the summer camp where the couple met, setting a deeply personal tone. Eli’s father officiated, making the moment even more meaningful. Before the ceremony, Skylar and Eli chose to exchange private vows on the upper porch of The Columns. It was an intimate, quiet moment just for them — a chance to center themselves in the joy of the day before stepping into the celebration. These deeply personal vows were then shared and allowed during the ceremony, allowing guests to listen to the couple’s devotion to one another as well as their promises for the future.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

One of the most unforgettable moments of the day was the Second Line, a beloved New Orleans tradition. Directly following the ceremony, a brass band led Skylar and Eli and all their guests from The Columns down St. Charles Avenue, parading from the ceremony straight into the reception. Dancing down the streets and celebrating surrounded by music, laughter, and the people they love most perfectly captured the spirit of New Orleans and the joy of the day. Congratulations and cheers from the locals passing by were also a special touch.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Another special detail close to their hearts was the artwork created by Eli’s mother and her lifelong friend for the invitation. Together, they hand-drew The Columns and The Pagoda House, the venues for the wedding and the night-before celebration. Their illustrations beautifully captured the essence of both places, serving as a meaningful keepsake and a reflection of the deep family connection woven throughout the weekend.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]It would be remiss not to mention the incredible creativity and dedication of the bride’s sister, Madison. From designing the invitations, custom matchboxes, ceremony programs, and signage, to ensuring every bubble machine was in its perfect place, the maid of honor went above and beyond. Madison’s attention to detail and unwavering support brought Skylar’s vision to life in the most personal way. She truly was one of a kind, standing beside the bride every step of the way.[/field]

A Maximalist Garden Wedding with a Coastal Twist on the Texas Coast

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]Blue, green, pink, yellow, and a variety of shades and colors in between.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The vibe: A summer wedding on the Texas coast that embodied elegant garden sensibilities but with a coastal twist. With a maximalist approach to design and details, there was no fear of color or pattern when it came to the elements that made up the visual experience of this day. Lush florals were a non-negotiable, given the garden inspiration, and custom details tied in personal elements from the couple, as well as provided subtle nods to other aspects of the wedding weekend experience. The result was as fun-loving and stylish as this couple, but also created a meaningful experience for them and their guests.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From the bride: “Peyton had arranged for both of our families to go down to the beach for the weekend of Memorial Day. We spent all of Saturday at the pool with my nieces and nephews and then had dinner that night. After dinner, he asked me if I would go with him down the boardwalk to the beach to take sunset pictures on his film camera. Which I thought nothing of because that was a normal thing. When we were about halfway down the boardwalk, one golf cart drives by, and then a second golf cart drives by (of course Peyton didn’t know that the only way that the golf carts could get down to the beach was by the boardwalk) so he looks at me and says, “Well, This looks like the perfect place to do it!” He got down on one knee and said,” Will you Marry Me?” I’m crying and trying to get out a yes! Our friend, who’s a photographer, drove down from San Antonio and took our pictures. It was absolutely perfect! Then, Peyton’s sweet family arranged for a party afterwards, complete with champagne, cookies, es, and cake! We celebrated all night long!

From the bride: “Like most girls, I dreamt of my wedding from a very early age. I always knew that I wanted something different when it came to my dress, and that it would be a color like a solid pink or even floral. What really drew me to the Monique Lhuiller gown was Sophia Bush’s dress from her wedding in 2022. She had a custom print Monique gown, and before that,t I had never seen anything like it! I don’t think I had even met my husband yet, but I just knew that whenever I got married, I would be getting married in that dress. AllofMonique’s designs are so effortlessly elegant and in the most fun ways, with dramatic trains, puff sleeves, and bold colors and patterns. I really am obsessed with her designs as a whole.”

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]

From the bride: “For my bridesmaids’ dresses, I really wanted them to feel beautiful and confident in their own skin. So I let them choose their own dress. I personally love the mismatch look. I think it really highlights each girl’s personality. I trusted the girls completely to pick a gorgeous dress. The right shade of blue made it a little tricky, but they were very patient with me on that.”

Given the emphasis on elevated experiences, the food and beverage selections were interactive, coastal, and sure to surprise and delight for Kenedy & Peyton’s guests! Guests started cocktail hour by enjoying passed signature beverages (Gold Rush and French 75 for Peyton and Kenedy, respectively, and a Paloma & Prickly Pear Margarita named for each of their pups!) passed appetizers, and the star of the show — the raw bar featuring several delicacies from the coast! Once guests made their way into the ballroom for dinner, they enjoyed a plated Grand Galvez salad, which is gorgeous in appearance and delicious with its Blood Orange Vinaigrette. Following the salad course, guests were served a dual-plated entree featuring a Petit Filet Mignon and a Gulf Crab Cake alongside mashed potatoes, broccolini, and baked bread accoutrements. Guests enjoyed an open bar all night, as well as chilled champagne from the oversized champagne bucket ice sculpture. Towards the end of the night, espresso martinis were flowing, and honey butter chicken biscuits were passed.

[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

One can’t have a coastal garden-inspired wedding and not have lush, colorful, stunning florals adorning every surface of the event! In the ceremony space, we kept the scenery relatively natural and featured bentwood chairs with scalloped umbrellas (the trim tying into the awnings on the hotel!) The florals are what took the design to the next level, between the lush asymmetrical altar of meadow arrangements (both grounded and on pedestals), the floral aisle runner, and the antique urns at the back of the aisle, which made the perfect bookend to the beauty of the space. Inside at cocktail hour, we transformed two parlor rooms in the hotel; one to hold a custom bar alongside the raw bar, and the other to feature a mix of striped and floral tables, some with seating, some as highboys. Florals were sprinkled into this space as well, along with some table lamps and custom signage. And we can’t forget about the urn arrangements that greeted guests as they made their way down the hallway to these rooms. The,n when moving into the Music Hall ballroom, guests first found their seats at the gallery wall-inspired seating chart, which had custom vinyl wallpaper that was the same pattern used throughout the invitation suite. Guests then walked into the ballroom that was transformed into a coastal garden, but also maintained the existing beauty of the hotel. The head table and the stage for the DJ were our primary focal points, but as your eye continued to wander, it was met with lace Mottahedeh chargers, custom menus, butterfly die-cut place cards, custom blue bentwood chairs, and a sea of florals and patterned linens! It was a feast for the eyes, and a perfect representation of an elevated, coastal, garden soirée that felt as intentional as it was approachable.

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]To tie in (literally!) with the feminine details throughout many aspects of the event design, a bow was featured on the bridal cake, which was front and center in the dessert display. The Groom has a major sweet tooth, so rather than doing a large cake, this couple opted to serve all kinds of petite desserts, which were featured on silver trays sourced from the bride’s family collection. These desserts were as delicious as they were pretty, and were wiped clean by the end of the night.[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”][/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

From the bride: “One memory that stands out to me about our wedding day has to be Peyton and me’s first look. This was very special to me because Peyton is my person. Just being in his presence keeps me calm. I was so nervous about the whole day until the point that I saw his face. His smile made me so happy! He also cried when he saw me,e which I didn’t think would happen, so that was pretty cute! We had the best time taking pictures and being in each other‘s presence before the ceremony.”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

From the planner: “While all of the design elements were essential in creating the aesthetic experience of this event, the linen selections were especially important to translating this bride’s vision and to transforming the reception space! Color and pattern were on full display, but the key was in mixing patterns and in choosing linens that had enough depth to them. When working in a ballroom like the Music Hall at the Grand Galvez, which is stunning with it’s gold moldings, large chandeliers, and powder blue walls, but has elements, like the carpeting, that are high-contrast and potentially “busy: to the eye — you can’t be afraid to bring in color, and in deeper tones, to “cancel out” unwanted design choices and direct the eye elsewhere. That’s exactly what we did with the striped green linens from Stradley Davidson and the colorful floral linens from Nuage Designs. These choices didn’t look washed out whatsoever, so instead of your eye going down to the busy carpeting, it was drawn up to all of the beautiful tabletop decor. Linens have the power to transform a space, and to bridge the gap between the existing design style of a venue, and the design style you wish to create with your event.”
