[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]
As the bride, my vision for the wedding was Father of the Bride meets elevated garden party. I wanted it to feel timeless, yet comfortable, as the wedding was hosted at Mike’s (the groom’s) parents’ home. It was important to me that it felt like a classic wedding but also more like coming over for a dinner party in the backyard.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]
Mike and I were long-distance from Minneapolis to Duluth for almost the entirety of our first two years of dating. During that time, we spent a lot of time up north, exploring Duluth and the beautiful sights along Lake Superior. On our final weekend in Duluth together, before moving in together back in Minneapolis, Mike proposed on a hike along the shores of Lake Superior.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]
I found my gown at Bella Bianca Bridal Couture during a girls’ trip to Chicago with my Mom. I wanted something that felt classic, and I fell in love with the taffeta fabric of my dress. I chose a classic Sareh Nouri ball gown, but had them remove the tulle from the skirt and add tulle detailing instead of the original sleeves.

I gave my bridesmaids a color scheme and some inspo, but let them choose their own dresses. I love all the dresses that they each chose, and it was fun to see them all in person on the big day!

We kept it easy for the groomsmen. The groomsmen were told to wear their favorite dark blue suits!

[field title=”Food & Drink”]
We used Chowgirls catering for the food and bar! Having great food that tasted amazing was important to us, given our desire to make people feel like they were being welcomed over for a fantastic dinner party. Plus, we all love to cook! Chowgirls completely delivered. As for the bar, of course,e we had to have our signature cocktails. Mine was a Hugo sprit,z and Mike chose a classic old-fashioned. For an NA option, my brother (who works in the beverage industry) made a giant batch of rhubarb syrup from the rhubarb in his garden. Chowgirls added it to pink lemonade and topped it with a sprig of rosemary for an adorable mocktail.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]
The florals stood out as one of my favorite parts of the day! Our florist, Amy from MillerHouse Flowers, turned the tables, tent, and bars into floral visions. The residence already had a beautiful backdrop of abundant hydrangea,s so we leaned into those and other seasonal flowers. I’d always loved Lily of the Valley bouquets, but Amy suggested Pieris Japonica as a seasonal alternative, and it turned out beautifully! We said our vows under an arch adorned with locally grown white lisianthus, meant to mimic a lush garden rose climbing over a trellis, and we filled rattan baskets with bunches of beautiful flowers that looked like they had just been plucked from the garden for the aisle. Our seating signs were also arranged into ginger jars from Mike’s mom’s collection, filled with bunches of flowers. Queen Anne’s lace, cosmos, and delphinium danced in the breeze down guest tables, winding between fluted hurricanes that added a special touch to the candlelight.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]
As is tradition in my family, we had a Danish wedding cake, called Kransekake, which was lovingly made by my Mom. After dinner, our cinnamon rolls from our favorite bakery, Isles Bun and Coffee, were delivered and served to the guests.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]
For the ceremony, I walked down the aisle to the soundtrack of Pride and Prejudice, one of my favorite movies. We were then married by one of our friends, who was partially responsible for setting us up. Our siblings all chose readings to share during our ceremony. Later that evening, our first dance was to “That’s How Strong My Love Is” by Otis Redding.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]
As a fun DIY activity, Mike and I embroidered our couple’s monogram on every single guest’s napkin! It was way more work than anticipated, but it paid off to see them laid out on the tables on the big day. Now we also have napkins for life! Furthermore, my now mother-in-law was kind enough to sew table runners and pillows to decorate the tables and chairs with. We picked out the fabrics together, and she crafted amazing touches that made the wedding feel so personal to us.

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]
I needlepointed “Bride” and “Groom” signs for the back of our chairs. I plan to pull them out and hang them on our dining chairs for each anniversary going forward!

[field title=”Special Detail #3″]
It was truly a team effort from the start, as my sister-in-law, Emily Vieth, who is an artist,t painted a picture of the groom’s childhood home (where the wedding would be hosted) to include on the save the dates. She included the arch where we would eventually be married and the beloved family dog, Lol, lounging in the yard.
