Colorful Spring Wedding Inspiration at Stanley Park Chapel

It’s been a long winter and to say we’re looking forward to spring would be an understatement, and of all the positive changes the season brings, bright blooms are my favorite reward for the winter wait. Modern Mint Events Inc. and Flower Factory combined forces for this colorful shoot and if these pics by Vivid Moments Photography don’t put you in the mood for spring, I’m not sure what would.

From Modern Mint Events IncWe absolutely love the Stanley Park Chapel so when we decided to work with them on this shoot, we wanted to bring out its potential. It seems that couples who choose this venue keep it bare and neutral and we wanted to show just how much more spectacular it can be with some colour and lush florals.

With the venue being in one of the most beautiful parks in the world, we wanted to take the inspiration from the setting. Spring is uniquely stunning time in Vancouver with lots of colours so that was our inspiration.

On the day of the shoot, we woke up to 2 feet of snow which resulted in us having to move two of our outdoor vignettes inside. What you see is ultimately three different set ups, three dresses and three hair and makeup styles in one location! It was truly spring inspired. You would never know it was -8 degrees outside!

Jamaica Destination Wedding in an Ancient Aqueduct

Ready to get lost in a sea of pretty? Well, sit down, because thanks to Sunglow Photography there is so much Jamaica gorgeousness waiting for you below. With the stunning Hilton Rose Hall orchestrating an event that will make your jaw drop, this gallery will be sure to inspire your entire day.

From Sunglow PhotographySandy and Ryan traveled to Montego Bay Jamaica for a tropical intimate wedding with close friends and family. From their visit the year prior Sandy was set on exchanging their vows under the 18th Century aqueduct ruins located on the Hilton Rose Hall property.

The wedding details were all handled by the staff at the Hilton Hotel — very appealing since planning a destination wedding in a third world country can be challenging.

From Elizabeth FogartyDaniel and Michelle’s wedding at the Hotel Monaco was simply perfect. Michelle wore her own mother’s dress, which looked fabulous with her sparkly Jimmy Choos. Daniel chose a Tiffany and Co. wedding band, which is awesome since the grooms deserve some love too! It was one of those beautiful and crisp fall days. After their first look, they signed the Ketubah surrounded by both their families. After the signing, they moved to the courtyard for their intimate ceremony. The silver chairs plus the pink and blush flowers made the perfect combination. Just like Michelle’s soft laced dress, the outside looked super romantic. The best part of the day was seeing how truly loved they are and what a great time all the guests had.

Colorful Southern Spring Wedding at UGA

With spring in the air, these diehard University of Georgia fans returned to their collegiate roots (they got married in the UGA Chapel!) for this colorful, family-filled wedding in Athens. While the Groom and his groomsmen rollicked around the campus, the Bride looked stunning in crystal-embellished Maggie Sottero, offset by the bridesmaids’ coral Bari Jay gowns, with Brita Photography capturing all the pretty for us to share with you, here!

From Brita PhotographyMorgan and Drew are loyal University of Georgia fans and alumni so it only made sense that their wedding would be in Athens, GA! When I arrived at the Georgia Gameday Center where all the bridesmaids were getting ready, I was greeted with big smiles and warm hugs. I couldn’t wait to get started! All of her bridal details were stunning: Her teal wedding invitations, coral wedding shoes and coral bridesmaids dress, and beautiful teal, ivory and coral bouquets (with peonies – my favorite!). Drew wrote the sweetest note for his bride inside the ring box, too: “Because you are my best friend.” It just melts your heart!

Morgan and Drew’s ceremony was at the gorgeous white Chapel on North Campus and their reception was held at the UGA Classic Center. We took the shuttle bus all around campus and stopped at several important places to them: North campus, the UGA stadium, the grand staircase, Magnolia’s, and behind the Chapel (to ring the bell)!

It was the perfect day to get married. Spring was in the air and we were able to capture so many beautiful pictures and moments!

From The McCartneys PhotographyLydia & Jon’s is truly the most heartwarming and powerful wedding we have ever had the privilege of photographing.

We’re not sure where to begin as we try to lace together words to match the powerful day that was Lydia & Jon’s wedding. Their wedding day was not only a celebration of an all-consuming love, but also a celebration of life and family! When Lydia & Jon announced their engagement, we have to admit, we did a little bit of a ‘happy dance’ in the hopes they might think of us to document their wedding celebration. When they did, we were over the moon excited! We planned a Skype date to talk about their hopes for their wedding photos and hear what type of Door County, WI wedding they were planning! Shortly before our Skype date, Lydia emailed to let us know they recently decided to have TWO weddings instead of one! As we continued to read, we discovered that Jon’s Dad, Paul, had been battling cancer and, as of recent, things were not going as they would hope. It was Jon’s wish that his Dad would see him marry the woman of his dreams – the woman who he would spend the rest of his life with.

Just a couple months later, we quickly found ourselves in the air to Boston, almost in disbelief that Lydia & Jon’s wedding was just days away. We made the most of our few days in the area before their wedding and, on August 8th, we woke up feeling distinctly honored to capture the incredible day that was ahead of us. Nothing could have prepared us for the emotion we witnessed on this very special day. It was written on everyones faces. Joy. Sadness. Love. Jon brought his dad up the aisle moments before his soon-to-be wife made the same walk with her Dad, and it was as if every emotion was pouring out of his face. Lydia’s Dad, Cory, is a Pastor in Door County and his words & wishes couldn’t have been more perfect a he gave his daughter away to Jon. This was one of the many personal touches that made Lydia & Jon’s wedding so heartfelt and unique to the two of them.

In just a few short months Lydia & Jon planned a day filled with so much thought, you’d think they had been planning for a year! To touch on a few, Lydia’s gorgeous dress was custom-made from the same satin that both her Grandmother and her Mom, Darla, wore on their wedding days. The absolutely stunning veil that wrapped Lydia up belonged to Jon’s Mom, Kathy. We honestly couldn’t get over what a STUNNING bride Lydia was!! Her & Jon’s wedding was also made possible by the talent of many family members like the music played during their ceremony and sweet cookie favors awaiting each guest at their dinner table. :)

After lovely words from Lydia’s Dad, she and Jon were ready to share their hand-written vows. Lydia’s vows were several pages long and, though she wanted to hold Jon’s hand, she also needed one hand to hold the vows and the other to flip through the pages. As if they weren’t a cute enough couple already, Jon made this possible by flipping pages for Lydia so that he could hold her hand too! Though very small, this little detail speaks volumes to the “team” that they are.

After portraits in the most romantic evening light followed by especially emotional first dances, Lydia & Jon had a surprise for Paul & Kathy, Jon’s parents, during the anniversary dance. They played his parents’ wedding song and, as Paul got up to dance with his wife, there were very few dry eyes in the room. This entire day was a beautiful example of the kind of love we all hope for, both from our family members and the person we choose to spend the rest of our lives with. We hope you see as much beauty and love in this day as we do, this is one of the most beautiful families we are lucky to call friends!

As a note, this wedding is especially close to our hearts as, no more than a month after their wedding, the groom’s father, Paul, went to Heaven. The loving impact Paul left on everyone who was blessed to know him will never ever be forgotten!

From the beautiful Bride… When Jon and I were planning our wedding, the most important thing that we wanted to shine through in our celebration was our focus on family, faith, and friends. During each step of the planning process, we would try to pause to reflect on whether or not we were keeping with that focus. Given Mr. Bugli’s illness, we knew that we wanted him to be a big part and focus of the wedding. So, from the personalized “Godfather” and “The Don” chairs for he and my dad, to our toasts, to me wearing Mrs. Bugli’s veil, we tried to incorporate as much of our parents as possible. This included having my father do the ceremony, and our parents sitting next to each other.

As we planned, we also wanted to make our wedding as personalized and detailed as we possibly could. And, in just a few short months, we did! After our wedding, we have no regrets about all the work we put in making this as personalized as we did. We both wanted a classic, elegant wedding but we knew we wanted pieces of that elegance to reflect us, our lives and our personalities. For example, the signature drinks, the Wisconsin cheese and Pennsylvania meats, the table names being named after places with importance to us, our glitter accents, and our cake all reflected our personalities and things we find important.

It was also very important for us to keep our theme throughout all of the pieces of the day. So from our invitations, to our escort cards, to our table decorations, we focused on keeping our “preppy nautical” theme flow.

Our personalities are both very fun, “classic” and focused on our loved ones and we hope that this was evident throughout our wedding day!

There were many DIY elements for our wedding day. I wanted to create as many personalized touches as possible and with the help of my mom, my bridesmaids, and friends, I believe I accomplished this. Our programs were designed by a graphic designer friend, our escort card and gift table signage were created by our good friend, and our signature drink menu was handcrafted as well! My bridesmaids did a ton of work in making DIY projects. From the “hubby” and “wifey” signs, to the table names, to painting glitter on the escort card sand dollars, they worked so hard for us!

Our place cards, escort cards, programs, and tulle chair back decorations were also DIY by my friends and me. I hosted a crafting day at my condo before the wedding where the girls helped me to create a number of fun projects for the wedding!

Our glitter tablecloth was sewn by my mother and so were all of the fabric squares for the tables. She was incredible!

Finally, the bridesmaids’ hangers were designed by our close friend, too and gave our day and pictures an extra personal touch!

For me, walking down the aisle with my dad, seeing all of my friends and family gathered to see me get married stands out in my mind. Wearing my mother and grandmother’s satin in my own custom designed wedding dress and donning my mother-in-law’s veil made the day extra special, too, and comes with that special walk.

Being able to share the day with my father-in-law, too was an incredible special time and the moment that is captured on film where I am leaning down and he is kissing me I cherish completely. It gives me the chills!

Rustic Chic Summer Wedding at Dawn Ranch

Dawn Ranch was the perfect backdrop for this creative celebration, complete with both a traditional ceremony with Jewish rituals to start off and a Korean ceremony in the middle of the festivities. There may have been more than one culture involved but every bit of this bash was colorful and chic, led by the talented Dream a Little Dream Events. Jesse Leake snapped away; see every second here!

From the Bride… We looked far and wide for a venue where we could create a weekend-long outdoor celebration with our family and friends. Dawn Ranch Lodge had everything we wanted – a “summer camp” style ranch in the Redwoods where all of our friends could stay onsite in one of the 52 bungalows, with our families staying across the street at West Sonoma Inn. With family and friends flying in from Korea, Japan, Spain, Ireland, England, Mexico, and Canada, we wanted to make sure everyone knew how much we appreciated their presence by organizing a weekend full of events and providing ample opportunity for guests to experience what the Russian River has to offer, including two beautiful summer nights under the California stars.

Without being overly cheesy or campy, we aimed for something along the lines of “Rustic Chic.” We really wanted to take care of our guests, so we made sure to include welcome tote bags with a weekend program, wine, snacks, hangover medicine, and a mix CD (featuring bands we’ve seen together live) wrapped in our own custom case; passed champagne before the ceremony; vintage couches to lounge on during the reception; and baskets of flip flops for the ladies. A few other special touches included…

We incorporated Jewish traditions into our ceremony, including a modern take on the Seven Blessings, as well as a separate traditional Korean ceremony following cocktail hour. The American and Korean ceremonies were officiated by Debbie’s sister and one of our closest friends, respectively.

In honor of our out-of-town guests, our tables were named after the 18 airports from which they traveled and our escort cards were designed to look like travel tags.

To honor our parents and grandparents, we framed pictures of our parents and grandparents weddings and featured that alongside our custom-etched wooden guest book (which asked our guests to attach Polaroids of their own).

We passed out cards labeled from 1-60 to correspond with our future anniversaries, and distributed them among the 18 tables. We then asked each table to write personal messages on their respective cards, which we’ll open each year on our anniversary.

Nearly all of the custom details were purchased on Etsy, including our wedding menu painted on a vintage window, a custom directional sign (aside from the post, which we stained ourselves to match the signs), custom cornhole boards to represent our home states (New York and Michigan), monogrammed robes and tie clips for the wedding party, and more.

Dawn Ranch has a boathouse leading to the river, a beautiful apple orchard, and an expansive meadow with giant redwoods, all of which can be used during a wedding weekend. The lodge itself is also ideal for an after party and especially for karaoking. We wanted to make use of all the spaces, so we kicked the weekend off with a friday night dinner and bonfire down by the boathouse, followed by karaoke in the lodge. Saturday morning we hosted yoga in the meadow, with kayaks and tubes available on the river throughout the day. The actual ceremony was held at the far end of the meadow, beneath the largest redwood on the property. Following the ceremony we held cocktail hour in the apple orchard, where everyone re-gathered for our traditional Korean ceremony. Finally, we kicked off the reception in another part of the apple orchard with a festive hora, followed by toasts, more dancing, and Russian River wines flowing all night long. We finished the night with an after party in the lodge where we served grilled cheese, sliders and doughnuts late night.

The weekend was truly everything we could have possibly hoped for.

From Rebecca Rose EventsI’ve known and worked with Sara, and called her a friend for long enough to know that when she asked me to style and coordinate her wedding day, it would not only be an enormous honor, but a wonderfully fulfilling process for me as an artist as well. Each detail was purposefully chosen, created and/or styled to reflect their playful personalities and delight the senses. Justin and Sara’s only wish was that the day be full of joy and free of distraction from what mattered most – their love and commitment to each other. What’s not to love about that?!

From The Bride…Justin and I grew up in separate North Carolina towns not too far from the mountains. We knew when we got engaged that there was no other place we could promise ourselves to each other than the mountains we grew up in.

Our ceremony was small, family only, at the Old Sherrill’s Inn outside Asheville, a charming place that suited us perfectly and that Justin found through a Google search two months (to the day) before our wedding after our original venue fell through. It couldn’t have been more of a happy accident.

My favorite part of our wedding day wasn’t a moment, necessarily, though seeing all the haphazard design ideas my mom and I dreamed up come together through Becca’s hands was pretty magical. The best part was truly how present I felt all day long. I remember the vows I said, and the way husband looked at me. I spent quality time with my family and his, watching our two families become a family. I laughed, cried, and spent time with my husband. That was the best part of the day for me.

As a photographer, having amazing pictures of the two of us on our wedding day was really important to me. We were so lucky to spend almost an hour with Laura taking photos together after the ceremony. It was definitely something we had to make a priority when planning our day, but amidst the all toasting and well-wishing, it was wonderful to have some time just for us.

Decorating a Nursery in a Small Space

As kids grow up, everything from their clothing to their furniture takes up more room, which gets tricky to accommodate in a small space. Every parent knows this predicament, which is why we had to share this stylish inspiration from The Fashionable Hostess on decorating a growing boy’s nursery. When baby boy Brooks needed a bigger crib, Amanda found clever ways to decorate a narrow leaning shelf. Get inspired in the slideshow below!

Intimate Pastel Wedding in the Cotswolds

My secret dreams were realized when this English wedding came across my desk. Pretty pastels and beautiful bridesmaids, a stunning custom gown by Lusan Mandongus and plenty of cheeky British charm make this summer celebration one I won’t soon forget. Katie Julia and Velvet Street Studios captured it all, from sun up to last kiss, all packed into this gorgeous gallery for us to love on.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/102427954 600 338]

From The Bride… Thinking back our wedding day feels like a dream; I’ve looked at the photos and watched our wedding video a dozen times and I still beam with a smile remembering how beautiful, romantic and truly special the day was.

I was so happy to have a summer wedding so that I could use a pastel palette and peonies, which are my favourite. I wanted the day to be elegant, timeless and romantic, and we both agreed on a small intimate affair, with only people that had shared in our happy memories as a couple.

Neither of us had any idea of the sort of venue we wanted, but from the moment we walked into Thyme Barn we fell in love. It’s set in the most idyllic little village called Southrop in the Cotswolds. The venue is mainly used as a cookery school, and both Guy and I love our food so this was a big selling point for us. Some of the venues we saw felt like there was a wedding revolving door, but at Thyme Barn they paid amazing attention to detail, and you may also recognise the location as it was where Kate Moss got married!

We hired five of the cottages that surrounded the barn, and it felt like we’d hired our own little private village for the weekend. The night before the wedding Guy had dinner with all the groomsmen down at the village pub, and I had dinner with all of my girls at the main house. On Sunday, our guests travelled home and the family members stayed for a Sunday roast. We wanted the wedding weekend to last as long as it could.

I have to say my dress was the only part of the wedding process I didn’t enjoy – I tried on about 60 dresses and none of them felt right. In the end, I found two Lusan Mandongus dresses that I liked – on one I adored the dip of the back and the other the wow factor of the four-foot trail – and the moment the assistant said we can merge the two I was sold!

For the bridesmaids’ dresses I couldn’t find the colour I wanted in the UK, so ended up buying the dresses from a US brand call Donna Morgan. It was a bit of a pain, as they don’t ship to the UK. Luckily my maid of honor’s sister lives in the States so we had them delivered there and she posted them to each of the bridesmaids. My bridesmaids I have known since school and they are like sisters to me. I feel so privileged to have their friendship, love and support. It meant the world to me that they were by my side on my wedding day.

My flower girl Lara is one of my old charges from when I was a nanny, we still share a very special bond, and she looked simply beautiful on the day. My pageboy Sam is another of my charges, he helped warm up the crowed by walking down the aisle with a last chance to run sign. His cheeky smile lit up the room. And last but not least my adorable pug cross, Miss Beasley Pickles, totally stole the show!

My most memorable moment was this: as I set off with my bridesmaids on the short walk to the ceremony a huge black cloud appeared and the heavens opened. I looked up at the sky and asked my granddad, who had recently passed away, to bring out the sun. Throughout the ceremony you could hear the thunderstorm outside, and it made it feel very dramatic. After the “ I do’s,” Guy squeezed my hand and whispered, “Look outside.” No joke, the clouds parted as a beautiful ray of sunshine shone through the window above the registrar and the sun stayed out all day.

Soft Pink + Gold Barcelona Wedding

You might not be surprised to learn that the bride behind this ahhh-mazing wedding? Well, she’s none other than European fashion blogger, Mes Voyages à Paris. Along with Bodas De Cuento helping plan by her side, she pulled off the ultimate lovefest complete with a Rosa Clará gown fit for a princess. See every dreamy pink and gold detail captured by Joseba Sandoval sitting pretty right here.

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/mr2DUuIstME 600 338]

From The Bride…Even before becoming engaged I knew my wedding would breathe the nostalgia of the past. It had to be rustic and vintage but with the glamour of Paris – our favorite city.

The first thing we did was to decide to work with Bodas de Cuento, our wedding planners, who helped us during the organization and wedding design process. Then, we worked to find the perfect venue for the reception which could achieve this mix of feelings and contrasts. When I saw that classic Catalan country house from the 18th century, Masia Ribas, I realized it was the place for us. It had to be there. The gorgeous forest would be the perfect and bucolic rustic scenery and the house will allow us to achieve that combination of a vintage, romantic and glamorous atmosphere for the moment of the dinner.

Then we knew we had to think of colors. Colors were really important for us thinking about our wedding decoration and ambience. We needed some golden to evoke that palace air, off-white and brown would get the vintage-rustic atmosphere and pale pink would wrap everything in an atmosphere of romance and sweetness.

As a fashion blogger, I have worked with many photographers and to me was really important the style of photography I wanted for our wedding memories. When I found Joseba Sandoval of Romance Weddings, I knew that him and Mar had to be part of our big day. I discovered their work on Style Me Pretty and it was love at first sight. They do a magical work, and it was just a dream for us to count on them to shoot our big day. We also found Basilico Studio for our wedding film and they were able to perfectly capture all the emotions experienced that day.

After the colors, we wanted to set the tables decor and we tried different combinations of chair, shallow dish, cups … at first moment it was not easy because I already had the picture on my mind of what I was looking for, but finally we found the perfect one. When I visualized the pink linen tablecloth and golden Napoleon chair, I just could imagine how would the full salon look like, and all the other wedding stuff was really easy to find: the flowers, the details and even my dress.

The dress was almost the last thing I decided a few months before the wedding. Once again, I had to unify vintage, glamour, rustic, princess dress but far away from the obvious style. Working in fashion, I just wanted to feel very unique with my own personal touch. It was a Rosa Clará amazing gown in which creation process I could participate: strapless dress and cut at the waist, crafted in rustic ottoman silk skirt with a skirt full of scarves and open back. Also, for the church I wore a French bolero in guipure lace with mounted sleeves and boat neckline. The veil was silky tulle, off-white color. I also chose non-traditional wedding shoes -iconic YSL Tribute sandals in pale pink, a gift from my lovely sister. The tiara and the belt were made by order because I wanted something gold in my dress just to be paired with the golden details in the tables.

For the party I wore a second wedding dress: strapless pink tulle gown of Hellenic inspiration. And to continue with the decor, outdoor details like a large chandelier that hung from an ancient tree were those little things that made the wedding be our dreamed wedding. The photocall in pink and with an Instax camera created a magical and totally vintage corner. Like the corner of the seating plan, made of wooden boards hanging from an ancient tree. Like the swing, an element that was the delight of the guests and, at the same time, fulfilled a dream.

The floral design was made by Pedro Navarro, his work is really gorgeous and he worked in an amazing way our inspiration. My wedding bouquet was made also by him, with hydrangeas in pink and pistachios tones, branched roses in pastel champagne and pink English roses, white and pink astilbe and Italian green eucalyptus. The bouquet was holded by a piece of vintage lace that I found in Paris, and dated from the 20’s (Belle Époque). Like a secret treasure I could hold in my hands with tons of love while I was walking down the aisle, with Beyonce’s Ave Maria, to be reunited with my future husband, at Santa Maria Reina de Pedralbes church, in Barcelona.

From Britta Marie Photography… When I entered the bridal suite I was welcomed by a busy room filled with lovely women preparing to celebrate their friends beginning their life together. As I listened I overheard the mother of the groom and the bride-to-be talking about the groom in the sweetest way; both agreeing that they wish they could be more like him – his kindness, his patience, his ability to see the best in everyone – were just a few of the traits they highlighted as they excitedly segued into discussion about the day.

Before the first look both Gia and Michael separately expressed their anticipation over seeing each other, almost not able to put the words in place but saying that they just were “just so excited!”. Their meeting was filled with tears as they gushed over how much they loved one another, and as Michael took in how beautiful his bride looked.

And then the day began. With the most fun and energetic bridal party out there, we traveled around the city stopping at various landmarks to capture the joy surrounding these two.

The ceremony and reception took place at the historic Newberry Library; a gorgeous backdrop for a romantic, candle lit event.

Gia and Michael spoke the sweetest vows to each other, promising to be forever best friends as they grow old and gray together (there was not a dry eye in the room!). Anita Vaughn, like always delivered a beautiful message of the importance of love and commitment in a marriage, and every couple in the room left feeling a little closer to their significant other.

The party was just that. A huge celebration that lasted well into the night, filled with dancing, heartfelt and hilarious speeches, Ohio Sate University cheers, and sparklers sending these two off on the adventure of life together.

Colorful Hotel Wailea Wedding

I’ve said it before in one form or another, and I’ll say it again: Wendy Laurel makes me all sorts of happy with the bursting-with-color tropical soirees she sends our way. Dashes of lush green and pops of hot coral set the stage at the hands of Mandy Grace Design and Belle Destination Weddings & Events for this beauty. I promise, you’ll walk away feeling full of cheer after peeking at this one.

From Wendy LaurelDaria and Chris are head over heels in love, with each other and with travel. They are both from Canada but love to travel the world together. In their first 18 months together, they traveled to more than 4 different countries.

So it was an easy decision for them to have a destination wedding. They got to narrow down their guest list to who was up for a trip to Hawaii—and there were plenty of close friends and family who were. Plus they could have their Hawaiian honeymoon traveling among the different islands and having a range of experiences.

From the beautiful Bride… Chris and I met in July 2012 when we were matched on a dating site within minutes of Chris signing up. I knew right away there was something special about him when I read his profile and he seemed so sweet, kind and genuine. We had a great first date at a local food-tasting festival and from that day on we were inseparable. After an amazing year dating and traveling the world together, Chris proposed to me under the stars, just after our first anniversary. I couldn’t believe it and shouted YES with so much happiness!

As travel-addicts and romantics, we knew right away we wanted a destination wedding and Maui just seemed to be the most beautiful and romantic place in the world to get married. The warm weather, tropical colors, stunning foliage and ocean views were exactly what we were dreaming of. When our wedding planner Lena showed us photos of the Hotel Wailea as a venue option, we were so excited and instantly knew it was the one. Nestled up on the hills in Wailea overlooking the ocean, the boutique hotel has stunning grounds, impeccable service, and absolutely unbelievably delicious food. Our ceremony was held on the Sunset Lawn, and our favorite moment of the day was when we got to read our personal vows to each other – they were so heartfelt and with our family and friends around us, there was not a dry eye in the crowd. The cocktail reception we planned for our guests was a hit, and the entire dinner reception blew everyone away. The food portions were huge and our guests are still reminiscing about the Teriyaki Beef Short Ribs! We will be forever thankful to everyone who played a part in making our day so special – it was truly a dream come true from start to finish, and a day we will cherish forever!

Rustic Oregon Barn Wedding

When the Groom popped the big question – in the attic of their barn under strings of lights and a table set for two – it only made sense to say “I do” where it all went down. Along with family and friends, they worked hard to gussy up their property for the Big Day and the payoff was tenfold. See all the love through the lens of Maria Lamb right over here.

From The Bride…I would say I am a fairly quiet person, I always knew I would say “yes” when Josh asked me to marry him but on the day we got engaged I think I actually screamed “YES!”. Every detail Josh had dreamed up was so thoughtful and original, I was overjoyed. Josh asked me to marry him at the end of the night, on one knee, in the attic of our barn, under strings of lights and a table set for two. Many of our friends were involved in our engagement, and in their own special way made it one of my favorite memories of my life. We were engaged in our barn and we knew it would only be right to celebrate our wedding and reception on our property as well. From planting new grass, to building fences, to trenching new water lines we really jumped into this wedding planning thing with both feet.

Josh and I are surrounded by the most helpful, giving and loving family and friends who spent countless hours helping us build, prep and clean so that when September 6th rolled around everything would be perfect, and that it was. It was a hot day in Oregon, hitting around 95 degrees by the afternoon, but between the shade from the fir trees, the light wind and the sweet drinks, nobody was complaining. We had a small, intimate ceremony in our garden and dinner in our barn with around forty family and friends. We shared memories and cheered to the good times. Around seven o’clock the band started, neighbors came over and more family and friends piled in. Everyone put on their dancing shoes and we celebrated late into the night. It was the perfect day.

Vintage Chic Summer Wedding

Pretty pastels, an old home for guests to explore, dinner on the porch; that is how I picture a summer evening well spent. Add in these two lovebirds and I’d happily volunteer to be a guest at this sweet celebration. Vanessa Joy was lucky enough to witness their vows, capturing every minute and Experience Events made that dinner on the porch a well styled scene. See more right here!

From Vanessa Joy PhotographyA beautiful chapel wedding with simple, neutral colors. A handsome groom and a stunning bride. Their reception was filled with unique details from hanging candle lanterns, old fashioned chairs, long table seating with lanterns and small flower arrangements. Of course, you cannot forget about the kids table seating complete with old wooden door tables and personalized table settings. The DJ played actual records of songs like old swing and jazz.

From the Bride… Planning a wedding is a daunting task. And like many brides, I started off feeling more than a little overwhelmed by the process and by the universe of possibilities for planning such an important day. Finding the reception venue was what started to bring the whole day into focus.

We stumbled across the Water Witch Club in Monmouth Hills, NJ, close to where my fiancé grew up and where his parents still live. The Water Witch was built in 1905 and walking through the clubhouse is like stepping back in time. We used one of the original 1920’s Water Witch Club invitations (which we found hanging on the wall of the casino) for our wedding invitation, and had our DJ (Neal Becton of DJ D-Mac) play vinyl records of Prohibition-era jazz music that might have filled the house nearly a hundred years earlier. Having the entire place to ourselves allowed our guests to wander and explore throughout the evening, while the huge outdoor yard kept the kids happily entertained.

Thanks to Pinterest, Style Me Pretty, Etsy, etc. there is no shortage of inspiration for ways to customize every little detail of the day. But you can’t do everything, especially if you’re planning on marrying within a year, are on a budget, and have to balance wedding planning with the obligations of work and real life. So my advice is to pick a few things that you care about – things that encapsulate who you and your fiancé are and that will make you smile for years to come – and spend your time and money there.

One of those important details for us was the custom welcome map and booklet we gave to each guest in a linen drawstring bag, beautifully designed by Julie DeWalt of Gather and Co., with artwork by Maria Jourdan Rolfsen of Tupelo Honey Design. Nearly all of our guests traveled from out of town to attend our wedding, and it was important to us to share with them all of our favorite things to do and see in the town where we fell in love. The booklet included our favorite local spots, the names of our wedding party, a schedule of the wedding events, and the history of our reception venue.

Another important feature was the family-style dinner on the porch with long farmhouse tables and mismatched chairs. Stefanie at Bits & Pieces Vintage Rentals was incredible to work with, providing the chairs and even creating the tables for us. With outstanding food and service from D’Jeet? Catering (they were truly phenomenal to work with and literally put out fires at the reception), the meal brought all of our family and friends together in one delicious and memorable celebration.

We also hired a day-of wedding coordinator, and you should too. You might think you don’t need one, or that you can draft friends or family to take care of day-of details, but hiring a coordinator is essential if you truly want to enjoy your wedding day. I don’t know what I would have done without Allegra and Carolina Hewell of Hewell Events Group. From bringing us breakfast the day of the wedding to finishing decorations that hadn’t been completed to tracking down lost trolleys, Allegra and Carolina did it all and averted innumerable near-disasters.

Lastly, for all the time you spend planning everything, the reality is that the entire day will likely be a happy blur. I can’t emphasize enough how crucial it is to get a great photographer. Not just a good one, but one who really knows what he or she is doing and can capture everything quickly, beautifully, and without you even realizing they are there. It is worth the money you will spend to ensure that you will love looking at your wedding photos forever (and expect to spend at least 10% of your budget on photography). If you can possibly get NJ Wedding Photographer Vanessa Joy, do. Watching her work is amazing, and being part of her work is even better.

We’re so grateful to the many people we worked with who made our wedding such a beautiful and happy experience.

10 Tips for an Effortless yet Elegant Cocktail Party

I love a good cocktail party. Like in a big way. The mingling, the mixing, the excuse for that extra glass of bubbly – it’s kind of my happy place. Since I adore them so much, I’ll find any excuse in the book to host them, and I’ve learned a few things along the way. So it’s time to share the secrets with all of y’all. It’s my effort to bring the cocktail party back, because there really isn’t anything better. xoxo Abby Capalbo

10 Tips for an Effortless Cocktail Party

[dotted]

1. Do as much before as possible. Actually do everything before. You don’t want to be the host or hostess stuck in the kitchen or shuffling around. You should actually enjoy this party. Novel idea, right? So get everything out and ready to go around 30 minutes prior to the guests arrival, that way you can enjoy those few moments of peace before the fun begins.

2. Let Your Guest Plays Bartender. Now, I try to make sure I circle the room to make sure everyone is fully imbibed, but I also make sure there are “stations” so to speak, scattered about the house for every choice of beverage so my guests don’t feel like they have to wait for me. From water to gin to bubbly to wine, I want to make sure each and every guest gets the cocktail of their choice, whenever they choose to have it.

3. Invest in Additional Glassware. The very first little soiree we hosted at our house I used the stemware from our wedding. By the end of the night, only half of them remained (sign of a good party, perhaps). So I went to Ikea and purchased glassware in all shapes in sizes, and let me tell you that small little investment has come in handy more times than I care to admit. Plus, drinking out of glass instead of paper or plastic cups just ups the ante on any party. Also, I don’t know what it is about those Ikea glasses, but they are hearty.

4. Master the Cheese Plate. I love cheese in a big way. Hand me a wheel of La Tur and a loaf of bread (and perhaps a glass of prosecco while your at it), and I’m basically in heaven. And chances are, your guests feel the same way. It’s really easy to throw together one that will impress your guests, and once you learn the simple steps to perfecting a cheese plate, you’ll never be intimated by whipping one up again.

5. Make your Guests Feel at Home. Have a place for guests to take off their coats in the winter. I actually use a rolling rack with wooden hangers so it’s easy to see where they should hang their coats if I am busy with another guest. Light a fire in the winter or make sure you have a patio heater going in the summer. Place little nibbles throughout the house. Be sure there is plenty of toilet paper in all your bathrooms (silly, but important). Light candles. Sprinkle fresh flowers throughout (grocery store ones are totally fine!). Make your home as inviting as possible, and try to think of all the little things you notice when you’re at someone’s home, other people notice them too.

6. Don’t overdo yourself. I sometimes have to remind myself of this. This isn’t a dinner party for Betty Draper. You don’t need to embrace your inner Julie Child. You just want to create a warm atmosphere where people want to linger.

7. Turn on the Music. This one is important to me. Music sets the tone of any party, and helps fill the room with a happy vibe. I used to curate playlist for each party, but I’m so thankful for pandora and spotify – they have done all the hard work for me. Make sure to keep an eye on the playlists throughout the night…and the volume.

8. Save the Cleaning for Later. Guests feed off their host in a big way. If they see you cleaning up or doing the dishes mid-party, you’ll send the signal that it’s time to wrap things up. Trust me, all those dishes will be there when they leave. And so will that extra glass of bubbly with your name on it while you tidy things up. One of the wonderful things about a cocktail party is, the clean up is pretty easy.

9. Curate your Guest List. I will always stand by the fact that the guests make the party. It doesn’t matter how delicious your dish or how stunning your spread, if your guests are great the party will be great. Bring people together that you think will enjoy each other, and they’ll do the rest.

10. Enjoy Yourself. Honestly, above everything else, it’s the best thing you can do. A happy host or hostess speaks volumes to their guests, and ultimately will have everyone doing the same. Wear something comfortable yet something that makes you feel a bit fancy too. I like to run around prior getting everything ready in a t-shirt and leggings, and then throw on a blazer, some jewelry, a dab of lipstick and some fun shoes when the party is about to start so I look and feel fresh for everyone. I swear it makes a difference.
